Two New Tours of the Caltech Campus
Caltech has developed two new tours to help people on and off campus get to know the lay of the land and learn about different aspects of the community.
For those who are physically on campus, a new walking tour brochure offers an introduction to the buildings and other spaces that make up the Institute. On this 60-minute self-guided walking tour, visitors (and readers online) can learn more about Caltech's history, study examples of noteworthy campus architecture, get a glimpse of student life, and explore some of the groundbreaking investigations being conducted here.
In addition, a new online interactive tour allows those off campus to make a virtual visit to Caltech and learn about some of the places that are integral to the community, such as the Athenaeum, the Beckman Institute and Gene Pool, and the Turtle Pond, through a sequence of 13 captioned 360-degree photographs.
NOTE: Google shut down Poly on June 30, 2021. As a result, the online interactive tour is no longer available.

California Institute of Technology Virtual Tour
Are you considering caltech take a virtual tour of the campus below..
A visit to California Institute of Technology is ideal, but virtual tours can act to refresh your memory or as a preview for your on-site tour.
What's in it for me?
Inevitably, on-campus tours of classrooms, libraries, dorms, and dining halls will start to blend. Jog your memory using the virtual tour and even explore the area surrounding the campus using the interactive mapping tool. If you're just beginning your college search, a virtual tour can be a great way to get a feel for a campus before your visit. Remember, when you do go, be sure to ask current students about their college life. A student perspective can be the most helpful way to gauge your future experience at Caltech.
Use the resources below to start your virtual tour.
Using the Map
Click and drag the little orange person to a location on the map. Locations with panoramas appear as blue lines or blue dots when moving the orange person. The blue dots are panoramic views that you may swivel. The blue lines are paths that you can navigate along.
Panoramic View
You can "pan" or "swivel" the camera around by clicking on the image and dragging your mouse or finger. If you see a white arrow on the picture, you can click or tap on it to move in the direction of the arrow. This will also update the location of the little orange person on the map so you can get a better sense of where you are and what direction you are facing.

Tours led by the Caltech History and Architectural Tour Service
The Caltech History and Architectural Tour Service, a program of the Caltech Women's Club, offers public, in-depth campus tours about once a month, with the next ones coming up on these anticipated dates . Find out how Caltech's unique academic buildings and high-tech laboratories inform research and discovery, as well as enrich the greater Pasadena community. Some guides are bilingual; please email the guides to request a tour in Spanish .
Tours for high school and college students
High school and college students who are considering enrolling at Caltech, as well as groups of 10 to 49 students and family members, can find tour information on Caltech's admissions website . Prospective students, their parents and guardians, and others also can explore Caltech through a virtual tour developed by the admissions department.

Palomar Observatory Virtual Tour
Thanks to the technology of spherical (360°) panoramic imagery, we are able to offer a bilingual, high-resolution, virtual reality (VR)-enabled tour of over a dozen locations within Palomar Observatory including the three main telescopes, the Visitor Center, and selected areas around the domes including several inaccessible to the public.
We recommend viewing the virtual tour on a desktop or laptop in fullscreen mode using the icon in the control bar. While it is possible to view the tour in smaller screens (e.g., large tablets), we suggest using the "lite" version of the tour for screens narrower than 700px (e.g, smaller tablets and smartphones). The lite tour is also VR-enabled, but lacks many of the features found in the full version of the tour. Click here to load the full tour.
Below are several entry points to the virtual tour. Once inside, it is possible to navigate to any of the locations via the drop down menu on the top left without exiting the tour. To look around, drag (click and move while holding) the cursor across the image. Alternatively, click inside the tour window and use your keyboard arrows to move in small steps. Icons superimposed on the panoramic images allow for navigation to other locations as well as bring up more information, images, and videos. The language switch is on the top right. Further instructions and FAQ may be found in the help page brought up by clicking the icon in the control bar.

The college campus represents so much more than an arrangement of land and buildings. As courses continue to move online, how can we support and extend our learning community beyond the classroom? What aspects of a student's college experience are now missing now that we are all at home? How can we use digital software, multiplayer interactions, and accessible social platforms to challenge existing campus models and collegiate histories, and imagine new spaces and events needed within higher education now? In collaboration with Caltech, we will use the online platform Second Life to concept, collaborate, design, and build a shared virtual campus.
How do you design spaces of learning within an online multiplayer platform? What can you learn within these virtual spaces? And how do you leverage the imaginative opportunities these spaces and people within them provide?
Students will learn the history of higher education and the collegiate campus, conduct online interviews, and use 3d modeling tools to launch their work within Second Life and learn from their results. Students will
- Create, test, and launch a virtual space,
- Give public tours (live streams), and
- Author a video trailer that highlights key features of the space, utilizing communication strategies such as tropes from: the traveling industry, tourism, and real estate.
World / Europe / Russia / Moscow City Center, Kremlin
Moscow City Center, Kremlin
The treasury of our Moscow panoramas is gradually increasing.
We have already been shooting aerial panoramas for 6 years. During this period of time we shot many interesting cities of the world: New York, Amsterdam, Kuala Lumpur, Sidney, Miami, Las Vegas, Rio de Janeiro, Dubai, Los Angeles and many others. However, we didn't succeed in shooting Moscow, the city we live in, though we did our best. The case is the flights over Moscow are forbidden except those of Russian Federation Ministry of Civil Defense and Emergency Response and Russian police. Taking in consideration these administrative restrictions we applied our creativity and resolved this problem by the following:
1) We made a virtual tour over Moscow Encircling Highway : MEH and Interchanges
2) Yauza, Ramenki, Southern Port
3) In May 2010 near the Crocus-City the first in the world 1 gig pixel panorama was shot from the helicopter. It shows the Kremlin, the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, Novodevichiy Convent, the TV Tower of Ostankino and many other places of interest.
4) This sphere shot from the height of 1000 m which shows most part of Moscow and regions.
5) Last spring we have shot the panorama of Novodevichiy Convent
6) We have done a virtual tour over Moscow State University
7) Earlier this year we have done a fabulous panoramas of Moscow City business center
8) One of Moscow City panoramas has been converted into stereo format
9) We have created a giga pixel panorama of the center of Moscow
Also it is worth to view one of the photos by Sergey Semenov devoted to the rehearsal of the Victory Parade of May 9.
It had success on the exhibition World Seen by the Russians held in Moscow, on Tverskoy Boulevard in May-June 2011.
And now we would like to introduce a virtual tour around Moscow Kremlin.
