Babasónicos are a rock band hailing from Buenos Aires, Lanús, Argentina who were formed in 1991. They are one of the most successful Argentine rock bands to ever form and have released 11 studio albums since their debut in 1992.

You can never fault a band with ambition, and Babasónicos have far higher goals than most bands could dream of. What’s more is that they’ve achieved them, and the six-piece have gone on to become one of the most influential South American rock acts of the past three decades.. The band began with lead singer Adrián "Dárgelos" Rodríguez and keyboardist Diego "Uma-T" Tuñón, who collaborated with the intention of creating a whole new strain of Argentine rock music. Adrian and Diego recruited Dargelos’ brother Diego to play guitar, a drummer in the form of Diego "Panza" Castellano, Mariano "Roger" Domínguez joined as rhythm guitarist and Gabriel "Gabo" Manelli held everything together on the bass.

The band were a sensation right off the bat. They set themselves apart from the then practically inescapable Argentinian new wave scene from the very beginning, and touted their experimentally minded pop-rock as their own genre of “Sonic Rock”. Their debut album “Pasto” did very respectable business after its release in 1992, giving them a minor radio hit in the form of "D-Generación". After touring the record they began the campaign for their second album opening for INXS at the Vélez Sarsfield stadium, their biggest concert to date at the time which opened up a whole new audience to them. Their second effort “Trance Zomba” was massively acclaimed and broke the band through to the big leagues as a result.

Since then the band have remained one of the most respected acts in Argentine rock, collaborating with Stone Roses legend Ian Bron on one of his solo records and opening for the mighty U2 on their PopMart stadium tour before the1990’s were out. The 2000’s treated them even better, with 2001’s “Jessico” record breaking them through to become one of their home country’s most beloved bands, but tragedy would soon strike. Manelli passed away in 2008 due to Hodgkin’s Disease, but he was replaced by the band’s longtime backing musician Carlos Hernán Clunkers and the bands live shows were rejuvenated by the spirit of their lost friend.

With a back catalogue that most bands would kill for, a devoted fanbase and some of the most adept live shows around, Babasónicos come highly recommended.

Live reviews

Argentine psychedelic rock band, Babasonicos is the main event tonight, with punters in this huge venue from all over the world, here and ready to experience this huge “sonic” underground rock movement that they made such a name for themselves with. Their name is at is brightest amongst the Latin American crowd, which is quite a crowd to be acquainted with indeed. Tonight they have a discography of eleven studio albums to choose from, focusing a little more on their later material, they launch into the upbeat “Ideas”, which inspires the most amazing Argentine styles of dancing I have ever seen in an audience. We need to do this more in the indie rock scene for sure! “Barranca abajo” sets the party off with everyone jumping up and down, drink are flying everywhere.

When they play their song “Zumba” it literally feel as thought everyone took it so literally, with the synchronized dancing happening this evening, it just makes you want to join in making those who don’t join in the absolute minority.

Shakira

Shakira did not lie when she announced on social media: “se viene la loba” (the she wolf is coming). The Colombian superstar unveiled the dates to the North American leg of her 2024 Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour on Tuesday (April 16), just on the heels of revealing the big news during her surprise stop at Coachella over the weekend.

The tour, in support of her new album of the same name, will kick off Nov. 2 in Palm Desert, California, and wrap on Dec. 15 in Detroit, Michigan. During the 14-arena trek, she will also visit Los Angeles, Miami, and New York City, to name a few. (Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. local time on April 22, here ).

Shakira first shared the news on Friday (April 12) at Coachella, where she was a surprise guest during Bizarrap’s debut performance. Right after performing “La Fuerte” and before singing “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” (her two collaborative efforts with the Argentine hitmaker), she said:  “I have to share something today. Biza, I’m going on tour. I’m going on tour, finally…starting here, this November, this year, this city. I can’t wait. Couldn’t ask for more.”

The tour — which marks her first since her 2018 El Dorado World Tour — is in support of her 12th studio album, which debuted at No. 1 on the Top Latin Albums and Latin Pop Albums charts (dated April 6), as well as No. 13 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart.

As we patiently wait for the fall to come around, Billboard has curated five things we would like to see on Shakira’s new tour.

The Grand Opening

Shakira

If “La Loba se viene” is any indication, it only makes sense that Shakira starts off her concerts performing a bilingual version of “Loba” (“She Wolf”). Her 2009 banger, which entered many Billboard charts, including the Hot 100, Hot Latin Songs and Tropical Songs, is the ultimate dance track perfect to set the mood for the rest of the night. “She Wolf” also represents what Shakira embodies: a woman with strong family values, resilience and strength. Now, if she can arrive singing the song on top of a large wolf on the stage — that’d be extra epic!

The 1990s Medley

Shakira

It’s no surprise that Shakira will perform all of her latest hits live for the first time. We’re expecting to sing and dance to songs such as “Te Felicito,” “Monotonía,” “Copa Vacía,” and “Puntería” — all from her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran album. But we’re also hoping for a ride down memory lane.

We’re specifically crossing fingers for a throwback medley set — where she will perform some of her melancholy rock tunes from the ‘90s. Our dream version of it would include “Ciega, Sordomuda,” “Ojos Así,” “Estoy Aquí,” “Inevitable,” and “Antologia,” to name a few.

Surprise Guests

Shakira and Cardi B

Now, we know Shakira can dominate the stage and sell out arenas on her own, but it would also be nice to see her bring out some surprise guests. Some we would especially like to see her join the stage are Alejandro Sanz, for an epic performance of “La Tortura” and “Te Lo Agradezco Pero No,” Karol G for the ultra-powerful “TQG,” Cardi B for their flirtatious and feel-good “Puntería” — and why not? Beyoncé (“Beautiful Liar”) and/or Rihanna (“Can’t Remember to Forget You”) as well.

Her Talented Offspring

Shakira

Another sweet moment on the tour would be if Shakira invites her talented sons onstage. The two boys first showed off their singing skills on the heartfelt tune “Acróstico” (third single off Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran ), where they collaborated with their mom. Her older son, Milan, has also been spotted on social media performing with his school band, where he plays the drums.

The Grand Finale

Bizarrap, Shakira

And, because Shakira made her tour announcement during Bizarrap’s Coachella set, it only makes sense that she invites him on stage (if possible for the entire tour) to close off the show with their 2023 banger “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53.” The track peaked at No. 9 on the Hot 100 and landed at No. 2 on both the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts. It also ruled the Hot Latin Songs chart, scoring Shakira her 12th leader on the tally.

Tiny Desk Premiere: Lise Davidsen

Tom Huizenga

Tom Huizenga

I knew we were in for something spectacular when the Norwegian soprano Lise Davidsen came to our Tiny Desk — especially when she could be heard, loud and clear, from far down the hall, warming up in our green room. Once she got to the Desk itself, to rehearse with pianist and Metropolitan Opera assistant conductor Bryan Wagorn, the sublime amplitude of her extraordinary voice rendered the space even tinier.

From Norway With Horsepower: Soprano Lise Davidsen Is Conquering Opera

Deceptive Cadence

From norway with horsepower: soprano lise davidsen is conquering opera.

Davidsen's voice, which is incongruously gigantic and intimate, has been called "one-in-a-million." I was completely sold on the hype after only a few seconds of singing. A couple of us reached for tissues to wipe away tears of disbelief. The voice gleams like pure polished silver, powerful enough to surge past massive orchestras and yet capable of paring down to a single silvery strand of tone, perfectly supported to reach the rafters.

It's all the more remarkable since Davidsen was already in her 20s before she saw an opera for the first time. Her warp-speed rise has taken her from a small town in Norway, where she played handball and strummed her guitar, to starring roles at the world's finest stages.

She begins her set with Desdemona's quiet supplication from Verdi 's Otello . It's a prayer for the troubles of the world today, she explains. A moody song of unrequited love by her compatriot Edvard Grieg follows. And, saving the money notes for last, Davidsen closes with a rambunctious czardas from Die Csárdásfürstin . Notice the subtlety of phrasing when she extends the word "Heimatland" beautifully in the opening verse. She caps the aria with an electrifying high C. The audience, appropriately, goes nuts.

With a little luck and scrupulous care for her voice, Davidsen, only 37, is poised for a career we will be talking about for decades to come.

  • Giuseppe Verdi: "Ave Maria" from Otello
  • Edvard Grieg: "Zur Rosenzeit," Op. 48, No. 5
  • Emmerich Kálmán: "Heia, in den Bergen" from Die Csárdásfürstin
  • Lise Davidsen: soprano
  • Bryan Wagorn: piano

Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band at JMA Dome in Syracuse: Concert set list, photos

  • Updated: Apr. 19, 2024, 6:33 a.m. |
  • Published: Apr. 18, 2024, 11:11 p.m.

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, N.Y., mixing a few surprises in with their many hits and fan favorites.

Some 30,000 fans cheered on The Boss and sang along to classics like “Hungry Heart,” “Born to Run,” and “Thunder Road.” Springsteen also acquiesced to sign requests for “Growin’ Up” and “Twist & Shout.”

According to a printed out setlist , Springsteen initially considered playing “Prove It All Night,” “I’m On Fire,” “Letter to You,” “Racing In the Street,” and “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight),” but “My City of Ruins” was chosen in place of “Racing,” “Prove It All Night” (from “Darkness on the Edge of Town”) was swapped for “Night” (from “Born to Run”), and “Growin’ Up” replaced “Letter to You.” The other tracks may have been cut due to a late start for the concert of 7:50 p.m., as some fans were still entering the Dome after 7:30.

The show lasted two hours and fifty minutes, with almost no pauses between songs. Springsteen wrapped at 10:40 p.m. with a solo acoustic performance of “I’ll See You In My Dreams.”

Maynard James Keenan's Sessanta setlist: What A Perfect Circle, Puscifer and Primus played

babasonicos tour setlist

Maynard James Keenan made a solid case for turning 60 as the new “you won’t believe what happens next” when the Sessanta Tour hit Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre in Phoenix on Tuesday, April 16, for a two-night stand, the second night of which falls on his actual 60th birthday.

The premise of the tour is that members of A Perfect Circle, Puscifer and Primus will not only share a stage but also musicians as the night unfolds, resulting in some truly awe-inspiring feats of musical cross-pollination.

Keenan, who launched his career in the ‘90s as the voice of Tool, is the singer for two of those bands, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. He’s friends with Primus, whose drummer, Tim Alexander, convinced him to give Jerome, Arizona, his home of many years, a look when he was in the market for a new home in the ‘90s.

Shakira announces 2024 U.S. tour. Get tickets today

The “She Wolf” is coming out of her cage.

For the first time since 2018, Shakira will officially tour North America as part of her upcoming ‘LAS MUJERES YA NO LLORAN WORLD TOUR’ (which translates to “women no longer cry”).

Midway through the 14-concert run, the three-time Grammy winner is scheduled to stop in at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Thursday, Dec. 5.

At all shows, fans can expect to hear cuts from the Colombian icon’s recently released album that shares a name with the tour.

Hits like “Hips Don’t Lie,” “Whenever, Wherever,” and “Dia De Enero” will likely sneak into the setlist as well.

For those who can’t wait to get their hands on tickets, they can be secured as soon as today.

Although inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster until Monday, April 22, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can purchase on sites like Vivid Seats before tickets are officially on sale.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

A complete calendar including all tour dates, venues, and links to buy tickets can be found below.

On March 22, Shakira released her 12th studio album “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.”

Comprised of 17 tracks featuring big-name collaborators like Cardi B, Bizarrap, Grupo Frontera, Rauw Alejandro, and Ozuna among others, the 47-year-old songstress sticks to español this time around. However, whether or not you speak Spanish is beside the point; Shakira’s music this time around is so catchy that you won’t mind looking up what the lyrics mean on Google Translate.

Highlights include the dance floor-ready hit “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53,” the infectious mariachi-inspired “El Jefe” with Fuerza Regida, and the icy “TQG” featuring Karol G.

While the whole album slaps, we’d be remiss if we didn’t shout our favorite track: the disco-flavored “Cohete.” We can’t stop listening.

Want to check it out for yourself? You can find “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” here .

Prior to announcing the tour, Shakira surprised the crowd at at Coachella on Friday, April 12 when she performed “La Fuerte” and “BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 53” alongside Bizzarap.

A raucous fan video can be seen here:

Many Latin icons are on the road all year long.

Here are just five of our favorites you won’t want to miss live.
