7.30 – 12.00 We will meet you in your lobby ahead of your transfer to Halong Bay.

At the harbour, you can take your welcome drink on board and explore the Glory Legend Cruise as it waits to set sail.

12.00 – 13.00 Lunch in the dining room will be accompanied by the majestic sight of hundreds of forested mountains stretching throughout the famous seascape.

Tung Sau is our first stop. This is a pearl farm where will learn more about how the locals farm this precious gemstone.

13.00 – 19.30 On the dragon fang-shaped island of Titop, we have much time to relax on the beach or swim in the sea. The more adventurous of our passengers can climb to the top of the island for excellent views of the bay around them.

A massage is available from this time onwards. Please locate our cruise manager and book with them for a spa session.

Once back aboard the Glory Legend Cruise, we enjoy the sunset with a happy hour and the arrival of our chef, who will provide us with an engaging cooking class. 

19.30 – 23.00 A Vietnamese and international menu will be utilised tonight for the wonderful dinner we will serve in the dining room.

You are bound to find something to entertain you this evening. We have squid fishing, a well-stocked bar and board games on board, while passengers after a quieter time can recline on the sundeck or in their cabin.

  Day 2:  Ha Long Bay - Hanoi (B/L)

06.00 – 08.00 Tai chi in the morning light of Halong Bay is a magical spectacle, don’t miss our own session atop the sundeck!

This will be followed with a light breakfast as the motor starts up for the new day ahead.

08.00 – 11.30

The Surprising Cave will be our last stop. This is Halong Bay’s more impressive cave, with statuesque rock formations shaped like animals, which gives them many different legends amongst the local people. 

Return to the Glory Legend Cruise for the last time as we enjoy a delicious brunch.

We will head back to Hanoi after reaching the harbour and disembarking from the Glory Legend Cruise.

7.30 – 12.00 Await in your hotel lobby in Hanoi’s Old Quarter for the arrival of your driver and tour guide. Take the drive with them to Halong Bay, 3.5 hours east of the capital.

At Tuan Chau harbour, we relax at the lounge as the Glory Legend readies itself for boarding. Our initial cruising through the magical limestone landscape will be accompanied by a welcome drink.

12.00 – 13.00 Take lunch as we continue sailing deeper, finding some of Halong Bay’s iconic limestone structures dotted around.

We stop at the interesting Tung Sau pearl farm to learn of the processes of pearl production amidst this floating barge in the heart of the bay.

13.00 – 19.30 Near to this is Titop Island, a must-visit in Halong Bay because of the many activities available here, including relaxing, swimming and a small trek.

A cooking class will greet us as we return to the Glory Legend Cruise, followed by happy hour and a wonderful sunset. 

19.30 – 23.00 As part of tonight’s barbecue dinner, you will have both Western and Asian options.

As the night rolls in, you can take your pick of evening entertainment, such as squid fishing or social drinks at the bar.

  Day 2:  Ha Long Bay (B/L/D)

06.00 – 08.30 Enjoy the tai chi session held on the sundeck this morning. There will be a breakfast served downstairs afterwards.

08.30 – 19.30 We board the day boat and head over to Cua Van fishing village, where we can watch the community going about their daily business while living on tethered barges.

We head to Me Cung Cave and navigate through its maze-like structure on foot. This is one of the earliest examples of human inhabitation in the bay so our guide will point out the interesting spots for you.

Back on the day boat, we have a fantastic lunch served for us.

After lunch, we return to the Glory Legend Cruise for the rest of the day at your own pace. Spend it atop the sundeck, in your well-equipped cabin, or at the spa.

Happy hour and a cooking demonstration will take place on the sundeck in the late afternoon. 

19.30 – 23.00 The sparkling restaurant of the Glory Legend Cruise is where we will have a delicious dinner this evening. 

Enjoy board games with the crew or simply relax with a book in your cabin before another peaceful sleep in the bay.

  Day 3:  Ha Long Bay - Hanoi (B/L)

06.00 – 08.00 Tai chi will be held upstairs again for the benefit of anyone up early enough.

We have a full breakfast in the dining room before the Glory Legend Cruise begins its sailing for the day.

 Sung Sot Cave is our destination this morning, with a wealth of limestone karst formations that makes it one of the most astounding caves in the area.

We have a filling brunch and begin our cruise back to the mainland.

At Tuan Chau harbour, we board the bus that will take us back to Hanoi, arriving at your hotel in the late afternoon.

Cancellation by Halong Bay Management Board due to bad weather

If the cancellation is made by the Halong Bay Management Board, following policies will be applied depending the time of cancellation. 

• When a cancellation is made before departure date- check-in date (if no services have been used): 100% refund. 

• When a cancellation is made during the trip (some services have been used such as transfer, food, some amenities, etc.): used services will be charged, the rest will be refunded.

• When a cancellation is made before or during the departure date and the trip must be shortened from 2 nights to 1 night, 2 days 1 night trip, plus other used services will be charged, the rest will be refunded.

• The final cost will be confirmed by your consultant via email. In all cases, please contact us directly for any urgent help. We are here to support you!

The day starts early onboard with Tai Chi session on the sundeck. Tai chi also called Tai chi chuan, combines deep breathing and relaxation with slow and gentle movements.

Coffee, tea and pastries for breakfast are served in the dining room with morning view of bay’s landscape.

8.00am – 11.30am

Transfer by tender to Sung Sot Cave . Walk up about 100 steps to the cave entrance. It takes approximately 45 minutes for cave visiting. Visit Sung Sot Cave , one of the most biggest cave in Halong bay with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. Return to the boat by tender . Proper shoes are highly recommended

Back to Glory Legend Cruises . Check out and settle your bill at reception.

Have a lunch while cruising back to the Tuan Chau Wharf. Relaxing on the sundeck or in the dining room enjoying the bay scenery while approaching the wharf.

Stop over the middle to visit a traditional workshop and refreshment about 30 minutes.

07.30 – 12.00 Your driver will meet you at your hotel and transfer you to Halong Bay along the ancient Red River Delta.

Sip on a welcome drink as you step aboard the Glory Legend for the first time.

12.00 – 13.00 We will begin our cruise through the maze of jutting limestone karsts as a lunch is served in the elegant dining room.

We head over to Tung Sau first, a pearl farm that cultivates this most precious gem in the waters of Halong Bay.

13.00 – 19.30 We sail around the corner and stop at Titop Island , with its dragon fang-like appearance. Here we can relax on the beach or take a dip in the water surrounding it. You also have the option to climb to the top of the ‘fang’ for a brilliant view over the undulating Halong Bay scenery.

If you would like a massage, they are available from this point onwards. You must book directly with the cruise manager.

The sundeck of the Glory Legend will be the location for a wonderful cooking demonstration by our talented chef. Happy Hour follows this, giving you a chance to indulge in pre-dinner cocktails in the dying light of a Halong Bay sunset. 

19.30 – 23.00 We have a set-menu dinner spanning Vietnamese and international options tonight.

Maybe try a bit of squid fishing with the crew for evening entertainment tonight. If this does not appeal then you can play board games, watch movies or just relax in your cabin before bed.

06.00 – 08.00 Head to the top deck for a chance to try Tai Chi in the emerging light around Halong Bay.

There will be a light breakfast directly afterwards served in our dining room.

08.00 – 11.30 Stroll around the interior of the Surprising Cave, one of Halong Bay’s many fabulous caves with whimsically-shaped stalactites and stalagmites featuring in local folklore. 

A filling brunch back on the Glory Legend is served as we approach the marina.

Step off the Glory Legend and step onto your shuttle bus, which will transfer us back to Hanoi with short rest stops along the way. Your Halong Bay Overnight Cruise with Glory Legend ends.

Glory Legend Cruise 3 days 2 nights

07.30 – 12.00 Wait for the shuttle bus in your hotel lobby. We will drive across the fascinating landscape of the Red River Delta on the way to Halong Bay.

We will wait at our lounge at Tuan Chau Marina until the Glory Legend is ready to board. Enjoy your welcome drink as we begin our cruise down the limestone-lined waterways.

12.00 – 13.00 Lunch will be served in the wonderful dining room on our cruise into the heart of Halong Bay.

Our first stop is Tung Sau, Halong Bay’s only pearl farm with a long history of pearl harvesting and cultivation. We can learn about this and its current practices on a brief tour.

13.00 – 19.30 Next, we head to Titop Island. This is Halong Bay’s most famous island and is popular for relaxing, swimming and for its stone staircase that leads to the peak of the island, revealing a gorgeous view over Halong Bay for those who make the effort.

Massages are available from our spa service. All bookings need to be made with the cruise manager.

Back on board the Glory Legend, we have a cooking class where our chef will demonstrate how to properly prepare spring rolls. Happy Hour at the bar accompanies a wonderful sunset behind the tree-topped mountains of Halong Bay. 

19.30 – 23.00 We will have Vietnamese and international options available for our barbecue dinner tonight.

We have board games and movies available for after-dinner entertainment in Halong Bay tonight. You can also join the crew from the back of the boat if you want to give squid fishing a go.

06.00 – 08.30 Tai Chi on the sundeck in the morning light of the bay will precede breakfast in the dining room.

08.30 – 19.30 Climbing onto our comfortable day boat, we will visit Cua Van Fishing Village and skim its waterways in a sampan boat rowed by one of the locals; they will show us the interesting facets to this floating community of 700 people.

The maze-like Me Cung Cave is our next stop. Our guide will point out fascinating rock formations as well as evidence of human habitation around the interior.

Head back to the day boat for a refreshing lunch.

We will have time in the afternoon to relax back onboard the Glory Legend. Maybe try out the sundeck, or book with the cruise manager for a spa session.

Another Happy Hour and another cooking demonstration will start in the late afternoon. 

19.30 – 23.00 Sit down in our elegant restaurant for your final dinner aboard the Glory Legend. 

Tonight, perhaps you would prefer some social drinks at our well-stocked bar. If not, feel free to return to your cabin at any time to relax in the view of the shimmering bay.

06.00 – 08.00 There will be another Tai Chi session held on the top deck for anyone wanting to start their day with a boost of energy.

Breakfast will be served in the dining room as the Glory Legend begins its cruising for the final day.

08.00 – 11.30 Halong Bay’s biggest grotto awaits in the form of Sung Sot Cave or the ‘Surprising Cave'. We will take a tour of its fascinating rock features before heading back to the ship. 

Re-boarding the Glory Legend for the final time, we have a filling brunch and check out of the cabins on the cruise over to mainland Vietnam.

Wave goodbye to the crew as you disembark the Glory Legend and head back to Hanoi via our shuttle bus. Your Halong Bay 3 day 2 night with Glory Legend ends at your hotel around 16.00.

"2 Days of pure Glory!"

Glory Legend’s cruise boat is in really great condition. Everything was so clean and neat, and the beds were so very, very comfortable. Loved everything about the food and had a couple of really good meals, the best being the dinner. Well planned itinerary run by competent and friendly staff. They take you to quite a few places but these are all optional, and there is plenty of time to chill on the boat either way.I’m not sure if we were initially running late or anything, but the driver seemed VERY determined in setting a new land speed record between Hanoi and Halong Bay. I appreciate the differences in driving culture between Vietnam and England, but the bus was full of tourists so I feel like he could have slowed it down a little. A few people ended up complaining to the company and one couple even booked a taxi back to Hanoi.I can’t do Halong Bay justice with words or photos, you simply have to go there yourself. I recommend the cruise to everyone and encourage people to take the 3 day cruise if possible, as 2 is good but an extra 24 hours in the bay would have been magical.

"A Glorious and Legendary trip aboard the Glory Legend in Halong Bay!"

What an unbelievable cruise we’ve just come back from in Halong Bay. Here’s why:- The crew. A great collection of wonderful people, always there to help if you need them! They seem to genuinely care about the customers and that is far from the usual experience. They were so good about my husband’s food allergies, talking to the chef about possible alternatives and getting back to us later with a completely personalised menu. I tried some (quite a lot) of it and it was just as delicious as mine.- The cabins. Well decorated, outwardly beautiful and with sliding doors that opened up directly onto the stunning views of the bay. Great showers and other amenities of the same quality you could expect of any luxury hotel on land, but with a much, much better series of views out the windows.- The food. Just endless. Most meals are 5 courses and have a mixed menu of Vietnamese and Western food, which was good for the touch of homesickness we were feeling! Our final dinner was served upstairs on the top deck, which we weren’t expecting but it came as a very pleasant surprise.- The activities. There’s a good balance of busyness with activities and relaxing down time on the boat. We headed to Titiov island where you can see a great view of the islands and mountains, but only if you put in the effort to hike up the stairs. There were caves, beaches, pearl farms etc along the way.&nbsp;For those doing the 3 night tour, they take you from the main boat onto the day boat after lunch. There’s a dining room, a few bathrooms and a large lounging area. I had not envisioned something like that, not by a long way! You do some activities in the morning and then have lunch on the boat. There’s a lot of time for relaxing, so we made full use of it!It’s a long bus ride to the marina, so be prepared for that. There’s a stop halfway through where you can buy drinks and food and lots of Vietnamese products that I couldn’t quite figure out!I have already recommended this trip to a few of my friends and will continue to do so! Special thanks go to Tam and Mr. Dong, both of whom were exceptional and made our trip so perfect. Keep up the good work!

"Best Part of our Holiday"

One of the essentials if you’re in the north of Vietnam, or just in Vietnam in general. We did the 3 day tour and we encourage everyone else to take this option as well.&nbsp;The time to Halong Bay is a little long from Hanoi, but that’s just the way it is. We took the private car option the day before and stayed in a hotel near the harbour to save time the next day – it worked perfectly!Very safe boat and very clean to boot. Incredible staff who were always willing to chat with us and share some information about Halong Bay, Vietnam and their home villages. Our dinners were a pretty ridiculous 8 courses, which I shouldn’t need to tell you equates to A LOT of food! There was buffet options for the other meals so it’s safe to say that you will never go hungry on this cruise. The drinks are a little expensive, but not the end of the world. It was about 60,000vnd for a can of beer, so you might want to consider bringing your own and storing them in the mini-fridge in your room.They plonk the 3 day passengers on a ‘day boat’ while they ferry the overnight bunch to the harbour and replace them with a new bunch. We had a great time on the day boat and spent a lot of time relaxing over the course of the second day. There are some optional activities, but these were very relaxed.The one issue I had was a lack of communication on the part of the booking office when we were trying to arrange transport. We got the shuttle bus back but had to wait for two hours at the harbour beforehand because the shuttle was full. Really not much of a problem but a little inconvenient all the same.Still, we wouldn’t hesitate to go back – it was simply unbelievable.

"A Very Memorable Experience"

If you’re on the fence about whether to go with the Glory Legend or not, I implore you to read this and then book with them! Everything was magical from the moment we set off. It was worth every last cent of what we paid for it and actually, quite a bit more. I have to mention the staff first and foremost; they we were a great laugh, always cracking jokes and showing the best of Vietnamese hospitality. Wonderful people to spend a cruise with!Our room was almost perfect, just a tad too small, but it never became a problem. There was a terrace where we could sit in the shade and watch the mountains while we sailed past them. It was like something in a movie.There is a HUGE amount of food served at meal times. My husband has a horrible allergy to shellfish and I couldn’t eat a lot of the food seeing as I was pregnant. We nervously asked them if they could change a few things and they went above and beyond in providing us with a sort of tailor-made menu, where we figured out what we could and couldn’t eat, then delivering it with a smile. Unbelievable service.Everything we did off the boat was also amazing. There was kayaking in the sea and hiking through the cave. There’s a cave with a great view over the bay, which is perfect for photos. We were so lucky to catch sight of a small group of monkeys – we made sure to get a snap!&nbsp;I’m highly recommending this to everyone and I am also eager to go back and do it all again. Well done Glory Legend!

"Fantastic Experience"

Me and my friend opted for the 2 day, 1 night tour with Glory Legend Cruise and had fantastic time overall. The crew were perfect from pick-up to drop-off – always kind, considerate, attentive, and generally very nice people who had a definite professionalism about them in their work.&nbsp;The space on the boat is pretty conclusive. The size of the cabin was pretty good and there was a load of space throughout the rest of the boat. Lots of outdoor places where you can take photos of the bay, which looks absolutely stunning and worth everything we paid to come here. The food was also great; we had some of our favourite ever Vietnamese food aboard the Glory Legend, in the lunch and dinner multi-course meals and buffet breakfast and brunch.There were plenty of activities to go and see the bay. We loved the kayaking and the hiking up the island with a viewpoint at the top (bring a towel and some water for trek; it gets very hot!) There was also plenty of stuff to engage with on the boat.My only piece of advice would be to go for the Glory Legend. We were not let down in a single department and we thought the price that we paid was actually less than it was worth. Brilliant all-round!

Sailing in Halong Bay with Glory Legend Cruise

This is the continuation of the previous post on What to see in Hanoi Old Quarter and it covers the Halong Bay cruise that we took – Glory Legend Cruise.

Glory Legend Cruise is one of the best halong bay cruises in the 4-star range, according to TripAdvisor. This cruise offers 2 different packages – either 2 days and 1 night, or 3 days and 2 nights. Both packages  have an identical  itinerary for the first day.

Read on to find out  what our experience with Glory Legend Cruise was like. I’m pretty sure most of the Halong Bay cruises have similar itineraries anyways so if you want to get the gist of what activities there are, you might find this useful too.

Getting to Halong Bay from Hanoi Old Quarter

Early morning at 7am, we had our breakfast at our hostel (Luxury Backpackers) in Hanoi while waiting for the Blue Dragon (Blue Dragon manages Glory Legend Cruise and other cruises) representative to show up as agreed the day before. We were supposed to settle the balance payment for the Halong Bay tour. She did come around 7.30am and left after the payment was settled.   We then proceeded to wait for the tour bus. She told us it would come between 7.30-8am.

The cruise agencies will usually include transportation from Hanoi old quarter to Halong Bay and vice-versa. The only restriction is the time of pick-up (between at 7-8am) and that your pick-up point must be in Hanoi Old Quarter. It is possible to make your arrangements online with the booking agent before you get to Hanoi.

The bus arrived at 8.30am though. We were the last passengers for them to pick up. The guide on the bus told us that there were actually passengers from two groups in the bus – Rosa Cruise and Glory Legend Cruise.   

The guide was very helpful and easy to understand. He shared a brief schedule of the Rosa tour with us (Glory Legend would be briefed on the cruise upon rejoining the main group) and also some obligatory safety measures. There was a small quiz on Halong Bay with some jokes thrown in.   

He told us that Halong Bay was “recently” listed as one of the seven new natural wonders in the world .

Rest stop enroute to Halong Bay

I fell asleep most of the way. Woke up some time before we reached the halfway point. Here, we would stop for 30 minutes at a workshop for embroidery.

They sell embroidery paintings, statues and other souvenirs here. There is also a small café and good bathroom facilities.  

Didn’t really see anything that we couldn’t get over in Malaysia. In fact, they had some goods from Thailand and other countries too. Just picked up a small knitted tortoise for my mum that was actually a roll-up measure tape in disguise. Saw this same item for sale at Noi Bai airport on our last day too.   

The guide collected everyone when the time was up and we herded back to our respective buses. You can see all the different tour buses gathered here.  

We moved along for close to another 2 hours until we reached the port island. The whole bus journey from Hanoi Old Quarter to Halong Bay took us about 3 hours and half. Do bring some entertainment along with you. Maybe some cards, snacks and don’t forget your motion sickness pills in case you need them.

Tuan Chau Marina

The entire island was developed for the sole purpose of tourism. It hit us here just how popular Halong Bay was universally. Our guide informed us that the owner is currently the richest man in Vietnam. There were hotels and some cafes. And resting areas right before the harbor. Most of the people here were tourists of all nationalities. At this time (Christmas 2017), most were from America or Europe.  

At the resting point, another guide told us to wait for our cruise to be called for boarding in roughly 30-40 minutes. We took this time to freshen up at the bathrooms and admire all the boats or should I say ships? You can purchase a coffee or snack at the small counter in this building.   

We singled out our destined boat, Glory Legend. It was a mid-size boat that was frankly not very impressive next to its much larger neighbors. Ours is the one in the middle if you refer to the pictures below. The boats/ships were designed with a blend of  modern and Vietnamese traditional features. The most splendid ship was the Alisa cruise which was probably more than RM1k a night per person – wayyyyyy out of our budget.

On board Glory Legend Cruise (Check in)

Pelican cruise passengers boarded first. We were next after two Pelican groups. By that time, it was our turn, it was 1pm. The crew directed us to the dining room where we were served welcome drinks. They briefed us on the itinerary and told us lunch would be served in another 15 minutes or so.  This is a good time to confirm with the crew if you have any dietary restrictions.

Our room was on the upper floor (sea view) and we found it to be small but luxurious nonetheless. The interior of the room was a dark wood finishing as we had seen on the booking page for this tour package. Two bottles of water were provided. There was a basket of fruit and a bottle of wine but I’m pretty sure those were not complimentary. The only thing tacky in the room were two Vietnamese women figurines. There was ample space to hang all our winter paraphernalia. We left our things and returned to the dining room.  

Lunch by Glory Legend Cruise 

The lunch was served promptly as the boat left the harbor. A waiter went around with a drinks menu to collect separate orders. I think this is what fine dining is like. A round of 4 mini meals that were all prepared by a chef right on the spot. All of the dishes were delicious and I’m not saying that just cause we were hungry.

The lunch is included with the package but the beverages are not. We ordered this Vietnamese traditional drip coffee. The aroma was very pleasant and rich. Drinking this hot beverage in chilly weather was deeply satisfying.

Got our first view of Halong Bay during lunch. The limestone hills were honestly not that different compared to the ones in Ipoh. This is probably what Ipoh would look like if it was submerged under water. Halong Bay has a greater number of hills though. Endless. Our guide told us they number near to two thousand, in total.  

It was a real treat to be enjoying good food and great scenery all at once. Am thankful to have had the chance to experience that in Halong Bay.  

Per schedule, we were due to reach Ti Top island for a hike in less than an hour or so. Rested in the room a bit before coming out again. A smaller boat was waiting outside to ferry us to Ti Top island.  

Ti Top Island

As we approached the island, we could see that a lot of the cruises have roughly the same itinerary. Quite a lot of people were already on the island, playing on the beach.   

Our guide had tickets ready for us. We just showed them to the ticket operator at the entrance and followed the crowd to the start of the stairs that would take us to the top of the island where we would be able to get a panorama view of Halong bay.  

There is a statue of a  man on the island. We wondered at this but our guide explained that the statue was a gift to represent the good relationship between Russian and Vietnam during the cold war.  

Hiking in Ti Top island

The hike was not too difficult. Older people could manage it with frequent breaks. We were supposed to go up and come down within 30 minutes and spend the remaining 30 minutes of the allocated hour either swimming or exploring the beach. Swimming did not cross our minds at all. The water was chilly from a Malaysian perspective although many foreigners were happily splashing in the cold waters below.  If you do want to swim, stay within the marked boundary. The guide warned of jellyfish.

There are two rest stops or viewpoints before the top and final viewpoint. Since we weren’t planning to swim, we hung around to wait for the thick crowd to disperse before we got to take some photos.  

The view is worth the hike. If you really cannot make it, the first viewpoint is pretty lovely already. You might still have to secure a spot for photos though.  

We had enough time to make it down dip our feet in the water before making it back to the boat with the rest of the group. The small book took us back the cruise ship.   

Pearl Farm in Halong Bay

The guide told us it would be another hour or so before we reached the pearl farm which is also the spot for kayaking. We took the time to explore some of the ship and enjoy the cool weather outside.

Note: Please the careful when exploring the boat. Especially if you cannot swim. Our junk didn’t have any fencing at the front deck as you can see from the picture below.

It wasn’t long before we were told to board the small boat again to reach the pearl farm.

This is where our group split. Those who were keen to kayak moved to the end of the farm while the rest stayed on to learn about how pearls were harvested from the farm.   

Kayaking in Halong Bay

Kayaking – the activity that we were looking forward to.

We went on to pick our kayak and oars. You have to don a life jacket for your own safety.

No instructions were given but after a few strokes in, we got the gist of it. To be fair, I was mostly just taking photos and fretting about dropping my camera. We had 30 minutes to paddle around aimlessly. Got to one shore where you could see through the dark aqua water.  

A couple of people from our group took single kayaks instead of double. They could go much faster.   

Don’t worry about hitting any boats cause there are none in this area. There are some buoys that serve to mark the oyster beds (I think) though so try to avoid these.  

It was getting dark fast. The sun sets at 5.30pm during December. We made our way back to the pearl farm, returned the life jackets, oars and kayak. The small boat brought us all back to the cruise ship again.  

Cooking lesson on Glory Legend Cruise

There was to be a cooking lesson of sorts up on the deck at 6.30pm so after our shower, we just loitered around the deck, enjoying the view of all the surrounding ships lit against the backdrop of hills.  

The lesson started around 6.30pm per schedule. The guide was present alongside the same chef who had prepared our lunch earlier in the day. The topic was spring rolls.

Apparently, south and north Vietnam prepare their spring rolls differently. The chef would show us how to prepare spring rolls in the northern style. Everyone got a chance to try their hand at rolling. The chef made it look effortless.  

We got to taste our creations after the chef fried them. Dinner was served shortly after back down in the dining room.

Dinner on Glory Legend Cruise

Since it was Christmas eve, the dinner was in a buffet style rather than set meals.   

There was so much food – cakes, salads, sushi, some seafood and other meats. Most of the food was well seasoned. I particularly enjoyed the salads. If you have certain dietary restrictions, you can tell the guide during the briefing or before the meals are prepared.   

Take note again, all drinks (including bottles of water in the room) will be charged to you and paid upon check out at the end of the cruise.  

There was a squid-fishing session later up on the deck  around 9-10pm. The guide did mention the squids were not in season. We preferred to enjoy some warm drinks at our room balcony instead.

If you wake up early enough, you can join the Tai chi session up on the deck at 6.30am but we just in until breakfast at 7.30am. We saw the sunrise from our room.

Breakfast on Glory Legend Cruise

Breakfast included western pastries and cereals and Vietnamese noodles. There was fruit as well.  

This was Christmas day and some of the passengers actually brought presents from home to give to their family members right there in the dining room. And to think I actually thought that there wouldn’t be many Westerners in Halong bay during the Christmas weekend because they would want to spend it at home with their families.  

On this last day, there was one more item on the itinerary to cross out – a trip to one of the largest limestone caves in Halong bay.   

Sung Sôt or Surprise Grotto, Bo Hòn Island

Once again, we boarded the small boat and made our way to another island, passing by a small fishing village.

There were quite a lot of boats at the dock of this island. There was a lot of construction going on at the front of the island too. Not sure what they were building. We followed our  guide and the rest of our group up the stairs.  

A crowd of people were already climbing ahead of us. This climb was a lot easier than the previous day’s climb at Ti Top island. In about 15 minutes, we had reached the opening of the cave.

The guide explained some formations to us as well as the history of the cave. It wasn’t hard to imagine many people living in the cave at some point in history. It was huge. A small house could easily fit inside the third and largest chamber. The cave made Ipoh’s Gua Tempurung seem rather small in comparison.

We went through three chambers in total, admiring the unique formations around us. It’s quite well lit but please watch your step all the same. It can be slippery. Do not even think about bringing your flipflops here.  

It took us an hour or so to complete the cave tour. The exit is not the same as the entrance.

There is a small souvenir stall and a viewpoint. The exit stairs leads out to a lovely little walkway with the water on your right and the hill on your left. You can see the hill up close this way. There is another  souvenir stall on the walkway selling jewelry and bags made of shells.

Took the small boat back to the ship. We had about an hour to pack before check out at 10am. I should probably mention here that if you take the 2D1N course like we did, they will only take you around the main islands. If you take the 3N2D package, you can see the other small islands too.  

So at 10am, a lot of passengers were still packing their stuff so we settled our bills first – not that we had much, just a coffee and some water.   

We just waited around the dining hall for the other passengers to come in. The crew served us one last time – noodles and curry. There were a lot of fruits again too. To be honest, we were still full from breakfast so we just ate a little.   

Nothing much else to say. We spent our last moments just admiring the view as the ship headed back to the same port it had departed the day before.  

It was 11.15pm or something when we docked.

Back at Tuan Chau Marina

A staff member came to tell us our bus would pick us up at around 12.45pm which was roughly the time we arrived the previous day. We could see the staff running around preparing for the next batch of tourists. There were already some people cleaning the rooms on all the ships which is quite a feat to achieve in less than two hours.   

We passed the time playing games and planning the remainder of the day. We estimated that we would reach Hanoi around 4.30pm. Our next hotel was near the airport so we would not be going there until later at night. Note that the tour bus will not take you to anywhere outside the old quarter of Hanoi.

The bus came on time and we boarded with a different group of people. Oh, I think I haven’t mentioned yet that the buses are clean and comfortable. They give bottles of water out (one per passenger, not sure if they allow you to take more than that. There is no bathroom however so make sure to empty your bowels before the journey.  By the way, the bus fare is included in the tour package.

At half time, the bus will stop at the same rest stop and you get 30 minutes to refresh before continuing the journey. We got a coconut and some biscuits to share while waiting for the bus.  

Back on the bus and continued the journey. The driver stopped at a repair shop, not sure why but it took 15 minutes or so before we were back on the road again. Made it to Hanoi without any other delays. Passed the lovely mural again. Will put a clip of it on our Facebook page or something.   

We had a great time in both Hanoi and Halong bay. I think we will visit Hanoi again but not anytime soon. There’s a lot of other places in North Vietnam that are of interest to us like Sapa and Hoi An. Plus, the cool weather makes exploring easier.

Hanoi and Halong bay are rather touristy but there’s a reason why so many people come here for a holiday. We don’t usually take tour packages but it makes for a nice change, once in a while.

Our overall experience with Blue Dragon tour and Glory Legend Cruise was good with the exception of a few delays. Love the food that we had in Hanoi – their food is very simple but fragrant. They like to make use of mint and basil leaves. And fish sauce, don’t forget the fish sauce.

Pelican cruise’s quality was beyond my expectations for such a reasonable price. We’ve grasped a lot of useful knowledge about the history of Halong Bay and the lifestyle of local fishermen. Kayaking and visiting caves were the two most recommended activities. The cabin crew was very helpful and supported us whenever we need.

The cruise was neat and clean. We were served a lot of good food, especially on the main courses. The captain and other staff always lightened up our mood. I would recommend a longer journey on this cruise instead of only 2 days. It was overall a good experience for me and my friends.

I felt grateful that the cruise took care of us very well. Activities onboard and offshore were mostly inclusive. I loved the cooking class and squid fishing at night the most. The cabins were small but neat and tidy. There was no WIFI onboard but that’s ok because we wanted to spend more time relaxing and gathering with other members. Thank the cruise for bringing us memorable moments on the bay!

My family had a 2-day trip on Pelican cruise and we enjoyed it a lot. The price was affordable and services as well as amenities were sufficient for our entertainment purposes. The staff were friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, the cabins smelled mold.

Pelican Cruise had a charming Vietnamese style, showing distinctive features of traditional boats. Cabins were not spacious but had adequate facilities and large windows and balconies viewing the bay. The host was friendly and humorous too, we had a lot of funny stories, and jokes to tell together. The food menu was plentiful and kayaking was definitely the highlight of this trip.

We did a 2-day trip on Halong Bay with Pelican Cruise and I would rate the cruise quality 3 stars. The cabins and facilities were quite old and not updated. The food was acceptable with not many options for European dishes, mainly Vietnamese dishes. Halong Bay was peaceful but not clean at all. The island was also crowded and dirty somewhere. I would love to be back to the bay but expect improvements of these issues.

The cruise programs were a bit rushed as we had a lot of things to do at a time and the time for enjoying the scenery was quite short. Despite this, other activities onboard and the services and amenities were appropriate, come just right with the affordable price. The cabins were not spacious but had everything I expect on an independent tour.

Absolutely great! Pelican Glory was a nice boat with an amazing trip to Halong Bay. The cruise has operated for years thus some parts were running down but still quite safe. What I appreciated the most was the friendliness and helpfulness of all staff and the captain onboard. Feeling happy when travelling with the cruise.

As usual, travelers stay overnight at hotels in Hanoi Old quarter's Area at night before, then we pick up  around 8am - 9am  in the next morning (Transfer from Hanoi to cruise harbor might take around 2-4 hours, depends on tours' class you book).

Travelers also flight from south of Vietnam/ Overseas to airport (Hai Phong airport, Noi Bai airport, Van Don airport) then do cruise on the same day, we can arrange for you transfer from airports directly to cruise harbors and join cruise but make sure u book early flight before 8am - 9am - 10am. Travelers must pay extra fee for car

Travelers also stay in near cruise harbor (for cruises are departed from Halong city), and you go to cruise harbor yourself, we show you location where to pick up easily.

The name halong came from the legend that a dragon landed on this bay. The view is wonderful. Each one of scattered islands gave me wonderful photos. My trip was just a day trip and I think it is too short. Spend at least one night. Yes photos of ha long bay are stunning, but you will be more stunned if you actually go there and see them with your own eyes..

Halong Bay was Visit on our Cambodia/Vietnam tour, we were very lucky to have our own guide and Junk Boat with crew.The Bay is such a beautiful place, we had a wonderful time spending all morning on the boat with lunch cooked for us.Halong Bay is certainly a must Visit if touring North Vietnam, fully recommended..

The views of the limestone islands in the Bay are stunning, especially if the weather cooperates. Strongly encourage one night on one of the many boats that ply the bay to allow for a less hurried itinerary and the very pleasant experiences of sunrise and sunset views. The boats are highly regulated and must stick to designated areas, but they are enough for lots of enjoyment. Various stops at caves, lookouts, kayaking, and small beach. Very good food on board our cruise with A-Class Stellar Cruises! Cabin was much cleaner and more "luxurious" than I expected..

Took the float plane both ways to save time. We only had one day and this was the best way to spend it. Thoroughly recommend the organisation we went with..

2 night 3 day cruise with v spirit, highly recommend, magic site even though we didn't go far into the bay. Lots of other boats at times added and detracted from the experience. Highly recommebd taking the extra night. Be careful who you go with as we heard some horro stories. Recommend v spirit great people, great service and food..

Just go and enjoy.. We stayed in a local boat Signagture over night so had a great opportunity to spend time just looking at the stunning scenery.. we also went canoeing to see some hidden away caves..

Halong Bay has been a dream of mine to visit for so long. It was breathtakingly beautiful and I could never get tired of the views! The colours and layers of all the cliffs and mountains are spectacular. Just make sure you find the right cruise - ours was overpriced and not worth it so do your research first! Also don't be surprised that there are a large number of boats around at night as they all park up together, but during the day we seemed to be on our own quite a lot. I think in the future this place won't be so nice as there is already so much rubbish floating around that it will continue to accumulate. Save this place by not littering and taking any rubbish back with you that you can..

This area has been a World Heritage Place among seven wonders of nature since 1994. What a beautiful spot on earth. A Halong Bay with its breathtaking beauty was undeniable and it is the most popular site to visit in Hanoi. There are many other things to do pay on the bay as well, like caving many many caves to choose from. Very helpful and informative and fun as well. If by overnight cruise, you can kayak by yourself to discover the bay, the cave more exciting..

the local village tour to Muong Hoa valley, Lao Chai and ta Vun village were worth for a visit. They also arrange a free taxi from our hotel in Sapa town to cable car station for us to visit Fansian peak..

Cruise itinerary

Arrive Tuan Chau Wharf at noon and transfer to the vessel.

After listening to safety instruction and room check-in, come back to the dining room for tasty Vietnamese lunch while the ship is sailing deeper into the bay. The first destination of the journey is Pearl Farm, where you can go kayaking and admire the peaceful bay.

We later move to Surprise Cave - the largest and most beautiful cave in Halong Bay. Return to the vessel, take a bath and refreshment. You can join the cooking demonstration on the sundeck, grab some drinks at Happy Hour (buy 2 get 1) and watch the stunning sunset.

The dinner is ready by 7:30 PM with Vietnamese and fusion Set dinner menu. For the rest of the night, you may either have a refined drink at the onboard bar or take part in team building activities with your family or friends. If weather allows, you can join in our exciting squid fishing time.

Get up early to catch the first light of the sun rising over the bay and take part in Tai Chi class on the sundeck. After charging yourself full of energy with the light breakfast, our cruise continues to Titop Island where you can swim at the sandy beach or climb to the top of the mountain and witness a 360-degree view of the bay.

Enjoy the farewell party while the ship is moving back to Halong. Arrive at the pier by noon and get on our bus for the way back to Hanoi.

The second day starts with a morning Tai Chi class on the sundeck. Then, take a cup of coffee or tea with your breakfast to have full energy for another inspiring day. Transfer to a day boat and delve into pristine Lan Ha Bay. Stop at Bright and Dark Cave areas for kayaking in an hour and a half. Back to the boat and enjoy lunch on the day boat.

The second stop is Ba Trai Dao beaches (Three Peaches beaches). Feel free to jump into the crystal clear water or relax on the beach for over 1 hour. Later, visit Me Cung Cave - one of the most historical caves in Halong Bay. Back to Mila Cruise at around 15:30. Enjoy sunset party with Happy Hour or join cooking demonstration.

Savor set menu dinner. Free time with squid fishing, watching TV, or booking a massage service. Overnight onboard.

• Coffee, tea and pastries for breakfast are served in the dining room with morning view of bay’s landscape.

8.00 – 11.30

• Transfer by tender to Sung Sot Cave. Walk up about 100 steps to the cave entrance. It takes approximately 45 minutes for cave visiting. Visit Sung Sot Cave, one of the most biggest cave in Halong bay with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. Return to the boat by tender. Proper shoes are highly recommended.
• Back to Glory Legend Cruises. Check out and settle your bill at reception.
• Have a lunch while cruising back to the Tuan Chau Wharf. Relaxing on the sundeck or in the dining room enjoying the bay scenery while approaching the wharf.
• Disembark to Tuan Chau Wharf. Say goodbye to the crew.

• Transfer to day boat for visiting Cua Van village, a small community with around 700 residents living in the root of Ngoc Mountain. Visit Cua Van village by a rustic – row boat, meet the local people who will help you row the boat for sightseeing. Enjoy quiet space and fresh air, you will feel truly relaxing.
• Visiting Me Cung Cave, which is also known as Maze Cave. Lying in the absolute protection of the World Natural Heritage – Halong Bay, Me Cung has the complex structure, including many compartments and a corridor of around 100m. According to archaeologists, Me Cung Cave belongs to preliminary Halong culture, about 7,000 – 10,000 years ago. The cave entrance looks like a house roof carving deep into the slopes of the island. Walking into the inside, visitors may get the feelings as if they are entering in a great palace of a Persian King. In combination with the light shining from the outer, sparkling stalactites in diverse shapes and sizes drooping like multi-colored curtains make Me Cung Cave shimmering and fanciful like in paradise. In addition, the blue waters of Me Cung Lake inside the cave create picturesque beauty of nature.

We went on a trip for one night, one of the best days I've had in Vietnam. When we arrived we felt immediately very welcome. The meals on the boat were excellent and there was always something you liked, for everyone. The trips (going to the caves, kayaking and more) we're organized well and everyone (young and old) can join it. I want to say thanks to crew. They were very helpful and hard working bartender!!!

Exciting activities good food

Halong Bay was beautiful. A visit to a floating village, sailing between the beautiful limestone formations, a visit to the caves, entertainment on board. All nice experiences that were framed with delicious meals. And then also spending two nights on board in a beautiful, spacious room!

Accommodations are very good. Bed, bathroom, etc. On top of the boat you have chairs to lie and sit on from where you came across the exceptional scenery. There are several boat options on the site however I highly recommend this. The crew attendance is very good. The food also very nice.

Friendly tour

The staff were lovely and the boat was very clean. The traditional Vietnamese food was watered down for western palates. For me the food was ok but I would have loved more traditional Vietnamese food. The set menu was delicious..

Great trip!

The cruise was very good. Well organized, lots of activities during the trip. The food was delicious and variety of drinks. Kien is a great guide! The place is amazing, well worth it!

We took a two-day and one-night trip on Garden Bay Cruise. It takes four hours to transfer from Hanoi Hotel to Halong Bay. There is a break in the middle. All the trips are scheduled according to a pre-programmed agenda. The activities were exciting and the dining quality was good. It is the perfect journey!

Wow Au Co Cruise is pretty special

This four story sailing boat is such a great place to stay. It’s like a floating hotel and better than any other boat I’ve ever been on. I thought there food was some of the best we had in Vietnam as well. Our room or cabin was pretty neat also the bathroom was very high class. We loved the kayaking, and the cave was so cool. This was a really good trip and I would do it again if we ever return. Bar prices were a bit steep but I suppose it’s like a top hotel. The wife was happy though, so I was happy. Sitting on the top deck with a cold beer watching the world go by was well cool.

A Fabulous Family Trip

Having just returned to England following an amazing holiday in Vietnam I thought I’d write a review about the best bit, Our Glory Legend Halong Bay Cruise. I’ve wanted to visit Vietnam ever since I saw a travel programme about it a few years ago. We were a little uncertain as we have two small children but it worked out perfectly. The cruise in this most picturesque bay proved to be the best family experience. The children found life on the ship really exciting and out family room was extremely luxurious. We had breakfast delivered to our room and sat on our own balcony enjoying great food as we sailed through some of the prettiest scenery I’ve ever seen. I just wished we’d booked for longer. A huge thank you to the staff on the ship who worked non stop to make sure we all enjoyed ourselves.

Nice ride from Hanoi to Halong

We opted for the 3 days and 2 nights on the Glory cruise. We were picked up at our hotel Hanoi and taken on a bus early. The ride took a few hours, but it was nice to be able to watch the countryside roll by. Beautiful area. We stopped at a few places along the route to buy some trinkets and grab some snacks.. The bus was full but comfortable for the entire journey to Halong bay. The tourist shops along the way were well liked by the children. It is a bit touristy but gives you a good idea of what is available in Vietnam to buy as gifts. The Halong Glory legend cruise was great. Best seafood I've ever eaten!

Lovely time with Glory Legend Cruise

Glory Legend Cruise and the crew were amazing! The cruise ship is gorgeous with beautiful appointments in both the bedroom and the public areas. The food was outstanding and the service was champion. Excursions were very informative and full of good sights, the bay provided lots of photo opportunities. The weather - perfect! Considering its rainy season, we only had a tiny bit of rain. Service: Staff were friendly and always looking to help. The entire experience was wonderfully luxurious. I give my highest recommendation to take Glory Legend Cruise.

Fabulous trip for a celebratory birthday

Hubby decided that he wanted to visit Vietnam for a milestone birthday. We were greeted by a number of employees who could not have treated us better. The two-day excursion was brilliant from start to finish with an exceptional space on the second floor, followed by excellent food and exceptional service by the entire team. If you want to visit Vietnam and visit Halong Bay, we would like to revive Indochina Sails for a luxurious stay with outstanding hospitality.

All aboard the good ship Glory Legend

I have enjoyed ocean cruises, a Nile cruise, a Mekong River cruise and now the best of the lot, a Halong Bay Cruise. Great scenery, great food, great accommodation and great people. Highlights for me were the cave and the floating village which was an amazing look into other people's lives. I thought this company got the balance right between organized trips and relaxation. I also loved the sight of the lights from other boats at night when we moored up in a sheltered bay.

We booked the Halong Glory Legend Cruise. The company's bus collected us from our hotel in Hanoi and delivered us to the quayside for the start of our trip. The boat was surprisingly comfortable, with our room looking a bit like a normal hotel room. The bathroom was lovely. I liked the caves, which was so much bigger than I expected. The food was really good as well. The only down side was the amount of rubbish in the water, in places it really is bad. It needs cleaning up and people need to stop throwing it in the water. But apart from that it was a really good trip.

A Fantastic Cruise in Halong Bay

Halong Glory Legend cruise shows that it offers the most exhilarating stay with fun and relaxing cruise. It provides a good place for doing activites at one's pace with plenthy of qulity delicious food. The captain of this cruise was so hilarious, friendly yet entertaining. The staff was very professional, extremely organized, attentive and welcoming.   They have cabins which are very luxurious and fantastic scenarios.Our room was very tidy and spacious with private balcony offereing an entirely peaceful and calm atmosphere in during the mornings. The weather in Halong bay was fantastic, not too hot, not too cold, just perfect for people like us who first time in Vietnam. They provide amazing programs suck as visiting caves that we enjoyed so much.   There are plenty of cool, enjoyable actitives to do such as: kayaking, swimming, cave sight seeing that blend us into the beauty of nature and adventure.   The prices are also very affordable.   In the end of the day, the best thing you can do is having a drink on the sundecks.  This tour was totally worth it.

A superb 3 days

I have just returned home after an amazing holiday in Vietnam. The highlight of which was three days in Halong Bay, wining and dining on Halong Glory Legend cruise, a beautiful old style trading junk. The ship looked amazing and was even better when we got on it. The cabin was superb, everything was first rate. And what a bay! It is one of the most stunning places I have ever seen hands down. The younger people onboard went off in Kayaks, but we just stayed onboard, relaxing on the sundeck, enjoyed a couple of cocktails and thanked our lucky stars for being able to enjoy this wonderful country. The people were so kind to us. I hope we can afford to come back some time in the future.

Food is included as part of the package. Some of the drinks are additional priced and the food is more expensive than if you are staying in Halong. Food selection is nice tht there can be Western and Eastern style. The excursions of the glory cruise are so much exciting and there are not a lot that aren't exciting. All the staff are very friendly and will help you with the needs you are after.

Great staff and beautiful scenery

I did one night on the Halong Glory Legend Cruise and found our cabin to be great. Staff were friendly and Ha Long was just amazing. The excursions were amazing but we had a bit of trouble with the tight time-table. Everything seemed to be in a hurry, I wish I could have more time to enjoy the beautiful beach and the scenery. However all mini tours were very informative and full of good sights.     Some people reserved outdoor seating for dinner in advance and I would recommend you do the same. The food was simply delicious and the service was impeccable. Drinks were reasonably priced and the wine list was full of good wines.    Highly recommend!

More than expectation!

Our Halong glory legend cruise went smoothly and had a lot of spaces for enjoyments. A couple of hours that we spent in Cua Van fishing village would certainly be in our memories for long. We got to know the lives of fishermen in a better way here. The excitement doubled at Ho Ba Ham Islet.. what a lovely atmosphere was there all around we all three had a lot of fun, perhaps that became the reason for my daughter's cold. Never mind.

Surprised with the staff's English

Got picked up within the estimated time at the hotel and taken to Halong Bay. I was impressed with the ship, honestly was not expecting that. Nice cabins, by far the best food I've ever had in Vietnam. The staff was excellent, and our guide explained everything to us in a very clear, concise manner. His English was top notch. They even allowd us to switch up the music on the the upper deck when other folks weren't around. Never had waiters make me belly laugh like the ones on Halong Glory Legend cruise. I would definitely go back to Halong Bay and back to Glory Legend.

Saints announce 2025 Saints Legends Fan Cruise

H ere's a new one. On Monday, the New Orleans Saints announced their partnership with Seaside Events to launch the Saints Legends Fan Cruise in April 2025, which you can read more about here . The seven-night cruise on the  Norwegian Getaway will tour the Western Caribbean with stops in Mexico, Belize, and Honduras.

What's unique is that this gives diehard Saints fans the opportunity to interact with some of their favorite players at meet and greets, group dinners, panel discussions, and autograph sessions, among other events. Additionally, the first 50 cabin bookings will receive seats at the Suite or Club level for a 2024/2025 Saints home game.

Saints owner Gayle Benson announced the cruise in a statement from the team: "We are thrilled to join forces with Seaside Events for this exciting venture, offering Saints fans an exclusive opportunity to interact with our Legends in a vibrant and exclusive atmosphere, fostering memories that will endure for a lifetime."

So who will be in attendance? Pro Football Hall of Famer Rickey Jackson has already committed for the cruise, and so has fan favorites like Pat Swilling, Michael Lewis, Joe Horn, and Fred McAfee, and many other former Saints players.
