Loay is a coastal town located at the mouth of the Loboc River, about 18.3 kilometers from Tagbilaran City. It lies along the southwestern coast of Bohol. This upcoming and flourishing town is now considered a 5th class municipality with a population of 15,881 people as per the 2007 census.

Going to the interior towns of Loboc, Bilar and so forth, one passes by Loay town. Likewise, one will also pass by Loay going to the towns of Lila, Dimiao, Valencia, Garcia-Hernandez, and Guindulman and onwards along the southwestern coast.

The town is politically subdivided into 24 barangays, to wit: Agape, Alegria Norte, Alegria Sur, Bonbon, Botoc Occidental, Botoc Oriental, Calvario, Concepcion, Hinawanan, Las Salinas Norte, Las Salinas Sur, Palo, Poblacion Ibabao, Poblacion Ubos, Sagnap, Tambangan, Tangcasan Norte, Tangcasan Sur, Tayong Occidental, Tayong Oriental, Tocdog Dacu, Tocdog Ilaya, Villalimpia and Yanangan.

The town covers an area of 3,479 hectares with farming, copra making, peddling, saguran weaving, fishing, tuba gathering and nipa thatch making as the people’s principal industries. The Poblacion is now a hive of activity where many of the town’s commercial establishments are gathered.

The town is divided into two parts: the lower called Canipaan because of its many nipa swamps, and the upper called Ibabao because of its elevated location. The Loay Church and its convent are located on a plateau overlooking the sea. Stone steps lead to the church which connects it to the rest of the town located below the hill. The church can be accessed by motor vehicles via the road to Loboc.

One prominent feature of the town is the Plaza. The plaza depicts a Spanish colonial plaza in its simplicity with only a wide open stretch of grassy space devoid of any landscaping and decorative elements. Flanking the plaza are two coral stone buildings: a one-story and a two-story building, both plainly designed and classical to look at.

The one-story building is being used by a public school while the two-story building, with the emblem of the Virgin Mary and directly opposite that of the one-story building, is in the process of renovation. The diocese of Tagbilaran is converting this building into an archdiocesan archive for church documents from the Spanish period coming from 38 parishes comprising the diocese.

The town celebrates its feast day in May (the date is movable) with the Santisima Trinidad or Blessed Trinity as Patron Saint. One big event is the Sambat Mascara Y Regatta Festival celebrated every 1st Saturday of December in honor of the town’s second Patron Saint, St. Francis Xavier.

Aside from the Loay Church and the Clarin Ancestral House , the town’s other tourist attractions are the Clarin Beach Resort, the Himontagon Hills, Punta Baluerte, and Rio Vista Heights including the Spanish watchtower at Villalimpia in the lower part of the town.

Not only Bohol’s most famous sight but also one of the Philippines’ most popular sights, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Chocolate Hills are a must-see. Located in the centre of the island is a vast landscape of over 1,000 almost identical and symmetrical mounds.

During the rainy season, from June to November, the hills are carpeted in lush velvety green. But come the hot, dry season the hills change into a soft cocoa shade, making them look like mounds of chocolate. There’s a special viewing platform from where you can see right out over the expanse of hills or you can hike among them.

The Abatan River is located just north of the capital of Bohol – Tagbilaran City. Flanked by mangrove swamps, the river is prime firefly spotting territory. Paddling along at night with the dancing lights of the fireflies to guide you like twinkling stars is quite a magical experience. For those who don’t want to kayak or those with small kids, there are boat tours offered too.

If you want to see what’s possible when it comes to conservation, take a trip to Bohol’s man-made forest. Not far from the town of Loboc, the forest of hundreds of towering mahogany trees was planted by the local government as part of a reforestation project around 50 years ago. There are hiking trails that snake through the woods and up onto the hillside so you can admire its beauty. It’s also a popular spot for cycling.

See one of the world’s smallest primates – the tarsiers. These small bush baby-like creatures are known for their huge round eyes. They are found on at least four different Philippine islands, but by far the best place to see them is Bohol. While there are several different locations, the best is the Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary, where tarsiers live in the wild, in a large swathe of protected forest.

Located on Panglao Island, Hinagdanan Cave is one of the most fascinating caves in Bohol. Stalactites hang from a cavernous interior over a blue lagoon. Tours of the cave even allow for a quick swim in the incredibly blue water. While today it’s more of a natural attraction, in the past the cave was used as a place to hide from Japanese soldiers during the Second World War.

Where to stay near the Hinagdanan Cave:

The Hinagdanan Cave is less than 1km from the luxurious Mithi Resort & Spa , where tasteful thatched bungalows sit clustered around three aquamarine infinity pools, right in front of the beach.

The Philippines offers some of the best diving and snorkelling on the planet and Bohol is no exception. One of the best things to do in Bohol is to explore underneath the waves off Panglao Island, southwest of the main island. Both the Panglao Reef and the Napaling Reef are excellent spots.

As well as multi-coloured reef fish, they’re home to manta and eagle rays, green sea turtles, barracudas, jackfish and in the right season, thousands upon thousands of sardines. Napaling Reef is particularly known as a great freediving location.

Where to stay on Pangloa Island:

The stylish Amorita Resort , the sumptuous Eskaya Beach Resort and the contemporary Maribago (Bluewater) Panglao Resort are all situated on the island’s south coast, within easy reach of the Panglao Reef. Bohol Beach Club , with its thatched roof buildings located directly on the white sand beach, is also a great option.

The Rough Guide to the Philippines

Boat cruise on Loboc River, Bohol Island © Claudia travelling/Shutterstock

Flanked by emerald green forests and tall palms, the Loboc River is one of the most popular Bohol tourist spots. It winds its way from the coast at Loay up into the centre of the island among the Taytay Hills. One of the best ways to see it is aboard a long wooden boat that peacefully floats downriver from just south of the town of Loboc. Many of the boat tours include a huge local buffet of local delights that you can enjoy while admiring the natural beauty of the river.

Bohol is one of the best Philippines islands for dolphin watching. This is because of the deep waters south of the island in the Bohol Sea. One of the best places to see them is Pamilacan Island, located just south of the area between the main island of Bohol and Panglao Island.

Several different tour companies can take you out to see them, either from Baclayon on the mainland or on Panglao Island itself. The best time to see them is at dawn or at dusk when the dolphins are at their most playful and jump in the glow of the changing light.

Also known as the Dimiao Twin Falls, the Pahangog Falls are one of the best waterfalls on Bohol Island. Hidden deep in the forest of Brgy, the falls can be reached via a lovely hike. The hike down takes you through a lush jungle with views of rice terraces in the background. Once you arrive, you’ll find not one, but two falls, plunging into a clear blue pool, hence the nickname Twin Falls. In the end, you can reward yourself with a refreshing dip.

The tiny island of Balicasag is situated off the tip of the Panglao Reef and is another excellent spot for diving and snorkelling in Bohol. You’ll need to hire someone to take you over in a boat or book a dive or snorkel tour to get there. The sanctuary consists of several submarine cliffs which plunge into the depths, covered in bright corals and sponges.

The most common types of fish you’ll see here are jacks, mackerel and barracudas, while huge napoleon wrasse fish, groupers and snappers live further down below. If you’re here in December or January, you may even be treated to the sight of both hammerhead and whale sharks.

Anda beach in Philippines © Ekaterina McClaud/Shutterstock

Anda beach, Bohol Island Philippines © Ekaterina McClaud/Shutterstock

Bohol and its small islets are surrounded by idyllic tropical beaches, but one of the best is Anda Beach, situated on the eastern coast on a small peninsula. Its fine, powdery white sand gleams almost like snow against the deep blue of the clear sea and the bottle-green jungle behind.

Where to stay near Anda Beach:

For a longer stay, book yourself in at the Magic Islands Dive Resort , where small thatched chalets sit around a lovely pool. This is another great spot for diving and snorkelling. The resort even has its dive centre where you can rent equipment, go on dive excursions or even take your PADI course and learn.

It’s not only islands like Luzon that are home to picturesque rice terraces. You can see them in Bohol too. Cascading down the hillsides like jewel-green waterfalls studded with palm trees, they’re quite a sight to behold. After your hike through the terraces, you can cool down with a refreshing swim in the nearby Can-umantad Falls.

The Philippines is one of the most biodiverse places on Earth. There’s no better place to get close to nature – and embark on wild adventures – than the island province of Bohol.

Memento Mori

Himontagon Hills: A Serene And Picture-perfect Local Secret In Loay, Bohol

Himontagon Hills: A Serene And Picture-perfect Local Secret In Loay, Bohol

The first time I laid eyes on Bohol, I simply couldn’t help falling in love with its dramatic beauty and bucolic charm.  Even since then, I kept coming back to this island paradise, to admire its sought-after treasures and enthralling spots. But, eventually, the sight of the iconic Chocolate Hills, Panglao and its other famous spots became a bit of mundane to me. After all, I have explored all of Bohol’s quintessential tourist trails not just once, but on a number of occasions since childhood.  And, so, I decided to dive into a less-explored path – Himontagon Hills – to add a breath of fresh air to my Bohol escapades.

Himontagon Hills: A Serene And Picture-perfect Local Secret In Loay, Bohol

Doesn’t ring a bell? Himontagon Hills, or also referred as Morning Hills, have been a favorite, go-to spot for locals who are longing to escape the clutches of their bustling modern-day life. Praised for its verdant hills and fresh mountain air, these hills boast a soothing feel that can absolutely take away all your stress.

For non-Boholanos like me, though, the trail is relatively unknown, with very few out-of-towners setting foot on these scenic hills.  And luckily for me, I got the chance to see and experience this outstanding collection of picturesque hills with my good old pal, Rechie, and his wife, Celeste.

How I found about Himontagon Hills in Loay, Bohol

A week ago, I didn’t know that these hills exist in Loay, Bohol. Originally, my plan was to go to Candijay, and catch sight of its towering waterfalls and mesmerizing rice terraces. Unfortunately, a few days prior to our trip, my wife informed me that I can’t squeeze in a stop to Candijay on our next visit to Bohol. We were invited to a beautiful beach wedding in The Bellevue Bohol, and I had to be back in Panglao at 3 in the afternoon (we arrived in Bohol at 8:30 AM, meaning there’s not enough time to fully admire the scenery of Candijay).

Himontagon Hills: A Serene And Picture-perfect Local Secret In Loay, Bohol

But, as I’ve pointed out in my blog in the past, you can’t keep a relentless, wide-eyed traveler down. When my sense of wanderlust sets in, there’s nothing (except my wife) that can stop me from going on an adventure.  After scouring the internet and asking recommendations from the locals, I finally came up with an alternative that can appease my adventurous soul – a quick hike to Himontagon Hills.

My Himontagon Hills experience

My wife had no plans scaling a hill or mountain with The Bisaya Traveler in Bohol. Although she’s a bona fide traveler, she’s just not as enthusiastic as I am, when it comes to venturing into the great outdoors. And besides, she had a plethora of things to do in Panglao, to help her friends prepare for the one-of-a-kind beach wedding.

Since I have zero talents in wedding preps, I decided to follow my wanderlust, and hike Himontagon Hills. At first, I wanted to hit the trail alone, but ultimately, I opted to bring in Rechie and Celeste, so they can see the hidden wonders of their island.

Once we’ve finished dropping off my wife in Panglao, we wasted no time, and made our way to Dao Terminal, via Rechie’s motorbike. From there, we fetched Celeste, and took a 30-minute-ish ride to Loay, Bohol.

Quite frankly, Rechie and I had no clue about the exact location of this trail. Thankfully, though, Celeste had seen the sign leading Himontagon Hills before, as they were making her way to her hometown.

Upon seeing the sign, Rechie made a quick turn to the left, and up to the rugged road that leads to these green mounds. We didn’t get lost, along the way, because there’s literally no shortage of signs and reminders.

As the road got tougher and more rugged, Celeste and I asked Rechie to stop, so we can take a hike instead. While the trail is accessible by a motorbike, we just didn’t want to drive the motorbike into exhaustion. Also, Rechie’s bike was making some weird funny sounds, like a buzzing pump-boat heading for a remote island.

When we saw a perfect spot to park, a local and a kagawad approached us, to lend a helping hand (yes, Boholanos are in general friendly and helpful). In addition, they told that us the path to the summit would be a whole lot smoother on our next visit, with the local government working hard to improve their roads.

Moments later, we commenced on our hike to the top of Himontagon Hills!

Himontagon Hills: A Serene And Picture-perfect Local Secret In Loay, Bohol

The hike was, in spite of the sudden weather changes, a walk in the park. The trail is well-established, and isn’t as slippery and steep as some of the peaks I’ve scaled before.

Rechie, however, had difficulties catching up with us. As we were making our way to the top, he was gasping for air, feeling a little burned out. His wife, on the other hand, was in high spirits, and pretty energetic.

As it turns out, Rechie hasn’t been very actively lately, and has been hooked to addictive games like COC.  Hopefully, our hike to Himontagon Hills would be the start of a more active lifestyle for Rechie.

We kept on walking towards our destination, while talking about a lot of things, including the people we used to work with. I’ve known Rechie for nearly a decade, and I’ve seen him grow from a shy teenager to a responsible husband and father.  In some way, he’s like my younger brother whom I haven’t seen for a while.

Along the way, we saw white cross stations, and striking overlooking sights. And, every time Rechie got tired, we made a stop, to get a quick breather.

Ultimately, we reached the base for the final ascend to Himontagon Hills. At that time, Rechie was slightly thirsty, after all the steps he took to reach the area. Though we didn’t pack a bottle of water, there was a store near the top, where we brought some not-so cold refreshments.

Afterwards, we made the final ascend, and got treated to a sweeping panorama of Loay, Bohol.

Great views aside, the hills also had a fresh scent and a refreshing mountain breeze.

I took a pair of pictures of the couple, for memorabilia’s sake.

Of course, it snapped dozens of photos of Himontagon Hills, Loay and Bohol Sea from its camp site.

Himontagon Hills: A Serene And Picture-perfect Local Secret In Loay, Bohol

With its green grass, blue skies, flourishing trees, deafening silence and chirping birds, Himontagon Hills exuded a paradise-like ambiance. Indeed, it’s to date one of the most refreshing experiences I’ve ever had in Bohol.

Himontagon Hills: A Serene And Picture-perfect Local Secret In Loay, Bohol

I went around the area, snapping photos from a variety of angles, as Rechie and Celeste were resting their muscles. And in some angles, Himontagon Hills look a bit like the famous Marlboro Hills in Batanes.

Even though it was rather hot (it was almost noontime), it was very relaxing and rejuvenating, thanks to its sweeping views and fresh air. I even spent some time resting and admiring the incredible scenery of Himontagon Hills.

But, there was a minor drawback to my hike in Himontagon Hills. To be specific, I saw pieces of trash and traces from campers in some spots of Himontagon Hills. As a matter of fact, I saw a napkin and tissue papers in its camp site. Maybe, one day, the local government, hikers and visitors would be more responsible, and take great strides in preserving Himontagon Hills.

Nevertheless, it was a great short hike, and a great way to see a local secret in Bohol.

With our sense of wanderlust appeased, we went downhill, and headed back to the place where we parked Rechie’s motorbike. Later on, we ate our lunch in a restaurant in Panglao.

I, then, bid farewell to the lovely couple, and went back to our hotel in Alona Beach. As for the rest of the day, I also had a swell time, enjoying the beach and the fabulous wedding at The Bellevue Bohol.

Damn, I truly love Bohol!

How to get there

From Dao Terminal in Tagbilaran City, hop on a bus bound for Jagna or Ubay (Fare is PHP 20 per person). Ask the driver or conductor to drop you off at the starting point of the Way of the Cross in Barangay Botoc, Loay. If the driver or conductor isn’t familiar with the place, stay on the left side of the bus, and look out for the sign.

Likewise, you may rent a motorcycle for PHP 300 to 500 a day (8 hours), and drive up to Himontagon Hills.

Important notes:

  • Entrance fee to Himontagon Hills is FREE, as of this writing.
  • Practice Leave No Trace principles.
  • Bring food, and water.
  • From the starting point of the trail, the hike is about 3 to 4 kilometers, with an elevation of more than 300 meters. For regular outdoor adventurists, the hike may take around 45 minutes to an hour.
  • It’s a great place to go on a solo hike (my initial plan).
  • There are markers are crosses that will lead you to the stop, meaning you won’t get lost on your way to Morning Hills.
  • From what I’ve heard, there are also habal-habal drivers offering back-and-forth rides for PHP 100 per person. I’m not so sure about the rates, but some are saying that it will cost you that amount.
  • Enjoy the views. Himontagon Hills offer great views of Bohol Sea and Loay.
  • They don’t label it as Morning Hills for nothing. To get the best vistas, go there before the sun rises. Alternatively, you may also see its mesmerizing beauty, during sunset. Either way, you’ll love the setting of this splendid attraction in Bohol.

Behold Bohol

Loay, officially the Municipality of Loay (Cebuano: Munisipalidad sa Loay; Tagalog: Bayan ng Loay), is a 5th class municipality in the province of Bohol, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 17,855 people.

Located at the mouth of the Loboc River, the municipality can be divided into a lower and an upper part. The lower part used to be called Canipa‑an because of the presence of nipa swamps in this part of the town, while the upper part is named Ibabao, being located on a plateau.

Top things to do in Loay

Visit the Holy Trinity Church

Another old and charming church, loay parish is located west of tagbilaran city, Bohol. The church is cruciform, has two facades: the older is decorated with low relief and the newer was apparently completed in the 20th century as its upper register is in reinforced concrete. The whole is surmounted by cement statues depicting the virtues.

The bell tower is a separate structure built at a short distance from the church. Like many Bohol churches the interior is painted with trompe o’eil and with Biblical scenes. The altars are in the Neoclassical style.

Visit the Himontagon Hills

Himontagon Hills, also known as Morning Hills, is a scenic attraction located in the municipality of Loay in Bohol, Philippines. It is situated about 20 kilometers east of Tagbilaran City and can be reached via a short drive from the town proper.

Visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape, which includes rolling hills, verdant greenery, and distant mountain ranges. The area is also popular for picnics, as there are several shaded areas available for visitors to relax and take in the view.

One of the most unique features of Himontagon Hills is its morning mist, which blankets the hills and creates a mystical and enchanting atmosphere. The mist typically clears up by mid-morning, providing visitors with clearer views of the surrounding scenery.

Cruise on Loay River

The Loay River Cruise is a popular attraction in Loay, Bohol, providing visitors with an opportunity to experience the natural beauty and biodiversity of the river and its surrounding mangrove forests. The leisurely boat ride usually lasts for around an hour and a half, during which visitors can view and learn about the diverse flora and fauna of the region.

Along with the scenic views, the river cruise also offers visitors the chance to savor a traditional Filipino lunch, consisting of freshly cooked seafood and other local delicacies. Live music and cultural performances are often included, providing a complete cultural immersion experience.

Visit Museo ng Pamana at Kasaysayang Boholano

Museo ng Pamana at Kasaysayang Boholano is a museum located in the town of Loay, Bohol in the Philippines. The museum aims to preserve the history and cultural heritage of the Boholano people through its collection of artifacts, documents, and other historical items.

Loboc River Cruise in Bohol

Panaghoy sa Suba. (The Call of the River)

An award-winning Filipino film in 2004 which is about the story of the lives of Filipinos in Bohol during World War II. It was mostly shot in Loboc River. And with its success comes the curiosity of many for this river in Bohol .

I remember constantly seeing a picturesque photo of Loboc river that time. I was too young then that I never imagined myself that I would be an avid traveler and a travel blogger. But the photos remained in my memory.

Fast forward, destiny has finally become clear to me. I became a traveler and a writer, and Bohol was one of the places that I remember wanting to visit.

The universe might have heard my calling for Bohol , when a few months ago I was invited by Tourism Promotions Board of the Philippines to be part of a fam tour in Bohol together with international travel bloggers.

Loboc River Bohol philippines

The moment we arrived at the airport, we were off to our first destination, the Loboc River cruise.

The Loboc River (also called Loay River) is one of the widely popular tourist attractions in Bohol with its cruise or the floating restaurant that starts from the Loboc town until it reaches the Busay Falls.

Once aboard, Filipino food and tropical fruits will welcome every guest at the center of the barge. Since the entire floating restaurant was reserved for us, the trip to Loboc River immediately started. But if you’re going there with small group, expect a little waiting time for other tourists.

I enjoyed the buffet with mostly Filipino food with desserts, veggies and fruits.I was hungry at that time so I ate a lot. Haha Our guide, Ms. Grace, said that the usual fee for the cruise is about 450Php per person (see the full fees below this article) . I think it’s reasonable for the satisfying food and the picturesque view of the river.   Plus, a singer and a guitarist duo serenaded us.

It was also a chance for us, participants and fellow travel bloggers, to talk and share our stories.

That’s Scott of Bobochichi.com

That’s Ma’am Grace! 🙂

Loboc River Bohol philippines

That’s Ruchika and Scott!

I was already full and the only thing to do during that time was to enjoy the lush green forest and the calm river..

It was not really breathtaking but it was enough environment to chill after a sumptuous lunch. Some other interesting sights are some small houses, boats and children climbing the trees and jumping off the river.

Loboc River Bohol philippines

The farthest part is when when you see a small waterfalls called Busay Falls. Going back, another pleasant surprise happened when we docked in another barge and witnessed a sing and dance performance complete with costumes and props. And they danced Tinikling!

Being a Filipino, I can honestly say that we are accustomed to seeing some folk dance performances, so there was nothing really spectacular with it. But I guess, if you’re a foreign traveler it’s a new experience to enjoy.

Loboc River Bohol philippines

Again, it’s an amazing experience to finally traveled to Bohol.

It’s just surreal right? A place that ignited my curiosity from a movie years back has finally become real. It just keeps me inspired to travel and write more!

How to get to Loboc River

Book a flight to Tagbilaran, the capital of Bohol. Then a ride a jeepney or mini bus going to Loboc or Carmen. The drop off point is near the Loboc Church which is a walking distance to the Loboc River.

Loay is a coastal town located at the mouth of the Loboc River, about 18.3 kilometers from Tagbilaran City . It lies along the southwestern coast of Bohol .

One prominent feature of the town is the Loay Plaza . The plaza depicts a Spanish colonial plaza in its simplicity with only a wide open stretch of grassy space devoid of any landscaping and decorative elements. Flanking the plaza are two coral stone buildings: a one-story and a two-story building, both plainly designed and classical to look at.

The one-story building is being used by a public school while the two-story building, with the emblem of the Virgin Mary and directly opposite that of the one-story building, is being converted into an archdiocesan archive for church documents from the Spanish period coming from 38 parishes comprising the diocese.

The Loay Church and its convent are located on a plateau overlooking the sea. Stone steps lead to the church which connects it to the rest of the town located below the hill. The church can be accessed by motor vehicles via the road to Loboc .

Aside from the Loay Church, the town’s other tourist attractions are the Clarin Ancestral House , Clarin Beach Resort , the Himontagon Hills , Punta Baluerte , and Rio Vista Heights including the Spanish watchtower at Villalimpia in the lower part of the town.

1. Visit the Chocolate Hills

Chocolate Hills in Bohol, Philippines

No trip to Bohol is complete without seeing this iconic landmark, which is even featured in the local Philippine Peso currency . Bohol's claim to fame is the unique geological formation of over 1000 cone-shaped hills that change in color depending on the season – the  Chocolate Hills . You can view the hills from the Chocolate Hills Complex when you book Chocolate Hills tours . There’s a viewing deck with a stunning 360° view of the cone-shaped hills.

  • Book  Chocolate Hills ATV tours
  • Brush up on Chocolate hills facts

According to local legends, the hills were created by two giants who got into a fight and threw boulders and rocks at each other. The mess they left after their battle is said to eventually lead to the formation of the hills that we know today. Another story says that the hills are tears of a heartbroken giant who fell in love with a mortal.

The third story, quite a funny one, is about a giant carabao that plagued the town and ate all the crops. The townspeople then fed it their spoiled food. When the carabao defecated, they dried up to become the hills.

In reality, the Chocolate Hills are conical karst hills that were formed by the uplift of coral deposits combined with rainwater and erosion. It's considered to be an extraordinary example of karst topography and is the main highlight of most Bohol excursions .

3. Explore Hinagdanan Cave

Hinagdanan Cave features a pool of clear water at the bottom

The Hinagdanan Cave, one of the most beautiful caves in the Philippines , features a pool of clear water at the bottom. You can swim here under the mesmerizing sight of stalactites and stalagmites.

The word "hinagdanan" means laddered in Cebuano. This now-famous Bohol tourist destination is said been accidentally discovered by a farmer who built a ladder to access the cave, thus the name.

The cave also holds historical significance as it was once used by locals to hide during World War II.

During a trip to Panglao Island, only one person at a time can enter the 100-meter long cave. Be careful when traversing the trails as it can get slippery because of the moisture inside the cave.

Once you get inside, you will be treated to a breathtaking site of a freshwater lagoon that's about 10-12 meters deep.

Tarsiers are nocturnal and considered the smallest primates in the world

They grow to be just 15 centimeters long at most, and they're just so cute! Tarsiers can also be found in other Philippine destinations like Samar, Leyte, and parts of Mindanao. But Bohol is known for its tarsier sanctuary tours that help preserve and raise awareness about these species.

For the complete experience, you can join a Bohol day tour  that combines other Bohol tourist tourist attractions with this.

When visiting the tarsiers, remember that they are nocturnal and are asleep during the day. You'll find them perched on branches around the sanctuaries. Make sure to keep the noise down because they're sensitive to sound.

Taking their photos is fine but keep the flash turned off not to wake them up. Touching them is also a no-no because it will stress them out.
