In general, Moon in Aswini, Rohini, Mrigasira, Punarvasu, Pushyami, Magha, Hasta, Anuradha, Moola, Sravana, Dhanishta, Uttarabhadra, Revathi are considered as best nakshatra days for travel. And, during waxing period of moon (between newmoon and fullmoon days) : 2,3,5,7,10,11,13 lunar days are considered auspicious. Other days are discarded for long distance and business travel. Also, suitable Ascendants (rising signs) and lunar days (tithis) have been prescribed for travel in certain directions. These combination days can be picked for successful journey and expected results. In case of emergencies and short distance travel (within a distance from where you can return and reach back home on same day), these rules and below table need not be considered.

Weekdays, Nakshatras, Ascendants and Lunar days (tithis) NOT suitable for Travel in particular directions

  • Towards East : Lunar days 1 and 9, Monday, Saturday in weekdays, Moon in Jyeshta and Dhanishta nakshatras, Ascendants of Libra and Aquarius are not suitable.
  • Towards North-East : 8th Lunar day (Ashtami) and Newmoon day, Wednesday, Gemini Ascendant are not suitable.

  • Towards North-West : 7th Lunar day (Saptami) and Fullmoon day, Sunday and Tuesday in weekdays, Aries Ascendant are not suitable.
  • Towards West : Lunar days 6 and 14, Sunday and Friday in weekdays, Moon in Rohini and Pushyami nakshatras, Ascendants of Leo and Sagittarius are not suitable.
  • Towards South-West : Lunar days 4 and 12, Monday and Friday in weekdays, Cancer Ascendant are not suitable.
  • Towards South : Lunar days 5 and 13, Thursday in weekdays, Moon in Aswini and Sravana nakshatras, Ascendants of Scorpio and Pisces are not suitable.
  • Towards South-East : Lunar days 3 and 11, Thursday and Saturday in weekdays, Capricorn Ascendant are not suitable.

Above conditions need to checked only if planning a pleasure trip liesurely. If travel is urgent and cannot be avoided, then starting at home between 4 AM and Sunrise is best possible time to travel in any direction on anyday.

However, travelling in these combinations of weekdays and transit nakshatras of moon have been found to give accurate results and they can be experienced within the number of days (given in last colum) from the commencement of journey.

Travel check table with combination of Weekdays and Nakshatras

Abhijit (Meaning : Victorious, One who cannot be defeated) is the Sanskrit name for Vega , starts from 06° 40′ to 10° 53′ 20 in sidereal Capricorn i.e. from the last quarter of nakshatra Uttara Ashādhā to first 1/15 th part of Shravana. It is not a regular nakshatra with four padas or quarters, it serves as an intercalary asterism most of the times. It is not mentioned as frequently as other asterisms in mythology. Moon or Chandra is said to have 27 (not 28) wives with whom he stays for one day in a sidereal lunar month. Each of the 27 asterisms is feminine, only Abhijit is masculine. Moon transiting in Abhijit Nakshatra is an auspicious time according to the Hindu Calendar. Abhijit Star fell from pole position in about 16000 BC. That was the period of rains when the Sun was in Dhanishthaa. Thus, the year started with Varshaa (rains), so year was called Varsh.

Legend : P.Phalguni : Poorvaphalguni, U.Phalguni : Uttaraphalguni, P.Shada : Poorvashada, U.Shada : Uttarashada, P.Bhadra : Poorvabhadra, U.Bhadra : Uttarabhadra.

NOTE : Vedic weekday starts from sunrise and one needs to look at moon’s nakshatra at exact time of start of travel. For example : If you are travelling at 6:05 AM on wednesday, moon was in Hastha nakshatra till 6:25 AM and local sunrise time was 6:20 AM, then you need to consider that Your travel started on tuesday under Hastha nakshatra and result would be Comforts . But if you started at 6:21 AM, then it would be combination of wednesday and Hastha nakshatra and your result will be Happy, Victory . And if your journey starts at 6:26 AM on same day, then it would be combination of wednesday and Chitra nakshatra and result will be Fear of Death, Accidents .

can we travel on padyami

Are you wondering if Padyami is good or bad? Let’s find out.

Padyami tithi is a very important day for every Hindu. It is the day when the moon is at its new phase. The significance of this day depends on which astrological sign you are born under. There are many myths and stories associated with Padyami tithi. Some people believe that this is a good day while others think it is a bad day.

What Padyami tithi means

Padyami means “the opening of the door” or “the door to the new year” in Sanskrit. The word Padam means “lotus” in Sanskrit because lotuses flower during the spring season. So when we talk about Padyami, we refer to its significance as an auspicious day for starting new projects or beginning something new.

When is Padyami

Padyami takes place between January 19 and February 11 every year. This period starts from sunrise on December 21 until sunrise on January 20th next year. Padyami is a very auspicious day of the year and everyone feels great on this special day. Hindus offer prayers to Goddess Ganga, Lord Vishnu, and other Gods to seek blessings. The 12 zodiac signs also get a new cycle of twelve years during Padyami tithi. Padyami tithi is a period when the sun is in its decline. It is considered a bad time to start or end any endeavour, as it is believed that the sun will be in its decline during this time. The most important thing to remember during padyami tithi is that it will not be long before the sun returns to its zenith and everything begins anew.

Effects of good and bad Padyami

This period has many significant effects on people's lives, both positive and negative. For example, if you are working on something that requires your attention, it might be best for you to wait until Padyami tithi has passed before starting your project. If you are planning on giving a speech or presentation at school, then you should avoid doing so during padyami tithi because it could negatively affect your performance by making you feel sleepy or drained.

This period can have several different effects on people, including positive and negative ones. For example, if you are working on anything that requires your attention, it might be best to wait until the Padyami tithi period has passed before starting your project. If you are planning on giving a speech in school, then you should avoid doing so during the Padyami tithi period because it could negatively affect your performance by making you feel sleepy or drained. Padyami Tithi is a time when the sun begins to give way.

At this time of the year, it is believed that you should not start anything big or finish any big tasks as the sun will be on its way out and your project could suffer from bad luck upon completion. Padyami tithi is a special day in the Hindu calendar. During this time, it is believed that the divine mother, Amba (also known as Parvati), visits the earth and blesses all. This blessing is called "Padyami", which means "the mother who has arrived".

Significance of Padyami

The significance of Padyami tithi is that it marks when Amba returns to her home in heaven after bathing in the waters below Mount Kailasha. It is also said to be the time when she releases all of her good deeds on earth. As such, people are encouraged to conduct themselves with kindness during this time.

The significance of padyami is significant because it falls on the first day of the waxing moon in Shukla paksha (waxing phase)Padyami Tithi is a day in the Hindu calendar that signifies the end of summer and the beginning of autumn. It is also known as Chaitra Paksha Chaturdashi or simply Chaitra. It falls on the first day of the bright half (Vrichika) of Chaitra month in the lunar calendar.

Padyami has been considered one of the most important days for Hindus because it marks an auspicious start to a new year or month. The pujas and rituals performed during this time are meant to bring about peace and prosperity for all beings on earth.

During this time, one should not eat meat, fish, or eggs if they are not prepared correctly. They should also avoid eating anything that has been cooked on a fire or cooked in the sun (such as roti, parathas, and dosa). This includes vegetables that have been cooked in oil or ghee. One should also avoid bathing during Padyami, as it can cause harm to your body.

What Vedic Astrology Says about Favourable Day to Travel

Favorable Day to Travel

Travel has become an essential part of our life. We travel for various purposes, including for livelihood, leisure, and other purposes. Though in recent times, travel has been less due to the pandemic, the urge to pack your bags and set off on a journey is a familiar feeling among everyone. Travelling gives us various experiences, some good some bad. While we reminisce the good times, the bad experiences too are etched in our minds, and we often wonder what could have been the reason behind those unpleasant experiences.

Indian Vedic astrology has depicted that planetary movements and time play a significant role while traveling. If you travel according to the Vedic astrology tenets, you can make your travel fruitful and enjoyable and also achieve the purpose for which we have set out on our journey.

What should be considered for travelling Muhurat

Just as the shastras state how different days are ruled by various deities, traveling too depends on the time of travel. To determine the time or Muhurat for travelling we take into account the purpose of travel and the travel distance. Also, the means of travel, such as travel by air, sea route, road, or railways, should be considered. If we are travelling for our daily needs, such as a job or other personal requirements, we usually do not consider any Muhurat. The travel day holds significance in the Panchang in Vedic Astrology which is based on the following parameters:

  • Tithi- Lunar Date
  • Nakshatra- Lunar Constellations
  • Yoga- Classification of Time as Auspicious or Inauspicious
  • Karana- Semi or Half a Tithi
  • Muhurat is the favourable or unfavourable time or period that occurs as per different states of Panchang parameters at any given point.

Ideal Nakshatras (stars) for travel

At the onset, we consider the star prevailing on the day of travel. Travelling on Hast, Ashwini, Pushya, Mragshira, Revathi, Anuradha, Punarvasu, Shravan, and Ghanishtha star constellations will yield promising outcomes from your travel as these are the ideal days of travel. Besides these nakshatras, you can also travel in  Uttrafalguni, Uttrashadha, Uttrabhadrapad Nakshatras; however, these days are considered medium or madhyama as they yield a satisfactory outcome from travel. One should ideally avoid travelling in the JanmaNakshatra (birth star) that they are born in.It would help if you did not travel in the first, third, fifth, seventh, tenth, twelfth, fourteenth, sixteenth, nineteenth, twenty-first, twenty-third, and twenty-fifth Nakshatra from your janmanakshatra.

NakshatraShoola

According to Vedic astrology, each Nakshatra has its own direction. Travelling in the direction of the Nakshatra present on that day is best avoided. For example:

  • One should avoid travelling in the East direction as it is the direction of JyeshtaNakshatra.
  • Similarly, Purvabhadrapad is situated in the south direction, and hence travelling to the south during this Nakshatra should be avoided.
  • Travelling to the West is best avoided on RohiniNakshatra as the West is the direction of Rohini.
  • North is the direction of UttarafalguniNakshatra, hence travelling in the north direction in UttarafalguniNakshatra should be avoided.
  • Travelling to the east should be avoided forUttaraAshadha and Shravananakshatras.
  • UttaraBhādrapadāandAswini are not suitable while travelling to the south
  • Rohini and Pushya are not suitable while travelling to the West
  • UttaraPhalguni and Hasta are inauspicious for travelling to north

Tithi Consideration

Travelling during the waxing period of the moon (i.e. between New moon and Full moon days) which are the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th, 11th, 13th, lunar days are considered auspicious for long-distance and business-related travel.

If Vishti Karana is present, it signifies Bhadradosha, and hence travels must be avoided during such a situation.

The best days to travel are Thursdays and Fridays. Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday are considered medium for travelling. According to astrologers, Tuesday and Saturday are inauspicious for travellingas they belong to Agnikone and Vayukone respectively. Women should ideally avoid travelling on Fridays. One should ideally avoid returning home on the 9th day and 9th  month from the travel date as well as on Tuesdays.

It is necessary to avoid vaarshoola while planning your travel and considering the travel Muhurat. The following are the rules considered for avoiding vaarshoola

Avoid travelling East  on Sundays

Avoid travelling towards Agnikne on Tuesdays

Avoid travelling South on Thursdays

Avoid travelling towards NirryathionWednesdays

Avoid travelling West on Fridays

Avoid travelling in the direction of Vayukoneon Saturdays

Avoid travelling to the North on Mondays

If travel is urgent and cannot be avoided, then starting your journey between 4 AM and sunrise is the ideal time to travel in any direction on any day. During such travelling, worshipping Sun God and reciting Shakunasookta and Panchakshara ( Om NamaShivaaya ) will avoid any untoward incidents while travelling.

While travelling, one should also consider the yogas applicable on the day of travel. Avoiding travel is ideal for the following inauspicious yogas:

  • Vyatipaat yoga
  • Mrityu Yoga
  • Dagadh Yoga
  • Kakrach Yoga
  • Samvartak Yoga
  • Hutasan Yoga
  • Yamghant Yoga

To analyse the time of travel, the day of travel plays a vital role in determining the Muhurat for travel and various other ceremonial rituals.

All said, sometimes we may have to undertake travel due to some unavoidable reasons, and in such cases, if we are travelling in the direction of Dishashool, we can adopt specific remedial measures that are approved by Vedic astrology before travelling to nullify the hurdles and obstacles that the Dishashool may pose. Various astrology companies in India are now making Vedic astrology easy and accessible for the common man to determine the muhuratsat the press of a button.

Amavasya and Purnima Days Importance: Do and Don’t on These Days

Introduction.

Celestial bodies have always been of great importance to many religions across the globe. Hinduism is no different in this aspect. For centuries, the astrological forecast and a few rituals in Hinduism have been based on the positioning of these celestial bodies and their collective influence on this world. Moon is one such celestial body that is important to Hinduism. There are beliefs and rituals centered around the waning and waxing qualities (Amavasya and Purnima days) of the moon. When the moon appears in its full glory, it is called Purnima and Amavasya when the moon is not fully visible. This is called the lunar cycle, which repeats itself every month.

Purnima and Amavasya Days

Purnima is a word derived from Sanskrit, which translates to a full moon. It is a tithi when the moon is at its full glory. It is a time of festivities and celebrations. A lot of Hindu festivals are around Purnima. Similarly, the word Amavasya comes from Sanskrit and refers to the lunar phase of a new moon. The Hindu calendar has 30 such lunar phases, and these phases are called tithis. It is believed that the evil forces are at their peak during Amavasya, and hence most of the Amavasyas are considered inauspicious except Karthika Amavasya, which occurs during Diwali. However, Amavasya is deemed to be a very auspicious time to remember and offer prayers to the forefathers.

Do’s and Don’ts on Amavasya and Purnima Days

What not to do on Amavasya Day?

Days with religious significance have their own set of rules. Amavasya is one of the many such days which holds a significant place in Hinduism. It is a day dedicated to ‘ pitru ‘. As per the customs and culture, a few activities are considered inauspicious during Amavasya.

Of the many things, the first is a broom. One is advised not to purchase a broom on the day of Amavasya. It is believed that purchasing a broom will upset Goddess Laxmi. This will stop the flow of wealth in the house. It also invites negative energy in the house that eventually disturbs the health and wealth of the family. The second is intoxication. One should refrain from buying or having alcohol on the day of Amavasya. Consuming alcohol will invite negative energy, which can haunt the person and the family for a long time. Other activities to avoid includes eating non-vegetarian, purchasing pooja items , purchasing food grains & flours, plucking basil (tulsi) leaves, marriages, and other auspicious ceremonies.

What should we do on Amavasya?

Hindu customary rituals also speak of the activities that one can perform on the day of Amavasya to get rid of negative energies and hardships. Since it is a day dedicated to ‘pitru’, one should therefore perform Shradh to offer prayers to the dead family members and take their blessings. Secondly, planting trees and plants is also considered an auspicious act. Next is, making generous donations to someone in need. This attracts positive energy. Also, it is believed that feeding five different fruits to cows and wheat flour balls to fish will usher good karma and prosperity in life. Meanwhile, some people also observe fasting on Amavasya to please the ancestors and gain good fortune.

Which god to worship on Amavasya?

Amavasya is considered a night when the evil spirits are the strongest. For this reason, no auspicious activity is performed on Amavasya. The belief is that if we start something new on this day, we might never get success in it. Goddess Kali and Lord Shiva are worshiped on this day to destroy the evil energies.

What to do and not to do on Purnima Day?

Purnima holds a notable place in Hinduism. Astrological and religious viewpoints consider it to be an auspicious day. It is a day of birth, rebirth, creation, and manifestation. Keeping a fast on this day is an auspicious act. It is called Purnima Vrat. Meanwhile, individuals who keep Purnima Vrat takes a bath before sunrise. Thereafter they offer prayers to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu in the morning and Chandra Dev in the evening. The vrat is observed to receive blessings from the deities and bring peace and prosperity to one’s life and family.

Our puranas state that chanting Mahamrityunjaya and Gayatri mantra on Purnima day is important to receive the blessings of god. Also, it is advisable not to consume any non-vegetarian food on the day of Purnima. Furthermore, both Amavasya and Purnima days have this prohibition of non-vegeterian in common.

What is Amavasya and What is its Significance?

Sadhguru explains the meaning of Amavasya and its significance in the life of those who are on the spiritual path.

Sadhguru Pournami

The Meaning of Amavasya

The earth broods on Amavasya; the life process is slowed down on the planet and it is a great opportunity because the integration of life happens much better on this day. When a certain slow down happens, that is when you notice your body. When everything is going well and you are busy, you do not know what is happening with the body; the body is just you. But if a little ailment comes, suddenly the body is an issue and it is something that you have to pay attention to. Only when it does not do well, you know, ‘This is not me. This is just my body giving me troubles.’ Very clearly a distance arises.

So that is the significance of Amavasya. On that day, because a certain integration of the elements is happening, there is a slowdown of everything. If you are seeking wellbeing, Pournami is sacred. If you are seeking liberation, Amavasya is sacred. Accordingly, there are different kinds of practices and sadhanas for those two dimensions of life. It is a day when one can become easily aware of, ‘What is me and what is not me,’ and from there on, the journey from untruth to truth begins. From Amavasya to Pournami, every month the opportunity is created naturally. Even for those who are completely unaware, there is a natural opportunity available beginning every Amavasya and moving on.

The nature of Pournami is more of the Idaa or the feminine. Amavasya is very raw. One day before Amavasya is known as Shivarathri because it is Shiva’s night. It is primordial in nature. When everything is pitch dark, it is like the creation is dissolved. There is a tinge of the destroyer in Amavasya. Generally, on the night of Amavasya a very feminine energy would either be disturbed because it causes certain fear and disturbance in her, or it could turn roguish and man-like.

Pournami is more conducive for a feminine energy. So Pournami is made use of by the women. For a man, the Pournami night is not very good if he is seeking dissolution. If he is seeking wellbeing, man can also make use of Pournami, but if he is seeking liberation or dissolution, Amavasya is better. For all those who are seeking absolute dissolution, Amavasya is great.

You may have heard that if people are a little mentally imbalanced, on Pournamis and Amavasyas they become more imbalanced. Why this is so is, the gravitational impact of the moon is working on our planet. So it is pulling everything up. Whole oceans are trying to rise. Similarly, your own blood is trying to rise to the moon’s gravitation. Because of this, if you are mentally little imbalanced, because of excessive circulation in your brain on that day, you will become more imbalanced. If you are happy, you will become more happy; if you are unhappy, you will become more unhappy. Whatever is your quality, it gets a little enhanced on those days because the blood is being pulled upward. So the whole energy is being pulled upward in some way. For a spiritual sadhaka who is always using every means possible to move his energies upward, these two days are like a boon from nature.

Balipadyami Story - Importance - Dedicated to King Bali After Diwali in Karnataka - Telangana - Andhra Pradesh - Bali Padyami Date in 2024

Bali padyami rare muhurta.

Bali Padyami Date Importance

Bali Padyami Is An  Auspicious Day to Give Gifts

Balipadyami story.

Legend has it that King Bali attained immense popularity due to his good governance. He attained near invincibility with the help of his Guru Shukracharya. As a result, Indra soon lost heaven to  Bali . And Balindra got the coveted title of Chakravarthi – emperor.  Bali  decided to conduct Ashvamedha Yajna, to show his strength.
Indra sought the help of Lord Vishnu to regain his lost heaven.
Lord Vishnu attended the Yajna, as Vamana, a dwarf. Vamana asked for three steps of land and it was immediately granted by King Bali. Soon, the short Vamana grew in size – so huge that it was impossible to describe in words.
With his first step, Vamana covered all of Earth. His second step covered all of the Sky. There was no place for the third step and King Bali offered his head. Vamana sent  Bali  to Patala Loka or Underworld.
King Bali was a popular and great ruler; therefore he was made the emperor of underworld by Vamana. He was also given the boon that he will be allowed to rule the entire universe for one day, which is the Bali Padyami day.

Bali Padyami falls on Karthika Shudda Padya.

Bali Pratipada or Bali Padyami is observed the day after Diwali in Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Maha Bali, the King of Pathala loka (netherworld), is worshipped on this day. He was given a boon by Lord Vishnu to visit the earth once a year. Kannada and Marathi people celebrate Balindra Puja to mark his arrival to the earth

On this day whatever daana kaaryas like Godaana, vastradaana, bhoodaana and other daanaas will please Vamana

Deepa Prajvalana on this day will make Lakshmidevi to stay in their house

Bali Chakravarthi will be the next Indra in the coming Manvantara.

Draw Balichakravarthi’s figure in rangoli or Gomaya. Then we have to invite Bali. We have to put curds in front of Bali.

Ladies will enter the house, by pouring milk from outside, which is a method of inviting Lakshmi.

Chant the following mantra:

Baliraaja namastubhyam virochanasuta prabho: | Bhavishyemdra suraaraate pujoyam pratigruhyataam | Baliraaja namastubhyam daityadaanavavamdita: | Indrashatro amaraavate vishnusaannidhyado bhava

‘Poli Swargam’ marks end of Karthika Masam.. In 2023, Poli Swargam date is December 13.

R E L A T E D

  • Hanuman Vratham 2023
  • Margashira Masam 2023-2024 in Telugu Calendar
  • Margashira Maasa 2023-24 in Kannada Calendar

Bathing ghats in Vijayawada witness hectic activity with scores of people thronging to observe ‘Poli Swargam’ that marks the actual conclusion of Karthika Masam.

The devotees observe ‘Poli Swargam’, a day after Amavasya (new moon day) of Karthika Masam. As the custom goes, people leave sacred deepam to show way to washerwoman, who goes to heaven on a new moon day.

The devout, mostly women, reach the bathing ghats, in the early hours to take a holy dip in river Krishna and pray for the well-being of their families. Durga Ghat, which is very close to Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam, is choc-a-block with devotees, who turn up irrespective of age.

The officials arrange shower baths for the convenience of the devotees, who could not take a dip in the river.

The women devotees light deepam in the trunks of a banana tree. The devotees set afloat miniature boats made of paper and banana tree trunks carrying the lit earthen lamps in the river and canals.

The devotees offer ‘arghyam’ to the lord. The belief is that taking a dip in the river during Karthika Purnima cleanses them of their sins, expediting the end of the cycle of reincarnation.

Temples like One Town Sivalayam, Siva temple near Challapalli Bungalow, in Krishnalanka, Ramakoti in Satyanarayanapuram, and Sarabhaiah gullu in Durga agraharam witness heavy rush. Devotees made a beeline for temples to have a glimpse of the presiding deities.

Siva and Shirdi Saibaba temples are crowded with the devotees. In the evening, it is a delight to see thousands of lamps light at all the major temples. Hundreds of devotees gather in the temples, recite bhajans, and sing in praise of Lord Siva.

2024 Bali Pratipada

Bali Puja is also known as Bali Pratipada and performed on the first day of Kartik Pratipada which falls on the next day of Diwali Puja . Bali Puja coincides with Govardhan Puja. While Govardhan Puja is dedicated to Govardhan hills and Lord Krishna, Bali Puja is performed to seek blessings of Demon king Bali.

Due to boon bestowed by Lord Vishnu , Demon king Bali is worshipped in India during Diwali. According to legends associated with Vamana Avatar of Lord Vishnu, Demon Bali was pushed to Patala (i.e. Nadir) by Lord Vishnu. However due to generosity of the king Bali, Lord Vishnu allowed him three days to visit Bhulok (i.e. the earth). It is believed that king Bali resides on the earth for three days and blesses his devotees during these days.

As per religious texts, the image of king Bali should be drawn at the center of home along with his wife Vindhyavali . The image should be adorned with five different colors. The five colored image should be worshipped during Bali Puja.

In South India, king Bali is worshipped during Onam and the concept of Onam is same as that of Bali Puja in North India.

Mauni Amavasya 2024: Date and timings

This year the auspicious festival of Mauni Amavasya will be observed on Friday, February 9, 2024. According to Drik Panchang, the shubh muhurat and auspicious puja timings are as follows:

Amavasya tithi begins - 08:02 AM on February 09, 2024

Amavasya tithi ends - 04:28 AM on February 10, 2024

Significance of Mauni Amavasya

Hindus attach immense religious and spiritual importance to Mauni Amavasya. Amavasya is respected for performing all puja rituals, including Hawan, Pitru Dosha Puja and even Pind Daan, if people so wish, in memory of their ancestors or predecessors. However, it is not considered auspicious to perform all events such as marriage, engagement, mundan and griha pravesh. The name "Mauni" means silence, and the day of Mauni Amavasya is dedicated to the practice of silence. On this day, devotees take a sankalp of silence (mauna vrata) to experience spiritual elevation. In observance of Mauni Amavasya, devotees make a daily vow to remain silent. It is also believed that Mauni Amavasya is a very auspicious day to take a holy dip or 'snana' in a holy river, especially the Ganga.

Mauni Amavasya 2024 puja rituals

  • Take a holy dip and get up early to start the day.
  • Visit places of worship and take a holy dip in the Ganga if you can.
  • Light a diya with desi ghee in honour of your ancestors and forefathers.
  • Perform Pitru Tarpan and Pitru Puja, as it is considered to be auspicious.
  • Practice auspicious practices such as reading the Bhagavad Gita, Hawan and Gayatri Jaap.
  • It is considered virtuous to feed and donate to Brahmins.
  • Plan a Gayatri Jaap to help the family deal with Pitru Dosha.
  • It is advisable to perform a Kaal Sarpa Dosha pooja for people affected by this dosha to counteract its malignant effects.
  • Devotees must also feed crows, dogs, ants and cows.
