KITTIE Return With First New Music In Thirteen Years & Announce Signing with Sumerian Records!
In a monumental return that marks their first new music in thirteen years, glass-ceiling-shattering original Queens of Metal, Kittie have unveiled brand new single “Eyes Wide Open.” The track is accompanied by a gloriously powerful, dark music video that perfectly captures the themes of the track. This significant milestone is made even more special as Kittie announces their signing with the world-renowned independent label Sumerian Records .
Stream “Eyes Wide Open” HERE and watch the official music video below!
“Eyes Wide Open” is a powerful statement from a band that has not only shaped the landscape of heavy metal but also inspired a generation of musicians to break barriers and defy expectations. Produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush, Alice In Chains, Korn), the single serves as a testament to Kittie’s undiminished passion and creativity, offering fans a glimpse into their evolved sound while simultaneously staying true to the raw intensity that first catapulted them into the spotlight 25 years ago.
Morgan Lander , Kittie’s co-founder and frontwoman, expressed her enthusiasm for the band’s return and new partnership: “Sometimes, incredible opportunities present themselves in surprising ways. Just a few years ago we could have never imagined we would be getting ready to release new music as Kittie. We’ve been given what feels like a second life and are grateful to Ash and the Sumerian family for believing in us.”
Sumerian Records Founder and CEO, Ash Avildsen adds: “Kittie are true female pioneers in heavy music that helped bring it into pop culture. They have been both influential in the studio and on the road, as I’ve had the privilege of working with them on touring years ago when they brought out Bring Me The Horizon, In This Moment and many other present day heavyweights as brand new opening acts. The ladies have now returned with what I believe is their greatest album since their debut that set the world ablaze. The attitude, grit and songwriting is all there and I am honored to once again be helping them unleash their talent to the masses.”
Speaking on the inspiration behind the new single, Lander goes on to share, “Our first new material in 13 years, ‘Eyes Wide Open’ is a vision quest for truth. It is a torch lit in the darkness of ignorance to reveal one’s true motives. ‘Eyes Wide Open’ is a lesson in trust, betrayal, and ultimately the ability to see behind the curtain to reveal all. It was one of the first songs we wrote, coming together again after a long time away from creating, and I think you can really hear the fires reigniting in this track.”
The music video for “Eyes Wide Open” is a visually stunning piece that perfectly complements the song’s themes of enlightenment and revelation and takes the viewer on a journey through light and darkness, mirroring the band’s own journey back to the forefront of metal music, where they belong.
With the release of “Eyes Wide Open,” which premiered on SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal earlier this week, Kittie – completed by co-founder and drummer, Mercedes Lander , guitarist Tara McLeod and bassist Ivy Vujic – is not just making an epic return; they are reasserting themselves as one of modern metal’s most dominant, brutal forces. Fans old and new are invited to witness the band’s resurgence, as they embark on this exciting new chapter with Sumerian Records.
Stay tuned for more on Kittie’s global metal domination coming soon!
ABOUT KITTIE
When you discovered Canadian bashers, Kittie, has a direct influence on how you see them. For those that were on board from the beginning with the Spit album, released in 1999, Kittie was considered part of the nu-metal movement. Going into their later albums, In The Black (2009) and I’ve Failed You (2011), the band had evolved into something far more sinister, and were viewed as a serious full-on metal outfit. Just as they seemed to be hitting their stride six albums into their career, however, Kittieslowly disappeared from the scene in the wake of touring for I’ve Failed You. The silence was eventually dubbed an “indefinite hiatus” by the band, broken only by a one-off hometown show in London, Ontario in 2017, and the release of the documentary, Kittie: Origins/Evolutions, in 2018. Until now…
Thirteen years later, that silence has been broken in earnest. Vocalist and guitarist, Morgan Lander, drummer Mercedes Lander, guitarist Tara McLeod and bassist Ivy Vujic maintain that Kittie did not break up because it is an ingrained part of their identity. The documentary and the one-off show in London were intended as a cap on everything, leaving a big question mark at what might happen down the road. Offers from promoters to do some shows in 2022 and 2023, including the sell-out, inaugural Sick New World Festival in Las Vegas, were enough to convince Kittie to dust off their instruments, resulting in a renewed interest in the band and a label deal with Sumerian Records.
When they finally did gather as a unit, it was like putting on a pair of comfortable boots, with no need to break things in before getting down to business. It turns out that thirteen years away has seen the band develop growth in songwriting, arranging, lyrical content and vocal melodies, creating something monstrous and volatile. Produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush, Alice In Chains, Korn), Kittie have finally surfaced and unleashed their first new single, “Eyes Wide Open” on Sumerian Records. With renewed fury and unfathomable sonic brutality, the new era of Kittie has begun.

Kittie, Morgan Lander Interview – The ‘Perfect Time’ for Kittie
Morgan Lander of Kittie – Story by Anne Erickson, photo by Whitney South
Morgan Lander of Kittie joins Anne Erickson for an in-depth interview about the status of the band
Kittie fans are in luck, as the longstanding metal band band is back in full force. Last year, Kittie played a handful of high-profile festivals. This year, they’re already lined up to perform at the Sick New World festival in Las Vegas in May, with more shows to be announced.
If you ask frontwoman Morgan Lander, she’ll tell you that Kittie are here to say. The timing feels “more right” for the band today, and they have lots of life ahead.
“I think we have a lot of plans coming up. Not too much that I can share, but definitely more shows are in the works,” she told Audio Ink Radio in a new interview. “I don’t think that it’s ever going to be something that we’ll be able to do full-time and tour nine months out of the year. It’s just not feasible and not even really cost-effective, to be honest with you, from that standpoint, as well. But, I think that we are going to make the band and music and shows a priority for the next few years, so that just means you’ll be seeing and hearing more of us.”
She added, “We’ll see what sort of shakes. We’ve got some interesting things coming down the pipeline, so I think, without giving too much away, I feel like the next few years will be very interesting and very exciting for the band.”
So, what about the possibility of new music? “It’s definitely something that’s on our to-do list,” Lander said. “It’s something we’ve been really interested in… it’s definitely something we want to do when the timing is right, when the situation is right, and it’s all starting to come together and feel more right. I guess it’s the perfect time.”
Switching gears to the big Pantera reunion, Lander is all for it. However, she says it does feel the like the heart of the band is missing.
“I’m a big Pantera fan. I’ve been a fan for a long time. We toured with them on OzzFest in 2000, so I got to see Pantera live quite a bit. I regret that I was too young for the early-’90s Pantera, but I did get to see them on OzzFest and at a number of shows for ‘Reinventing the Steel,’ and I actually got to stand side stage for their very last show ever in Japan…so, that’s all my Pantera backstory.”
She continued, “When I heard about it, I wasn’t mad about it. I feel like it is weird, because I feel like the heart and soul of that band were the Abbott brother, and everything about their playing- and not like I could ever compare myself to any of them, but I understand what it’s like to have a sibling in a band, and you play together for so long that you connect on a differed level. When they played, they had a certain swagger and connected on a certain level together, and that’s just something that comes with time and practice and all those things, but also that bond of being siblings. I know they were very close, obviously.”
Even so, Lander was “really excited” to see the reincarnation of Pantera. “We played the very first show that they were doing the reunion thing at, the Hell or Heaven festival in Mexico, but we weren’t able to get to the venue in time to see the show, so I didn’t get to see it myself with my own eyes. But, I was very excited to see it. But, it’s weird to me that it fees like the soul of the band is gone, but there were a lot of people who never got to see Pantera, and I’m sure their shows are great, and with time, they’ll get even better, and they’re doing a ton of stuff this year, and and I definitely want to see the set and see them play, even if it’s just to hear some of my favorite tunes. But, I’m not team Phil and Rex or team Dime and Vinnie or whatever. From a fan perspective, it’s cool to be able to see and hear those songs live again.”

KITTIE: 'People Are Gonna Be Really Excited When They Find Out What We've Been Up To'
In a new interview with Knotfest 's "She's With The Band" podcast, KITTIE drummer Mercedes Lander and guitarist/vocalist Morgan Lander spoke about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the long-awaited follow-up to the band's 2011 album "I've Failed You" . Mercedes said about the musical direction of the new KITTIE material: "I'm gonna say that we are just really stoked to write 1,200 percent bangers. I think that's just where we're at now. We want people to feel good. We want people to feel what we're feeling. I feel like bangers, that's what we're good at."
Asked by host Tori Kravitz about the possibility of KITTIE combining some of the old-school sound from the band's early days and mixing it up with a fresh approach, Morgan said: "I think marrying some of the ideas, 'cause I don't think we're ever going to put our JNCOs [jeans] on again. But, yeah, the idea of marrying some of those ideas — like who we are now with the ideas of who maybe we used to be and kind of being able to meet somewhere in the middle, but in a way that will just create something brand new again. I'm excited for it to be unleashed upon the world."
As for whether KITTIE is planning to release singles or a full-length album in the near future, Morgan said: "Things are happening, wheels are in motion, but we are just not able to announce anything yet. But I guess the blanket statement could be, like, people who are excited about KITTIE will continue to be excited for the next year. Things are happening. And I think it will be a really good year for us." Mercedes added: "I think people are gonna be really excited when they find out what we've been up to."
At some of its recent shows, KITTIE has been performing a brand new song called "Vultures" .
KITTIE played its first concert in five years in September 2022 at the Blue Ridge Rock Festival at the Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia.
Joining Morgan and Mercedes in KITTIE 's current lineup guitarist Tara McLeod and bassist Ivana "Ivy" Vujic .
Prior to Blue Ridge , KITTIE had not performed since its reunion show at London Music Hall in the band's native London, Ontario in 2017, celebrating the group's documentary "Kittie: Origins/Evolutions" .
Asked in an interview with the "Talk Toomey" podcast what led to Vujic returning to KITTIE for the most recent batch of dates, Lander said: " Ivy played on two of our albums, the last two albums that we did. She left the band right before the very last big tour that we ended up doing; she did the Soundwave Festival [in Australia] with us in 2012, and those were the last shows that we did with her. And she just kind of settled into her life, started a family, got married, and so that's sort of been what she's been up to. But Ivy 's a metal girl at heart and she's always been super, super easygoing about stuff. I just sent her a message and I was, like, 'Hey, can we talk?' And we had a really, really great phone call and I just sort of explained the situation, explained what was going on. I asked her if she'd be into doing it, and she was, like, 'Yeah. Sounds great.' … It's very much one of those things where you don't talk that often anymore, you don't see each other that often, but then, when you all get together again, that chemistry and that vibe is always there."
Morgan continued: "I feel like that lineup of KITTIE in particular was always very super pro, super chill — no stress, no drama. Just, like, 'You know what? We're gonna go out there and we're gonna sound amazing.'
"She's an incredible bass player. I don't think that Ivy gets enough credit. She is absolutely incredible."
Vujic joined KITTIE in 2008 and appeared on the band's fifth studio CD, 2009's "In The Black" . She also wrote and recorded bass for KITTIE 's sixth album, 2011's "I've Failed You" .
In January 2022, the original lineup of KITTIE — Morgan , Mercedes , Fallon Bowman (guitar) and Tanya Candler (bass) — reunited for an online chat to celebrate the 22nd anniversary of its gold-certified 2000 debut album, "Spit" .
Candler left KITTIE after the release of "Spit" in order to finish high school and was replaced by Talena Atfield .
Bowman exited KITTIE in 2001 and started her own industrial/electronic project, AMPHIBIOUS ASSAULT .
After KITTIE completed the touring cycle for 2011's "I've Failed You" album, the band entered a long period of inactivity during which Morgan focused on a marketing job for a chain of fitness clubs while Mercedes worked in real estate and more recently at a software company. The group also began work on a career-spanning documentary, "Origins/Evolutions" , which finally saw the light of day in 2018 via Lightyear Entertainment in North America.
"I've Failed You" sold 3,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 178 on The Billboard 200 chart.

Last night (April 7th) at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina's House of Blues, Brendon Small triumphantly brought Dethklok — the real-life version of the cartoon Metalocalypse band — back to the stage for the first date of their "Mutilation on a Spring Night" tour.
Marking the first Dethklok set since the fall of 2023, the latest leg found the most brutal band in the world dipping into the comedic death-metal carnage of their deep catalog — from the requisite, introductory "Deththeme" and original Dethalbum classics like "Murmaider" and "Thunderhorse," up to more recent Dethalbum IV rippers like "SOS" and "Mutilation on a Saturday Night."
You can see fan-shot footage from the show up above.
The show also featured animated support sets from shred-happy power-metal vets Dragonforce , and green-masked metal oddballs Nekrogoblikon .

Moscow might surprise and delight, recharge and challenge you. I just suggest yo...
Some places capture my interest because their smell is from my childhood, they remind me of something from my distant past. So does this museum in the centre of Moscow. Why do I love it? Because there are always different events held here or on the ground in front of the entrance. Last time I came to watch drummers. It was passionate but cold and I longed to get warm. So I entered the building.
There are several levels. The main hall is located on the second floor. I find the exhibition there great. Besides enormous kinds of very interesting huge and tiny musical instruments one more object attracts my attention – it is how local grandmothers keep their eye on each visitor not to shoot unpaid photos.
Once when I was there the ticket also included entry to a local concert which was organized right in the centre of the main room. So I enjoyed some strange but melodious music by a small band. It was a lovely evening. What I learned – it’s better to check the agenda for the day to plan everything more precisely.
In the lobby on the second floor you’ll find a Schuke organ. From time to time concerts are held here. And I haven’t even mentioned the lectures and seminars held here!

Kittie Return With First New Music In Thirteen Years & Announce Signing with Sumerian Records
In a monumental return that marks their first new music in thirteen years, glass-ceiling-shattering original Queens of Metal, Kittie have unveiled brand new single “ Eyes Wide Open “. The track is accompanied by a gloriously powerful, dark music video that perfectly captures the themes of the track. This significant milestone is made even more special as Kittie announce their signing with the world-renowned independent label, Sumerian Records . Stream “ Eyes Wide Open ” HERE and watch the official music video HERE or below.
“ Eyes Wide Open ” is a powerful statement from a band that has not only shaped the landscape of heavy metal but also inspired a generation of musicians to break barriers and defy expectations. Produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush, Alice In Chains, Korn), the single serves as a testament to Kittie ‘s undiminished passion and creativity, offering fans a glimpse into their evolved sound while simultaneously staying true to the raw intensity that first catapulted them into the spotlight 25 years ago.
Morgan Lander , Kittie ‘s co-founder and frontwoman, expressed her enthusiasm for the band’s return and new partnership: “ Sometimes, incredible opportunities present themselves in surprising ways. Just a few years ago we could have never imagined we would be getting ready to release new music as Kittie. We’ve been given what feels like a second life and are grateful to Ash and the Sumerian family for believing in us .”
Speaking on the inspiration behind the new single, Lander goes on to share, “ Our first new material in 13 years, ‘Eyes Wide Open’ is a vision quest for truth. It is a torch lit in the darkness of ignorance to reveal one’s true motives. ‘Eyes Wide Open’ is a lesson in trust, betrayal, and ultimately the ability to see behind the curtain to reveal all. It was one of the first songs we wrote, coming together again after a long time away from creating, and I think you can really hear the fires reigniting in this track. “
The music video for “ Eyes Wide Open ” is a visually stunning piece that perfectly complements the song’s themes of enlightenment and revelation and takes the viewer on a journey through light and darkness, mirroring the band’s own journey back to the forefront of metal music, where they belong.
With the release of “ Eyes Wide Open ,” which premiered on SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal earlier this week, Kittie – completed by co-founder and drummer, Mercedes Lander , guitarist Tara McLeod and bassist Ivy Vujic – is not just making an epic return; they are reasserting themselves as one of modern metal’s most dominant, brutal forces. Fans old and new are invited to witness the band’s resurgence, as they embark on this exciting new chapter with Sumerian Records .
ABOUT KITTIE
When you discovered Canadian bashers, Kittie , has a direct influence on how you see them. Just as they seemed to be hitting their stride six albums into their career, however, Kittie slowly disappeared from the scene in the wake of touring for I’ve Failed You . The silence was eventually dubbed an “indefinite hiatus” by the band, broken only by a one-off hometown show in London, Ontario in 2017, and the release of the documentary, Kittie: Origins/Evolutions , in 2018. Until now…
Thirteen years later, that silence has been broken in earnest. Vocalist and guitarist, Morgan Lander , drummer Mercedes Lander, guitarist Tara McLeod and bassist Ivy Vujic maintain that Kittie did not break up because it is an ingrained part of their identity. The documentary and the one-off show in London were intended as a cap on everything, leaving a big question mark at what might happen down the road. Offers from promoters to do some shows in 2022 and 2023, including the sell-out, inaugural Sick New World Festival in Las Vegas, were enough to convince Kittie to dust off their instruments, resulting in a renewed interest in the band and a label deal with Sumerian Records .
When they finally did gather as a unit, it was like putting on a pair of comfortable boots, with no need to break things in before getting down to business. It turns out that thirteen years away has seen the band develop growth in songwriting, arranging, lyrical content and vocal melodies, creating something monstrous and volatile. Produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush, Alice In Chains, Korn), Kittie have finally surfaced and unleashed their first new single, “ Eyes Wide Open ” on Sumerian Records . With renewed fury and unfathomable sonic brutality, the new era of Kittie has begun.

Rating: 5 out of 5 Kittie @ Beaumont Club (Kanas City, Missouri) by Anonymous on 6/11/12 Beaumont Club - Kansas City. Well, sadly, it seems that the venue either had no faith in this show, or felt it would fuse nicely with a random opportunity they were afforded (Warbringer doing a random off-date show during their current tour).
