Discussing the new show, Andrea Morricone said in a statement: “This is bound to be a bittersweet experience: I of course miss my father greatly, but to be able honour him by conducting a full symphony orchestra and choir playing his phenomenal music will be a great and deeply emotional experience and I hugely look forward to celebrating him with his fans around the World.”

Following Morricone’s death at the age of 91 last year, fellow composer Hans Zimmer called him “an icon” .

He added: “Ennio taught me that the simplest, purest and honest melody is the hardest to write. That it’s not supposed to be easy, that it’s a profound mission we are on that we must take seriously and humbly when we write music.

“And that our job is to be the director’s best friend and inspire him. A good conductor breathes with the orchestra as one.”

Directly following his retirement from the stage in 2019, Ennio Morricone began working on a concert production that was to succeed him. By mid-2020, the Maestro had finished curating the blueprint for a new production.

The production will include iconic scenes from the greatest classic films, effect lighting and with the Maestro’s long-time soloists to be featured on stage alongside a symphony orchestra and choir, under the baton of his son Andrea Morricone. On July 6th 2020, Ennio Morricone passed at age 91.

The show, will be a unique, large scale arena production, curated by Ennio Morricone and conducted by his son, Andrea Morricone. The program will include iconic film scenes and never before seen footage of the Maestro and some of his illustrious collaborators. The programme will also pay homage to the Maestro, with never before seen footage of the legend at work, including interview outtakes.

Ennio Morricone has composed over 500 scores for cinema and television as well as over 100 absolute music works. Highlights, which will also be included in the new program, are his scores for Cinema Paradiso , Once Upon a time in America, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, The Untouchables and The Mission .

Discussing the new show, Andrea Morricone said: “This is bound to be a bittersweet experience: I of course miss my father greatly, but to be able honor him by conducting a full symphony orchestra and choir playing his phenomenal music will be a great and deeply emotional experience and I hugely look forward to celebrating him with his fans around the world.”

Floris Douwes, producer for GEALive adds: “It was a life-defining experience to be touring with Ennio for nearly 7 years and a blessing that we were able to create this new production with him by life in the knowledge that we would be staging a concert that had his full blessings. Fans so often asked for a concert with film clips. We will now honor that request in a way that is respectful of the Maestro’s artistic legacy.”

Maestro Andrea Morricone will personally conduct the concerts. The concert in London will be performed by the Philharmonic Orchestra Flanders, accompanied by a choir of over 50 singers.

...music is intangible, it has no form, it is like a dream: it only exists if it is performed, taking shape in the mind of the listener.

With over 500 films and television scores bearing his name- composer, orchestrator and conductor Ennio Morricone (born 10 November 1928) from Rome, Italy has dedicated the last seven decades providing monumental musical pieces adding personal touches to his compositions, attributing to his influential and prolific stature as a musical legend.

Born with music in his veins and inspired by his trumpeter father who played in several orchestras, Morricone began composing at age six. As his innate talent was realised he soon embarked on becoming classically trained, developing and nurturing his trumpet skills.

Early on in his career, Morricone began playing in various jazz bands to help support his family and soon took a hand at composing for radio and Italian pop stars. In 1954 he started ghost writing film scores under the monikers Dan Savio and Leo Nichols. In 1970 along with three other Italian composers, together they opened the Forum Music Village recording studio in Rome, Italy and it was here that Morricone would record his own scores. The studio itself attracted a host of recording artists with its quirky nature and its ability to record a church organ straight to the studio. Over the last few decades visitors have included: Quincy Jones, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Will.I.Am and Morrissey.

In his prolific long-standing career, Morricone has added his magic touch to the blockbuster Hollywood films: “Kill Bill” (2003), “Death Proof” (2007), “Inglorious Basterds” (2009) and “Django Unchained” (2012), as well as co-writing the Pet Shop Boys smash hit “It Couldn’t Happen Here” in 1973.

With four Grammy’s under his belt, in 2007 Morricone joined Alex North as one of the only composers to receive an honorary Oscar as presented by film legend Clint Eastwood. Later that year, a tribute album “We All Love Ennio Morricone” was released and featured performances from: Andrea Bocelli, Sarah Brightman, Bruce Springsteen, Celine Dion and Metallica.

Taking his compositions on the road accompanied by 180-200 musicians and vocalists, Morricone has travelled the globe performing in prestigious venues such as: Royal Albert Hall in London, England, Radio City Music Hall in New York City, U.S. and Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City, Mexico. Having influenced a number of artists extending across a variety of music genres including Jay Z, the Orb and Muse, Morricone’s extensive body of work in both the film and music industry has solidified his position as a virtuoso, influential and legendary composer.

Live reviews

Picture yourself on the first day of a music festival on the coast in the evening, the sun shining gloriously. You’ve already spent a couple of days taking in the delights of the local culture and nightlife but you’re feeling the drag. You need something to get you in the mood to kick off the music, to remind you why you’re at the festival. The crowd waits expectantly. So, heavy metal then? Nah – Real Estate. Perfect laid back jangly guitar pop to ease you in before the coming madness of rushing around to catch what you need to see, queuing for overpriced food and drink and jostling in packed crowds. Let Real Estate remind you why you came here – great music. An expertly constructed set made up of songs from new album Atlas and second album Days that put you at ease. They’re one of those bands with the mystical ability to make you feel like they made the music just for you; even better, that they’re playing to you in their hometown right now. They could change the song order and pluck a couple from the first album and the mood and quality would still be the same. The new stuff sounds great; the singalong to ‘It’s Real’ even better. I can picture it now: relaxed, smiling faces ready now for the three-day music slog ahead. What’s that? They even do a short cover of ‘Iron Man’ midset? Oh, they’ll please anyone.

Italian composer, conductor and multi-instrumentalist Ennio Morricone is one of the most celebrated and influential musicians of the past century due to his continued collaboration with contemporary artists and his compositions having been featured in over 500 televisions shows and films.

At an age of 86, he shows incredible dedication and passion for his music. An undoubtedly talented musician, the fact he is able to stand onstage at London's O2 and conduct a 100 strong orchestra with ease at his age is awe-inspiring. The sounds in which he creates through his composing and instructing is beautiful when he begins much loved tracks such as 'The Untouchables' and 'Deborah's Theme'. The band sounds divine as the luxurious notes fill the huge arena and resonate with the audience on an emotive level. Watching the conductor at work is a show in itself as he instructs with such passion and animation onstage.

Almost every track feels as though it deserves a standing ovation due to the magnificence of the classical music. When the finale of 'The Ecstasy of Gold' finishes the audience in its entirety rise simultaneously and applaud this humble, amazing artist.

Absolutely marvellous to see the great maestro in action.

The setting should have been more worthy of a master such as Ennio. The venue just seemed wrong. It would have been more at home in Koncerthuset, but that would probably have inflated the ticket price to too steep a level.

That being said, this was a good performance. The orchestra was great and the choir was magnificent. The addition of a solo soprano performance gave the Leone-themes the epicness they so decidedly deserve.

There were a few techincal sound glitches along the way, but nothing that took away from the overall feel of the evening. And that feel was a sense of awe at the massive work Ennio has created over the years, a feel of immense gratitude towards this small humble yet confident man with the greatest gift one could hope to ever get. And also a sense of bittersweetness in that while this was my first time to ever see the man perform, it might also be the last.

I do hope that I get one more chance before he joins that great big orchestra in the sky.

Thank you, Maestro.

It was a pleasure.

amazing concert, the thing about seeing Ennio live is that he is not just a conductor, he plays his own music and that's so rare. I mean, is great to see an orchestra live but in the end of the day they are covering the great composers of the past. In my opinion this is the closest we can get to having the chance of seeing like Mozart or Bach live back in the days.

I'm not really a fan of Ennio's work, I went because of my husband and I have to say that it was pretty good. Even though I haven't seen almost any of the movies he has composed for, I think everyone knows The good, the bad and the ugly, it was amazing hearing it live.

Fantastic show by the maestro, lasting more or less two hours and a half, including almost a half an hour break.

Only complaint is that the Palais 12 kept allowing late arrivals in almost half the show in, which was very annoying and disrupting.

ennio morricone orchestra tour

Ennio Morricone was born in Rome on 10 November 1928. His long artistic career includes a wide range of composition genres, from absolute concert music to applied music, working as orchestrator, conductor and composer for theatre, radio and cinema. In 1946, Ennio received his trumpet diploma and in 1954 he received his diploma in Composition at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia under the guidance of Goffredo Petrassi. He wrote his first concert works at the end of the 1950s, then worked as arranger for RAI (the Italian broadcasting company) and RCA-Italy. He started his career as a film music composer in 1961 with the film Il Federale directed by Luciano Salce. World fame followed through the Sergio Leone westerns:  A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965), The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (1966), Once Upon a Time in The West (1968) and A Fistful of Dynamite (1971).

In 1965, Morricone joined the improvisation group Nuova Consonanza. Since 1960, Morricone has scored over 450 films working with many Italian and international directors including Sergio Leone, Gillo Pontecorvo, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Bernardo Bertolucci, Giuliano Montaldo, Lina Wertmuller, Giuseppe Tornatore, Brian De Palma, Roman Polanski, Warren Beatty, Adrian Lyne, Oliver Stone, Margarethe Von Trotta, Henry Verneuil, Pedro Almodovar and Roland Joffè. His most famous films (other than the Italian westerns) include: The Battle of Algiers ; Sacco and Vanzetti ; Cinema Paradiso ; The Legend of 1900 , Malena ; The Untouchables;   Once Upon a Time in America ; The Mission and U-Turn . His absolute music production includes over 100 pieces composed from 1946 to the present day. In 2001, Ennio Morricone began a period of intense concert activity, conducting his film music and concert works for symphony orchestra and polyphonic choir in more than 100 concerts across Europe, Asia, USA, Central and South America.

During his long career, Ennio Morricone has also received many awards. As well as the Golden Lion and the honorary Oscar he was awarded in 2003, he has been presented with eight Nastri D’argento, five BAFTAs, five Oscar nominations, seven David Di Donatellos, three Golden Globes, one Grammy Award and one European Film Award. In 2009, the then President of the French Republic, Nicolas Sarkozy, also signed a decree appointing Morricone to the rank of Knight in the Order of the Legion of Honor.

In the recording field, Morricone has received 27 gold discs, seven platinum discs, three Golden Plates and the Critica discografica award for the music of the film Il Prato . The soundtrack from the film The Good, The Bad and The Ugly was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2009 while Morricone himself was awarded the prestigious Polar Music prize the following year.

His more recent works include scores for the television series Karol and The End of a Mystery , 72 Meters and Fateless . In the 21st century, Morricone’s music has been reused countless times for television and in movies including Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill (2003), Death Proof (2007), Inglourious Basterds (2009) and Django Unchained (2012). In 2007, Morricone received the Academy Honorary Award “for his magnificent and multifaceted contributions to the art of film music”.

In November 2013, he began a world tour to coincide with the 50th anniversary of his film music career and performed in locations such as the Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Santiago, Chile, Berlin, Germany (O2 World), Budapest, Hungary, and Vienna’s Stadhalle. On 6 February 2014, Riccardo Mutti conducted the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performing Morricone’s Voices from the Silence , a cantata Morricone composed in response to 9/11 to give voice to innocent victims. In Autumn 2014, Morricone participated in the recording of a documentary about himself by Giuseppe Tornatore, which is yet to be released.

His European tour resumed from February 2015 to March 2015, with 20 concerts in 12 countries, in Europe’s largest arenas, such as the O2 in London and the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam. Playing to a total of 150,000 spectators and with most of the shows sold out, Maestro Morricone’s My Life in Music European Arena Tour was a resounding success.

On 12 June 2015, Morricone conducted a mass composed in dedication to Pope Francis. It was commissioned by the Jesuit Order to commemorate the 200 year anniversary of the recongregation of the Jesuit Order at the Jesuit Church in Rome.

2015 also saw Morricone collaborate with Quentin Tarantino on an original soundtrack for the very first time. On December 7th 2015, The Hateful Eight had its world premiere followed by a Golden Globe nomination in the Best Original Score category the very next day.

Giuseppe Tornatore’s The Correspondence , with an original soundtrack composition by Morricone, is being released on January 15th 2016

A Masterful Career

As Bernard Herrmann is to Hitchcock, Nino Rota to Fellini, John Barry to James Bond and John Williams to Spielberg, Ennio Morricone is to Sergio Leone. It is impossible to recall Leone’s films in the mind’s eye or ear – from A Fistful of Dollars (1964) via The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (1966) to the very different Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) and Once Upon a Time in America (1984) – without Morricone’s music.

So close was the creative partnership of composer and director that Leone once described it as “a marriage like Catholics used to be married before the divorce laws”. Morricone returned the complement by saying, “Leone wanted more from music than other directors – he always gave it more space”. The resulting films were mythical melodramas, with Morricone supplying the melo.

From the early whipcracks, bells, whistles, Italian folk instruments, incomprehensible lyrics and Fender Stratocaster riffs – which may have been distant spin-offs from Morricone’s researches into John Cage and the idea that all sounds can belong to the realm of music – to the romantic score from America with its wistful Eastern European pan-pipes and dense orchestral textures, the work of these two artists ran on parallel lines.

The opening bars of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly , with their “Ay-ee-ay-ee-ay” coyote howl, are among the most instantly recognisable in the history of the movies. But Morricone has often been at pains to point out that even during his most prolific period in the 1960s and 1970s – when as Bernardo Bertolucci once joked “you barely saw a major Italian movie without music by Ennio” – he only scored thirty-five Westerns out of four hundred and fifty films, just over eight percent of his astonishing output. Only thirty-five! That’s more than Elmer Bernstein, Dimitri Tiomkin and Jerome Moross combined.

No-one is quite sure exactly how many films Morricone has scored in total, since his first credit in 1961; certainly over 400, maybe as many as 450. Since he always writes down every note himself (unlike some film composers I could mention) and sees composition and orchestration as part of a single process, the achievement really is astonishing – more mainstream film scores than any other composer, ever.

Apart from the Westerns, there have been revolutionary anthems for Queimada (1969) and Novecento (1976), horrors for Argento and Carpenter, gangster films from The Sicilian Clan (1969) to The Untouchables (1987), plus countless love themes which tend to go for baroque, atonal action sequences, nostalgic elegies, lyrical hymns, ominous strings, strident adventures, and an Italian hit parade of main title songs. He seems equally at home with genre films (allgenres) as with smaller-scale, more personal projects. In The Mission (1986), he created a beautiful score which is about the power of music itself – as a means of salvation on the one hand, and of colonial oppression on the other: the film ends with a broken violin floating down river.

Throughout his near 50 year career as a film composer, across the board, his signature ideas have included simple ideas (easy to hum) in complex arrangements, unusual instrumentation, concrete sounds, the use of the human voice as part of the orchestra, long silences, musical gags and single notes sustained for ever.

Giuseppe Tornatore, of Cinema Paradiso fame, has said of him “he is not just a great film composer he is a great composer”.

Program notes

A spotlight on cellos! At the first international cello competition in Moscow, twelve cellists from the Berliner Philharmoniker perform for the first time on the stage of the prestigious Great Hall of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow.

"Die 12" are brilliant cellists of one of the most prestigious orchestras around the world, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra who originally gathered to create a solo group of musicians. Their purpose was to explore jewels of a wide repertoire, from classical to popular works, in addition to works especially dedicated to them. This unique ensemble internationally acclaimed has already stirred great enthusiasm of audiences, with its virtuosity and lively art to perform varied repertoires.

All the beauty and depth of the cello appears during this tasty and fascinating concert. The bows of the cellists give a new light to the "classics". Indeed they perform it sometimes with lyricism, sometimes with humour, always with an incredible sense of musical unity. The concert is divided into two parts: the first one on the theme of "Angel Dances" and the second on the theme of "Dance around the World". They also perform tango themes with arrangements of works by Ástor Piazzolla, jazz themes with the unique style of works composed by Gershwin. They also perform works by Debussy, Verdi and Fauré with his famous Pavane . Last but not least, the end of this concert is a surprise...

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Till Lindemann wears thick glasses while looking down in a photo.

Till Lindemann is leaving Rammstein behind in 2024.

Starting in September, the bombastic frontman will embark on his first solo U.S. tour with special guests Twin Temple and Aesthetic Perfection in support of his 2023 solo album “Zunge.”

Midway through the fall run, the 61-year-old drops into New York’s The Rooftop at Pier 17 on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

While this will be Lindemann’s first solo stateside jaunt, it won’t be the first time he’s performed without Rammstein.

Most recently, he wrapped an international 2023-24 solo tour in Mexico, according to Set List FM . On that run, he regularly performed 19 songs — including two encores — per show.

While we can’t guarantee what he’ll bring to the stage on his forthcoming North American tour, we do know the best way to find out is live.

Can’t wait to see the lively Lindemann?

You’re in luck. Tickets can be snagged for all of his 2024 U.S. and Canada concerts and festival appearances as soon as today.

Although inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster until Friday, April 26, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can purchase on sites like Vivid Seats before tickets are officially on sale.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

Till Lindemann tour schedule 2024

A complete calendar including all tour dates, venues, and links to buy tickets can be found below.

Till Lindemann festival appearances

This September and October, Lindemann will lend his talents to a pair of heavy multi-day musical extravaganzas.

For a closer look, here are the dates, venues and fellow headliners at both festivals.

Till Lindemann set list

As noted above, Lindemann wrapped his 2023-24 in Mexico on Jan. 4.

Here’s what he performed that night, courtesy of Set List FM .

01.) “Zunge” 02.) “Schweiss” 03.) “Fat” 04.) “Altes Fleisch” 05.) “Allesfresser” 06.) “Golden Shower” 07.) “Tanzlehrerin” 08.) “Ich weiß es nicht” 09.) “Sport frei” 10.) “Blut” 11.) “Praise Abort” 12.) “Platz Eins” 13.) “Fish On” 14.) “Gummi” 15.) “Steh auf” Encore

16.) “Knebel” 17.) “Ich hasse Kinder” 18.) “Skills in Pills” Encore II

19.) “Entre dos tierras” (Héroes del Silencio cover)

Till Lindemann new music

On Nov. 3, 2023, Lindemann dropped his solo album “Zunge.”

Comprised of 11 tracks, the heavy rocker stretches his musical muscles and alternates between intimate quiet and chaotic, epic loud — the sound Rammstein is known for — with ease.

Highlights include the quirky “Sports Frei,” thumping “Altes Fleisch” and the warbly anthem “Du hast kein Herz.”

Personally, we were most taken with the Ennio Morricone-esque “Tanzlehrerin” with its guitar licks, yearning vocals and gifted yet pained backing singer giving her all behind Lindemann.

Don’t sleep on the shockingly fun album closer “Selbst verliebt,” either. It’s an unexpected pop delicacy.

Want to hear for yourself?

You can listen to “Zunge” in its entirety here .

On Christmas 2023, Lindemann followed up the album release with the whirly, tongue-trilling single “Entre dos tierras” en español.

It has our stamp of approval as well; the song is quite a bit of fun.

Till Lindemann special guests

At all shows, Lindemann will be joined by a pair of opening acts.

To make sure you’re acquainted with their sounds, you can find each band’s most-streamed song on Spotify below.

Twin Temple: “Lucifer, My Love”

Aesthetic Perfection: “Spit It Out”

Till Lindemann controversy

Lindemann was accused of sexual assault by a female fan last June over social media. She alleged he drugged her at a pre-show Rammstein VIP party in Lithuania and later approached her fox sex during intermission.

This led to a backlash against Rammstein’s “VIP Experience;” fans believed Lindemann was using the ticket tier to bed fans.

After looking into the case, German prosecutors dropped the case due to a lack of evidence and testimony.

“The rapid termination of investigative proceedings by the Berlin state prosecutor’s office shows that there is insufficient evidence that our client allegedly committed sexual offen(s)es,” Lindemann’s lawyers said.

Rammstein drummer claimed Lindemann “has distanced himself from us in recent years and created his own bubble” and “things seem to have happened that, although legally ok, I personally don’t think are ok.”

Huge metal acts on tour in 2024

If Lindemann’s brief jaunt isn’t coming to a venue near you, we have just the solution.

Here are five metal acts that might be headed to your city these next few months.

•  Limp Bizkit
