Travel trailers with bunk beds are the perfect solution to the problem of having a bed for everyone. Bunk beds can also be more convenient than converting a dinette into a bed each night. Another nice perk of bunk beds is that they allow children to have their own space to store their clothing, mobile devices, and toys away from the living area.

We have attended many RV Shows and dealerships all across the country to tour, review, and rate these travel trailers. We have also read many reviews and comments from our subscribers.

Our guide to the 10 best travel trailers with bunk beds will help you find the perfect travel trailer. We focused on travel trailers with bunk beds that weigh less than 7,000 lbs because these units are perfect for weekenders, part-timers, and even full-time families road-schooling their kids across America.

What Size Campers are 7,000 lbs.?

What Size Camper are Travel Trailer With Bunk Beds Under 7,000 lbs.

The size of campers that are 7,000 pounds ranges from the upper 20 feet to low 30 feet in length. They usually have tandem axles and can be found with or without a single front room slideout. It’s rare to see one with two entry doors, but they exist. The average height of a travel trailer at this length and weight is between 10-11 feet and 6.5 feet inside.

RV manufacturers make some using the stick-and-tin conventional method using a wood frame and corrugated aluminum sidewall shell, like the CrossRoads Zinger Lite above. Others use the laminated method with aluminum tube framing and flat-paneled fiberglass sidewalls, where components are sealed to the panels with heat and a clear coating.

Travel trailers have the most popular floorplan variations at this length and weight since consumers find them the ideal size. In recent years, the best RV floorplans for families favor full-size bunks over twins. Murphy beds outsell permanent beds because they’re great space savers.

Other features in campers that are 7,000 lbs. include:

  • Either standard or U-shaped dinettes.
  • 8–10 cu. ft. Refrigerators
  • Multiple LED TVs
  • RV outdoor kitchens
  • Wet, dry, and full-width bathrooms
  • Massive storage space
  • Prep for data, satellite, solar, and other inputs

10 Best Travel Trailers with Bunk Beds: Under 7,000 LBS.

A lightweight travel trailer with bunk beds is the perfect compromise in terms of affordability and sleeping space. Here are some of the best the market has to offer, with more than enough capacity for your family and guests.

1. Cruiser RV MPG 2500BH

Cruiser RV MPG 2500BH Exterior Travel Trailer with Bunk Beds

Our Pros and Cons

✅ Outdoor kitchen is perfect for getting all the kids outside and cooking out

⛔ TV placement directly above the kitchen sink makes little sense

  • Length: 29.9′
  • UVW: 5,576 lbs
  • CCC: 2,120 lbs
  • GVWR: 7,728 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 728 lbs

Let’s kick things off with our first travel trailer with bunk beds, the Cruiser RV MPG 2500BH . With over a ton of storage, an outside kitchen, a double-size bunk, and a full bathroom, this is the perfect option for a large family or even two smaller families traveling in tandem.

The L-shaped kitchen adds to the interior living space and features more counter space, especially if you are cooking inside and outside. The large awning extends over the cooking appliances outside as well, so you can enjoy cooking on a hot summer day without blistering in the heat.

2. Coachmen Freedom Express 22SE

Coachmen Freedom Express 22SE Exterior

✅ Despite the size constraints, it comes with a full bathroom that includes a sizeable tub

⛔ Kitchen counter space is a little limited

  • Length: 24.8′
  • UVW: 4,336 lbs
  • CCC: 1,840 lbs
  • GVWR: 6,176 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 576 lbs

It’s not often that you get a travel trailer with bunk beds that can sleep eight and has zero slides. The Coachmen Freedom Express 22SE proves you can do a lot with a little. Plus, it features a lightweight design, so you won’t need a small Army tank to haul it around.

The double-over-double bunks sit right next to a small but full bathroom, with a large enough dinette to support a large family that likes to eat their meals together. With pass-through storage, nearly a ton of cargo-carrying capacity, and a queen Murphy bed, neither space nor weight is limiting.

3. East To West Della Terra 255BHLE

East To West Della Terra 255BHLE Exterior

✅ Incredible cargo carrying capacity with plenty of storage options throughout

⛔ The lip/step-up to the couch is a tripping hazard until you get used to it

  • Length: 31.7′
  • UVW: 5,993 lbs
  • CCC: 3,447 lbs
  • GVWR: 9.440 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 640 lbs

With a massive cargo-carrying capacity, a large slide, and a huge sleeping capacity, the East-to-West Della Terra 255BHLE is tailor-made for large families or hosting a lot of guests on a big party night. In fact, get-togethers will never be too constrictive, and you get all of this in a sub-three-ton travel trailer.

There’s no exterior kitchen, but the exterior LP quick-connect will get you started with exterior cooking appliance options. However, cooking inside is a breeze as well, with the L-shaped counter offering plenty of space to cook for large gatherings.

4. Heartland Pioneer 250BH

Heartland Pioneer 250BH Exterior Travel Trailer with Bunk Beds

✅ AM/FM IRV Technologies Command Center

⛔ Limited countertop space

  • Length: 29′ 9″
  • UVW: 5,175 lbs
  • CCC: 1,693 lbs
  • GVWR: 6,900 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 735 lbs

The Heartland Pioneer 250BH is a slick-looking travel trailer with bunk beds, especially if you opt for the one with those eye-catching, vertical graphics on the entryway. It also happens to be a massive sleeper, sleeping up to ten tired souls at once.

It doesn’t match the CCC of some of the other RVs on this list, but it’s still a respectable 1,693 lbs, which should be enough to hit the road with a large group of family or friends. The double bunks are always a nice touch, especially when situated next to a full bathroom.

5. Airstream Flying Cloud 30 FB

Airstream Flying Cloud 30 FB Exterior

✅ Features a full rear office for those who need to work remotely while on the road

⛔ TV is positioned sideways from the couch and dinette

  • Length: 30.8′
  • UVW: 6,557 lbs
  • CCC: 2,243 lbs
  • GVWR: 8,800 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 903 lbs

The timeless, classic aesthetic appeal of the Airstream remains ever-present—only this time, there’s an office within that shiny, aluminum shell. No, it’s not like a luxury office you might find in a condo or even in your own residential home. However, it’s clearly an office space with all of the amenities you expect in such an environment.

Even with that unique and rare addition, the Airstream Flying Cloud 30FB has enough remaining space to sleep up to 9 people. They even found room to install some closets and wardrobes, over a ton of storage capacity and spaces and a full bathroom. Not bad at all, especially for working families on the move!

6. r-pod RP-203

r-pod RP-203 Exterior

✅ The small slide and Murphy bed do a fantastic job of maximizing the living space throughout

⛔ Air conditioner is optional, not a standard feature

  • Length: 25′
  • UVW: 5,169 lbs
  • CCC: 2,556 lbs
  • GVWR: 7,725 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 725 lbs

One of three floorplans, the r-pod-203 comes with a dual-battery rack (for those who prefer going off-grid or boondocking), rotocast tanks, seamless countertops, a tire pressure monitoring system, a GE refrigerator, and enough interior space to sleep up to eight people.

It helps that the slide includes the dinette, significantly boosting the living space through the kitchen and into the entertainment space. The 60 x 74 Murphy bed only adds to the spacious, daily feel of living in the 203. Even better, this puppy can hold over a ton of extra gear, so feel free to pack it down on your next adventure.

7. Riverside Retro 240BH

Riverside Retro 240BH Exterior Travel Trailer with Bunk Beds

✅ Unique and captivating retro look, on the inside and the outside

⛔ Counter space is pretty limited

  • Length: 27′ 5″
  • UVW: 4,260 lbs
  • CCC: 3,120 lbs
  • GVWR: 7,380 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 380 lbs

The retro look has been gaining steam in recent years, and you can have a Riverside Retro at an affordable price, with a small weight footprint, and enough interior space and accommodations to sleep 6. That’s more than enough for a midsize family to hit the road comfortably.

For a travel trailer with bunk beds, considering its light weight, the cargo carrying capacity is immense, at over a ton and a half. If you’re the adventurous sort, you can spend significant time packing this RV down with all of the outdoor gear you can imagine and your personal effects.

8. Palomino Puma Ultra Lite 16BHX

Palomino Puma Ultra Lite 16BHX Exterior

✅Ton of cabinetry and space optimization throughout

⛔ Small CCC for a 5-person sleeper

  • Length: 21′ 6″
  • UVW: 3,144 lbs
  • CCC: 726 lbs
  • GVWR: 3,870 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 370 lbs

As a lightweight travel trailer with bunk beds, the Palomino Puma Ultra Lite 16BHX , from the outside, doesn’t look like it can possibly hold all that it does. However, step inside, and you’ll find the opposite of what you might expect, with bunk beds, moderate counter space, and even a queen-sized bed.

You can opt for either the dinette or dual recliners, the latter of which are very comfortable. As a light sleeper, the 16BHX is a fantastic option for smaller family sizes or even for couples that like to host guests from time to time.

9. Gulf Stream Gulf Breeze 246BH

Gulf Stream Gulf Breeze 246BH Exterior

✅ Outside mini-kitchen includes a fridge, slide-out grill, countertop, and drawers

  • Length: 30′ 4″
  • UVW: 5,903 lbs
  • CCC: 1,707 lbs
  • GVWR: 7,610 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 610 lbs

The interior of the lightweight, Gulf Stream Gulf Breeze 246BH is all bright aesthetics, which adds to the spacious feel of an already sizeable living space. The front bedroom is a private room; even the double bunks include curtains you can draw on the top and bottom.

With enough room for eight to sleep, you can even bring your four-legged friend along for the ride. Below the fridge, you’ll find a special dog dish drawer that’s highly convenient. The CCC is moderate, with pass-through storage, hidden storage beneath the bed, and plenty of cabinetry throughout.

10. Keystone Bullet 211BHSWE

Keystone Bullet 211BHSWE Exterior Travel Trailer with Bunk Beds

✅ Water-resistant, Hyperdeck flooring throughout

⛔ Oven is pretty tiny for a kitchen that needs to produce for up to eight people

  • Length: 26.1′
  • UVW: 4,370 lbs
  • CCC: 2,227 lbs
  • GVWR: 6,597 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 470 lbs

The last travel trailer with bunk beds is as good as the first. The Keystone Bullet 211BHSWE features a three-year warranty on the exterior, which is always a good thing. Some significant tech also went into this model, including the Hyperdeck flooring, Blade A/C ducting system, and the SolarFlex package.

The interior is fairly spacious, with a queen bed up front, double bunks in the back, optional storage in place of one of the bunks, and a spacious bathroom that includes a tub. There’s not much counter space to work with in the kitchen. However, you also have the exterior kitchen when it’s time to cook big meals for a large family.

Can Adults Sleep On RV Bunk Beds?

For the most part, adults can sleep on RV bunk beds, especially when they are double beds. Most doubles are about 74″ long, which is enough for someone 6′ 2″ tall to stretch completely out. Double bunks are also wide enough to move around without falling off the bunk.

Twins are a little more difficult, but it can still be done. Of course, a grown adult may be a little more uncomfortable in a twin bunk, depending on size, weight, and height. For those adults out there who can literally sleep anywhere, bunks are far from an issue.

Can I Pull a 7,000 lb Travel Trailer With Bunk Beds?

Can I Pull a 7,000 lbs. Travel Trailer With Bunk Beds

You can pull a 7,000 lbs. travel trailer with bunk beds with a full-size SUV or half-ton pickup truck. The examples we presented have a GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) between 6,000 and 7,000 pounds. This is different from an RV with a dry weight (a.k.a. Unloaded Vehicle Weight/UVW) of the same weight.

An RV with a 7,000 lbs. dry weight means that the coach weighs that much when it’s empty. When you fill it with fresh water, your camping gear, food, clothing, and passengers, the total Gross Vehicle Weight (filled-up weight) could be as high as 9,000 pounds or more.

The GVWR is the RV manufacturer’s rating (and various governing agencies) that tells everyone what the safest maximum weight the rig can hold (the keyword is “safe”). If you have a tow vehicle with a 7,700 lbs. towing capacity, realistically, which one of these RVs do you think would be the safest for you to hitch up?

Here are some recommendations on the best SUVs to tow a travel trailer with bunk beds under 7,000 lbs.

15 Awesome Travel Trailers With Bunk Beds

The Best 15 Travel Trailers with Bunk Beds

Sharing is caring!

Travel trailers with bunk beds are true blessings when you have kids, a large family, friends within your RV circles, or just enjoy entertaining guests. And, if you’re concerned about space, the RV industry knows a thing or two about space conservation and innovative, roomy designs.

Bunk beds provide RVers with a larger degree of freedom. When sleeping arrangements are adequate and you don’t have to toss pillows down on the floor or tell guests they’ll have to get a motel, planning is far more convenient.

Of course, not every travel trailer is created equally. So we scrounged around and compiled some of the best options, large and small, available on the RV market. So, if you’re sick of feeling smothered by kiddos sharing your bed, check out our choice of best travel trailers with bunk beds!

1. Airstream Flying Cloud 30FB Bunk

Airstream Flying Cloud 30FB Bunk Exterior

Our Pros And Cons

✅ Prewired ‘Airstream Connect’

⛔ The TV isn’t in the best location for comfortable viewing

  • Length: 23′ 9″
  • UVW: 5,000 lbs
  • GVWR: 6,000 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 500 lbs

This bunk floor design is different from the Airstream Flying Cloud 30 FB Office (which is excellent in its own right). Families will love this floor layout. It’s been popular with families for the past few years. Even before the office space layout came out.

You can choose between the Sunlit Maple with Carolina Clay or the Sunlit Maple with Seattle Mist interior aesthetics. ‘Sunlit’ Maple is a popular wood color with Airstream, though the clay and mist variations are nice and complement cushion color tones.

The huge, U-shaped dinette really stands out and is the perfect size for a traveling family. You also have the jackknife sofa for more leisure on a hot afternoon. There’s a solid amount of counter space and a ton of large overhead storage compartments.

The iconic, classic Airstream aesthetic is prevalent, inside and out, with gleaming, shiny aluminum juxtaposed against light, maple woodwork. It’s a nice look, and the amenities throughout are more than enough to accommodate a large family.

2. Coachmen Catalina Summit Series 8 261BH

Coachmen Catalina Summit Series 8 261BH Exterior

✅ Large, double-bed bunks for big sleepovers

⛔ Counter space is a little limited

  • Length: 30′ 1″
  • UVW: 4,822 lbs
  • GVWR: 6,400 lbs
  • CCC: 1,578 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 515 lbs

The Coachmen RV Catalina Summit Series 8 261BH is very family-friendly. It takes more than bunk beds to make a great RV space for families, and the Catalina does a fantastic job down to the tiniest details. For instance, the sofa has flip-down cup holders so you can lay back and relax or keep the kiddos from spilling their Kool-Aid on the sofa.

Besides, what family doesn’t appreciate fully customizable LED lights on a 15’ electric awning? The 261BH includes a full bathroom, which is nearly a necessity if you have kids along for the ride or frequently host guests.

As far as traveling goes, the leaf-spring suspension isn’t known for being the best but it’s more than adequate. However, the self-adjusting brakes are a welcome addition for those who spend a lot of time on the road. There are five packages to choose from, including one which features interior touch lighting!

3. Cruiser RV Radiance R-28QD

Cruiser RV Radiance R-28QD Exterior

✅ This bad boy sleeps up to 9!

⛔ Vent fan is on the smallish side and could use an upgrade

  • Length: 33′ 4″
  • UVW: 6,680 lbs
  • GVWR: 9,634 lbs
  • CCC: 2,922 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 834 lbs

The Cruiser Radiance R-28QD is all about privacy, featuring a private master bedroom and a private bunkhouse. That’s not the end of the features by any means. For a travel trailer that sleeps 9, accommodations must be made, including a tri-fold sofa, four bunks , and a king in the master bedroom.

Obviously, that’s a lot of people under one roof, so Cruiser took an interesting tack. Instead of a traditional dinette adjacent to the galley, the R-28QD dinette is integrated with a part of the bunkhouse. As you can see on the floorplan, the camp side bunk is over the top of a portion of the dinette.

This does wonders for opening up space in the center area of the RV. The Cruise Radiance also features a full bath, adequate counter space, and a sliding king bed. That’s right, a sliding king gives you some leeway to open up one side of the master bedroom or the other.

A full belly storage system and plenty of cabinets, nooks, and crannies offer plenty of storage capacity for a large group on the road.

4. East to West Della Terra 291BH

East to West Della Terra 291BH Exterior

✅ Fantastic bunkroom design with complete privacy

⛔ Bunkroom and kitchen windows are very small

  • Length: 37′ 8″
  • UVW: 8,328 lbs
  • GVWR: 9,990 lbs
  • CCC: 1,662 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 1,190 lbs

East to West’s Della Terra 291BH manages to pack in bunk beds, space for sleeping up to eight, and a king bed while still remaining a spacious RV overall. With a full bathroom and a radius shower, there’s plenty to accommodate a large family and a feeling of spacious luxury for couples.

The sliding door leading into the bunkhouse is one of those tiny little details that makes a huge difference in space-saving design. The oversized booth dinette and jack knife sofa mean plenty of room for a boy scout eggs and pancakes feast in the mornings.

The Bluetooth and HDMI connectivity always goes over well with kids, and there’s plenty of ceiling height (81”) for taller adults. If you’re traveling through Minnesota in January, the heated, anti-puncture underbelly comes in handy.

One of the lower bunks is a queen that folds into a sofa, so the kid’s or guest room can quickly convert into an alternative entertainment pad.

5. Forest River R-Pod RP-193

Forest River R Pod RP 193 Exterior

✅ A ton of storage for a travel trailer this size

⛔ Sink is outside the bathroom

  • Length: 22′ 2″
  • UVW: 4,059 lbs
  • GVWR: 5,317 lbs
  • CCC: 1,258 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 447 lbs

It’s a rare travel trailer and tear-drop hybrid that comes along, with plenty of space for families or groups. This little ‘R-Pod that could’ manages to do an awful lot in a small amount of space. Only 22’ in length, the RP-193 features a queen Murphy bed, a large bathroom, and twin bunks.

Once the Murphy bed is folded back, the sofa has enough seating room for five if you want to scrunch or enough room for a couple and a very large, space-hogging doggy. The refrigerator is adequate at 6 ft³, and there is a surprising amount of ‘move-around-the-house’ space.

Storage space is also emphasized in the RP-193, with a ton of interior storage options to pack away enough supplies, gear, and luggage for moderate family sizes. Forest River seemed to have anticipated heavy cooking smells in a small space.

Instead of sticking with the status quo, they offer an optional outdoor griddle. Of course, if you like filling your R-Pod up with the smell of bacon, you can still cook indoors.

6. Grand Design Reflection 312BHTS

Grand Design Reflection 312BHTS Exterior

✅ Tankless water heater saves water for large families

⛔ Leaf spring suspension is a bit bumpy

  • Length: 37′ 4″
  • UVW: 9,432 lbs
  • GVWR: 11,295 lbs
  • CCC: 1,863 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 1,044 lbs

It’s always a good idea to follow up a 22’ travel trailer with a 37’+ monster and, with that being said, we arrive at the Grand Design Reflection 312BHTS .  The 312BHTS is nearly 5 tons dry, a pretty sizeable (understatement) travel trailer for a traditional hitch and go.

It’s also one of Grand Design’s top models, so it features the accompanying luxuries and accommodations you would expect in a behemoth. Seeing as you can cram a lot of people in here, the tankless hot water heater comes in very handy. You don’t have to waste water waiting on it to heat up.

The bunk room is fantastic for kids and guests but can easily flip into a fine office or study—even a room with enough space to practice your favorite hobby. If you want to turn it into a gaming center with consoles, smart TVs, or projectors, go for it.

The 312BHTS features a fully loaded outdoor kitchen for family gatherings and cookouts with a dual burner, sink, and mini-fridge.

7. Gulf Stream Envision Signature Series 18RBD

Gulf Stream Envision Signature Series 18RBD Exterior

✅ Features a full, private bath in a small package!

⛔ Only pre-wired for an A/C unit

  • Length: 21′ 1″
  • UVW: 3,160 lbs
  • GVWR: 3,900 lbs
  • CCC: 740 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 320 lbs

The Gulf Stream Envision Signature Series 18RBD features several family-friendly accommodations. Even smaller than the R-Pod, the 18RBD features a full bath, bunks, and a full-size bed. All these are loaded with storage options, whether in the overhead or in the pass-through.

It’s also incredibly easy to set up, with four manual stabilizer jacks. As small as it is, it’s nothing to level and set up once you’re parked. However, you’ll need to keep your eyes open on the market for an A/C since the Envision only comes pre-wired for an A/C unit. Not all RV dealers order A/C units that are optional.

There are a total of three wardrobes, a tub/shower, and a sizeable refrigerator round out the surprising number of campground luxuries Gulf Stream managed to cram in. The dinette is more than adequate for a family of four, and there’s enough living space to add in a foldout chair or two for company.

8. Heartland Prowler 335SBH

Heartland Prowler 335SBH Exterior

✅ Huge living space with plenty of seating

⛔ TV location catches glare from widows to either side

  • UVW: 8,830 lbs
  • GVWR: 11,380 lbs
  • CCC: 2,518 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 1,180 lbs

The triple slide Heartland Prowler 335SBH is a loaded powerhouse for families looking for a roomy, accommodating travel trailer. Heartland is all about ‘largesse’ in its 335SBH model, including a double-door fridge, a long, U-shaped dinette, and a king bed slide-out.

With triple slides, the 335SBH transforms into a highly spacious interior, with large closets, plenty of walking space in the living area, a sofa, and all stainless steel appliances. Outside living is on the menu as well, with a 20’ power awning and a fully loaded, exterior kitchen.

Lighting makes a huge difference, in terms of roomy aesthetics, and the panorama windows make a large living space look even larger. If the kiddos are outside playing, you’ll be able to keep them in the corner of your eye no matter what you’re doing.

For those who use their smartphones as an additional appendage, there are USB charging ports everywhere in this large and comfortable travel trailer. With a completely closed-off bunkhouse and a sizeable room to boot, you have a number of customization options, whether you want a playroom in there or a large entertainment and gaming center.

9. Keystone Bullet 250BHS

Keystone Bullet 250BHS Exterior

✅ It has a laundry chute!

⛔ The TV space is a bit small

  • Length: 29′ 5″
  • UVW: 5,748′
  • GVWR: 7,400 lbs
  • CCC: 1,652 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 715 lbs

Of all the nice things you will find in a Keystone Bullet 250BHS (double-size bunks with one that flips up, bedroom privacy, a 19’ electric awning, exterior kitchen, a large, U-shaped dinette,  bunk beds), the laundry chute is the most amazing. That’s right. The Keystone Bullet 350BHS has a laundry chute.

It also has some extra, L-shaped counter space and a large, 10 ft³ refrigerator. For an ‘ultra-lightweight’ RV, it certainly lacks the feel of it. Even the queen bed in the master bedroom leaves enough ‘walk-around’ space.

Pass-through storage is pretty much a standard feature nowadays, but it’s always good to mention it, especially for those who are traveling with a large enough family to merit the extra storage options.

Sure, the kitchen sink is only a single-basin affair, but it’s also huge and stainless steel! To top everything off, there’s a laundry chute.

10. KZ Sportsmen SE 332BHKSE

KZ Sportsmen SE 332BHKSE Exterior

✅ Tough Shield Exterior and Tufflex roofing

⛔ Bathroom door interferes with the bunk house entrance

  • Length: 37′ 3″
  • UVW: 7,390 lbs
  • GVWR: 8,800 lbs
  • CCC: 1,410 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 930 lbs

It’s an up-and-down, rollercoaster ride with our picks, small to huge, light to heavy. Now, we’re back to large and heavy with the 37’ 3”, three-and-a-half ton LZ Sportsmen SE 332BHKSE . Don’t you just love those long acronyms with three or more digits?

With two bunk beds (one has a Jiffy Sofa on the bottom), an 80” U-shaped dinette, a queen-sized bed in the master bedroom, and a bench seat, there are plenty of rest and relaxation spots for a pretty crowded affair.

KZ is really pushing its Tough-Shield exteriors and Tufflex roofing, both of which are fantastic in terms of durability and longevity. Speaking of technology, the RV Airflow system is fairly impressive on its own, and it will keep the entire trailer cool no matter how many are crowded inside.

There is plenty of storage space as well, with large cabinets throughout, along with pass-through storage (which still retains its obligatory mention even when we’re 10 travel trailers in). Overall, this is an excellent choice for large families.

11. Northwood Nash 29S

Northwood Nash 29S Exterior

✅ Entry door to bathroom keeps the camper cleaner

⛔ Only has one A/C unit

  • Length: 32′ 4″
  • UVW: 6,564 lbs
  • GVWR: 10,700 lbs
  • CCC: 6,564 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 796 lbs

It’s nice to see a simple, three-character name—29S—for our next travel trailer with bunk beds option. The Northwood Nash 29S has a strong, home-feeling, warm aesthetic going for it, something you immediately notice when walking in either of the two entryways.

If you’re kids like plenty of bed space, the double-over-double is more than enough. Also, if you’re having adult guests over, they’ll appreciate the larger real estate they get to lay on. In case you need more sleeping room, the 85” dinette converts into a bed as well.

Both the dinette and the jack knife sofa take up the camp-side slide out and, across from them, you have the galley area with a good deal of counter space and a three-burner stove. The queen-size bed leaves plenty of space to move about, with two, extra deep wardrobes for all your finer clothes.

Back to the bunk beds, the lower bed is hinged, so you can easily move it out of the way and make yourself some office space or give the little ones a little more playroom throughout the day. It even works as an office if you have the extra table and chair to bring in there.

12. Palomino Puma 32BH2B

Palomino Puma 32BH2B Exterior

✅ Features two, full bathrooms

⛔ Walking space is a little more limited with a kitchen island

  • Length: 38′ 6″
  • UVW: 9,023 lbs
  • GVWR: 11,230 lbs
  • CCC: 2,207 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 1,030 lbs

The Palomino Puma 32BH2B is another largish travel trailer on our illustrious, magnificent travel trailers with bunk beds article. It’s pretty awesome too. Palomino sacrificed a bit of living space by opting for a kitchen island but the island is too nice to gripe much, if at all.

It features a dual-basin sink, with outlets on one end and a curving, detachable faucet head for easy rinsing and washing. But, that’s not the star of the show. Aside from the unique layout of the bunkhouse, this Puma has two, full bathrooms!

One is completely enclosed in the private bunkhouse so the kids can have their own bathroom, all to themselves. There’s also a load of storage, especially with the pass-through storage and a separate storage compartment on the exterior.

The bunkhouse is essentially a room unto itself—more than just a spot to sleep and nothing more. It features steps leading up to one of the bunks, with the steps uniquely entangled with a storage closet. The standing space and wall allow room for some customization and a wall-mounted TV.

13. Prime Time Tracer 200BHSLE

Prime Time Tracer 200BHSLE Exterior

✅ Over 3,000 lbs of cargo carrying capacity

⛔ It might be a little packed for more than a small family

  • Length: 24′ 11″
  • UVW: 4,128 lbs
  • GVWR: 7,450 lbs
  • CCC: 3,322 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 450 lbs

The Prime Time Tracer 200BHSLE is another fantastic option. As travel trailers with bunk beds go, it stands up under scrutiny. This is especially true when you consider the goal of Prime Time was to manufacture a roomy travel trailer with bunk beds at a reasonable price.

They did just that. The 200BHSLE features a double over double and plenty of space for a travel trailer with no slides. Some things are packed in a little tight but it still features a full bathroom, a queen with dual-opposing wardrobes, and a sizeable dinette.

You can take your adventures outside as well, with a 17’ awning providing plenty of shade. In order to drive down cost, there is no exterior kitchen but you can pack plenty with over 3,000 lbs of cargo carrying capacity. It’s also a solid travel trailer in the winter, with an enclosed underbelly that’s heated.

The full bathroom is roomy enough that you can do more than just spin in a 360° circle, with enough room in the shower to make cleaning up plenty comfortable. This is a rock-solid travel trailer with bunk beds—affordable, with limited ‘extra options’ and everything you would expect from its class.

14. Rockwood Signature 8336BH

Rockwood Signature 8336BH Exterior

✅ Two refrigerators—one in the bunkhouse and one in the kitchen

⛔ Awning is a bit on the small side at 11′

  • Length: 36′ 8″
  • UVW: 9,669 lbs
  • GVWR: 11,320 lbs
  • CCC: 1,651 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 1,320 lbs

Forest River is back on the list with an ultra-light offering otherwise known as the Rockwood Signature Ultra Light 8336BH. This is also another RV that features a kitchen island. The King-U dinette is as large and comfortable as it sounds, and it sits next to a 60” sofa for plenty of seating options.

The queen bed is a part of the forward, camp-side slide-out, allowing for some much-needed space in the master bedroom. Across the way is a sizeable wardrobe that also features a washer and dryer hook-up . Of course, if you install a washer and dryer, it eats up some of that space.

The awning is on the small side, only 11’, and a part of the central slide-out. However, its location is right next to the exterior kitchen, so it works out in the end. This is also the perfect RV for keeping the kids out of the refrigerator and away from your favorite snacks.

That’s because there is a second fridge in the bunkhouse, beneath the 42” x 72” bunk. Prepare to load up on icicle pops! There’s also plenty of extra space in the bunkhouse so if you want to turn it into a second entertainment center or a large office, the possibilities are endless.

15. Wayfinder RV Go Play 26BH

Wayfinder RV Go Play 26BH Exterior

✅ L-shape living space is designed to accommodate everyone

⛔ Due to an affordability focus, it lacks add-ons and extra options

  • Length: 29′ 6″
  • UVW: 4,740 lbs
  • GVWR: 6,500 lbs
  • CCC: 1,760 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 615 lbs

Last but not least on our travel trailers with bunk beds (it’s the best article on the subject by the way) rundown, is the Wayfinder RV Go Play 26BH. This is another bunk bed offer that is built with affordability in mind, without losing out on the primary features of a nice travel trailer for families.

The L-shaped living space is fairly roomy and is designed to keep everyone from being right on top of each other, even if the whole family is hanging out inside. The dinette folds out into a bed for additional sleeping space and the jack-knife sofa provides even more sitting space for large groups.

If you have kids along for the ride, they’ll be happy to know that the sound system within features Bluetooth, so they can catch stream their favorite tunes without plugging in. The kitchen is fairly sizeable, with moderate counter space and plenty of cabinetry for a fully stocked galley.

The split bathroom actually works out great for a family, allowing you to wash your hands without having to wait for one of the kids to finish up.

It certainly helps that the Wayfinder is one of the most affordably priced travel trailers in its class. If you’re looking for a great travel trailer with bunk beds but don’t need all of the excess, it’s the perfect choice.

How Much Weight Can An RV Bunk Bed Hold?

Generally speaking, an RV bunk bed holds anywhere between 200 lbs and 400 lbs. The specs should be in the RV owner’s manual. It’s worth checking out if the kiddos are planning a slumber party, and there might be two or three hanging out on a bed at a time.

If you have kids, you’re probably familiar with what they can do to a poor bed mattress in short order. This is especially true when they confuse their bed with a trampoline.

Can Adults Sleep In RV Bunk Beds?

For the most part, adults can sleep in RV bunk beds without an issue. The only potential drawback would be height. Bunk beds are usually twins or doubles in terms of size, so someone taller than 6’ might not find it the most comfortable experience.

If you’re tall and sleep curled up, it might be okay for a night or two. Just don’t attempt to stretch out in the middle of the night. Human heads versus walls is mostly a one-sided battle that no one should fight at two o’clock in the morning.

How Can I Make Camper Bunks More Comfortable?

You can make a camper bunk more comfortable by adding mattress toppers or simply changing the mattress to another brand. Most mattress companies manufacture RV mattresses, so you shouldn’t have any trouble tracking down what you want.

Tochta is a popular brand within the RV industry , as well as a few others. One of the benefits Tochta offers RV customers is the opportunity to ‘custom build’ their own mattresses. This includes the mattress size, choice of sheets, mattress protectors, whether or not you want it hinged, and the option to add moisture barrier technology.

For those of us who need a very specific mattress type (it’s also fantastic to have choices when one of your children deals with eczema or gets heat hives), a custom order is the way to go.

4 FAQs On Travel Trailers with Bunk Beds

1. what is a quad-bunk rv called.

They are called bunkhouses. Sure, the term gets thrown around for any RV that has bunkbeds, whether it’s two or four beds total. However, the correct terminology for a quad-bed travel trailer is a bunkhouse. The two-bed versions are just travel trailers with bunk beds.

2. What size are RV bunk beds?

For the most part, RV bunk bed sizes are twins or full-size beds. However, keep in mind there are often disparities between RV bed sizes and residential bed sizes. If you’re RV shopping and need to know, bring a tape measure along or break out the owner’s manual.

3. How do you make sheets fit an RV mattress?

The aforementioned disparity in bed sizes mentioned above is a problem when it comes to buying sheets. Your best bet is to purchase your sheets from camping and online stores with an RV focus.

4. Is it legal to sleep in bed while the RV is moving?

Not in a travel trailer. It may be legal in any type of motorhome, however, it’s a matter of law in the state you’re traveling through or live in. Check your state’s seatbelt laws to find out for sure (in motorhomes, of course), but avoid sleeping in a travel trailer bed while on the move.

What Actually Differs A Bunk House From An RV With Bunk Beds?

Bunkhouse camper units are a terrific choice when your activities include three or more people, especially if those persons are children.

One benefit is that youngsters like having their own private place where they can confide in one other and conceal all of their belongings—toys, clothing, and games—from the RV’s main living area.

The architecture of travel trailers has changed as more RV manufacturers try to draw in families, to suit such bigger groups.

In particular, manufacturers have introduced bunk beds or bunkhouses to their floor patterns to increase sleeping capacity without using more room.

But what distinguishes a bunkhouse from a bunk bed?

The space below the bunk bed in a conventional bunkhouse arrangement often features chairs that may be used as a bed when necessary.

Because it offers versatility to the space and may be used as a sitting area when the bed is not in use, this design is a little better for many campers than simply two bunk beds .

Bunkhouse RVs also provide parents with a place to go when children are asleep, which often includes a door to close off the bunkhouse room.

You may put little Johnny and Suzie to bed after a full day of camping, exploring, and cooking over the campfire while the grownups remain up to relax with a drink of wine or play cards.

You each have a space to “go away” during your camping trip whether it is wet or really chilly outdoors.

Trailer Overview

Coleman has been around for awhile now. They have had since the year 1900 to work out the logistics of their operations, and to understand the best way to fulfill their obligations to their customers. They have done pretty well. Overall, they have a good reputation for producing what are considered quality products that suit the entry or luxury class to which that particular RV is ascribed. As for the Lantern series, Dutchmen has remained consistent in their approach. Perusing the internet forums, you will find a relatively satisfied customer base. There is a lighter version of this series called LT Lantern. Click here , if your tow vehicle requires something a bit lighter.

2. Palomino Puma Travel Trailer

  • 80” Interior Height
  • Floor Ducted Heat
  • 35,000 BTU Furnace
  • Fiberglass Cap

Looking through the floor plans, you will find a large selection of bunkhouse layouts. If their claims are true, Palomino offers the largest selection of bunkhouses in the industry. They have also made the claim that they have a “multitude” of standard features, and I have found that to be true as well (As you can see from the snippet above).

As with almost every RV out there, the craftsmanship is more than questionable. Reports of screws falling out and glued areas needing re-gluing are fairly common. However, I’m not coming across reports of anything serious falling apart. I’m finding a lot of people happy with this line of campers.

3. Keystone Hideout Travel Trailer

Keystone Hideout

  • Diamond Plate
  • Black Tank Flush
  • Full Walk on Roof
  • 96” Exterior Width
  • Lighted Adjustable Power Awning
  • 6 Cubit Feet Refrigerator (Residential for 38BHDS, 38FDDS, 38FKDS, 38FQDS)
  • Built-In 30,000 BTU Furnace
  • 81” Interior Height
  • 4 ½’ Crowned Roof
  • Sleeps 6-10
  • Dry weight 5785-8015

The more popular the brand, the more prolific the complaints. Browsing through the complaint sites, you will find many unhappy customers. However, according to polls and forums, Keystone is a decent manufacturer. According to one poll, 90% of the Keystone customer base would purchase a Keystone again which is a stunningly good percentage.

4. Dutchmen Aspen Trail Travel Trailer

4. Dutchmen Aspen Trail travel trailer

  • Hardwood Cabinet Doors
  • 6 Cubic Feet Gas/Electric Refrigerator
  • 6 Gallon Gas/Electric Water Heater with DSI
  • 82” Interior Height, 6 Feet Ceiling in Slide Room
  • 13,500 BTU Ducted Air
  • High Output Furnace
  • Heated and Enclosed Underbelly
  • Seamless One Piece Roof / Walk-On Roof
  • Diamond Plate Rock Guard
  • Front and Rear Stabilizing Jacks
  • Sleeps 8-11
  • Dry weight 4,811 – 8609

This is a budget class of travel trailers, but it doesn’t act like it. When the compliments are much easier to find than the complains; you’ve probably got something good happening. At least, that’s the case in the RV world. floor plans are well-designed, I’m finding pretty consistent customer service, and good warranty response.

5. Crossroads Zinger Travel Trailer

5. Crossroads Zinger travel trailer

  • Black Tank Flush System
  • 54 Gallon Fresh Water Tank
  • Enclosed and Heated Underbelly with Forced Heat
  • Outside Shower with Hot and Cold Water
  • Nitrogen-filled Tires
  • 6 Cubic Feet Gas/Electric DSI Refrigerator
  • Stainless Steel Oven and Microwave
  • Wall Mounted Systems Monitor Panel
  • Dry weight 5828 – 8770

Crossroads is one of the many subsidiaries of the Thor company collective. Thor started in 1980, and it has grown dramatically. The range of the RV quality varies, but the Crossroads Zinger has some pretty good feedback.

As far as budget class travel trailers go, relatively speaking, these are solidly built with good quality control. Most warranty problems seem to come to reasonable resolutions. They have some lightweight models (Less than 5,000 Pounds), so the weaker tow vehicles have some options.

6. Jayco Jay Fight SLX

Jayco Jay Fight SLX

  • 2-Year Limited Warranty
  • 6-Gallon Gas Water Heater (7-Feet-Wide floor plans)
  • 6-Gallon DSI Water Heater (8-Feet-Wide floor plans)
  • Stabilizer Jacks with Sand Pads(2 in 7-Feet-Wide; 4 in 8-Feet-Wide)
  • Front Diamond Plate
  • Bathroom Skylight
  • Sleeps 3-13
  • Dry weight 2,555 – 7,445

Jayco trailers has been around for half a century, and like Thor, has built an empire. The SLX’s are one of many model lines, and one of its standout features is its lightweight floor plans. If you are interested in the lighter weight plans, you should be aware of the floors. Some floor plans have composite flooring and some have plywood. It has been noted that the Jayco’s composite flooring can develop soft spots, and that the plywood floors don’t have that issue.

Aside from the composite flooring, it has a good reputation. There are some expected durability issues and those, of course, become bigger issues as “lightweight” becomes the highlight feature.

7. Keystone LAREDO

Keystone LAREDO

  • Exterior Marine Grade Speakers

As you can tell by both the name and the weight range, these are the trailers of choice if you don’t have a strong tow vehicle. Their compact floor plans are great for vacationing on a budget.

2016 Dealer Satisfaction Index Quality Circle Award Winner

Inconsistent quality is a pretty big problem. Some reviews are shining and others are not. Looking through reviews and forums, customer service does not appear to be great. Multiple owners have reported having difficulty getting through to the company and some say that the calls are never returned.

10. The Voltage

The Voltage

  • In-Command Operating System ( Control RV Functions From Phone )
  • Central Vacuum
  • Rear Electric Jacks
  • Furion Stereo System with Upgraded Powered Subwoofer
  • Full Sized 21” Oven
  • Atwood 10 Gallon Gas Electric Water Heater w/DSI and 19.7 Gallon/Hours Recovery
  • 8 Cubic Feet Refrigerator
  • Queen Bed (Depends on the Model)

  • Voltage Happi-Jac Electric Bed & Roll Over Sofa System w/Table
  • Prepped for Solar Power
  • Sleeps 7 – 13
  • Dry weight 13,113 – 15,983

There are two versions the Voltage Line. There is the Voltage line and then there is the Voltage Epic line. Both of them offer the bunk bed feature, but we are just going to focus on the Basic Voltage line for today.

The more I look into Dutchmen, the more I like them. Out of the many manufacturers that I have researched (50+), they are one of the most consistently praised by their patrons. I’m not getting paid to say that; It is just what I have noticed.

11. Keystone RV Outback Ultra Lite

Keystone RV Outback Ultra Lite

  • Large Panoramic Windows
  • 36” Flush Floor Slides
  • Bath Skylight
  • His and Her Lighting
  • Tub Surround
  • Polypropylene Heated Enclosed Underbelly
  • Outside Camp Kitchen (Most Models)
  • Front Diamond Plate Rock Guard
  • Electric Awning with LED Strip Lights
  • Sleeps 4 – 8
  • Dry weight 4,921 – 6,676

Considered to be medium-level quality trailer with a relatively pleased customer base. It is lightweight, so there will be a drop in overall durability. The most prolific issues seem to be with the roof, so do a thorough inspection of the ceiling before purchasing if this line of trailers interest you.

12. Freedom Express Ultra Lite

Freedom Express Ultra Lite

Defining Features (The features listed the Freedom Value Package)

  • 2 External Speakers, 4 rnal Speakers
  • Ducted Furnace (Not in Trailers Smaller Than 25’)
  • Ducted Ceiling, Air Conditioning (Not in Trailers Smaller Than 25’)
  • Satellite Ready
  • Spare Tire Kit
  • Heated Enclosed Underbelly (Not in the Expandable’s)
  • Sleeps 8 – 10
  • Dry weight 5,263 – 7,734

The 320BHDS has been noted to have a “design flaw” that ruins the floors with water when driving through hard rain. It appears to be an issue with that specific model, so be aware of that. The year was unspecified.

Coachmen was purchased by Forest River in 2008, and some have expressed concern about a potential drop in dependability. However, the quality hasn’t appeared to be negatively affected, and overall, they seem to be maintaining a level of quality that is competitively consistent.

13. Shasta Travel Trailer

Shasta Trailer

  • 18,000 BTU Furnace
  • Marine Grade External Speakers
  • 13,500 BTU AC
  • 6 Cubic Foot Refrigerator (3’ for 18’ models)

  • 1-Year Coachnet Roadside Assistance Program
  • 1-Year Forest River Hitch-to-Bumper Warranty
  • Sleeps up-to 10
  • Dry weight 3,182 – 5,893

Good construction, good interior storage, and wide-bodied; those are the kinds of comments that I have been coming across. I’m not finding a lot of bad reviews with this one. This line of trailers has an uncommonly positive level of feedback

14. Forest River Salem

Salem Trailer

  • 12-Year Roof Warranty
  • Triple Seal Slide Out System
  • Dometic Double Door Refrigerator (2 Year Warranty)
  • 3 Burner Range (2 Year Warranty)
  • 13,500 BTU Roof Air Conditioner w/ Quick Cool
  • 25BTU Suburban Forced Air DSI Furnace w/ Digital Thermostat (2 Year Warranty)
  • Solid Bedroom PrivacyDoors (Most Models)
  • Dry weight 6,223 – 9,139

Forest River is a budget class RV, so I’m not going to lie and say that everything is fantastic. The sealant will need to be replaced, screws are going to pop out, and parts will eventually fall into disrepair. You should do your research, so that you know what you should expect from an RV within this price range. After accepting that these lower-priced RVs are going to be problematic, you will know whether or not you should pay for something a bit higher up on the RV food chain.

So, why am I recommending it? Honestly, it isn’t a horrible starting point. If you aren’t ready to buy a mid-to-high range RV, then this is a good early step. It will serve you provided that you are also ready to serve it with a little elbow grease and a little more know-how.

15. Shadow Cruiser

Shadow Cruiser

  • 6’9” Vaulted Ceiling
  • Dual Ducted 13.5 BTU A/C
  • High Gloss Fiberglass Exterior
  • Hardwood Framed Cabinet Doors
  • Power Awning with LED Strip
  • 6 Gallon DSI Gas/Electric Water Heater
  • Dry weight 4,340 – 7,260

Built on a budget; the Shadow Cruiser isn’t a top of the line class. It is, however, a way for families to get into the camper life without breaking the bank. These are some of the best selling RVs on the market because they make the first steps of this RV adventure a little bit easier. If you are prepared to take on the responsibilities of RV ownership…and that means making the occasional repair that budget RVs inherently present, then this might be an RV line worth considering.

Easy Alternative Bunk Bed Option

Buying a new travel trailer is a big purchase and I along with others recommend looking around for a year before your purchase since it gives you time to see all the models on the market as well as for the new models to gather up some reviews. An easy option in the meantime is to simply pack a set of bunk beds in your current trailer. This bunk bed from Kid-O-Bunk on Amazon is a nice alternative that may work nicely for you until you are ready to make the big purchase.

Conclusion on RVs with Bunk Beds

There are a lot of trailers to choose from when deciding on the best bunkhouse trailer for your family and there are still more to choose from that we did not include on our list. I recommend this list as merely a starting point. Not every trailer that is good for one family is good for another. Features vary widely and it’s important you take your time to choose the right one for your family. Explore the options available and see what works for you.

The double bunks are located in the rear corner of the trailer. Unlike smaller bunkhouses, the Apex has a private main bedroom, separated from the living area by an entertainment center and two curtains.

Another awesome midsize travel trailer with bunk beds is the Grand Design Imagine 2800BH. The double bunks are located in the rear corner of the RV next to the full bathroom.

The main bedroom in the front of the trailer has a queen bed and a sliding door for complete privacy. There is plenty of seating in the spacious living area, which includes a U-shaped dinette and a tri-fold sofa.

The kitchen incudes a range, a microwave, a refrigerator and tons of storage space. Additional storage can be found under the bed. The oversized under bed storage includes a sliding storage tray to provide easy access to regularly used items.

Keystone Cougar Half-Ton 30BHS

Length: 34 feet, 5 inches

Best Bunkhouse Travel Trailers: Cougar 30BHS

We toured hundreds of RVs at this year’s Florida RV SuperShow , and the Keystone Cougar Half-Ton 30BHS was by far my favorite bunkhouse floorplan. The unique layout includes rear bunks that extend the width of the RV.

The position of the bunks creates a separate area for kids and makes the beds more accessible. In the front of the RV is a large, private bedroom with a king bed. The bathroom sits between the living area and the bedroom.

The main living area includes an L-shaped dinette, a tri-fold sofa and a fireplace. The kitchen has a full range, a microwave, a double sink, a 12 volt fridge and plenty of counterspace. Arched rafters create a spacious interior with 7 foot ceilings.

Heartland Trail Runner 31DB

Best Bunkhouse Travel Trailers: Trail Runner 31DB

The second Heartland RV on our list of the best bunkhouse travel trailers is the Trail Runner 31DB. This big rig has much more space and many more exciting features than the tiny Pioneer.

The rear of the RV houses an entire kids’ suite. Inside the suite is a private bedroom with a single over double bunk bed, a shirt closet and a half bathroom. In the front of the trailer is a main bedroom with a queen bed and a full bathroom.

In the main living area, there is a dinette booth and a large sofa. The corner kitchen features bright, white cabinets and stainless steel appliances. Perhaps the most unique feature of this RV is the huge pantry, located behind the TV next to the entry door.

Venture SportTrek ST333VIK

Length: 37 feet, 8 inches

Best Bunkhouse Travel Trailers: Venture SportTrek ST333VIK

Another amazing (and enormous) rear bunkhouse travel trailer is the Venture SportTrek ST333VIK. The bunkroom includes a normal height single bed, and a raised top bunk which sits over a storage cabinet.

The lower bed is perfect both for smaller children who are at risk of falling from higher bunks and teenagers who need more headroom. The huge bunkroom is also great for teenagers because it also has a sofa (with another flip-up bunk above it), a table and a flip-up desk.

Outside the bunkroom is a full (second) bathroom. The other bathroom is located in the front of the trailer next to the main bedroom with a queen bed.

While the bunkroom is the star of this RV, the main living area does not disappoint either. With the optional king dinette, the combination sofa/dining area can comfortably seat 5 to 6 people. The large kitchen has an island and a hutch that makes a perfect coffee station.

Keystone Hideout 38FKTS

Length: 39 feet, 11 inches

Best Bunkhouse Travel Trailers: Hideout 38FKTS

Mid-bunk floorplans are super common in fifth wheel RVs, but rare in travel trailers. The Hideout 28FKTS is the best mid-bunk travel trailer available.

The bunkroom includes a upper bunk with a cube bunk below. The cubes can be moved around and used as chairs during the day. A wardrobe, which doubles as a desk completes the room.

The main bedroom has a queen bed and is located in the rear of the trailer. The full bath sits between the two bedrooms. In the main living area, there is a dinette booth, a recliner and a trifold sofa. The front kitchen has white cabinets and tons of storage space.

Top 10 Small Travel Trailers With Bunks (Under 22 FT)

Winnebago Micro Minnie 2100BH

Travel trailers with bunks are among the most popular campers today, especially for families.

Thanks to their high sleeping capacity, kid-friendly layout, efficient use of space, and greater flexibility.

However, a common challenge with most bunkhouse travel trailers is their large size and heavy weight, which can make them difficult to manage and tow.

Fortunately, there are many smaller campers that offer the benefits of a bunkhouse trailer but in a more compact and manageable package.

So for those seeking a compact camper with bunks, we created this blog post highlighting some of the most popular and best small travel trailers with bunks .

Best Small Travel Trailers With Bunks (Smallest to Largest)

1. scamp 13 standard trailer, quick specs.

  • Average Cost : $17,000
  • Length : 13 Feet
  • Dry Weight : 1,200 – 1,500 Pounds
  • Gross Vehicle Weight Rating : 2,000 Pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity : 4
  • Bathroom : N/A
  • Slide-Outs : None

The Scamp 13 Standard Trailer, measuring 13 feet in length and weighing between 1,200 to 1,500 pounds, is the smallest and lightest travel trailer equipped with bunks.

Making it an ideal choice for those with less capable tow vehicles, such as four-cylinders and compact SUVs .

However, even if you do have a more capable tow vehicle, the Scamp’s compact footprint ensures easier towing and maneuverability.

Plus, its compact size allows travelers to access more remote or smaller campsites, often out of reach for larger RVs.

Scamp 13 Standard Trailer Floorplan

Scamp 13 Trailer Standard Layout 1

Despite its compact size though, the trailer is still packed with comfort and convenience features.

These include amenities such as electricity, running water, a kitchenette, a dinette booth, and most notably for this list, a sleeping capacity for four with bunk beds .

However, there’s a catch, because opting for bunk beds in the Scamp 13 means losing a bathroom.

As the Scamp 13 Standard Trailer is available in two different layouts – one with front bunk beds and the other with a front wet bath.

So as with all compact campers, especially those only 13 feet long, some sacrifices or compromises will have to be made.

In order to have the convenience of a small travel trailer.

To explore the Scamp 13 Standard Trailer further or to browse other offerings from Scamp, like the Scamp 16 , check out Scamp’s website by clicking here .

2. Winnebago Hike H1316TB

  • Average Cost : $25,000
  • Length : 15 Feet 11 Inches
  • Dry Weight : 3,122 Pounds
  • Gross Vehicle Weight Rating : 4,200 Pounds
  • Bathroom : 3-Piece Wet Bath

Winnebago makes some of the most popular travel trailer models with bunks on the market.

One of their recent offerings is the Winnebago Hike H1316TB, which spans a mere 15 feet 11 inches.

Making it the smallest fully-contained travel trailer with bunk beds .

Because, unlike the above Scamp, there’s no need to sacrifice the bathroom to accommodate bunks.

As the Hike H1316TB offers a four-person sleeping capacity with bunks, as well as a full three-piece wet bath.

Winnebago Hike H1316TB Floorplan

Winnebago Hike H1316TB Floorplan

Beyond its sleeping accommodations, the Winnebago Hike also includes a convertible sofa, a large foldable table, a wardrobe, and a full-featured kitchen complete with a convection microwave oven.

You may wonder how a travel trailer, measuring under 16 feet, can offer so many features and amenities.

The key lies in the trailer’s innovative rear bed setup, as the H1316TB offers a convertible couch, a fixed single lower bunk, and a flip-down single upper bunk .

This combination when combined provides a four-person sleeping capacity, even in such a small space.

For more information on the Winnebago Hike H1316TB, check out Winnebago’s website by clicking here .

3. Jayco Jay Feather Micro 171BH

  • Average Cost : $26,000

5 Family Travel Trailers with Quad Bunkhouse Layouts

Quad Bunkhouse

The old stereotype of retired couples driving around the country in tiny RVs has shifted dramatically in recent years. Instagram feeds are now clogged with stylish millennials flaunting exotic locales and life on the road in shiny, modern-looking vans and trailers.

But where is the in-between on-road adventure for families traveling with children? If you’re past the newlywed stage but not quite ready to retire, a quad bunkhouse could be the answer to your travel dreams.

Even if you are a young couple, a retired couple, or simply someone who travels with friends and needs more sleeping space in your RV, there are a variety of options to increase your floor plan without having to spend the money on a Class A motorhome monster.

If you’re unfamiliar with the quad bunkhouse style, this is an excellent way to maximize your sleeping and recreation space. Bunkhouses are tiered sleeping areas, such as bunk beds, that allow you to use the vertical space in your RV without taking up too much floor space. A quad bunkhouse will have four bunks and, in most cases, a master sleeping area with a larger bed designed for two people.

We’ve found five travel trailers with quad bunkhouse layouts that help maximize sleeping space inside, so you, your family, and your friends can enjoy being on the road together while also being comfortable when it’s time for lights out.

Table of Contents

1. Highland Ridge Open Range Roamer 310BHS

Highland Ridge’s Open Range Roamer 310BHS is an excellent choice for families. With their ACCU-SLIDE slide system, this model’s four slideouts make it extra roomy and easy to set up and take down.

This feature provides support at four points on the inside and four points on the outside to ensure the slide extends and retracts smoothly and securely.

Inside, you’ll find hardwood cabinet doors, LED ceiling lights, and no carpets in the living and kitchen areas, making cleanup a breeze and the space suitable for both children and pets.

The kitchen comes standard with an 8-cubic-foot refrigerator, which can be upgraded to an 18-cubic-foot refrigerator. The kitchen is simple to use thanks to solid surface countertops, plenty of outlets in the prep area, and a center island.

The outdoor cooking area includes a sink, mini-fridge, prep area, and three-burner pull-out cooktop, as well as space to mount a 32-inch TV, which is ideal for game days.

The primary seating area is on the main slide, which has either a dinette and plush seating or a large u-lounger with two removable tables. The center section of the lounger also serves as a queen-sized hide-a-bed, bringing the interior’s total sleeping capacity to nine.

The rear bunkhouse room has a booth-style dinette area that converts to a bed with a top bunk on one side and two bunks on the opposite side, as well as additional storage drawers under the lower bunk, which doubles as a couch during the day.

The bunkroom and master bedroom are both accessible through French doors, lending this travel trailer a more residential feel while also reducing noise levels.

The master suite includes a wardrobe slide with built-in drawers and additional hanging storage space. The queen-sized bed has extra storage above, LED lighting, end tables, and interior access to the bathroom.

This travel trailer has 367 square feet of space and an exterior length of slightly more than 37 feet. It spans 165 inches with the slides fully extended and has a road width of 100 inches, making it a wide load.

Customers appreciate the large master bedroom closet and the second a/c unit with digital thermostat. They also like the shelving on the bunkroom’s back wall and the thoughtfully netted shelves that keep everything in its place.

2. Jayco Jay Flight 32TSBH

travel trailer with queen bunks

Jayco’s Jay Flight 32TSBH travel trailer is another model we like. This model is ideal for families because it has plenty of space to relax and sleep.

This is their triple slide bunkhouse travel trailer, which has two slides for the bunkhouse at the back of the trailer and a larger slide for the living area in the main body of the trailer.

The front bedroom of the trailer has an 80-inch Simmons mattress and wardrobes on both sides. The entertainment center separates the bedroom from the living area. The living area’s slide houses a sofa with an optional hide-a-bed and a horseshoe dinette.

The pantry is next to the dinette, and the kitchen has a double sink, a cooktop with hood, an 8-cubic-foot refrigerator, overhead cabinets, and pull-out drawers. This model also includes an outdoor kitchen with a refrigerator, sink, pull-out two-burner cooktop, and extra cabinet space.

The bunkhouse at the trailer’s back is roomy, thanks to the two slideouts that house the sleeping areas. Jayco’s signature J-cube sofa serves as a lower bunk with the top bunk overhead on one side.

The opposite slide also has two bunks, and the back wall has a built-in entertainment unit with cabinets, a flip-up table, and a TV mount.

The bathroom is located between the kitchen and the bunkhouse, making it easy for the kids to use in the middle of the night. The bathroom features an amazing skylight and a porcelain foot-flush toilet, and while the bathroom has a shower, this model also has an outdoor shower.

This Jayco travel trailer has an exterior length of two inches more than 36 feet and a road width of 96 inches. The addition of a second tank increases the freshwater capacity from 40 to 80 gallons, and the pass-through storage feature makes this model suitable for even large families.

Customers appreciate Jayco’s standard two-year warranty, and dealerships report that this model has a high level of customer satisfaction.

This floor plan is extremely popular because parents appreciate the fact that their children have their own room, and placing the bunkhouse in the back means that the living and dining areas do not have to be reconfigured when everyone is ready for bed.

3. Keystone Passport 292BH SL Series

The Keystone Passport 292BH SL series travel trailer, which sleeps eight comfortably and is similar in layout to the Jayco Jay Flight, is another great option for families on the road. This model’s aluminum framing keeps it lighter in weight than other models with comparable features, making it easy to tow.

The bunker hatch is a fantastic feature of the bunkhouse. A deadbolting cargo door on the outside opens to reveal gas struts that assist in easily lifting the bunk to reveal cargo space complete with easy-touch lighting and plenty of storage space.

The bunkhouse has four bunks as well as a wardrobe with a TV shelf. Another cool feature is that three of the bunks have their own set of USB plugs, reducing the need to share outlets.

This travel trailer’s single slide extends to accommodate the leather tri-fold sofa sleeper and u-shaped dinette. The large windows in this area let in plenty of natural light, and the lighting above these areas is controlled by a touch-sensitive switch on the slide wall, which also controls the dimmer lighting.

There are also numerous outlets and USB connections in the living area, as well as cabinets under the dinette seating for additional storage. The adjacent pantry has a hanging rack and adjustable shelving, allowing you to tailor the storage to your family’s needs.

The kitchen is outfitted with hardwood cabinetry, overhead storage, and pull-out drawers. The wastebasket can be stored in the cabinet beneath the stainless steel farmhouse-style sink, and the storage in the L-shaped peninsula countertop is easily accessible.

A tempered glass stove top with three burners, a range hood, and a 6 cubic foot double-door refrigerator round out the kitchen.

The residential queen-sized bed in the master bedroom has USB charging ports on both sides. The shiplap front wall gives the sleeping area a headboard feel, and there are hanging wardrobes on either side of the bed, nighttime reading lights, and under-bed storage.

This Keystone Passport model is a manageable 32 feet, 4 inches long, which means it will be easy to find a campsite for, as campsites become more limited once your trailer exceeds 35 feet in length.

Customers appreciate how stable this model is to tow and how spacious the interior is, even when the slide is closed in travel mode. They also enjoy using the 15-foot electric awning and the outside kitchen when the weather is nice.

4. Crossroads Sunset Trail SS289QB

Crossroads’ Sunset Trail Super Lite models are another good option if you need a lot of sleeping space but prefer a lighter weight travel trailer.

Crossroads Super Lite models feature 6-sided aluminum construction, solid surface countertops, LED interior lights, an Extreme Weather package, and a fiberglass front cap.

The barreled ceiling, which gives the interior a more spacious and homey feel, is one appealing feature of this model.

The Sunset Trail sleeps up to ten people and has a king-sized bed in the master bedroom as well as dual wardrobes. The living area’s slide houses a 64-inch sleeper sofa and a 42-inch dinette that can be upgraded to a free-standing table and chairs.

A glass top, flush mount range cover, stainless steel microwave, ceramic backsplash, and either a 6 or 7 cubic foot refrigerator with a magnetized door are included in the kitchen. The bathroom features a 36-inch shower with glass enclosure and skylight.

The rear bunkhouse features a dinette that converts to sleeping space and an upper bunk on a sturdy hinge that can be quickly moved up for more headroom in the dinette area if needed.

Two more bunks complete this space, which also includes a wardrobe with TV hookups just above to easily convert it into an entertainment center.

A mini-fridge and a pull-out cooking area with a sink and two-burner cooktop are included in the exterior camp kitchen.

A 16-foot retractable power awning provides shade, and the exterior is ready for satellite installation with an easy-access pass-through storage area.

The Crossroads Sunset Trail SS289QB is 32 feet, 9 inches long and weighs only 5661 pounds, so it doesn’t require the most powerful tow vehicle.

Customers appreciate how well-made and light this model is in comparison to models with similar floor plans. They also like the outdoor kitchen and the interior layout, which is ideal for families and keeps everyone comfortable.

5. Prime Time Tracer Breeze 31BHD

The Prime Time Tracer Breeze 31 BHD with dual slides is the third option for a lighter weight bunkhouse-style travel trailer. Even though it is slightly heavier than the other models we’ve discussed, at 6300 lbs, it can still be towed by a vehicle with a half-ton towing capacity.

This trailer has a retractable lit awning that runs almost the entire length of it. In addition to the standard cooktop, it has an outside kitchen with a mini-fridge, sink, and stainless steel grill. The interior kitchen features a two-door refrigerator, three-burner cooktop, and lighted range hood.

A large sink with a high-rise faucet is accommodated by the seamless L-shaped kitchen counter. The kitchen countertop matches the dinette table, which is a nice touch. The kitchen cabinets are made of solid wood and have a cherry finish, as well as sturdy brushed nickel hardware. The cabinetry also includes pull-out kitchen drawers to help with organization.

One of the trailer’s two slides houses the quad bunkhouse, which has three standard bunks and one wider bunk with storage underneath. The bunkhouse also includes three screened windows, a ceiling vent, and a standing wardrobe with shelving for storage.

There is a large 40-inch corner shower with a seat in the bathroom. To make evening bathroom runs easier, the sink has cabinet storage below and above it, as well as an open shelf unit, a foot-flush toilet, and motion sensor lighting.

The 87-inch horseshoe dinette is located next to the large double-door pantry and the plush leather residential couch, which extends into an additional bed in the second slide area. This living area is carpeted for a cozy feel and has two large frameless windows for plenty of natural light.

The master bedroom features a queen-sized bed with an Evergreen Select foam mattress, two hanging wardrobes, and overhead storage. The most exciting aspect of this model is that it has won the DSI multiple times because of its high standards in design, construction, testing, and customer service.

Its Eternabond construction, which includes laminated aluminum framed sidewalls, rear walls, main floor, and slideout walls and roof, contributes to that high standard.

It also has a gel-coated fiberglass exterior, which adds strength while keeping it lightweight. This model also has 3/8-inch walk-on roof decking for easy maintenance and snow load-approved 5-inch truss rafters.

Customers appreciate the spacious shower, large sleeping capacity, and overall quality of this well-built travel trailer. With an exterior length of 34 feet, 6 inches and a width of 96 inches, this travel trailer can go almost anywhere with minimal effort.

Traveling in the Prime Time Tracer Breeze gives you peace of mind no matter the terrain or the weather, thanks to a 12-year warranty on the one-piece TPO roof.

If you’re traveling as a family, it can be tricky to find travel trailers with enough sleeping accommodations for everyone.

Although many travel trailers have sofa beds and convertible dinettes, these sleeping areas may only accommodate two or three people. You also have to convert your living space every night when it’s time for bed.

An excellent solution is travel trailers with a dedicated bunkhouse at the rear of the vehicle.

Some trailers have four bunks, so that you don’t need to bother transforming your living area each night.

A quad bunk travel trailer provides more privacy and comfort, since the bunkhouse is essentially a second bedroom.

Many of these trailer layouts also include additional outdoor kitchens for prepping large meals, higher capacity water tanks to support more people, and additional features or systems for accommodating families.

Coachmen Freedom Express Select Review

How to choose the best quad bunks travel trailer?

You can’t decide your best option based on how many people can sleep in it. There needs to be enough storage space for them to place their belongings as well.

Plus, there should be enough bunk beds in the trailer for them to sleep in comfort. And of course, with more people inside, you will need your camper to have a bit more height for a better room.

Otherwise, the trailer would seem all cramped up for space.

Do bunkhouse travel campers come in shorter sizes and what is the smaller one?

The short answer is yes! While bunkhouse travel campers are generally the same height as their non-bunkhouse counterparts, they are typically shorter in length. The longer answer is that it depends on the model. Some models have a shorter length because they’re designed to be used with a custom-built queen bed frame. Others are shorter because they’re designed to be more compact and stackable.

If you’re buying a bunkhouse travel camper from a manufacturer that makes them for sale, then you should know the lengths of each model so you can make an informed decision about which one is right for you.

What is the most significant advantage of a quad bunks travel trailer?

The most significant advantage of a quad bunks travel trailer is the ability to store all of your stuff in one place. When you’re travelling, you don’t want to have to carry all your belongings with you. A quad bunk travel trailer allows you to pack as much as possible in one spot and then find space for everything else when you arrive at your destination.

Another advantage of having a quad bunks travel trailer is that it’s easy to set up. It doesn’t take much space or effort on your part to set up your bedding, food supplies, and toys. All that’s required is a good set of directions from the manufacturer and some common sense!

What should I look for when buying a bunkhouse travel trailer?

When you’re looking for a bunkhouse travel trailer, there are a few things that you should look for.

First, think about how much space you’ll need in your new Quad bunk travel trailer. You want to make sure that there’s enough space for all of your belongings, especially if you’re planning to have pets or children with you on the road. If you’re looking to take more people than just yourself (say, if you have kids), then make sure that there’s enough room in the bunkhouse for everyone—it’s not just about ensuring enough headroom and foot space.

Next, think about the amenities that they offer in their bunkhouse travel trailers . Do they have a bathroom? If so, what type of bathroom do they have? Is it something like a porta-potty or an actual toilet? Is there a foot flush ? Is a spacious shower included? Does it have a king-sized bed ? If it has only two beds and no other amenities (like a kitchen or couch), then maybe look elsewhere; but if there are plenty of other features available as well as access to electricity, then this may be a good choice for your needs!

Lastly, think about how long it will take until you can use all of these amenities.

Which is the best quad bunk travel trailer?

The best quad bunks travel trailer in our opinion is the Jayco Eagle . It comes with a luxurious interior and provides you with that relaxing home-like feel with its comfortable and cozy interior.

There is plenty of sleeping room and space for storage as well as comfortably move around the trailer. There are a huge kitchen and a bathroom with double access.

It comes with numerous amenities that will make your camping experience a whole lot of fun. It’s essentially your home-away-from-home.

Lastly, think about how long it will take until you can use all of these amenities

What travel trailers have 4 bunk beds?

If you’re looking for bunkhouse travel trailers with four bunk beds that are queen-sized, we have a few options for you.

First, there’s the Dutchmen Kodiak Ultimate 3321BHSL bunkhouse travel trailer from Kodiak. This model has four queen-sized bed bunks , and it has a sleeping space of up to eight people. It also has a kitchen with a three-burner cooktop and counter space, so you can cook up some yummy food while you’re camping!

The other option is the Keystone Passport Travel Trailer 3351BH GT Series bunkhouse travel trailer , which also has four queen-sized bed bunks . This one is even more spacious than the first model, meaning that it can sleep up to 12 people! It also has a kitchen area with a u-shaped dinette so you can prepare your meals while enjoying the great outdoors.

Which travel trailers are the most reliable?

There are plenty of bunkhouse travel trailers out there, but which ones are the most reliable?

We’ve done the research, and these are the top ones.

First on our list is the Coachmen RV travel trailer . Its features make it a great choice for families with young kids. It has a rear-facing bed, so your little ones will sleep soundly in their own space—and not get tangled up in their big brother’s bunk. The Coachmen also comes with awnings on both sides, so your whole family can enjoy some shade when you’re camping in sunny weather!

Next up is the Jayco Jay Trailers—these travel quad bunk trailers come with an awning that folds down over their beds, so you don’t have to worry about your kids sleeping on the ground or getting sunburned. They also have all-around windows for better ventilation and visibility while travelling down the roadways. These models come with directly forced air conditioning units as well. They have been one of the most reliable brands that always listen to their customers.

How to winterize your RV Camper?

  • Firstly, you should stabilize and level your trailer.
  • Then clean the surfaces from top to bottom thoroughly.
  • Clean out the fridge and empty it out.
  • Do clean out sewer hoses and drains.

Is there a 4-season camper?

Yes! There is a 4-season camper such as the Jayco Eagle.

The best part about this type of camper is that it comes with everything you need: sleeping bags, pillows, and cooking utensils. It even has built-in solar panels so that you don’t have to worry about running out of power while camping! The outdoor kitchen features full utensils, a cookstove, and a sitting area.

The 4-season camper is the perfect solution for anyone who wants to experience camping in the great outdoors but doesn’t want to sacrifice comfort. With a hardtop and cover design, this camper can go anywhere you do.

It’s lightweight enough to be towed by your car or truck, so you can enjoy your favourite scenic location as long as it’s not too far away. You’ll also find that its size makes it easy to manoeuvre in tight spaces like campgrounds or at neighbour’s houses.

You’ll find an excellent outdoor kitchen area complete with a

  • Full-size double-door refrigerator
  • Microwave oven
  • Three burner cooktop burners
  • Toilet and vanity sink with faucet and drain plug,
  • Table and chairs for eating meals together as a family unit (or just as a group of friends)
  • Plenty of storage space for your clothes

Which travel trailer lasts the longest?

Generally speaking, the type of roof on your camper is directly related to its lifespan.

We’ve considered quality, durability, and price to compile a list.

RV Roof Types:

There are three primary types of RV roofs:

1 . Fiber-glass roofing: This is the most common type of RV roofing in use today, and it’s easy to see why. The glass cover offers a durable, long-lasting surface that stands up well to the elements, such as snow and rain. It’s also an attractive option for those who want their RV to look like a traditional motor home, but with added insulation.

2. Aluminum: This type of RV roofing is less common these days because it tends to be more expensive than glass cover or other materials. However, it does offer some benefits over fibreglass in that it can be installed quickly and easily by homeowners, which makes it an appealing option for those living on a tight budget who want a more traditional look without paying extra for repairs later on down the road!

3. Rubber: This is another option that doesn’t get as much attention as others due to its cost (in addition to being less durable), but if you’re looking for something unique and fun then this is the choice for you.

RVs with poorly maintained roofs are prone to leaks, which can lead to mould growth. By checking your roof often, you’ll be able to detect problems before they get worse.

Fiberglass travel trailers generally last longer than aluminium ones. They are built to withstand harsher conditions, and they are the perfect mix of soft and durable construction.

Aluminium trailers are more likely to be dented by accidents and other heavy hits, which can cause their value to drop.

What size are camper bunks?

Camper bunks come in all kinds of sizes, and that’s totally cool. Some people want to stay on the ground, with a roof over their heads. Others want to set up camp on top of their car as you’d do at a campsite. Still, others want something more luxurious than just a sleeping bag—they want their own bed and sleeping space!

But whatever your bunks are made of, they’re going to fit someone comfortably.

Most camper bunks are made out of steel, which is why they’re often called “trailer” beds. They’ll be big enough for two people to sleep in—or even more if need be.

How tall are bunk beds in RV?’

Bunk beds in RVs are generally the same size as regular beds, but there are some differences. For example, the height of bunk beds varies depending on the model. Some models have a footboard that can be used to raise the height of the bunk frame and make it easier for children to climb into bed while others have a flip-up bunk.

Must have items for RV life:

  • Microfiber clothes.
  • Extra door handler.
  • Dog food holder.
  • Shower hookup.

The smallest bunkhouses and bunkroom travel trailers on the market help families with individualized sleeping space, giving privacy to the parents. How small should a small bunkhouse travel trailer be considered SMALL? In general, we refer to small campers when we are talking about travel trailers under 20 feet long (even under 26 feet long still is considered small enough), and this shortness is also often combined with the lightest features keeping the bunkhouse travel trailer small and between 2500 and 5000 pounds (very lightweight).

Why Choose a Small Bunkhouse Travel Trailer?

Small bunkhouse travel trailers have advantages over huge RVs. First, they are easy to tow and park, which is a benefit, especially for inexperienced drivers.

However, all that comfort, room, and convenience typically comes at a cost.

Every year more RV manufacturers make new bunkhouse travel trailers in the smallest campers. Some even design private bunkhouses (bunk rooms) in these small travel trailers, which is very beneficial when kids grow up.

Clipper Ultra-lite 15CBH: Small Bunkhouse Trailer with Bathroom Under 2500 Pounds

Coachmen RV’s Clipper line has always been synonymous with being one of the best small bunkhouse travel trailers under 20 feet , plus the ability for RVers to have a lightweight trailer with a bathroom .

This time, the 2023 Clipper Ultra-lite 15CBH is a prime example of a lightweight, small bunkhouse travel trailer with a bathroom for a family of 4.

Almost any car and SUV can tow the 15CBH bunkhouse travel trailer. At only 2540 pounds, in addition to being a lightweight bunkhouse trailer , it is one of the smallest 4-person travel trailers with bathrooms on the market. Starting price at $ 16,000.

This floor plan offers features not usually found in small bunkhouse campers . On the outside, you will find a large pass-through exterior compartment allowing this small trailer’s interior to be more uncluttered, and a 10-foot-long powered awning with LED light on the edge.

To the right of the entry door, you will find a spacious booth dinette sized to 4 people (according to the sleeping capacity of this small bunkhouse), which can easily be converted into a queen-size bed. The dinette is also well placed to enjoy the entertainment center prepared with a cable TV hook-up and the optional fireplace offered by the Clipper 15CBH.

With no slides out, this camper has a versatile kitchen to prepare your meals without hassle and is suitable for the four people this small bunkhouse travel trailer can accommodate. The kitchen has a 2-burner stove, a microwave oven (optional), and a 3.0 cu. Ft. electric refrigerator is the standard option which can be upgraded by opting for the 3.3 CU. FT. 2-way refrigerator (gas/electric), a pantry, and a kitchen sink with sink cover that is useful for preparing meals.

Also, large overhead shelves and cabinets are distributed along the Clipper Ultra-lite 15CBH.

smallest bunkhouse travel trailers with bathroom under 20 feet clipper

At the rear of this small bunkhouse camper under 20 feet are the bathroom and the bunkhouse. One of the most spectacular things about this floor plan is that it is a lightweight small bunkhouse travel trailer with a bathroom , where it is also a dry bathroom, with a separate foot-flushable toilet and oversized shower (24″x36″), and all in only about 17 feet long .

The two 28″x72″ bunk beds have window curtains and USB charging ports for each. The bunkhouse is adjacent to the bathroom.

The standard floor plan of the Clipper Ultra-lite 15CBH includes a 20K BTU Suburban furnace, a 13.5K BTU roof-mounted air conditioner, and a 6-gallon gas/electric DSI water heater, making this camper one of the perfect small bunkhouse travel trailers with bathroom on the current market.

Jay Flight SLX 154BH: Small Bunkhouse Under 3000 Pounds

Jay Flight SLX 154BH is one of the finest small bunkhouse travel trailers under 20 feet that any Jayco camper owner would recommend .

Suppose you are looking to leap from sleeping in a tent or your family is growing. In that case, the Jay Flight SLX 154BH is one of those affordable and small lightweight bunkhouse travel trailers worth considering for the excellent quality of Jayco RVs and their customer service.

Comparing the Jay Flight SLX 154BH with the Clipper Ultra-lite 15CBH we are in the presence of two floorplans of small bunkhouse travel trailers with bathrooms which are very similar layouts, different interior color finishes, and different optional upgrades of both campers.

Some of the advantages to highlight in this Jay Flight SLX 154BH are the size of the 29″x75″ bunk beds, bigger than small bunkhouses, and the mirror in the bathroom, which I believe gives us the perspective of constantly improving Jayco. Starting price at $24,309.

In this review of the 15 Small Bunkhouse Travel Trailers with bathrooms on the current market, the next floor plan is manufactured by KZ RV and is the Escape 231BH, a bunkhouse travel trailer under 5000 pounds that can accommodate up to 5 people.

If you look at the size of the bunk beds throughout this review, from the 3 best small bunkhouse travel trailers under 20 feet we mentioned at the beginning of this post to the ones we have here, you will see that some options feature larger bunk beds. The size of the bunk beds is something to note about the Escape 231BH. They have the most oversized bunks of this post, 48″x72″ double-sized double bunk beds.

It is not uncommon to find double-sized bunk beds, but it is essential to know how comfortable it will be for the occupants of the bunks. Children grow up, and you may be looking for floor plans that will last for many years without the need to reinvest in a new trailer to adapt it to the size of teenagers.

2 Small Bunkhouse Travel Trailers with Private Master Bedrooms

In this section, let’s review two amazing floor plans. Mallard M251BH by Heartland and Transcend Xplor 261BH by Grand Design . Both travel trailers have a private front primary bedroom and a fabulous layout different from each other and short enough, around 30 feet, to be on our list of the 15 Small Bunkhouse Travel Trailers on the Current Market.

One of the main differences we review between these 2-floor plans is in the private main bedroom at the front of both bunkhouse travel trailers. The Mallard M251BH features a King master bedroom, while the Transcend Xplor 261BH features a Queen master bedroom.

Let’s check out these two amazing small bunkhouse travel trailers.

Mallard M251BH: Small Travel Trailer with Bunkhouse and King Bedroom

Mallard M251BH is a Small Bunkhouse Travel Trailer with a private primary bedroom and a King-size bed. With only 29 feet 8 inches long and about 6000 pounds of dry weight, this bunkhouse can accommodate up to 5 or 6 people .

On the exterior of this camper, you will find a kitchen, an 18-ft powered awning with LED lighting, and a colossal pass-thru storage (up to 67.5 cu. ft. of storage space).

You will find the bunkhouse at the left of the entry door with two comfortable bunk beds and a bathroom.

The dry bathroom has a foot-flushable toilet, a handwash basin with vanity which offers extra storage space, a medicine cabinet with mirror, a shower with a tub, a shower sliding door, a skylight in the shower, a large linen closet, and power vents. The space dedicated to this bathroom is fabulous; it feels very comfortable and has plenty of space to store things and keep them tidy despite being a small travel trailer.

At the right of the entry door, you will find a walk-in-pantry . That is another atypical feature found in small bunkhouse travel trailers.

Across from there, you will find the kitchen area and entertainment center opposite the slide-out booth dinette.

This center part of the Mallard M251BH has a very different layout than the Transcend Xplor 261BH, and our readers may find it interesting to compare these small bunkhouse travel trailers’ floorplans as the weight and length specifications of both are very similar but significantly different in the layout of the galley and living room.

small bunkhouses with king bedroom

The kitchen has a 3-burner cooktop, a traditional oven, a comfortable deep bowl kitchen sink with a high-rise kitchen faucet, and a 6-cu. Ft. sizeable double-door refrigerator (gas/electric).

At the front of this camper is the main bedroom with a king-size bed, an under-bed storage area, nightstands, and room to move around the bed. The bedroom is separated from the rest of the trailer by solid sliding doors that give it complete privacy.

More standard features worth to mentioned are a gas/electric 6-gallon water heater, a forced air heated and enclosed underbelly, a 13,500 BTU air conditioner, and a 30,000 BTU furnace.

Let’s move to the next option. In the following paragraphs, find out which small bunkhouse travel trailers are your favorite.

Transcend Xplor 261BH: Small Travel Trailer with Bunkhouse and Queen Bedroom

Depending on the specific options you choose on the floorplan, this travel trailer can accommodate up to 8 people and has a private primary bedroom, bunk beds, luxury features, etc. The most remarkable of all is that it is only 30 feet long . For all this and the quality that its name is synonymous with, Transcend Xplor 261BH by Grand Design RV is one of the Recommended 15 Small Bunkhouse Travel Trailers for 2023 we review in this article. Starting price at $38,082.

As can be seen in the floor plan below, the exterior of this bunkhouse travel trailer features an outdoor kitchen, a 17-foot electrical awning, and ample storage compartments.

At the right of the entry door, you will find the private master queen bedroom. Solid sliding doors separate this bedroom from the rest of the travel trailer. The bedroom has nightstands and storage space under the bed and is prepared to mount a TV.

small travel trailers with bunkhouses 2023

In the center of this camper, you will find a long slide-out with a tri-fold sofa which can optionally be changed to theater seating. The kitchen appliances are located on the slide-out, giving the kitchen the entire corner area with a large surface area to move around and prepare gourmet meals.

Across from there is a booth dinette suitable for 4 people and a 32″ LED TV.

At the rear of this travel trailer is a bunkhouse with two large bunks and a full dry bathroom fully equipped.

While you walk through it, at no time does it give the impression that it is a short, small bunkhouse travel trailer of 30 feet. On the contrary, the bathroom is incredibly spacious, and the master bedroom is very comfortable. See it for yourself in the 360-tour below.

Bunk Rooms in Small Bunkhouse Travel Trailers

Bunkhouse travel trailers are a great way to share memorable moments with our friends and family. However, when kids are growing as parents, sometimes, we prefer to start to separate spaces in the camper.

Therefore, giving the children privacy (and at the same time giving ourselves privacy) can make living together more satisfying. For example, if the children have their own private room, they can stay up late playing and talking when the parents are already resting in the master bedroom.

This way, the travel trailer with a bunkhouse room will be separated into at least two bedrooms and the living room, which may or may not be integrated with the dinette and kitchen, depending on the floor plan and the length of the camper.

When we review floor plans of travel trailers with a bunkhouse room , they generally tend to be long and often heavy. Nevertheless, some Private Bunk Rooms in Small Bunkhouse Travel Trailers are worth mentioning because they are only 30 to less than 34 feet long and are pretty short for a private bunkhouse floor plan.

2-Bedrooms Bunkhouse Travel Trailers Under 34 Feet

Let’s see these 2-bedrooms small bunkhouse travel trailers under 34 feet.

  • Sundance Ultra-Lite 291QB
  • Cruise Lite 273QBXL

What do These 2-Bedrooms Bunkhouse Travel Trailers Have in Common? What we will highlight about these two options is that both floor plans are small luxury travel trailers with 2 private bedrooms . One of the bedrooms is a bunk room, completely private, separated by solid doors, and located at the rear of the camper, opposite the private master bedroom at the front.

Both travel trailers feature a long slide-out that contains the booth dinette suitable for a large family and seats in front of the entertainment center.

In addition, both floor plans feature a centrally located fully equipped kitchen, plenty of storage compartments to keep your belongings organized, an outside kitchen, and a full bathroom adjacent to the bunkhouse.

What Are the Differences Between These 2 Small Bunkroom Travel Trailers?

While both are lightweight travel trailers of 6000 pounds dry weight , the Sundance Ultra-Lite 291QB is slightly shorter (only 31 feet long) than the Cruise Lite 273QBXL (just under 34 feet long). Although throughout the post, we have reviewed travel trailers with bunkhouses only 20 feet long or even less, these campers are short and light for the type of floor plan they offer and outstanding options for those looking for small luxury bunkhouse travel trailers .

small bunkhouse travel trailers with 2 bedrooms

Another difference between the two bunkhouse travel trailers is the layout of each bunk room. The Sundance Ultra-Lite 291QB features a bunkhouse with 2 bunk beds and a small dinette inside the bunk room . I personally consider this floor plan one of the best on the market. The dinette can be converted into an extra sleeping space or can be used for board games while enjoying the entertainment center inside this second bedroom.

One difference we can highlight between the two master bedrooms offered by these small bunkhouse travel trailers is that the Cruise Lite 273QBXL features a front king master bedroom instead of the queen master bedroom provided by the Sundance Ultra-Lite 291QB.

The Best Bunkhouse Travel Trailers of 2024

travel trailer with queen bunks

Bunkhouse floorplans are unique, providing more sleeping space than other floorplans. Families significantly benefit from bunk beds. Whether for grandparents taking their grandchildren on a weekend camping trip or a family heading cross-country , bunkhouses offer designated sleeping spaces for children.

These floorplans are also easier to manage. Instead of converting a dinette or sofa every night, kids can sleep soundly in comfortable beds. No one has to remove cushions or reattach a pedestal table for the day’s events.

A bunkhouse travel trailer is also an excellent option for people who want a more affordable towable RV. Fifth wheels are generally more expensive than travel trailers. So, if you’re a camping family with a limited budget, there are bunkhouse travel trailers to suit your needs.

You’ll notice that trailer models have abbreviations like FK, RK, BH, RL, and others. These letters indicate the type of floorplan. For example, FK or RK means “front kitchen” or “rear kitchen.” RL means “rear living.” If you’re searching for a bunkhouse unit, look for the letters BH. Ten of the twelve models we’ve listed below use this abbreviation. So, not all bunkhouse travel trailers will have the BH, but most do.

What Are The Best 2024 Bunkhouse Travel Trailers?

Couple searching for the best bunkhouse travel trailers at an RV Show

We’ve chosen 12 of the best bunkhouse travel trailer floorplans, ideal for campers looking for additional sleeping space. Whether you need double over double bunks for more than two children or single bunks to provide private sleeping spaces for one or two kids, we’re sure you’ll find a model you love in the list below.

Remember that bunkhouse travel trailer floorplans need room for bunk beds, which means the living space is usually smaller. Unless you’re willing to go long and heavy, you’ll have to sacrifice space in the kitchen, dining, and living areas to provide the individual sleeping space of bunk beds.

Here’s our list of the 12 best bunkhouse travel trailers of 2024:

Keystone Springdale Classic 1800BH

Keystone hideout sport 175bh, forest river campsite reserve 26cj, east to west longitude 285bh, forest river wolf den 16ev, heartland pioneer bh261, jayco jay flight slx 260bh, coleman lantern lt 18bh, forest river cherokee grey wolf 26dbh, jayco jay flight slx 174bh, forest river alpha wolf 26dbh-l, heartland mallard tailwind t265bh.

Five other models that narrowly missed our top 12 include the following:

  • Keystone Springdale Classic 1760BH
  • Heartland Mallard M26
  • Forest River Campsite Reserve 23LM
  • Jayco Jay Flight SLX 184BSW
  • Coleman Lantern LT 274BH

To make them easier for you to compare, we’ve separated them by RV manufacturer:

Keystone Bunkhouse Travel Trailers

Keystone RV is a well-respected brand in the RV industry. Cole Davis founded Keystone in 1996. Since then, the company has worked its way to the top of the towable RV market. Today, there are over one million Keystone owners, making the brand the top manufacturer of towable RVs in North America. Currently, Keystone produces travel trailers, toy haulers, fifth wheels, and destination trailers.

Keystone Springdale Classic 1800BH

Travel Trailer Specs

  • Length: 20’6”
  • Dry Weight: 3,036 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,314 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 6

Why I Chose It: Compact, simple design

The Keystone Springdale Classic line offers single-axle travel trailers towable by light-duty vehicles. The 1800BH features a rear corner set of bunk beds next to a full bathroom. There’s a small kitchen equipped with a 3.3-cubic-foot 12-volt refrigerator, a microwave, a sink, and a two-burner gas range.

I love the simple design of this trailer. There are no slide-outs, which limits the interior space, but this also reduces potential repairs and overall wear-and-tear of these mechanisms. The kitchen and bathroom have everything you need to cook and clean without all the extras, making the Keystone Springdale 1800BH budget-friendly.

Across from the kitchen is a booth dinette with overhead storage for pots, flashlights, s’mores roasting sticks, and more. A queen bed sits in the front of the trailer. There’s more overhead storage for clothes and a closet to stow dirty laundry or hang jackets.

If you’re a family of three or four, this bunkhouse travel trailer floorplan is an excellent option since it gives each person a private sleeping area and a place for the family to gather at mealtime. You can also utilize the dinette for card games or rainy-day art activities.

  • Dry Weight: 3,020 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,330 pounds

The Keystone Hideout Sport 175BH also has the rear single over single bunk beds beside the bathroom. I love this layout – and the previous one – because of the kids’ easy access to the bathroom. The bathroom is just a foot away if there’s a nighttime emergency.

The refrigerator is half the size of the Classic unit’s, at 3.3 cubic feet, but the kitchen still has a microwave, two-burner cooktop, and sink. There’s also the booth dinette with overhead storage, the queen bed with shelf storage, and a closet. The Keystone Hideout Sport 175BH has a 10-foot powered awning, just like the Springdale Classic.

Like the Classic 1800BH, the Keystone Hideout Spot 175BH is an excellent option for a small family who just wants the basics. If you want an entry-level trailer with space to accommodate three or four people, this bunkhouse travel trailer may be perfect for your needs.

Forest River Bunkhouse Travel Trailers

Forest River is one of the giants of the RV empire. The company not only has its line of travel trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers, destination trailers, tent campers, and motorhomes, but it also owns other brands like Coachmen, Dynamax, Palomino, East to West, Prime Time, and Shasta.

If you’ve been to an RV show or walked around the campground, you’ve likely seen dozens of Forest River units. While narrowing down such a large selection is challenging, I’ve chosen four Forest River models to make the list of the top 12 best bunkhouse travel trailers in 2024.

  • Length: 32’9”
  • Dry Weight: 6,421 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,253 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 8

Why I Chose It: Ample storage

If you need a large travel trailer with a bunkhouse, the Forest River Campsite Reserve 26CJ is one of the most spacious options on my list. It features rear corner double over double bunk beds, so there’s room for each to sleep two kids. Beside the bunks is the full bathroom, again conveniently located near the kids for nighttime emergencies.

In the center of this bunkhouse travel trailer is a large slide-out with a booth dinette and sofa. The kitchen has an L-shaped countertop, providing plenty of room for meal prep. The front bedroom has a king bed, and the exterior features an outside TV mount and a small kitchen.

What I love most is the ample storage throughout the unit. There’s a cabinet next to the bunk beds for the kids’ clothing. There’s more storage underneath the bottom bunk for extra toilet paper or toys. Behind the entertainment center are hidden shelves for pantry storage, and there’s a separate pantry closet to help stow away pans and kitchen gadgets. In the front bedroom, there’s overhead storage and a closet. The Forest River Campsite Reserve 26CJ is full of storage options.

  • Length: 21’9”
  • Dry Weight: 2,995 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 2,498 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 5

Why I Chose It: Basic, no frills

The Forest River Wolf Den 16EV resembles the Keystone Hideout Sport and Springdale Classic. It’s a little over a foot longer but even more basic, as it boasts electric appliances only – hence the ‘EV’ in the name. This model has no stovetop, and you won’t have a propane furnace for extended-season camping. It does have a sink, a small refrigerator, and a microwave air fryer. The bathroom also doesn’t have a sink but only a shower and toilet.

There are rear corner single over single bunk beds and a queen bed up front. I like how the Wolf Den 16EV is a step up from a tent camper but doesn’t break the bank by offering too many unnecessary amenities. If you like simple camping, this model is ideal. There’s room for a family of three or four to sleep comfortably. The dinette is a bit small, but if you enjoy the outdoors, you’ll likely eat at the picnic table.

The Forest River Wolf Den 16EV is one of the lightest travel trailers on this list, perfect for campers without heavy-duty trucks. You can safely tow this bunkhouse trailer with an SUV, minivan, light-duty truck, and possibly a sedan. It’s a budget-friendly trailer for a family wanting to go outdoors for a weekend camping trip.

  • Length: 31’9”
  • Dry Weight: 5,795 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,930 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 9

Why I Chose It: Separate bedroom

I love that this Forest River Cherokee Grey Wolf has a front bedroom separated from the rest of the unit. This gives parents or grandparents privacy you don’t find in some of the smaller travel trailer bunkhouses. The second entry in the bedroom also allows adults to enjoy an evening outside after the kids have gone to bed without worrying about waking them once they re-enter the trailer.

There are also double over double bunks near the rear corner bathroom. The booth dinette and sofa allow plenty of lounge space for family games or movie nights. The outside kitchen also provides another space for meal prep and an easy way to enjoy the outdoors.

  • Length: 31’8”
  • Dry Weight: 6,116 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,598 pounds

Why I Chose It: Upgrades for more comfort

The Forest River Alpha Wolf 26DBH-L is similar to the Cherokee Grey Wolf. It has double over double bunks, a U-shaped dinette, a sofa, a separate front bedroom, and an outdoor kitchen. What I love most about this unit are the extras that make this bunkhouse travel trailer feel more like a home on wheels.

An electric fireplace underneath the entertainment center provides added warmth on cool fall evenings. A porcelain toilet in the bathroom is more durable than the standard plastic one. Finally, the 20-foot awning offers ample shade to create more exterior living space. Plus, this travel trailer features a fiberglass exterior instead of the corrugated aluminum.

East to West Bunkhouse Travel Trailers

Forest River, Inc. owns East to West. It’s one of the newest brands to hit the RV industry. Lisa Liegl Rees founded it in 2017, and the company currently manufactures travel trailers, fifth wheels, and Class C motorhomes. It has a smaller lineup than other brands, with only six travel trailer lines, four fifth wheel lines, and two Class C lines.

  • Length: 33’9”
  • Dry Weight: 6,917 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity:
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 10

Why I Chose It: Double entry, true living room

The Longitude is brand new in 2024. The 285BH features double over double bunks and a full bathroom in the rear. One major reason it makes the list of best bunkhouse travel trailers is the separate entrance to the bathroom. This provides easy access for kids to wash up after playing outside and a place to drop dirty shoes without dragging mud through the trailer.

I also love the layout of this travel trailer’s living room. The sofa and dinette are on opposing sides, with the entertainment center in the middle. This makes the space feel homey, ideal for a family who enjoys watching TV or movies on a Friday night.

This bunkhouse travel trailer also features a front bedroom separate from the rest of the unit, providing privacy for the adults. There’s also an additional wardrobe in the East to West Longitude 285BH that the other models on this list don’t have.

Heartland Bunkhouse Travel Trailers

Heartland has been in the RV industry for two decades. They manufacture models ranging from lightweight travel trailers to triple-axle toy haulers across 20 towable lines. The Landmark fifth wheel was its flagship trailer in 2004. You’ll find a wide range of price ranges to suit all types of budgets and various floorplans for all types of RVers.

  • Length: 31’6”
  • Dry Weight: 5,780 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,804 pounds

Why I Chose It: Spacious interior

The Heartland Pioneer BH261 is similar to a few other models on this list. It features the double over double bunks and a bathroom in the rear corner. It also has a second entrance directly into the bathroom, which I love. This Heartland Pioneer trailer also has a separate front bedroom.

The booth dinette and sofa are side by side in a large slide-out, and the kitchen is against the opposing wall. One thing I love about this layout that’s different from the other travel trailers with bunkhouses is that the kitchen isn’t an L-shape. The countertop doesn’t stick out into the living space, creating a very open, spacious area. The kids can play on the floor without hitting their heads on the countertop, and the dogs can roam around with plenty of space.

  • Length: 30’11”
  • Dry Weight: 5,640 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,954 pounds

Why I Chose It: Single entry, fiberglass exterior

This Heartland Mallard travel trailer is similar to the Pioneer bunkhouse. It also has double over double bunks next to the rear corner bathroom, a booth dinette and sofa in a large slide-out across from a full kitchen, and a separate front bedroom.

However, this unit doesn’t have a second entry in the bathroom. Some families will appreciate that because it’s not another door they have to lock and prevent younger children from escaping. The Mallard also features a fiberglass exterior, while the Pioneer is built with corrugated aluminum siding, giving this unit an upgraded feel.

Jayco Bunkhouse Travel Trailers

Jayco is one of the most respected and well-known brands in the RV industry. Lloyd Bontrager founded the company in 1968 and debuted his innovative lifter system for pop up campers. Today, with over 55 years of experience and over a million units sold, Jayco is one of the leaders in the industry. The brand produces every class of travel trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers, and motorhomes.

Jayco Jay Flight exterior

  • Length: 29’5”
  • Dry Weight: 4,580 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,420 pounds

Why I Chose It: Ample sleeping capacity

With the capability to sleep up to ten, the Jayco Jay Flight SLX 260BH is a lightweight bunkhouse travel trailer with the space a large family needs to enjoy a weekend camping trip. The double over double bunks measure a  spacious 48” by 76”, and the jackknife sofa provides an additional sleeping area. Plus, the booth dinette also converts if you need another place to sleep.

With no slides, the Jayco Jay Flight SLX 260BH may seem smaller than other units, but I love how Jayco designed this floorplan to create the most space possible. For example, there’s no sink in the bathroom. Instead, the kitchen sink is right outside the bathroom door. The countertop is small, but with the dinette table just across the room, parents can use it for an additional meal prep space if needed. And Jayco still provides a separate front bedroom for the adults.

  • Length: 21’8”
  • Dry Weight: 3,140 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,010 pounds

Why I Chose It: Compact, lightweight design

Another Jayco Jay Flight SLX model with bunks is the 174BH. What I love most about this travel trailer is the size. For a camping family who owns an SUV or a smaller vehicle, the Jayco Jay Flight SLX 174BH checks all the boxes. With a dry weight of under 3,200 pounds and a length of under 22 feet, it’s light enough and short enough to be towed by smaller vehicles.

While you won’t have some amenities in other bunkhouse travel trailers, you’ll have everything you need for a comfortable, enjoyable weekend camping trip. The single bunks are 29” by 75” and are directly next to a bathroom with a shower and toilet. The only sink is in the kitchen, which includes an 8-cubic-foot refrigerator, a microwave, and a cooktop.

There’s a booth dinette for mealtime and a queen bed for the adults. The overhead storage throughout the unit also provides ample room for kitchen gadgets, clothes, blankets, flashlights, and other camping gear.

Coleman Bunkhouse Travel Trailers

Coleman has been synonymous with camping and the outdoors for decades. Their lightweight bunkhouse travel trailers are some of the most affordable models on the market today, and the Keystone RV company actually manufactures them.

  • Length: 22’10”
  • Dry Weight: 3,587 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 7

Why I Chose It: Maximum space, no slides

This lightweight, single-axle travel trailer with bunkhouse has two 48” by 72” bunks in the rear corner next to a full bathroom, which features a walk-in shower. This unit also has a bathroom and kitchen sink, even with its smaller length. The booth dinette converts into another sleeping area and sits directly across from the kitchen, ideal for preparing meals.

I love the Murphy bed layout of this bunkhouse travel trailer because it allows for more family space during the day. While the similarly-sized Jayco Jay Flight SLX 174BH has a dinette and a set bedroom, the Coleman Lantern LT 18BH has both a dinette and sofa. You can lounge with the kids on the couch, but when it’s time to go to bed, the space quickly becomes a sleeping area for the adults. This Coleman travel trailer with bunkhouse maximizes the interior space, even without slide-outs.

FAQs About Bunkhouse Travel Trailers

Keystone Springdale trailer driving on dirt road

You may have a few more questions to help you find the right bunkhouse travel trailer for your family. Here are the most popular questions about this type of floorplan.

What is a bunkhouse floorplan in a travel trailer?

A travel trailer is a towable RV. Some people call it a “bumper pull” because it attaches to a hitch on the tow vehicle’s bumper. A travel trailer can have many of the same amenities as a fifth wheel or motorhome.

While some RVs have a separate room for the kids to sleep, a bunkhouse doesn’t have to be separated from the rest of the interior space. If bunk beds are in the floorplan, then it’s considered a travel trailer with a bunkhouse, whether those bunks are open to the living area or closed off with a separate door. Check out these additional travel trailer floorplans that offer ample space for a camping family.

What is the most popular travel trailer length?

Generally, a travel trailer with a bunkhouse will be longer than a travel trailer without bunks because it’s necessary to add length to incorporate this additional sleeping space. However, some manufacturers take away a feature to keep the length short. For example, a bunkhouse model may only have a dinette instead of a dinette and a sofa, so there’s room for the bunks in the same interior space.

Travel trailers can range from 12 feet to 40 feet long. They vary significantly in size and weight because there are many different floorplans. The average bunkhouse travel trailers are 20-30 feet long, but floorplans with a separate rear bunkhouse will be longer. It’s also important to know your local regulations regarding RV length so you follow the road restrictions in your home state.

What size is a double bunk in a travel trailer?

I mentioned that some of these best bunkhouse travel trailers feature double over double bunks. Usually, these bunks measure around 48” wide by 76” long. For older kids, these bunks may only sleep one. But for younger children, families can take advantage of these oversized bunks and sleep two per bed. I encourage you to learn more about RV mattresses , their sizes, how they differ from residential mattresses, and the different types we offer at Camping World.

Does Airstream make a bunkhouse?

Airstream is well-known as one of the top brands in the RV industry. The company has been making trailers since the 1930s. However, Airstream only manufactures one floorplan with a bunk bed option: the Flying Cloud 30FB Bunk . This 31-footer sleeps up to eight or nine people, depending on if you have the single over double bunk or the double over double bunk option.

Bunkhouse travel trailers are excellent units for camping families. Whether you’re a grandparent who takes out your grandchildren occasionally, a full-time traveling family who needs personal space for everyone, or a single parent who wants to make memories with your child on weekend getaways, there’s a floorplan to suit your camping style and needs.

This article claims the Springdale Classic has a 7.7 cu refrigerator and a 14 ft awning. In all the searching on Camping World inventory I have yet to find a unit with this. I only see 3.3 frig and 10 ft awning.

' src=

Hi Michael!

My apologies, as I just reached out to Keystone and they confirmed that 3.3-cubic feet is the standard fridge size for the 2024 model year, down from the 7.7 cubic foot standard in the 2023 model year. They also confirmed that the 10-foot awning is now standard on new models. Thanks for bringing this to our attention so we could update these specs in the article!
