Whale & Dolphin Cruises Offered Year Around

Offered are a Blue whale and Grey whale and dolphin watching year round with departures at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. daily. Tours are three-and-a-half hours long and include a video and whale exhibits featuring fossils. Cost is ($43) weekdays and ($48) weekends for adults; seniors and military receive ($2) off; and ($21) weekdays and ($24) weekends for children 4–17. Children under 3 are admitted free. The Best of the Bay Ninety-Minute Harbor Tour is a longer, more elaborate version of the north harbor tour described above. During this scenic cruise, you’ll cover a whopping 20 miles of scenery while enjoying remarkable views of over 50 famous San Diego landmarks, including the downtown skyline, Shelter Island, Seaport Village , and Coronado Island —just to name a few. And, since this is San Diego Bay, you never know just what kind of wildlife you might encounter, so you’ll want to have your phone and/or camera always at the ready! The Best of the Bay Tour departs twice a day, with tickets costing roughly $35 for adults, $18 for kids 4 through 12, and nothing for little ones who are 3 or under.

Hornblower Cruises offers unique varieties of the Whale & Dolphin Watching Adventure tour throughout the calendar year. During the summertime, the focus will be on catching a glimpse of the majestic blue whale, while the winter months will provide the best opportunity to view the distinctive gray whale. Regardless of the season, this three-and-a-half hour live-narrated tour will afford you the chance to see the many wonders of the open ocean, including sea creatures like fin whales, dolphins, sea lions, and more. • Though most known for their cruise tours, Hornblower also offers two different guided Segway tours. There’s a two-and-a-half hour outing that takes you through downtown San Diego and Balboa Park , and a one-and-a-half hour excursion that covers the Embarcadero and Gaslamp Quarter . Both tours cost about $50 regardless of your age.

• Hornblower Cruises also coordinate a variety of package deals that allow you to combine a harbor tour with admission to the world-famous San Diego Zoo and a one-day pass for the hop-on, hop-off Old Town Trolley . If you're not sure if cruising is right for you, how about a two-hour sampling? Hornblower Cruises offers sailings out of seven California cities — San Diego, San Francisco, Sacramento, Berkeley, Marina del Rey, Newport Beach and Long Beach — as well as New York City, and you can choose from a variety of cruises: whale watching, lobster dinners and my favorite ... brunch!

Looking for a great last-minute Father's Day idea? Treat dear old Dad to a Hornblower brunch cruise on June 16. Or celebrate just about any holiday or occasion. Turn off the grill and set a course with the family to a Hornblower harbor.

Not long ago I was invited to take part in a champagne brunch cruise that departed from the cruise ship terminal in San Diego Harbor. 

The cruise started out with an open buffet, which stayed open the majority of the cruise. The crew offered us champagne throughout the entire sailing, too. The morning voyage took us around San Diego, under the Coronado Bridge, around Seaport Village and alongside the skyline for ideal photos. We returned to the dock after two hours of sailing.

The Hornblower Cruises are perfect for locals looking for a unique way to experience  San Diego  or any of the other ports that the company serves.

Options? You might want to organize a friends get-together or girlfriends getaway, a birthday — the birthday guy or gal cruises for free! — or a romantic date, which is what Preston and I did. Other ideas include wedding cruises, private dinners, graduation celebrations, engagement parties, bachelorette parties and more. Plus, it's ideal for special occasions such as Father's Day, Mother's Day, Valentine's Day and a host of holidays. 

For San Diegans who love to sail and cruise, this is the perfect way to spend an afternoon! My favorite part of the cruise were the photo opportunities that you can't capture from land.

The Hornblower is ideal for travelers in San Diego to be able to experience an activity on the water, which is what we locals are so well known for! Located less than a mile from the airport and cruise terminal, this is the perfect activity to do right when you arrive, or right before you are on your way out. With a variety of cruise options, there's something for everyone.

The San Francisco cruises are similar to the San Diego cruises with champagne brunch and dinner sailings. Marina Del Rey offers cruises not just on special occasions (Father's Day, July 4th) but with weekend brunch and dinner cruises. New York  offers city sightseeing tours, dinner cruises, New York light cruises and even after-work happy hour cruises. Plus, you can now find Hornblower cruises out of Newport Beach, Long Beach, Berkeley and Sacramento. 

It's a short, fun experience to enjoy with family or friends, so check it out!

Boarding time is 30 minutes prior to departure.

Is smoking allowed?

Smoking is prohibited in all areas on board. Also, cannabis products are not allowed as the vessel operates under US Coast Guard and Transport Canada regulations.

Is there pre-assigned seating for this dinner cruise?

As you board, the captain and marine crew will direct you to your deck. From there the host/hostess will show your party to your assigned table(s). Seats are assigned based on the needs and capacity for each cruise.

Are there vegetarian options available for dinner cruises? Can I make a special menu request?

Vegetarian meals are available and can be arranged at the time of booking. If you have a group have dietary restrictions, please make a note in the "Have Special Needs" comment box when booking your tickets.

When does the meal begin?

Dinner service begins immediately upon embarking.

Can I bring cakes and flowers on board?

Cakes may be brought on board, however, you will be charged a cake cutting fee. Small flower bouquets are also permitted. Please keep in mind you are on a ship, so top heavy arrangements will not be stable. Unfortunately, early boarding is not available.

Are life preservers on board?

Each vessel is 100% Coast Guard certified with life preservers and all required lifesaving equipment, including child life vests.

Is the ship wheelchair accessible?

This cruise is not wheelchair accessible.

What happens if it rains or snow?

The Marina del Rey Premier Dinner Cruise sails rain or shine. In the case of severe weather conditions or upon the direction of the U.S. Coast Guard, the vessel will remain dockside, but provide the full dining service.

Is gratuity included?

Gratuities are not included. If you wish to purchase additional beverages or food enhancements onboard, they recommend you leave a gratuity onboard based on the quality of service provided to you by your server.
