Stadium rockers Muse are heading to Dublin's 3Arena this week as they kick off the UK and Ireland leg of their current tour.

The Will of the People world tour – in support of the album of the same name – began in April 2022 and is currently set to conclude in South America in November this year.

It's already had a North American and European leg, so expect the show to be very slick and well oiled by the time they reach Ireland on Wednesday, September 27.

Here's everything you need to know ahead of the live music gig , whether you've already got your tickets or are thinking of popping along last minute.

Muse at 3Arena – tickets

Good news if you're still thinking of heading to Wednesday's Dublin date: Some limited production hold tickets were released at the end of August, and there was still a few available at the time of writing.

Standing tickets priced at €81 (excluding booking fee), as well as seated tickets from €101 to €136 are both available on Ticketmaster , as well as official resale tickets – with some selling for below face value.

Stage times and support act

British rock duo Nova Twins will support Muse on their Dublin date.

Doors open at 6.30pm, and you can expect support to kick off by 7.30pm latest.

Based on previous European dates on this tour, we'd expect Muse to take to the stage about 8.30pm. The show typically lasts just under two hours (1 hour, 50 minutes).

Aah, that all-important set list. Here's what Muse played at their most recent European date at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan, Italy back in July. Expect something fairly similar on Wednesday.

  • Will of the People
  • Map of the Problematique
  • Won't Stand Down
  • Thought Contagion
  • Time Is Running Out
  • The 2nd Law: Isolated System
  • Undisclosed Desires
  • You Make Me Feel Like It's Halloween
  • We Are Fucking Fucked
  • The Dark Side
  • Supermassive Black Hole
  • Plug In Baby
  • Behold, the Glove (Matt Bellamy song)
  • Kill or Be Killed
  • Knights of Cydonia

Travel options and how to get there

The Luas is almost certainly the easiest way to get to the 3Arena from the city centre via public transport.

If you're travelling by train to Dublin, board the Luas Red Line to The Point stop from either Connolly or Heuston. This will helpfully bring you right to the doorstep of the 3Arena.

The full list of city centre stops on the Luas Red Line can be found here .

Or, if you'd prefer to avoid the crowds and walk, the 3Arena is roughly a 20-minute stroll from O'Connell Street.

Simply walk down the Northside Quays, past the IFSC until you arrive at the venue.

If you're looking to drive to the 3Arena, there will be limited car parking spaces available at Point Village car park.

The flat cost is €16 plus booking fee from 6pm until 12am. You can book parking tickets in advance via Ticketmaster.

However using public transport is definitely preferential, given the large crowds that will be travelling to the 3Arena on the night for the big gig and this is how promoters are advising concert goers to travel.

The Muse will be playing 3Arena tonight so here's everything you need to know about the gig: from the setlist and support acts to stage times, parking spaces and more.

The multi-platinum and Grammy Award winning rock band will be promoting their latest album Will of The People, which shot straight to #1 on the UK Official Album Chart, making it the band’s seventh consecutive studio album to top the chart. The critically acclaimed Will Of The People sold over 50,000 copies in its first week, a figure which means it sold more than the rest of the Top 10 combined.

With tickets still available , you can go tonight even if you hadn't planned to beforehand. Here's everything you need to know about their event tonight:

Support act

Muse will be joined by Nova Twins as the support act. Nova Twins are an English rock duo formed in London, England, in 2014, consisting of vocalist/guitarist Amy Love and bassist Georgia South. Their debut album Who Are the Girls? was released in February 2020 and their most recent album, Supernova, was released in June 2022.

There's a fair amount of tickets still available through Ticketmaster . Tickets start from €50.

Stage times

Doors open at 6.30pm.

Age restrictions

Under 16's need to be accompanied by a parent or a guardian. Standing places are strictly for over 14s. Patrons seated in Row 21 are advised that standing is not permitted at any time.

Accessibility

Blocks H to P are accessible by stairs only and the rows towards the rear of these blocks may not suit those who have mobility difficulties.

Getting there

If you can't walk or cycle to 3Arena, the venue is accessible by public transport.

Dublin Bus offers a high frequency and accessible service from all over Dublin to within a 20 minute walk of 3Arena. The 151 route operates every 10 minutes during rush hour and will leave you on Castleforbes Road, the closest stop to the venue, just a two minute walk away. The last bus departs Castleforbes Road at 23.15pm Monday to Saturday.

You can travel to 3Arena via the Luas Red line and you can switch from the Green Line in the city centre, if you're travelling from a different direction. There are extra trams on show nights to cater for the large numbers travelling to and from 3Arena.

Irish Rail provides link to the city from all over the county, bringing you to Connolly or Heuston Station from where you can hop on the luas, straight to 3Arena.

Driving to 3Arena is always an option. There is limited car parking available in The Point Village carpark but please be aware this carpark is not operated by 3Arena. However, with large numbers gathering on show nights traffic congestion can delay your arrival and departure so we encourage you to use public transport where possible.

The weather tonight will be windy for a time tonight with strong and gusty westerly winds gradually easing as Storm Agnes clears towards Scotland, Met Eireann forecasts. There will be a mix of clear spells and scattered showers becoming isolated through the night. Lowest temperatures will reach 11 or 12 degrees.

Muse in Dublin review: A masterclass in the sublime and ridiculous

The british rock band roll into town with confetti canons, retina-testing lights, flame effects – and a giant satan.

3Arena, Dublin

Muse singer and guitarist Matt Bellamy has wisely dialled back on espousing conspiracy theories in recent years, retracting that tiresome red flag about 9/11 being an inside job, and focusing on his band’s music rather than tinfoil hat tomfoolery. However, there is still a distinct undercurrent of it in their work. Their most recent album is entitled Will of the People , for starters, which sounds like something Tom Hardy’s Bane character said in The Dark Knight Rises. Bellamy claims it is “a greatest hits album – of new songs”.

For all their bluster, pretension and often baffling cocktail of Queen’s pomp rock, Pink Floyd’s prog, Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden’s crunching riffs, and a relentless obsession with dystopian narratives, Muse are enduringly popular because they quite simply are a brilliant rock band of fantastic musicians who put on great shows. This is their fifth tour in a row to gross more than $100 million (€95 million) and sell over a million tickets. They roll into this dockside arena every few years with a massive backline and a lavish light show, and audaciously attempt to outdo their previous outings in terms of sheer scale and breathtaking ambition.

muse tour dublin

This is also a homecoming of sorts for the Devon trio. Bassist Chris Wolstenholme lived in Foxrock for a couple of years and his son played for Cabinteely FC. Bellamy’s mum hails from Belfast, and he salutes the occasion as the first concert he has played on Irish soil as a dual citizen. He must have applied for that post-Brexit passport after all.

Set openings are seldom this jaw-dropping. The band wear futurist silver masks for the aforementioned title track, Will of the People, which sounds louder and far more urgent live. Interlude and Hysteria start an unexpected celebration of their third album, Absolution, which sends long-term fans into delirium.

Extreme male grooming: Why are young men embracing damaging beauty ideals?

Muse complement their high-octane set with confetti canons, streamers, copious flame effects, retina-testing lights, gigantic screens, and a masked man and a devil bigger than your average house. You Make Me Feel Like It’s Halloween and the hysterically titled We Are F**king F**ked are further examples of the preposterous on record but totally killer live school of Muse stage craft.

The slowed-down proggy tempo of Madness lacks potency, but they more than compensate with a crowd-pleasing rendition of Uprising, where Bellamy plays its intro on a Nintendo power glove. For the encores, a giant Satan dwarves the stage with its hands protruding out into the arena.

Muse deliver a staggering 24-song set of propulsive, power-pop-flavoured hard rock to thrill the faithful and convert the curious. It’s mad to think that the first time they played Dublin was a humble support slot to Elastica in the old Temple Bar Music Centre and appearing bottom of the bill at the Trinity Ball. Elastica split up decades ago, while Muse are still touring the world, giving a masterclass in the sublime and ridiculous.

Rock trio Muse have announced a date at Dublin’s 3Arena as part of their Will of the People world tour, taking place on Wednesday, September 27, 2023.

It will mark their first show in Ireland since 2016.

The Grammy Award winning outfit will be supported on the night by London rockers Nova Twins. They also announced they’ll be playing Manchester’s AO Arena and two shows at The O2 London.

The news comes as the Devon outfit finished up a summer tour of the UK and Europe with Royal Blood in Milton Keynes last night (June 25).

Muse released their ninth studio album, ‘Will of the People’, last year, where it jumped to #1 on the UK Official Album Chart. The chart-topping accolade marked their seventh consecutive album to top the chart, which began with 2003’s Absolution.

Consisting of singer and guitarist Matt Bellamy, bassist Chris Wolstenholme and drummer Dom Howard, Muse released their first record, ‘Showbiz’, in 1999. Starting as a melancholic alternative rock outfit, the band found more mainstream success with albums like ‘Absolution’ and ‘Black Holes and Revelations’ and became known for their high energy, concept focused live performances.

They became known as one of the best stadium rock bands in the world and in recent years have experimented with their music on albums like ‘Drones’ and ‘Simulation Theory’.

Over their career, the band have won two Grammy Awards, two Brit Awards, five MTV Europe Music Awards and eight NME Awards.

Muse’s arena dates are below:

Wednesday 27th September 2023 – Dublin 3Arena Friday 29th September 2023 – Manchester AO Arena Sunday 1st October 2023 – London The O2 Monday 2nd October 2023 – London The O2

Where to go

Experiences in dublin, introducing dublin.

A lively and young European capital , full of fun but also art and culture. This is Dublin , the heart of the Republic of Ireland, a welcoming, colorful and people-oriented city.

Founded by the Vikings as a center for their slave trade, Dublin is situated at the mouth of the River Liffey, which divides it into two parts and is crossed by the characteristic Ha'penny Bridge , built in 1816 and which owes its name to the toll of half a penny needed to cross over it. Along the north shore lie the busy shopping streets of Talbot Street and Henry Street . On the southern shore the atmosphere is more sophisticated, especially around Grafton Street with its luxury shops. Here you'll also find the famous Trinity College , known as the oldest and most presigious university in Ireland, that has had famous students such as Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett, Bram Stoker and Jonathan Swift.

Do not miss the old Christ Church Cathedral , St Patrick 's Cathedral , considered the national protestant cathedral of Ireland, and Dublin Castle , a Norman fortress which was for a long time symbol of the English oppression.

Nature lovers can enjoy a walk in Phoenix Park , a beautiful park of 800 hectares which is home to the Dublin Zoo . The center of nightlife is the Temple Bar district, artistic and cultural heart of the city, with its maze of narrow streets, cafes, bars, theaters, exhibition spaces and pubs, fundamental aspect of this city. Just as is the famous dark beer, Guiness and the museum dedicated to its history the Guinness Storehouse . The roof of this museum is home to the Gravity Bar , the highest bar in Ireland, with panoramic views across Dublin.

14 Best Museums in Dublin (2024 Edition)

By Author Keith O'Hara

14 Best Museums in Dublin (2024 Edition)

In search of the best museums in Dublin? You’ve landed in the right spot.

When it comes to mighty museums Dublin punches well above its weight, but there’s a problem.

Many of the finest museums in the city get overlooked, with a few (understandably!) stealing the limelight.

And, while the Museum of Natural History and IMMA are both wonderful places to spend an afternoon, Dublin is far from a ‘one-horse-town’ when it comes to museums, as you’ll discover below.

Table of Contents

The best museums in Dublin

Chester Beatty

The topic of the best museums in Dublin is one that stirs up a fair bit of debate online, and rightly so.

In this guide, I’ve included Dublin museums that I’ve visited and loved along with ones that have racked up consistent rave reviews online.

1. The Dublinia Museum

Dublinia

Photos courtesy Dublinia via Ireland’s Content Pool

I’d argue that Dublinia is one of the best museums in Dublin if you’re looking to immerse yourself in the city’s Viking past.

From creating the first Irish trade routes to constructing what’s arguably Ireland’s most famous cathedral ( Christ Church Cathedral ), the Vikings had quite an impact in Ireland.

Visitors can experience Viking life with a visit to a Viking warship and learn warrior skills while also immersing themselves in Medieval Dublin’s bustling city, exploring crime, punishment, and remedies of the time.

It’s worth visiting to see the building alone. The museum is housed in Synod Hall – a 19th century structure designed by George Edmund Street, the man that led the restoration of Christ Church.

If you’re looking for unique museums in Dublin that pack a punch, carve out time to visit Dublinia!

2. 14 Henrietta Street

14 Henrietta Street

Bottom right: Fionn McCann. Others: Antoinette Reilly

I’m fresh off the back of a visit to 14 Henrietta Street . Now, before visiting, I wouldn’t have classed this as a museum, but it’s described as a ‘social history museum of Dublin life’, and it tells the story beautifully.

The minute you step onto Henrietta Street, you get a sense of what’s coming – the street itself is almost like stepping back in time.

The tour here is delivered by passionate guides who offer an insight into the history of the area and how it went from a once affluent corner of Dublin to a place where people lived hand-to-mouth.

This is one of the more unique Dublin museums, and the combination of storytelling, visual displays, 3D renderings and room reconstructions grip your attention from beginning to end.

3. The Chester Beatty

The Chester Beatty is one of a handful of free museums in Dublin . I’ve been here on several occasions and it never fails to deliver an enjoyable experience.

Sir Alfred Chester Beatty was one of the greatest collectors of the 20th century. During his lifetime, he collected thousands of artefacts, including everything from Egyptian Books of the Dead to contemporary Chinese woodblock prints.

In his later years, Beatty (and his collection) relocated to Dublin. A chunk of his incredibly impressive collection is now housed in the Chester Beatty in Dublin Castle .

The only issue that I’d have with the Chester Beatty is that I found it hard to read some of the information placards, as they were very  low down. If you need glasses, bring ’em!

4. The Museum of Natural History

The Dead Zoo

A visit to the Museum of Natural History , AKA ‘the Dead Zoo’, is up there as one of the best free things to do in Dublin (especially when it’s lashing down!).

Now, although the nickname sounds a bit morbid, this is one of several Dublin museums that’ll fascinate both young and old.

You’ll find this place tucked between Leinster House and the Attorney General’s Office where it’s home to over 10,000 species of taxidermied animals.

Fascinatingly, it was opened over 160 years ago, in 1857, making it one of the oldest museums in Dublin.

5. EPIC Museum

EPIC Museum

Photo left: Eileen Coffey. Others: Ros Kavanagh (via Fáilte Ireland)

The EPIC museum is one of the newest museums in Dublin City Centre, having only opened its doors back in 2016. However, even though it’s relatively new to the scene, it’s already become a go-to for tourists.

A visit to the EPIC museum takes you on a journey to uncover what it really means to be Irish ( see reviews and ticket prices ).

Those that visit will hear the stories of Irish emigrants who became scientists, politicians, poets and even outlaws all across the globe

Recently crowned Europe’s leading tourist destination, the museum has welcomed everyone from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to Justin Trudeau through its doors.

You’ll see this place ranking high in our guide to the best things to do in Dublin for good reason.

6. The Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA)

Irish Museum of Modern Art

Next up is the Irish Museum of Modern Art (also known as IMMA). You’ll find this place nestled in 48 acres in the heart of Dublin 8, a 15-minute walk from both Kilmainham Gaol and the Guinness Storehouse .

IMMA boasts a wide variety of art and an exhibitions programme that change regularly, ensuring there’s always something new to have a gawk at.

You can join one of the guided tours for free and get to known IMMA and the exhibitions in more detail via the words of an experienced guide.

If you’re a fan of modern art, few Dublin museums should tickle your fancy as much as IMMA!

7. The Glasnevin Cemetery Museum

Glasnevin Cemetery

The Glasnevin Cemetery Museum is arguably one of the most overlooked of the many Dublin museums, mainly as it sits just outside the city.

However, if the location puts you off, keep in mind that you can combine a visit here with a trip to the Botanic Gardens  and  The Gravediggers, where you’ll get some of the best Guinness in Dublin .

The Glasnevin Cemetery Museum is home to a wealth of history. In fact, since waaaaaaay back in 1832, a staggering 1.5 million people have been laid to rest within its walls.

The Cemetery is sprawled over an impressive 124 acres of parkland and the tour here is top-notch. The highlight, in my opinion, is the O’Connell Tower.

Those that climb the 198 steps to the top can enjoy breath-taking views out over Dublin City and beyond. This is widely regarded as one of the best museums in Dublin for good reason.

8. The Little Museum of Dublin

Little Museum of Dublin

Photos via Tourism Ireland

The award-winning Little Museum of Dublin tells the story of Ireland’s capital, from the visit of Queen Victoria to the global success of U2 ( see reviews and ticket prices ).

Set in an old Georgian mansion just off Grafton Street and right across from St Stephen’s Green , this gorgeous Dublin museum is packed with an endless number of things to discover.

From James Joyce to John F Kennedy, you’ll be immersed in countless stories and tales. There’s also plenty of weird and wonderful little artefacts and bits of random memorabilia on show.

This is one of the more unique museums in Dublin and, while it won’t take you long to get around it, it’s home to plenty of interesting bits and bobs to keep you entertained.

9. The GPO Museum

GPO

The GPO 1916 tour is excellent. I did it a couple of years back and I’ve been banging on about it to people since. When you walk into the GPO 1916 tour, you nearly feel like you’ve stepped out onto a battlefield.

From the minute the tour begins, you feel completely immersed in the action. The exhibition puts you right inside Dublin’s GPO during Easter Week in 1916.

It’s highly visual and conveys the events in an easy-to-digest, dramatic manner that’ll leave you with a totally different perspective of the General Post Office and O’Connell Street forever more.

10. The National Museum of Ireland (Archaeology)

Archaeology Museum

Photos via National Museum of Ireland on FB

The National Museum of Ireland (Archaeology) is one of the most popular museums in Dublin City Centre. The fact that it’s home to some mummies (yes, mummies!) helps.

The preserved remains you’ll find as part of the Kingship and Sacrifice exhibition at the National Museum of Ireland are a little spookier than those resting in the vaults at St. Michan’s .

These leathery-looking remains were human sacrifices that were then mummified by the Irish bogs they were buried in.

There’s plenty of other interesting artefacts to have a nosey at here and, like some of the other Dublin museums, it’s free!

11. The Irish Whiskey Museum

Irish Whiskey Museum

Photos by Brian Morrison via Failte Ireland

The Irish Whiskey Museum is a fine spot to learn about the history of Irish whiskey (you get to sample several types, too!).

The tour takes you through 4 different rooms, each of which represents a different period in Irish history.

In 2013, there were only 4 whiskey distilleries in Ireland and five visitor centers. Now, there are 24 operational distilleries and 28 more in different planning stages.

The Irish Whiskey Museum remains independent from all whiskey distilleries and provides an insightful and impartial insight into the world of whiskey in Ireland.

The tours are interactive and there are some tales that whiskey novices like myself should find interesting ( see reviews and ticket prices ).

12. National Museum of Ireland – Decorative Arts & History

National Museum of Ireland - Decorative Arts & History

Photos courtesy of 256 via Fáilte Ireland

The National Museum of Ireland – Decorative Arts & History is located at Collins Barracks in Stoneybatter, around a 10-minute walk from the Jameson Distillery .

Housed in a former military barracks, this museum showcases an extensive collection of decorative arts, fashion, furniture, and historical artifacts which offer an insight into the daily lives of Irish people over the centuries.

As you step into the vast exhibition halls, you’ll encounter an impressive array of items, including intricate silverware, delicate ceramics, and stunning textiles that reflect the artistic and creative achievements of Ireland’s past.

One of the museums highlights is the “Proclaiming a Republic: The 1916 Rising”  exhibition which explores the pivotal events of the Easter Rising .

13. The Irish Rock ‘n’ Roll Museum Experience

Next up is one of the most unusual museums in Dublin City Centre – the Irish Rock ‘N’ Roll Museum .

You find this place in Temple Bar, where it’s welcomed artists like Christy Moore and Rihanna over the years ( see reviews and ticket prices ).

Those that step inside its doors will discover all things weird and wonderful related to the Irish music industry. 30 years of musical history come together in one big experience.

Visitors will receive an access all areas pass that’ll provide entry to the backstage area at the renowned Button Factory venue, behind the Wall of Fame and to the recording studios where Glen Hansard’s Oscar award-winning film Once was filmed.

14. MoLI – Museum of Literature Ireland

Museum of Literature Ireland

Photo top right: Gareth McCormack. Others: Antoinette Reilly

We’ve saved one of the best museums in Dublin City Centre till last – MoLI – Museum of Literature Ireland ( see reviews and ticket prices ). It’s within theses walls that you’ll discover Ireland’s rich literary heritage.

There’s immersive exhibitions, beautiful gardens and plenty more to discover here. Although it’s a while since I last visited, I remember the Historic House Tour as the highlight.

It’s here that you explore Numbers 85 and 86 on St Stephen’s Green. These are examples of Georgian architecture at it’s finest.

Hi Keith! My wife and me will be in Dublin for the 1 April's weekend. We intend to visit one museum ( no time for more). I was curious about henrietta street and the little museum. What should be the right option for a senior visitant in his first time in Dublin. Thank's and congrats for your text. António Portugal

Hey Antonio! So, one thing about both of the museums that you've mentioned is that there's several steep staircases to climb in both. This might not be a problem, but I wanted to flag it for you, just in case. Having visited both museums recently, I'd lean towards Henriatta St. Another good option is the EPIC Museum on the Quays. Have a great trip!

Dublin, in a nutshell

Dublin is the capital of Ireland. From an insignificant Gaelic settlement at the mouth of the River Liffey in the 7th century, Dublin now finds itself among the top thirty cities in a globalised world. Location determined its history because it enabled whoever controlled the city to communicate easily and safely with England. The Vikings took advantage in the 10th century, only to succumb to the Anglo-Normans in the 12th. After centuries of poverty under English rule, Dublin grew tremendously prosperous in the 18th century and became the second-largest city in the British Empire. The loss of political power in 1800 and a devastating famine in the 1840s left a deep mark on Dublin. The Industrial Revolution passed it by, and the grand mansions of the 1700s became rundown tenements packed with desperately poor people. A sustained wave of reinvention and revitalisation that began in the 1990s continues to the present day and has turned Dublin into a vibrant global city.
