In 2020, AIF quickly pivoted to address the critical situation in India and the United States. In India, AIF leveraged its programs’ infrastructure on health, education, and livelihoods via its wide network to address the needs of the nation with ventilators, PPE, and other interventions in order to save the lives of vulnerable Indians from COVID-19. Read the report here.

In 2021, India recorded the world’s highest daily tally of 314,835 COVID-19 infections on April 22nd, as this second wave sent many more into a fragile health care system, critically short of hospital beds and oxygen. Working with our partners, hospitals, and governments, AIF has launched a three-pronged Phase 2 Emergency Response Strategy to address this crisis. Here is an overview.

The American India Foundation is committed to improving the lives of India’s underprivileged, with a special focus on women, children, and youth. AIF does this through high impact interventions in education, health, and livelihoods, because poverty is multidimensional. AIF’s unique value proposition is its broad engagement between communities, civil society, and expertise, thereby building a lasting bridge between the United States and India. With offices in New York and California, twelve chapters across the U.S., and India operations headquartered in Delhi NCR, AIF has impacted 6.7 million lives across 26 states of India.

India Mission Trip

Aif's india mission trip.

Over the past 15 years, the AIF India Mission Trip has established a benchmark in experiential, impact-focused travel by creating unforgettable and transformative visits to our programs on the ground. Our cohort of socially responsible travelers deeply connect with diverse communities, forge strong relationships, and challenge preconceived notions as they engage with India through the AIF lens. This immersive, authentic experience enables participants to witness firsthand the incredible social change happening in India to create a growing community of globally-minded changemakers connecting the civil societies of the US and India. Along with program visits to remote, rural, tribal, and urban areas of India, these trips also feature high-level networking convenings with policymakers, industry leaders, and social changemakers, creating the space for meaningful discourse. Of course, each Mission Trip is filled with delicious regional Indian cuisines, thoughtfully designed sightseeing opportunities, and a delightful travel experience following strict protocols of safety and hygiene.

Engagement Redefined

Each program visit on the Mission Trip is thoughtfully curated to provide the most engaging, insightful experience of our programs and the opportunity to interact personally with our beneficiaries. This trip is unlike any "regular" trip or vacation to India, as it is designed to immerse the traveler within the social fabric of the country through seamless experiences with people and projects on the ground. That's what brings the "Mission" into this trip. See this short video where our CDO, Kalpana Kanthan, share highlights of our 2024 India Mission Trip to Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Delhi NCR.

These international volunteer opportunities enable you to support locally-driven projects that uplift under-resourced communities around the world.

If you’re looking to join a mission trip in 2024 or 2025, we’ve outlined IVHQ’s most popular types of mission trips and all the information you need to know to find your perfect mission.

What is a mission trip?

A mission trip is an international volunteering opportunity centered around collaborative efforts with local communities to provide essential support where it is most needed. These trips can be either religious or non-religious in nature, aiming to uplift individuals, local communities, and natural environments across the globe. IVHQ offers inclusive volunteer abroad programs that welcome participants of all ages and life stages.

Through IVHQ’s diverse range of mission trips , individuals can make a tangible impact while fostering new friendships, discovering diverse cultures, and broadening their horizons—all while contributing to the well-being of those who require assistance the most.

Why do people go on mission trips?

Mission trips are a popular way to combine your desire to travel and see with world with your motivation to give back and make a difference in the world. While some people see mission trips as an opportunity to put their faith into action, others go on mission trips for a variety of non-religious reasons, including:

To make a difference: Many people go on mission trips make a positive impact in the world through providing support to communities in a range of different ways. This could involve volunteering to teach English , building schools or homes , providing medical care , volunteering with animals or supporting environmental conservation .

To gain a new perspective: Traveling to a new country and immersing yourself in a different culture can be a life-changing and transformative experience. Mission trips allow you to see the world with fresh eyes and gain a better understanding of different cultures and ways of life.

To meet new people: Mission trips offer an opportunity to connect with people from all around the world. International volunteers work together towards a common goal, often forming life-long friendships and connections along the way.

To get out of your comfort zone : Mission trips are an opportunity to discover a new sense of purpose by stepping out of your comfort zone, discovering new countries and cultures, and living like the locals. This can be equally challenging and rewarding! Taking a mission trip is an opportunity to growth as person, discover your strengths and weaknesses and redefine your purpose in life.

While people go on mission trips for a variety of reasons, at the heart of it is a desire to make a positive impact on the world, connect with others and build a better future together.

Quote from IVHQ Volunteer Ruth Cartwright - Childcare in Sri Lanka

I recently returned from a mission trip to Sri Lanka and it was everything I dreamt it would be. I lived with a family in the jungle next to the longest river in the country, volunteering in a disabled childcare center. I was so happy with the project and had a wonderful - and sometimes challenging - experience. I would recommend this mission trip to anyone who wants to travel alone.

How much does it cost to go on a mission trip?

The cost of going on a mission trip varies depending on the destination and duration of the trip. IVHQ makes mission trips accessible to volunteers worldwide through affordable volunteer program fees and flexible durations.

For example, the cost of a 2-week mission trip with IVHQ to Tanzania is US$415, while a 4-week trip to India is US$585. These costs cover accommodation, meals, airport pick-up, and in-country support from IVHQ’s local team.

Additional costs that volunteers need to consider include the IVHQ registration fee , airfares, travel insurance, and any necessary visas or vaccinations. However, IVHQ provides detailed information and support to help volunteers prepare for their mission trip and manage these additional costs.

It’s worth noting that IVHQ also offers a range of fundraising ideas and resources to help volunteers cover the costs of their trip. For example, volunteers can create a fundraising page via IVHQ’s fundraising partner and share it with friends and family to collect donations.

IVHQ’s fees are transparent and inclusive, making it easy for volunteers to plan and budget for their trip without breaking the bank.

Why do a mission trip with IVHQ?

Promoting Safety & Mitigating Risk

FOCUS Missions holds safety for our participants as the primary concern for any mission trip we send. We offer trips to locations once they have been initially researched and vetted with people on the ground, as well as checked and monitored for safety from our security consultant.

Other precautions FOCUS Missions takes include consulting government agencies, such as the U.S. State Department, the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), and the Center for Disease Control regarding traveler health. FOCUS Missions also has a number of resources dedicated to promoting safety and mitigating risk, including training every Mission Director in safety and risk management at our Mission Director Leadership Summit, arranging insurance policies for each trip, and equipping our staff and students with safety guidelines at trip orientation.

FOCUS Missions takes great pride in partnering with local religious orders, apostolates, and organizations in every location we serve. We regularly communicate with our contacts before the mission to plan the trip and assess on-the-ground conditions. We reserve the right to re-route or cancel a trip if there is a confirmed safety concern.

Medical Mission Trips to India

Thank you for your interest in imr’s medical mission trips to india this is a very unique opportunity to work with populations that have little to no access to healthcare and make a huge impact on their lives..

India is the world’s second most populous country and in spite of a well trained and functional health care system, India still faces significant public health issues.  Sanitation, overcrowding, and poverty all contribute to illness, especially among the poor. In 2018, India reported about a 29.9% infant mortality rate. India also still faces several gender health disparities, where women are more vulnerable to different health risks.

Join International Medical Relief (IMR) in providing quality medical care for the communities surrounding Mumbai. The team will care for those with the greatest need for medical attention. Our clinics are nestled among the throwback of centuries old traditions in southern India. Engage with this culture first hand as you provide greatly needed medical care to the densely inhabited communities. Those left out of the medical system will not only get medical attention, but will also be given needed education to help them survive in places where healthcare is difficult to access.

mission trips to india

International Medical Relief began relief efforts in India in 2011 and has since served 16,000 patients with 430 IMR staff and volunteers. IMR continues to provide sustainable health care through education initiatives towards the communities we serve. Some of the educational sessions that were provided include the following: clean water, dehydration/rehydration, malnutrition, family planning, oral health, respiratory diseases, malaria prevention and hygiene/hand washing.

With diligent planning and preparation, IMR is dedicated to ensuring that specific goals are met on our missions, each in correlation to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 3 and 17.

IMR works to elevate vulnerable populations through shoulder-to-shoulder care with our local partners, creating workforce density, and a cadre of future healthcare and public health leaders in association to UNSDG 3: Good Health & Wellbeing.

In correlation with UNSDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, our organization works in collaboration and at the request of local hosts where we are under their direct influence and affluence. IMR never goes into a country without a formal invitation where there is a great community need for medical or dental care, and health education.

The Mission

Close your eyes and picture looking to your left to see towering, snow-capped mountains, and then looking to your right to see lush, green foliage. If you concentrate, can you hear the infectious Hindustani music or taste freshly caught fish? As the seventh-largest and second-most populous country in the World, it is not surprising that India offers a wide variety of sightseeing, topography, and cultural experiences. Shaped by the Himalayan Mountains, Northern Plains, the Indian Desert, Peninsular Plateau, coastal plains, and many islands, India is the land of “Unity in Diversity.” Among the people, diversity in race, religion, and language exists, but their vast differences in culture do not divide them. Mumbai, the capital city of the state of Maharashtra in India and the city you will stay in for this trip, is the most populated city in India so you will interact with folks from many different backgrounds. However, over half of the city practices Hinduism, so you can expect to experience several Hindu traditions, including theatre, festivals, and food.

While visiting, you can tour countless Hindu Temples such as the most famous temple in the city, Mahalakshmi! Your team will also make a point to visit the Muslim quarter to experience the blended culture and purchase fresh produce. Your time in Mumbai will be especially memorable because it will coincide with Holi, a time for Hindus to welcome the spring season and to celebrate love and the triumph of good over evil. Also referred to as the festival of colors, Holi is one of the most brilliant festivals that Hindus celebrate. From rain dances to water guns filled with liquid color to Holi-special restaurant menus, the Holi festivities are a blast! For a colorful and memorable keepsake, wear a white t-shirt during the celebration. During Holi, keep in mind that the people whom you have the opportunity to laugh and dance with may also be some of the people you help during clinic. Because many residents cannot afford the out-of-pocket expenses associated with subsidized healthcare, IMR will help to bring much-needed aid and education to the people in India who have more difficulty accessing medical treatment.

This is an area where traditional medicine dominates and we will have an opportunity to learn about the botanicals used by local healers. You will also have an opportunity to learn about the rich culture of this beautiful and unique area, where the people are passionate about their religion, crafts, and corn!

Lodging & Transportation

You and your team will be staying in Mumbai in comfortable, safe, and clean accommodations.  Transportation to and from clinic will be provided each day. If you travel on the group flight, all of your airport transportation to and from the hotel will be pre-arranged. For those flying into Mumbai independently, you have the option to include your airport transportation for an additional charge through our partner, Worldwide Navigators .

The children…taught me how little it takes from each of us giving just a piece of our heart, time, served with a slice of kindness to change the world around us. I feel so fortunate to have experienced this first day on my mission trip to Peru with IMR. It was an eye opening experience at many levels, but at the heart of it all was the enthusiasm, generosity, and love of all those I volunteered with. I look forward to future service trips around the world with International Medical Relief. Dr. Amina, Team Peru

Mumbai Gateway to India

Trip Highlights

The lasting connections that you make with the people of Mumbai within and out of clinic will undoubtedly be the highlight of your trip. By celebrating goodness at Holi with some of the same people you may treat at clinic, you will find yourself completely submerged in Indian culture. If you are lucky, some of your newly made friends will teach you a Bollywood Dance that you can, in turn, teach your friends back home.

While the most rewarding aspect of this trip will be caring for the people of Mumbai, your team will also have the opportunity to visit the famous Gateway of India, an iconic, 85-foot arch that is often referred to as the “Taj Mahal of Mumbai.” This architectural wonder may very well be one of your favorite sites to see!

india-trip-food

Food & Water

All food is typically provided during your stay. Please refer to your unique itinerary on our website to review which meals are provided each day. We may hire local people to cook for the team during our visit, or we may eat at restaurants or hotels. Lunch in clinic may include sandwiches made by the team or a feast prepared in your honor by community leaders. We recommend bringing snacks to eat during the day or evening or to supplement your lunch. High protein/high fat/high energy snacks are best. IMR also provides all of the drinking water for the team. Hydration and nutrition are extremely important for the health of the team. You are the best judge of your own health so please pack appropriate snacks and stay well hydrated on the trip.

Extend Your Stay!

Since you are already venturing across the globe, have you considered extending your stay by a few days to see some of the top tourist destinations around Delhi? IMR offers an exclusive three-day extension to its volunteers provided by our partner,  Worldwide Navigators .

Worldwide Navigators offers a fantastic opportunity to continue your trip and explore off the beaten path, giving you more time to see the sights in India.

Itinerary is subject to change without notice.

Full Mission (7-8 Days)

After a long journey, you and the rest of your volunteer team will land at the International Airport. For those joining the group flight, together, you will take the airport shuttle to your hotel. Upon check-in, you will meet with the rest of your team for a delicious dinner and orientation.

You and your team will provide training for local healthcare providers to continue IMR’s long-term, sustainable education efforts.  Education is as important as medical and dental care for our patients. Each clinic includes basic health education according to the specialties and skills of the IMR volunteers, as well as the needs of the local people.

There will be some days you will host clinic at a camp about a few hours out from your lodging. Other days, you and your team will be serving people in the city you are in. Clinic will begin early in the morning and run into the evening. When you return to your hotel each evening, you can expect to attend a team debrief followed by an excellent team dinner and much-needed downtime.

This a cultural/free day to explore the area: if you’re there for the Holi Festival you can partake in the “festival of colors” celebrated by millions of Hindus who douse themselves in brightly colored powders. If you’re in the Jaipur area, you may venture to Galtaji and will come across the complex Ramgopalji temple, locally called the Monkey temple (Galwar Bagh).

On your last day in India, enjoy one final breakfast with your team before beginning your departure home.

Crisis Management & Emergency Response

We take security very seriously at IMR. It is our job to ensure that security precautions are in place, but please keep in mind that we cannot guarantee your safety on the trip.

  • We continuously review all current activities occurring on the ground, and we work with the State Department and the U.S. Embassy to know the ground situation to the best of our ability.
  • A security training conference call is available to our volunteers where we detail our security procedures that are in place for the trip.
  • We take many security precautions such as radios, a buddy system, emergency evacuation plan and security planning.
  • We protect the privacy of our volunteers in the field and provide them with customized contact information for their use.
  • During our mandatory briefing, team members review our safety protocols, evacuation procedures, protocols for illness, natural disaster and terrorism. We provide training to our teams to be cognizant of their own safety and to be aware of their surroundings.
  • Several policies require teams to adhere to safety issues.

Mission Trip to India

TO SERVE THE POOREST OF THE POOR

India Pilgrimage (2024 – winter – 2 weeks)

mission trips to india

This is not a regular mission trip, staying at 3 star hotels, walking a lot, spending most of the time volunteering, etc. In addition to visiting the following holy sites, the pilgrims will experience India in an incredible way – with elephant rides, special cultural shows, amazing local boat rides, staying at unique 4/5 star hotels, etc.

We will visit the home of Mother Teresa, attend mass at her tomb. We will also take time for a pilgrimage to South India.  St. Thomas the Apostle built the earliest Christian churches in Kerala. Tracing his footsteps, we will visit some of those churches, experience Eastern rite Catholic Mass, pray and retreat on a houseboat, and unpack our experiences of the trip together.

Finally, we will immerse ourselves in Portuguese culture in Goa.  Five centuries ago St. Francis Xavier reintroduced Catholicism which later spread to all corners of the nation.  His incorrupt body is still at the Basilica of Bom Jesus in Goa, and it is display only once in 10 years. Yes, you guessed it, we will be there just in time to witness the miracle.

You will be immersed in the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of India. It will be an explosion of the senses. We’ll visit the places that make India distinct and beautiful, like the majestic Taj Mahal, the royal Palaces of Jaipur, and the historic monuments of New Delhi. We will ride trains, tuk tuks, and elephants too!

mission trips to india

Do I need a passport to go to India?

Yes. And it should be valid for 6 more months from the date of departure.

Do I need a visa to go to India?

Yes. If you apply a few months in advance, you will receive a visa for 10 years. You can visit as many times as you want but each trip should not last longer than 6 months. If you apply a few days before the trip, then it is valid only for a month.

If you work for the Church, you have to fill additional forms. If you have criminal background, even if it is from a long time ago, your visa application maybe rejected.

We will walk you through the application process.

Do I need vaccinations?

No, no vaccinations are mandatory. But a few are highly recommended depending on the time of the year.

We will explain more in a video conference at the time of orientation.

Do I need Travel Insurance?

No. But we highly recommend travel insurance.

We will make suggestions and give you referrals during the orientation.

Which City do we depart from?

As people will be joining us from all over the country, we usually meet in Los Angeles and fly from there. This will be confirmed at the time of booking of the trip.

Everyone is responsible to get there by themselves. However, we can assist in booking tickets for you from your Home City for a fee.

Will I attend daily Mass?

Most days, yes. Sundays and feast days, definitely. In Calcutta, everyday. Remaining days, when we travel, we will not get a chance to catch Mass but may find a Church for adoration.

Can other Christians and non-Christians go on a trip?

Absolutely. But it is expected of you to respect our beliefs and attend our services.

How much pocket money do I need?

$100. You can bring more if you want to shop more.

If you notify us in advance, we will help you with the currency exchange from dollars to rupees.

Who will help with the transportation and sightseeing in India?

Your tour guide or his assistant will be with you the whole time. Communicating and navigating around in India is hard for foreigners. Which is why, we take care of that so you can enjoy admiring the beauty and serve the needy without difficulty or frustrations.

What can I bring?

We will share a packing list at the time of orientation, along with the baggage allowance details.

What can I wear?

Summer temperature is going to be in the 80s and 90s. Winter temperature is going to be in the 60s and 70s. It will increase by another 10 degrees in both the seasons as we go south. There will be some rain during our summer trips.

Casual wear is most ideal for the trips. Jeans, shorts (summer), t-shirts, polos, sweaters (winter), and dresses with shoulders and knees covered. Short shorts, mini skirts, and tank tops are not allowed on our trips. Some tourist attractions have strict entry regulations.

For feet, Chacos are the usual favorites. Flip flops and sandals are good too. Shoes are less convenient, as they are not allowed in most tourist sites. Whatever you wear, they will get very wet when you are volunteering.

Can I manage speaking only in English?

Yes. You just need to bring every sentence down to 3 words to talk with most Indians on the streets. But you will find many students and working professionals who can converse with you for the most part. Just remember to talk slow (not loud) and not use the slang.

Are meals included in the cost of the trip?

All meals are included in India, except for lunches in Calcutta. Prior to arriving in and again after departing from New Delhi/Calcutta, you are responsible for your own meals. However, international flights include meals.

I am a vegetarian or gluten-free. Is it possible to find safe meals for me in India?

Absolutely. India has many rice options. Most curries are gluten-free and every restaurant offers vegetarian dishes.

How old do I have to be to go on a trip?

You must be at least 18 years old by the time of the trip. Youth between 13 & 17 must be accompanied by a family member or a chaperon.

Can children and elderly go on a trip?

Physically fit and active adults as well as teens with parents are welcome to join our trips. We usually have mostly young adults and some adults.

There will be 3-5 miles of walking everyday and some days even more. That on top of jetlag will be very difficult for children. And most places in India are not handicap accessible, therefore elderly need to discern our trips very carefully.

Is India safe for foreigners?

Yes. You do not have to worry about any violence. The cities we are visiting are very safe and tourist friendly. You just need to worry about bargaining. For that, we will give you enough tips.

Meals on the other hand can be tricky. Your guide will pick safe places to eat at and remind you not to drink local water or eat cold food. Bottled water is going to become your best friend.

Are the hotel rooms shared?

Yes, you will share your hotel room with someone on the trip. We make sure men share rooms with men and women share rooms with women. Married couples and parents and children do not have to sorry about sharing their rooms with others.

If you are not interested in sharing your room, please let us know in advance and we will book a private room for you for an additional fee.

Will the hotels have WiFi and AC?

Yes, all the hotels will have WiFi and AC.

Those who signed up to go to Kerala, for the day that we will spend on a houseboat, you will not have WiFi.

What is the cancellation policy?

In the event that you need to cancel the trip due to any reasons, the following charges will be applicable -

- 0% of the trip cost + the application fees, if intimated BEFORE the flights and hotels are booked. - 25% of the trip cost + the application fees, if intimated AFTER the flights and hotels are booked. - 50% of the trip cost + the application fees, if intimated 7 days prior to the trip. - 75% of the trip cost + the application fees, if intimated 24 hours prior to the trip.

Can I apply for a scholarship?

Ministry staff, students and unemployed can apply for scholarships. Contact us for more details.

I can't pay for the trip. Can I fundraise?

Yes. We can help you through the process under a few terms and conditions. Contact us for more details.

Where can I find coupon codes?

Look for coupon codes on our Facebook page. Like us and follow us here. www.fb.com/bishoptrip

Maranatha

Maranatha’s first project in India was in 1988. But the big push for mission trips to India began in 1998, when we opened offices in the country. Since then, Maranatha has steadily worked with the Seventh-day Adventist Church in India to complete more than 1,600 churches and school classrooms in the country.

In 2012, Maranatha introduced another product to India: Elementary Education Centers. These multi-classroom buildings have been ideal for schools with large enrollments.

In recent years, Maranatha has been responding to requests for churches and schools in northeastern India. In this part of the country, a significant portion of the population is Christian. However, the Seventh-day Adventist faith is relatively new, and many congregations are without a place of worship. Adventist schools are also in need of construction support for their facilities.

In 2023, the Maranatha will continue providing churches, schools, and water wells across the country.

Capital: New Delhi Population: 1.3 billion Adventist membership: 1,501,467

Red Lake Nation goes on a sales trip to India to discuss trade, walleye and wild rice

A product on a counter

India is now the world’s most populous nation with 1.4 billion people. This week Red Lake Incorporated will look to tap into that giant market by joining a US trade mission to India.

From his reservation government office Red Lake Incorporated Chief Development Officer Jaycob Robinson is busy finalizing plans for the trip.

“We have enterprises that have been focused in export marketing of agricultural products, primarily cultivated wild rice for over 25 years. So, we’ve been really active in export market and export market development,” Robinson said. “We’ve been working with the USDA and the Intertribal Ag Council and the American Indian Foods Program for five or six years now.”

Currently Red Lake Incorporated oversees a portfolio of 13 different companies. They’ve participated in past trade missions with the USDA to East Africa, the Netherlands, Japan and Chile.

“For India, we’re primarily focused on looking for surplus markets for some of our seafood products, as well as looking for value add and production opportunities with cultivated wild rice or value-added products based around cultivated wild rice,” he said.

The seafood is walleye from Red Lake and the salmon from their minority share in a wild Alaskan salmon company.

And the wild rice?

“We have one of the largest rice specific farms in the state of Minnesota, where we produce and grow our own rice every year,” Robinson said. “All the harvesting, all the planting, all the farm maintenance is done by Red Lake tribal members.”

Robinson says processing of the wild rice is done by a third party, but packaging is done at the tribal-owned facility in Bemidji. Distribution is also done by a third party.

“We service direct to consumer, domestic markets, retail, as well as bulk exports,” he said.

Red Lake will join 46 other businesses and organizations on the mission. However, it will be the only representative from a Native or tribal community.

“It feels unfortunately familiar. You know, there’s been a lot of instances where we are one of the only Native businesses or Native producers represented at a lot of events,” Robinson said. “It’s a great opportunity, very, very thankful and very grateful for the opportunity. It’s made possible by working with the Intertribal Ag Council who provides the support for us to attend these events.”

Jam and jellies

The benefits trade missions offer are familiar to Brian McClung. As deputy chief of staff and press secretary for Gov. Tim Pawlenty, he took part in three trade missions, including one to India.

“I really believe that the Red Lake Nation is going to be a signature highlight of this trade mission, because of their deep history, their deep knowledge and a product like wild rice that is so important to the culture, the Native American people and here in Minnesota, and bringing that to India,” McClung said. “Those trade missions really are an exchange of cultures.”

One major booster for Red Lake’s trip to India is U.S. Sen. Tina Smith.

“As you know, they participated in trade missions before and it has helped to open up markets for their products,” she said. “The global markets are very interested in authentic Native Indigenous foods from the United States. And so, this is a huge opportunity.”

Smith says for a long time tribes weren’t represented on trade missions. That all changed with the 2018 farm bill.

“I pushed hard to get tribal representation on these trade missions,” Smith said from her office in Washington, D.C. “I’m delighted that this is finally happening, and it will be a great benefit to Red Lake.”

A woman greets a crowd at the capitol

In his Red Lake office Jaycob Robinson makes sure he has all he needs for this trip, including the 20-pound sack of wild rice he’ll show potential customers. As a young Red-Laker he never dreamed he’d have a job in international business.

“Absolutely not. It’s been a great learning opportunity. And just learning how to engage in business relationships on a global setting,” he said. “Also just seeing how forthcoming and how willing people are to learn about new things and try different things and work to incorporate our products into their markets or into their products, has been very eye-opening, and very inspiring.”

Robinson says this mission will be an opportunity to educate Indian consumers about new products while building awareness and distribution networks within new markets.

Politics latest: Sunak facing questions from Trevor Phillips - as he refuses to rule out July election

Rishi Sunak will be answering questions on Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips, as he refuses to rule out a July general election. Meanwhile, a summit headed by Alex Salmond will meet later to discuss a key vote that could bring down Scotland's First Minister Humza Yousaf.

As Humza Yousaf fights to maintain leadership of Scotland, the Alba Party's Alex Salmond joins Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips.

Meanwhile, Ash Regan, the Alba Party's sole MP and potentially the deciding vote in a no-confidence motion in Mr Yousaf, is expected to meet with the first minister.

Ms Regan will "make a set of reasonable proposals to help him out of a very tight corner", says Mr Salmond.

"Scotland is lucky that somebody like Ash Regan is in that position."

Independence forces should be "cooperating together to try and get independence back as a priority in Scottish society".

Asked if an agreement can be reached with the SNP, Mr Salmond says Mr Yousaf is "in a very difficult position" but he will be in a "listening mode".

"He wouldn't have sacked the Greens from his administration unless he wanted a significant change in direction," says Mr Salmond.

"One possible outcome of this political crisis is there might be a Scottish election."

Earlier this week, Labour pledged to nationalise the railway system.

Shadow health secretary Wes Streeting says the plan is a "reflection of the failure of privatised rail and the absence of competition".

If you bring the franchises back into public ownership as they come up, the profits can be reinvested into better services and fairs, argues Mr Streeting.

"There is already enormous public ownership of our railways, but they are owned by French, German, Dutch and Italian taxpayers, and our profits go into their countries."

"It's time that we had public ownership of our railways so we can reinvest."

Trevor Phillips continues to put questions to shadow health secretary Wes Streeting.

He is about Keir Starmer's pledge to maintain the triple lock, with Phillips raising statistics showing median wealth for those in their early 60s was nearly nine times higher than those in their early 30s.

"I don't buy into that intergenerational conflict argument. We need to give pensioners the reassurance to know that as they have planned for retirement... that Labour will protect the triple lock."

Wes Streeting is asked about the possibility of a July election, which the prime minister has refused to rule out.

The shadow health secretary says: "He should get on with it. We are not just ready, we are, as with the rest of the country, fed up of waiting."

People are "crying out for an opportunity to deliver their verdict on this government and vote for change", he says.

"That's why the prime minister bottled an election earlier this year, that's why he's bottled it now, and that's why he will have to be taken out of Downing Street by his fingernails."

Labour's shadow health secretary Wes Streeting is next on Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips.

He says Dan Poulter's defection to Labour is a reflection of the "disillusionment of millions of Conservative voters", as well as of a "changed Labour party" because "only Labour can be trusted with the NHS".

Mr Poulter defended and carried out NHS reforms under the Conservative government.

Rishi Sunak's defence spending increase is "Trump-proofing" the UK, should the former president return as American leader in November, says CNN's chief international anchor Christiane Amanpour.

She says it is also indicative of the fact that all Ukrainian allies will need to put themselves on more of a war-footing.

Alastair Campbell adds Labour is in the same place on defence spending, and he believes both party leaders should be putting foreign policy at the heart of the next election.

Labour "understand they have to be very strong on defence", he says.

But this is boxing the next administration in because "there is no money", says former Number 10 communications director, Sir Craig Olive.

"These are major spending decisions and they stop you being able to spend on other things,"

The prime minister is asked whether - if he loses the next general election - he will have any regrets.

"You’re again focused on all this personality stuff. I'm focused on delivering for the country.

"What I'm doing is getting up every single day and working my hardest to deliver for people on the things that matter to them and matter to me.

"That's what we're doing: significant reforms to our welfare system to support people into work, because that's good for them, because there's dignity and purpose and hope in work, and the current system is simply financially unsustainable.

"Massive investment in our defence, because the world we're living in is more uncertain.

"A landmark piece of legislation to get our Rwanda scheme up and running to stop the boats, a tax cut worth £900 next week."

The prime minister is pressed several times on whether there will be an election in July, but he refuses to rule out a vote.

"You're going to try and say you're ruling this out, you're ruling that in," says Mr Sunak.

"I just need to know when to book my holidays. July is possible?" responds Phillips.

"Actually, Trevor, it's more important than your holiday or anyone's holiday."

Philips says: "Just answer my question about July and we can move on. So, it could be July?"

The prime minister won't budge: "I'm not, I'm not going to do that."

Trevor Phillips turns the prime minister's attention to the Rwanda scheme, and the fact the number of small boats has increased this quarter compared to the same period last year.

"Almost the entirety of that increase comes from one country: Vietnam, because last year we dealt with the problem that was illegal migrants from Albania," responds Rishi Sunak.

"We returned thousands. We saw the numbers drop. That shows you that deterrence works."

Mr Sunak is asked about comments from Ireland's deputy prime that people coming across in small boats are now finding their way into Ireland.

"Are we simply exporting the problem now? Is that the deterrent?" asks Phillips.

Mr Sunak says it shows that the Rwanda scheme is"already having an impact" as a deterrent.

Rishi Sunak defends his decision to increase defence spending.

"Like it or not, the world that we're living in is more dangerous," he says.

Sky News' Trevor Phillips points to some experts who have said the investment will only amount to approximately £20bn over six years.

Mr Sunak says: "It's the biggest strengthening of our national defense in a generation."

"This is the country's security. We have made a choice. I think it's the important and right choice for our country."
