What travelers say about their Mediterranean trips

Travel tips for tours to the mediterranean.

Visit a local vineyard.  Many of the world’s best wines are produced in the Mediterranean. Travelers on our Mediterranean tours will visit vineyards and wineries in Italy and Greece to learn how grapes are grown, harvested, and transformed into world-class wines.

Explore ancient ruins.  The Mediterranean is home to some of the world’s most important ancient ruins, from the Parthenon in Athens to the Colosseum in Rome. On our Mediterranean trips, travelers can get a chance to see what life was like as early civilizations developed.

See why traveler Donna says ancient ruins are among her top 10 reasons to visit the Mediterranean  →

Go island-hopping.  The Mediterranean is studded with postcard-worthy islands, and no two are exactly alike. Our Mediterranean tours offer the chance to hop from Ischia to Capri in Italy. In Greece, travelers can hopscotch between Santorini, Mykonos, Naxos, and other dreamy island gems.

The Mediterranean is a year-round destination, but here are a few things to keep in mind when considering going on a trip to the Mediterranean.

Peak season in the Mediterranean falls during June, July, and August, when temperatures are at their warmest and most beach-friendly. This is also peak travel season in the region, so travelers on Mediterranean vacations during this time are likely to encounter larger crowds.

In shoulder season, which falls during April and May, temperatures are pleasant and crowds are significantly thinner, making it the best time to visit the Mediterranean for travelers who prefer calm and quiet.

In fall and winter, crowds all but disappear, as do peak-season prices on everything from food to souvenirs. Travelers who visit the Mediterranean in winter can enjoy holiday festivals, food, music, and decorations throughout the region.

The Mediterranean is home to more cultural, architectural, and natural treasures than we can count. Here are a few of the highlights you can experience on our Mediterranean tours.

  • The Parthenon.  Perched atop the Acropolis in Athens, this iconic marble temple was built between 447 and 432 B.C., during the height of the ancient Greek Empire. Travelers who visit Greece on trips like our  Italy & Greece tour  can see it up close during a guided tour.
  • The Greek Islands.  With their laid-back beaches, charming villages, friendly locals, and distinctive architecture, it’s no wonder the Greek Islands are a popular vacation spot for travelers from around the world. Want to visit several on a single trip? Our Mediterranean vacation packages make it easy.
  • Cinque Terre.  These five, traffic-free fishing villages in the Italian region of Liguria perch along a six-mile stretch of the Italian Riviera and are linked together by scenic footpaths. Each village is packed with pastel-hued homes and offers travelers who book Mediterranean tour packages a distinctly different, but decidedly relaxed, vibe.
  • Dubrovnik, Croatia.  Overlooking the azure Adriatic Sea, Dubrovnik is one of the world’s most magnificent walled cities. Visitors who travel to the Mediterranean in the summertime can enjoy its sparkling beaches, as well as boat rides along its dramatic coast.
  • Venice.  Arguably one of the most romantic cities in the world, Venice is built across 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea and is known for its network of canals. Travelers who book Mediterranean travel packages that include Venice can explore the city’s canals on a gondola ride, and visit other major landmarks, such as St. Mark’s Square.

  • Comfortable walking shoes.  No matter which of our Mediterranean tours you choose, be sure to bring sturdy shoes with a good grip. They’ll keep your feet and ankles happy while walking on cobblestones, uneven streets, hiking paths, and other surfaces.
  • A day bag.  Keep your water, wallet, sunglasses, extra layers, and other essentials handy in a small backpack, crossbody, or tote.
  • A shawl, wrap, or cardigan.  A light layer will add a touch of extra warmth during outdoor dinners by the water, and protect your shoulders from the sun during the daytime.
  • A good camera.  And an extra memory card or two to capture the Mediterranean’s natural, architectural, and cultural treasures.
  • Sun protection.  Think brimmed hats, sunglasses, and SPF for any time spent outside, especially during walking tours on sunny days.
  • A swimsuit and sandals.   Because when you spot the crystal-clear waters that lap at the Greek Islands’ beaches, you won’t be able to resist getting in.
  • Light, loose clothing.  If you plan to visit the Mediterranean in the summertime, when temperatures can be hot, pack lightweight, loose clothing that will help keep you comfortable and cool.
  • Fresh seafood.  Plucked straight from the Mediterranean Sea, local seafood, like anchovies, mussels, and other shellfish, is as fresh as it gets, making it a must-try when visiting the Mediterranean. Try it prepared simply (a squeeze of lemon and little else) or cooked into a filling pasta dish.
  • Kopanisti.  Thick, creamy, and with a peppery flavor, this spreadable sheep’s-milk cheese is often served with bread as a starter on the Greek island of Mykonos.
  • All the fresh fruit.  Thanks to the Mediterranean’s mild climate, a variety of fruits grow in the region are far superior in quality to those we often find in grocery stores. Stop at a local market to taste whatever’s in season. If you like olives, be sure to get your fill when you visit the Mediterranean.
  • Pesto.  The Ligurian Coast is famous for this basil-and-oil delicacy, making it a must-try when you visit Italy’s Cinque Terre.

Although the Mediterranean sees plenty of sunshine and warm weather in the spring, summer, and fall, winters here can be on the cool side. Be sure to check weather forecasts before you travel to the Mediterranean so you can pack accordingly.

Solo Traveling in the Mediterranean: A Beginner’s Guide

in Love with the Med

If you’re yearning for an adventure and a new experience, solo traveling in the Mediterranean is an experience not to be missed. With its stunning beaches, historic cities, delicious cuisine, and warm climate, the Mediterranean is the perfect destination for those looking for a mix of excitement and relaxation. However, before you pack your bags and set off on your journey, there are a few things you should consider.

Safety First

Your safety is the top priority when you’re traveling alone, and the Mediterranean is no exception. While the region is generally safe, it’s essential to take extra precautions. Before embarking on your trip, do your research and learn about your destination’s customs and laws. Keeping copies of your passport and travel insurance with you at all times is crucial, and staying aware of your surroundings is equally important. By being proactive and taking these steps, you can ensure a safe and enjoyable solo travel experience in the Mediterranean.

Choose the Right Destination

The Mediterranean is a sprawling region, offering numerous countries and cities to discover. For novice solo travelers, it’s crucial to pick a destination that is secure, friendly, and straightforward to navigate. Luckily, there are several ideal choices that meet these criteria. The Greek Islands , for example, offer a mix of history, culture, and stunning beaches. The islands of Santorini and Mykonos are especially popular among tourists, with their picturesque white-washed buildings and azure waters. Croatia’s coastline is equally stunning, with its rugged cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and charming towns. The city of Dubrovnik , known as the “Pearl of the Adriatic,” is a must-see destination for its stunning architecture and rich history. Spain’s Mediterranean coast boasts a plethora of charming cities, each with its unique character. Barcelona, with its quirky architecture and vibrant nightlife, is a top choice for many travelers. Finally, France’s southern coast, known as the French Riviera, offers a luxurious experience with its glamorous towns, designer boutiques, and Michelin-starred restaurants. Cannes , Nice , and Saint-Tropez are among the most popular destinations in the region.

Solo Traveler

When embarking on a solo adventure, it’s advisable to plan ahead to ensure a fulfilling experience. Despite the freedom that solo travel provides to explore at your own pace, careful planning is necessary to maximize your trip’s potential. You can ease the burden of logistical arrangements by reserving your accommodations and transportation in advance and devising a comprehensive itinerary that incorporates all the attractions you want to visit. This approach allows you to immerse yourself in the destination without worrying about details, giving you more time and energy to savor the journey and create indelible memories.

Stay Connected

While solo travel can be a transformative and fulfilling experience, it can also be a lonely one at times. Fortunately, staying connected with loved ones back home and utilizing the power of social media can help alleviate some of that isolation. Joining solo travel groups on social media platforms like Facebook or Instagram is an excellent way to get first-hand information about the destinations you wish to visit. Not only can you connect with other solo travelers and share experiences, but you can also get tips on where to stay, what to see, and what to avoid. By tapping into the knowledge and experiences of others, you can make your solo travel adventure more rewarding and enjoyable.

Embrace the Culture

Solo traveling in the Mediterranean offers a truly enriching experience by allowing you to fully embrace and immerse yourself in new cultures. By being adventurous and embracing local customs, traditions, and flavors, you’ll create a deeper connection with the places you visit. If you’re lucky enough to receive an invitation from a local family to join in a celebration, don’t pass it up, as this happens frequently. From savoring authentic cuisine to learning a few phrases in the local language, or participating in cultural celebrations, these experiences will stay with you long after you’ve returned home, offering you a unique perspective on the world.

Final Thoughts

Embarking on a solo travel adventure in the Mediterranean is an experience that can stay with you forever. With a bit of planning, a sense of adventure, and an open mind, you can explore all the beauty and charm this region has to offer. If you’re ready for a trip of a lifetime, don’t hesitate to book that ticket, pack your bags, and set off on your adventure. The Mediterranean is eagerly awaiting your arrival!

Athens, Greece

Welcome to the beautiful Capital city of Greece; the birthplace of philosophy and democracy. Explore the ancient monuments, world class museums, chic cafés, unique shops and charming taverns of the city center. Admire the 5th century BC landmarks, including the Acropolis, and take in the stunning, panoramic views from Acropolis Hill. Discover the Parthenon Temple, just another one of the many ancient buildings we will find here. Observe the sculptures, jewelry and vases, preserved from Ancient Greece, at the Acropolis Museum or the National Archaeological Museum. One day in this city is not enough to see all it has to offer!

Port Said (Cairo), Egypt ~ Classic Cairo

From Port Said, we travel to Cairo, the largest city in Africa, and explore the top sights from a luxury, air-conditioned coach. We will journey towards the last remaining Wonder of the Ancient World, the mighty Pyramid of Giza. We will have plenty of free time, from the base of Chephren’s pyramid, to wander around the ancient marvels by foot or by camel, if we are feeling a bit more adventurous. As we continue through the valley, we come across the supreme Sphinx, guarding the land. After a luxurious buffet lunch, at a 5-star hotel, we will continue our adventure through the heart of Cairo. Stroll through bustling Tahrir (Liberty) Square before we head to the National Archaeological Museum to become better acquainted with the ancient history of Egypt. From the collection of King Tutankhamen, and other intriguing antiquities, we will discover inspiring history spanning over 50 centuries! Admire a Papyrus Institute, and take some time for souvenir hunting, before venturing back to the ship.

Check out the 1869 octagonal lighthouse, the most iconic landmark of the city of Port Said. Walk along the Corniche, which will reveal the city’s maritime prowess and power. The charming faded 19th century colonial consulates and mansion homes that line the entry in to the Suez Canal are sure to capture our attention. Learn about the history of the canal at the National Military Museum, or wander into town. The historic center is full of locals shopping the bustling bazaar, while the sandy beach beckons with deckchairs and umbrellas.

Ashdod, Israel – Jerusalem & Bethlehem Full Day

The gateway to Jaffa, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Bethlehem is located along the sun-soaked coastline of the Mediterranean. Here, we will find quite the melting pot of cultural offerings and religious pilgrimage all found within a short trip. Head North, to Tel Aviv, to enjoy a blossoming culinary scene and buzzing nightlife in the city that never sleeps or, try the more relaxing, ancient port city of Jaffa, charming with its old world atmosphere, courtyards, narrow passageways and ancient buildings. For a more religious experience travel back in time to the walled city of Jerusalem, one of the oldest cities in the world, and discover churches, mosques and synagogues. Admire landmarks such as the Mount of Olives, Wailing Wall, Temple Mount and the Church of the Holy Sepelchre, a true testament to Jerusalem’s diversity. Visit the birthplace of Jesus, just across the border, in Bethlehem, and seek out the Church of Nativity, the famed street art or explore the fascinating Old City.

Limassol, Cyprus

Limassol is a modern marina filled with rows of fishing boats and yachts. The never-ending seafront promenade boasts busy bars, restaurants and an optimum setting for watching the sunset. Old Town Limassol offers the jewel of the city; the medieval castle from where everything begins and ends. Legend has it that this was the site of the royal wedding between Richard the Lionheart and Berengaria of Navarre. Admire the medieval architecture and visit the Medieval Museum before following the cobbled streets that lead to the old fishing harbor and the market, where locals gather. Just outside of the city, find the forested Troodos Mountains or the Chantara Waterfalls. Visit Polemidia National Park and stroll the nature trails or just relax and enjoy the scenery at one of the picturesque picnic points. The Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates also offers a beautiful seafront setting and stunning ancient monuments.

Rhodes, Greece

Approaching Rhodes by sea is an experience all its own. Choose from three different excursions, or spend the day with free time to explore the historical city at your own pace. On the Acropolis of Lindos tour, for example, you will discover centuries of culture, and intriguing civilizations, on your bus tour through Lindos and the extraordinary structure of the Acropolis of Lindos. As you walk along Knight’s Street, in the heart of Rhodes, you will be following the footsteps of historical heroes. The seven lodges of the Order, displayed along the cobblestone street, still bear their original coats of arm. This is where Rhodes’ history was written for more than two centuries. You will get a glimpse of the fascinating era of the knights at the Grand Master’s Palace, which sits pretty, at the top of Knights Street. It lives up to its name with its stunning and detailed Gothic architecture, and strength, displayed throughout its court structures.

Kusadasi, Turkey ~ Ancient Ephesus Through the Ages – Hellinistic and Roman

This famous beach resort town is known for its colorful Bazaar (market) and beautiful marina. Kusadasi boasts a seafront promenade, and harbor, lined with hotels and restaurants. It is also known for its close proximity to the ancient (3,000 years old) city of Ephesus, once home to the Temple of Artemis, one of the original Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The location was chosen by the oracle of Delphi, according to legend, and shaped the history of Greek, Turkish and Christian civilizations. Today, our bus tour brings us on a journey through the golden ages that represent a pivotal center of commerce and spirituality. The presence of major Christian figures (the apostles Paul and John and the Virgin Mary) is felt within the city walls. Ephesus is currently one of the largest Roman archaeological sites in the Mediterranean and a site of pilgrimage. We will explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site and have the opportunity to discover the Ephesus Agora, Odeon, the Houses of the Patricians, the beautiful Temple of Hadrian and the astonishing Library of Celsus. Before we head back to the ship, take the opportunity to shop for local merchandise, like souvenirs, leather goods or even carpets. Bargaining is half the fun!

Do I need to be Vaccinated against Covid-19?

Proof of vaccination and proof of negative COVID-19 test was a condition for all cruises leaving and returning to Greece until this sanction was lifted on October 10, 2022. However, Celestyal Cruises is maintaining the requirements until cruises departing after March 2, 2023.

Therefore, all members must present proof of vaccination and either a rapid antigen test taken up to 48 hours before embarkation or a PCR test up to 72 hours before embarkation. Failure to present a negative test result accordingly will result in denied boarding of the vessel.

Other requirements, such as negative COVID-19 tests during the cruise, may be required.  Your knowledgeable team at Singles Travel International will keep you up to date with plenty of time to prepare.

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) recommends updating all routine booster shots for travel almost anywhere. Please schedule a physical check-up, before your trip, to discuss the type of trip in which you are participating with your physician.

You and your physician may access much more, very detailed health information for travelers (including tips on staying healthy while traveling) on the CDC website . Click their “Traveler’s Health” link or call toll-free 24-hours at 1-800-CDC-INFO (800-232-4636)

How many nights is the trip?

The trip begins with two nights in a hotel in Athens, Greece, on November 24, 2022, and ends at the Port of Lavrion on December 3, 2022. Therefore the trip is 9 nights/10 days.

Is a deposit required and when is the final payment due?

A deposit is due at time of reservation and final payment is due on July 6, 2022.

We’ve made paying your balance online as easy as 1-2-3! You’ll be able to see your balance directly within your Singles Travel International profile. Under the shopping cart icon, choose “Reservations and Payments” from the drop down to view your dashboard. To see how to use this NEW reservation and payment feature, watch this quick  VIDEO . You may also call us at 877-765-6874 ext. 4 and provide us with your preferred payment information.

If you make a reservation after July 6, 2022, full payment will be automatically charged at time of reservation and penalties will apply.

Are there penalties if I cancel my trip?

We’ve taken out all the risk so you don’t have to worry about losing your vacation dollars.

After deposit and at any time of cancellation prior to July 6, 2022, your deposit of $600 is refundable minus a $75 future trip credit with Singles Travel International vacation.

All cancellations must be made in writing to Singles Travel International and are subject to per-person penalties as follows unless the cruise is cancelled by the cruise line.*

Note: If you were transferred from the 2021 trip as a credit, cancellation at any time will result in a 100% penalty.

– After July 6, 2022, any cancellations or “no-shows” – 100% penalty.

Note that if you elect to take a roommate and he/she cancels after our cut off date, we will do everything to find a new match. However, if no match is found, the difference in cost for a single cabin/room is the responsibility of the guest who cancels. No refund will be given to the guest who cancels, regardless of cruise or tour company policy as stated above. Singles Travel International is not responsible for costs related to cancellations after our cut-off date.

Allow 60 days for a refund as suggested by Celestyal. In the event that you made a deposit more than 60 days from time of cancellation, a company check will be issued in lieu of a credit refund.

No refund on any unused portions of the trip. After domestic airline tickets are issued, airline cancellation penalties are per the airline’s policy- usually no refund, but may be changeable with a fee and the difference of the new ticket cost. Travel insurance is recommended; carefully consider the purchasing of this important part of your travel.

*When the cruise is cancelled by the cruise line, you will generally be offered a full refund or the option to move your reservation to another date without penalty. All changes are subject to current terms and conditions at the time of cancellation. Your team at Singles Travel International will advocate for you in all cases.

What are my responsibilities for safe travel for myself and fellow travelers during COVID-19?

Although Singles Travel International is committed to keep our members informed regarding the current status of our partner-vendor policies, you are ultimately responsible for your health and well-being when making travel decisions. We strongly encourage all our members to check the latest travel recommendations by the US State Department , CDC , World Health Organization (WHO) and air carriers to review the latest information for travel risks so they make informed decision about their travel safety.

For those who make the personal decision to travel and in order to assure a mutually respectful environment surrounding Covid-19 safety, each member will need to sign a Fit & Willing to Travel Commitment . Please familiarize yourself with our other new protocols by CLICKING HERE .

Your trip chat is accessible from the trip page. Ask your Singles Travel International Reservation Guide for assistance.

How should I schedule my flights?

If you plan to arrange your own flights, make sure to arrive to arrive at the Athens Airport (ATH) by 4:00 p.m. on November 24, 2022 , in order to participate in our singles-only meet-and-greet and optional dinner. Your departure flight should depart after 1:00 p.m. on December 3, 2022, from the Athens Airport (ATH).

Are there any other expenses that are not included?

Our cruise does not include airfare, transfers in Athens, Greece and extra hotel nights after the cruise. You are responsible for alcoholic beverages and meals off the Crystal, incidentals such as laundry and phone calls and gratuities to STI staff ($15 per day).

Medical insurance is mandatory for all guests traveling aboard Celestyal cruise ships. A quote will be sent to you after you make your reservation.

Tell me more about the Celestyal Crystal

Our home for the week is the Celestyal Crystal, which is a Greek crewed vessel with a 4.0 rating with Cruise Critic. Read more about the ship

What is the currency and exchange situation in the countries we'll visit?

The currency used in Greece and Cyprus is the Euro, the Turkish Lira in Turkey, the Egyptian Pound in Egypt and the Israeli New Shekel in Israel. For up to date exchange rates, visit www.xe.com .

Your credit card will be accepted to settle your bill onboard the Crystal as well as in major shops and restaurants ashore. All onboard purchases are billed with a guest check and added to your personal shipboard account. At the end of the cruise, you will receive a total bill, which may be paid with cash or charged to a credit card. If you are sharing with another guest, no worries. You will each receive a separate statement which may be reviewed at any time on your interactive TV in the cabin.

Note that Celestyal is a Greek company and, therefore, to avoid international fees imposed on your credit car, bring a card that does not charge international exchange fees.

How much cash should I bring?

We generally recommend $300-$500 to members based on their lifestyles. Most charges such as cocktails, excursions and and tips for the crew are able to be placed on your shipboard account and charged to your credit card. Allow for shopping in port and any off-ship dining.

Will you match me with a roommate?

Absolutely. our site is so popular that we guarantee to find a roommate for you or the single cabin is on us in order to take advantage of our offer, you must be paid in full by july 6, 2022 . guarantees are based on the lowest priced category. upgrades are charged the full single rate less the lowest share credit if no equal match is found..

Of course, single cabins are available at an additional rate assessed by the cruise line. Even after the cut-off date, we get so many calls that finding a roommate is easy. So please let us know if you are interested when making your booking.

Our guarantee is based on the lowest, inside cabin share rate. If you opt for a higher category and we are unable to match in that category, you are responsible for the difference to move a member into your cabin to make a match. You may also opt to take your own cabin at that time for the single cabin rate. Assessments are made at final payment date: July 6, 2022

Roommate matches are based on the same sex, general age range and smoking preference whenever possible, but not guaranteed. Singles Travel International reserves the right to make any match up until day of cruising, including roommate changes once onboard for members who select the Share & Save option.

We highly recommend that our guests contact their roommates in advance. Booked members have access to our private online chat. Meet your roommate as well as the other members on your vacation. Singles Travel International makes every effort to accommodate requests, but does not guarantee the satisfaction or success of a roommate match. It’s the responsibility of the guest to contact his/her roommate and ask the appropriate questions.

Optional pre and post cruise/tour stays are not eligible for the roommate match guarantee. Chances are excellent that we’ll find you a match, but if no match is found by 30 days prior to departure, member pays the single supplement.

Read more about Roommate Matching on our Frequently Asked Questions found at the Help Center.

May I use my frequent flyer miles?

Please contact your preferred carrier directly to make your reservation. If Singles Travel International issues a promotional economy fare, granting of frequent flyer credit is entirely at the airline’s discretion. If the flights are eligible, to ensure you earn frequent flyer credit from the airline, give your frequent flyer account number when you check in for your flights. In addition, save your boarding passes and the passenger receipt from your airline ticket. You may need to submit these to the airline (not to Singles Travel International) to claim any credit allowed.

Is it safe to drink the water?

It is best to drink bottled water. You will find that both still and sparkling water are available aboard our cruise and you may carry off to drink during your excursions. Water is purified in the hotels and restaurants, and it is ok to drink beverages with ice wherever we take you on the tour.  More may be purchased as you go and a good way to get small change for bathrooms use and shopping.

The public drinking water is safe to drink, although it can be slightly brackish in some locales near the sea. For that reason, many people prefer the bottled water available at restaurants, hotels, cafes, food stores, and kiosks.

It is also not necessary to use bottled water to brush your teeth, as the tap water has also been purified.

I've never taken a singles tour. Will I be alone?

Of course not. You will be pleased to find out that nearly 90% of our guests on every cruise sign up and have never met anyone before joining the group. In 28 years, we have perfected the singles cruise experience. It is paramount that our guests meet each other right away and have opportunities to mingle every day.

From the moment you arrive at the hotel, our Singles Travel International Concierge is waiting to meet you at our Hospitality Desk or Welcome Event.

What are the ages of the other guests? What is the ratio of men to women?

Our “Baby Boomer” vacations cater to singles in their 50s and 60s but you will often meet singles ranging anywhere from 45-75. We generally have a ratio of 60/40, women to men. As a travel club, matchmaking is not our focus. Ages listed on our page are not restricted. They are simply used as a guideline. We offer an opportunity for single travelers to see the world in the company of other singles and do not guarantee ratios or ages.

We recommend that you meet the members of the Singles Travel International Community online where you may view and interact with members via “Who’s Going” on every trip page. This is the best way to find out exactly who will be on your vacation.

We also invite you to join our 50+ singles community when you are not on the road, before and after your vacation @ www.SingleLife.Today .  Membership is free and when you upgrade to Premium, you’ll save $1000s of dollars on Your Own Space™.

What will the weather be like in November?

Fall is a great time of year to visit the Eastern Mediterranean. During this month, the temperatures are pleasantly mild, as is the average sea temperature. Expect temperatures in the low to mid 60s, for most of the ports, with Egypt being in the mid 70s. A light jacket may be necessary for cooler evenings.

What is the baggage allowance?

There is no baggage limit onboard ship.

Currently, most airlines will allow you to check 1 bag, weighing up to 50 pounds as well as a carry-on and a personal item such as a purse or briefcase for free. Please check with your air carrier for up-to-the-minute regulations and fees for checked baggage.

Do you have any suggestions on what to wear, to bring?

Please bring: A diplomatic attitude!

Essential Items: We highly recommend that you bring the following items.

– Costumes for 2 Theme Nights!  Greek God & Goddess and Dress in White Night – A good, comfortable pair of broken-in walking shoes – A pair of shoes for restaurants (loafers, sandals, etc) – Slacks or jeans, shorts and tops and keep dressing in layers in mind for cooler November weather – Ladies will want to bring a nicer warm wrap, and gentlemen a nicer jacket (or long sleeve shirt), for evening wear aboard the ship – Jacket for evenings in port – Collapsible umbrella (which can double as a sunshade parasol) and/or lightweight rain gear – Sunglasses, sun block, sun hat or visor – Toiletries: all your daily essentials – Prescription medications: sufficient supply for the entire trip plus legible written prescription in case of loss. Keep medications in their original, labeled container. Always pack your medications in your carry-on bag! – Eyeglasses, contacts, contact lens solution. You may want to bring along a written prescription for your eyewear in case of loss. – Over the counter medications: cold remedy, aspirin/pain reliever, antacid/stomach upset remedy, Band-Aids, money or other anti-bacterial medication – Travel alarm clock with illuminated face, especially for guests in an inside cabin – Small, Swiss Army type utility knife. Remember to pack this in your checked luggage! – Travel journal/notepad and reading material – Update your phone contacts with correct addresses for sending postcards. – Small, basic sewing kit with a few extra buttons. Remember to pack scissors in your checked bag! – Photography Equipment: Bring a sufficient supply batteries, memory cards and chargers. – Power strip to charge more than one item at a time. – Power outlets on the ship and in our hotels in Athens are European, so bring an adapter AND converter.

What about Traveler's Insurance?

TRAVEL INSURANCE FOR THIS TRIP IS MANDATORY PER CELESTYAL CRUISE LINE : At the time of publication, Celestyal was mandating that each passenger have travel insurance. As soon as you make a reservation with us, you’ll receive a quote from Travel Guard regarding travel insurance.

How will my family reach me?

Your “Final Vacation Details & Meetup Information” including transportation and how to meet up with the group will be available on the YOUR TRAVEL DOCUMENTS button on the left navigation bar on the trip site 21 days prior to trip start date.

Our office is open Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. In an emergency after hours, please contact Tammy Weiler at 815-715-6998.

You may be able to use your own phone plan if you add an international calling package before you depart. Both AT&T and Verizon offer a flat-fee $10/day international plans that you can use exactly as if you were home! Well worth it!

There are direct dial phones in each cabin aboard the ship, but charges are generally $10 per minute. Internet cafes are available in some ports, not all.

What are the customs policies?

All countries you will visit have laws against the purchase and export of certain items, including antiquities, national cultural property and certain animal products, especially endangered species (ivory, rhino horn, tortoise shell, coral, feathers, etc.). Additionally, the United States has laws prohibiting the import of certain items, which include many of the same things. You face having your purchase confiscated and/or heavy fines for exporting or importing prohibited items.

On return to the U.S., your baggage is subject to search by U.S. Customs. Currently, you are permitted to bring back $800 of goods duty free. Persons aged 21 or over may also bring in one liter of liquor and one carton of cigarettes. If you plan to purchase a lot of souvenirs or expensive items, it is important to retain all purchase receipts. However, please note that U.S. Customs may not accept a receipt as true cost if it seems unusually low for the estimated value of the item. You may access the regulations and restrictions governing US Customs on their official website, click here to learn more.

What Our Members Are Saying

I had a wonderful time sailing on the recent Singles Sailing Adventure! It was awesome to hear Amazing Grace played every day when the sails were hoisted as we set sail for another port destination. The food was excellent. There was plenty of opportunity for scuba, snorkel, or just touring the islands. Thank you so much for the great adventure.

Fotolia_58389435_Subscription_Monthly_M_04

It was amazing! I had a little of everything one could ever want on my first vacation ever! The greatest people were in our group, and the Avalon Night in Miami before meeting on the cruise really helped to make everyone comfortable with each other; as if we've known each other for a long time. What I felt made STI stand out from the rest is that it's about people - not about getting mates, but developing friendships, memories and real foundations, nothing superficial. AWWW GREAT!!! I will be going again with you all - Hugs, and again, thank you so much for all you did to get us together and made it a blast to remember.

WHEN TO VISIT THE MEDITERRANEAN

See what our travelers have to say.

"Thank you again for the high class service from Blue Parallel. You and your team were excellent. The trip was phenomenal and each one of our guides were exceptional! The hotels and restaurants were also first class. I know this was done last minute just think if we really planned! I have been asked for my itinerary by 10 different people... I will refer Blue Parallel!"

Irwin Simon, Chairman & CEO at Tilray Brands

“We are now back home after a wonderful trip to Morocco. This may have been our best trip yet with Blue Parallel. Everything ran like a clock. The food was great, the hotels were great and the country was great. We all feel our main guide, Adib, was exceptionally good. He was very well informed and went above and beyond to make us all happy during the trip. His driver was also outstanding and made us all feel safe on the treacherous roads of Morocco. It was truly one of the best vacations we have ever had.”

Len Berlik, Executive VP for Uniqema, ICI

"I must reiterate how extremely pleased I am with the diligent services and attention to detail that the entire Blue Parallel team have provided for this grand project --- the Ecuador trip was our first opportunity to work together "in the field" and it was an unqualified success!"

Bobby Haas, Chairman of Haas Wheat & Partners

"It has been a wonderful trip. The helicopter was thrilling and we loved seeing so much of Sicily in such an easy way. Elisa was a lovely guide and Mario was very knowledgeable. The star of the trip was Emmanuelle in Salina — we had a wonderful time hiking with him. He was a delightful young man and a very knowledgeable, helpful guide. Just terrific. Thank you for all your hard work!"

Kevin Poorman, CEO of PSP Capital Partners and Pritzker Realty Group

"As usual, your planning, staff, and execution was super. Everyone with Blue Parallel has been very helpful and knowledgeable throughout our stay in Brazil. They anticipate what needs to be done and make necessary changes with apparent ease. Altogether an excellent trip, as we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly."

Bruce Atwater, Former Chairman of General Mills Inc.

"On behalf of all of us who went on this tour, I wanted to thank you for organizing a wonderful trip to Andalucia and for doing it so efficiently and graciously. We also want to extend our compliments to the team; Fabricio was an extraordinary guide and host, and was supported by a great group of drivers and local hosts. We couldn't have been more pleased."

Michael Kowalski, Chairman of Tiffany & Co.

Buildings on high cliffs in Dubrovnik

Iconic departure ports

The Mediterranean means “in the midst of lands” and it holds true to its name, with the coastline winding around parts of Europe, Africa and even Asia. We know you can’t wait to explore these fascinating regions, so our Mediterranean tours packages always include time at the most iconic departure ports like Athens, Rome, Venice, Palermo, Istanbul and Dubrovnik. Why not see the best of the Mediterranean cities and the sea in one unforgettable trip?

Gondols flowing through the canals of Venice

If that sounds like your perfect holiday, our best Mediterranean cruises will make your travel dreams come true. From the scenic canals of Venice to the turquoise Dalmatian Coast and the shimmering Aegean Sea, you’ll cruise the Mediterranean on premium ships with heartfelt service and local experts all the way.

Incredible shore excursions

If you can tear your eyes away from the coastline, you’ll discover an incredible world on land with our shore excursions in the Mediterranean. See the Italian masterpieces in Florence and the Vatican, or explore the ancient ruins of Olympia and Delphi. Witness the flamenco dance in Barcelona or marvel at the Whirling Dervishes in Konya. Enjoy local wine tastings in Nemea or Tuscany, or discover the aromatic spices of Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar.

All you need to know about Mediterranean Cruises & Vacations Packages

What is the best time of year to cruise the mediterranean.

You can head off on a Mediterranean cruise anytime from April to November. Spring brings gorgeous blooms and mild weather, autumn brings fresh produce and harvest festivals, while summer is peak season and for good reason. From June to August, the Mediterranean shines with endless sun and long days to soak up the stunning beaches.

What is the best part of a cruise ship to stay on?

It all depends on how you like to travel. If you’re prone to seasickness, go for a cabin on the lowest level in the center of the ship for the least swaying. If you want the best view, go for a room with a window on the higher levels of the ship. The higher decks are also closer to the pools, whereas if you're looking to be closer to entertainment areas, go for a room in the middle of the ship.

Where can I travel in the Mediterranean?

Dreaming of a Mediterranean vacation? You’ll be spoiled for choice when picking a destination. From the sunny shores of Italy, Spain and Turkey, to Greece and Croatia's gorgeous islands, and the lesser-known gems like Montenegro, Albania and Slovenia, there are endless places to travel in the Mediterranean. Take your pick!

Where are the best beaches in the Mediterranean?

You’ll discover some of the world’s most spectacular beaches in the Mediterranean, with soft white sands, brilliant turquoise water, lush greenery and soaring cliffs. For the most showstopping beaches of them all, head to the likes of Italy, Greece, Turkey, Spain, Croatia and Montenegro. You’re sure to find your new favorite beach here.

Iberian Explorer (13 Days)

I really loved our tour guide Ana Rita Lima. She helped us through a couple rough patches and I appreciate that. Very energetic and delightful!! I loved every bit of the tour except the hotel quality on the first night of the tour. It needed a vending machine that worked and more opportunity to get snacks upon arrival. It was just very basic. Also the hotel in ( I can't remember which city) we didn't have air conditioning. Our tour guide told us of where to be cautious (pick pockets) and some things we should be aware of. I appreciate that they stopped regularly for food and bathrooms breaks. Our driver, Rui, ( proved to have great skill, navigating in traffic, fog, rain and parking!! Overall, a great tour, with important history and valuable information!! With the exception of two poor quality hotels it was a memory that will last a life time. By the way, the Best Western in Barcelona is much better than the one we stayed in on the tour.

Fabulous affordable trip around Turkey with Gadventures. The guide was knowledgeable, friendly, efficient and patient. The trip was busy but I would not change anything. Group meals are optional and usually not included but always great restaurants and local specialties were available. The home visit and overnight homestay were delightful. The hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia should not be missed. The boat trip and day on the Turkish riviera were fabulous. This was our first Gadventures trip but definitely not our last. The hotels are comfortable but not luxurious. Locations were always perfect! The 15 seater bus was not luxurious but perfect for the trip. Group size of 15 is great and instantly made 13 new friends.

Tour from Athens to Dubrovnik or Split: 7 Balkan countries in 14 days

We had a fabulous trip with ChooseBalkans and would highly recommend them for your next trip to the region. And, we highly recommend you visit Albania: lots of fresh and delicious food, beautiful places to visit, and ancient and contemporary history to learn about. Sirma has been responsive and proactively communicative the entire time we worked with them. They put together a wonderful, affordable, and personalized tour for us on quite short notice (because of our schedule) and found us a top-notch tour guide, Gerion. They combined several of their pre-packaged tours based on our requests, and organized a 10-day trip from Tirana to Athens that included 6 UNESCO sites, three countries, three opportunities to hike, time to explore towns and cities, recommendations of where to eat (we are vegetarians, and yes, there was plenty for us to eat in the Balkans!), and more. ChooseBalkans and Gerion arranged the travel, tour, and hotel logistics and regularly asked if there was anything else we needed. The name of the company is our final comment - Choose Balkans!

If you like to walk and travel from hotel to hotel, this is the trip for you. There was so much walking and if you cannot keep up, this is not the trip for you. It is fast paced and I suggest, try not to go in July or August. It was so hot, and the air conditioners were not working properly. I suggest that the company does not schedule the Vatican Museum, and the Collessum on the same day. We met some very nice people from the states and other countries in our tour. Sabrina and Johnny were the best tour guide and driver. I miss it already!!

Magic Carpet Tour Tour

Magic Carpet Tour

This tour was absolutely breathtaking! It's like being on top of a magic carpet- you'll be swept away. The flow of this itinerary, accomodation and activities was well-planned and amazing. I'm so grateful for our tour guide, Ibrahim, and for our driver, Burack. These two individuals were knowledgeable, accommodating and professional. To be completely honest, they're just a real pleasure to be with throughout the journey. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a unforgettable experience in Turkey. Thank you Fez Travel for having such quality personnel, and for always making sure that the customer is highly satisfied. Traveling with quality personnel like Ibrahim and Burack- you are in good hands.

What people love about Mediterranean Tours for Seniors

Amazing!!! Best thing I’ve ever done
Very good trip. The leader Engin was excellent and was at our Bec and call 24/7. I feel for his sanity he needs some nights off and just tell us about a few restaurants but not take us there - do his own thing. The whole group doesn’t need to always be together. We had one person that struggled to keep up with group and I felt some pressure to wait for her or help her- I don’t think she had much insight into the affect she was having on group. Otherwise was a great and diverse group.

some hotels could have been better

It was jam packed with every place I wanted to go and see. I especially love my photo of us setting out on the night time river cruise in St Petersburg and the Peter...

I really did not buy much and what I did buy was small gifts for others .

Good hotels, some better than others. Interesting itinerary

Too rushed. Optional tour rather too short
