2 Central storage
We store the data indicated in the clauses mentioned above in a central electronic data processing system. The data relating to you are systematically recorded, linked and analysed in order to process your requests and to handle the contractual services.
We base this processing on our legitimate interest pursuant to Art. 6 Par. 1 Letter f of the GDPR in a customer-friendly and efficient administration of customer data. We also base the processing of these data on the fulfilment of the contract pursuant to Art. 6 Par. 1 Letter b GDPR.
3 Usage of your data for advertising purposes
a. Creation of pseudonymised usage profiles
In order to provide you with personalised services and information on our website (on-site targeting), we use and analyse the data that we collect about you when you visit the website. For the corresponding data processing, text files known as cookies may be used where necessary (see also under Section 7). The analysis of your user behaviour can result in the creation of a so-called usage profile. The usage data is combined only with pseudonymous data, and never with data that has not been pseudonymised.
We base the creation of pseudonymised user profiles for advertising and analysis purposes on a legitimate interest pursuant to Art. 6 Par. 1 Letter f GDPR. This applies for all data processing transactions listed in this clause. The legitimate interest exists in the direct marketing and in the analysis of the usage of our website.
b. Re-targeting
We use re-targeting technologies on the website. These technologies analyse your user behaviour on our website in order to subsequently offer you advertising that is tailored specifically to you on partner websites. Your user behaviour is collected in a pseudonymised form. Most retargeting technologies work with cookies (see Section 7 below).
This website uses DoubleClick by Google, a service of Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043,USA (“Google”), for the activation of advertisements that are based on the usages of previously visited websites. To do so, Google uses the DoubleClick cookie, which allows your browser to be recognised when visiting other websites.
The information collected by the cookie about visits to these websites (including your IP address) is transferred to a Google server in the United States and stored there (more information about the transfer of personal data to the United States can be found further below under Section 10).
Google will use this information to analyse your use of the website with respect to the advertisements placed, in order to compile reports about website activity and advertisements for the website operator and to provide further services that are linked to usage of the website and the Internet in general. Google will also transfer this information to third parties in certain cases, where this is required by law or if the said third parties process this data on Google's behalf. Google will under no circumstances associate your IP address with other data from Google, however.
You may choose to prevent retargeting at any time by rejecting or disabling the relevant cookies in the menu bar of your web browser (see Section 7 below). You can also request an opt-out for the said other advertising and re-targeting tools via the website of the Digital Advertising Alliance at optout.aboutads.info .
4 Forwarding of the data to third parties
We pass your personal data on only if you have expressly consented to this, if there is a legal obligation to do so or if this is required in order to enforce our rights, in particular in order to enforce claims resulting from the relationship between you and Switzerland Tourism.
We also pass your data onto third parties where this is required in conjunction with use of the website in order to provide you with the services requested or to analyse your user behaviour. If this is required for the purposes specified in the preceding sentence, your data may also be passed on to third parties abroad.
We explicitly mention at this point that the website switzerlandtravelacademy.ch is operated jointly with the Università della Svizzera italiana, Via G. Buffi 13, 6900 Lugano and is hosted on servers of ti-edu, Via Cantonale 16c, 6928 Manno, in Manno, Switzerland.
If the website contains links to websites of third parties, Switzerland Tourism will no longer have any influence on the collection, processing, storage or use of personal data by third parties once you click on such links and assumes no responsibility in this regard.
5 Communication of personal details to third parties located abroad
Switzerland Tourism is entitled to also pass your personal data onto third-party companies (commissioned service providers) abroad, where this is required for the data processing described in this privacy policy. The said third-party companies are obliged to protect your data to the same extent as we are. If the level of data protection in a country does not correspond to the level of data protection in Switzerland or the European Union, we ensure by contractual means that the protection of your personal data corresponds to that in Switzerland or the European Union at all times.
6 Data security
We take appropriate technical and organisational security measures to protect any of your personal data that we have stored from manipulation, partial or complete loss and unauthorised access by third parties. Our security measures are constantly being improved in line with technological developments.
We also take data privacy within our organisation very seriously. Our employees and the service providers commissioned by us are obliged to maintain confidentiality and comply with our data protection provisions. In addition, they are only given access to personal data to the extent that this is necessary.
Cookies help in many ways to make your visit to our website simpler, more pleasant and more meaningful. Cookies are information files that your web browser automatically stores on your computer’s hard drive when you visit our website. Cookies neither damage your computer’s hard drive nor do they transfer the user’s personal data to us.
We use cookies, for instance, to align the information, offers and advertisements displayed to you better to your individual interests. Their use does not mean that we receive new personal data about you as an online visitor. Most Internet browsers accept cookies automatically. It is possible, however, to configure your browser so that no cookies are stored on your computer or so that a message will always appear when you receive a new cookie.
Disabling cookies may prevent you from being able to use all of the features on our website.
8 Tracking tools
On our website, we use Matomo (formerly: “PIWIK”) from InnoCraft Ltd, 150 Willis St, 6011 Wellington, New Zealand. This is an open-source software with which we can analyse the use of our Internet presence. In the process,
- your IP address,
- the web page(s) of our website that you are visiting,
- the website from which you have changed to our own website (referrer URL),
- the time you spend on our Internet presence and
- how often one of our websites is called up, are processed.
To record these data, Matomo saves a cookie on your terminal device via your Internet browser (cf. in this regard Clause 7 further below). This cookie is valid for one week. However, we use Matomo with the anonymisation function “Automatically Anonymize Visitor IPs”. This anonymisation function shortens your IP address by two bytes so that assignment to you or to the Internet connection used by you is impossible. This means that the personal reference in the data is immediately erased already when the data is collected.
If you do not agree to this processing, you have the option of preventing the storage of the cookie through a setting in your Internet browser (cf. in this regard Clause 7 further below).
Further information on privacy settings of Matomo can be found under the following link: https://matomo.org/docs/privacy/
9 Links to our presence in social media
On our website, we have integrated links to our social media profiles at the following social networks:
- Facebook, Facebook Inc., 1601 S. California Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA,
- Twitter, Twitter Inc.,1355 Market Street, Suite 900, San Francisco, CA 94103, USA,
- LinkedIn, LinkedIn Corporation, 2029 Stierlin Court, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA,
- Google+, Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043,USA,
- YouTube, YouTube LLC., 901 Cherry Ave., San Bruno, CA 94066, USA,
- Pinterest, Inc., 808 Brannan St, San Francisco, CA 94103, USA,
- Instagram, Instagram LLC., 1601 Willow Road, Menlo Park, CA 94025, USA,
- Flickr, Yahoo! Inc., 701 First Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94089, USA and
- Tumblr, Tumblr Inc., 35 East 21st St, 10th Floor, New York, NY 10010, USA.
When you click on the respective symbols of the social networks, you will automatically be forwarded to our profile at the respective network. In order to use the functions of the respective network there, you must in some parts log in to your user account at the respective Network.
When you call up a link to one of our social media profiles, a direct connection will be established between your browser and the server of the respective social network. As a result, the network receives the information that you have visited our website with your IP address and have called up the link. If you call up a link to a network whilst you are logged into your account at the respective network, the content of our site can be linked to your profile at the network, which means that the network can directly assign your visit to our website to your user account (you will find additional information regarding transfers of personal data to the US in Clause 10 further below). If you wish to prevent this, you should log out before you activate corresponding links. Assignment takes place at any rate if you log in to the respective network after activating the link.
10 Information regarding the transfer of data to the US
For the sake of completeness, we would like to point out to users residing or based in Switzerland that in the US there are monitoring measures taken by the US authorities that generally allow the storage of all personal data relating to all persons whose data has been transferred from Switzerland to the US. This happens without differentiation, limitation or exception on the basis of the aim pursued and without an objective criteria that makes it possible to limit access to the data by US authorities and its later use to very specific, strictly limited purposes that may justify the intervention associated with both access to this data and use thereof. We would also like to point out that there are no judicial remedies in place in the US for data subjects from Switzerland that would make it possible to receive access to the data relating to them and to have this corrected or deleted, as well as no effective legal protection against general access rights by US authorities. We refer the data subjects explicitly to this legal and factual situation so that they can make an appropriately informed decision on whether or not to consent to their data being used.
We point out to users domiciled in a Member State of the EU that the US, from the perspective of the European Union, among others due to the topics named in this section, does not have a sufficient level of data protection. If we have explained in this data privacy statement that recipients of data (e.g. Google, Facebook and Twitter) have their registered office in the US, we will ensure either through contractual regulations with these companies or by ensuring the certification of these companies under the EU-US Privacy Shield that your data are subject to an appropriate level of protection at our partners.
11 Right to information, rectification, erasure and restriction of the processing; right to data portability
On request, you have the right to receive information free of charge about the personal data that are saved about you by us. You also have the right to rectification of incorrect data and the right to erasure of your personal data if this does not conflict with any statutory obligation of retention or a permission that allows us to process the data. Pursuant to Articles 18 and 21 GDPR, you also have the right to request a restriction in the data processing and to object to the data processing.
Furthermore, you have the right to request the surrender of the data again that you have handed over to us (right to data portability). On request, we will also transfer the data to a third party of your choice. You have the right to receive the data in a conventional file format.
For the aforementioned purposes, you can reach us via the e-mail address [email protected] . At our own discretion, we may request proof of identity for the processing of your requests.
You may also notify us what is to happen to your data after your death by giving us corresponding instructions.
12 Retention of data
We only save personal data for as long as this is necessary in order to use the aforementioned tracking, advertising and analysis services within the framework of our justified interest:
in order to carry out services in the aforementioned scope that you have requested or for which you have given your consent; in order to comply with our statutory obligations.
Contractual data are retained by us for longer as this is specified by statutory obligations of retention. Retention obligations that obligate us to retain data result from regulations regarding invoicing and from provisions under tax law.
Pursuant to these regulations, business communication, closed contracts and booking records are to be retained for up to 10 years and with regard to users who have their place of residence in France for up to 5 years. The data will be locked if we no longer require these data to carry out the services for you. This means that the data may then only be used for invoicing purposes and for tax purposes.
13 Right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority
If you have your place of residence in an EU Member State, you are entitled to make a complaint to a data protection supervisory authority at any time.
If you have any questions regarding data privacy on our website, or if you require information or wish to have your data erased, please contact us by sending an e-mail to [email protected] .

Switzerland is a picturesque European gem, renowned for its unparalleled natural beauty, cultural richness, and meticulous precision. Switzerland offers a plethora of unforgettable experiences for travellers. With the Alps dominating the landscape, hiking in summer, and skiing in winter is a great way to experience nature first-hand. Speaking of the Alps, the iconic Matterhorn is a must-see and some say the most photographed mountain in the world.
Switzerland’s cities are equally enchanting with Zurich’s vibrant arts scene, Lucerne, the gateway to lakes and mountains and the captivating medieval capital of Bern.
In the heart of the Alps, Interlaken is regarded as the adventure hub, where enthusiasts can paraglide and skydive against brilliant backdrops. Interlaken is also a great hub for discovering some of Switzerland’s small historic villages.

Despite the increasing popularity of eLearning courses about tourism destinations, research on how they should be designed and what makes them usable in the eyes of the travel trade remains scarce. Trying to fill this gap, the main aim of this research is to find a suitable framework for evaluating online courses about tourism destinations. To do so, the creation process of the Switzerland Travel Academy by Switzerland Tourism is presented with a focus on evaluating not only the platform’s usability, but also its impact on travel agents’ knowledge about, and involvement with the tourism destination after the completion of the course. The proposed framework enhances the theoretical foundation in the eLearning domain, as well as might be used within practical developments of eLearning courses not only by tourism destinations, but also by other eLearning product developers.

My Training as a SWISS Cabin Crew Member: Part 2 - Starting the Course
Hello everyone,
It's me again, Alice. I'm looking forward to sharing my exciting first few days of training with you in my column. After the introductory days at the Operation Center (OPC1), it's time for me to start the theoretical part of the Flight Attendant Basic Course at the Lufthansa Aviation Training Center (LAT). This is where the door to a fascinating world opens, where I not only learn the basics of comprehensible communication on board and important safety regulations, but also the secrets of meteorology and the air we breathe in the aircraft.
The anticipation is palpable as my class gathers in the classroom fifteen minutes before the course begins. Today is the start of the theoretical part of the Flight Attendant Basic Course (FAB) and everyone is highly motivated to master the weeks ahead. The instructors welcome us and give us an overview of what to expect. Each of us is given a "course book" in which our passed exams are recorded.
On the tablet, the so called FlyPad, which each of us received at the introductory days, we are shown the applications and online training that we will be working with from now on. The course begins with the topics of Safety & Security, Emergency Medical Care and Service as "initials", which are covered in general terms. This will be followed by a more in-depth look at SWISS-specific work processes.
Let's start with Safety and Security - the most important things right at the beginning
The first topic to be addressed is Safety & Security. This is the top priority in our work. At home, we also have to do WBTs (web-based training) on dangerous goods and customs regulations. I take enough time to work through these lessons. They are varied, there are reading texts, short explanatory videos, texts read aloud, pictorial explanations and a quiz with control questions at the end of each topic.
The first tests
The first tests create uncertainty. What will be asked? How many safety signs, substances and regulations do we have to memorise? I rely on the advice of our instructor: pay close attention in class and do the web training carefully. With this preparation, no one should be afraid of the exams. Luckily, after my studies and a few training courses, I had already acquired some efficient study methods. So I was able to face the first exams quite relaxed.
Hey Captain, there's something rattling back there...
As cabin crew, we are the eyes and ears of the pilots. The wings and engines of the aircraft cannot be seen from the cockpit, and the door to the cockpit must remain closed for safety reasons. This means that the flight crew, the pilots, cannot see what is going on in the cabin with the passengers and cabin crew. Therefore, we have to communicate precisely and consistently if we notice any abnormalities in the cabin. When I pick up the intercom and report to the front, "Hey Captain, there's something rattling back there..." it can mean anything. It could mean that I didn't put the dishes away properly after clearing the table and a drawer with cups or glasses is rattling. For communication to work, it is important that everyone uses the same terms. That's why we learn the names of the most important parts of an aeroplane.
"As a cabin crew, we are the eyes and ears of the pilots." Alice Cabin Crew Member in Training
Above the clouds, my new workplace
Until now, my workplace has been mostly in an office, maybe sometimes on the water (I own a boat rental business on the side), but always on solid ground. That's about to change, because my new workplace is above the clouds. In the office, you can open the window and the ground doesn't usually move. It's different when you're flying. The plane moves in a gaseous mass of air. This mass forms, heats up, cools down, moves faster or slower, the moisture saturation changes. This is where clouds, winds and thunderstorms or - for an aircraft - turbulence are created. To better understand this environment, let us look at the basics of meteorology and how turbulence is created.
The air we breathe
Another important topic is the quality of the air in the cabin. With increasing altitude, not only does the moisture content of the air decrease, but so does the oxygen content. Humans can survive without oxygen tanks up to about 4,000 metres above sea level. To be able to fly above 4,000 metres and reach the optimum altitude, which is about two and a half times higher, passenger planes are equipped with pressurised cabins. In these cabins, oxygen is compressed. If something goes wrong with the compression and the oxygen level gets too low, there are physical signs. That's what we cabin crews have to look out for. But we don't just rely on observation. I fly the Airbus A220 aircraft. These planes are equipped with monitoring and control systems. If there is a drop in cabin pressure, the aircraft will automatically descend to a safe oxygen altitude.
The first few days of the course gave me an insight into the many different subjects I will be learning about during my training. Each of these topics will be filled with content over the coming weeks and I will learn what to do in what situation and for what reason. More about this in my next reports.
Best wishes and see you soon!
Yours, Alice (SWISS Cabin Crew Member in Training)
