What to Know

  • Go to the Airport and select I wanna fly! > I wanna visit someone > Search for a friend or Enter a Dodo code .
  • To travel to a new random island, buy a Nook Mile Ticket from Resident Services and use it at the airport.
  • To unlock Harv’s Island, establish three plots of land. After he invites you, choose Visit Harv's Island at the airport.

This article explains how to visit other islands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Visiting other islands requires access to the airport, which opens up after completing the game's early stages.

Once you know your Switch friend's island is open, either locally or online, or you have their Dodo code, you can join them at the airport. Here's what to do.

Go to the Airport.

Speak to Orville and select I wanna fly!

Select I wanna visit someone

Choose whether to join a local island or go online.

Local only works if your friend is playing the game nearby physically.

Select either Search for a friend or Enter a Dodo code.

The former looks for friends on your friends list with open islands, while the latter requires you to enter a code given out by the host.

Choose to join the island and visit.

How to Visit Other Islands in Animal Crossing New Horizons

Another way to visit an island in Animal Crossing New Horizons is to use Nook Miles to buy Nook Miles Tickets to a random island. On the island, you can collect resources you may not already have available on your island. Here's how to visit.

Go to the Terminal in the Resident Services building.

Buy a Nook Mile Ticket for 2,000 Nook Miles.

You may need to collect more Nook Miles by completing daily tasks.

Speak to Orville.

Select Use Nook Miles Ticket .

Travel to the new random island.

You can harvest trees and bamboo, collect fruit, collect flowers, and meet new villagers on the island. You can also invite the villagers back to your island.

Once you leave, you will never return to the same island, so don't leave anything essential on the island.

How to Visit Harv’s Island in Animal Crossing New Horizons

Harv's Island unlocks once you have established three plots of land for new villagers on your island. He appears randomly to invite you over. Here's how to visit.

Select Visit Harv's Island .

Select Time for takeoff!

At Harv's Island, players can take photos in his photo studio setup. It's also possible to access an unlimited supply of all your items and fossils within the studio.

When visiting other people's islands, you should follow some polite rules. Here's a brief overview.

  • Don't linger for too long. Like in real life, know when to leave. Don't outstay your welcome. If you've come solely to exchange goods, go once you've done so.
  • Respect the island. Don't trash another player's island by chopping down trees or picking all their flowers. Leave it in as good condition as you found it.
  • Never 'leave quietly.' It's possible to leave an island 'quietly' by pressing the - button to leave, but this can be buggy and cause issues for players, especially if you've just traded items. Leave via the airport to ensure this does not happen.
  • Communicate with the other player. It's friendly to say 'hey' and talk to the other player, as well as potentially leave a gift. After all, you're a visitor to their home!

There is no specific timeframe for Redd's visits, but you can expect to find him wandering about your island once every couple of weeks. Sometimes, you'll hear an announcement that Redd has arrived, while other times, you'll notice his Treasure Trawler and know he's there.

Flick randomly visits islands. He could arrive any day of the year, but he will always leave the next day by 5 a.m. When Flick visits your island, be sure to sell all the bugs you can to him to make as much money as possible.

To  get iron in Animal Crossing , your best bet is to use a shovel or axe to strike rocks you find on your island and hope an iron nugget appears as a resource.

To get a ladder in Animal Crossing , you'll have to progress through Tom Nook's tasks, such as paying off your tent, building your home, building Nook's Cranny, and building a bridge. After accomplishing these tasks, Nook will give you a ladder recipe.

Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Visit a Friend's Island

One of the most exciting parts about Animal Crossing: New Horizons is having the ability to connect with friends online and visiting other islands.

It may have been quite some time now since Animal Crossing: New Horizons first launched for the Nintendo Switch, but there are still plenty of new players that are just getting their feet wet with the long-running life-sim series from Nintendo. One of the most notable features from the latest entry allows players to visit their friend's islands via the in-game airport.

In order to visit another island in the game, players will need to be connected online first and foremost. Going to other islands that are owned by other players will be impossible without a stable connection. Once that's done, Animal Crossing: New Horizons island goers will have to make sure that they have a Dodo Code from their friend.

To get this Dodo Code, players will need to speak to Orville at the local airport and tell him that they want visitors. Once this is done, a Dodo Code will be given out and will need to be sent to the friend who is trying to fly out of their island.

RELATED:  Animal Crossing: New Horizons Adds More New Years Items

By simply speaking to Orville and telling him "I wanna fly," the player will then be prompted to choose an island that's accepting visitors, and then the Dodo Code will have to be input. Once that is all set up, players will soon be on their way to their friend's digital Animal Crossing island. Keep in mind that the online connectivity in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a bit strict in what players can and cannot do.

For example, if one person is coming to visit another player's island, the owner of that island cannot be in a menu or in a conversation with a villager or NPC . And the island owner is also not allowed to move around any furniture, whether it is indoors or outdoors. Still, even with the limited functionality, players can have a fun time running around each other's island, hanging out on a beach, or just get inspired by all of the decorative items scattered about.

How Many Players Can Visit At Once?

Animal Crossing: New Horizons supports up to four players on one system locally and up to eight players online . This means that if someone already has eight friends on their island, other players will not be able to enter until somebody leaves the island.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is currently available as a Nintendo Switch exclusive.

Animal Crossing New Horizons, How to Visit Other Islands

Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Visit Other Islands

Image of Keenan McCall

A key part of Animal Crossing New Horizon ‘s gameplay is being able to travel to other islands – both unexplored and inhabited by other players – to see what they’ve got to offer. You may be unclear on how to do this though, which is why we’re here to help with a guide on how to visit other islands .

How to Visit Other Islands in Animal Crossing New Horizons

To visit other islands in Animal Crossing New Horizons, you’ll need to redeem Nook Mile Tickets for 2,000 Nook Miles each.

Nook Miles are a form of currency in New Horizons rewarded to you for completing a variety of challenges, from cleaning up the island of weeds to greeting every resident on an island in a single day. You can check to see what these challenges are from the Nook Phone.

Note that you won’t be able to purchase things from the terminal until you’ve completed the early ‘tutorial’ portion of the game, so just keep going and you’ll eventually be notified when you’re allowed to browse the terminal items.

Redeeming Nook Mile Tickets

After collecting enough Nook Miles in Animal Crossing New Horizons, you can then use them at the terminal in the Resident Services building to purchase Nook Mile Tickets – items which, when used at the airport, allow you to visit other islands which contain new sights and rare resources for you to discover and claim for your own.

With some Nook Mile Tickets in your possession, head to the airport and speak to the NPC Orville inside. They’ll give you the option to redeem your tickets to travel to new islands and see what else the world has to offer.

How to Visit Other Players’ Islands in Animal Crossing New Horizons

As for how to visit other players’ islands in Animal Crossing New Horizons, it’s a slightly simpler process as you won’t need Nook Mile Tickets.

After reaching the point in the game where you have access to the Airport, speak to Orville and select the “I wanna fly!” option. From there, you’ll be able to choose whether you want to visit the island of another player locally or online.

You’ll want to choose local if the player whose island you want to visit is in close proximity to you. Online, meanwhile, should be selected if they’re a decent distance away from you, or if you want to visit a random person’s island.

Choose whichever option best applies to what you want to do, an then wait for Orville to provide you with an island to fly to. Confirm the island as your destination, and you’ll be sent flying to a new island via plane.

Time needed:  3 minutes

So, to recap how to visit other players’ islands:

He’ll be the NPC behind the desk.

This will begin the process of traveling to other islands.

Local islands are those tied to players close by to you, while online can take you to islands “far away” from you via an internet connection.

After a bit, he should provide you with another player’s island to travel to.

And that’s all there is to know about how to visit other islands in Animal Crossing New Horizons . For more on the game, check out our guide wiki . It has plenty of useful info on topics like what the download and install size is and what the preload and unlock times are.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Horizons – How To Visit Other Islands

Image of Dean James

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is all about moving to your new island getaway and creating a home with yourself and other villagers. You are far from the only island in the sea though, as there are plenty of islands to explore with lots to see. It’s possible to visit islands that your friends have made, as covered in another guide , but we’re going to be focusing on how to visit other random islands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

How To Visit Other Islands

One of the earlier tasks in Animal Crossing: New Horizons involves finding unique specimens for Tom Nook, which then leads to Blathers coming onto the scene in hopes of building a museum. He then requires you to find an additional 15 unique specimens for the museum, which can seem like a tall task. You will start catching the same fish and bugs on your island, as well as being limited in the number of fossils available daily.

This is where traveling to other islands comes into play, as other islands hold plenty of creatures that yours does not. To travel to other random others, you will need to acquire a Nook Miles Ticket, whether it’s your first free one or you purchase them yourselves .

After you have your Nook Miles Ticket in hand, go to the airport and speak with Orville. Here you want to tell him that you want to fly and he will mention that you have a Nook Miles Ticket. You will want to select the option where you say you’re using the Nook Miles Ticket and then you will go on a plane to another random island.

Once on this island, catch and collect whatever you want, though be careful of your limited inventory. If you by chance break some of your necessary items like a fishing rod or shovel, you can go to the pilot and spend Nook Miles to get another. You will want to talk to the villager on the island and invite them to your island as well while you are here.

After you have done everything you can do on the island, speak to the pilot and you can head back home to your own island.

How to Visit Another Player’s Island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

animal crossing visit another island

I get by with a little help from my fruit-having friends.

If you’re like me then one of the first things that you want to get when you start a new game of Animal Crossing is all the different kinds of fruit so that you can have those fruit trees growing near home. Or maybe I’m the only person who wants to do that, I don’t know. But more importantly, in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the quickest way to do this is to just go and visit your friends because lots of people have different fruits growing than you do.

animal crossing visit another island

So how do you hop on a plane and fly over to your friends’ islands? First, it needs to be your second day on the island. Nook will announce that the airport is now open and then you’ll be able to go down, talk to the lovely Dodo at the counter, and let him know you want to fly.

Your friend will have to do the same, but instead of saying that they want to fly they’ll need to say, “I want visitors.” Doing so, will open their gate basically giving you permission to head over to their island.

You will need internet access in order to do so, but once you’re both connected, you’ll be on a flight to Superbutt Island or Boobtopia in no time. From there you can trade fruits at your own discretion. Just be kind and courteous or our God, Nintendo, will come after you.

Animal crossing new horizons: what to do when visiting friends (& what not to do).

Visiting friends in Animal Crossing New Horizons is not only fun but helpful. This guide will layout the Dos and Don'ts when visiting friends

Animal Crossing New Horizons  allows players to visit each other's islands, but there a certain etiquette that comes along with every visit. This guide will provide players tips on what to do and not do when visiting another player's island.  Animal Crossing New Horizons  is the most social game to exist in the franchise yet. Nintendo allows up to four players to share a single island on one console and permits up to 8 players to visit each other on one person's island. Players can host little parties, exchange items, and even help the host player make decisions on how to improve their island. Players are allowed to visit each other's fully customizable islands just to hang out. This is a great way to meet new players as well.  Animal Crossing New Horizons is a strange game as in when players visit the island, there isn't actually much to do besides sit around, fish, and catch bugs, but that's kind of the point. There's something about  Animal Crossing where playing the game amits this vibe and only players of the series can really understand it. Multiplayer is really about doing nothing together, and in some odd way, its the best for that. Although, there are certain unspoken rules that should be followed when visiting another player's island.  Animal Crossing New Horizons  is a positive game, but when negative players come to taint the experience, it can ruin it for everyone. This guide will help players know what to do and not do when visiting another player's island.

Related:  Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Make Tools Last Longer

Animal Crossing New Horizons multiplayer feature is added once the player unlocks the airport. The airport can be located at the bottom of each island and can take players to friend's own islands. This unlocks after the first full day in the game and also plays a vital role in attending Nook Tours. Nook Tours are special areas where players can purchase a Nook Ticket to attend an alternate island experience. Here, players can take whatever resource they like without any negative effects on their own island. This is a great way to stockpile materials for crafting and potentially run into fruit the player doesn't have residents to their island. Also, players can meet new villagers on these Nook Tours and invite them over to move onto their own island as a permanent resident. Friends can also meet these new villagers when they come to visit. This is helpful for gathering Nook Miles. Gathering Nook Miles also happens when visiting a friend's island. Want to keep collecting Nook Miles from visiting friends? Don't upset them! This guide will help players with the island etiquette with what to do and not do when visiting friends.

Do: Bring Fruit When Visiting Friends in Animal Crossing New Horizons

In  Animal Crossing New Horizons , the player will begin their island adventure with 1 of 6 fruit, Cherries, Oranges, Coconuts, Peaches, Apples, and Pears. Players can find other fruit by visiting other islands using the Nook Miles, but the best way to go about gathering new fruit is to trade with another player. When heading to another island, bring along your islands resident fruit, the other player might have other fruit they would like to share with you. Fruit from other islands sells for much more than the native fruit from Timmy and Tommy. This is a great way to populate the island with a wide variety of fruit.

Do Not: Take Fruit Without Permission in Animal Crossing New Horizons

It is almost a reflex for players to see a tree with fruit on it to go right ahead and shake the tree. While this is acceptable on the player's own island, this can upset the island owner if they were planning on doing something with this fruit. In most cases, players will respond positively if asked if they can have fruit. The  Animal Crossing community is amongst one of the kindest in all of gaming, so sharing is only second nature to their positive personas.

Do: Bring A Vaulting Pole And Ladder in Animal Crossing New Horizons

This is a perfect act of kindness for new players especially. When new players begin their island, they only have access to very few locations due to lacking the proper tools to explore. Eventually, the player will unlock the ability to craft a vaulting pole, then later a ladder. To help new players begin their journey, why not bring them a vaulting pole and ladder. This will allow them to go around and do every possible thing on their island. It does take a few hours to unlock the vaulting pole and ladder and can be a breaking point if players decide to keep playing or not. Help them out by bringing these helpful items.

Don't: Leave Holes in Animal Crossing New Horizons

Island hosts can add other players to their best friends lists, giving them the ability to dig holes on their island. While players are visiting, they may stumble across a clam buried underground in the beaches. Players can dig these up and turn them into fishing bait. While it is cool to collect items from another player's islands, it is recommended to clean up the holes left behind from digging. This can be a real annoyance to players who want to keep their island clean. Make sure to fill the holes after collecting the item.

Animal Crossing New Horizons  is a game about building a community, not only with the local residents but the ones in the real world too. The island life can be a bit lonely, so going off to visit other friends is the best way to be alone together. There's something special about  Animal Crossing New Horizons that can only be explained by players of the games. It manages to successfully take dozens of hours from players without noticing. It's hard to imagine that players can put hundreds of hours into a game about fishing and catching bugs, but that's still a low bar for playtime.  Animal Crossing New Horizons is one of the most addictive games to release in 2020.

Share All sharing options for: How to be a good visitor in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Two Animal Crossing characters sit at a cafe table together at night

When you visit other peoples’ islands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons , it’s important to be a kind guest.

There are certain things you should keep in mind when visiting a stranger’s (or even a friend’s) island. Of course, your island host may not care about any of this, so it’s important to communicate with them about their island rules. While they might not care about their flowers getting trampled, they might care if you picked up some spare materials left out by a workbench. It’s all about communication, baby!

If you’re going into a stranger’s island keep these things in mind:

Don’t take anything without asking

Whether it’s fruit or flowers, furnishings from the store, or even stray items left on the ground, don’t take things without permission. Most folks will be happy to share their fruit and flowers, but some might want to keep it to themselves until they can grow more.

Don’t trample the flowers

Be mindful of where you’re running. While some people might not care, generally, running over flower gardens or hybrids is a big no-no. Unlike past games, the flowers will grow back in a day rather than dying into the void forever, so it’s not as damning, but it’s still an uncool thing to do.

Give people a heads up when you come and go

Fish , balloons, and even bugs can despawn when people arrive and leave the island. This can be devastating for those about to reel in a big fish, catch a rare bug, or shoot something out of the sky. If you’re able to communicate clearly when you’re coming and leaving, you should do so.

Leave turnip tips

Tommy suggests that they are buying turnips for 532 Bells each

This is by no means mandatory or expected for anyone, but if you’re selling off your turnips on another island, consider tipping the island owner . There’s no set amount expected, but since this person is letting you (and maybe others) in on good prices, it’s a nice gesture. Sometimes hosting other people for turnip sales can be a pain, due to the long process that occurs when people come and go. It can be even more of a pain if you need to make multiple trips to sell off all your vegetation.

Close your windows when the game asks you to

Yes, it’s annoying that the game has that weird cutscene while people load in, but it’s necessary. Close your windows and stop what you’re doing to make the process as painless as possible for everyone.

Bring a thank you gift

This also isn’t mandatory but it’s nice to bring along some foreign fruit, flowers, or other items the person may be seeking out. Ask what items or materials folks might appreciate before heading in!

The Do's And Don'ts Of Visiting Friends In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Image for article titled The Do's And Don'ts Of Visiting Friends In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

One of the true pleasures of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the sense of connection. It’s not just that Nintendo’s life sim has achieved near-universal ubiquity in a matter of days. It’s the fact that you, alongside up to seven other players, can go and visit a friend’s island. There, you can do what you’d do on your island: fish, catch bugs, play dress-up. Except you’re doing it together. Right now, with togetherness in the real world a fleeting resource, few things could be more welcome

Related Content

But like state dinners, wedding receptions, and elevator rides, there’s an unwritten code of conduct here. One wrong move can easily ruin a good time. In the interest of keeping everyone’s cortisol low in this genial game, get your Emily Post on and follow the rules to a tee.

Put down the phone.

When someone’s trying to visit your island, make sure everyone—including any other guests who have already arrived—has their Nook Phone tucked away. Otherwise, another guest won’t be able to fly to your island. Orville will relay to your scheduled visitor this vague message, “Wuh-oh! Looks like we’re getting interference… Hang on,” and refuse to book them a plane. Just wait until you’re all together to pull out your phones. That’s more like real life, anyway.

Don’t go into buildings at the same time.

Entering or exiting a building at same time as one of your fellow players can cause lag and other connectivity issues. While you’re at it, don’t try shopping from the same vendors at the same time, either. Only one player can talk to any given shopkeeper at once. This can cause strife if, say, one player wants to buy a whole tuxedo but, before they get around to purchasing the slacks, another player has struck up dialogue with Mabel. In short, wait your turn.

Don’t be a bully.

Tom Nook’s Getaway Package doesn’t have a security force. There are no laws. The closest thing to a bouncer in this game is that antisocial dodo with sunglasses who fires off faux military lingo. In other words, there’s no easy way to kick someone off an island without kicking off all of your guests by ending the session.

Reporting someone—which you can do by hitting the minus button and selecting “Report”—won’t immediately remove them. Delisting someone from your friends list will prevent them coming back, but it won’t kick them out of a current session. When you’re a guest, don’t abuse this immense privilege.

Here’s an example, for which I admit full culpability: When I first started playing, I visited a friend’s island. She was farther along than me—had a ladder, a vaulting pole, an upgraded ax, all that jazz. I still had flimsy tools and very much wanted an upgraded shovel. Understandably, she said no, on account of the fact that I had nothing useful to trade. So I started stomping on all her flowers. Soon enough, she gave me a sweet shovel, with one condition: I leave her island, stat. You shouldn’t do what I did! It’s mean!

There are other ways you can pressure people into lopsided trades, so long as you’re on their best friends list. You can plant trees all over the place. You can dig a bunch of holes in front of their house. You could even go full MI-6 blacksite operative and start chopping down trees. These tactics are all mean, too! Don’t do them!

Plan ahead.

When you’re on someone else’s island, you can’t access your storage. If you want to gift or trade something—say, a brand-new shovel, extra clothes, or some of your island’s native fruit—to your host, be sure to bring it with you before you go. Otherwise, you’ll either have to build it from scratch or head all the way back to your island. Both moves are total time-wasters.

Similarly, you can’t decorate while someone is visiting. If you’re hankering to show off your Throwback Race-Car Bed or Mini Fridge, put that stuff on display before guests arrive.

Ask before you take.

As you walk around someone’s island, you’ll probably see a ton of stuff that you want. There are fossils and pricey bugs . Each beach brims with seashells you can sell for bells. Taking any of this stuff without permission is frowned upon. But the gravest sin is to steal fruit that isn’t native to the host’s island. For instance, a host’s island might have plenty of pears (ew) and just one peach tree, which they certainly got elsewhere. You might want those peaches; I understand the impulse . Stand down.

Stealing the peaches robs your host of a cash flow. Each piece of native fruit sells for 100 bells. Non-native fruit, however, goes for 500 bells a pop. Your host could also be saving those peaches to create a grove. Planting three peaches begets three peach trees (and nine peaches). Planting those nine peaches creates 27 trees. You can see how the dollar signs add up. Seeing as it takes three days for fruit to regrow on trees, stealing those three peaches means you’re setting back your host’s plans by at least three days.

Maybe your host is willing to share. Who knows! The point is: Ask first.

Watch your wi-fi.

When someone leaves an island without going through the official channels—meaning only the airport—you’ll get an alert that “someone quietly left.” Maybe the wi-fi cut out or the Switch disconnected from the internet due to a wayward press of the power button. Regardless, the game will then reload. All players with a steady connection will stay on the host’s island, but any progress made in that session will revert. Dug holes will get refilled. Purchases will be refunded. Chopped trees will grow back.

To be sure, there’s not much you can do about fickle internet service. At the very least, keep cats, babies, and other unpredictables away from the router. It also helps to remember not to suspend the game using the Home button.

And for the love of K. K. Slider , stop stepping on the flowers.

Animal Crossing online multiplayer: How to add friends by visiting and inviting players in New Horizons explained

Everything you need to know about the multiplayer aspects of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Multiplayer , with both the other human residents of your island and the players on other islands, is an important part of Animal Crossing: New Horizons .

You can play online with friends by inviting them to your island by using the airport - though the process takes a few steps before players will start arriving.

You can also play locally, too. There's Party Play , a new feature introduced with New Horizons, allows up to four player residents of the same island to play together, or simply have everyone play who has their own Switch and a copy of the game.

On this page:

Multiplayer in Animal Crossing: New Horizons explained

How to play online multiplayer in animal crossing, from visiting to inviting another player to your island in new horizons, party play and local multiplayer in animal crossing: new horizons explained, multiplayer restrictions in animal crossing: new horizons explained.

If you want to learn more Animal Crossing: New Horizons, then check out are guides on amiiboo support and amiibo support .

There are three forms of multiplayer in Animal Crossing: New Horizons:

  • Party Play - for interacting with the players who you share your island with in local multiplayer
  • Inviting Players - for inviting other players to come and visit your island both online and locally to different Switch systems
  • Visiting Players - for visiting other player's islands yourself both online and locally to different Switch systems

animal crossing visit another island

Both inviting and visiting other players requires either a local wireless or Internet connection. You will need a Nintendo Switch Online membership if you wish to connect Animal Crossing: New Horizons to the Internet.

When it comes to inviting players to your island, you can have up to seven visitors at a time, meaning there will be eight players on the island in total.

You'll be able to communicate with visitors via NookLink, which will be available in the Nintendo Switch Online. This app is available on a range of smart devices and will allow you to communicate via both the keyboard and voice chat. It won't, however, be required for online play.

animal crossing visit another island

Party Play, however, can only be used with the other player residents of your island. It allows you to explore your island with three other players all on the same Nintendo Switch. It does, of course, require multiple controllers to work.

animal crossing visit another island

Eight players in total can live on one island at the same time, which means that Party Play allows half of the player population to play together.

To use Local Play, you and your visitor must be in the same place using the same connection. This makes Local Play the ideal for inviting or visiting your friends.

If you want to invite any visitors onto your island or visit a friend in Animal Crossing: New Horizons you need to go to the Dodo Airlines airport .

This airport will be located along the coast of your island and, after your first day of living there, will be open 24 hours a day.

This means multiplayer isn't available until your second day of playing . So if you started playing on Friday, you must wait until Saturday before multiplayer becomes available to you. Until then, Orville will say they need more time to set up.

animal crossing visit another island

Once you're in the airport, talk to Orville to begin the process of inviting a guest to your island or visiting another. For both activities, he'll give you the option of using either Local Play or Online Play.

By default, your island (and those of your friends) will be 'closed' off to other players. In other words, you need to turn multiplayer on for them to see you online, and means your friends can't simply stumble into your island without you asking.

To invite another player to your island, talk to Orville and open your gate . The other player(s) must then ask Orville to search for players who are online. If the gate is open, it will appear on the list.

animal crossing visit another island

Now head on over to start playing with them. This is the case if you are playing locally with another Switch and a copy of the game - having to open the gate to your island each time you want people to arrive.

This all requires some external communication to begin with, but once a friend has visited, it's worth adding them as a Best Friend, which is an app which is added the first time you play online.

Doing so allows you to see when they are playing their game - but also allows them to make edits to your island, so be careful who you add!

Though you still have to go through the same process - going to the airport, opening the gate, and your friend going to the airport and searching for open gates - it means you can see in-game who is playing, and also message them to ask them to turn on multiplayer - without having to check your phone outside of the game.

Additionally, if you prefer not all of your friends to appear on your island, you can toggle between 'All my friends!' and 'Invite via Dodo Code' when you open you gate - which also allows you to invite non-Switch friends for a one-off visit.

Both of these features can be restricted by parental controls if needs be.

Party Play has been specifically designed for islands with multiple player residents, allowing up to four players to visit the island at the same time on the same console.

To begin Party Play, use your NookPhone and select Call Islander.

This will allow you to select up to three other player residents and they'll join you on the island. This means that up to four players can play Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the same console at the same time.

animal crossing visit another island

In classic Nintendo style, you will need to own a set of Joy-Con controllers for each player who wants to partake in Party Play.

Once the other players have been called, it's time to explore the island as a team!

Party Play works by assigning one player to be the Leader, while the other one to three players will be Followers. Initially the Leader will be the player who began the Party Play, but you can easily switch to another Leader at any point during Party Play.

animal crossing visit another island

The Leader decides where the party goes on the islands, with the Followers, of course, following along behind them. During this time Followers can complete activities, such as fishing, collecting resources or just having a lie down.

Talking to a resident or shopping, however, are tasks that can only be completed by the Leader. If a follower wants to complete one of these tasks, then all you have to do is switch leadership over to them.

animal crossing visit another island

Any item you collect as a Follower in Party Mode can be collected from the recycle box in the Resident Services building.

The Animal Crossing 2.0 update and Happy Home Paradise is here! We can help you with the new additions - including where to find Brewster , Gyroids , new villagers , ordinances , new fences , storage shed , new hairstyles , Froggy Chair , group stretching and Kapp'n boat tours . Cooking is now unlockable, so you need to know how to make both flour and sugar , as well as how to grow carrots, potatoes and tomatoes . Meanwhile, if you're new to Animal Crossing, our New Horizons tips can help with the basics. From the off, there's fish and bugs to catch , flowers and fruit to grow with. One long term goal is building your Happy Home Academy score . Finally, you need tools such as the new ladder and vaulting pole to fully explore.

There are number of minor restrictions you'll encounter when using the Animal Crossing: New Horizons multiplayer.

The first is that to live on the island, each player must have a Nintendo Account and have that account on the Nintendo Switch, which contains the island they want to live on.

Each player will have they own house (or tent in the beginning) and there will be no restrictions on their gameplay, expect for on their very first day on the island.

The Dodo Airlines airport will be shut for the entirety of your first day on the deserted island, which means you can neither visit or invite any other players.

animal crossing visit another island

It will, however, be fully functionally forever and open 24 hours once this first day has passed, so you don't have long to wait.

You might encounter the final restriction when you visit another player's island, or have a visitor yourself, and discover that you're unable to use a number of your tools, like the axe. This is to prevent you from purposely destroying another player's island by, for example, chopping down all the trees.

That said, you will be able to get fruit - it's important to get different varieties after all!

animal crossing visit another island

If you want to lift these restrictions for a specific visitor, then you need to register them as a Best Friend using your NookPhone.

animal crossing visit another island

Being someones 'Best Friend' in Animal Crossing: New Horizons will allow you to use any tool you like on their island. Just don't give into the temptation to destroy the island or, if you do, try to avoid being caught!

Island Sharing Guide

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the first player account to start the game will become the Resident Representative of their island home. After this, other accounts on the Nintendo Switch can also join the island as other villagers - but there are certain limits to how each player can progress the town's evolution when sharing the same Switch. This guide lists what other player can and cannot contribute to in terms of island life.

Town Progression Limitations

While the first player embarks on their Deserted Island Getaway Package, and go through a lengthy tutorial of exploring the island, placing villager tents, and naming the island - any other player with an account on the same Switch cannot join in on this until the start of the first real day.

Once on the island, there are certain things other players can and cannot do. In general, these are the things non-resident reps can do:

  • Harvest Resources
  • Cut Down Trees , Break Rocks , Plant/Pick Flowers
  • Craft and Place DIY Projects
  • Buy and Sell
  • Donate Fossils
  • Contribute Funds for Bridges and Inclines
  • Upgrade (and Move) Personal Homes
  • Collect and Redeem Nook Miles
  • Encouraging Villagers to Stay/Leave

However, much of your island town's progression is initiated from certain events, usually by talking to Tom Nook and learning what must be done to entice new Villagers to your island. In this regard, there are certain events that non-Resident Reps cannot start on their own, as the dialogue events simply will not happen. These include:

  • Choosing and Naming the Island Town
  • Inviting Blathers and Choosing the Museum Location
  • Building Nook's Cranny and Choosing the Location
  • Building the First Bridge and Choosing the Location of Villager Homes
  • Inviting the Able Sisters to Stay and Choosing Their Shop Location
  • Building a Campground
  • Selling Land for Villager Home Plots
  • Moving Existing Buildings

How to visit another player's dream island (animal crossing: new horizons).

Applies to:  Nintendo Switch Family, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch - OLED Model

In this article, you'll learn how to visit other players' islands that they have uploaded to the dream library in Animal Crossing: New Horizons .

In order to use the dream feature in Animal Crossing: New Horizons , you must:

  • Update the game to version 1.4.0 or later .
  • Be connected to the internet.
  • Have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership.
  • Set the Nintendo Switch to the correct date.
  • Enable Communicating with Others , if the user is managed by Parental Controls.
  • Have at least 5 animal residents living on your island.
  • Have your first home on the island (not including the tent) and a bed.
  • Remove your wand transformation, if equipped.
  • Close your island gates and play solo.

The first time these conditions are met, you will receive a letter from Luna the following day containing Luna's Bed.

Dreaming in Animal Crossing: New Horizons allows you to visit other players' islands even while they are not playing. Because these island visits happen only in dreams, you will not be able to make any changes to the actual islands. In order to visit another player's dream island, you will need their Dream Address.

Complete these steps

  • Enter your home in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and lie down on any bed furniture.
  • If you are not asked if you want to sleep, make sure you have updated the game to the latest version .
  • Select I want to dream after Luna explains what you can do in dreams.
  • A player can choose to remove their island from the dream library. When this occurs, their Dream Address will no longer work.
  • When you are ready to stop visiting the dream island return to your island, lie down in the bed in the plaza.

How-To Geek

How to visit someone's island in dreams in 'animal crossing: new horizons'.

The second summer update for "Animal Crossing: New Horizons" allows you to travel through dreams with Luna.

Quick Links

Update your game, set up a dream address, invite others to your island, visit someone else's island, dream address settings.

The promised second summer update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been released, and it restores the ability to visit another player's island in your dreams. Before you can do so, though, you'll need a Nintendo Online membership.

Before you launch Animal Crossing: New Horizons on your Nintendo Switch, be sure you're connected to the internet to  download the latest software update . You'll need to be running version 1.4.0 or higher to access the new summer update content.

Related: How to Update Nintendo Switch Games

If you’re connected to the internet before you launch the game for the first time, the launcher will automatically notify you that a new software update is available.

If you missed the automatic update notification, navigate to the Animal Crossing: New Horizons game launcher on your Nintendo Switch Home screen. Press the Plus Sign (+) button on your right Joy-Con controller to open the "Options" menu.

You’ll see "Ver. 1.4.0" or higher in the top-left corner under the game title if you’re updated to the latest version. If not, select "Software Update," and then choose "Via the Internet" to download the latest update to your Nintendo Switch.

Press the "A" button on your controller to submit any changes. After the game updates and launches, a prompt will inform you that your save data will be updated to the latest version release.

To begin your dream-walking journey, take a nap in any bed in your house. If you don't have a bed, check your mailbox. Nintendo has sent players "Luna's Bed" just for accessing the update! After dozing off, you'll appear in a dream realm and be greeted by Luna.

Luna grants those who share their island a "Dream Address," which players can exchange and use to visit each other's islands in the dream-state. Think of it as a friend code  for dreaming.

Related: How to Connect With Friends in "Animal Crossing: New Horizons"

An internet connection is required and you must have a Nintendo Online membership to visit and receive visitors when accessing the new dreaming feature. Luna will remove all items from your inventory before you embark.

To invite people to your island, climb into a bed. You do this by tilting the directional analog controller next to the bed in your home. After you're in bed, select "Yeah, I Want to Sleep . . ." from the menu.

When you wake up, you're greeted by Luna. After a short introduction, Luna will ask if you'd like to dream or share your dream.

If you want to receive visitors to your dream island, select "I'd Like to Share a Dream." An internet connection is required to upload the current state of your island and share it as a "Dream."

Luna will give you a few warnings before you can upload your dream to the internet. First, when sharing the dream of your island, other players---including those you don't know---will be able to visit a version of your island. However, they can only do so if they have your 12-digit dream address code. They can also visit your island when you're offline.

This means player-generated data about your island and its residents will be public. This data includes all of the following:

  • Your character's name and passport information
  • What your entire island looks like
  • The rooms in homes
  • Your custom designs and bulletin-board posts

Visitors to your dream can also bring back any design on display in your Customs Designs Portal.

This is no different than inviting a friend or random players to visit your island, though. They can't make any changes to your island. However, as long as the dream address exists, anyone can visit it.

After you listen to Luna's rules and conditions, select "I'm Ready!"

Luna will connect to the internet to save your game, and then upload the current state of your island to a dream state. A 12-digit "Dream Address" you can share is assigned to the uploaded dream and it's also uploaded to her library. Anyone who has this 12-digit code can visit this dream state of your island.

You can talk to Luna once per day and request that she update the current state of your island to her dream library (the internet).

If you'd like to visit another player's dream island, a secure internet connection is required. When you're ready, repeat the steps above to locate a bed and fall asleep. Then, select "I Want to Dream" from Luna's list.

After the short introduction we explained above, Luna will ask if you're ready to visit another player's dream island. Choose "Yes, I Am!" from the menu. Luna will connect to the internet to save your game, and then you must input the dream address of the island you'd like to visit.

Input the 12-digit code, and then press the Plus Sign (+) button on your right Joy-Con controller to move forward.

Luna will ask you to confirm the name of the island you're visiting. If the name of the island is correct, select "Yes, It Is!" and Luna will connect to the internet.

When you appear on the dream island, Luna will give you a quick explanation of how things work. In dreams, nothing is permanent because nothing you do is saved, so explore to your heart's content.

When you're ready to leave, just hop back into bed and select "I Want to Wake Up!"

You'll wake up in your bed with your belongings returned to you.

By default, your character's dream address is set to appear on your passport and your island's map. If you don't want it displayed, you must ask Luna to change the settings.

To do so, hop into your bed to enter the dream state, and then select "Yeah, I Want to Sleep."

When Luna appears, select "About the Dream I Shared," and then choose "Adjust Dream Address Privacy." You can also delete a dream address by selecting "Delete the Dream."

Luna will present the option to change your dream address to private. Select "Yes. Make It Private" from her menu to do so. She'll confirm she's set your dream address to private. Press "B" on your right Joy-Con to exit the dream state.

You can confirm these changes once you're outside of Luna's dream realm. To confirm these changes, press the "ZL" shoulder-button on your left Joy-Con controller to bring up your Nook Phone menu.

Select "Passport" and take a look at your island's "Map" to make sure the dream address was removed. The image below shows what a passport looks like when the dream settings are "public."

There doesn't appear to be any way to visit another island without a dream address (sorry Animal Crossing: New Leaf fans!). With this new addition to the game, though, players can create a dream island to share creative and awe-inspiring designs and layouts with visitors.

Dreaming can be a fun way to visit a friend's island and get some inspiration without arranging a Dodo Airlines visit (which also requires your friend to be online).

Sweet dreams!

Animal Crossing New Horizons: 10 Etiquette Tips For Visiting Another Island That Everyone Should Know

Visiting player's islands is a great way to get ahead in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. If you want to be invited back follow these dos and don'ts.

Visiting other people's islands is a fantastic way to exchange recipes, make trades, socialize with friends, and generally have fun. It can also be used to find meteor showers and items for sale that aren't currently on your own island. However, thanks to some unacceptable behavior, many players have found themselves shutting down their islands in order to preserve them.

RELATED: Animal Crossing: 10 Shops We Will Likely See in an Update

Since Animal Crossing: New Horizons can be more fun with friends we've put together some etiquette tips that can help you be a good island visitor. If you play nicely when people are kind enough to extend invites to you, then you're more likely to be invited back, or even added to the best friends list. Here are our top do's and don't of island etiquette.

10 Do: Greet Your Host

It's polite to greet your host. Even if you can't see them as soon as you arrive, any messages you send will show up in the chat log. Saying hello shows that you appreciate the invitation and want to acknowledge it.

Often long conversations aren't expected and many players are happy to let others wander around while they do other things but opening islands does limit that island's player, preventing them from doing certain actions, so saying hello is a small way of recognizing this.

9 Don't: Shake Trees

Casually shaking trees seems like a minor thing to do but it can inconvenience the player whose island it is. This is because you can end up messing up their resource collecting system.

Trees can contain useful items, including furniture and twigs, and are also home to bugs. They are also something that takes time to remove all the resources from each day, especially if you have a lot. Shaking them early can mean valuable bugs vanish before the island owner has a chance to catch them.

8 Do: Ask Before Taking Items

Many players have systems in place for others to grab useful items. These can be DIY exchange points, fruit stalls, or trade areas. However, there are many different ways of doing this so it's always polite to ask first and check that islander's rules.

RELATED: Animal Crossing: New Horizons: How To Get The Perfect Villagers Using Amiibo Cards

Asking before taking things also applies to weeds and other low-value items. While weeding seems helpful, weeds can be used in several crafting items, including hedge fences so sometimes players are growing and collecting them for this purpose. Asking takes seconds so make sure you do it.

7 Don't: Run Over Or Pick Flowers

You'll often find an island with a beautiful flower garden. These can take a long time to carefully craft and many are designed to breed valuable hybrids. As such anyone running through the flowers can really upset a host.

Picking flowers is even worse as you can stop hybrids from forming by picking the plants needed to make them grow. Basically, if it isn't your garden then treat it with respect and look but don't touch.

6 Do: Ask If Plants Need Watering

If you want to help maintain someone's garden, often seen as an easy way to thank them, then ask about watering plants. Some players may leave signs up indicating thirsty flowers but others may not.

Asking what needs a watering can allow you to save a player time and watering cans, giving a little something back. Just be careful as you go not to pick the flowers or trample the garden!

5 Don't: Move Items

It is of no consequence if you think something is out of line or would look better elsewhere. You do not mess with another player's island design. Most items can be moved but it doesn't mean you should move them.

RELATED: Animal Crossing: 10 Hidden Mechanics & Tips New Horizons Doesn't Teach You

If you start moving things around expect your host to get very irate. Many players are incredibly particular about their designs and don't want unsolicited advice or "help."

4 Do: Bring Things To Exchange

It's a nice gesture if you bring things to exchange. Especially if someone else's island is in its infancy then bringing along some non-native fruit and some of those elusive iron nuggets can really help them get going.

Duplicate DIY recipes, flowers, and duplicate furniture or fossils are also great items to pass on if you can. Why not pack a few and see if you can find a helpful trade? It will benefit both of you.

3 Don't: Steal Items

This should be obvious but sadly it really isn't. Some players still seem to think that stealing rare or high-value items especially is a great idea. Here's the thing, it's a lose lose situation. All you are doing is encouraging a player to keep the gates closed and stopping yourself and others from benefitting.

RELATED: Animal Crossing New Horizons: 10 Best Custom Codes For Island Improvement

It's also entirely unnecessary. Items can be cataloged easily and then you can get them for yourself, it will just cost you a few nook miles, which are easy enough to collect. Don't ruin things for everyone else to save a little currency.

2 Do: Ask If You Can Catalog Things

Cataloging is a great way to expand your nook store selection. All it involves is you picking up an item then dropping it back down on the ground for your friend to put back. The act of doing this means it will then show up in your nook store on your own island.

You'll be able to purchase it as usual through the guest services ATM and receive it in the mail. If you're polite and ask about cataloging a friend may even bring items from their home outside for you, allowing you to further increase your store choice.

1 Don't: Be Disrespectful

This rule is at the top of the list as really it's the only one that matters. Don't be disrespectful . Opening your Animal Crossing island is a risk for players, especially if it's open to strangers via dodo code shared on social media. Don't be the person that spoils it.

If you're about to do something that you'd hate someone to do to you then quite simply, don't do it. Say hello, ask for permission if unsure, be polite, and have fun. It's really that simple.

Do you need Nintendo Switch Online to have friends visit your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

Image of Zack Palm

For those enjoying Animal Crossing: New Horizons, we highly recommend grabbing the Nintendo Online subscription so your Nintendo Switch can access the internet. You will unlock multiple features available in the game, such as being able to invite friends to your island whenever you connect to the internet. Is Nintendo Online required for you to invite friends to your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

Can you invite friends to your island without Nintendo Online?

Regardless if you want to join a friend’s island or invite them to theirs, you will need to a Nintendo Online subscription to play with others in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It does matter if you and your friend are a good distance away from each other trying to play the game. When you visit your island’s Airport, make sure to choose the Online Play option

However, the exception to this is through local play. You can connect if you and another New Horizons player are on the same network and near each other. The big thing for this is to be relatively close to each other, such as being in the same room. We wouldn’t recommend trying to connect to someone else if you are across the house from each other, but it might work. You can access these functions by visiting your island’s Airport and asking to do Local Play instead of Online Play.

Alternatively, there’s the single-system multiplayer where you can invite another profile on your Nintendo Switch to visit your island. Both profiles will need to be registered to the same Nintendo Switch. This is not a split-screen function. Instead, you and the other players on the same Switch will share a screen, with a leader deciding where you all go on the island and what activities you do. You will need to be in the same room as everyone.

A majority of Animal Crossing: New Horizons players will want to have a Nintendo Online subscription if you’re playing with anyone outside of your house. However, if you live with someone or share the same Nintendo Switch, visiting someone else’s island is possible without purchasing Nintendo Online.

How to visit another player's dream island (animal crossing: new horizons).

  • Set your Nintendo Switch console to the correct date.
  • Enable "Free Communication With Others" if Parental Controls restrictions have been set for your Nintendo Account.

  • When you are ready to stop visiting the dream island and return to your own island, lie down in the bed in the plaza.

Make friends in Animal Crossing: New Horizons by sharing your dodo code in NookFriends

Want to know how to use this dodo code forum?

This is a friendly dodocode/turnips exchange forum. To use this forum you would need to share your ACNH Dodo Code, to allow users to visit your island to have fun and explore the creations and imagination of others.

We want everyone to enjoy the game, and to get excited when the turnip prices are high, so you can get rid of them or when users are doing giveaways on their island, storytelling or playing games.

Commonly asked questions

Experiencing interference.

This usually means that another user is travelling to the island at the same time. Please wait a few minutes and then try to join again.

What does FULL mean?

When you see FULL on our website it means that the island is maxed out which means unless the owner of the island posts their dodo code again, you won't be able to visit that island. We do this because some users want to have only a couple of users on their island.

What games can I create when I have vistors?

Here are a few which we've come up with:

  • Bug off - Requires a timer.
  • Who can catch the biggest fish - Requires a timer
  • Treasure Hunt
  • Island Mazes
  • Hide and Seek
  • Net hitting tag
  • Is this a pitfall seed or an item?

What should I do before opening my island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

If you have any items lying around on your island that you don't want visitors to take, make sure you pick them up and store them in your inventory. You could place a fence around these items.

The items which are affected are:

  • Items that have been dropped and not placed. This includes fossils and DYI recipes.
  • All type of fruits (Apple, Cherry, Coconuts, Orange, Peach, Pear), including the fruit still hanging on trees.
  • Star Fragments

Make sure you shake your Hardwood or Cedar Tree so you can get the two daily items that are hidden on them - your visitors could get them before you!

What can visitors do on other Animal Crossing: New Horizons islands?

  • Plant flowers
  • Shake trees
  • Dig fossils
  • Set pitfall traps

Welcome to Nintendo Support

How to back up and restore island save data (animal crossing: new horizons).

In this article, you'll learn how to enable island backup in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and how to restore your island data if your Nintendo Switch console is ever lost or damaged.

  • Island backup is a feature exclusive to Animal Crossing: New Horizons . If you have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership and are looking to restore your save data for games compatible with the Nintendo Switch Online Save Data Cloud service, see our steps on How to Download Save Data Cloud Backups .
  • Recovery is only available in situations where the source (original) Nintendo Switch console is no longer available (e.g. re-sold, traded in, lost, stolen, or damaged). A new or repaired Nintendo Switch console is required. An active Nintendo Switch Online membership is also required. In the event of loss or damage, contact Nintendo Customer Support, and a representative can help you restore the island and user save data on your new or repaired Nintendo Switch console (standard charges apply for non-warranty repairs).

If you have access to your original Nintendo Switch console and you want to transfer your island or an individual resident to a new console, you can transfer your Animal Crossing: New Horizons save data .

  • The island backup and restore features are available after installing the latest software version for the game (1.4.0 or later).
  • When enabled, island backup data is stored periodically when no one is playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons on your Nintendo Switch console and the console is connected to the internet. Island data is shared across all residents on the island.
  • After restoring island backup data, the time spent playing in your account's Play Activity may not reflect your actual total time playing the game.
  • Any Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise save data is also backed up with this feature. The DLC must be downloaded on your replacement Nintendo Switch console in order to gain access to the DLC content.

Do you want to enable island backup, restore island data that you have backed up, or disable island backup?

Enable island backup Restore island data Disable island backup

  • Use a Nintendo Account with an active Nintendo Switch Online membership.
  • Use a Nintendo Account that has a resident on the island. Each user on a Nintendo Switch console can create a resident and move to the island soon after starting the game.
  • Your Nintendo Switch console must have a stable connection to the internet.
  • Your game must be updated to the latest software version (1.4.0 or later).
  • Island backup cannot already be enabled. If any other resident on the island has already enabled island backup, you will not be able to enable it as a different resident. The original resident can disable island backup if you wish to enable it using a different account.
  • From the title screen, press the − Button to access the Settings menu.
  • If island backup cannot be enabled, it may be because your Nintendo Switch console is not currently connected to the internet or your Nintendo Account does not currently have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership.
  • After island backup is enabled, you can view the date and time of the last backup on the title screen of the game. A backup is made periodically whenever the game is not being played and the Nintendo Switch console is connected to the internet.
  • If island backup cannot be disabled, it may be because your Nintendo Switch console is not currently connected to the internet or you are not using the same Nintendo Account that was used to enable island backup.
  • After island backup is disabled, it will not be possible to restore island data in the case that your Nintendo Switch console is lost or damaged. You can re-enable island backup using a Nintendo Account that has a resident on the island and an active Nintendo Switch Online membership.

Important: Island data can only be restored if the source (original) Nintendo Switch console had island backup in Animal Crossing: New Horizons enabled for that console. It is not possible to remotely enable island backup without access to the console. You will also need a replacement console to restore the island data.

Was your console repaired by a Nintendo Service Centre?

Important: If your console was repaired, your save data may already be on the console. Open Animal Crossing: New Horizons to determine if your island appears on the title screen. If so, no further action is necessary to return to your island.

ACNH_start_black_screen.jpg

  • If you see Timmy and Tommy at the Nook Inc. reception desk, the button input failed. Close the game and reopen it to try again. Make sure you press the – Button when the Nintendo logo fades to a full black screen and before the island in the bottom-right appears.
  • If you see a title screen with villagers walking around an island, then you may have already started a new island on your Nintendo Switch console. If you wish to replace this island with your island backup data, you must first delete the new save data for Animal Crossing: New Horizons from your console, then reopen the game and try again. Your new island will not be able to be recovered after you delete the save data.
  • If island data cannot be found, it may be because your Nintendo Switch console is not currently connected to the internet or you are not using the same Nintendo Account that was used to enable island backup.
  • If you enabled island backup for multiple islands, you will be presented with each island name and some details. Select the island you wish to restore on your Nintendo Switch console.
  • If you started a new island on your Nintendo Switch console, it will be lost and replaced with your island backup.
  • After your island is restored, the game will restart. Select Close when messages appear to check for island backup data, then you will return to your island.

Were you able to restore your island?

If your island is restored, you’re all set! Check out the official Nintendo website for the latest news and games.

If you are unable to restore your island after following these steps, please contact our Customer Support : select "Gameplay Assistance" > "Animal Crossing: New Horizons". If you are already using the contact form, please select “Contact Nintendo Support”.

When and where the solar eclipse will be crossing the U.S.

The path of totality for the solar eclipse on April 8, 2024.

A total solar eclipse will grace the skies over North America on Monday, one of the most hotly anticipated sky-watching events in recent years.

Weather permitting , millions of people in Mexico, 15 U.S. states and eastern Canada will have the chance to see the moon slip between Earth and sun, temporarily blocking the sun’s light .

The total solar eclipse will be visible along a “path of totality” that measures more than 100 miles wide and extends across the continent. Along that path, the moon will fully obscure the sun, causing afternoon skies to darken for a few minutes.

Follow live updates on the solar eclipse

In all other parts of the continental U.S., a partial solar eclipse will be visible, with the moon appearing to take a bite out of the sun. Exactly how big a bite depends on the location.

The first spot in North America that will experience totality on Monday is on Mexico’s Pacific coast at around 11:07 a.m. PT, according to NASA .

After moving northeast across Mexico, the eclipse’s path travels through Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Slivers of Michigan and Tennessee will also be able to witness totality if conditions are clear.

In Canada, the eclipse will be visible in parts of southern Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton, at the eastern end of Nova Scotia.

The timing of the eclipse and the duration of totality varies by location. Most places will experience around 2 minutes of darkness, but the longest periods of totality are typically in the center of the eclipse’s path.

This year, the longest stretch of totality will last 4 minutes and 28 seconds in an area northwest of Torreón, Mexico.

The moon covers the sun during a total solar eclipse in Cerulean, Ky.

Below is a list of timings for some U.S. cities along the path of totality, according to NASA .

  • Dallas: Partial eclipse begins at 12:23 p.m. CT and totality at 1:40 p.m. CT.
  • Idabel, Oklahoma: Partial eclipse begins at 12:28 p.m. CT and totality at 1:45 p.m. CT.
  • Little Rock, Arkansas: Partial eclipse begins at 12:33 p.m. CT and totality at 1:51 p.m. CT.
  • Poplar Bluff, Missouri: Partial eclipse begins at 12:39 p.m. CT and totality at 1:56 p.m. CT.
  • Paducah, Kentucky: Partial eclipse begins at 12:42 p.m. CT and totality at 2:00 p.m. CT.
  • Carbondale, Illinois: Partial eclipse begins at 12:42 p.m. CT and totality at 1:59 p.m. CT.
  • Evansville, Indiana: Partial eclipse begins at 12:45 p.m. CT and totality at 2:02 p.m. CT.
  • Cleveland: Partial eclipse begins at 1:59 p.m. ET and totality at 3:13 p.m.
  • Erie, Pennsylvania: Partial eclipse begins at 2:02 p.m. ET and totality at 3:16 p.m. ET.
  • Buffalo, New York: Partial eclipse begins at 2:04 p.m. ET and totality at 3:18 p.m.
  • Burlington, Vermont: Partial eclipse begins at 2:14 p.m. ET and totality at 3:26 p.m. ET.
  • Lancaster, New Hampshire: Partial eclipse begins at 2:16 p.m. ET and totality at 3:27 p.m.
  • Caribou, Maine: Partial eclipse begins at 2:22 p.m. ET and totality at 3:32 p.m. ET.

Other resources can also help you figure out when the various phases of the eclipse will be visible where you live, including NationalEclipse.com and TimeandDate.com .

If you plan to watch the celestial event, remember that it’s never safe to look directly at the sun, including through binoculars, telescopes or camera lenses. Special eclipse glasses are required to safely view solar eclipses and prevent permanent eye damage.
