How to get to Disneyland Paris from Paris?

The easiest and most effective way to get to Disneyland Paris from the main city hub is to take the RER A train from Paris.

From Gare du Nord, take the RER B Sud (south bound) to Les Halles. When you get off at this stop look for the RER A train that is heading towards Marnee-la-Vallee.

Disneyland is the last stop on the line at Marnee-la-Vallee.

A one way ticket to Disneyland Paris will cost €7.60.

Trains for Disneyland depart every 15 minutes from Paris. The trip will take around 45 minutes to one hour.

Once you arrive, follow the signs (or the crowds) for the 2 minute walk to the Disney Parks.

Disneyland Paris by Car from Paris

If you are driving to Disneyland Paris the journey will take around 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on traffic.

There are two main ways to get there by car:

Take the A4 motorway from Paris. This is the quickest route but also the most likely to have traffic delays.

Take the N104 national road. This road goes through some smaller towns so the journey will take a bit longer, but it is less likely to have traffic problems.

There are several large car parks at Disneyland Paris. The prices range from €8-€35 per day depending on how close you want to park to the Parks.

If you are unsure about travelling to Disneyland on your own from Paris you can also take an organised transfer from Paris by bus , which will include your entry to the park.

Food at Disneyland Paris

Food at Disneyland Paris is not cheap! You have been warned.

When dining at Disneyland Paris you have three options:

• You can dine in at restaurant. It is recommended to book a table in advance as the spaces do fill up very quickly. It is also quite expensive, a mean will cost you at least €30.
• Pick up a meal or a snack from the food vans, fast food eateries or food stalls around the park. These offer your standard ‘carnival food’ options and will cost on average €10 for food such as hotdogs
• The cheapest option for dining at Disney is to bring your own food and drink, you cannot bring your own alcoholic beverages . You are welcome to bring your own meals and snacks to the park but sitting and enjoying a picnic is not recommended. There are several different supermarkets near Disneyland where you can stock up on food.

Accommodation at Disneyland Paris

There are many accommodation options available near Disneyland Paris. Below are some of the most popular:

Disney’s Davy Crockett Ranch which is a 15 minute drive from the Disney parks and features self catering Bungalows (takeaway breakfast is available for an additional charge). You will also be able to enjoy a heated indoor pool and hot tub.

Please note that Disneyland entry tickets are not included in the nightly rate.

Sequoia Lodge is a 14 minute walk from the Disney parks. Each room includes a private bathroom and free toiletries. An American style breakfast is available each morning for an addition charge.

Guests can meet Disney characters in this hotel from 08:00 to 11:00 each morning.

Disneyland Hotel is the most expensive hotel onsite and is located just a 5 minute walk from the main gates of Disneyland Park.

The hotel offers luxury rooms and suites, many with views over the park. Guests can enjoy an outdoor heated pool, spa and fitness centre during their stay.

TIP #1: Prepare for your solo Disneyland Paris Adventure

If you’re still in the pre-booking stage, let me give you a 3-part checklist of what you need to do to plan your solo trip:

FIRST: Get your trip booked!

Unless you have an annual pass, you’ll need park tickets. You’ll also need accommodation and travel.

The first step in planning your solo trip to Disneyland Paris is to compare a holiday package with buying accommodation, tickets and travel separately. I have a simple budgeting sheet in my Etsy shop that can save you time, help you keep track of your costs and help you compare like-for-like holidays.

For package holidays, you should compare the price of booking Disney directly with booking it through a trusted travel company like Attraction Tickets .

If you’re booking separately, try Hotels.com for hotels and attraction tickets for the parks. I like to travel by Eurostar on solo trips. It’s such an easy journey from London, you often can get a seat by yourself and it’s more budget friendly for solo travellers. SECOND: Make your table reservations

Once you’ve booked you can celebrate! You’re going to Disneyland Paris!

The next step is to make a list of any table-service restaurants you want to dine at.

Secondly, you may consider a Meal Plan if you’re staying at a Disney Hotel. I don’t usually buy a meal plan for my solo adventures because it rarely saves me money and I don’t want to eat a fancy meal every day on top of a buffet breakfast. But it might suit you, so definitely check that out on the Disneyland Paris website .

THIRD: Start dreaming of your magical time in the parks

With tickets, accommodation, travel and dining sorted out, you can start dreaming of all the wonderful things you can do at Disneyland Paris solo!

These are some of my favourite things to do at Disneyland Paris when I’m by myself:

• Wander around Chateau du Belle Dormant. The upstairs has a stunning recreation of Sleeping Beauty’s story told in stained glass, tapestry and parchment-papered books. It’s a fairy tale come true. Under the castle, a dark path will take you to meet the emerald-coloured dragon trapped in the dungeon.
• Eat a gooey chocolatey crepe while waiting for the parade in front of the castle. Paired with a steaming hot chocolate it’s the stuff dreams are made of. (An experience so good I named this blog after it)
• Meet characters! My children are older now and not as keen as I am to meet all the enchanting characters in the parks. Travelling solo means I can have selfies and cuddles with Tigger and Eeyore. Or comparing bows and having a chat with my BFF Minnie. And Stitch is always a mischievous delight! When you’re by yourself, it can sometimes get a bit lonely. But meeting characters is always a pick-me-up.
• Enjoy the shows. Sitting in a theatre and being absolutely engrossed in a delightful show is all part of the magic of being at Disneyland Paris alone. I highly recommend Mickey and the Magician, The Lion King and Frozen.
• Sample the gourmet food and wine in Walt Disney Studios’ gourmand district. Near the Tower of Terror, you will find carts that sell European and Asian delicacies and delicious wine. There are also stalls near Ratatouille with savoury crepes, vegan appetisers, wine and even mulled wine in the winter. And so much more! Sample what you like, find somewhere to perch and take in the Disney vibes.

TIP #2: How to dine solo at Disneyland Paris

There are two types of restaurants at DLP, quick service and table service. Here are my thoughts on both when travelling alone.

Quick service restaurants

The only thing that’s challenging about being by yourself is when the quick service restaurants are extra busy. As one person, it’s impossible to save a table at the same time you’re queueing. If this happens I try and take my tray outside if the weather is ok. Otherwise, just hover around a table that appears to be packing up.

TIP: Bring antibac hand wipes and you can clean up that sticky table in a jiffy!

Table service restaurants

Dining alone in restaurants might sound daunting, but trust me, once you’ve done it once, you’ll see that there’s nothing to worry about. The concierge will treat you like just another party, and feel free to tell them if you don’t like where your table is and wish to be re-seated. All the other guests are engrossed in their own meals, they won’t take any notice of you, so don’t be shy!

My favourite restaurants to dine solo at Disneyland Paris are:

• Walt’s An American Restaurant. Treat yourself to this very ‘adult’ meal which celebrates Walt Disney’s life, achievements and favourite foods. And check out the 10 secret details to look for when you’re there.
• Downtown. Located in the Art of Marvel Hotel, Downtown offers a delicious New York-inspired buffet. The food quality is amazing (especially the desserts!) and I love trying a few bites of dishes I wouldn’t normally have ordered.
• Plaza Gardens Character Breakfast . The breakfast dishes are pretty good, my favourite are the Mickey waffles. But I really come here for the characters! You can usually meet Tigger, Eeyore, Pinocchio, Ghepetto, Capt Hook and Mr Smee or similar.

Character meals

Character meals are fun for doing Disneyland Paris solo! You will get great interaction as they are focussed on you.

If you are worried about being awkward, bring something for them to sign, it gives you something to do together. I love using a photo mat from a picture frame . And don’t forget some Sharpie pens!

And if nothing else, you can always talk to characters about the food . I once asked Capt Hook at Plaza Gardens if they kept the good rum in the back for him. (He confirmed that they do!)

TIP #3: These are my must-do attractions (plus my secret tips and tricks!)

Doing Disneyland Paris alone allows you to do all your favourite things. So, of course, your list of must-dos is going to be individual to you. But to give you a few ideas, here are the attractions I always do as a solo traveller to Disneyland Paris.

• Meet a character. I mentioned this above in my section about park planning, but meeting characters is essential for me. Every trip I try to meet a different one, and some of my favourites have been Rapunzel, Stitch, Winnie the Pooh, and Alice & Mad Hatter.
• Big Thunder Mountain. I never go home before I’ve done BTM at least once! It’s a different experience in the daytime and at night, so I recommend you do both.
• Le Pays des Contes de Fees (Storybook Boats). They always let me have a row to myself and I find it the most relaxing little ride in a very scenic part of the main park.
• Phantom Manor. You will get a ‘doom buggy’ all to yourself so this a ride that is particularly enjoyable on a solo trip if you like ghosts and ghoulies.
• Peter Pan’s Flight. Another one that’s great if you’re solo, you will get your own ‘flying’ ship.
• Alice’s Curious Labyrinth and the Mad Hatter’s Tea Cups. Being a huge Alice fan, I thoroughly enjoy wandering the maze and spinning in my private tea cup. Ice cream at March Hare is another must-do!
• Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast. This is great fun and you can try to best your own highest score if you do it on each trip. You are usually seated in your own spaceship.
• Les Voyage de Pinocchio and/or Blanche-Neige et les Sept Nains (Snow White). I always ride one if not both of these nostalgic dark rides. Pinocchio has the slight edge as it’s been more recently refurbished, but they are both so lovely and capture Disney fairytales at their best.

8 attractions that offer a single rider queue

One of the BEST perks about being alone at Disneyland Paris is skipping the queue – for free!

That’s right. On several attractions, you can use the single-rider queue which can save you a lot of time. You’ll be sat next to another party (but you would have done that anyway).

• Crush’s Coaster
• Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop
• Ratatouille: The Adventure
• Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril
• Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure
• Avengers Flight Force
• Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain

3 tricks for long lines at Disneyland Paris solo

And what about standing in queues alone when there’s no single rider option? Here are three ways to avoid being bored.

• Buy a Premiere Pass for those rides beyond your waiting threshold. These are usually Crush’s Coaster, Big Thunder Mountain, Web Slingers, and HyperSpace Mountain. I wouldn’t bother with buying it for Peter Pan unless you’re a massive fan as it’s very short.
• Make friends in the line. If you happen to be in a queue with some friendly people you could always chat to make the time go faster. I’ve met people from all over the world and traded invaluable Disney tips with them. It’s not always possible because of a language barrier but it never hurts to try.
• Bring an activity with you. There are no rules at Disney! Bring your Kindle or tablet with a great book to read (don’t forget a spare battery pack like this ) or load up some gaming apps on your phone or a digital puzzle on your iPad. You could even spend the time organising photos into albums (my favourite activity!) or emailing your friends and family.

TIP #4: Important notes on safety for Disneyland Paris alone

It’s awful to think of someone doing something very un-magical at Disney. But we’d be foolish not to look out for pickpockets.

Two areas where solo travellers are most vulnerable are watching the fireworks in a crowded place and boarding the shuttle buses at night. Both times it’s hard not to be distracted. Especially by pushy, shoving people in the dark.

5 ways to make sure your valuables are kept safe

• Keep everything you don’t need on your person in the hotel safe. ID, emergency credit cards and extra cash are better off locked away.
• Get a lock for your luggage. Unfortunately, there are reports of belongings being stolen – even from expensive Disney hotels! Keep your larger valuables like expensive purses, Loungefly backpacks, Minnie Ears and souvenirs locked in a suitcase.
• I highly recommend getting a rope for your phone . This has been the BEST thing I have bought for my Disney trips. Wearing your phone makes it a difficult target for thieves and is invaluable in situations where your attention is split.
• Use the inner zipped pockets of your bag or backpack for money and credit cards. Or consider a neck wallet or money belt .
• You could also try a small padlock for your backpack if it can be locked. Or even a safety pin. Anything to make it harder for an unscrupulous person to put their hand in your bag in dark, crowded places.

How to protect your passport when you are going to Disneyland Paris alone

While most thieves are not interested in stealing your passport, it still makes sense for solo travellers to keep a photocopy of it in a separate place.

If you’re carrying your passport in the parks, leave a photocopy in your suitcase. Also, leave a copy at home with a friend. It will be much easier to replace a passport if you have a copy on hand.

Hotel and travel safety for solo travellers

General safety rules apply at Disney the same as they do for all hotels when you’re travelling by yourself.

4 dos and dont’s

• DON’T tell strangers where you are staying. Similarly don’t announce it on social media.
• DO always be aware of your surroundings. Tuck your phone out of sight, perhaps under your jacket if it’s on a rope. Don’t leave it in the front pocket of a backpack or even in your clothing pockets.
• DON’T forget to listen to your instincts. For example, If you’re taking a taxi, be sure it’s a registered one. Any inkling it’s unsafe and don’t get in that car.
• DO make sure to book a reputable hotel. Read reviews especially mentions of solo travellers. And use Google Maps to work out the route you need to take from the park to your accommodation.

My favourite hotels when I’m travelling to Disneyland Paris alone

• Any of the Disney hotels , even Cheyenne and Santa Fe . You can safely walk from the parks to these hotels along well-lit pathways and even at night there are usually lots of other people doing the same thing
• BnB, Grand Magic and Explorers. You can take the hotel shuttle but be aware of pickpockets
• Residhome and both Ibis hotels at Val d’Europe. Take the RER A train 1 stop and these 3 hotels are a minute’s walk from the station in a well-lit area.

TIP #5: Make the most of your solo trip (and what to do if anything goes wrong)

Disneyland Paris Solo is a bucket list item for some, but for you, it could be a dream come true!

A final tip to make the most of your adventures is to try letting go of your self-consciousness and preconceptions. What does your inner child truly desire? Walt Disney created a place where we can ALL believe in the magic!

Also remember that things sometimes go wrong, and expectations don’t always match up with experience. So when that happens, take a break, breathe deep and remember: Your adventure is not an adventure if nothing exciting happens! Travelling solo is also about building your resilience. Everything is figure-out-able.

A Solo Day Trip to Disneyland Paris: What to Know

In the fall of 2018, I had the fortune to go on a European Vacation. At the end of 2 weeks and 6 cities later, we started our final three days in Paris. I had no exact plan to go to Disneyland Paris . I was traveling with friends who weren’t interested and was apprehensive to go alone. But on the second day in Paris, I made up my mind and decided that with or without them – I was not going to miss my opportunity. Normally, I would’ve planned months in advance in order to make sure not to miss anything. To help out anyone else in this predicament,  I have listed 5 tips that I learned on the fly going to Disneyland Paris.

1. Take the Train if Possible When possible, I like to do the cheapest option if possible – without going through too much hassle. Our Airbnb was located right near the Arc de Triomphe. I awoke at 6 am on November the 3rd and headed to the train station. The train to Disney is clearly marked on their digital kiosks (that have an English option). I paid $8.71 each way, which is a steal if you look up the cost of car rentals and taxis. When you exit the train station, the signs for Disneyland Paris are almost immediately outside. Easy Peasy! * My exact route was “Charles de Gaulle – Étoile to Gare de Marne la Vallée-Chessy”. Gare de Marne la Vallée-Chessy is the Disneyland Paris train stop.

2. Buy Tickets in Advance (If You Can) – and do Both Parks! I was unable to due to my short notice and my lack of access to a printer. Tickets are cheaper in advance and no need to wait in two lines. If you can’t – no worries! Make sure you have the amount for a ticket in Euros available to cover your ticket. There were issues with the credit card the day of. This may have been a fluke, but always be prepared! I did the park hopper and whilst most people might be nervous about this, it is definitely do-able going to both Disneyland Paris Park and Walt Disney Studios Park. They are within a 5-minute walk from each other and you can go back and forth as many times as you want. If you’re only there for a day, this option is a must. 3. Plan Your Must-See Rides / Single Rider is Your Friend We all have our favorite rides and my main goal was to see the Paris version of the classics and the Paris Originals. The Disneyland Paris app has wait times, use this to navigate the park in order to get to your rides as fast as possible when the wait is low. I headed to one of the most popular and most classic first – Pirates of the Caribbean . Rock N’ Roller Coaster and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror are the same as the versions in Hollywood Studios and had some of the longest wait times. Crush’s Coaster , RC Racer , Ratatouille: The Adventure , Star Wars: Hyperspace Mountain , and Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop all have single rider options. These are crucial to get through the park speedily and to enjoy some of the top rides. 4. If You’re Alone: Treat Yourself I love a good theme and Disneyland Paris has done a fantastic job of making sure their restaurants cater to everyone! My favorite Pixar movie is Ratatouille and where better to treat yourself (if you’re a fan) – than at Bistrot Chez Rémy . As soon as I ran to Walt Disney Studios Park, I made sure I could make a reservation there. I had a great meal and ate some – of course, Ratatouille. It is themed to perfection and the staff had fun with me since I was dining alone. If I had not been able to get my Pixar dining experience – my second option and most popular for the fancy foodie is Walt’s – an American restaurant . This restaurant is best described on the Disneyland Paris website as, “Serving sophisticated and contemporary American cuisine with European influences, this is a Victorian-style tribute to the life and work of Walt Disney.” And for a Disney Fan, what could be better than that?

5. Sit, Walk – Enjoy. You’re in Disneyland Paris Not every ride I wanted to go on was open or had great wait times. I took an hour or two just to walk around. Since I did the trip solo, I got to sit on  Main Street and enjoy the sights, sounds, and different cultures I would hear passing me by. I walked into Cookie Kitchen and Boardwalk Candy  Palace to see all the sweets they had to offer. Sleeping Beauty Castle might have dragon some people miss out on in all the hurry. The magic of Disney put people in a different mood – no matter what park you decide to go to.

Whether or not you go on your own, Disneyland Paris has more than enough to offer you a trip you will never forget. But hopefully, these helpful tips will help you navigate this park a little better. Good luck and Happy Travels!

If you’re planning a trip to Disneyland Paris then this is the guide for you. Whether you’re wondering the best time of the year to go, what to wear, or indeed some of the best-kept secrets of the Disneyland Park in France, then we have you covered.

I recently visited Disneyland Paris for the first time as a twenty-something year old with two of my good friends. Despite grey clouds overhead, we had an amazing time and I highly recommend a visit to families, couples, and friend groups alike as a trip to Disney is easily one of the best day trips from Paris.

Disneyland Park

Disneyland is a huge sprawling site that comprises of a series of different areas. It is easily walkable over the course of around half an hour and so this section will breakdown the different parts of the park, as well as what there is to do in each section.

Disneyland Park, or Parc Disneyland as it is so-called in French is the larger of the two theme park areas of Disneyland Paris. This is the oldest part of the park and is where iconic attractions such as the ‘pink castle’ can be found.

The pink castle is, of co urse, the Sleeping Beauty Castle (Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant) and is a must-see while in the park. Under renovation, and therefore covered by scaffolding, for part of 2021, as of mid-November 2021, Sleeping Beauty’s Castle is once more available to see.

Disneyland Park is also gorgeous to visit as it is home to Main Street USA. This is the first place you visit once you enter Disneyland Park and is meant to resemble US towns of the early 20th-century. This part of the park is home to restaurants and boutiques.

The entirety of the Disneyland park is centred around the Sleeping Beauty Castle, with lands to the North, East, South, and West.

Main Street USA is where the Parade takes place. The four themed lands are Fantasyland (mainly rides geared towards young children), Frontierland, Discoveryland (named Tomorrowland in California), and Adventureland.

The smaller and newer of the two theme park areas at Disneyland is the Walt Disney Studios Park. This part of the park includes rides related to Walt Disney Studios movies and so it’s here where you’ll find the Toy Stories Rides, Cars rides etc.

Walt Disney Studios Park feels a bit older than the other parts of Disneyland Paris and doesn’t really have the same kind of ‘magical’ feel as the rest of the lands. Of note, there is a Marvel rides section of the park which opened in 2022 and is a new fan favourite.

Outside of the two parks, there is a small shopping area that includes merchandise shops, eateries, and other entertainment venues. This is similar to Disney Springs and Downtown Disney in the USA parks.

If you’re travelling from further away and are in France to see Disneyland as opposed to the city of Paris, then there is a hotel area of the park comprising of six hotels. There are also two newer hotels, though they’re located a little further away from the rest of the Disneyland Park.

Disneyland Paris tips

If it’s your first trip to Disneyland Paris, then there are a number of things to know before visiting. Having recently enjoyed the park for the first time, there were some things that I wish I had known sooner!

If you’re planning a visit to Disneyland, then you should know that my number one travel tip would be to reserve your tickets in advance. This will save you from wasting time waiting in line to purchase tickets. Purchase your Disneyland Paris tickets in advance with GetYourGuide.

If there’s one thing that I had no idea about prior to visiting Disneyland Paris, it’s that you should be prepared for a day of waiting.

Unless you purchase Premier Access (which is on a per ride basis and can easily add up to a small fortune), then you should be prepared to wait between 5 minutes to over 2 hours between rides.

If available and you don’t mind splitting up from your friends and sitting alone on a ride, then Single Rider access to rides can have a much shorter waiting time.

For example, to access the Ratatouille ride it would have taken us 60 minutes as a group. Going as single riders meant that we only had to wait for 25 minutes.

As I just mentioned, you can often be waiting for a long time in order to access certain rides. As such, I would recommend wearing your comfiest trainers and avoid wearing any shoes that might cause discomfort during the day. I also managed to walk over 20,000 steps during my time by simply walking around the site.

One of the most invaluable tips for visiting Disneyland Paris that I received was to download the Disneyland Paris app prior to my visit.

The app gives you a list of all the rides that are currently in operation (rides can often close at short notice throughout the day) and how long the wait times are.

The map available will also show you which rides are currently allowing Single riders (though it unfortunately doesn’t give you the single rider waiting times) and will tell you how long the queue for each ride will take.

Guests over the age of 12 aren’t allowed to wear costumes to visit the park. Luckily, if you’re creative, you can still wear outfits ‘in the vein of’ your favourite characters. This is called ‘Disney Bounding’ and you can read more about it here.

You can also purchase Disney ears at most of the shops throughout the parks (though you might be allowed to take them off for certain rides). People of all ages wear Disney ears.

As well as the classic Minnie ears, there are special releases of Disney ears and I personally love my purple sparkly ones. If you’re looking to purchase a souvenir from your time at Disneyland Paris, I highly suggest making it a pair of ears that you can wear on your next Disney trip, wherever that may be.

If you’re planning on visiting both attraction parks in one day, visit Disneyland Park after visiting Walt Disney Studios Park. Disneyland Park closes much later and has more to see/ do.

If you’re only visiting Disneyland Paris for a day (and especially if you’re planning on visiting both parks over the course of a day) , then you won’t be able to go on all of the rides. This can be disappointing to hear, but of course gives you the excuse to go back to Disneyland Paris in the future!

Get each person in your group to decide which rides they would most like to go on and focus on visiting those ones first so as to ensure that you have time to queue and go on them.

I would also recommend trying to go on the most popular rides (such as Ratatouille and Space Mountain) earlier in the day as these rides tend to have the longest lines.

If you want to visit Disneyland Paris and have the best chance at avoiding long queues to go on each attraction, then I would recommend avoiding French holidays. Since Disneyland Paris is so easy to reach from the UK, then I would also recommend avoiding UK bank holidays too. Avoid weekends too if you can help it!

Parking at Disneyland Paris costs €30 and motorbikes cost €20. As such, if you’re able to visit the park by public transportation, then this is likely a much easier and stress-free option.

The closest train station to Disneyland Paris is Marne-la-Valée-Chessy which is around a two-minute walk away from the entrance to the park. The station is on the RER A and provides a direct connection to central Paris in around 45 minutes.

I won’t be the first to say that the quality of the food at Disneyland Paris is not the best! There are two options when it comes to eating at DLP. The first is that you can sit in a restaurant (book in advance as space can fill up fast) , though this will set you back at least €30 per person.

The other option is to get food to go from one of the many vans/ stalls/ fast food joints from across the park. However, the vast majority of these options are unhealthy and pricey, with a hot dog costing €10. There is at least one vegetarian option at every restaurant.

One of the most overlooked Disneyland travel tips by first timers is that you can bring your own food and drink into the park (alcohol is not allowed) . While picnics are not looked on fondly, you could still bring snacks and sandwiches into the park with you, which is what we opted to do.

As Disneyland is such an international destination, you don’t need to have any knowledge of French. All signs and attractions throughout both parks are bilingual (the information is available in both French and English) . All staff members also speak good English.

Suggested packing/ what to wear at Disneyland Paris

Whether you want to bring an extra sweater in case of cold or if you’re looking to bring snacks, then be sure to bring a backpack. Bring a backpack that’s small enough to fit in the seat at your feet to go on the rides.

One of the most random facts about Disneyland Paris is that the original idea for the Europe site would be that it would be in a warmer climate to match the sites in the USA. However, Paris ultimately won the bid due to its proximity to so many millions of people.

As such, if you visit Paris in the late autumn/ winter/ early spring, then you should be prepared for all seasons. At these times of the year, the weather can change rapidly and you can easily experience rain and blue skies within the space of a single hour.

As such, I highly recommend wearing layers so that you can dress up against the elements as required. Other essentials include an umbrella (a small one to fit in your backpack), a hat, and gloves.

Frequently asked questions about visiting Disneyland Paris

Yes. It is possible to visit both Walt Disney Studios Park and Disneyland Park in one day. They are right next to one another and so just a few minutes walk apart. Both have their own separate entrances that you’ll have to go through in order to access the parks.

With this being said, if I only had the time/ money to visit one park, then I would choose to visit Disneyland Park.

This is the larger of the two parks and also the more traditional as it has a classic ‘Disney’ feel. You could easily spend an entire day exploring just one park, watching all of the shows, and enjoying all of the smaller rides on offer.

Due to ongoing world events, the single rider option for rides at Disneyland Paris was closed. However, as of November 2021, single rider is once again available. When you’re on site, use the app to check whether or not single rider is in operation on the day.

For example, when I visited Disneyland with friends, we didn’t have the option to go into a single rider queue for rides such as Crush’s Coaster in the Walt Disney Studios Park or the Big Thunder Mountain ride in Disneyland Park.

FastPass has been retired and so you can no longer acquire it to reduce your wait times for rides. There is now the option to buy Disney Premier Access. Access can be purchased on a per ride basis and is typically priced from €5- €15 per ride. Find out more information here.

There is currently no mandatory mask wearing in the park, though it remains recommended. As of autumn 2021, parades are once more taking place.

As of April 1st, 2022, character meet and greets are once more happening, meaning that a trip to Disneyland Paris is once more quite similar as to what it was like prior to 2020.

Yes! There’s something for everyone when it comes to Disneyland Paris. From relaxing riverboat rides to rollercoasters with loops, and everything in-between. I am personally got a greatly big fan of scary/ intense rollercoasters and still had an amazing time!

Disneyland Paris is a short walk (or train/ bus ride) away from La Vallée Village , the most successful designer outlet in France. La Vallée Village is a shopping outlet that comprises of over 110 stores, including plenty of designer French brands.

As well as ‘accessible’ designers such as Sandro, Maje, Levi’s, and Guess, there are also high-end designers such as Gucci, Balenciaga, Prada, and Burberry. La Vallée Village is part of The Bicester Village Shopping Collection Villages.

How to enjoy a solo trip to disneyland paris.

You might think that Disney is only for families with young children, but I’m hoping that this post will convince you that it is actually really easy to enjoy a solo trip to Disneyland Paris as an adult.

I visited Disneyland back in November when Christmas celebrations were in full swing. This was my first visit and I quickly discovered my inner child and found myself successfully resisting the urge to run through the whole park screaming as my six year old self exploded with excitement.

Visit During Term Time

I visited towards the end of November from Wednesday to Sunday and it was only at the weekend that I noticed a considerable increase in the number of children. This meant that for three days I was able to walk around in relative peace, allowing me to get to grips with where things were, take as many photos as I want and eat and shop without too many small people getting under my feet.

Take the Eurostar

Save even more time and money by travelling on the Eurostar. You don’t even need to worry about luggage allowances, just as long as you can lift your own case onto the train. Even getting through security is easier and quicker.

Stay in a Park Hotel

If you really want to make the most of your time during your solo trip to Disneyland Paris then you should consider staying in one of the on-site hotels. There are plenty to choose from, all with their own personalities and design and best of all, they’re all within 15 minutes walk of the two park entrances. This will simply save you travel time and even though they might be a little more expensive I definitely think it’s worth treating yourself to make your trip even more enjoyable.

You could always just turn up and go with the flow, but I would recommend making a plan. In order to make the most of your time and see and do everything, take a good look at the website and note down everything you want to do. If there are any particular shows, parades or dining experiences that you want to enjoy then note them down.

Download the App

If you really want to successfully plan and enjoy a solo trip to Disneyland Paris you definitely need to download the official app. With this you can view a detailed map of the whole resort, this allows you to plan everything from how long it will take to get from your hotel to the park entrances, where every restaurant, shop and ride is. It gives you an idea of wait times for your favourite rides, daily schedules for parades and shows and will generally just let you discover all the magic on offer.

Extra Magic Hour!

If you’re staying in one of the Disney Park Hotels during your solo trip to Disneyland Paris you’ll be entitled to Extra Magic Hour, this means you can enter the parks one or two hours before the general public, although this depends on the season. If you don’t take advantage of this then you are a fool.

Start at the Back

When arriving at either of the parks it is easy to get distracted, if not slightly overwhelmed by excitement, but you should definitely start at the back of the park and work your way forward. Not only will this ensure that you don’t miss anything but it will also put you slightly ahead of everyone else as they start at the front and work their way to the back.

Use Single Rider

Help reduce the wait time for certain rides and fill seats by using the Single Rider Pass. Simply join the signposted queue, once you reach the front, you’ll be guided towards any spare single seat within a ride vehicle. Check the wait time indicator at the entrance, this should allow you to directly compare the estimated Single Riders wait with the regular queue time. You could save an hour, or you could only save a few minutes, but it all adds up to more time to do other things in the Disney Parks.

Find a Good Spot

If you want a good view of the parades you’ll want to find a spot early. Seriously, head to Main Street up to an hour before the parade is due to start and find the best vantage point. When you find the space with the best view, stand on the curb and don’t move. If you lose your spot you won’t get it back as the crowds get bigger. Allow any small children to stand in front of you and you’ll be thanked by their parents. However, if you are particularly tall don’t be crappy and stand directly in front of shorter people.

Table For One

Enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner but avoid the busiest times. Have breakfast as early as possible and then head to the parks ready for Extra Magic Hour. Go for lunch any time after 2pm and then aim to have dinner around 8pm. If you are offered a seat at a bar instead of a table, then take it – the staff will appreciate your helpfulness and you’ll probably get better service than if you’re awkward and difficult to please. It will also help if you look at the menus and decide what you want to order before you sit down, this will also save time and mean you get served quicker.

Buy a Meal Plan

Food at Disneyland Paris is not cheap. A breakfast buffet can be at least €20 per day, other meals could you around €30 and then you have to remember that drinks are extra. Portions are quite large so I would personally recommend you opting for the Half Board Plus option – this means you get breakfast for every day of your trip plus one other meal (lunch or dinner) at more than 15 of the selected buffet and table service restaurants across the whole site.

If you think you might get a little peckish in between then buy snacks before getting on the Eurostar and take them in with you. Pack a refillable water bottle and fill it at the free water fountains. This could save you up to €10 a day.

Get Your Camera Out

Your enjoying a solo trip to Disneyland Paris then take your camera and wander. There are so many things to take photos of that you’ll probably miss if you’re only concentrating on going from one ride to the next. If you’re on your own then slow down, enjoy some Disney magic and treat yourself to some great memories.

You’ve enjoyed a brilliant trip to the happiest place on Earth, so visit the variety of shops and take some great presents home with you (whether you give them away or keep them for yourself is up to you.)

Disneyland Paris Solo: Is it worth it?

Disney is one of those magical places that lights up your childlike wonder and leaves you glowing for days after you leave the gates. But is going to Disneyland Paris worth it? Especially as a solo traveler? I just visited the park in September 2018 and have some thoughts to share on if Disneyland Paris solo is worth it.

I’ve been to Paris a number of times and when planning out my days, I saw I had a whole Tuesday available to do anything. Sure, I could see a museum or go shopping, but I had just been doing that over the past four days I was in Paris.

Since we visited Disney World in Orlando just a few weeks ago, I thought a trip to Disneyland Paris would make for a great comparison.

How to Buy Disneyland Paris Tickets

The process of buying tickets to Disneyland Paris was very similar to the process of buying them for the Florida park. I went to the Disneyland Paris TripAdvisor page about a week before my intended visit to check out prices. Since I was able to visit during a week day on off-peak season, my ticket to Disneyland Paris to just one park was just $55! I thought that was a steal for a full day of entertainment.

I purchased the ticket online and printed it out in advance, which is key. Apparently you cannot buy tickets online the same day you wish to visit the park. I guess that policy is to reward people who plan in advance (yay, Type A!) and to “punish” those late planners who just show up at the gates. The price at the door was closer to $99, but I think that was for both parks.

If you buy in advance, you also must print out the ticket; it cannot be presented on a phone or tablet.

The entry line to purchase tickets was quite short the day I went, but again, it was on a Tuesday during off-peak season.

How to get to Disneyland Paris

I dedicated a whole blog post to this topic , but in short, to get to Disneyland Paris take the RER A train from Paris. You can connect to this train, which is more like a commuter rail or regional rail, from the Paris Metro system and from other RER lines (RER lines are names A—E and run to the suburbs of Paris).

In my case, I was staying near Gare du Nord. I hopped on the RER B Sud (South) for one stop to Les Halles. From there, I switched to the RER A train towards Marnee-la-Vallee. Tickets each way cost 7.60 Euro and you can either buy single tickets or two tickets at once for your round trip. They are the same price regardless.

The trip on the RER takes about 45 minutes to an hour , and it’s a pleasant journey through the towns just outside Paris. When you arrive at Disneyland Paris, it’s the last stop on the line. You exit the station by going up a few flights or stairs or you can take the escalator or elevator.

The train to Disneyland Paris runs every 15 minutes or so and seems to be quite reliable. I definitely found it easy to manage.

I did see other folks taking ride share services or shuttles from their more local hotels. There is also parking on site if you rent a car for your trip.

Food at Disneyland Paris

To be honest, my food experience was a little “meh” at Disneyland Paris. I waited in line longer for food than I did at any of the rides, which was surprising. However, they did let me order a kids meal, which was awesome! I got the kids chicken burger, fries, applesauce, and a bottle of water for 9 Euro, which was a pretty good deal. The adult meals were 14 Euro or more, depending on what/where you eat.

Disneyland Paris Rides

Overall, I loved the rides at Disneyland Paris, and being a solo adventurer allowed me to get on rides very quickly! One thing to note is the rides are a little dark. Like, physically dark and…emotionally dark? They were scary! The Snow White ride was very dark and featured the Evil Queen heavily. Like in almost every scene. So just be aware of that if you do end up going with young children.

I also loved—like, loved—It’s a Small World. It was longer than the one in Florida, I think. It was also so colorful and fun! The attention to detail on the costuming of each country was outstanding. For example, the French can-can dancers had multiple layers of tulle under their skirts that they lifted up as they danced. And the America scene showed off the Wild West, NYC, and Hollywood. The outside of the ride is also really fun. Every so often the clock doors open and there’s a short show of dolls who go in and out of the clock tower. It reminded me of the clock show in Munich!

There is a ride in Disneyland Paris called Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain. It’s meant to be similar to Space Mountain in Florida, but it’s so much better! It’s also in the dark, but this roller coaster is even faster and goes upside down! I was definitely not expecting that! This was probably the best ride of the day, and one that makes the visiting Disneyland Paris totally worth it!

Other rides struck out a bit, like the train that goes around the park. It was really slow and definitely not worth a ride unless you have time to kill or are trying to get out of the rain for a long time.

I will also note that many things were closed during my visit. The Haunted Mansion was closed, as well as several restaurants and other attractions. The app has a list of everything that is closed at a given time. It made sense that certain things would close during the slow season, but it was disappointing.

Should I go to Disney Paris alone?

Did I feel like weirdo going to Disneyland Paris solo?

Since I traveled to Paris alone, I did feel a little awkward about the thought of visiting Disneyland Paris solo. I wasn’t scared about getting there and back alone. I was more conflicted about whether I would enjoy it without a friend or my husband.

I noticed on the train that there were a couple other solo travelers on the way to Disney. All women, though! I thought that was funny.

I actually had a great day walking around the park solo, and it gave me plenty of time to people watch. I could take as long as I wanted in areas of the park, or totally skip unappealing things. I got through the park very fast; it only took me about 5 hours to see and ride everything I wanted. I thought the park would take a whole day to go through, and I probably could have visited both Paris Disney parks in one day. When you’re alone and don’t have kids you can really zip through the attractions.

Overall, yes, it’s worth visiting Disneyland Paris solo. Would I go back again? Maybe. If someone I was traveling with really wanted to go, I would go back. It can be really affordable if you go during the off-peak times, which is good. Including the ticket, train tickets, food, and a few small souvenirs, I probably only spent about $100 for the whole day trip. I think that’s a bargain for a day’s worth of entertainment!

You should not feel weird at all about going to Disneyland Paris solo, too! There were other solo travelers, and lots of English speakers to chat with in the lines or to ask to take photos. Nobody around me seemed to think I was weird or out of place. Or at least I didn’t see anyone giving me weird looks like, who is this sad, lonely woman?

If you have a day to kill near Paris, or want to experience the magic of Disney at way more affordable prices than in America, you should definitely plan a trip out to Disneyland Paris. I hear they are also going to start renovating the park soon, so hopefully we can look forward to more rides and upgraded décor in the near future!

Wow, that is a bargain! I spend $188 on just my ticket to visit the Universal Orlando parks for one day last month, so $100 for the whole day sounds like a steal. Did you get to ride Big Thunder Mountain? It was closed when I was there, but reliable sources have told me that it’s the best version of that ride out of all of the Disney parks worldwide.

No, it was also closed when I was there, which was a bummer. So was the Haunted Mansion. So I need to go back for sure!

Generally, Disneyland Park opens at 10am.  When starting to plan your Disneyland Paris itinerary, you need to check the schedule for your chosen day, because – depending on the time of year you’ll be visiting – the park closure time varies from 6.30pm – 11pm.

How To Use Fastpass At Disneyland Paris

You walk up to the ride that you want the fastpass for and check what the ‘return time’ is.  If that time suits you, then you go to the machine, scan your park tickets (you need to scan the ticket of everyone in your party who wants to ride) and grab your Fastpass ticket. 

Don’t leave either your park ticket or your Fastpass ticket behind!  That will most definitely NOT help your Disneyland Paris itinerary! 

Once you have your Fastpass you can do other things while you wait for your time slot.   You’ll have plenty of time to grab some good food at the Disneyland Paris restaurants – we have a great guide about which ones are the best here !

When it’s your time, return to the ride and go to the designated Fastpass line. 

Don’t forget to grab another Fastpass ticket as soon as you can, afterwards!

One Day Disneyland Paris Itinerary Morning Plan

Start: Walt Disney Studios at park opening

Stop 1: Crush’s Coaster  This is a great fun coaster, for all ages.  It does have a single rider line, if the lines are long and you could use these, but if you’ve been in the park from opening, the line should be short.  You cannot get a FastPass for this ride.

One Day Disneyland Paris Itinerary Afternoon Plan

Disneyland paris park 2-8pm.

• Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril – an exhilarating ride full of twists, turns and unexpected elements
• Big Thunder Mountain – one of our favorites and has an in ride photo, unlike the one in WDW
• Phantom Manor – a similar version of the Haunted Mansion 
• Pirates of the Caribbean – similar to the Magic Kingdom version but with some unique differences, making it worthwhile and possibly better – don’t forget to shout Bon Appetit to the diners!
• Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain – formerly just Space Mountain and streets ahead of the Magic Kingdom ride, in our opinion.  It is a lot more intense and includes inversions, but is a smoother ride.

• It’s a Small World – with a celebration of diverse languages.  The parade route starts close to this ride, so you may want to be here to catch the start of the parade and then to ride It’s a Small World!
• Blanche-Neige et les Sept Nains (traditional dark ride, which may be too dark for really young guests)
• Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast
• Casey Jr – le Petit Train du Cirque (we took our 2 year old on this and she LOVED it – it’s such a catchy tune and joyful ride, but with a very slow moving line.   Now they’re older, I’d want this to be a walk on to prioritise this over other rides)

Disney favorites:

• Mickey’s Philharmagic
• Dumbo the flying elephant (slow loading and repetitive – if you have children, do NOT let them persuade you to queue for this early in the afternoon – this is an end of the day ride!)
• Peter Pan’s Flight – beautiful and with typically shorter wait times than the US Disney parks
• Mad Hatter Tea Cups – particularly beautiful at night
• Le Carrousel de Lancelot – another particularly slow loading ride

We think it’s really worth your time to dedicate some exploration time, as mentioned at the top of this section.  

• Alice’s Curious Labyrinth is great fun and you can climb up the Queen’s castle.
• The rope bridge in Adventure Isle is fun for all ages
• The castle interior ( La Galerie de la Belle au Bois Dormant ) has been executed with amazing detail and you can get one member of your party to go down and take a photo of you on the balcony!
• The sleeping dragon is a fabulous touch, although my toddler found the snoring a little sinister!
• Les Mysteres du Nautilus – takes me back to when there was a Nautilus in Magic Kingdom

Dinner 

You will need a break for dinner – to sit down and rest your legs.   

Whilst there are good table service options in Disneyland Paris (we recommend Captain Jack’s Restaurant des Pirates for a great experience and atmosphere!) and you can read more about them here you will probably find the prices quite expensive and the quality not quite as good as you’re expecting.  

Given France’s culinary reputation, I have rarely been particularly impressed with the quality or value for money of meals in the Table Service restaurants in either of the parks.   

Aside from this, with your one day in Disneyland Paris, you may find that you want to go back to the Studios to catch a show or want to explore more attractions or repeat some of your favourite rides.   If doing Disneyland Paris in a day, I’d be tempted to eat again at a Quick Service location and have more time to explore the parks.

IF both parks close early on your one day in Disneyland Paris and you can cope with a snack to keep you going, then we would recommend eating dinner in Disney Village after the parks are closed.

After dinner

Once you’re happy you’ve done your essentials (particularly before Studios closes), then we recommend you mentally list your ‘top wishes’, based on the time you have left and what you’ve not achieved during the day (or things you’d like to see/experience again!).

We recommend you make time to watch Illuminations, which is a 20 minute nightly show that takes place at park closing.  You may wish to eat hot dogs while staking out your spot, or prefer to ride Hyperspace Mountain one more time and walk up minutes before it starts – the benefit of this Disneyland Paris itinerary is that you make the choices that suit your group!

After Illuminations, if you didn’t eat beforehand, make your way to Disney Village and choose where you want to eat.   If it’s a nice evening, you may wish to take out and stroll around the lake and take in the illuminated hotels and balloon.

If you did eat beforehand, and you have the energy, then shopping might be your preferred activity!  Remember, Disney Village is generally open late, so you shouldn’t need to rush!

28 Disneyland Paris Tips for First Timers!

Disneyland Paris for First-Timers it can be hard going, with children even more so, looking after young children can be stressful at the best of times. If it is your first time in France experiencing French culture is another new experience to be had.

We love Disneyland Paris and have had the opportunity to visit many times. That said Mouse Travel Matter presents 28 Disneyland Paris Tips for First Timers!  These are our first-hand tips from our days exploring Disneyland Paris as Disneyland Paris First Timers.

28 Tips to Make Your Day Brighter

• If you haven’t booked yet and can afford it, book at least 3 days as you can’t get much done in a day, it takes time to get your bearings, and it doesn’t give you room for a rainy day .
• Plan plan plan your day! You will do so much walking and the wait times for things can be extremely long so know where you’re going and what you’re doing, otherwise, you’ll spend ages just walking about doing nothing.
• Take comfortable shoes or several pairs to alternate as you will walk a lot. After tracking our steps we were covering over 12 Km a day pushing a buggy.
• Take water bottles and concentrated juice and fill up at the fountains around the park. You’ll save a fortune.

• Make your reservations for dinner early as otherwise, you’ll end up just eating burgers and fries.
• Book advanced dinner reservations for character dinners if you can, it’s fantastic. We saved this for our last night and our kids met so many characters in such a short space of time included Mickey whom we refused to queue for the day before (just too long and too hot to even try)
• If you have a non-walking baby or even just a small child, take a baby sling or carrier. You can’t take strollers into the queue and when you’re waiting over an hour for a ride, your arms will start to hurt holding them the entire time.
• Take some snacks from home. We didn’t need as much as I packed as we were so full from breakfast, but it was handy to have them if needed (especially when trying to keep little ones happy in queues)
• Ensure you get to see Mickey and the Magician, the Disney Stars on Parade and the Disney Illuminations Fireworks show. Find your spot about an hour before these events start as many guests start waiting quite early! These definitely helped make our holiday and I’d highly recommend not missing them.
• Take layers and waterproofs.

• Download the free   Disneyland Paris Mobile App , which can show you your current location in the park and is handy to see quickly where things.  It also displays current wait times for rides!
• We recommend dining at  Bistrot Chez Rémy . This sit down restaurants decor is fantastic and the food is lovely. Ratatouille: The Adventure  next door is brilliant! You shrink down to the size of Remy and duck, dive, dodge and scurry to safety in a dazzling chase across a gigantic kitchen.
• Allow lots of time for meals in restaurants. 1.5 hrs for a 2-course meal minimum.
• For those travelling to Disneyland Paris with Kids , be sure to tie something unique such as a ribbon to your buggy if taking one. You wouldn’t want to walk off with someone else’s after a ride or lose yours in a sea of strollers.
• As Disneyland Paris First Timers we planned to spend all day in the park, as it can be a good 20 min walk back to the hotel so we avoid the trek back until evening. Little ones can sleep in the stroller and parents can use Rider Swap.
• If riding the Magical Shuttle between Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport and Disneyland Paris. It’s really not obvious at all where to catch the bus. Follow the signs for generic buses from Terminal 2E and then look out the window for yellow coaches. There is no Disney sign.
• Be prepared for bag checks and x-ray machines when entering Disney Parks and Hotels.
• Seasoned Disney Fans use ID holders around their necks to hold their tickets, fast passes, photo pass etc. It will save you the bag shuffling.
• Prepare yourself for lots of queues. Even when visiting off-peak it can be very busy and quite warm waiting in the queues without shade or covers. Hats and water are a must to prevent dehydration .
• If staying on-site at a Disney Hotel, every morning at breakfast there is a character outside the restaurant (you don’t need to be having breakfast for this) with an official photographer for the meet and greet, in some of the hotels. Call to see if your hotel has this option. The wait is never long and you are only competing with fellow hotel guests, not the whole park
• If you aren’t watching the parade, use that time to explore Walt Disney Studios Park around 4 pm. It’s much quieter for rides at that time.
• If renting a stroller, it is best to rent on the day you want to catch Illuminations, as it’s not till 11 pm in the summer months. T his way your kids can sit back and chill out whilst you wait.

• If you have purchased your Disneyland Paris package with Free Half Board Plus like us on occasion, and it is a good thing it was free because paying for it wouldn’t have been worth it. Princess lunch at Auberge de Cendrillon took 2 vouchers and we only had 1 left so we still ended up paying for half the meal. Bistrot Chez Rémy  required the extra addition of dessert and drinks, and Plaza Gardens was only half off since the breakfast voucher doesn’t cover the whole cost, just a lunch voucher – to be used during actual lunchtime. Full Board Premium or nothing for us.
• During Extra Magic Time, there are meet and greets for Minnie, Donald and Chip & Dale.
• If you plan on taking any Photopass+ pictures, it is worth buying in advance since it is cheaper and a lot more trouble to buy it after you arrive.

• Yes! There’s is a Dragon under the castle; “La Tanière du Dragon”. For Disneyland Paris First Timers, it is not to be missed.
• Don’t worry if you don’t speak French, the majority of the Continent doesn’t either. You will be fine.
• European attitudes are a bit different from North America. They’re Not Rude, They’re Just French. They may appear rude or indifferent, that’s not it – they just do it differently. Walt Disney World has different magic all its own. You may find that Europeans don’t have much tolerance for “personal problems” or “do you know how much I paid for this vacation?” type attitudes. It’s part of the Disney experience worldwide to explore cultures.

• Bring a portable charger . Taking all those pictures are going to kill your battery and you can’t rely on public outlets when you are on the proverbial clock.
• Take advantage of FastPasses. You may not be able to book in advance, but that doesn’t mean you can’t think about it strategically. Plan which attractions you want to FP and in which order.
• Never pay for water. All quick service locations, plus the water fountains at all restrooms, have free drinking water.
• Take a picture of your parking spot. Cause let’s be honest, when you are that tired, you will not remember where you parked.
• Buy your tickets online. It’s cheaper!
• Get a special occasion button. Considering it’s your first time, you will want to celebrate with a fancy new Disney pin. And they are free!
• Have your shopping sent to your hotel room. No need to carry anything around with you, just have the store send everything to your hotel gift shop, and collect it tomorrow.
• Use the single rider line. If you have zero intention of riding those scary attractions with your partner, send them through the single rider line and watch as they sore to the front of the line and fill in those empty seats.
• Or the Rider switch system. If your little ones can’t or won’t ride a certain attraction, no one has to choose to stay away. The rider switch system allows everyone a chance to ride while the other parent watches the children.
• Eat at weird times. Most people like to eat at noon and 5 pm. If you can muster the strength to eat well before or after these times, you will have much better success in securing a table, and the kitchen staff won’t be as busy.
• Use a Stroller . You may not think your littles ones require a stroller anymore but this is Disneyland Paris! The number of Miles you and your family will walk in a single day is incredible. Add that to the heat, less of sleep and overwhelming nature of Disney, and you have a recipe for disaster. Even if you park it in the morning and only grab it after lunch, you will thank yourself for it later.

9 things to know about visiting Disneyland Paris if you've only been to US Disney parks

In between touring the Louvre, strolling the banks of the Seine and ascending the Eiffel Tower, many visitors to the City of Light also pay a visit to Disneyland Paris. Situated to the east of the city, the resort is home to Europe's largest (and most visited) theme park.

With China still closed to tourism and Japan only starting to reopen, Disneyland Paris is the international Disney resort that is currently the most accessible to the traveling world. Combine this with the fact that Paris is set to host the Summer Olympics in 2024 and it's safe to say that many visitors will likely soon pass through the theme park's gates.

While Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, is my family's home park, we frequently visit Disney destinations around the world. So, when we had the chance to spend several weeks in France and the United Kingdom this summer, we knew we had to set aside a little time to see what France's version of Mickey Mouse had to deliver.

Not surprisingly, we found that Disneyland Paris does a lot of things in a slightly different way. However, one detail remains a constant across all the parks, Disneyland Paris included: Guests who pre-plan, know what to expect and understand the rules will surely have a magical vacation.

Disneyland Paris basics

Before delving into all you need to know about experiencing Disneyland Paris, it's important to have a lay of the land and understand the logistics of getting to the property.

Located about 25 miles east of Paris ' city center in Chessy, France, Disneyland Paris is easy to reach by train. The Marne-la-Vallée–Chessy train station sits a few steps away from the park's entrance and is accessible via Réseau Express Régional routes departing from downtown Paris and Trains à Grande Vitesse routes that leave Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) and other destinations in France.

Once at the property, you'll notice that Disneyland Paris has a similar layout to Disneyland Resort. Two theme parks — Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park — comprise the resort, with each within walking distance of the other. There is also an adjacent shopping and entertainment district known as Disney Village, as well as multiple themed hotels with additional services and dining locations.

Like all the Disney parks, Disneyland Paris is a bucket list experience for Disney fans, regardless of when you visit. However, now is an especially magical time to check out the resort, as it's celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2022, with celebrations set to continue until Sept. 30, 2023.

Essential Disneyland Paris tips

If you are considering or planning a visit to Disneyland Paris, it's vital to know about the resort's unique rules and tricks. Even as a seasoned Disneyland and Walt Disney World visitor, I had to learn a lot of new things while at Disneyland Paris. Fortunately for us, the pieces ultimately fell into place once we identified the major differences. Here's what you need to know:

Logistics are easier

Recently, Disneyland and Disney World have received a lot of negative press for their complicated post-pandemic rules and procedures. While Disneyland Paris did implement a few changes after its reopening that have stuck, nearly everything is much easier to navigate for the casual visitor.

For example, Disneyland Paris does require park reservations for some guests, but if you are booking a Disneyland vacation package for a stay at an on-property hotel, then no park reservations are required.

Ticketing options are simpler, more flexible and overall less expensive as well. Guests who purchase park tickets as part of a vacation package will find ticketing to be as easy as showing up and entering. If you are not purchasing a ticket as part of a package, it's still a fairly straightforward process. Once you know how many days you'll be visiting, all that's left to decide is whether you want a dated or an undated ticket. (Dated tickets are cheaper but require picking your entry dates when you book, whereas undated tickets are pricier but let you choose your park dates after booking.) If you pick a dated ticket, you can then opt for a park hopper or one-park option. That's about it. Should your plans change, tickets are fully refundable up until three days prior to their valid date.

Thankfully, tickets are cheaper than in the U.S. with one-day, one-park tickets starting around $70-$80, depending on the date. In the U.S., they can be roughly double that price.

Disneyland Paris also doesn't have arbitrary time limits on its park hopping hours. If you've purchased a park hopper ticket, you are free to go back and forth between the two parks at any time of day.

In short, there are fewer opportunities at Disneyland Paris to make a mistake and find that you've run afoul of some obscure new rule. We found that assurance comforting, especially when dealing with the greater logistical challenges already inherent in an international trip.

Ride lines are mostly manageable

The most common complaints about theme parks around the world are the crowds and long lines. Disneyland Paris certainly has its fair share of both, but we were pleasantly surprised to find that standby queues for attractions were not as painfully long as guests might fear.

My family visited during a peak time of year (the U.K.'s summer recess from school), so we experienced ride lines at close to their worst. Lines were a little longer than I like to stand in but were by no means as terrible as lines you'll find at Disneyland or Disney World on a very busy day. If you can time your visit for a weekday when kids are not on break, you'll likely have an even more manageable time at Disneyland Paris.

Of course, there are tricks to finding shorter lines, including arriving early for rope drop or staying late after many guests retire for the evening. Disneyland Paris also has single-rider lines for a number of popular attractions that can save you time. We used all of these tricks to great effect.

Additionally, Disneyland Paris has a skip-the-line FastPass-style program of its own for select rides, with two paid options available: Disney Premier Access One and Disney Premier Access Ultimate.

With the more affordable Premier Access One program, you pay between 9 and 18 euros (roughly $9-$18) per ride for expedited access at a particular time via the attraction's fast lane. Meanwhile, the Premier Access Ultimate program automatically gives you access to each ride's fast lane whenever you want for a higher price (usually well above 100 euros, or $100, per person, per day).

Since fewer guests use these pay-to-play options at Disneyland Paris, they don't have as great of an impact on standby lines for non-paying guests. As a result, my family decided to skip the high cost of the upgraded Premier Access option and instead purchase three regular Premier Access One passes during our three-day visit. We found them to be far less complex than Disney's confusing paid Genie+ and Lightning Lane systems currently in operation at Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Our most valuable purchase was for Crush's Coaster, which historically has the longest line at either park.

The second park is weak

Disneyland Paris includes two parks, but guests should know before deciding how to divide their time that the parks are far from equal. Disneyland Park is the property's main draw and where most guests spend the bulk of their time. There's also Walt Disney Studios Park, which only has a couple of major attractions mixed in with a lot you can skip, making it the much weaker of the two parks.

Recognizing this lack of star power at the latter, Disney has started making incremental changes to Walt Disney Studios Park. Earlier this summer, a brand new land called Marvel Avengers Campus debuted in the park.

Like its counterpart in Anaheim, the land has a new "Spider-Man"-themed attraction and a lot of new characters and dining locations. Avengers Campus delivers a solid product just like it does in Anaheim, but it's not enough to redeem the park as a whole. Walt Disney Studios Park still has a long way to go.

Thankfully, there is more coming, with a "Frozen" land set to debut in 2024. Still, until that area opens, Walt Disney Studios Park remains a half-day park at best. If you're a frequent Disneyland visitor like me and my family, odds are you'll want to allot even less time for the park, as Paris' Avengers Campus isn't that different from what you'll find in Anaheim.

It can be done as a day trip

With so many other can't-miss attractions in the City of Light, it's understandably hard to justify spending too many days at a theme park. So, a lot of travelers visit Disneyland Paris as a day trip from the city, as it's only about a 40-minute train ride away from the city center.

If your time will be limited when you visit, know that it's still possible to get a solid overview of the parks in a single day. You'll be able to ride quite a few of the headliner attractions in that time, especially if you budget for a couple of Premier Access One passes. Since Walt Disney Studios Park lacks the same wow factor as Disneyland Park, you can easily get by with a single-park ticket instead of the park hopper upgrade.

That said, Disney fans would be remiss if they didn't set aside a little more time for the parks.

Disneyland Paris is nearly as large as Disneyland Resort, so you'll need more than a day to truly see it all, especially if you want to ride every unique attraction available. We allotted a full day and two half days (an evening on our arrival and a morning before flying elsewhere in Europe) for our Disneyland Paris visit and found it was just about the right amount of time for a family of Disney fans.

The food is not on par with the US parks

Travelers come from around the world to experience France's magnificent food scene. Unfortunately, there is very little of that fine cuisine at Disneyland Paris.

I had heard from friends and fellow Disney experts for many years that the food in Disneyland Paris was terrible, so my family had low expectations when it was time for our visit. Much to my surprise, everything wasn't inedible slop: Every quick-service meal and buffet we had was entirely adequate. In fact, the food was pretty similar in quality to an average quick-service meal you'll get at Disneyland or Disney World. Prices weren't excessively high, either.

Where the food faltered most was in the sit-down establishments. For example, my husband and daughter ate at Captain Jack's, a fine dining restaurant overlooking the Pirates of the Caribbean ride that reminded them of Disneyland Resort's Blue Bayou. They found the meal was quite expensive, especially since both of their dishes were extremely overcooked. I've heard similar complaints from friends who've dined at Bistrot Chez Rémy in recent years as well.

We found some other food inadequacies at Disneyland Paris, too. The parks simply don't have a lot of snack options or variety, a strange state of affairs given how the U.S. parks churn out new, Instagrammable treats for every holiday or special event under the sun.

Disneyland Paris also doesn't keep all its in-park restaurants open full-time. A number of quick-service options close before the dinner hour, leaving pretty slim pickings for guests who haven't made reservations at pricier sit-down restaurants.

To avoid being disappointed during your visit, do as we did and make food as little of a focus of your trip as possible. Skip the expensive table-service restaurants and instead plan in advance to eat some utilitarian theme park basics like chicken fingers, pizza and burgers at quick-service establishments. As long as you check in advance so you know which options are open, particularly later in the day, you'll have no trouble filling empty stomachs.

Service isn't quite up to Disney standards

While I hate to be a stereotypical American complaining about French service, the reality is that there are subjective cultural differences that many visitors to Disneyland Paris will probably perceive when it comes to service. France just doesn't have the same tradition of effusive, overly friendly customer service that guests who frequent the American (or even the Asian) Disney parks are used to.

That's not to say that the customer service in Disneyland Paris is poor. We found most cast members quite courteous and even had a couple of magical moments with a select few. We were also impressed by the fact that every cast member we encountered spoke English, which we found helpful since none of us speak French.

Still, cast members were noticeably more blunt in tone and less visible everywhere in the parks. I got the distinct impression that there were fewer cast members per capita in the Paris parks than in other Disney parks I have visited. This was especially evident at the park entrances, where cast members were in short supply for morning rope drop. Clueless guests were trying to scan their tickets and passes at the turnstiles only to encounter errors and slow down the lines considerably at a pivotal time.

Ultimately, park operations felt a little more like a regional theme park in America than the gold standard of Disney efficiency and warmth.

The parks' beauty is its own attraction

What Disneyland Paris lacks in customer service it more than makes up for in beauty.

Disneyland Park is easily the most beautiful theme park I've visited. It feels like a microcosm of the well-designed city of Paris itself, with wide pathways surrounded by colorful, meticulously maintained landscaping. Many of the ride buildings have bold theming that commands your attention, such as the Jules Verne-inspired Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain.

This unique atmosphere means that guests should approach a visit to the resort a little differently. Disneyland Paris is a park that is meant to be savored. If you run from ride to ride all day, you'll miss a major part of what makes the property so special.

We slowed down during parts of our trip and made time to explore some of the non-ride attractions and specially themed play areas (which are far more ubiquitous than in the U.S. parks). We found these areas sparked the curiosity of our kids, who enjoyed wandering the meandering pathways and playing in spaces like Alice's Curious Labyrinth and Skull Rock.

Another visual delight was the arcades — enclosed pathways that run behind the shops of Main Street U.S.A. These pathways serve the practical purpose of moving big crowds but in a visually stunning setting. Of course, the awe-inspiring Disneyland Paris castle is another gorgeous feature that no guest should miss.

Many attractions are familiar — but uniquely different

A quick glance at the map of Disneyland Paris may give the impression that the park is largely a clone of the Magic Kingdom in Florida or Disneyland Park in California . Sure, quite a few attractions, such as Peter Pan's Flight and Mad Hatter's Tea Cups, are similar to what you'll find in the U.S., but a number of rides at Disneyland Paris actually have unique twists all their own despite looking like carbon copies of their American counterparts.

For example, two thrill rides, Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain, are far more intense than those in the U.S. As such, roller coaster lovers should make a beeline for them. Parents, on the other hand, will probably need to pause and consider whether more cautious kids in the family are ready for the more intense experience.

Additionally, spooky rides like Phantom Manor (similar to the Haunted Mansion) and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror have very different storylines than the ones in the U.S. Both have an edgier and more morbid vibe thanks to the French influence.

Even some children's rides have new angles. Casey Jr., for example, is actually a mild kiddie coaster rather than the slow-moving train that sits in Anaheim. Storybook Land Canal Boats brings guests through different fairy-tale scenes than the ones that appear at Disneyland Resort, too.

Given how many rides vary here despite their similar theming, you should err on the side of riding as much as possible while at Disneyland Paris. Though you may think you've experienced a ride before in Florida or California, chances are it will offer a very new experience.

On-property hotels fall short

For guests who plan to visit for more than a day trip, there are seven on-property hotels to choose from.

As you may expect, Disneyland Paris is no exception to the price premium you'll pay to stay on property when visiting Disney. Still, there are a couple of key benefits, including the proximity to the parks and the early entry benefit (known here as Extra Magic Hours), that swayed our family to stay at the on-site Disney Sequoia Lodge.

A moderately-priced hotel with national park lodge theming, the Disney Sequoia Lodge's rooms and common areas felt extremely tired and dated. In fact, the hotel was nowhere near as nice as the newly renovated value resorts at Walt Disney World such as Disney's Pop Century Resort , despite being more expensive. As a result, it didn't seem to offer as much value as what we're used to getting when staying at American Disney properties.

Other properties like the flagship Disneyland Hotel, which sits right above the Disneyland Paris park gates, may provide more value but are currently unavailable due to an extensive renovation expected to wrap up in 2024.

In the meantime, the most luxurious option is the newly renovated Disney Hotel New York — The Art of Marvel. While it is visually stunning, my family couldn't justify paying peak summer prices of more than $800 a night to stay in a small hotel room that had two double beds and was a 15-minute walk from the gates.

Given the shortcomings of these hotels, you may find it hard to stomach spending hundreds of dollars on a room that's officially on property. So, if you're on a tighter budget, you may be better served by staying off-property, especially if you wouldn't use the early entry benefit.

Bottom line

While there were a couple of ways in which the French parks underdelivered, Disneyland Paris is mostly a positive and enjoyable experience.

Disneyland Paris has a number of surprising and delightful differences that Disney fans will enjoy, from its beautiful grounds to unique attraction variations. Visiting Disneyland Paris also requires less preparation and touring the parks there feels less stressful.

In a way, we found our trip replicated the experience of visiting the U.S. parks a decade or more ago when the costs and the stakes of taking a theme park vacation weren't quite so high. Because of this, Disneyland Paris is well worth a Paris detour.

How Do You Get to Disneyland Paris?

Disneyland Paris is just an hour away from central Paris by train. You just hop on the RER A train (tickets are €7.60 each way) and get off at the last stop,  Marne-la-Vallée–Chessy. From the train station it’s just a two minute walk to the entrance of Disneyland!

You can buy tickets for the RER at most Metro stations throughout Paris. If you are coming directly from CDG airport, you can take a TGV train to the park and get there in just twelve minutes. There is also a direct Eurostar train to Disneyland Paris from London !

How Long Do You Need at Disneyland Paris?

The nice thing about Disneyland Paris is that it’s a lot smaller than Disney World in Florida. Instead of five parks, there are only two: Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park. Both of the parks are pretty small, and they are located just a five minute walk away from each other.

So while you need at least a few days to a week for Disney World in Florida, you can easily do all of Disneyland Paris in just one day! Of course, if you really want to spend more time at the parks, you could do an overnight trip and spend two full days at the parks.

Every time I have been to Disneyland Paris, I’ve just gone as a day trip from Paris and I’ve had plenty of time to do everything I wanted to do.

However, I do recommend getting to the parks right when they open and taking the last train out after the parks close for maximizing your time!

How Much Are Tickets and Where Can You Buy Them?

A one day ticket that will get you into BOTH parks will cost you somewhere between $78 and $114 depending on the date of your visit. (Prices in USD.)

There are three different price classes: Mini, Magic, and Super Magic. Basically the prices change based on dates. On most weekdays, you can get a Mini ticket (the cheapest.) But on weekends and around holidays, you will probably have to pay more for a Magic or Super Magic ticket.

• Buy 1-day Disneyland Paris ticket for a specific date.
• Buy flexible date 1-day ticket to Disneyland Paris

Make sure to select the one day, two park option for your ticket so you can get into both parks.

I recommend buying your tickets online beforehand, because they are sometimes cheaper on the website and you won’t have to wait in line to buy tickets once you get to the park!

Tip:  Change the language on the Disneyland Paris website to see if you can get a better price! Sometimes there are different prices and promotions based on which language you select (Try US English, UK English, French, Italian, and German.)

When Is the Best Time for a Disneyland Paris Day Trip?

If you can, going on a weekday is your best bet for a Disneyland Paris day trip. The tickets are usually cheaper and the parks are much less crowded!

The exception to this is if you go during August (French holiday month) or around a big holiday like Christmas or Easter.

The least crowded times of year to visit Disneyland Paris is fall (September through November) according to this Disneyland Paris crowd calendar.

It’s important to keep in mind that at some times of the year, a lot of the restaurants and attractions at the parks might be closed for the season or for refurbishment. Make sure to check the Disneyland Paris website before planning your trip to see what will be closed while you’re there.

When I visited in March and April, a LOT of things were closed. This can be a bit of a shock compared to the American parks, where very few restaurants and attractions close, even during the off season.

What to Do at Disneyland Paris

There are two parks at Disneyland Paris: Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park. Disneyland Park is the larger and more popular of the two, and has Sleeping Beauty’s castle.

I recommend that you start your day at Walt Disney Studios Park because it’s really small and you can hit most of the rides in just a few hours. Around lunchtime, leave and go over to Disneyland Park, which is literally just a five-minute walk away.

I’m going to list the best rides/attractions at each park in a minute, but first I want to talk about the FastPass system at Disneyland Paris.

FastPasses at Disneyland Paris

If you’ve been to other Disney parks, you are probably familiar with FastPasses. They are free tickets that let you skip the line for a ride at a scheduled time. You don’t have to pay extra for FastPasses – they are included with your park admission.

Disneyland Paris still uses the “old system” of FastPasses where you get a paper ticket from a kiosk.

To get a FastPass for a ride, simply go up to the FastPass kiosk at the entrance for that ride. Then insert your park ticket and select which time you would like to come back and ride the ride. You can only have one FastPass at a time, so you should pick the earliest time available for the ride.

The machine will print out a FastPass ticket for you with the one-hour time slot for you to return to that ride and enter through the FastPass line (which usually only takes a few minutes.)

FastPasses are a great way to go on rides that normally have long lines without having to wait nearly as long. While you’re waiting for your FastPass time slot to come around, you can take a break to eat or go on other rides that don’t have as long lines.

You can get unlimited FastPasses throughout the day, but you can only have one at a time. This is why I recommend getting the earliest time slot available and then immediately getting another FastPass after you use the previous one, and so on throughout the day.

Walt Disney Studios Park

Walt Disney Studios Park is where you should start your day and spend the morning before heading over to Disneyland Park around lunchtime.

Here are my favorite rides at Walt Disney Studios Park that you cannot miss!

• Ratatouille (FastPass)
• Tower of Terror (FastPass)
• Crush’s Coaster
• Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster (FastPass)

Walt Disney Studios Park is small and gets a bad reputation, because it’s not as good as Disneyland Park, but you definitely should not miss it because it does have some really fun and unique rides.

Disneyland Park

There are so many more rides at Disneyland Park than Walt Disney Studios, so that’s why I recommend spending the majority of your day there!

These are my favorite rides and attractions that I think everyone should do at Disneyland Park:

Rides: 

• Hyperspace Mountain (FastPass)
• Indiana Jones (FastPass)
• Star Tours (FastPass)
• Pirates of the Caribbean
• Snow White and the Seven Dwarves
• It’s a Small World
• Peter Pan’s Flight (FastPass)
• Mad Hatter’s Teacups
• Phantom Manor
• The Carousel

Attractions:

• Sleeping Beauty’s Castle (the prettiest Disney castle – and you can walk through it!)
• Alice in Wonderland Labyrinth
• Nightly fireworks show

You can easily get most of these rides and attractions done in a single day if the park is not too crowded and you maximize your usage of the FastPasses.

However, if the parks are crowded, you may need to choose your top rides to focus on.

Language Barriers at Disneyland Paris

About half the attractions at Disneyland Paris are in French and half in English. This is a lot of fun, even if you don’t speak French. You will still recognize the songs and be able to follow along with the storylines if you’re a Disney fan, and the “plots” of attractions are all easy to understand.

All of the employees at Disneyland Paris speak at least a little English, so you shouldn’t encounter much of a language barrier if you don’t speak French. However, it’s still good to come prepared with some basic French phrases like hello ( bonjour ), please ( s’il vous plaît ), and thank you ( merci ) to be polite.

Cultural Differences at Disneyland Paris

Many Americans who have been to the Florida or California theme parks are surprised by the “rudeness” of employees at Disneyland Paris (ex. waiters who aren’t overly attentive, or customer service employees who aren’t extra-cheerful.)

However, most of these these are just cultural differences between the U.S. and France and shouldn’t be perceived as a personal slight.

In France, waiters don’t hover and constantly check in with you throughout your meal because that’s actually considered rude of  them . (French people would prefer to be uninterrupted during their meal.)

Waiters also don’t work for tips in France and are paid a living wage, so there’s also no extra incentive to be overly attentive to customers.

Additionally, many employees at Disneyland Paris see it as just another job (as opposed to the fanatical Disney obsession a lot of the U.S. employees have.) It’s not to say that Disneyland Paris employees are bad at their jobs or don’t care, but just keep in mind that the expectations for customer service are different in France.

Other Tips for Your Disneyland Paris Day Trip

So now that I’ve covered just about everything, I wanted to give you a few more tips for making your day trip to Disneyland Paris absolutely magical:

Download the Disneyland Paris app.  It will let you check ride wait times throughout the day.

Bring a jacket.  Even if you go during summer, it can still be really chilly in the morning and evening in Paris. This is definitely one of the coldest Disney parks— nothing like Florida or California!

Eat breakfast before and bring a lunch. The food at Disneyland Paris is expensive, and in my opinion, not as good as the food at other Disney parks. You may only want to do one meal at an in-park restaurant. Here’s a list of the best and worst Disneyland Paris restaurants.

Use the single rider line.  Some of the more popular rollercoasters have a single rider line, so if you don’t mind not sitting with your friends/family on the ride, this is a good way to skip the lines.

Bring a portable charger .  I use this portable charger to keep my phone charged all day at the parks.

Get the earliest FastPasses slots.  When visiting Disneyland Paris, you will get unlimited FastPasses but you can only get a second one after you use the first one, and so on. For this reason you should schedule your first FastPass of the day at the earliest available time slot so you can continue to maximize the amount that you get throughout the day.

During the day, Paris is superb, and when night falls, it’s movie-worthy magic. If you have four days to spend in the French capital, you better believe I have the itinerary to guide you. From one Francophile to another.

Paris Travel Guide

Before we get to the 4 day itinerary in Paris, I’ve put together a quick guide to help you get to and find your way around Paris. As well as some advice on where to stay! Let’s take a closer look at the essential bits to consider as you plan a Paris 4-day itinerary.

Getting to Paris

Paris has two passenger airports, the larger Charles de Gaulle Airport and Paris Orly, which is a further distance from the city. France’s National airline is Air France, but so many large and small airlines fly to Paris daily from all across the world. 

I’d recommend looking up flights on EasyJet, RyanAir, and Vueling, as they have flights to Paris (and you can find some really cheap deals)!

You can take a look at this site for Paris Orly Airport transfers to the city center for a bit more information. The transfers aren’t too complicated and will be less expensive than booking a taxi. If you are traveling with a large family or do have a lot of luggage, then I’d recommend looking into a Paris Airport mini-van transfer .

If you’re already in Europe (in a neighboring country), Paris is also serviced regularly by train and bus routes from locations across Europe. Gare du Nord is Paris’ major central train station where most long-distance trains arrive.

Rail Europe is a good source of information on getting the train to Paris, especially if you want to take some travel stress off, as there are numerous options available to Gare du Nord. For budget bus travel, try Eurolines or Flixbus (previously Megabus).

Getting Around Paris

Navigating Paris is easy, straightforward, and surprisingly enjoyable! They have a historical underground Metro that is reliable and mostly on time, and it runs from early morning until 1 AM on weekdays and 2 AM on weekends.

There are tons of stops that will take you right where you need to go, and what’s cool is that, like a lot of European cities, Paris metro stations are often named after their nearest major landmark. Stations with names like Bastille, Louvre, Notre-Dame-des-Champs, and Opéra should at least help you get near to where you need to go.

It goes without saying that walking or cycling during your few days in Paris will maximize what you can see and is a great way to find hidden gems along the way – or to stop off for copious French snacks and drinks (and lots of French wine) along the way.

While I would definitely say that exploring by foot is always the best in a new city, to make the most out of your four days in Paris, I would suggest getting the hang of the public transportation system!

In addition, Paris has an extensive bus network. And you can even take to the water and enjoy a river cruise from a range of tour providers that travel up the Seine.

If you have a finite amount of time when visiting Paris but want to see as much as you can, I’d recommend booking a Paris Hop-on Hop-off Bus Tour .

It’s a double-decker bus that has two routes covering the majority of the major city’s attractions and is a fantastic & time-efficient way of getting around. These are common all over the world, but Paris is one of the only places I’ve really found they work great and are worth the money!

Where to Stay for 4 Days in Paris

Choosing somewhere incredible to stay when visiting Paris can be quite tricky, as there are dozens of awesome neighborhoods and a sea of epic Airbnbs and hotels across the city.

Boasting free wifi, an in-house bar, and scenic views overlooking the city, you really can’t go wrong with this hostel. Also known for being the most solo traveler-friendly hostel in Paris, you are bound to meet some awesome new people to take on this incredible city both by day and by night.

Now that we’ve discussed a few important aspects of planning your 4 days in Paris let’s discuss the best things to do during your trip! While this itinerary is most well-suited for first-timers, it’s filled with tons of solid info for previous visitors!

The Best Paris Itinerary: 4 Days in Paradise

Now, without further delay, let’s get into the main event. Here’s what I consider to be the best 4 day Paris itinerary because doing Paris in a day would be a great injustice.

4 Days in Paris Itinerary, Day 1: The Paris Tourist Trail

So it’s your first day in incredible Paris, and I hope you’re well-rested because the City of Lights has so much to offer! While Paris is a huge city, navigating your way around to its world-famous landmarks is pretty easy, as they are all located in relatively close proximity to the city center.

Paris is well organized into 20 compact “arrondissements” or districts. The 1st to the 7th arrondissements are where most of the major tourist magnets are located. A tour through these 7 arrondissements will take you to some of the biggest and best Paris sights.

Trocadero & The Eiffel Tower

Paris’ most iconic landmark, The Eiffel Tower, stands proud against the city’s skyline and draws in over 7 million tourists every year. I think it would be the perfect place to begin your vacation, even if you’re just spending two days in Paris!

Climb its 1710 steps or take the elevator to enjoy unrivaled views from what is arguably the best lookout point in Paris. Not keen on heights? Enjoy the view of the Eiffel Tower from the lush green expanse of the surrounding Trocadéro Gardens. Or lounge around the Champ de Mars gardens that surround the Eiffel Tower to people watch or enjoy the soothing Parisian sun.

If you take the metro to the Trocadéro stop, you’ll be rewarded with a gorgeous view overlooking the Eiffel Tower, and then you can walk down across the street to climb the steps to the top.

Also, don’t miss the famous nightly light show, where the Tower glitters and shines magnificently, wowing spectators across the city. No 4 days in Paris would be complete without seeing the Eiffel Tower during the day and at night!

Travel Tip : The Eiffel Tower is pretty much always going to be busy (especially during the peak summer season), so I’d recommend looking into a tour/package that includes a skip-the-line pass!

For example, this Direct Access Eiffel Tower Ticket is a pretty fantastic deal for first-time visitors to Paris! Another fantastic option is to book a guided Eiffel Tower tour with a Seine River cruise as an amazing added extra.

The Arc de Triomphe

If there’s just one option for what to see in Paris in 4 days, undoubtedly, it would be the Arc de Triomphe. An iconic monument that the French are truly proud of, the Arc de Triomphe stands at the center of the Place Charles de Gaulle and creates a photo-worthy junction of twelve avenues that create a star effect with the Arc at the middle.

Standing since 1836, the Arc de Triomphe and its incredible iconography is an ode to the patriotism and triumphs of Paris.

“ A key place of major national events . Wanted by Napoleon in 1806, the Arc de Triomphe was inaugurated in 1836 by French King, Louis Philippe, who dedicated it to the armies of the Revolution and the Empire. The Unknown Soldier was buried at the base of the arch in 1921. The flame of remembrance is rekindled every day at 18:30.”

It’s located about a pleasant 2.0km stroll (also easily reached by metro), but you can read through this article,  “ Things to do between the Arc of Triumph and the Eiffel Tower“ for some more fun ideas!

Hours of operation vary per time of the year, and ticket prices cost 12 euros on the official website (cheaper for youth). Save some time, though, and book a Skip-the-Line Arc de Triomphe Tickets , as it’s actually cheaper to book in advance, and you won’t have to wait in line.

The Champs-Élysées

Paris’ most famous street, the Champs-Élysées , stretches almost 2km from the Arc de Triomphe down to the Place de la Concorde!

The avenue is marked by endless stores, cafes, restaurants, and in the lead-up to Christmas, traditional European Christmas markets and gorgeous twinkling lights. You could spend one day in Paris just wandering up and down this central hive of activity.

The Avenue des Champs Élysées is visited every day by nearly 300,000 people and is one of the most picture-perfect streets you’ll encounter while visiting Paris! This is another place I’d recommend visiting once by day and once during your 4 nights in Paris.

It’s truly magnificent, and you’ll get swept away by the glamourous shopping opportunities, boutique restaurants, and smaller souvenir stores. Even if you’re not looking to spend any money, a stroll along the 2km stretch is a must for any first-time visitor to Paris.

Place de la Concorde

The largest public square in Paris, the Place de la Concorde sits at one end of the Champs-Élysées and covers 19 acres. During the violence of the French Revolution, this square saw many public executions, including the famous guillotining of Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, Robespierre, and other historical figures.

But the days of bloodshed at the square are behind us – thankfully – and now it’s a visitor favorite thanks to its monuments such as the recognizable Obelisk, its fountains, and its neighboring gardens.

For the movie fans out there, you’ll recognize this place from The Devil Wears Prada . It’s where, in the final scene, Andy (Anne Hathaway) dumps her phone into the fountain!   

Notre Dame Cathedral

The world watched as France’s most loved church Notre Dame burnt before our eyes in early 2019. Thankfully, much of the structure as well as its exquisite stained glass windows were saved, and rebuilding is already underway.

In the meantime, when you visit Paris, you can still marvel at this Gothic architectural icon from the outside. From the Place de la Concorde, it’s just a short walk along the Seine River (passing by the Louvre, which you’ll visit later), admiring beautiful bridges, museums, and scenery.

And you can only genuinely say you’ve visited Paris after an excursion to Ile de la Cité and the world-famous Notre Dame Cathedral. Although few walking tours of the grounds surrounding Notre Dame de Paris could provide the same experience as setting foot inside, for now, it will have to do.

The River Seine

The romantic River Seine winds through the center of Paris, alongside some of the city’s biggest landmarks. An authentic, albeit touristy, thing to do in Paris is to head out on the waters of the River Seine on a scenic boat ride. There are many amazing Seine cruise options, and some river cruises include dinner and drinks.

While you’ll no doubt find yourself wandering alongside this famous river on your journey through Paris (if you walk along this itinerary), if the sun is out, why not grab a cafe latte or a picnic and enjoy the riverside view for a while, resting your weary feet?

Travel Tip : Parisians have a notorious reputation for being rude and unhelpful, but I can tell you this is simply not the case! My experience with locals while in Paris has always been great. Many speak English extremely well, so don’t be afraid to ask for directions.

I’m positive they will be more than happy to point you in the right direction. Parisians have great pride in their city, their language, and their history, so even learning basic greetings in French before arriving in Paris could go a long way towards ingratiating you with the locals when you need it.

Finally, head to the eternally cool Parisian suburb of Montmartre – famed for being the home of artists and writers throughout history – and challenge yourself to climb the 270 steps to Sacre-Coeur instead of taking the funicular up.

Your legs may turn to jelly (if they’re not already from your long day of walking), but I guarantee the view from the top, either during the day or at night, is even better than the feeling of accomplishment at getting there.

Explore the gorgeous Basilica of Sacré-Coeur, and afterward, treat yourself to a sweet pastry and a fabulous French coffee in one of Montmartre’s achingly hip artist haunts. Get lost in all the art, enjoy dinner at one of the many restaurants, and watch the sunset dip beneath the horizon.

4 Days in Paris Itinerary, Day 2: Palace of Versailles (or Disneyland) Day Trip

No 4 days in Paris would be complete without making the pilgrimage to the former residence of the ill-fated French Royal Family, the majestic royal Palace of Versailles.

The official royal residence from 1682 until the French Revolution of 1789, Versailles, is only 20 kilometers (12 miles) from the center of Paris. Spend the day exploring the incredible Grand Palais, Gardens of Versailles, the historical Hall of Mirrors, and so many other features of this massive palace and its surroundings.

Almost 8 million visitors a year walk in the footsteps of royalty at Versailles – will you be next?

• The Palace is open every day except on Mondays from 9:00 am , but the estate of Trianon and the Coach Gallery only open in the afternoon. The last admission for a day trip is at 6.00 pm.
• The Park and Gardens are open every day. Access to the Versailles Gardens is free except on days of fountain shows.

How to get from Paris to Versailles

Train: Getting to the Château de Versailles by train is the cheapest option, and a round-trip ticket will only cost 7.10€ per person and takes about an hour and 15 minutes on average.

All you’ll need to do is get to the nearest metro stop that intersects with the RER Line C and then book tickets to “Versailles Château Rive Gauche” station. It’s pretty simple really, and you could always ask the staff at the metro for assistance.

Uber: If you’re traveling with a group of friends, it might just be easier to hop in an Uber. It’ll save you time for sure and might not cost THAT much more if you divide it evenly. A one-way Uber cost should cost around 35-40 euros.

Versailles travel tip: Skip the line at Versailles and pre-book tickets ! Summertime at Versailles is peak tourist season, and who wants queues cutting into your precious time in Paris? On the other hand, if you have an entire day to spend at Versailles, I don’t see why you wouldn’t.

If you’re traveling to Paris during the busy months, I recommend booking a skip-the-line ticket ahead for most major activities and landmarks that require entrance tickets.

Versailles Guided Tour : Enjoy an exclusive guided tour of one of the largest palaces in the world.

No matter what you do though, I’m sure you’ll fall in love with Versailles during your 4-day trip to Paris! It’s truly one of the most beautiful buildings and gardens I’ve experienced in all of Europe, and you could spend all day there!

I’d personally recommend renting a row-boat for an hour and sailing along the Grand Canal! I’ve done that a few times, and it’s such an awesome experience.

Disneyland Paris

Are you traveling with kids or simply a big kid at heart and don’t want to miss a trip to Disneyland Paris on your short getaway to the French capital? The flagship European installment of the American mega-brand, Disneyland Paris, is just as captivating and fun-filled as its other global locations.

Disneyland travel tip: Disneyland Paris is only 20 miles (or 32 kilometers) from the center of Paris on the RER (Regional Express Network) train network. While it’s a great time and not far from central Paris, it’s actually recommended that you spend three to four days at Disneyland Paris.

If your trip to Paris is limited to four days and you want to see all the sights I recommend leaving a visit here until you have more time. If you’re happy to spend one day at Disney, though, go for it!

4 Days in Paris Itinerary, Day 3: The Louvre + Musée d’Orsay + SO MUCH ART

What city in the world is more synonymous with art than Paris? Besides Italy, it’s the home of more famous art than any other place in Europe and is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see these priceless creations for yourself. Spend your third day in this magnificent city, taking in some of the world’s most important – and beautiful – art.

The Louvre is the most famous art museum (and most visited) and gallery on the planet, and you’ll need to spend at least a few hours or half a day here to see even a fraction of the entire gallery’s contents.

The city has so many great galleries and museums, but my recommendations will put you up close and personal with some of the greats of the art world and the best things to see in Paris in 4 days.

Don’t miss out on visiting these galleries and museums during your 4 days in Paris.

The Louvre Museum

The French Revolution saw the end of the Louvre’s run as an aristocracy and royalty-only zone, and 10 million annual visitors to the museum can thank the revolutionaries for giving Paris’ art back to the people.

Over 200 years on, the Louvre houses 36,000 artworks and 380,000 objects, all on display to the general population. Some of its most famous pieces include Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and the mysterious Venus de Milo.

For film buffs planning a 4-day trip to Paris, the Louvre featured as a central character in The Da Vinci Code, and the museum gave unprecedented permission for its interiors to be used in the film.

Did you know : If you spent 1 minute looking at each and every piece of art and every object in the Louvre and kept this up for 8 hours per day, you’d wrap up the task of seeing everything in the museum in 75 days? That’s a lot of art! Clearly, even if you’re just planning to explore Paris in 3 days, a visit to the Louvre museum is a must.

Travel Tip : The Louvre Museum can get ridiculously busy thanks to the Mona Lisa, among other highlights. So I’d highly recommend booking a Louvre Museum: Timed Entrance Ticket (SKIP THE LINE) pass to take the stress out of your visit to the most famous museum in the capital.

The Musée D’Orsay et L’Orangerie

Second only to the Louvre in terms of popular galleries and museums in Paris, the Musée d’Orsay welcomes over 3 million visitors a year who come to see its many exhibitions and events. If you’ve ever dreamed of experiencing a Degas, Monet, Renoir, or Van Gogh masterpiece in person, the Musée d’Orsay does not – and will not – disappoint.

As well, head to the Musée de L’Orangerie gallery in Paris next and see Monet’s artistic masterpiece in the flesh. You’ll be surprised by how massive the entire Water Lilies piece is. It has its own room!

You could book an Orsay Museums Skip-the-Line Ticket to save some time as well. Alternatively, get yourself an art museum pass (like this Paris Museum Pass ) that allows you free range to visit a number of art museums, such as the Musée d’Orsay.

Monet’s Home in Giverny

If you’re a fan of the impressionist artist Claude Monet and your trip to Paris falls during the warmer months, don’t miss a chance to visit the great artist’s home in the town of Giverny .

It’s about a 40-60 minute journey from central Paris to Giverny, where you can see the water lillies that inspired Monet’s greatest work and wander through the home the artist resided in for almost 50 years. Monet’s home is open to visitors during the high season from late March to November 1st each year.

4 Days in Paris Itinerary, Day 4: Shopping & The Moulin Rouge

It’s your final day in Paris, and I’m sure you are really sad to be leaving. Don’t worry! I’ve got a day planned for you that will see you kiss the city goodbye in truly Parisian style!

Today is all about treating yo’self like any true Parisian who always makes time for. And that means hitting some of the city’s best stores and shopping streets to indulge in a little retail therapy to make the folks back home green with envy.

Stop by these Paris shopping hotspots and have your Euros at the ready.

Galeries Lafayette

If you’re feeling fancy, head to the Galeries Lafayette , the city’s most posh shopping experience. Standing since 1912, the Galeries Lafayette and its eye-catching Art Nouveau design are hands down one of the sights to see in Paris.

Located near the Paris Opera and spanning 70,000 square feet, it’s easy to see why this could be an epic day trip on its own. It sells a huge range of upmarket brands, including Balenciaga, Bulgari, Parisian icon Chanel and Hermès.

Shakespeare & Company

You’ve probably seen this charming little Paris bookstore pop up on your Instagram feed (or TV) more than once. After all, it’s a magnet for photo ops due to its place in pop culture.

Located on Paris’ Left Bank, Shakespeare & Company has been operating since 1919, despite moving locations once as a result of the Second World War. What makes it so special is that it was the hangout of iconic writers such as Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, and James Joyce during their years in Paris.

Since then, Shakespeare & Company has been immortalized in films such as Midnight in Paris and Before Sunset. If you’re a literature lover, this is without a doubt an unforgettable part of any noteworthy experience when you visit Paris.

Paris Flea Market

“ The Paris flea market is the largest antique market in the world. It comprises some 2,500 stores spread across 15 markets.”

If you’re all out of Euros or prefer a more thrifty shopping experience, the Paris Flea Market is where it’s at.

Open Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays , this market is a Mecca for locals and tourists looking for a bargain. It’s the biggest antique market in the world and has 2500 stalls. It’s a bit of a hike from the center of Paris to get there, but well worth it for a vintage luxury label treasure for just a few gold coins.

The Moulin Rouge

Moulin Rouge Show with Champagne : Revel in the sumptuous settings of the Moulin Rouge, the world-renowned cabaret in Paris, with a ticket to the spectacular show “Féerie”. Sip on sparkling Champagne as you savor international performances filled to the brim with feathers and rhinestones.

Complete with wine, feathers, lights, and sequins, there really is no other place than the Moulin Rouge as an icon among the best of Paris.

Picnic at the Eiffel Tower

Perhaps, one of the best and simple activities you can do while you’re in Paris is enjoying a spread of delicious bread, cured meats, cheese, and wine while soaking up the atmosphere around the Eiffel Tower, one of Paris’ major attractions!

I do this EVERY time I go to Paris, and it’s awesome. You’ll see tons of people doing the same thing (and it could be easy to meet new people), drinking wine and watching the Eiffel Tower sparkle every hour at night.

Considering the majestic and lush gardens of the Champ de Mars that surround the Eiffel Tower indulging in a lazy afternoon picnic is a surefire winner. It’s also one of the best ways to spend only half a day if you’re pressed for time.

At 210 meters tall, the Tour Montparnasse will provide one of the best views in Paris that will impress everyone and make your Paris itineraries truly memorable! Tickets cost 12 euros, and I’d recommend heading up the short walk around sunset so you can admire the views both during sunlight and nighttime.

The Paris Catacombs Tour

A veritable labyrinth in the heart of underground Paris, the Catacombs were installed in the tunnels of former quarries.

These passageways date back to the 13th century, but back then, they didn’t have the deathly allure they have now. Back then, there was a growing need for burial space and a way to support an ever-expanding Paris. From this, the catacombs were born.

The Catacombs of Paris (Les Catacombes de Paris) is an underground network beneath the streets of Paris and the final resting place of over 6 million people! Over half a million visitors head down to the darkness of the Catacombs each year, whereupon entry, they are greeted with a sign reading “Stop. This is the empire of death”.

A guided walking tour through these underground tunnels is truly fascinating and would be a fantastic addition to your 4-Day Paris itinerary! And you won’t find a layout of these spooky tunnels on Google Maps, that’s for sure.

It’s definitely not comparable to, for example, a tour of Notre Dame de Paris, but it will stick in your memory for a very long time.

What to Eat During your Paris 4 Day Itinerary

Paris is impressive enough on its own, but if you’re a foodie, Paris, and French cuisine is an unmissable degustation experience as well. French food is diverse, unique, and satisfying and has something for everyone, and this wouldn’t be the best Paris itinerary if I left out some of the most tantalizing dishes to try.

I highly recommend trying these iconic French foods during your 4 days in Paris.

Snails (“escargot”)

Probably the appetizer we most associate with France, you’ll be surprised by just how delicious and mouth-watering snails cooked traditionally in garlic really are.

Frogs legs (“grenouilles”)

They may be small and relatively meatless (and not at all filling), but frog legs are a French food bucket list item – so you have to give it a try.

Cheese (“fromage”)

There are between 1000 and 1600 French cheeses, depending on who you believe. And while a short four days in Paris isn’t long enough to sample them all, you can try your best. Pass the Camembert, please?

We all love croissants, but these freshly baked, buttery pastries taste so much better when eaten in their native Paris alongside a coffee in a beautiful French cafe.

Bouillabaisse

This hearty French fish stew can be found on almost any menu in Paris. Bouillabaisse is best enjoyed with a crusty French baguette in a warm and cozy Paris restaurant on a cold winter day.

Steak-Frites

Essentially the French version of steak and fries, steak-frites is the perfect meal choice when you can’t make sense of that French menu but you’re ravenous. Just don’t tell the Belgians you ate it in France. After all, they lay claim to this filling dish.

These colorful and delicious pastry cakes are simply to die for and are widely sold all over Paris! If you find your way over to Pierre Herme (which is known for selling the best Macarons in Paris), you’ll be able to find unique flavors and unbeatable taste and can buy a full box to bring home to friends and family.

I know champagne technically isn’t a food, but you can’t tackle a Paris trip plan and not drink the bubbly stuff in its country of origin? Cheers!

Basic French Words & Phrases to Learn for 4 Days in Paris

French people are very proud of their language, and while many folks in Paris do speak English, I’d strongly suggest learning and speaking some basic French when you’re in Paris. Here are 10 words to get you started, but I’d also suggest downloading Duolingo or another language-learning app!

• Hi! – Salut! ( Sal-oo )
• Hello – Bonjour
• Do you speak French? – Parlez vous français? (Formal) ( parlay voo fronsays )
• How are you? – Ça va? (Informal) ( sa va )
• Goodbye – Au revoir  ( oh revwa )
• Thanks a lot – Merci beaucoup ( mersee boocoo )
• Please – S’il vous plait ( see voo play )
• Excuse me – Excusez moi ( excusay mwa )
• Where is – Ou est ( oo – eh )
•  Yes / No – Oui / Non – ( wee / no )

Remember: French is a unique language in that there are a lot of different unwritten “rules” for how to speak to some people versus others. Talking to strangers or elders follows a more formal language structure while talking to friends or peers is more informal.

If you’re visiting France, it’s usually best to revert to the formal when speaking to locals – just to be safe! One of the best things about the French is that they are happy even if you just try to speak their language!
