man city tour games

Premier League powerhouse Manchester City is set to play a series of preseason friendlies in the United States this summer. The club’s upcoming tour of the States will be organized in partnership with FC Series.

The organization was previously established as the Florida Cup, an annual soccer exhibition competition held each summer. However, the tournament has since expanded beyond the state of Florida, hence the name change.

While City will feature at the competition, an announcement regarding specific details on the matches will be revealed in March. This includes exact opponents, dates, and ticket details.

“This marks the fourth consecutive year the [FC Series] event will host top European teams in Central Florida and throughout the United States during the preseason window,” read an official statement by the organizers.

“This year’s summer tour announcement builds on the success of last month’s Winter 2024 FC Series, which marked the former Florida Cup’s return to the January window and South American preseason competition.”

City to face familiar foes in Ohio this summer

One particular matchup that is currently penciled in is a fixture between City and Chelsea . Although a date is not yet known, the two English giants will face off in Columbus, Ohio this summer. The reigning European champions will then play other teams in Florida, North Carolina, and the New York City area as well.

A recent report suggested that City is now the second-most popular soccer team in the United States. Figures in the study were determined based on viewership on television and streaming here Stateside. The only team to top the Premier League champs is Mexico’s Club America .

Manchester City’s preliminary schedule of summer U.S. friendlies so far (dates are TBD):

Chelsea vs. Manchester City – Columbus, Ohio Manchester City vs. European opponent – Camping World Stadium, Orlando, Florida Manchester City vs. European opponent – University of North Carolina’s Kenan Stadium, Chapel Hill, North Carolina Manchester City vs. European opponent – New York City area

Several top Premier League sides set to play summer friendlies in the US

City and Chelsea are, however, not the only Premier League teams set to take over America. Fellow powerhouses Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United have all announced summer U.S. tours recently. Full schedules of the friendlies involving English teams have not been revealed just yet. However, the Gunners are already set to face both United and Liverpool in late July.

Aston Villa is also joining the fun here Stateside as well. The Villans announced on Friday that they will play Columbus Crew in Ohio on July 27th. Although the Major League Soccer side revealed that the match is set to be part of the Leagues Cup Showcase, Villa could also very well feature in the FC Series.

Premier League clubs storming the States in the summer is hardly a surprise. After all, this could be their final chance to play in America before the 2026 World Cup. The summer schedule for 2025 will be filled with the expanded FIFA Club World Cup, which will also be played in the U.S.

Secondly, the Premier League is experiencing a significant rise in popularity here in the States. As a result, clubs see playing friendlies across the pond as an ideal opportunity to continue growing their fanbases.

Here’s the latest, most updated list of summer soccer friendlies .

Manchester City announce summer tour in U.S.

man city tour games

Manchester City will return to the United States this summer, the Premier League leaders announced on Friday.

New York will host one of City's preseason matches, with further cities and opponents to be announced.

City will play in the International Champions Cup for a second year running after also participating in the U.S. edition of the competition last season.

Among the games they played a year go was the first ever Manchester derby outside England against United in Houston. City also faced Real Madrid in Los Angeles and Tottenham Hotspur in Nashville.

Benjamin Mendy, who is currently recovering from a cruciate knee ligament injury, was in New York to make the announcement.

Speaking at a fan event of the top of the Rockefeller Center, Mendy said: "It's been amazing to come to New York City to announce the tour and give some local fans a real surprise!

"The soccer fans in the United States are so passionate about the game and it's always a pleasure to visit here.

"When I go back to Manchester and tell the players about my trip I know they will be really excited to come here in the summer. We can't wait to play in front of our U.S. fans again."

Earlier, City boss Pep Guardiola said midfielder Jack Harrison, newly signed from NYCFC, was likely to be given a chance during the tour after completing his loan at Middlesbrough.

"He's going on loan and we are going to see at the end of the season," Guardiola said. "In preseason a lot of players will be here with those at the World Cup, and I don't know who will be available.

"After that we'll decide -- I have a little idea who will join us here and in the States, but we'll see."

The fixtures that will decide the Premier League title race after Man City's statement win

T he Premier League title race continues to thrill after some massive results this week, with a defeat for Liverpool seemingly all but extinguishing their hopes.

Jurgen Klopp ’s side were soundly beaten 2-0 by Merseyside rivals Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday night, with the departing manager saying afterwards that his side are now relying on crises at Arsenal and Manchester City.

That does not look likely, though, with the Gunners bouncing back from their Champions League exit against Bayern Munich to record back-to-back wins against Wolves and Chelsea – hammering the latter 5-0 .

City, meanwhile, travelled to the south coast to face Brighton on Thursday evening and were three goals up after barely half-an-hour, seeing out the contest 4-0 to lay down a statement victory.

Although Pep Guardiola’s side are still in second place, they have a game in hand on Arsenal – and a kinder fixture list – with some huge matches on the horizon that could decide the destination of the title…

Current position: 1st | Points: 77 | Goal difference: +56

Arsenal's remaining matches

April 28 – Tottenham (away) – PL

May 4 – Bournemouth (home) – PL

May 12 – Manchester United (away) – PL

May 19 – Everton (home) – PL

It briefly looked as though Arsenal’s season might be on the verge of implosion after back-to-back losses against Aston Villa and Bayern Munich, but six points in the space of four days has changed the mood dramatically.

From being entirely written off in the title race by many, the Gunners will be top until Sunday at least when they travel up Seven Sisters Road to take on north London rivals Tottenham, who will be itching to do what Everton did to Liverpool on Wednesday night.

There are still other challenges awaiting Arsenal on the home straight, with Bournemouth’s high-pressing outfit certainly capable of springing an upset, while an away trip to Old Trafford to face a Manchester United side in need of points represents a huge test despite how leaky Erik ten Hag’s side have been defensively.

Biggest game remaining: The north London derby

Undoubtedly the most eye-catching game left for Arsenal is a trip to face north London rivals Tottenham on Sunday. Last season’s 2-0 win for the Gunners was their only victory in their last nine Premier League visits to N17, while Spurs have a strong record against the top six this season. They have also had two weeks’ rest before the game.

What the pundits are saying:

‘There just seems to be an air of confidence, steeliness, I think there’s been a learning from last year. Mikel Arteta’s composure in the week before this, where they lost against Aston Villa and they lost against Bayern Munich going out of Champions League.

‘You wouldn’t be up in arms if the wheels had fallen off, you would kind of expect that, but the way he’s gained composure himself, but also his team on the pitch, has been something for me, a new-found respect for him at this stage.

‘Yes, they’ve still got a lot of work to do, and they still have to get over the line and win the league, but just even that little area, I think, is a big shift from last season.’ — Rio Ferdinand on TNT Sports

MANCHESTER CITY

Current position: 2nd | Points: 76 | Goal difference: +48

Man City's remaining matches

April 28 – Nottingham Forest (away) – PL

May 4 – Wolves (home) – PL

May 11 – Fulham (away) – PL

May 14 – Tottenham (away) – PL

May 19 – West Ham (home) – PL

After falling four points and two games behind Arsenal due to their FA Cup participation, City needed to lay down a marker and did exactly that with a dominant performance away to Brighton – a fixture which, on paper at least, looked like it would be a bigger test.

Guardiola’s side now face three bottom-half clubs in a row with only Sunday’s opponents Nottingham Forest having something to fight for. With no European football to contend with, it is hard to look past City even without the injured Erling Haaland.

Wolves have caused the top sides plenty of problems this season but are still missing a number of important players and actually have the sixth-highest Expected Goals conceded in the division. Fulham are one place below them while West Ham rank third (second away from home) and City will surely have too much firepower.

Biggest game remaining: Tottenham away

For all three sides, fifth-placed Tottenham are probably the most challenging team they have left to face. That is particularly true of City, with Spurs something of a bogey team. They may have won in north London in the FA Cup earlier this year, but Guardiola’s side had never previously even scored a goal at the stadium. Then again, how motivated will Tottenham be to aid Arsenal’s title bid?

‘If you are there, five games to go, out of the Champions League, they will know how to rest and this game against Nottingham Forest, I will not say that it will be the same as tonight, but this team know how to deal with it.

‘That’s why they are contenders. The [Opta supercomputer probability of 71%] doesn’t mean much, but the history and the past of what they’ve done over the last 10 years is the reason why they will deal with it. Because they know how to do this. Champions know.’ — Gael Clichy on Sky Sports

Current position: 3rd | Points: 74 | Goal difference: +41

Liverpool's remaining matches

April 27 – West Ham (away) – PL

May 5 – Tottenham (home) – PL

May 13 – Aston Villa (away) – PL

May 19 – Wolves (home) – PL

Many pundits felt Liverpool actually had the easiest run-in of the three challengers but defeats against Crystal Palace and Everton – 14th and 16th in the table respectively – has severely damaged their title hopes and even got Jurgen Klopp looking over his shoulder.

Suddenly the Merseysiders are talking about consolidating their position in the top four despite being 14 points ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham, though there is a fear their season could fizzle out with some testing matches ahead.

The visit of Spurs at the start of next month has now become a must-win game, while an away trip to face fourth-placed Aston Villa a week later is even more difficult. If Wolves get their key players fit enough for the season finale, they too could prove to be a very challenging opponent – particularly when you factor in their strong record against the big six.

Biggest game remaining: West Ham away

Facing a team that lost 5-2 last time out might not seem like a huge test but make no mistake, if Liverpool do not win in east London their title hopes are firmly over. The early kick-off time – something Virgil van Dijk complained about straight after the Everton defeat – will be a factor, especially with West Ham enjoying a week off, and the Hammers are always capable of an upset. But Liverpool must find a way to bounce back.

‘This is the end of the title run for Liverpool. They just have to make sure they finish the season strongly. They had enough chances in the game but at the moment they are not clinical enough in both boxes.

‘I don’t think you can get too angry with the team or Jurgen Klopp. It’s been a great ride and a great journey. But tonight is Everton’s night and you have to take it on the chin.’ — Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports

Manchester City vs. Brighton prediction, odds, time: 2024 Premier League picks, April 25 bets by soccer expert

Martin green, who is 21-14 with his premier league picks this year, has locked in his best bets for thursday's manchester city vs. brighton match.

kevin-de-bruyne-usatsi-man-city.jpg

Reigning champion Manchester City face another obstacle in their quest to win the English Premier League title when they square off against Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday at American Express Stadium. With Arsenal's 5-0 victory over Chelsea on Tuesday and Liverpool's 2-0 defeat at Everton on Wednesday, Man City enter Thursday's match in third place in the Premier League table, four points behind the Gunners and one behind the Reds. However, the Citizens have played two fewer games than both teams. City remain favored to win their fourth straight league title and sixth in the last seven years.

Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET. Man City are the -320 favorites in the latest Brighton vs. Manchester City odds, with the Seagulls the +700 underdogs. A draw is priced at +490, and the over/under for total goals scored is 3.5. Before you lock in your Manchester City vs. Brighton picks or Premier League predictions,  you need to see what proven SportsLine soccer expert Martin Green has to say .

After working in the sports betting industry for several years, Green became a professional sports writer and handicapper and has covered the game worldwide. Last year he was profitable in multiple areas on his  soccer picks , including Euro qualifying (+6.30 units), the EFL Cup (+4.47), the FA Cup (+3.07), and the Champions League (+3.05) among others. Green also has been solid with his Premier League picks this year, going 21-14 (+6.92). Now, Green has broken down Brighton vs. Manchester City from every angle and revealed his picks and Premier League predictions. You can head to SportsLine now to see Green's picks . Here are the betting lines and trends for Manchester City vs. Brighton:

  • Brighton vs. Manchester City money line: Man City -320, Brighton +700, Draw +490
  • Brighton vs. Manchester City over/under: 3.5 goals
  • Brighton vs. Manchester City spread: Manchester City -1.5 (-110), Brighton +1.5 (-110)
  • BHA: João Pedro leads the team in goals (eight).
  • MCI: Erling Haaland is tied for the EPL lead in goals (20).
  • Brighton vs. Manchester City picks:  See picks at SportsLine

Why you should back Manchester City

Pep Guardiola's men have proven they can succeed without Erling Haaland in the lineup. Haaland, arguably the world's best goal scorer, has been ruled out of Thursday's game with a muscle issue. But since Haaland joined Manchester City in 2022, the club has a better record without Haaland (10 wins, one draw, one loss) than with him (40 wins, 11 draws and seven losses).

In addition, the Citizens have been on a roll in league play. Man City are unbeaten in their last 17 Premier League matches (13 wins and four draws). That's the club's longest unbeaten stretch since its 19-game run in the 2020-21 season.  See which team to pick here .

Why you should back Brighton

The Seagulls will face a City team that is in the midst of a demanding stretch of games. On April 17, Manchester City played Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw in the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal and failed to advance on penalties, losing 4-3. Three days later, the Citizens eked out a 1-0 win over Chelsea in an FA Cup semifinal. And then just two days after the game against Brighton, City will head to Nottingham Forest for another crucial EPL match.

In addition, the Seagulls have a capable goal scorer in João Pedro. The 22-year-old from Brazil leads the team and is tied for 27th in the league in goals with eight. Earlier this season in Europa League group stage play, he was the leading scorer with six goals in six games.  See which team to pick here .

Premier League champions Man City continue quest for historic four top-flight titles in a row at Nottingham Forest

Man City have closed the gap to leaders Arsenal to one point with a game in hand; this Sunday the Gunners go to Tottenham before City play away at Nottingham Forest - watch both games live on Sky Sports Premier League

Manchester City took another big step towards becoming the first side to win four top-flight titles in a row with victory at Brighton on Thursday.

Before the game, captain Kyle Walker urged his team-mates that they could "all make history" during the run-in and their 4-0 victory took them to within one point of Premier League leaders Arsenal, with a game in hand.

On Sunday, the title race could take another twist, with the Gunners going to arch-rivals Tottenham at 2pm before City face Nottingham Forest away at 4.30pm - with both games live on Sky Sports.

There are few records left for Pep Guardiola and his City side to break after their treble-winning campaign last time out, but there is one that has remained untouched since the inception of the English top flight in 1888 and that is the quest for four consecutive championships.

Intriguingly, it is a feat that has been regularly achieved on the continent, with Guardiola himself having done it twice while in charge at both Barcelona (2008-11) and Bayern Munich (2013-16), while Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have also done it of late.

In contrast, though, only six English sides have ever won three successive league titles and none have gone on to make it four in a row - so, who are those teams and what went wrong in their bids to make it four on the trot?

Brighton and Hove Albion

Brighton and Hove Albion Manchester City

Huddersfield town (1923-26).

Herbert Chapman's Huddersfield were the first team to win three consecutive top-flight titles, with Chapman overseeing the first two of those in 1923-24 and 1924-25.

In fact, the Terriers' first league win was achieved in dramatic fashion as they edged out Cardiff City by a goal difference of just 0.024 after the two teams finished level on 57 points.

Cecil Potter - who replaced the Arsenal-bound Chapman - was at the helm as Huddersfield made it three in a row in 1926 and they came close to a fourth successive league win the following campaign, only to finish as runners-up to Newcastle United.

Arsenal (1932-35)

Herbert Chapman

Chapman was lured from Huddersfield to Arsenal in 1925, initially winning the league championship in 1930-31 and then again two years later as they edged out Aston Villa by four points.

However, Chapman died from pneumonia midway through the following campaign with the Gunners on course to retain their title, which caretaker boss Joe Shaw oversaw, before George Allison completed the hat-trick of leagues as Ted Drake netted a club-record 42 goals in 41 league games in 1934-35.

Allison, though, was unable to win his second title in a row, and a fourth straight league championship for the north London club, the next season as they finished down in sixth place in the table, a whopping 26 points behind champions Sunderland.

Liverpool (1981-84)

Between 1979 and this title-winning side from 1984, Liverpool lifted the First Division title five times across six years, as well as two European Cups

1981-82 saw three points for a win introduced for the first time in English football as Bob Paisley's Reds saw off the challenge from Ipswich Town, before repeating the feat the following season as they cruised to back-to-back titles, finishing 11 points clear of surprise runners-up Watford.

Paisley retired in the summer of 1983 having won an incredible 21 trophies in only nine years at the helm, with right-hand man Joe Fagan taking his place in the Anfield dugout.

And the new man continued where his predecessor had left off by making it a 'three-peat' that campaign, albeit by just three points from Southampton as Fagan became the first English manager to win three trophies in his debut season in charge after also claiming the league and European Cups.

Fagan was unable, though, to continue that winning run in 1984-85 as Liverpool finished a distant second behind city rivals Everton, with the manager retiring that summer after the Heysel disaster.

Manchester United (1998-2001)

Dwight Yorke scored a hat-trick as Man Utd thrashed Arsenal at Old Trafford on February 25, 2001

Remarkably, it took United until the early 2000s to get on the 'three-peat' trail as Sir Alex Ferguson's side first edged out Arsenal by a point in a thrilling fight for the title in 1998-99, before the Red Devils again beat the Gunners to successive leagues by 18 points and 10 points respectively in the following two seasons.

That 2000-01 championship win meant Ferguson had become the first manager to win three straight top-flight titles, with the Scot then announcing his intention to call it quits at the end of the next campaign.

However, in February 2002 Fergie made a dramatic U-turn as Arsenal ultimately ended United's hopes of claiming an historic fourth consecutive league crown, with the Red Devils going on to finish third in the table.

Manchester United (2006-09)

United are the only team to have won three leagues in a row on two separate occasions as Fergie's side repeated the feat six years later.

The Red Devils edged out Jose Mourinho's Chelsea by six points in 2006-07 and Avram Grant's Blues by only two points the following campaign, before completing the 'three-peat' by seeing off Liverpool's challenge in 2008-09 by just four points to match the Reds' record haul of 18 top-flight titles.

But again, a fourth straight league crown proved beyond United's grasp as they and Chelsea once resumed battle for the title, with Carlo Ancelotti's men emerging victorious, this time by just a solitary point!

Continental drift

In contrast, though, winning four or more leagues in a row is a much more common occurrence in Europe's top-five leagues, where Bayern Munich claimed the Bundesliga in every season from 2012-13 until this campaign, when they were dethroned by Bayer Leverkusen .

In Serie A, Juventus have also achieved the feat on multiple occasions, between 1930 and 1935 and then again from 2011-2020, as have both Torino (1945-49) and Inter Milan (2005-2010).

Four teams have pulled it off in France, firstly Saint-Etienne from 1966 and 1970, followed by Marseille between 1988 and 1992 and Lyon , who won seven straight Ligue 1 titles (2001-2008).

Barcelona manager Johan Cruyff (1992)

More recently, though, big-spending PSG have done it on two separate occasions, firstly from 2012 to 2016 and then again between 2017 and 2020.

And finally, LaLiga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona have also both managed to achieve it, with Los Blancos doing it on two different occasions, between 1960-1965 and then again from 1985-1990 by their infamous ' La Quinta del Buitre ' side.

And Johan Cruyff's Barcelona dream team, which included Gary Lineker, claimed five successive Spanish top-flight titles between 1990 and 94.

Goodbye for now!

Manchester City have booked their place in a second consecutive FA Cup final after finding a late winner against Chelsea.

It was another devastating day at Wembley for Mauricio Pochettino as his side missed numerous opportunities to knock out the defending champions.

But City march on in their quest for an eighth FA Cup and will face either Coventry City or Manchester United in the final.

Thanks for joining us for this match, and do stay with Al Jazeera sport for more coverage over the weekend.

Who will face City in the final?

It’s a busy weekend at Wembley, with tomorrow’s second FA Cup semifinal taking place at 14:30 GMT.

Championship side Coventry City will face Manchester United, with both teams searching for a place in the final against Manchester City.

If the Red Devils triumph, they will set up a repeat of last year’s FA Cup final and another mouthwatering Manchester derby.

But Coventry have pulled off some shocks to reach this stage and will be hoping to upset the odds in London.

‘It is unacceptable’

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has been speaking after the match, and he has some gripes.

His main point of frustration is the scheduling of this game on a Saturday, just days after a midweek Champions League fixture.

“It is unacceptable,” he says.

“It is impossible for the health of the players; it’s not normal. Because I won I have the courage to tell you, but this is unacceptable – there were 120 minutes [in midweek].

“We want to play football. We love to play football. But it is too much.”

‘It was a frustrating week for us’

The match winner, Bernardo Silva, has been speaking to the media on the pitch:

“I’m very happy after. It was a very frustrating week for all of us, for me personally. But the good thing if you play at Man City you play every three days, you have a chance for revenge and to put things right. Today, we tried to do that although we were very tired.”

He also discussed his winning goal:

“It’s the usual Kevin De Bruyne movement inbetween the centre back and the fullback. Jeremy Doku found the right timing to put the ball there. Then you try to put numbers in the box to increase the chances of scoring. I was lucky the ball dropped to me.”

City march on

It was no means vintage Manchester City, but the defending champions have done enough to reach yet another final.

Bernardo Silva’s late goal proved the difference on the day, as City bounced back from midweek European disappointment.

As for Chelsea  it’s another miserable day at Wembley. They’ve lost twice at the national stadium this season, missing countless opportunities.

It’s a trophy-less season for the West London side.

Pep Guardiola and Stefan Ortega celebrate.

Manchester City are in the FA Cup final!

Full time: Manchester City 1-0 Chelsea

Mudryk wastes a free kick

Walker goes shoulder to shoulder with Mudryk and the City captain concedes a free kick on the left-hand side.

The Ukrainian gets up to take the free kick and it’s a woeful effort, with the ball evading everybody.

90+8 mins: Manchester City 1-0 Chelsea

Time running out for Chelsea

De Bruyne is awarded player of the match, and he’s heading straight to the corner flag after picking up the ball from Doku following a City counter.

Chelsea haven’t created a chance in added time. Can they find one more opportunity?

90+7 mins: Manchester City 1-0 Chelsea

City showing good game management

City are playing down the clock, keeping the ball and taking their time at any set pieces.

Four minutes to go…

90+4 mins: Manchester City 1-0 Chelsea

Pochettino shows the strain of management

Chilwell, Murdyk and Sterling have all looked lively since coming on. But is it too late for Chelsea?

Some poor play at the back from the Londoners allows De Bruyne to gather the ball in the middle of the pitch. He strikes an effort at goal, but it deflects away off a Chelsea defender.

Pochettino looks crestfallen on the touchline. He knows how many good chances his side have had today.

90+3 mins: Manchester City 1-0 Chelsea

Eight minutes added on

A huge roar from the Chelsea end. Eight minutes to go.

90 mins: Manchester City 1-0 Chelsea

Changes for both sides

City haven’t looked themselves all day, but that was typical Bernardo Silva, showing tremendous composure to finish.

Both sides make some changes.

Oscar Bobb is on for City, replacing Alvarez.

For Cheslea, Ben Chilwell comes on for Cucurella, with Raheem Sterling replacing Fernandez.

89 mins: Manchester City 1-0 Chelsea

GOAL! Bernardo Silva breaks the deadlock!

Less than 10 minutes to go and Silva has scored!

Doku makes a run down the left and finds De Bruyne at the byline. The Belgian plays a low cross across the face of goal, with the ball deflecting off the foot of Petrovic.

It falls to Silva who shows terrific composure to side-foot the ball home.

84 mins: Manchester City 1-0 Chelsea

Manchester City's Bernardo Silva celebrates scoring a goal.

Foden in the book

City enjoy a long period of possession on the edge of the Chelsea box.

Alvarez eventually takes the plunge and strikes an effort at goal, but his shot is high and wide of the Chelsea goal.

From the resulting goal kick, Foden picks up a yellow card for complaining about time wasting.

83 mins: Manchester City 0-0 Chelsea

Two changes for Chelsea

Off: Noni Madueke, Malo Gusto

On: Mykhailo Mudryk, Axel Disasi

80 mins: Manchester City 0-0 Chelsea

Ortega down hurt

It’s a corner for Chelsea after Akanji blocks a cross from Gusto.

Ortega becomes the latest player down injured, suffering from a calf issue. He finally gets back to his feet and the corner can be taken.

Gallagher swings in the ball from the right, but Dias gets a head to it and clears the danger.

78 mins: Manchester City 0-0 Chelsea

Semifinal remains deadlocked

Gusto is back on the pitch and play continues.

There are just over 15 minutes of normal time remaining. It’s hard to call which way this one will go. Both sides are creating chances, but the deadlock is proving difficult to break.

Gusto down injured

Doku has looked lively since coming on, causing Chelsea problems down the left. The winger wins a corner after another surging run.

Gusto drops to the ground before the set piece is taken, with the Chelsea medical staff running on to assist him.

He slowly gets back to his feet and should be able to continue.

72 mins: Manchester City 0-0 Chelsea

Chances at either end

Palmer does brilliantly to break away in midfield, finding Caicedo on the right.

The Chelsea man is out on his own, but can’t get the ball out of his feet when it matters. His effort on goal is tame and wide.

The London side keep finding themselves in excellent positions, but their players haven’t got the confidence to finish.

At the other end, Doku does well to stay on his feet in the box and get a shot away, which is well saved by Petrovic.

De Bruyne then fires wide from just inside the penalty area. Chances are coming at either end.

70 mins: Manchester City 0-0 Chelsea

Doku on for Grealish

Grealish can’t continue and limps off to be replaced by Doku.

The England midfielder is still furious and has plenty to say to the fourth official as he leaves the field.

65 mins: Manchester City 0-0 Chelsea

Grealish caught by Caicedo

Grealish is down injured after being caught on his left knee by Caicedo. It was a nasty-looking challenge from the Chelsea man, who clumsily followed through after clearing the ball.

Grealish is furious, asking the referee to watch a replay.

Jeremy Doku is warming up on the touchline.

  • 22h ago The teams
  • 22h ago Preamble

Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne inspire a Manchester City masterclass, as they trounce Brighton 4-0 at the Amex.

David Hytner was at the Amex tonight. Here’s his report. Thanks for reading this MBM. Nighty night.

Roberto De Zerbi’s turn. “City are one of the best teams in the world … they played very well … I’m sorry for the first two goals … they were unlucky … if you make mistakes you can concede … you have to analyse the whole season, to see how many points we made playing the ball [out from the back].”

Pep also insists that Liverpool are still in the title race. “What happened to Liverpool, two games against Crystal Palace and Everton, can happen to us. Can happen to Arsenal. Nobody is safe from that.”

Pep Guardiola speaks to Sky. “The statement is three points … we know what we have to do to fight to be champion … we have been here in the past but that doesn’t mean it is going to happen … we have to do the things to make it happen … in the first half we found the right rhythm … we punished them … Brighton away is really tough, all Premier League teams know it … it’s difficult to catch [Arsenal’s goal difference] … the margin is so big … they score a lot of goals … one game at a time … we recover, then Nottingham Forest.”

Kevin De Bruyne talks to Sky Sports. “It was a good game … we played really well in the first half … I don’t know about a statement … the only thing we can do is try to perform as well as we did today … the only way I could reach [for the first goal] was jumping for the ball … I’ll take it but it’s obviously not something I’m really good at!”

Phil Foden’s there too. “Brighton are a very challenging team … they play beautiful football … we grew into the game … the first half was frightening, the way we attacked … I see myself centrally … I’ve moved more inside this year … it’s where I want to be … I feel like I can score a lot of goals and create things.”

An unprecedented fourth English title in a row is very much on for Manchester City . Five more wins, and there’s nothing Arsenal or Liverpool can do to stop them. Their run-in: Nottingham Forest (a), Wolverhampton Wanderers (h), Fulham (a), Tottenham Hotspur (a), West Ham United (h). With Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden in this mood, it’s difficult to see anyone stopping them, even if Spurs are a bit of a bogey team.

Arsenal made a title statement on Tuesday night against Chelsea; City have responded with one of their own at the Amex. A couple of controversial decisions went their way – the award of the free kick that led to the second goal after Phil Foden slipped, the decision to wave play on after Josko Gvardiol clattered into the back of Joao Pedro in the penalty box – but City were still fully deserving of victory. Phil Foden notched another two goals, Julian Alvarez ended a barren scoring run, and Kevin De Bruyne planted a world-class diving header into the top right for the pick of the bunch. The champions are beginning to purr on the run-in, as they always do. Arsenal will look over their shoulders with a shudder tonight.

FULL TIME: Brighton & Hove Albion 0-4 Manchester City

The champions close the gap on leaders Arsenal in style!

90 min +4: Alvarez slips Doku into the box down the left. Doku opens his body and aims a sidefoot towards the far corner. Steele kicks it clear. Five would have been harsh on Brighton.

90 min +3: Barco continues to show promise down the left. His cross, intended for O’Mahony in the middle, forces Ake to head behind for a corner. The set piece is cleared. It’s been an eventful evening for the 19-year-old Argentinian.

90 min +1: Ake fouls Joao Pedro near the centre circle. A free kick. The referee’s whistle is met with a barrage of ironic cheering. Brighton fans definitely of the opinion that referee Jarred Gillett has done a number on them tonight.

90 min: There will be five added minutes.

89 min: Igor leaves a frustrated one on the back of Doku. Earlier in the game, that might have warranted a booking. Of course, earlier in the game, Igor may not have been so frustrated as to make the challenge.

88 min: A lot of Brighton fans have decided to beat the rush at the final whistle. Blue Moon the very dominant note at the Amex now.

87 min: City pop it around the back, waiting for the clock to do its thing.

85 min: Joao Pedro slips Igor into space down the left and keeps going into the box. Igor cuts back. Joao Pedro slaps a shot wide left from six yards. That was a lovely move with a horrible end. “Four-nil, well that looks like City have probably won this game,” writes Charles Antaki. “But they have five to go, and if Arsenal can somehow arrange that those are against Brazil 1970, Holland 1988, Barcelona 1992 and 2010 and a random Stoke City team to make it sporting, then nothing is over yet.”

83 min: Igor and Barco combine to dispossess Doku, the latter whipping in low for Adingra, who can’t control on the penalty spot. De Zerbi applauds young Barco, who made a mistake in the first half but has kept going gamely ever since, showing impressively once or twice in attack.

81 min: City are easing their way towards the finishing post. A sense that if both teams could declare, they would.

79 min: … and eventually Doku replaces Rodri. “It is disheartening when a team with an enormous talent advantage also gets all the calls,” writes Joe Pearson. “That non-penalty was ridiculous, but also seemingly inevitable. Sigh.”

João Pedro of Brighton and Hove Albion goes down after a challenge with Josko Gvardiol

78 min: City set about making a triple change. Lewis replaces Silva, Gomez comes on for Walker, who takes an age to saunter across to give Ake the captain’s armband …

76 min: Baleba is booked for a cynical tug on Nunes’s shirt, the City midfielder having spun him elegantly.

75 min: Welbeck cuts in from the right and larrups a wild shot over the bar. That’s his last contribution to this evening’s match, as he makes way for 19-year-old debutant striker Mark O’Mahony.

73 min: Grealish and Nunes come on for Foden and De Bruyne.

72 min: VAR checks, and confirms the onfield decision. Gvardiol definitely made contact with a barge in the back. Joao Pedro then went over theatrically, it’s true, but there was a subsequent nick on the ankle as well. It was surely a penalty. On the touchline, Roberto De Zerbi reacts with class: a wry raised eyebrow. The Brighton fans are a bit more blunt, accusing the officials of onanism.

Joao Pedro is barged over by Josko Gvardiol in the box. No penalty, say the officials.

70 min: Offiah chariots his way down the right, a scintillating run that beats three men. Then Joao Pedro takes over, bursting into the box before being clipped from behind by Gvardiol. It’s surely a penalty, but the referee shows no interest in awarding one.

68 min: A rare Rodri misplaced pass. Adingra has Joao Pedro to his left, with City light at the back, but the ball across is no good and Joao Pedro falls over.

66 min: Foden is barged over by Van Hecke, who accidentally clips the stricken City man on the back of the head as he falls. Van Hecke offers an apologetic hand, though Foden’s not happy about it. We play on.

64 min: There are now only eight goals between Manchester City and leaders Arsenal. You never know, it could make a difference come the end of the season. To this end, Welbeck slips Adingra into the box down the right channel. Gvardiol comes across to block the shot and the ball pings back off the Brighton man and out for a goal kick.

GOAL! Brighton 0-4 Manchester City (Alvarez 62)

Ederson launches it long. Walker tears free down the inside-right channel, unnoticed by Brighton. He chests the ball into the box and chops past the back-tracking Barco. He wants to shoot but miscontrols. Steele attempts to snaffle, but Walker slides in, the ball breaking left to Alvarez, who slots into the bottom left of the unguarded net.

Julian Alvarez slots home number four for City.

60 min: Alvarez looks for the top-right corner from the far-left edge of the Brighton box. So close to a spectacular goal but the ball clears the bar by inches.

59 min: Foden slips Alvarez into space down the middle. His low drive is straight at Steele, who makes a meal of claiming but does so after a fashion and before anybody can latch onto the loose ball.

57 min: Adingra crosses from the byline to the right of goal. The ball hits Ake on the arm, which was raised but still next to his torso. Brighton claim for a penalty, but again the referee isn’t interested. Nothing comes of the resulting corner.

56 min: Igor comes on at left-back for … not the 19-year-old debutant Barco, but Moder. Barco is moved up the field.

55 min: City with more of that sterile domination. Speaking of which, Richard Hirst replies to one of our half-time correspondents: “I for one, Mr Tumble. Why do people take against both success and professionalism? I’m not a Man City supporter, but I’m happy to say that Guardiola is a genius who has raised the bar to a level that some clearly find uncomfortable.”

54 min: Barco chops inside from the left and feeds Joao Pedro, who bustles his way into the box and a shooting position. Ederson is quickly off his line to parry the snapshot away from danger.

Joao Pedro attempts to escape the clutches of Rodri.

52 min: Adingra fouls Alvarez out on the left. Foden swings a vicious free kick into the mixer. Joao Pedro toe-pokes behind for a corner with Rodri lurking. Rodri gets his head on the end of the resulting corner, but not to any great effect. City are in the mood for more, perhaps sensing an opportunity to chip away at Arsenal’s superior goal difference.

51 min: Moder’s clearance pings off the nearby Rodri and briefly threatens to loop hysterically over Steele. Thankfully for Brighton initial worries are unfounded: it goes nowhere near the goal and out for a corner.

49 min: Rodri definitely tugged on Gross’s arm, albeit softly, before the midfielder went over. On Sky, co-commentator Alan Smith thinks it should have been a penalty. The Brighton fans are certainly incensed, the non-decision coming in the wake of the Foden slip and free-kick award that led to the second goal.

47 min: VAR has a very quick check, and apparently the tug on Gross’s arm “did not meet the threshold”. It would have been hellishly soft, but one you can file under Seen Them Given. Nobody knows anything.

46 min: Adingra is immediately into the action, romping after a long pass down the right. But the flag pops up for offside. Brighton come again, Gross dribbling into the box from the left before Rordi grabs his right arm. Gross goes over. He wants a penalty. The referee’s not interested.

Brighton get the second half underway, having made two changes: Offiah and Adingra replace Veltman and the invisible Lallana. “I’ve never lived in Liverpool, but I spent a few years in Finsbury Park,” begins Julian Menz. “The mood must be as dark as the name suggests down the Blackstock Rd and Arsenal Tavern. (Recently renamed. Why? I’ll never know.) City are doing what they do, and will make sure Arsenal and Liverpool are punished for their lapses.”

Half-time postbag. “Brighton must now find their inner Coventry” – Dave Smith

“I do wonder how many people will miss Guardiola outside of the club when he goes? I don’t think many. I think quite a lot will be glad to see the back of him. Will be interesting to see which league he’ll sterilise when he does” – Mr Tumble

“Talking of gentle warmdowns, I’m on my third can of cheap lager already after drinking a shed load of super-strength ales, and the odd whisky, celebrating Dundee United’s imminent return to the big league last Saturday. Try doing that, Russ Cook” – Simon McMahon

HALF TIME: Brighton & Hove Albion 0-3 Manchester City

City are cruising their way into second spot. Here’s how it stands at the moment.

45 min +3: Foden barrels clear down the left and looks for Alvarez in the middle. If the pass makes it, Alvarez is slotting home. But Moder slides in to hook behind for a corner. Then the flag goes up for offside. But had the goal been scored, VAR might have overturned that offside decision, because it looked like Foden had started his run in his own half. It was close. Anyway, the point is moot.

45 min +1: Walker runs at full pelt down the right but the full debutant Barco does well to hold him up and force him to turn tail. That should give the 19-year-old succour after a tough first half.

45 min: De Bruyne dribbles hard down the inside-right channel and into the box. A snapshot is blocked and deflected wide right. Foden takes. Alvarez attempts a curler towards the top right from the edge of the box but that’s blocked too. There will be three additional minutes of this first half.

43 min: The City fans apart, there’s not much of an atmosphere, with Brighton’s goose already cooked. A few ironic cheers and whistles as Pep fails to control a ball dropping into his technical area.

41 min: Veltman goes long. Ederson races out of his box and blooters the ball straight back. We heart the 1980s.

39 min: Dunk attempts to spring Welbeck clear down the inside-right channel with a forensic pass from deep. It’s a decent move, but the striker takes off a fraction too soon. Up pops the flag. “So Scott, was it more Houchen or van Persie?” writes Gary Naylor, who may have a point about the latter.

Man City vs Man United FA Cup final time confirmed

FILE - The FA Cup trophy is seen before the English FA Cup final soccer match between Manchester City and Manchester United at Wembley Stadium in London, Saturday, June 3, 2023. FA Cup replays have for so long been a big money-maker for lower-division teams in English soccer but they are being scrapped from next season. Organizers are citing “expanded UEFA competitions” as a reason for the move. (AP Photo/Jon Super, File)

The FA Cup final between Manchester City and Manchester United will kick off at the traditional time of 3 p.m. (1400 GMT) on May 25, the Football Association said Tuesday.

In a repeat of last year’s final, holder City will play rival United at Wembley Stadium.

The FA said the kickoff time had been agreed with both clubs, the local authority, safety advisory group and broadcasters.

It is the second straight year that the final will start at 3 p.m. In recent years it has had an early evening time slot.

City beat Chelsea 1-0 on Saturday to secure its place in the final, while United needed penalties to overcome second-tier Coventry on Sunday after blowing a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 through extra time.

As well as the Cup, the winner will receive around $2.5 million.

2024 Premier League Brighton vs. Manchester City odds, picks, predictions: Best bets for Thursday's game from proven soccer expert

Hero Image

The air-tight, three-team race for the Premier League title will resume on Thursday when reigning champion Manchester City hit the road to face Brighton & Hove Albion at American Express Stadium in Falmer. City exited the weekend in third place in the Premier League table with 73 points, one point behind top-of-the-table Arsenal and second-place Liverpool. However the Citizens have played one fewer game than both the Gunners and Reds.

Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET. Manchester City are the -320 favorites (risk $320 to win $100) in the latest Brighton vs. Manchester City odds, with the Seagulls the +700 underdogs. A draw is priced at +490, and the over/under for total goals scored is 3.5. ( For more soccer coverage, click here .) Before you lock in your Manchester City vs. Brighton picks or Premier League predictions, you need to see what proven soccer expert Martin Green has to say.

After working in the sports betting industry for several years, Green became a professional sports writer and handicapper and has covered the game worldwide. Last year he was profitable in multiple areas on his soccer picks , including Euro qualifying (+6.30 units), the EFL Cup (+4.47), the FA Cup (+3.07) and the Champions League (+3.05) among others. Green also has been solid with his Premier League picks this year, going 21-14 (+6.92).

Green knows that City's Phil Foden is a world class midfielder who is in the midst of arguably the best season of his career. The 23-year-old has scored 14 goals in the Premier League this season, which ranks second on the team and is three more than his previous career high. He also has seven assists, which is a career-high and is tied for second on the team.

Green also has taken into account that the Seagulls will face a City team that is in the midst of a demanding stretch of games. On April 17, City played Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw in the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal and failed to advance, losing 4-3 in penalties. Three days later, the Citizens eked out a 1-0 win over Chelsea in a FA Cup semifinal. And then just two days after the game against Brighton, City will head to Nottingham to face Forest in another crucial EPL match. Now, Green has taken a close look at this Premier League match from all sides. He is leaning Under on the goal total and has locked in two confident best bets, including one that would pay plus-money, and a full breakdown of this Premier League match . You ABSOLUTELY need to see his picks and analysis before making any selections of your own.
