12 of England's best football experiences and stadium tours

The England Lionesses might not be bringing home the trophy from the 2023 Women's World Cup, but with the men's Euro 2024 tournament less than a year away, you can celebrate the 'pride' (pun intended!) of England by digging deeper into the roots of the beautiful game. From having a pint in the birthplace of modern football to stadium tours and unique experiences, here's our roundup of great ways to celebrate English football.

The Freemasons Arms - the pub where the national sport began

Covent Garden, London

Freemasons Arms pub fascia with gold lettering on sleek black background

Football may be a global phenomenon nowadays, but the sport's roots can be traced back to this Victorian tavern just off of Covent Garden. The Freemasons Arms has been serving pints and great food since the 1800s and is noted as the place where the English Football Association sat down and laid out the rules of the sport that would grow to become a worldwide favourite. Pay tribute to this in the Freemasons Arms' downstairs bar, packed with football memorabilia and live match screenings.

Explore England's footballing history

National Football Museum, Manchester

Two men looking at an exhibit in the National Football Museum, Manchester.

Found in the heart of Manchester, the National Football Museum celebrates the history of the national sport, while also adding exhibitions and displays based on present-day successes and glories. With collections focused on everything from the history of the Football League to England's 1966 World Cup success, all packed with worn match kits, trophies and interactive displays donated to the museum over time, there's plenty to see and do on a day trip to the museum.

Take on the Dare Skywalk at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London

608117-56.jpg

Group of friends at Dare Skywalk experience

When Tottenham opened the doors to their brand new White Hart Lane located stadium, it came with a major surprise for both Spurs and adventure fans. Built into the stadium is The Dare Skywalk, a one-of-a-kind attraction that sees you climb up onto the stadium's roof above the pitch, around the golden cockerel statue at the apex (offering unbelievable views across the capital), and back down to solid ground for refreshments in a whirlwind 90 minutes.

If you're feeling extra brave, you can now finish your skywalk in a less traditional fashion. The Edge is a controlled jump from the stadium's roof – the first experience of this kind in the UK – and sees the bravest skywalkers leap from the catwalk onto the stand below (with a harness, of course).

Enjoy a slice of history at Villa Park

Arsenal vs Bayern Munich LIVE! Champions League result, match stream and latest updates as Saka denied penalty

Arsenal vs Bayern Munich LIVE!

Arsenal are still alive in their Champions League quarter-final tie against Bayern Munich after a pulsating first-leg clash at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners were controversially denied a last-gasp penalty for Manuel Neuer’s challenge on Bukayo Saka as honours ended even on a dramatic night in north London.

Saka had given Arsenal an early lead with a curled strike past the returning Neuer after only 12 minutes, but that was quickly cancelled out after former Gunner Serge Gnabry beat David Raya from close range. Worse was to come for the hosts when William Saliba tripped Leroy Sane to give Bayern a penalty that was coolly dispatched by England captain and former Tottenham stalwart Harry Kane.

Mikel Arteta’s second-half substitutions eventually paid off when Gabriel Jesus’ dazzling feet set up a potentially pivotal equaliser from super-sub Leandro Trossard, with the tie finely poised ahead of next week’s decider at the Allianz Arena. Follow Arsenal vs Bayern Munich reaction live below, featuring expert analysis from Simon Collings and Dan Kilpatrick at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal vs Bayern Munich updates

Live updates

Arsenal 1-2 Bayern Munich

36 mins: White’s header is saved by Neuer as Arsenal push for a leveller before the break.

You can’t take your eyes off this for a second!

Arsenal look dangerous in attack but are being cut apart by Bayern’s pace on the break.

They are committing too many men forward and paying the price.

35 mins: End-to-end stuff now as Goretzka makes a vital block after some nifty football from Arsenal.

Another chance just goes begging before the Gunners are caught out badly on the counter again, with White potentially saving another goal with a crucial last-ditch challenge on the lightning-quick Sane inside the box.

Not sure how Goretzka has just avoided a booking for wiping out Saka, but he has.

Standard Sport’s Dan Kilpatrick at the Emirates Stadium

I can't remember a Kane penalty like that before.

Usually he rifles them but this one's rolled into the bottom corner after a little hop in the run-up, with Raya committed the other way.

Stunning from Sane in the build-up, Gabriel and Saliba having rare off-nights.

Standard Sport’s Simon Collings at the Emirates Stadium

Can't remember the last time that Arsenal were this poor defensively. The Emirates is silenced and stunned.

Arsenal 1-1 Bayern Munich

30 mins: Penalty to Bayern Munich after Saliba brings down Sane!

A fantastic kick to set up the counter by Neuer and it’s a brilliant run from the electric Sane, who dazzles his way into the box before being tripped by Saliba.

Definite penalty. Kane to step up against last-16 penalty hero Raya...

28 mins: Erm, there are currently fireworks going off above the Emirates and I’m not quite sure why.

Has somebody accidentally gone a bit early on some celebratory bangers?

26 mins: Absolute chaos at the front post from an Arsenal corner.

Saliba, White and Kiwior all try to prod in from close range in a mad scramble, but Bayern eventually clear.

No idea what Raya was doing rushing out of the box like that, which crucially then closed him off as a potential option for Gabriel.

Gabriel instead played a bad pass in towards Kiwior that was seized upon by Kane.

Arteta will be fuming.

GOAL! Arsenal 1-1 Bayern Munich | Serge Gnabry 18'

18 mins: Bayern are level out of nowhere!

It’s also very unconvincing at the back from Arsenal with Raya initially racing out of his box for no reason.

Bayern seize on possession as Kane pressures Gabriel and there are two great passes from Sane and Goretzka, with Gnabry sliding in to put through the legs of Raya and score against his former club.

Silence greets the goal with no away fans inside the ground.

A breathless start!

Arsenal 1-0 Bayern Munich

15 mins: It should really be 2-0, but Neuer makes a crucial save to deny White!

Bayern suddenly look all over the place at the back.

Arsenal rampant.

Bayern a shambles at the back right now. Tuchel sat shaking his head on the bench. Arsenal should go for the throat here.
