I Travel 5 Times a Year—These Easy Outfits Have Never Once Failed Me

Lauren Adhav

As a semi-recent  Los Angeles transplant, I've made so many travel plans over the past two years to take advantage of my new West Coast life, whether it's an international flight to  Tokyo or multiday road trip to Sea Ranch, just north of San Francisco. And when I was living in New York City, a quick four-day trip across the Atlantic to  London or  Paris felt like a breeze. Then there are the long-haul flights I've done from L.A. to Monte Carlo and from Orlando to Hong Kong that take up to a full day of travel. And I've done all this with just a carry-on , mind you, so it's safe to say that I'm kind of a travel and packing expert. This is why I rounded up 20 of the best travel outfits if you're sitting on a plane, in a car, or walking 10 miles in a day to explore your vacation destination.

In theory, your vacations are filled with a never-ending supply of chic new outfits that are more than deserving of a few Instagrams, but the reality is that your  travel outfits need to be equal parts stylish  and  comfortable. Yes, achieving that balance is possible, and we have the stylish looks of the below fashion girls to prove that looking good and dressing functionally can coexist.

From roomy jeans and breezy dresses to versatile boots and bold sneakers that can withstand any mileage, scroll down for 20 travel outfits you'll want to copy for any upcoming out-of-office dates.

Coat + White Tee + Jeans

travel-outfits-225762-1705552171314-main

Ogling this Rimowa suitcase situation. But a shaggy jacket and unique jeans will dress up any white tee.

Shop the key pieces:

Ena Pelly + April Faux Fur Teddy Jacket

Jacket + Bold Sneakers + Comfy Pants

travel-outfits-225762-1705552164628-main

Comfortable pants and shoes are key whether you're on a plane or walking 10,000+ steps, but they don't have to feel drab. Add pops of color with your accessories.

Onitsuka Tiger + Mexico 66

Matching Sweatsuit + Sneakers

travel-outfits-225762-1705552177349-main

A matching sweatsuit is a must in any wardrobe. With a fashionable pair of sneakers, you can wear it both on and off the plane.

Reformation + Classic Crew Sweatshirt

Quarter-Zip Sweater + Long Coat

travel-outfits-225762-1705552184462-main

Bundle up in a monochrome 'fit like this cream quarter-zip and coordinating coat. Finish it off by adding bottoms with stretch and a trusty pair of shoes.

Zara + Soft Hooded Coat

Bomber Jacket + Jeans + Shoulder Bag

travel-outfits-225762-1705552190005-main

For a day in a new city where you're constantly moving, it's best to stick to the basics like a roomy shoulder bag, your go-to pair of jeans, and a zip-up jacket for transitional temps.

Lioness + Bomber Jacket

Leggings + Oversize Sweater

travel-outfits-225762-1705552194005-main

There's something about gray that makes any outfit look so much more comfortable. Throw on a cream sweater with your gray leggings for some contrast. Then put on your headphones so no one bothers you while you're waiting to board.

Nordstrom + Oversize Wool & Cashmere Sweater

Track Pants + Statement Coat + Flats

travel-outfits-225762-1705552198244-main

Track pants are a staple that can look dressy given the right styling. Take a cue from Helena and add the one statement coat you packed this trip with a pair of sporty bottoms.

BDG + Melanie Faux Fur Denim Jacket

Jumpsuit + Big Tote

travel-outfits-225762-1705552203040-main

A one-and-done kind of outfit is ideal for travel. When you have a jam-packed day that starts when the sun rises, you don't want to waste any time picking out what to wear. This is where a jumpsuit or boilersuit comes in handy.

Amo + Skip Jumpsuit

Midi Skirt + Crossbody Bag + Sweater

travel-outfits-225762-1705552207053-main

A crossbody you can keep close to you will ensure your belongings are secure on public transportation. An A-line skirt, a sweater, and statement kicks complete the look.

Cos + Ripple Crossbody

Flowy Top + Wide-Leg Jeans + Flats

travel-outfits-225762-1705552216115-main

I tend to turn to less-fitted silhouettes on vacay to keep things easy and effortless. A flowy top and wide-leg jeans are just the solution.

Levi's + Ribcage Wide Leg Jeans

Maxi Skirt + Knit Polo

travel-outfits-225762-1705552233832-main

For an ensemble that looks pulled together but actually takes five minutes to put on, a knit polo and maxi skirt are all you need. Add your crossbody or top-handle bag to really level things up.

Mango + Long Knitted Skirt

Breezy Pants + White Button-Down

travel-outfits-225762-1705552237648-main

Don't deny yourself roomy silhouettes! This is the kind of outfit that can take you off the plane and straight to lunch if you don't have time to decompress and change outfits at your hotel.

H&M + Oxford Shirt

Quilted Coat + Shoulder Bag + Chunky Sneakers

travel-outfits-225762-1705552245134-main

A coat that doubles as a blanket and/or a pillow on the plane and one you can wear on the daily is a great travel piece if you're heading somewhere chilly. Pack a pair of chunky dad sneakers and a shoulder bag, and you're ready for a day of exploring.

Everlane + The ReNew Long Liner

Jacket + Plaid Skirt + Sneakers

travel-outfits-225762-1705552248705-main

Going somewhere with pretty mild weather? Opt for plaid skirt and sneakers. You can add a bomber in this rich brown shade if the temperature fluctuates.

Mango + 100% Leather Bomber Jacket

Knit Sweater + Jeans + Bold Accessories

travel-outfits-225762-1705552252561-main

A cozy sweater, straight-leg jeans, and red accessories are an outfit formula you'll want to remember. And definitely make sure to stop by a café while you're out to fuel up before you hit the pavement again.

RE/DONE + Crewneck Cable Pullover

Wrap Coat + Comfortable Boots

travel-outfits-225762-1705552259889-main

Rainy weather won't get you down if you have a fab coat to stay dry in. A trench or raincoat is a must if it's a rainy forecast during your travels, but you can liven it up with bright footwear.

Good American + Chino Trench Coat

Coat + Sneakers + Baggy Jeans

travel-outfits-225762-1705552265647-main

Layer up with a scarf and beanie if your long coat isn't enough to keep you warm. Layering pieces that can go with several outfits are always great to pack, and as someone who lives in sunny Los Angeles, I now relish the trips where I can finally pack my versatile winter clothes.

New Balance x Ganni + 1906R

Track Jacket + Comfy Jeans

travel-outfits-225762-1705552269688-main

I've worn Adidas shorts on so many trips now, and I've found that sporty pieces are the best to pack. They are durable, made to withstand the elements, and come in handy when you start sweating from all those steps you're getting in. A track jacket is a great piece to wear over a T-shirt or tank. Simply add some fun jeans and a colorful bag, and you'll feel like a street style star wherever you are.

Lacoste + Logo Monogram Stripe Track Jacket

White Blouse + Black Maxi + Sneakers

travel-outfits-225762-1705552433277-main

A sheer white top is a godsend for those extremely hot travel days. Also, I've worn this black cotton maxi skirt on countless trips. It's one of the best travel items I own thanks to the breezy fit and elastic waist.

Doen + The Jane Blouse

Cutout Dress + Sandals + Net Bag

travel-outfits-225762-1705552407610-main

If it's more of a beach vacation, you definitely want to travel with some comfortable sandals and a larger tote that can fit all your beach-day belongings. I find that these net bags fold very flat in a suitcase, but they can fit a seemingly endless amount.

SIR. + Lupita Shaped Midi Dress

After finally getting an internship at Town & Country in 2015, she moved to New York City and continued to get her footing in the industry with stints at Cosmopolitan , W magazine, Harper's Bazaar , and Moda Operandi. In 2017, she returned to Cosmo full time, starting off as the beauty and fashion editorial assistant and working her way to fashion editor. She contributed to both the website and print issues, pitching new ideas, forecasting trends, covering red carpet events, and informing the overall coverage and brand voice. After five years in NYC, she moved to the West Coast for the sunshine and the change of pace. As a freelance fashion editor, she still contributes to Cosmo and now Who What Wear. She's always trying to get ahead of the next big trend before it goes mainstream and loves discovering fashion brands with a unique point of view (Chopova Lowena, Sandy Liang, and Bode being some of her current favorites). Travel Outfits: How to Look Chic When You’re Flying

travel outfits

Listen—I’m all about rocking a cute travel outfit when I’m heading out of town…but I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing heels to the airport.

To be honest, I don’t even like wearing jeans on a plane (although I’ll occasionally make an exception if they’re REALLY comfortable jeans , or if my flight is under three hours.)

Usually you’ll find me rocking a head-to-toe set of my favorite affordable cashmere during the winter, and a lightweight loungewear set during the summer.

I often see pictures of bloggers at the airport posing next to their cute pink luggage wearing like…wedges and a mini-dress. HARD PASS. How is that even comfortable? When you’re en route to the airport (and your final destination) it’s all about feeling comfortable.

For this reason, I decided to put together a little guide to cute travel outfits…featuring things that you’ll actually want to travel in , whether you’re heading out for a winter getaway or a girls trip .

Because believe it or not, it’s possible to rock comfy loungewear, leggings, or a jumpsuit and still look SUPER chic, as long as you style them properly (especially my favorite faux leather leggings .)

Below are a handful of great travel outfits I found while trolling IG—and the exact things you can buy to replicate them.

(Also: if you’re also on the hunt for stylish carry-on luggage or if you need some good go-to travel toiletries…I got you covered.)

Chic Travel Outfits

Travel Outfits

Here, I’m sharing a handful of my go-to travel outfit pieces. These are all items that I think you should have in your closet regardless of how often you go on a getaway, but they just so happen to be particularly comfy choices when going on a plane.

These picks will of course depend on how long your flight is and where you’re headed, but overall, I think they’re practical for travel days.

The only caveat here is that I know a jumpsuit isn’t exactly ideal if you’re going on a long-haul flight—however—I personally don’t mind wearing them on planes because they’re so comfy and not really that difficult to slip in and out of when you need a bathroom break.

If jumpsuits aren’t your jam, there are plenty of other ideas in this post that should work for you, like a cute matching sweatsuit or leggings and a leather jacket. Without further ado, here are the staples I’d recommend having on hand for travel days.

PRAYRNA SINHA

This post gave me a more clear idea of what I will wear when travelling and I especially loved the part where you mentioned the all black and all white monochromatic looks .

' src=

I do not think I would wear white on a plane. No to the belly sticking out as well. I do like the stretchy pants and sneakers.

' src=

Why would anyone wear a jumpsuit on a plane? The toilets are used by hundreds of people, now you want to pull down the top part of your clothes and have it dangling somewhere near the toilet, while you’re sitting on a toilet that exposes the part that gets wee on when the seat is up? Eeu that’s all kind of germ wrong!! But I do love the little 3/4 joggers! Def looking for some of those for my next long haul (when this pandemic is over!)

10 Beach Vacation Outfits for Your Next Getaway

If you’re in search of beach vacation outfits, I have a few favorite looks I’m sharing today! We recently got back from an incredible getaway to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and I’m rounding up what I wore throughout the week.

Packing for a vacation can get overwhelming given that you’re often switching between a swim, casual, and evening look all in the course of a single day. It’s taken me a few years and many trips, but I finally have it down and can quickly mix and match pieces without overpacking.

If you’re looking for outfit inspiration for your next trip, see below for 10 beach vacation outfit ideas along with a few notes on how to pack.

Beach Vacation Outfits

What to wear to the beach and pool.

Whether you’re planning to lay poolside or hit the beach, I’ve got you covered! I’m 5’9”, so I tend to wear bikinis as long torso one piece swimsuits can be challenging to find, but I have had luck with Aerie, Hunza G (stretchy material), and Summersalt. I loved all the swimwear I took on our trip, but the Vix bikini top and bikini bottoms were my favorites by a long shot, and I received so many compliments on this floral green sarong. For your next beach getaway, I highly recommend you choose Yamba accommodation that suits your preferences for a delightful stay.

What to Wear to Dinner

Getting showered off and dressed up for dinner after a long day in the sun is the best feeling in the world! There are brands that specialize in resort wear and beach fashion, like Hemant and Nandita and Maygel Coronel, which can be fun to invest in as you’ll reach for those beach dresses over and over when you travel. But your evening wear doesn’t have to be resort specific. A romantic maxi dress or anything a little boho, breezy, or floral print is perfect, and you can never go wrong with a white dress.

What to Wear for Brunch, Shopping, and Exploring Town

On our vacation to Mexico we didn’t venture off of the resort property much, but most vacations we spend 1-2 afternoons in town for brunch, shopping, lunch, or a casual activity. For that, I love a simple day beach dress, denim shorts and a blouse, or colorful shorts and a tank top.

Vacation Outfit Planning & Packing

Whenever I’m deciding what to wear for a getaway, it helps me to think in three outfit categories: beachwear, day, and evening.

My packing list tends to consist of 1-2 day looks, 2-3 swim & beach cover-up combinations, and one evening outfit for each night we’re there (I recommend looking up the dress code of anywhere you have your eye on for dinner prior to deciding your nighttime looks).

I tend to outfit repeat my swimwear and day looks to make things easy on myself. But getting showered off and dressed up after a long day on the beach is one of my favorite things, so I like to have something unique to look forward to wearing each night! This usually means I’m packing 2-3 dresses, 1 dressy jumpsuit or romper, and a dressy long sleeve top and tailored shorts.

For my travel outfits , I wear something simple like a jumpsuit or joggers and a workout top.

In terms of shoes , I pack one heel that goes with all my dinner outfits, a flip flop, 1-2 pairs of comfortable sandals or espadrilles for walking, and exercise shoes.

For accessories , I take a beach bag, a day tote or straw bag, an evening clutch, a sun hat, black and brown sunglasses, and simple jewelry I can wear with everything.

You can read all about the sunscreen and skin care essentials I pack for summer vacations in this post !

Our editors handpick the products that we feature. We may earn commission from the links on this page.

When it comes to travel, we know you need to find the perfect balance between comfort and style. After all, it’s great to look put together while hopping on a flight, but not at the cost of your comfort—especially on long-haul trips. Rest assured, we've curated a list of wardrobe essentials to achieve flawless travel and airport outfits, whether you are exploring a new destination for business or pleasure.

When it comes to the best travel outfits for women, accessories play a critical role in keeping you comfy and organized. All you have to do is remember a comfortable pair of shoes , compression socks to keep things moving, an eye mask that's an upgrade from the one the airline provides, and a chic shawl that doubles as a blanket. And of course, no travel outfit would be complete without a fashionable (and functional!) carry-on bag on your arm or atop your luggage . This bag should house all of your essentials and still level up your airport outfit. Keep reading for some of the best travel and airport outfit ideas your next trip.

Missky Long-Sleeved Oversize Pant Set

Long-Sleeved Oversize Pant Set

You might look like you're already on vacation if you show up to the airport in this neutral pants and button-down set. Available in two bright and two neutral colors, and sizes small to 2XL.

Spanx AirEssentials Wide-Leg Pants

AirEssentials Wide-Leg Pants

Sometimes nothing less than sweats will do, and here is where Spanx really excels. Oprah picked these for her 2022 Favorite Things , saying, “You might know Spanx for its shapewear, but it also does fantastic cozy clothes. When I tell you this set feels light as air, I’m not kidding. It’s my new leisure suit. The perfectly loose-and-lightweight fabric is like buttah!”

Vuori Elevation Trouser in Midnight Heather

Elevation Trouser in Midnight Heather

Vuori is celebrated for its super-cozy pieces. The best thing about these pants? They look put together while the stretch-knit fabric is as comfy as your favorite Vuori loungers. The high-rise waist and loose fit of the leg give you an effortlessly stylish silhouette.

Dr. Scholl's Time Off Platform Sneakers

Time Off Platform Sneakers

Celebrated for their consciously comfortable footwear, these sneakers from Dr. Scholl's are tricked out with tons of features for all-day comfort. Inside, anatomical cushioning and arch support keep you covered while a lightweight, anti-slip platform sole protects on the outside. This minimalist sneaker looks just as good with a matching suit as it does a low-key sweat set.

J. Crew Cashmere-Wool Travel Wrap

Cashmere-Wool Travel Wrap

Let's be honest, you can't always count on the airline's blankets to keep you warm, and some even leave annoying fluff behind. Stay warm and stylish with your own wearable blanket by way of this travel necessity from J. Crew that comes in eight different colors.

Girlfriend Collective Compressive Pocket Legging

Compressive Pocket Legging

Leggings are a perfect choice for traveling wear. And these have Oprah's seal of approval, as they were picked for Oprah's 2022 Favorite Things list. Eco-friendly and size-inclusive (the range goes through 6XL), these compression leggings are available in a plethora of hues. Plus, they feature double-side seaming and pockets.

Athleta Everlasting Button-Down Top

Everlasting Button-Down Top

A classic button-down is a travel essential that elevates any in-transit look. Athleta's Everlasting button-down has all the details you need: a lightweight, odor-control stretch fabric and longer length for coverage. Luckily, you can cover all your neutral bases with navy, black, and white. Plus, it comes in an extended range of sizes from XXS to 3X.

Chico's Travelers No Tummy Pants

Spanx Women's AirEssentials 1/2 Zip Sweater

Women's AirEssentials 1/2 Zip Sweater

Sometimes nothing less than sweats will do, and here is where Spanx really excels. Oprah picked this top for her 2023 Favorite Things , saying, “Wow. Wow. Wow. May I tell you I got this set last year? I wore it in a photo shoot for O Quarterly and never looked back...” Why not pair it with the coordinating wide-leg pants for a full sweatsuit?

Hoka Transport GTX Sneakers

Transport GTX Sneakers

Hoka's sneakers are cult Oprah Daily office favorites and podiatrist-approved . Not only do they look good with just about everything, but the Transport GTX also offer quick-toggle lacing for an easy on-off, as well as a full-length EVA midsole for the highest level of cushioning and arch support.

Dr. Motion Compression Socks with Enhanced Cushioning (3 Pack)

Compression Socks with Enhanced Cushioning (3 Pack)

Compression socks are always a good ideal for traveling. We recommend these styles from Dr. Motion that offer graduated compression of 8 to 15 mmHg while providing arch support. Unlike other socks that can feel scratchy or clammy, these are soft, moisture-wicking, and subtly cushioned.

Everlane Organic Cotton Honeycomb Cardigan

Organic Cotton Honeycomb Cardigan

This gorgeous honeycomb cotton cardigan is part of the latest iteration of Everlane Editions: The Art of Spring Layering. Crafted from responsibly sourced and lower-impact materials, this 100 percent organic cotton knit is ideal for layering before, during, and after your flight.

32Âș DEGREES Lightweight Recycled Poly-Fill Shirt Jacket

Lightweight Recycled Poly-Fill Shirt Jacket

Sometimes a full on coat is not needed for travel, but you can never be quite sure of the weather. That's why a a little packable shacket—part shirt, part jacket—comes in. In black, olive green, or dark blue, the jacket will be your go-to for travel. Keep in mind, it runs slightly big in order to allow for comfortable layering of hoodies or sweaters underneath. There's a reason why Oprah tapped it on her Favorite Things list .

JW PEI Aylin Canvas Cellphone Crossbody Bag

Aylin Canvas Cellphone Crossbody Bag

Making sure you have all your essentials when going through airport security can be tough, but with this crossbody, you'll have your phone and cards right at hand.

Original 100 Percent Cashmere Sweater

Warm, soft, and chic—few things are as reliable as a plain cashmere sweater. At under $100, Naadam's perfect crewneck comes in core and limited-edition hues. Pro tip: Order a size or two larger than your usual for an ultra-cozy fit. And what's more, the sweater is machine-washable (yes, you read that right).

Birdies' classic loafer will elevate any airport look. They're crafted with tumbled Nappa leather, a no-slip rubbber sole, and the brand's signature seven-layer footbed for ultra-cushy support. Plus, the Vesper comes in sizes 5 to 12, and a range of colors like silver leather and cappucino with raffia accents.

Original Puffer Hug Scarf

If you're traveling for business to a location that you're not thrilled about, chances are you are in need of a hug. Don't worry, this puffer hug scarf doubles as a warm wrap to keep you cozy and a hug to make you feel loved. It's fleece-lined with deep pockets so you can also store your ID and credit card without any issues.

Asutra Silk Eye Mask & Pillow

Silk Eye Mask & Pillow

Oprah chose this eye mask for her 2023 Favorite Things list. "Sleeping with a mask is life-changing—I cannot tell you how much the quality of my sleep has improved," she said. "This weighted 100 percent silk one stays down and doesn’t let even a pinch of light in.” Co-owned by superstar Venus Williams, Asustra produces eye pillows that are filled with lavender and flax. Whether you want to meditate or snooze during your flight, this adjustable mask will definitely relax you.

K. Carroll Accessories Taylor Tote Red

Taylor Tote Red

These vegan suede totes are great for hauling all your in-flight essentials, with plenty of room. There are a range of colors to choose from. "Not too big or too small, this vegan suede tote is just the right size for your on-the-go loved one in need of a stylish solution," Oprah said when highlighting the Taylor tote on her 2022 Favorite Things list.

Fall happens to be one of my favorite times of year to plan trips and vacations. Coincidentally, also one of my favorite seasons to dress for. (So, hello chic travel outfits!)

You have the hustle of summer vacation behind you,  you’ve got more time to spare, not to mention–the weather is cooler in warmer climates and much better for walking around and exploring all day! (But don’t worry, if you’re heading somewhere with warm weather, I’ve got you covered too–I cover all seasons and weather in this post!)

Maybe you’re prepping for a European adventure and need some inspo for the long flight ahead of you. (Also, you must read my Europe packing list !) Perhaps you’re headed to Cabo and need to know how to look stylish on vacation without sweating through everything you packed.

Maybe you’re planning a business trip and you need some casual but polished outfit ideas you can mix and match? (A work capsule wardrobe of sorts ?)

Hopefully you’ll come away with a few ideas you can incorporate into your own personal style, no matter what your trip calls for.

Keep reading for my best tips for putting together chic travel outfits, my recommendations for the best travel clothes, plus over 25 options of cute travel outfits to copy! (Make sure to bookmark this page for your next trip!)

First, let’s get into my tips!

How to look stylish on vacation:

My 7 tips for putting together chic travel outfits in 2023-2024.

flat shoes for travel

#1: For the most chic travel outfits, plan outfits around your shoes

The easiest place to start when you’re building stylish outfits for a vacation or a trip is  shoes . This is true especially in winter, when you’re packing and coordinating heavy shoes like boots, which IMO also happen to be the hardest kinds of shoes to style because you tend to need different pants for different boots and vice versa. This is easier in the summer months because you can easily pack 4-5 pairs of sandals or ballet flats and take up little to no room in a suitcase. The overarching rule of thumb here is that neutral colors are your friend, as it’s easier to mix and match to create the perfect outfit with very little fuss.

Here’s how I’d typically approach packing shoes by season…

One pair of cute white sneakers or even slip-on sneakers (worn on plane–maximum comfort is key here), 1-2 pair of flat sandals (usually in a nude color, secondary color would likely be black, depending on what other clothes I’m packing), maybe one pair of ballet flats, which are a great option if you’re packing for moderate temps and an occasion where you want to look polished, but don’t want to wear heels.

One pair of cute white sneakers (worn on plane), one pair flat or low-heel booties, one pair of ballet flats, one pair of loafers

One pair cute white sneakers, two pairs booties (neutral and black)–at least one of these pairs should be water resistant or waterproof. One pair of flats or loafers.

Winter: (Assuming very cold weather/snow/slush/rain)

Two pairs booties–at least one of these pairs should be water resistant or waterproof. I typically pack the least amount of shoes in winter as they take up the most room AND I also have to account for super bulky layers in a suitcase–I don’t have space for multiple shoes AND multiple sweaters, jackets, etc.

#2: One piece outfits are your best friend (dresses, jumpsuits)

I LOVE one-piece outfits, and I think this applies particularly in the summer months, when all you really need to create a great outfit is a dress or a jumpsuit. Summer months are PRIME for this–if I’m heading to a tropical vacation, I am packing mostly dresses made of breathable fabrics and maybe a jumpsuit or two! Since you aren’t “mixing and matching” anything (because, it’s one piece) go wild–prints (florals! stripes!) fun cut-outs–whatever!

The only rule for these items is that they MUST be able to be dressed up and down, and worn with multiple types of shoes and accessories. (In my case, this usually means something can be worn with sneakers for a casual look to walk around in all day with a pair of small subtle hoops and maybe a scarf, and then swapped for a dressier shoe–a pair of sandals for example–and a pair of statement earrings, for going out to dinner/drinks.)

I think this is harder to do in cold weather, but it can absolutely still be done! For example, I wore an olive utility jumpsuit multiple times for different occasions last year in Ireland where it was wet and chilly. It looked cute with both a denim jacket and a leather jacket layered over the top. A “one and done” outfit makes packing considerably easier, and also allows you to pack a  lot  less stuff!

#3: Consider a color scheme and lean into neutral colors

Now, this only applies to things that need to be mixed and matched. I don’t count “one piece outfits” as needing to be part of a color scheme, because if you’re packing only neutral accessories and you have a one-piece outfit, it doesn’t really matter what color it is, you know? But if you’re packing mostly tops and bottoms, it will be  much  easier to put stylish outfits together if you have a color scheme in mind when packing!

Now, this doesn’t necessarily HAVE to mean you should only pack neutral colors, but I find that it’s often easier to gravitate toward neutrals for my main pieces and incorporate pops of color with accessories, lipstick, and shoes. I’m always itching for more color in the spring and summer, whereas for fall and winter, I usually feel most chic and put together in minimalist color schemes, like creams, camels and black, and using patterns and accessories to make my outfits most visually interesting!

Want to strike a balance somewhere in the middle? Consider neutrals along with a more muted version of a color–for example, a mustard, deep burgundy, or burnt orange for fall, which pairs easily with blacks and browns, or a muted dusty pink for dusty blue for spring, which pairs easily with the same neutrals–white, black, brown.

#4: Lean into prints (especially stripes!)

I have never met a stripe I didn’t love, and it’s rare that I take a trip or vacation without at least a couple of striped items in my suitcase. (This is especially true in the fall and winter months, when I’m dressing in layers!) Why? Because stripes just make everything look a little more pulled together, visually interesting, and stylish! They’re not trendy, so they’re always in style, and they look a lot more intentional than just a plain old t-shirt.

A pattern of any kind is a great way to make any outfit more fashionable, so after considering your color scheme, start thinking of options that fit within that color scheme that  also  have a bit of pattern! The easiest way I find to accomplish this is with t-shirts, sweaters, and scarves.

What about mixing prints? I give that a hard YES. Just make sure when you’re mixing prints to vary the scale and choose coordinating/complimentary colors. One print should be larger and bolder and one print should be smaller and more subtle. (You can see examples above where I’m wearing patterned hair scarves with my striped tops!) Even a floral print can be a surprisingly versatile option!

#5: Always pack a scarf or two

I’m guessing you’ve gathered by now that I wear a LOT of scarves on vacation. In fact, it’s my #1 style hack. If you take nothing away from this post, I hope this is what you remember! Truly, the easiest way to spice up any outfit–day or night–is with a scarf. Tie one in your hair to keep it out of your face on a hot day, disguise unwashed hair (bc who has time to wash and style on vacation?!) or just as a way to make your outfit more interesting. For cooler weather, I love a cute bandana or neck scarf!

Leather jacket and jeans outfit

#6: When in doubt, a great lipstick makes everything stylish:

Exhibit A: Candid photo taken in Dublin where I hadn’t washed my (air dried) hair in a couple of days, and I’m wearing a very simple outfit of a black tee, black Moto jacket, and jeans–yet somehow, the red lipstick makes it all look intentional. 😂 I swear lipstick can take the most boring, even disheveled comfortable travel look and make it “perfectly undone.” Some of my favorite lipsticks are  Ilia  (they have amazing shades but if you want something a little more subtle–Cinnabar is an amazing brick red!) and  Merit’s lipsticks  that make your lips pop without being too much to wear during the day!

#7: Don’t forget about coordinating outer layers + accessories!

Just like you want to ensure all your tops and bottoms can be mixed and matched, ensure that your outer layers can also be worn with everything you’re packing!

This doesn’t mean you can’t wear a statement color–for example, the coat I wore in Lisbon my first time visiting was a mustardy yellow camel color–it added so much punch to my outfits (and photos!) but still coordinated with everything else I had in my suitcase.

Same with my favorite dusty blue coat–it’s neutral enough to where it doesn’t clash with anything, and it adds a lot of personality (and of course, extra warmth) to all my outfits! If you want to bring a bright red crossbody purse–go for it, as long as you can wear it with everything else in your wardrobe!

Like I said, accessories are the easiest ways to add color into your outfits.

Stripes are always a good idea when it comes to chic travel outfits! Here I paired them with a white mini skirt (could also do shorts, white shorts or denim!) and of course, the hair scarf. Never not wearing a hair scarf on a Europe trip (especially when it’s hot!)

Bright and colorful romper:

On my recent Napa trip I brought almost exclusively one-piece outfits. (Dresses and rompers!) I loved this one that I rented from Rent the Runway–I loved it so much I bought it! I barely needed any accessories–the colorful pattern did the talking! Renting is always a great option to ensure you are well-stocked with chic travel outfits without risk of breaking the bank!

A swing dress in breathable fabrics and red ballet flats:

An easy way to incorporate color into your travel wardrobe is with your accessories–including shoes! I love a little red ballet flat. Surprisingly, red goes with a lot of other colors–it’s easy to pair with other things in your wardrobe. You can read my Rothys review here!

The Nap Dress: one of the most versatile pieces you’ll pack for warm weather

Nap Dress travel outfit

Hill House Ellie Nap Dress  (this color/pattern is a few years old but they have so many cute colorways!)

The Hill House nap dress: my summer wardrobe work horse. I own it in 3 colors. I wore it day and night in August in Lisbon where it was sweltering! Their summery dresses are made of lightweight fabrics, and in my opinion, a great piece to always have in your suitcase for warm climates.

The perfect versatile blouse for a classic look:

Faherty Willa blouse and jeans

Chic casual basics in Napa (from my first trip in February a couple years ago!) This top has become one of my bestsellers for good reason–it just goes with everything! Here I’m styling it with jeans but would also look cute with wide-leg pants, trousers, and I’ve worn it in the summer with shorts!

A versatile cardigan:

Black Turtleneck // Denim // Hair Scarf

Dinner in Lisbon: One of my favorite fall outfits–a black turtleneck, jeans, black boots, and a hair scarf!

the Sezane Gaspard cardigan:

Silk Scarf // Button Up Cardigan // Denim // White Court Sneakers

Okay, you get it, right? Neck scarves are cute. 😂 Another tip: I love bringing a cardigan along in my suitcase because it’s both a first layer (buttoned up the front) and a second layer (unbuttoned, over a tee or blouse!) The Sezane Gaspard cardigan that I’m wearing here is major mainstay in my fall/winter wardrobe and I own it in two colors!

A statement coat:

Here’s another example of a neutral but statement coat. I love this coat (got it from Mango last year) and it goes with so many things. I call this a “dusty seafoam” color and I think it makes the most basic outfits so cute. Also, another scarf, but a winter version. (Also Sezane! Don’t sleep on their accessories!)

Warm and cozy layers:

Chic travel outfits for winter: Quebec City–how to look stylish on vacation when its freezing

Weatherproof Boots // Weatherproof Parka // Layers: Turtleneck !

From my trip to Quebec City with Neal a few years back. Dressing for the coldest weather (we’re talking negative wind chill!) can be the most challenging of all, but I have one tip: black, black, and black. It’s the most guaranteed way to still feel chic even if you have to wear 5 layers. Also: coordinating your hats, gloves, and boots. Make sure you’re factoring your accessories into your outfits–it helps avoid that “little kid on the playground” look. I brought one black beanie and one white/neutral beanie and I always felt warm and coordinated. And my warmest black parka. (Getting a slimmer design also helps!)

Best airport/travel outfits for long travel days and long-haul flights:

I couldn’t publish this post without touching on chic travel outfits for day-of travel. If you’ve got a long journey ahead of you, the last thing you want to wear is a pair of–gasp– jeans! The perfect travel outfit can make those long haul flights go a lot quicker, so it’s worth a bit of planning ahead.

Where to begin? Coordinating loungewear makes some of the best travel outfits. Another great combo? Comfy black leggings and a cute tee that you’ll also get a lot of wear out of during your trip!

If it’s summer, a comfortable dress can actually make a great travel outfit too (I wear the famed Amazon mumu on the plane a lot) and a bonus: a dress is likely something you’ll wear over and over during your travels to warmer climates.

Another tip: consider easy on/off shoes for airport security (or plan ahead and wear socks so you aren’t barefoot on the airport floor!)

This affordable Amazon sweatshirt and matching pair of sweatpants are two of my bestsellers. Wear them together or separately to make multiple comfy airport outfits

Quince cashmere cardigan (reviewed here!) Lululemon leggings (although for a long flight I’d choose something less supportive, like their Align leggings or my fave budget-dupes, the Aerie offline leggings ), Bombas socks , Kizik Lima sneakers , Lululemon city adventurer fanny pack , Amazon baseball cap

Delsey Paris Chatalet suitcase

An oldie but goodie–this is still a go-to outfit formula for me: striped tee ( this is my fave ), loose cardigan (I love Quince’s cardigans for staple sweaters–great quality for the price!), and comfy black leggings . I also love my Delsey Paris Chatalet suitcases (reviewed here ) if you’re looking for a suitcase recommendation!

WHEW, you made it to the bottom! I hope you’re feeling much more prepared for your trip. Now you know how to look stylish on vacation no matter where you’re going! Safe travels and have fun!

Travel + Leisure / Kristin Kempa

You may have a designated travel sweatshirt or a favorite pair of shoes to wear on flights — but what about other essentials, like pants, jackets, T-shirts, dresses, and pajamas? If you prioritize comfort in transit, it’s time to revamp your travel wardrobe to ensure every trip is a cozy one. Lucky for you, we editors at Travel + Leisure rounded up a few of our favorite comfy clothing items we always wear on the road and in the sky.

From impossibly soft lounge sets to what we believe are the world’s comfiest jeans, we've combed our closets for those few items we tend to wear every time we travel. Our list includes favorites from Lululemon, Patagonia, Lilly Pulitzer, and more, so whether you prefer to travel in loose-fitting loungewear or more compressive clothing, you’re sure to find something you love below.

lululemon Define Jacket Luon

We’ve all been on a flight that’s chilly enough for some extra layers but too warm for a heavy coat or sweatshirt. That’s why we always pack this comfy, light jacket in our carry-on. Not only is it incredibly sleek and stylish thanks to its slim fit, but it’s also super soft, stretchy, breathable, and easy to move in. The sleeves even feature thumbholes and “cuffins” (cuffs that can be folded over your hands) for added warmth. Snag the Define Jacket Luon in eight sizes and five shades including espresso and bone.

“This jacket is essentially my plane uniform — I wear it every single time I fly,” editor Sophie Mendel said. “It's comfy but keeps me looking put-together, plus I can wear it with leggings and sneakers for a super functional, comfortable, and cute transit 'fit. It also has two zippered pockets which are extra-convenient during travel.”

Calia Women's Inspire High Rise 7/8 Legging

Dick's Sporting Goods

Flying in compression leggings is wise, especially for long-haul flights, but some compression leggings tend to squeeze you uncomfortably. That’s never a problem with Calia’s Inspire High Rise 7/8 leggings, though. Boasting subtle compression that molds to your body, the leggings are sure to remain comfy and breathable without sliding down or sagging. They even have unique seam lines that strategically accentuate your curves — though, admittedly,  this is more noticeable in some colors than others. To top it off, we love the way they feel to the touch.

“These Calia leggings are without a doubt the softest pair I own,” associate editor Hillary Maglin said. “I've worn them for everything from yoga classes to grocery runs to a recent 12-hour travel day, and I've remained comfy through it all. The leggings are thick without hindering mobility, and they're compressive without digging into my stomach (something I can't stand). It also doesn't hurt that they have subtle side pockets large enough for my phone. Though I have plenty of black leggings in my wardrobe, I find myself reaching for these ones again and again.”

Commes Des Garçons Play x Converse Chuck Taylor Hidden Heart Low Top Sneakers

It's true: Converse never goes out of style. Conveniently, the sleek sneakers tend to last forever, too, so consider copping a pair of the Converse x Comme des Garçons Play Chuck 70s. They feature the typical silhouette of the brand’s low tops, plus they come in white or black. No matter which color you choose, this particular style also boasts the Comme des Garçons red heart and eyes logo on the side. You can snag these in women’s sizes 5 to 15 and men’s sizes 3 to 13.

“This is my go-to travel shoe because it's comfortable but also dressy enough that I can wear it throughout my trip when I want an elevated sneaker look,” travel editor Susmita Baral said.

Paka Men's Apu Lightweight Puffer

One of our most important tips for traveling in comfort? Dress to avoid freezing or overheating. With this lightweight men’s puffer from Paka, regulating your body temperature is easy. It’s so slim that it looks more like a hoodie than a puffer, but its hidden layers and insulation efficiently lock in warmth. Even if you choose not to wear it in transit, you can effortlessly pack it down into a bag or suitcase.

“This puffer jacket has the warmth of a parka but not the bulkiness, which makes it the perfect outerwear to bring while traveling,” writer Anna Popp said. “It can fit in a suitcase easily and it's also perfectly cozy and warm to wear on an airplane if you need to save extra space. I love that it looks nice while going out in the city on a snowy day, but that it’s also designed to be worn for sportier occasions like skiing, hiking, climbing, or running.”

J.McLaughlin Lowden Jeans

J.McLaughlin

We know, we know — traveling in jeans might as well be a crime. We thought so, too, until we got our hands on J.McLaughlin’s Lowden jeans. The stretchy cotton denim feels more like a soft pair of leggings, and even after long-haul flights, we never felt restricted or uncomfortable in them. The jeans feature a wide-leg slim fit for added mobility and a high waist for comfort and confidence on and off the plane.

“I never thought I would be a jeans person for airplanes but after wearing these on a cross-country flight, I'm a big fan now,” said Popp. “These jeans are super stretchy and roomy, so if (and when) I get bloated while traveling, the high-waist fabric doesn't dig into my stomach or cause me any discomfort. They also look super cute and stylish and can be styled with many different outfits, so I’ve officially added these jeans to my travel wardrobe for every trip.”

Patagonia Women's Nano Puff Jacket

We’re adamant that Patagonia’s Nano Puff is the jacket every traveling woman needs in her wardrobe. It’s lightweight, packable, durable, stylish, warm, windproof, water-resistant — need we go on? Some of our favorite extras are a drawstring hemline to seal in heat and hidden internal pockets. On top of all its functional features, it also comes in sizes ranging from XXS to XXL and 11 colors including buckhorn green, chilled blue, and sandy melon.

“When it comes to packable jackets for women, this one from Patagonia is the best option for virtually any trip,” Popp said. “The design is simple but very functional, and I love being able to wear it for any season. In the winter, it's thin enough to layer for more warmth, but I can wear it as-is during summer camping trips. My outdoor-adventuring family all own Nano puff jackets and they still look as good as new, so I love that they’re built to last – possibly forever – in my opinion.”

Travel + Leisure / Sabrina Weiss

Rag & Bone Miramar Jogger

Rag & Bone

These joggers are so stylish, you’d never guess they’re also comfy as can be. Don’t let their denim appearance fool you — they’re actually made of soft cotton terry that provides stellar mobility and comfort. Over the legging look for travel? Throw these on instead, and pair them with a pair of boots or walking shoes and moto jacket for an effortlessly cool look you don’t even have to change out of once you reach your destination.

“These Rag & Bone joggers are simply the best for travel,” editor-in-chief Jacqui Gifford said. “I call them ‘faux’ jeans; the fabric looks like it’s a regular old pair of denim, but surprise — they have the softness and ease of a pair of sweats. Ideal for a plane ride or even a long day out on a tour, these are the ultimate pants that blend function, form, and style.”

Forme Power Bra

In need of a comfy new sports bra to keep everything in place on your next journey? Our editors (and a certain blonde popstar) are all about the Forme Power Bra. It’s comfy, cute, compressive, and most impressively, designed to zap bad posture. The wide straps take pressure off your shoulders and back, while the comfortable fit promotes proper body alignment, quick recovery, and overall health. We even love all seven colors it comes in — especially rosĂ© and ecru.

"As a bra-needer and someone who really shouldn't be traveling without one, I absolutely hate wearing something bulky while I fly,” associate photo editor Alessandra Amodio said. “My go-to is the Forme Power Bra. Not only is it incredibly comfortable and made of high-quality material, but it’s actually FDA-registered to correct posture and improve your body alignment. Now I fly comfortably and my neck, shoulders and back feel so much better. I just throw on a cute open button down, pair it with the Ergo Shorts or Sculpt+ Leggings , and look chic and put-together while traveling. (This is also what Taylor Swift wore in her Eras Tour rehearsals according to a photo from her Time Person of the Year profile — if it's good enough for Taylor, it's good enough for me.)”

Circus by Sam Edelman Zuri Strap Ballet Flat

Circus by Sam Edelman

We love that ballet flats are back — and this strappy style demands to be worn. The low heel and soft interior make them a great, pain-free option for travel while cross straps, buckles, and tiny beaded bows keep things stylish. They come in 11 sizes including half sizes, and 15 unique colors and prints. We recommend the shades dark French macaroon, light wash, and the leopard-printed beige brown.

“Even though you’d think flats would always be a comfortable shoe option, it’s actually surprisingly difficult to find flats that don’t dig into your feet or make your toes all sweaty,” testing editor Jackie Cucco said. “I’ve tried so many pairs that seem comfortable at first, but end up being too rigid and irritating by the end of the day. This is the first pair I’ve found that is soft enough to wear all day long, either with or without socks or tights. They feel like slippers, and they come in more than a dozen colors to match any vibe.”

Black Diamond Notion Pants

Black Diamond

Whether you’re headed to the airport, the trails, or even the gym, the Black Diamond men’s Notion Pants are your best bet for comfort and mobility. Designed with an elastic waist, a drawstring cord, and a loose fit, these pants feel almost like wearing your favorite pair of sweatpants. However, their slim appearance complete with two hand pockets and two rear pockets make them dapper enough to wear to dinner, a show, or even the office. Grab them in a neutral hue like ash or tundra, or opt for a more eye-catching shade like raging sea or burnt Sienna.

“You don't have to be an Alex Honnold–level rock climber to love these super-soft pants,” news director Paul Brady said. “They're comfortable enough for long-haul flights, even in coach, but they've still got a crisp silhouette to keep you looking put-together.”

Lilly Pulitzer Seaview Top & Deri Palazzo Pant Linen Set

Lilly Pulitzer

You can’t go wrong with Lilly Pulitzer, especially when it comes to jetsetting. This breathable, lightweight linen set from the brand is just as soft and cozy as it is cute, so we recommend adding it to your travel wardrobe immediately. The classic, collared button-down is super versatile thanks to cuffable sleeves and a tieable bottom — plus you can turn it into a jacket or cover-up by layering it unbuttoned over literally any other outfit. Snag the ultra-flattering matching pants to complete the look.

“I think the most versatile item to pack on a warm-weather vacay is a white linen button down, and this roomy one from Lilly Pulitzer is good enough to also grab in other colors like spearmint and mulberry,” associate editorial director Morgan Ashley Parker said. “I’ve worn it unbuttoned over a swimsuit and then slipped on matching palazzo pants — with an irresistible elasticized waist — for dinner alfresco. I personally love the all-white combo for warmer climates but the New Yorker in me would also recommend grabbing the coordinating onyx x onyx set if you can catch it in stock.”

Spanx AirEssentials Wide Leg Pant

There are few things softer than Spanx Air Essentials’ Wide Leg Pants. They feel similar to the brand's sleek and smoothing leggings and shapewear, but they have a relaxed fit rather than a super compressive one. While the pants could certainly be worn as loungewear, they’re also fashionable enough to wear to the airport, a coffee shop, or on an errand run. Though they fit and even look a bit like sweatpants, figure-enhancing contouring on the rear differentiates them from your typical comfy clothing.

“It’s impossible to find a better material than Spanx AirEssentials ,” Parker said. “All pieces feel silky to the touch, hefty enough for a chilly plane cabin, and pretty much impossible to wrinkle. I’m super into wide-leg styles — and need this exact petite option for my 5' 3" frame — and these pants are pretty much a given on my long flights nowadays. Personally, I love the olive-y palm color as an alternative to black or navy, so my only real choice is whether to match them with a crew neck or a sleek half zip instead.”

Pitusa Pima Abaya

If your ideal wardrobe staple is a do-it-all piece, look no further than Pitusa’s Pima Abaya. The cozy caftan is perfect for everything from international flights to pool days to bedtime. That’s thanks to impossibly soft cotton construction, oversized sleeves, and an airy, relaxed fit. There are no buttons, snaps, or drawstrings on this piece, so you’ll never have to worry about uncomfortable digging or fussing with it in order for it to fit right. You can customize your fit upon buying, though, and you can even choose from 15 colors.

“I joke about my ideal wardrobe consisting of a caftan in every color and this floor-length maxi fits perfectly into that vibe,” Parker said. “It can serve as a dress, cover-up, nightgown — pretty much anything, all day, every day in a tropical climate. The lightweight pima cotton is incredibly soft, too, and it comes in petite, standard, and tall options to reduce tailoring needs. I like this exact one because it’s not so sheer that I wouldn’t wear it out to dinner or on the plane but if you’re looking for more of a peekaboo style, you can get the same cut in a burnout fabric instead.”

Mar Soreli Ginger Mary Jane

Mar Soreli

Looking to travel in comfort without sacrificing style? Check out the Ginger Mary Janes by Mar Soreli. Everything from the insole to the strap is ultra-soft and cushioned, plus the buckle and strap are easy to tighten and loosen for a custom fit — or for quickly taking on and off at TSA. They’re even soft to the touch thanks to velvet uppers, and they’re versatile enough to wear with leggings, skirts, dresses, and jeans.

“If you’re someone who wishes slippers were appropriate outdoor shoes, these ballet flats are the next best thing,” Parker said. “The velvet is so cozy but still looks great with anything from plane leggings to a nicer skirt on a night out, with or without socks or tights. And, if you do want to wear them through security (and don’t have TSA PreCheck¼), each strap actually has a snap in addition to the buckle adjustment so they’re incredibly quick to slip on and off as needed.”

Allbirds Wool Runners

Allbirds shoes were basically made for travel, and the Men’s Wool Runners are some of our absolute favorites. The inside is actually lined with fine merino wool, making for soft and warm-yet-breathable wear no matter the time of the year. On top of that, the sneakers are equipped with reliable arch support and machine washable fabric. While we wouldn’t recommend them for running, they’re the perfect comfy shoes for pretty much everything else, including walking, hiking, and navigating the airport.

“My husband swears by these comfortable men's walking shoes so much that I ordered a pair of the women's version for myself,” senior editor Kayla Becker said. “And they really deliver. We both love the thick, foamy cushion that keeps our feet supported on long travel days, and they've stood up to everything from 20,000-step jaunts in Iceland to hiking Diamond Head in Hawaii.”

Aday Turn It Up Pants

Tapered trousers are office staples — so if you’re traveling for business, we suggest adding a pair or two of the Aday Turn It Up Pants to your wardrobe. They’re the goes-with-everything piece you’ve been looking for, and their soft, tailored stretch paired with an elastic waistband makes them comfy enough to catch a flight in. The ankle-length pants have a pocket at each hip and are available in a dozen colors.

“As soon as I found these sleek, wrinkle-free travel pants, they became a permanent part of my travel uniform (and I've even written about how all the travel editors I know have them ),” Becker said. “They're not only super comfortable for long-haul flights (I just flew 14 hours in them and felt like I was wearing pajamas), but they also look put-together right off the plane, whether I'm headed to the office or a walking tour. I'd wear them literally anywhere.”

Saucony Endorphin Speed 4

If you’re the type of traveler that likes to workout on the road, Saucony’s Endorphin Speed 4 is the versatile sneaker for you. Not only is it an ideal comfy running shoe, but it’s also lightweight and sleek enough to wear for every other part of your journey, too. Whether you wear it on the plane or to sightsee once you arrive at your destination, you’ll always feel supported in the Speed 4. Choose from five eye-catching colorways and 15 sizes including half-sizes.

“I've been training for the London Marathon, and since I started wearing these sneakers, I haven't had a single ounce of pain in my feet, even on long runs,” senior editorial director Nina Ruggiero said. “They are extremely cushioned yet so lightweight. Even after the race is done, I imagine I might be wearing them on the long flight home to LA.”

Fundamental Coast Shorebreak Hoodie

Fundamental Coast

To make the most of the space in your suitcase, you’ll want to prioritize versatile pieces that can do it all. That’s why we love the Fundamental Coast Shorebreak Hoodie so much. It’s perfect for travel days and morning walks near your hotel, but it’s also elevated enough to wear to a cafe, museum, or shops around town. The pullover hoodie has a front pocket, drawstring hood, and slim fit for a more put-together appearance. Grab it in phantom black or storm, which both have a beachy, heathered texture.

“Fundamental Coast has perfected Southern California athleisure, especially for men, and my fiancĂ© lives in the brand's hoodies, shorts, vests, and polos,” Ruggiero said. “The Shorebreak hoodie is especially soft and sleek and works well whether we're out doing something active or going to brunch at a new spot in our beachy LA neighborhood.”

Vuori Cove Funnel Neck Tank

Vuori

This high-necked tank top is so stylish, you’d never guess it’s also comfy enough for exercise, stretching out on a plane, or even napping. Crafted with a soft and stretchy rayon-elastane fabric blend, this top never digs into the skin or feels uncomfortably tight around the neck. While it’s not quite cropped, it’s not too long, either, so it’s likely to complement a variety of bodies and ensembles.

“This super-soft rib knit tank is my go-to running top, but the high neck also gives it some style (in addition to protecting my most sensitive areas from the sun),” Ruggiero said. “I have it in multiple colors, and I've definitely worn the black and tan ones out with friends at night, too.”

Vuori Echo Insulated Vest

Vuori

A reliable vest is essential for travelers — it locks in warmth without causing you to overheat, and it couldn’t be easier to zip on and off. We’re big fans of this one from Vuori for its insulation, water resistance, and easy cleaning. It has zip pockets for your hands or small items, and a subtle collar keeps heat from escaping while allowing your neck total range of motion, irritation-free. To top it off, the vest comes in two stylish shades.

“This lightweight but warm insulated vest has quickly become one of my fiancĂ©'s favorite items of clothing,” Ruggiero said. “He wears it on dog walks, weekends, and travel days — it even has pockets.”

Reef Men's Swellsole Cutback Sneaker

It’s no secret that Reef is one of the most trusted rugged shoe brands around, so when it released boat shoes, we were intrigued. It turns out Reef’s boat shoes are just as comfy and long-lasting as the sandals we know and love. The men’s Swellsole Cutback Sneakers are the perfect fusion of classic boat shoes and cushioned sneakers, and they’re perfect for beachy vacations. Wear them from the dock straight to dinner — then keep them on for a busy night of exploring the boardwalk.

“I always thought of Reef for flip-flops, but since my fiancĂ© found their hybrid boat shoes/sneakers, he's bought them in at least three colors,” Ruggiero said. “They're supportive thanks to memory foam, and can be dressed up or down.”

Public Rec All Day Pants

Odds are, you’ve seen these popular pants everywhere from the office to the coffee shop to the airport. That’s because their straight-leg fit and stretchy nylon-spandex fabric move with you rather than tightly confining your waist and legs like other styles. But don’t let their uber-soft texture fool you — these pants are still equipped with two front pockets, two faux back pockets, belt loops, and a zipper fly, so you’ll look and feel just as sophisticated as you are comfortable when you wear these.

“The slacks feel almost like loungewear thanks to their soft nylon-spandex blend,” editor Taylor Fox said. “They're the perfect balance of comfort and style for long flights where you don't want to feel cramped into tight pants, but want to still look put-together when you land. They can also be dressed up or dressed down for added versatility no matter what you have on the agenda.”

ManMade Boxers and T-shirt Bundle

ManMade Brand

One can never have too many basics, and we love this three-piece pack from ManMade. Each set comes with two pairs of black boxer briefs and one white T-shirt. Made of high-quality modal, spandex, and Pima cotton, the briefs and tee are guaranteed to remain soft, breathable, moisture-wicking, and anti-chafing through everything — even long-haul flights and airport sprints. To ensure your comfort, the bundle comes in six sizes ranging from small to 3XL.

“My husband packs about a dozen pairs of boxers and undershirts for a weeklong trip and his absolute favorites come from ManMade,” Fox said. “They're lightweight and breathable with a buttery soft material that doesn't add a bulky layer under clothing. All of their items contain the perfect amount of stretch as well without allowing the clothing to ride up or bunch in uncomfortable places whether he's hiking, riding his bike, or preparing for a long flight.”

The Mate Organic Waffle Knit Joggers

There’s something so luxurious about a good waffle weave. Designed with a relaxed fit and buttery soft texture, these Organic Waffle Knit Joggers by Mate are no exception. They’re made of 100 percent organic cotton, crafted with elastic at the waist and ankles, and equipped with one pocket on the back right side. The cozy joggers come in four neutral colors (jet black, bone, lilac, and bark) and five sizes. You can also drop the matching Organic Waffle Long Sleeve Shirt in your cart to complete the look.

“If I could replace all of my joggers with these comfortable, waffle-knit pants I would,” writer Ali Domrongchai said. “They have the perfect amount of stretch that lends itself well to long travel days, and thanks to its textured design, they not only feel good, but look good, too. In fact, since I've been wearing these cozy knit joggers, a few of my friends have snagged a pair as well because of how much I rave about them.”

Tips for Buying Comfortable Travel Clothes

Consider the material.

When traveling, it’s important to choose clothing that’s as comfortable and low-maintenance as possible. That said, we recommend clothes made of soft, sweat-wicking, and breathable fabrics such as cotton, polyester, linen, or wool. It’s also wise to opt for wrinkle-resistant materials like nylon and spandex to keep you looking fresh and put-together.

Look for travel features

Though it may feel unnecessary, we guarantee you’ll end up thanking yourself for buying pants, dresses, and bags with lots of extra pockets. Additionally, temperature-regulating clothes can come in pretty handy when you’re on the road — so consider adding clothing with cooling capabilities (or just clothes made of linen, nylon, or polyester) to your travel wardrobe.

The most breathable clothing is made of materials like cotton, linen, nylon, polyester, merino wool, and silk. Though fabrics like spandex, fleece, and denim have plenty of benefits, they’re not quite as breathable.

Generally soft, stretchy, and loose-fitting clothing is best for travel, as it’ll keep you comfy and won’t feel restrictive on long flights or drives. Some people may also opt for compressive clothing, like leggings or compression socks, which helps promote circulation on long travel days. You may also want to choose clothing you know to be breathable so you don’t overheat.

Why Trust Travel + Leisure

For this article, associate commerce editor Hillary Maglin collaborated with other members of the T+L team to conclude which clothing that we’ve personally used is the most comfortable for travel days. Hillary travels by plane and car several times a year and is obsessed with soft and slouchy pieces to keep her comfy on her journeys.

30+ Cute And Comfy Travel Outfits

Outfits , Style

Traveling is composed of different mini-adventures: going to the airport, waiting for the next layover, going to brunches, dinners, field trips, night markets, museums, and more. No matter where you are going on a vacation, you want to make sure that you’re dressed comfortably and are ready to travel.

Two crucial factors that you must remember when you pick outfits for travel are context and appropriation. Some places (e.g synagogues, temples, museums, etc) may require you to dress modestly, so doing a brief research on the place you’re visiting is important.

Comfort is also something you should consider when picking an outfit. When you travel, it’s best to keep it on the comfy and safe side. Wear clothes that you have already worn before or try doing a “dress rehearsal” for your new clothes before your trip so you don’t end up with a piece of clothing that’s uncomfortable once you’re already stuck on a plane. You would want to wear something that you know works.

And, of course, you can’t forget about style. Adding a bit of style and thought into your outfit will not hurt unless you take away the comfort from the equation. Always pick your pieces with both comfort and style present.

I’ll share some of my favorite outfit pieces and outfit combos next. Otherwise, scroll ahead to check out 30+ travel outfits for inspo!

Invest in Basics:

Investing in basics can give you the opportunity to pack light on your trip. Bring a couple of “repeatable” pieces that are not easily spotted. It doesn’t mean that you will be wearing one boring outfit the whole way, it just means packing something versatile and something you can mix and match.

This is particularly important if you’ll be traveling a lot. For example, you might be flying a few different times during your trip and taking a train. You don’t need tons of different outfits just to get from one point to another!

Of course, bring in some trendy pieces to combine with your tidy whities and your sleek blacks.

1. Leggings

Leggings are kind of a travel staple. I literally never get on a plane without them. If you’re on a trip, especially a tour or an airport layover, you would want to keep it flexible but stylish. Instead of a dress, wear a cute but casual top (like a crew neck sweatshirt or sweater) over leggings.

2. White/Black Sneakers

Classic white/black sneakers are a travel must-have. You just can’t go without them, especially on a plane or in a car. A pair of classic white/black sneakers are the epitome of comfort and style. Plus, these sneakers can definitely be used during the rest of your trip.

And besides, tired feet are the ultimate spoilsport. Wearing pretty but uncomfortable shoes may cause blisters, keeping your head out of the fun. A snug pair can keep your feet in the best condition.

3. Classic White Tee

An all-around white tee is another wardrobe (or suitcase in this circumstance) must-have. It is as versatile as it can get! Once you’re at your destination, you can wear it with a maxi skirt, tailored pants, shorts, and culottes — the possibilities are endless. Plus, when in doubt, you can always throw on a white tee for your plane ride or road trip.

4. Denim Jacket

No matter the season, a good ol’ denim jacket is the best lifesaver. It is stylish, comfy, and thick — perfect for warming up for a quick nap at the airport. It looks great with black, white, gray, and beige. Pairing it with a floral ensemble is also a good idea as it balances the elements present by adding a classic and neutral show.

5. Lightweight Jacket

Alternatively, you can bring a lightweight jacket to the airport during the summer. The sun may be up and about, but surely, you can’t survive in the airport or the plane with a crop top without catching a bit of a cold. Choose a comfortable but still cute jacket to dress up a pair of leggings.

On the other hand, if you like to keep a light suitcase during colder months, a pocketable down jacket is your best bet.

6. Leather Jacket

A leather jacket is the best alternative to a denim jacket if you’re looking for something thick, stylish, and durable. If your style is edgier, a leather jacket is the best travel companion.

This can also elevate your outfit pretty quickly.

7. Crew Neck Sweatshirt

I’m loving the crew neck sweatshirt right now. It can be layered with so many different outfit pieces (jacket, leggings, etc.) and is  so comfy but trendy.

Comfy And Cute Outfit Ideas

Here are my favorite cute and comfy outfit ideas for your road trip, plane ride, or general day of travel.

Denim Jacket + Crop Top + Sweats + White Sneakers

Crop top and sweats? Sloppy. Add in a nice denim jacket and a pair of sneakers? Super stylish. Traveling with comfort and style just takes a little statement piece to stand out!

Black Hoodie + Black Pants + Blazer + Black Sneakers

Want to make an edgy street style appearance as soon as you get to your destination? Adding a little unique twist can make up for it. You’ll be ready to rock the streets when you land.

White Collared Blouse + Knit Sweater + Black Leggings + Black Sneakers

Going on a business trip? You don’t have to wear sweats to stay comfortable during a long trip. Wear a nice knitted sweater over a white collared blouse for a presentable, stylish, and comfy fit. You’ll never have to worry about seeing a client on your flight.

Crop Sweater + High-waist Leggings + Sneakers

Want to keep it simple? You don’t have to make a lot of fuss – especially if you’re rushing about or if you’re just trying to keep it a hundred percent comfy.

Oversized Sweater Dress + Sneakers

Traveling in the cold seasons? An oversized sweater dress and a pair of sneakers can keep you snug and cozy in one go. This is one of my favorite looks for a road trip or train ride during the fall/winter.

Knit Crop Sweater + Black Biker Shorts + White Sneakers

A carefree ensemble. Put on a nice knit crop sweater and a pair of biker shorts so you can move swiftly and freely during long waiting times. I would bet for a Kim Kardashian-inspired ensemble (beige crop sweater + black biker shorts + bulky sneakers).

White Shirt + Ripped Jeans + Jacket on waist + White Sneakers

Don’t know what to wear? Wear what you already have! With an all-around white tee paired with distressed jeans, you can easily come up with a complete stylish fit. For an added accent, you can put on a jacket or sweater on waist that can come in handy when it starts to get cold in-flight.

Black Sports Bra/Crop Top + Leggings + Oversized Coat + Sneakers

Going on a quick trip? A sports bra top underneath a nice oversized coat can give you a chic on-the-go aura – like you’re waiting to get on the next plane for a yoga session in a different city. Love the vibe!

Grey Shirt + Denim Jacket + Black Pants + White Sneakers

You can never go wrong with monochrome. Black pants and a nice loose grey shirt can make a nice outfit for quick coffee trips during a layover. A denim jacket can keep you warm when the A.C. is on high!

Striped B&W Tee + Silk Scarf + White Pants + White Sneakers

Want to travel like a Parisian? A striped tee and a printed silk scarf can give you a classy, chic, and sophisticated aura. Personally, the best outfit to get croissants with.

Vintage Rock Band Tee + Leather Jacket + Washed Denim Pants + Sneakers

If your style is more hipster-like, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t rock a vintage band tee on your trip. The best example of this ensemble would be one of Kendall’s favorite fits. For the jeans, I would prefer to wear distressed black than dyed denim. But it’s all up to you!

White Tee + Black Jeans + Grey or beige Cardigan + Sneakers

Wearing a cardigan is like wearing a blanket. If you’re dreaming of a comfy, cozy trip, you should get invest in a high-quality cardigan.

Where To Buy Comfy Travel Pieces:

Converse is one of the best cult classic brands out there. Starting out as a basketball shoe, it has grown into a stylish wardrobe must-have. No matter what your personal style is, a pair of Chucks can seamlessly blend into it. Plus, they have a variety of colors to choose from. Personally, I would pick their Black All-Star Chucks , but playing with colors is a fun way to add spark to your outfit.

Alternative to the classic All-Star pair, Vans play a healthy competition with Converse. It started out as a skate shoe, eventually growing into a must-have pair in hipster communities. If your style is composed of rock band tees, distressed jeans, plaid — Vans is a good brand to consider.

If you have a bit more budget, a pair of classics from Nike is a great addition to your travel fits. My favorite is a pair of white Air Force casual sneakers that I usually pair with neutral ensembles, monochrome outfits, and printed dresses! It is a bit bulkier than a pair from Converse and Vans, but it balances the volume in some of my outfits.

If you’re a sneakerhead, there are a lot of other choices from Nike as well – a pair of Jordans look good with any comfy travel outfit as well.

American Apparel

American Apparel is good at providing high-quality basics and stylish clothing. A lot of their pieces are inspired by trendy silhouettes, but they are all grounded in versatile and classic elements. Crop tops, skirts, and denim are some of my favorites from them. Plus, they’re a hundred percent American-made!

Uniqlo is a home for affordable high-quality, technical, comfy, and stylish pieces. This is the haven for people who are passionate about packing light. Find pocketable down jackets, windbreakers, vests, and Airism (lightweight) technology tees that are guaranteed accessible — no matter your budget.

H&M has everything for the trendy traveler. Find rock band tees, distressed tops, cut-out crop tops that look laid-back and fashionable. They also have the best selection of sweaters in my opinion. From knits, crops, cotton, and more!

If you’re a fan of DIY-inspired clothing, you can find a lot of distressed jeans and cut-out shirts from the store. I’ve always loved DIY, but being able to buy clothes that are close to my imaginings always comes in handy. And H&M almost always gets what I have in mind

Along with H&M, you can mix up your travel wardrobe with classy and “trendy basics” from Zara. I particularly love their neutral and classy palettes (beige, cream, black, gray). And their coats are always on point!

Nordstrom is home to luxury brands like Marc Jacobs, Balenciaga, Bottega, Veneta, Coach, Burberry, and Jacquemus. I love bringing a small belt bag that can fit my travel needs (passport, ID, wallet, keys, etc) along with a tote where I can fit a book to keep me company but I don’t keep important belongings in a tote where I am most likely to replace. In that way, you don’t end a trip empty-handed.

I recently got back from a dreamy getaway to South America. I took some time over my holiday vacation to unplug and reconnect with my family, and let me say, it was much needed. It’s crazy how much good can come out of a change in scenery, and it was just the way I had hoped to end one year and start another.

Truthfully, adjusting back to the freezing cold and snowy weather in Indianapolis has been challenging to say the least. I know that as a whole, the temperatures around the U.S. are pretty brutal right now, which has me and many of you guys lusting after a warm-weather trip .

Whether you have a spring vacation planned or you’re simply dreaming of more comfortable days, I thought I’d put together some beach vacation outfit ideas for you. All of these pieces are versatile enough to wear regardless of the destination you’re heading to (even if it’s just your neighborhood pool once summer hits .)

Here’s to sunnier days ahead!

Beach Vacation Outfit Ideas

Beach vacation outfit #1.

If you’ve followed me for a while now, then you have likely caught on to the fact that I am a big neutral girly. I love classic looks that focus on black and white pieces because they have a high-end, elevated feel.

When packing for a beach vacation, it’s important to consider how many ways you can wear each piece of clothing you bring. For example, can you throw your coverup on over your swimsuit but also wear it as a dress to dinner?

By sticking with simple colors, you increase your ability to mix and match things (which, hint, hint, means more room in your luggage for souvenir shopping.)

Beach Vacation Outfit #2

Don’t underestimate the wear you’ll get out of timeless and simple pieces, like this black fringe dress . This pretty dress could easily be worn to a nice dinner or happy hour yet could also be styled in a more relaxed and casual way. Swapping out heels for sandals is one example of how you could dress it down, or opting for a beach tote rather than a dainty clutch .

p.s. A beach vacation is the perfect time to play around with fun prints and patterns, like on this shirtdress .

What I Wore on My Latest Trip

Obviously no beach trip is complete without a good variety of swimsuits, and because they’re so compact, it’s easy to get away with packing many! I personally love and most often wear swimsuits from the brand Hunza G.

They’re so comfortable and are made with quality that’s hard to beat. Not to mention they are super cute, whether you’re a one-piece gal or you prefer a bikini (I’m totally obsessed with this bubblegum pink find .)

Another non-negotiable for me? A cute yet practical sun hat.

If you plan on spending any time on the sand or in the water, then you definitely don’t want to forget bringing a hat (sun protection is an essential part of skincare!)

The two I linked below were on heavy rotation for me throughout my trip, and I plan on wearing them a lot in the spring and summer.

Is it just me or does it feel like cover-ups are the ideal choice to lounge around in during a vacation? They’re comfortable, easy to slip into, and they are practical—three major wins in my book.

To get the most bang for your buck, go with a cover-up that’s plain and simple—one you can wear over and over throughout the years.

I love this cream v-neck find and think the front slit adds such a flirty, feminine vibe. Prefer a skirt cover-up? This one will never go out of style.

Bright Dress

Just like bold, fun patterns are on-trend for beach vacations, so are bright and unexpected colors. During my trip, I got so many questions about this vibrant blue dress that I just had to include it in this post. It works just as well as a cover-up as it does for going out.

This exact dress is currently on sale (snag your size while you can!) but there are plenty of options in other colors if blue isn’t your thing.

Matching Set

When you’re in the mood to wear something comfy but you don’t want to lounge around in your cover-up anymore, opt for a matching set. I’m wearing this pinstripe top and these bottoms in the photo below, but there are tons of sets you can choose from—you can even find some good sets on Amazon !

The PERFECT Travel Day Outfits That Are Stylish, Chic…and Insanely Comfortable!

Versatile travel outfits.

If you are anything like me, you LOVE traveling, but also feel such stress and worry when it comes to packing. You want to find the perfect pieces to bring with you on your trip that will be both stylish and comfortable. One of the keys to packing smartly is making sure you create a travel capsule, where everything mixes and matches seamlessly together. This provides maximum versatility. You also need to consider what you’re going to wear on the actual travel days too. On travel days, comfort is KEY! And, you want to wear pieces that you’ll be able to wear again on your trip. Yep, it’s a tall order. Hence why I typically get packing anxiety. But, in this post, I’m sharing some anxiety-free, incredibly comfortable and versatile travel pieces that you can confidently pack and wear!

If you’re interested in even more travel outfit ideas, make sure you check out this post next.

Spanx AirEssentials Collection

Spanx AirEssentials Collection

Have you heard of the  Spanx AirEssentials Collection ? I’ve talked about the collection before in this post .  They are RIDICULOUSLY comfortable. I mean, like the most comfy pieces you’ll ever wear. They are also an Oprah favorite. And, in case you are still not convinced, here’s even more incentive to give them a try, you can use code ERINXSPANX to get 10% off your Spanx purchase.

The #1 reason I love the AirEssentials Collection so much is the fabric. It’s lightweight and breathable, it’s perfect for women going through menopause or who just run warm. The fabric also drapes beautifully, and the fit is wonderful. It also is wrinkle-resistant which is one of the reasons it’s great for travel. Keep scrolling for some of my new favorites from the collection

AirEssentials Spice Set | Versatile Travel Outfits

#1) AirEssentials Spice Set

If you’re looking for the absolute best travel outfit, especially for a really long flight
this is IT! I already have this set in three other colors, but I was so excited to get it in this gorgeous Spice color for fall. The color is a pretty mix of burgundy and chocolate brown but it comes in a few other colors that are more neutral too. Traveling in this half zip and the wide leg pants is super comfortable but you also look super chic, elegant, and pulled together.

what to wear while traveling, AirEssentials Half Zip

AirEssentials Half Zip

I’m wearing the half zip in the amazing, super soft on the skin, wrinkle-resistant, comfortable, and lightweight AirEssentials fabric. I love this half zip
it’s very chic, you can zip or unzip it as much as you want, and it’s not too thick, so you can tuck it into pants a little without adding bulk.

spanx airessentials cropped wide leg pants

Matching Pants

I’m wearing it with the matching wide leg pant that has such a good fit and is SO comfy. I have on the AirEssentials Wide Leg Pant in the petite inseam and it works perfectly with a pair of sneakers (I’m 5’4” for reference). The Wide Leg Pant comes in regular, petite, and tall inseams, and there is also a Cropped Wide Leg Pant option!

Remember you can use code ERINXSPANX to get 10% off your Spanx purchase + free shipping.

what to wear on travel day

How To Wear Them at Your Destination

Another great thing about these pieces is that you can mix and match them when you get to your destination to get some serious mileage out of them. Style the half zip with a tee, jeans, and sneakers for a day of sightseeing. If you get too warm, you can tie it around your shoulders for a chic look. Similarly, you can style the pants with a tee and sneakers for a casual breakfast or lunch. If you want to take it up a notch, throw on a denim or leather jacket to elevate the look a bit more.

spanx airessentials jumpsuit

#2) AirEssentials Long Sleeve Wide Leg Jumpsuit

The next new AirEssentials piece I’ve added to my collection is this super cool, elegant, versatile jumpsuit . I love it so much and have been wearing it around the house nonstop. This is a one-and-done piece you could bring with you on a trip to wear sightseeing or even out to dinner
it’s sneaky chic! Plus, the fabric is wrinkle-resistant (and comfortable), so you don’t have to worry about steaming or ironing it. I wouldn’t wear it on travel day because it is a jumpsuit and you don’t want to be completely disrobing in an airport bathroom
or worse, an air plane bathroom.

I love the deep pockets and that you can wear it zipped or unzipped. You can also push the sleeves up to give it an even more styled look. It doesn’t need it, but if you wanted to elevate it a bit more, you could play around with adding a belt too. I’m wearing the jumpsuit in the Petite length (30” inseam) and it works with sneakers.

Versatile Travel Outfits for women

#3) AirEssentials Ballet Wrap

The next piece I snagged is this ballet wrap  that’s in the same amazing AirEssentials fabric. It’s very chic and looks SO elevated but is incredibly comfortable. Wrap tops are super flattering on most body types, but especially for women with larger busts. Even if you’re not traveling, this top is a great one to have in your closet. It also comes in white if you want to create some contrast against black pants. I’m wearing the AirEssentails Wide Leg Pant again with sneakers and the fit and length are just perfect!

spanx airessentials collection review

Since the pants are black, they’re super versatile. Wear them with any casual top or tank you have in your little travel capsule and sneakers for sightseeing or meals. The ballet wrap would also look amazing styled with jeans and sneakers for a casual chic look! I’d also wear this ballet wrap over my sports bra to and from a workout for a little extra coverage.

Which of these pieces is your favorite? Have you tried the Spanx AirEssentials Collection yet? Please let us know in the comments below!

I love the air essential outfit! It is so soft and comfortable. I dohave a question
. How do you tie the ballet top?

So glad you love it too, Gloria! Erin tied the ballet top on her side toward the back so you can’t really see it, but you can put the tie on your side or further in the front too. Since the top is a wrap-style, you’ll take the longer tie on the left side, thread it through and around your right side to the back. Then take the shorter tie (that’s on your right side) to the tie you just wrapped around your back and tie it into a nice little bow. It’s the same process for tying any sort of wrap-style top or dress! It’s a little difficult to describe over text, but please let us know if you have additional questions! ~Team Busbee

The Travel Edit: 8 Simple Travel Day Outfit Ideas

I will always be team comfy when it comes to travel. When I'm traveling, I'm usually throwing on leggings and an oversized sweatshirt or my favorite matching sweatsuit. Heels in the airport? She'd never. At the same time, there's definitely an art to pulling off sweatpants (and a few tips on making them look a little less just-rolled-out-of-bed and a little more refined).

I recently shared the travel gadgets I can't go without so I thought it would be fun to share some travel day outfit ideas you can bookmark for your next trip. Keep reading for five simple travel day outfit ideas that are simple, comfy and put-together. Whether you're into the trends, prefer to stick with the classics, or love adding a little edgy vibe to your look, there's something here for everyone.

Make sure to stop by   my travel page for my travel guides, must-haves, tips and more!

Travel Day Outfit Idea

For the trendy girl

Bodysuits just make everything easier. If you're into the onesie trend, try pairing this bodysuit with an oversized denim jacket and some sneakers ( these are one of my most-worn pairs), for the ultimate cool-girl look.

Travel Day Outfit Idea

For the girl who's always in black

I love a monochromatic look, especially if it's all black. There's no better way to make sweatpants look chic than with a matching set. Accessorize with some simple gold hoops  and gold chain necklace (Code DANIELLE20).

Travel Day Outfit Idea

For the cool & casual chick

If you don't mind wearing jeans on the plane, you can still keep it casual-meets-comfy with a graphic hoodie and a pair of Converse (size down a half size). PS - Anine Bing hoodies are a splurge, but the quality is on par; I've worn + washed mine a million times and they're still in perfect condition.

Travel Day Outfit Idea

For the neutral-lover

Here's another matching set you can style if you want to keep it neutral. Pair it with the  Adidas Gazelle sneaks (love this blue pair), clip your hair up to polish off the look (or if you feel like skipping wash day) and you're good to go!

Travel Day Outfit Idea

For the refined comfy girl

When in doubt, throw a long coat like this one (size down) on with your comfy joggers or sweats. Not only will it keep you warm, but it dresses up your look while saving space in your suitcase.

For the resort-ready girl

Travel Day Outfit Idea

For the elevated lounge lover

These buttery soft satin pants are where lounge meets travel. Throw on a super soft denim button-up like this one  for maximum comfort!

For the sporty chick

I hope these travel day outfit ideas give you some inspiration for your next trip! When it doubt, stick to the basics, keep it simple and accessorize (oh, and don't forget these travel gadgets )

25 Travel Vloggers to follow in 2021

  • December 30, 2020

The end of 2020 is the perfect time to start your YouTube addiction 😉 Many people can’t/won’t/don’t travel right now, and that’s totally understandable, but there’s no reason you can’t “armchair travel” through some incredible YouTube creators. That’s why I’m putting together this list of travel vloggers to follow in 2021!

About 2 years ago, we started watching travel vlogs pretty regularly
this was partly thanks to Sean convincing me to buy a smart TV for the living room which means we have access to YouTube while hanging out in the evenings. Discovering how people were creating travel content through video was the inspiration we needed to really focus on building our own travel YouTube channel — which you can check out and subscribe to.

travel vlog outfit ideas

If you Google articles for top travel vloggers, you’ll definitely find a few lists but I’m putting one together for a couple of reasons. One is that I want to share with you who has inspired us, and two, I want to introduce you to a few that aren’t the biggest in the business because there are smaller creators that you might vibe with. So, while there will be some big names on this list, you’re guaranteed to discover new ones!

Have your own favorites? Add them in the comments!

The Endless Adventure

travel vlog outfit ideas

This is our favorite travel channel on YouTube because Eric and Allison are so relatable, friendly, and travel in a similar way we do. They also go all over the world and seem to have fun with life while staying on top of their upload schedule. Obviously, 2020 threw us all for a loop and now they are renovating an RV in between local foodie adventures that usually end up in a super unique accommodation. They are just hard not to like.

Travel Beans

travel vlog outfit ideas

This super fun British couple are known as the Travel Beans and they love to travel and seem to take a different route on travel vlogging. Emma and Alex share all sides of the trip — good or bad. And they are happy to teach us what they’ve learned.

Kara and Nate

travel vlog outfit ideas

Very well-known are Kara and Nate . This couple tends to get a little controversial for, in my opinion, some silly things. While they make a lot of money from YouTube and products they’ve created thanks to their success, they are still down-to-Earth and super pleasant. They go to very interesting places and also stay in very unique accommodations.

travel vlog outfit ideas

I think I’ve found Cup of TJ from The Endless Adventure when they did a collaboration and, funny enough, we were all at the same conference in 2016 (I think) in London, but I wasn’t watching YouTube yet, so I didn’t know! TJ has the cutest travel and food show on YouTube
and I hired her as my YouTube coach for the spring and summer in 2020. So, I can tell you first hand that she’s amazing and her food videos always make me hungry and make me laugh!

Heart my backpack

travel vlog outfit ideas

Silva, from Heart My Backpack is an American-Norwegian who grew up in the U.S. but has lived in Norway for more than a few years now. She’s done the female solo traveler thing before it was cool, she’s been to countries that some people haven’t heard of, and, annoyingly, knows a few languages. (I say annoyingly because I not-so-secretly wish I did, too) Silva will be the first to tell you that she’s socially awkward and if you read her blog, you’ll feel her snarky storytelling shine through. Her videos make it all more fun and you get to see parts of Norway that nobody else is covering!

travel vlog outfit ideas

Deja Shu is a channel run by Shu that’s mostly food and travel with a bit of London lifestyle thrown in. I’ve met Shu and have seen her work and she’s a pro who really cares about giving you a good video that makes you want to run out the door and do what she’s doing. That’s the sign of a good vlogger!

Girl vs Globe

travel vlog outfit ideas

Positivity is the first thing when I think of Sabina of Girl vs Globe . She’s also just genuinely kind and that shines through in every single video. She takes responsible travel very seriously, but I’m guessing she’ll be showing us more of London soon, but until then, she’s sharing a bit of London lifestyle, as well.

Chasing a plate

travel vlog outfit ideas

This food-obsessed travel channel does an excellent job of sharing the best food everywhere they travel. Thomas and Sheena have great energy that you’ll feel through the screen! They’ve done collaborations with some of my favorite vloggers so they hang out with cool people 😉

Backpacking bananas

travel vlog outfit ideas

If you are looking to see what backpacking around the world looks like, especially as a female solo traveler, then Christianne is your woman. She has such a friendly personality that’s easy to follow when she’s on her adventures.

Eva zu Beck

travel vlog outfit ideas

This channel will blow your mind because Eva goes on some crazy epic adventures and makes it impossible to stop watching when you start playing one of her videos. She strives to show you places you won’t see in the mass media and is a true adventurer.

travel vlog outfit ideas

Mark is the king of food travel videos and his YouTube channel was one of our early favorites. You’ll mostly find him in Asia since he and his wife live in Bangkok, but there are lots of videos from all over to get you drooling.

Delightful travelers

travel vlog outfit ideas

Anna and Trevor are a couple of Canadians who love to travel the world — whether it’s through budget travel or splurging on some luxury. I appreciate this balance because sometimes we want to splurge and sometimes we are more frugal so we can splurge in other ways. And it’s always nice to watch people who travel similar to us.

The Wandering Quinn

travel vlog outfit ideas

The wonderful Ellie creates travel videos from all over the world and her bubbly, but real, personality is fun to watch. She even travels to some places you may not have thought of visiting, but she’ll show you what you’re missing!

Roaming Required

travel vlog outfit ideas

For anyone looking for some informative travel content, London residents Roma and Russ from Roaming Required have got you covered! The love sharing history, food, and travel tips from anywhere they travel and I can’t wait to see more videos from them.

Life by Linda

travel vlog outfit ideas

I love this woman’s energy! Life by Linda is all about finding adventure in adulthood and that most definitely includes travel. I really think this is a hidden gem of a travel channel that’s going to be a favorite of many just because of how fun it is!

He Goes, She Goes

travel vlog outfit ideas

The fun-loving couple behind the He Goes, She Goes YouTube channel are from Canada and travel all over. Their friendly and personable personality had me hooked and I think it will have you binge-watching their videos, too!

travel vlog outfit ideas

We can’t stop watching Kombi Life . This guy has been making YouTube videos for 8 years and his storytelling is captivating. If you’re looking for a REAL look into van-life, you should be watching this channel. But it’s way more than that. Just watch an episode and you’ll understand. Besides, since it’s been 8 years, there’s plenty to binge 😉

The Travel Matt

travel vlog outfit ideas

I’m fairly certain this guy was born to be on camera. The Travel Matt is charismatic and gives travel advice and creates travel vlogs in various cities around Europe and is worth checking out!

The Average Tourist

travel vlog outfit ideas

Sara is absolutely charming in her travel videos on The Average Tourist and I can’t wait to see how she grows and gets even better with her filming and editing. She tends to cover North America which is great for North Americans looking for inspiration closer to home at this time.

The Daily Departure

travel vlog outfit ideas

This Daily Departure is run by a flight attendant named Noelle based in Chicago and has travel vlogs from all over the planet! She has such a unique perspective and opportunity to travel and I’m looking forward to seeing what she does in 2021.

Means To Travel

travel vlog outfit ideas

Eliz started this travel YouTube channel just before the pandemic and has been helping people prep to travel again. This is another one where I’m looking forward to seeing how the channel grows and evolves because I love her focus on meaningful travel and talking about how to have the means to travel.

Jeanie Marie

travel vlog outfit ideas

This native Minnesotan loves to travel and has so much energy so if you want to watch a feel-good channel, then Jeanie Marie is one to subscribe to. She currently focuses on Minnesota (which has a bunch of gems), and on her trip to Mexico. Where will she go next?

The Little Grey Box

travel vlog outfit ideas

You’ll notice something different about The Little Grey Box channel and that’s because Phoebe is a professional presenter on CNN and CNBC and her videographer Matt is an actual videographer. That makes this channel a bit more professional than some of the others, but you still get that travel vlog vibe with the excitement and wonder of travel.

Chase for adventure

travel vlog outfit ideas

This is a new-to-us channel with a super adorable couple that travels the world, is so fun to watch. Annette & Daniel are travel journalists who mostly focus on Asian destinations, but have playlists of their videos from around the world.

I’m always on the hunt to discover new channels to enjoy and I’ll share them with you, too! But if you have a favorite, please leave it in the comments so others can check them out. Please don’t forget to head over to our channel at A Wanderlust For Life for all things food & travel. Once you do, let us know you’ve joined us by leaving a comment on your favorite video that we made 😉

Wishing you joy and travels!

15 Awesome Travel YouTube Channel Ideas for 2024

Launching a travel YouTube channel can be quite the task; especially, when you’re not sure what to upload. That’s why I’ve compiled this list of travel YouTube channel ideas to help you fill up your content calendar.

Even if you’ve already started uploading videos to your channel, you may find these video ideas helpful. Also, this list might help jog your creativity to come up with even more video concepts!

Travel YouTube Channel Ideas

travel vlog outfit ideas

1. Airport Vlog

What’s the difference between an airport vlog and a travel vlog? An airport vlog is more focused on getting to a destination than the destination itself.

For example, if you’re taking a 15 hour flight or have a 24 hour travel day you can vlog about your experience and how you survive such a long travel day. You can also talk about flying with a specific airline, what the food on the plane was like, and how the different airports were.

This is also a good time to throw in a little airport ootd or what’s in my carry on.

2. Pack With Me

Pack with mes are another popular video idea for travel youtube channels. Whether you’re packing for a cruise, Disneyland, or a tropical getaway, a pack with me video is a great way to share packing tips with your audience.

You can share things like what toiletries you’re bringing, how you keep things organized, what outfits you’re bringing, etc. You can also include affiliate links in your video description to help generate some income. I use RewardStyle for style and Amazon products.

Sample Ideas:

  • Pack with me for Paris – Winter Edition
  • Packing for a 10 Day Caribbean Cruise
  • What to Pack for for a Aspen Ski Vacation

3. Bucket List

Share with your audience what destinations you’re dying to visit.

Don’t simply list them off, tell them WHY you want to visit these destinations. Is there great food? Is there a specific resort you really want to stay at or a really cool attraction? Educate while you share.

People are always looking for suggestions on where to travel and by sharing your bucket list you may just be influencing their next vacation!

4. General Travel Tips

General travel tip videos are another great travel YouTube channel idea. Again, this is an opportunity to educate your audience. While we like to think everyone’s traveled before, there’s tons of people who may be taking their first trip ever at any given time.

In these videos, you can share ways to save money, packing hacks, tips for a better plane ride, etc.

  • Tips for Solo Female Travelers
  • How to Make Traveling with Kids Easier

5. Destination Specific Travel Tips

Piggybacking off of general travel tips, is destination specific travel tips.

While general travel tips will serve many travelers, destination specific tips are for those visiting a particular place. You could also think of this as a “Know Before You Go” type video. For example, a Positano travel video might include things like the best time to go to avoid crowds, what airport to fly into and the transfer options, how to get around the area, and other info visitors might find helpful.

  • 10 things to know before visiting Greece
  • 5 Tourist Traps to Avoid in Paris
  • Tokyo Travel Tips to have the best trip ever

6. Travel Vlog

If you’re starting a travel youtube channel, chances are you’ve already planned on doing travel vlogs. Depending on the trip, I will either break my travel vlogs down by destination or by day. For example, for my 10 day trip to Spain and Portugal , I did a vlog for each city we visited. However, for Disneyland I did two vlogs, one per day we were there.

Very few people will sit around and watch a 40 minute travel vlog. So, I like to break down the content into more digestible segments.

7. Travel Essentials

Sharing Amazon Travel Must-Haves or general travel essentials is another popular video idea for travel YouTube channels.

People are always looking for ways to be more efficient when traveling and for products that help them with this. These videos are also a good way to generate some affiliate income. I like to use LiKETOKNOW.IT to link all my products. It works with Amazon and a bunch of other brands.

Sample Video Ideas:

  • Camping Travel Essentials
  • Road Trip must-haves
  • The Best Amazon Travel Finds

8. What’s in your Travel Makeup Bag/Toiletry Bag

If you’re like me and like to share a mix of beauty and travel content, a “what’s in your travel makeup bag” or “what’s in your toiletry bag” video is a good way to blend the two.

Talk about the different skincare and beauty products you bring with you when you travel and why.

Looking for more beauty channel ideas? Read my Beauty video ideas post !

9. Destination Budget Breakdowns

Follow up your travel vlog with a destination budget breakdown.

For this video you can do a mix of talking head clips with some destination footage. Walk your audience through how much each attraction cost, what you spent on meals and transportation, and any other expenses for your trip.

You can also throw in a few tips on how to save money.

10. Travel Makeup Routine

Another beauty/travel crossover video idea is a travel makeup routine.

If you’re already sharing different makeup looks on your YouTube channel, this is an easy video idea to implement.

  • Glowy Summer Vacation Look
  • Simple 5-Step travel makeup routine
  • My Go-To Beach Makeup Look

11. Luggage Unboxing

My most popular video on YouTube is my Monos Luggage Unboxing .

People are always on the hunt for the best suitcases and carry on bags. So, if you’ve recently purchased a new travel bag or have an old reliable piece, film an unboxing or luggage review sharing the ins and outs.

12. Travel Camera Equipment

If you have a variety of cameras and accessories that you bring with you when you travel, show what’s inside your travel camera kit .

And this doesn’t just have to be cameras and lenses. Share what memory card you use, which bags and pouches you use to keep everything organized, and any other tools you use.

13. Travel Resources

For a travel resources video, share which sites and apps you use to plan, book, and execute your travels.

Think Rome2Rio, Booking, Going (formerly Scott’s Cheap Flights), Viator, etc.

Some people have never traveled before or have only traveled locally, which is why sharing resources is one of the more helpful travel YouTube channel ideas.

14. Lookbook

Lookbooks are an oldie but a goodie YouTube video concept. The idea is to show off all the different elements of your outfits for a particular season or event.

For example, you could do a Hawaii Lookbook or a cruise lookbook featuring all your outfits that you wore during your vacation.

This is another good opportunity to share affiliate links and generate some extra income.
