If you're not sure if cruising is right for you, how about a two-hour sampling? Hornblower Cruises offers sailings out of seven California cities — San Diego, San Francisco, Sacramento, Berkeley, Marina del Rey, Newport Beach and Long Beach — as well as New York City, and you can choose from a variety of cruises: whale watching, lobster dinners and my favorite ... brunch!

Looking for a great last-minute Father's Day idea? Treat dear old Dad to a Hornblower brunch cruise on June 16. Or celebrate just about any holiday or occasion. Turn off the grill and set a course with the family to a Hornblower harbor.

Not long ago I was invited to take part in a champagne brunch cruise that departed from the cruise ship terminal in San Diego Harbor. 

The cruise started out with an open buffet, which stayed open the majority of the cruise. The crew offered us champagne throughout the entire sailing, too. The morning voyage took us around San Diego, under the Coronado Bridge, around Seaport Village and alongside the skyline for ideal photos. We returned to the dock after two hours of sailing.

The Hornblower Cruises are perfect for locals looking for a unique way to experience  San Diego  or any of the other ports that the company serves.

Options? You might want to organize a friends get-together or girlfriends getaway, a birthday — the birthday guy or gal cruises for free! — or a romantic date, which is what Preston and I did. Other ideas include wedding cruises, private dinners, graduation celebrations, engagement parties, bachelorette parties and more. Plus, it's ideal for special occasions such as Father's Day, Mother's Day, Valentine's Day and a host of holidays. 

For San Diegans who love to sail and cruise, this is the perfect way to spend an afternoon! My favorite part of the cruise were the photo opportunities that you can't capture from land.

The Hornblower is ideal for travelers in San Diego to be able to experience an activity on the water, which is what we locals are so well known for! Located less than a mile from the airport and cruise terminal, this is the perfect activity to do right when you arrive, or right before you are on your way out. With a variety of cruise options, there's something for everyone.

The San Francisco cruises are similar to the San Diego cruises with champagne brunch and dinner sailings. Marina Del Rey offers cruises not just on special occasions (Father's Day, July 4th) but with weekend brunch and dinner cruises. New York  offers city sightseeing tours, dinner cruises, New York light cruises and even after-work happy hour cruises. Plus, you can now find Hornblower cruises out of Newport Beach, Long Beach, Berkeley and Sacramento.

Are there any age restrictions for this cruises?

There are no age restrictions. Please note, all minors require adult supervision.

What should I wear?

This cruise requires semi-formal attire such as dress pants, dress shirts, skirts or dresses, and dress shoes. Casual jeans, t-shirts, and sandals are not permitted.

What should I bring?

Please bring a valid photo ID. The U.S. Coast Guard requires all passengers over 18 years old to have valid photo identification. Also, bring along a light jacket or wrap as it may get a bit breezy on the outer decks.

Is the cruise regulated by the U.S. Coast Guard?

City Cruises' vessels are subject to inspections by the U.S. Coast Guard and have licensed crew members onboard. They also follow Maritime Security (MARSEC) guidelines.

What time do I board the ship?

Boarding time is 30 minutes prior to departure.

Is smoking allowed?

Smoking is prohibited in all areas on board.

Is there pre-assigned seating for dinner cruises?

As you board, the captain and marine crew will direct you to your deck. From there the host/hostess will show your party to your assigned table(s). Decks are never guaranteed to non-private groups. They assign seats based on needs and capacity for each cruise.

Will I get my own table?

There will be a guaranteed table for your party size.

Are there vegetarian options available for dinner cruises? Can I make a special menu request?

Yes, vegetarian meals are available and can be arranged at the time of booking. If you have a group with dietary restrictions, please make your request in the "Have Special Needs" comment box when booking your tickets.

Can we meet the captain and visit the pilot house?

Guests are welcome to come and meet the captain and the first officer. However, for safety and security reasons, they ask that you check with the staff onboard before visiting the pilot house.

For dinner cruises, when does the meal begin?

Dinner service begins immediately upon embarking.

Can I bring cakes and flowers on board?

Cakes may be brought on board, however, you will be charged a cake cutting fee. Small flower bouquets are also permitted. Please keep in mind you are on a ship, so top heavy arrangements will not be stable. Unfortunately, early boarding is not available.

Are life preservers on board?

Each vessel is 100% Coast Guard certified with life preservers and all required lifesaving equipment, including child life vests.

Is the cruise wheelchair accessible?

This cruise is not wheelchair accessible.

Does City Cruises validate parking?

They do not validate for parking.

What happens if it rains or snow?

This cruise sails rain or shine. In the case of severe weather conditions or upon the direction of the U.S. Coast Guard, the vessel will remain dockside, but provide the full dining service.

Is gratuity included?

A service charge is collected at the time of reservation, related to the cruise and the service included in the ticket. If you wish to purchase additional beverages or food enhancements onboard, they recommend you leave a gratuity onboard based on the quality of service provided to you by your server.

We had a ball Sunday. It was a very good experience. The one gentlemen with a lot of personality, I can’t remember his name but he had a great attitude, bubbly personality, very friendly. The bartender was great. Very nice and friendly, quiet, sweet young lady. Everyone loved the vessel. It was beautiful and large enough for our crowd. I loved the stadium seating at the front of the ship. This area was perfect for our games that we played, Family Feud and Deal or No Deal. I thought we were going to hook our mics into your PA system. But it worked out great anyway because we had karaoke going on in the main dining room and we had games going on the upper deck. It was so secluded each section that you could not disturb what was going on in one group versus the other. I thought that worked out perfectly. We definitely will use Harbor Cruises for our next party event. Thank you and your staff. Job well done.

I had an awesome time, as did the Chief, Lieutenant, Committee and most of the attendees. I enjoyed the food, as did my table, the Chief’s table, etc. The crew were fantastic! Captain was extremely personable, he kept me or the Chief informed of any plans and at the end wanted a picture with the 2 of us. I enjoyed working with you and thought that everything went well. Chief Velez said at the party that I will have a hard time topping this next year. Also, we had a Corporal and his date get stuck on the freeway, their GPS said they wouldn’t arrive until after 7:30, the Captain offered to pick them up at Alamitos, allowing us to set sail and them still to catch the boat, the caterers set aside food for them. I thought it was wonderful that they didn’t miss the boat! Again, thank you for everything!

I’d like to thank you for all you did for us Nikki. You were great on our initial contact and on getting us a quote in a timely fashion and then right into the arranging of the event with my wife. But then you stayed in constant communication with us up until the boat left the dock. You don’t know how important that is for us customers who are so stressed about everything coming out right. Thank you. You had a lot of great ideas and whatever issues or problems we were having you addressed and corrected immediately. Just a pleasure to work with and Dan should be proud of how you represent him and his company. Once we drove up you were there to help us and introduce us to Jason who took over from there. Jason was not only super efficient but was pleasant and funny and a great guy to have around throughout the evening. He was a total professional and worked tirelessly to keep my wife and daughter from stressing and kept the event flowing all night. Hi, Nikki! After all of those weeks of coordination and preparation with you, everything was “smooth sailing” on our end! The caterer was fantastic and so accommodating – everyone loved the food! The crew was seamless and efficient in service, and plates and cups were spirited away by invisible hands always keeping the area neat and tidy. The captain delivered a remarkably smooth ride as we cruised past all of the landmark sites in the Long Beach harbor. The party on Saturday was beyond anything I could have hoped for. I had been so worried about how things were going to work out but I have to say this party was perfect in every way! The food was fabulous and although I had originally wanted a sit down meal, I think doing the Mexican finger food was actually much better. It gave a chance for people to get food when they wanted and to move about and mingle at their own pace. The entire staff was so wonderful. They were always there to help if needed and they were so friendly. I also wanted to thank you for helping to make this all happen. I knew that I couldn’t let Dan’s retirement pass without some kind of celebration and Harbor Breeze Cruises was the perfect option for this celebration. Thank you again so much. I just wanted to THANK each and every person who helped make our cruise such a success! The amazing 5 level Yacht was just breath taking when we walked up. Then when we got to the upper deck and there was champagne waiting for us to do our “Cheers to 30 years” it was just beautiful. The sunset and all the people getting to socialize in such an amazing place, it was just priceless! Bartenders were great, quick and friendly! The food was delicious and there was plenty to choose from! We here at WAI would like to thank you for all you did for us, it was a night to remember!

Worth Every Penny

Coming from the Midwest, I have only seen such species in aquariums. I was able to see them in their natural habitat and so close that I could hear their blowholes and sounds they were making to each other. The captain was really attentive towards finding activity, and the tour guide did an excellent job when explaining the mammals as we were seeing their interaction and behavior. Moreover, the vessel had plenty of room to move around and facilities for those that don’t have sea legs. Awesome experience!

The professionalism began long before the guests arrived, with the staff and crew at our disposal before the event. Nikki responds seconds after any requests. The Captain and crew are top notched – from the complimentary champagne, safety briefing, pointing out dolphins, serving the savory dishes, pouring wine for the guests and of course – serving the birthday cake! Two excellent Captains on board – what more can you ask for! SUGGESTION: Hire as many additional staff you think you might need – the professional service is a BARGAIN towards you (Host/Hostess) actually enjoying your own event! I celebrated my 50th Birthday on the Caroline and just hosted my best friend’s 70th!

My husband and I had our wedding reception on the Triumphant on Saturday, July 7, 2018 (Rich Cormier/ Raquel Jordan). Jared was the person that assisted us. We had several requests and he accommodated all of our requests from beginning to end. Every time we called Jared was always willing and able to answer our many questions. If there were any questions that he was unable to answer, he always followed up with us in a timely manner. His willingness to go above and beyond is commendable. We are grateful for the time and attention he gave us. Our wedding reception was absolutely beautiful, and we appreciate Jared and all that he did to ensure that our wedding reception cruise went smoothly. Thank you again Jared for providing quality service. We will definitely utilize Long Beach Cruises again and recommend LB Cruises to others and we will recommend Jared. We would also like to recognize the staff on the boat. From the captain to the bartenders (selected by Jared), the boat staff were polite and courteous to us and all of our family and friends. Hornblower Cruises are a great way to relax on a Sunday morning and enjoy a delicious brunch with a Harbor View. Grab a friend, or a family member and head over to Newport Beach for two hours of fresh air, music, and a buffet of endless food.

When you first arrive you will be seated in the big, bright dining room with windows from floor to ceiling for an optimal harbor view. While you wait to eat, your server will ask you if you would like a mimosa or a different beverage. There is a saxophone player playing Jazz music and there is also a full bar towards the rear of the dining room.

Bring your appetite because there is a large selection of food in the buffet. Even those with the pickiest palates will find something delicious to eat. After you eat head to the upstairs deck for some fresh air and comfortable seating. There are several couches with beautiful views. Or, if you are feeling very adventurous you can go into the helm of the ship and meet the captain! I even got a chance to steer the yacht under close guidance and it was really fun and informative!

Horn Blower cruises are a great way to explore Newport beach. You will pass Balboa Island and you may even see a car ferry in addition to the wedge, which is a spot located at the extreme east end of the Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach, California known for its large wedge shaped waves that makes it a popular spot for surfing. In today's culture, "booze cruise" is a pretty common phrase. And really, is there a better way to describe a boat ride with cocktails flowing freely among those onboard, whose main purpose of being there is to drink? Yeah, booze cruise fits just right. So whether you're looking for bachelorette party ideas , a way to ring in New Year's Eve , or just a fun night out with your friends, here are the best booze cruise options around Los Angeles.

Tiki Mermaid

Docked in Marina del Rey, this Polynesian-themed boat is stocked with a full bar, and you can add an open bar to any of the cruises they offer. If you're looking for a specific alcohol-focused cruise, the Tiki Mermaid offers a "Drink & Dance" cruise which includes a three hour yacht rental, an unlimited full bar (with well brand alcohol), as well as snacks of pretzels and nuts.  Tiki Mermaid is located at 13755 Fiji Way, Marina del Rey (310-410-8454). "Drink & Dance" cruise is $57 per person (40 minimum) or $69 per person (25 minimum). 

Hornblower Cruises

Hornblower has multiple locations along Southern California's coastline, and while its Marina del Rey and Newport Beach ports offer brunch and dinner cruises, we wouldn't consider those booze cruises. However, during summer months, the Long Beach port hosts a 90-minute cocktail cruise at 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays with live music and alcohol.  Hornblower's Long Beach port is located at 100 Aquarium Way, Dock 6  ( 310-301-6000) . The cocktail cruise is $40. 

Why Knot? Party Cruises

This historic 1942 Navy ferry vessel is now a party vessel with a full-service bar and dance floor. The boat will go through the Port of Long Beach, under the Desmond Bridge and land back at Berth 55. These cruises are not on a regular schedule, but can be booked independently with charters available between 9am and midnight. The boat can fit up to 110 people and there's a three-hour minimum.  Why Knot? Party Cruises is located at 555 Pine Ave, Berth 55, in Long Beach (562-349-4209). Charter prices vary depending on the day, ranging between $350 an hour to $450 an hour. 

Cruise Newport Beach

If you're looking for a booze cruise in Orange County, this company offers two party cruises ripe for a good time. Cruise Newport Beach's Fiesta Cruise features complimentary chips and salsa as well as a full-service cantina, while the Entertainment/Nightlife Cruise features live music, dancing and, yes, a full bar. Both cruises take you through Newport Bay.  Cruise Newport Beach is located at 400 Main St, Newport Beach (949-673-1489). Cruise dates and times vary. Fiesta Cruise tickets are $25; Entertainment/Nightlife Cruise tickets vary. 

Cruise Invictus

This 35-foot sailboat may not have a bar on board, but you're encouraged to bring your favorite drinks along with you on any of their available cruises. If you're truly looking for a booze cruise feel, we suggest Happy Hour Fridays. This cruise has a pit stop at Killer Shrimp so you can sip on cocktails and snack on appetizers before getting back on board to finish the sailing trip.  Cruise Invictus is located in Marina del Rey. Happy Hour Fridays (only available for group of six) is $125 per person. 

Carnival Cruise Line

The Carnival Cruise to Ensenada, Mexico, is the ultimate booze cruise. You'll need some stamina for this three-day trip, which includes two days at sea and one day at the port in Ensenada. On board, guests can enjoy swimming pools, water slides, restaurants and, of course, lots of drinking.  Carnival Cruise Line's Ensenada bound ship departs from Long Beach on a varying schedule. Cabins range from $194–$499 per person.

Country Booze Cruise 2017

If you have the stamina to drink and dance for three nights, then this country-themed booze cruise is for you. The ship will leave from Long Beach on Friday, January 6, 2017, for a three night party featuring live bands, DJ, line dancing, and, of course, booze. It will dock in Ensenada, Mexico, on Saturday and return to the Long Beach port Monday, January 9. The Country Booze Cruise 2017 is Jan 6-9. Cabins prices range from $231-$480.
