Here, a bar might mean a pumping nightclub, a chilled-out lounge complete with live Spanish guitar, a craft beer pub, a family-run winery or a hidden perch in the hills facing the sunset. Whatever your taste or tipple, there’s a watering hole for you. Here’s our list of the best bars in Tenerife.

1. Papagayo Beach Club

After dark on weekends, you can hit the open-air dance floor and dance to deep house or reggaeton spun by an impressive list of rotating DJs. This charming, urban spot in the heart of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a great place to relax, especially for those arriving by cruise ship – the terminal is nearby. There are other notable wine bars in the city like Vinoteca El Gusto Por el Vino, but Wine and Cheese delivers on authenticity – especially given its cobblestone location near the 17th-century church of St Francis of Assisi. 5. Zambra Skybar

This adults-only spot with panoramic views is your place for an upscale aperitif while mingling with the well-heeled locals. Order from a menu of impressive signature cocktails while you check out the futuristic decor, including a floating infinity pool that adds to the decadent vibe. The spacious terrace presents a range of musical acts during the weekends in the form of jazz, lounge and deep house.

6. Bar Alberto

This little haunt on the northwest coast is slightly off the beaten track, requiring a 15-minute uphill climb from the heart of Puerto de la Cruz. You’ll be rewarded with a truly local scene and breathtaking views in every direction. The best time to visit is at sunset when you can sip sangria or German beer while nature puts on a splendid visual show over the Atlantic. Come earlier for coffee drinks and smoothies – there’s also a limited food menu.

7. Vertigo Pool Club & Lounge

This waterfront rooftop bar in Puerto de la Cruz is aptly named, as it’s located on the 10th floor of the Atlantic Mirage Hotel. Locals and tourists are drawn to the extensive and colourful cocktail list, as well as champagnes served by the glass or bottle. The open layout has inviting views of the pool, ocean and Mount Teide – Spain’s highest peak – which is best enjoyed with a DJ playing chilled-out house in the background, with dance performers in tow. After a sundowner cocktail, head to the hotel’s Cumai Restaurante to continue your night out.

8. Cerveceria Mitematu

Craft beer fans will be in heaven at this pint-sized bar in San Cristobal de la Laguna – simply La Laguna for short – which features a wide selection of European and American IPAs, lagers, stouts, and sours. Many are served in colourful cans to be enjoyed al fresco, though indoor seating is also available. If you don’t know what you like to drink, the knowledgeable staff will happily make global suggestions based on your beer preferences. It’s a fun pit stop when exploring La Laguna’s Unesco-listed colonial streets by foot.

Though not technically a bar, this family winery in the green hills near El Sauzal offers the chance to experience a local winery in the vicinity of mountains and the sea. The outfit is run by Felipe Monje – a fifth-generation winemaker who oversees the production of grapes grown in volcanic soils and fermented in old oak barrels. Monje offers several options for how to experience the vineyards and the wines – mostly reds – such as guided group tastings, private tastings and reservable wine tours with cheese pairings. Or simply have lunch at the onsite restaurant and order wine with your meal while enjoying the views.

10. Harry’s Bar

This cocktail, beer and sports bar in the outdoor Safari shopping centre is practically an institution and considers itself to be the most popular pub in Tenerife. It’s nice enough for those who want a balcony seat for a prime view of the nightly fountain show that takes place below, and yet approachable enough for a constant rotation of sports on the TV. The extensive drinks list includes international beers, Caribbean cocktails, negronis and after-dinner spirits at a decent price that will tempt you to stay for a few rounds. Tenerife in Spain is a notoriously popular holiday destination amongst Brits, and for good reason! Between the balmy weather, swaying palms, and volcanic beaches, Tenerife is a wonderful choice for those craving some Canarian sunshine. There are plenty of well-loved bars scattered around the island, making it a great destination for those who are partial to a drink (or two …). All of the bars listed are located in the most visited areas within Tenerife, Costa Adeje and Playa de las Américas!

1. Nashira, Adeje

Nashira, a rooftop bar located in Torviscas Alto, is always full of atmosphere and serves a variety of delicious cocktails and small plates – it boasts breathtaking views over Playa de las Americas too. It’s just a 10-minute taxi ride away from the Playa de Fañabé beachfront (where many of the most sought-after hotels are located), or a 30-minute walk up the hill … it’s well worth the trek though! Nashira is open from 6pm until 1am everyday excluding Tuesdays and is incredibly popular amongst locals and tourists. Its interior is modern and stylish featuring greenery with gold details, making it a particularly attractive venue. Additionally, there is a live DJ, which gives it a lively atmosphere. We recommend booking yourself a seat on the outside terrace to coincide with the sunset.

2. Harry’s Bar, Safari Centre

Located on the balcony overlooking the Safari Centre is Harry’s Bar, a modern and groovy cocktail bar with a relaxed atmosphere. This eclectic bar is a well-loved venue on the island which offers customers an extensive selection of cocktails, including frozen mango daiquiris and Hawaiian Surfears – these fan favourites contain a range of tasty ingredients like coconut cream, fresh fruit, and rum! We recommend snagging yourself a seat on the balcony so that you have a front row seat to the Safari Centre’s fountain water show that takes place every hour.

3. Moonlight Bar, Playa de Fañabé

The Moonlight Bar is located just up from Playa de Fañabé and is famous for being one of the best venues to watch the sun set over the twinkling ocean. While this bar doesn’t boast the most impressive decor, it does serve a range of drinks, all of which are very reasonably priced. The Moonlight Bar is owned and operated by Brits, meaning that it is a great place to visit if you’re looking for somewhere guaranteed to show the football. Additionally, there are live performances from a range of artists throughout the week and karaoke in the evenings.

4. Calma Balkan Cuisine, Adeje

Calma is a rooftop bar situated right next to Nashira in Torviscas Alto. This bar provides the scenic views that Nashira does but without the noise, making it a great option for those looking for a spot with a more relaxed feel. In addition to offering guests a large selection of refreshing cocktails, Calma serves exquisite food. Some of Calma’s best-loved cocktails include the Grey Goose cooler and the loco calmapolitan which is served with a ball of candyfloss to melt into your drink for some added sweetness.

5. Hard Rock Cafe, Safari Centre

The Hard Rock Cafe in Tenerife’s Safari Centre is architecturally magnificent and looks like an ancient Greek structure. This venue is huge and offers a variety of seating options, including a downstairs restaurant, an upstairs lounge and a terrace! While the cocktails in the Hard Rock venues are typically on the pricier side, the atmosphere makes it well worth it. The Hard Rock Cafe Tenerife is often particularly busy, so we recommend booking a table in advance if you’re planning on dining there. However, if you fancy stopping by for a couple of cocktails, then booking is generally not required due to its spacious interior.

6. Bar Fresh, Playa de Fañabé

Bar Fresh is a small and intimate bar shaped like a cruise ship, and is located slightly in front of Playa de Fañabé. This bar specialises in mouthwatering cocktails, and its signature concoction is a wild berry prosecco gin fizz, which is garnished with fresh fruit and a sprig of mint. This bar also has live music in the evenings and is a great place to visit for a pre or post-dinner beverage.

7. Tanyos, Playa La Pinta

While Tanyos is not the most aesthetically pleasing bar, it is well-loved amongst locals and regulars alike. This bar serves a variety of refreshing drinks, including a range of mouthwatering frozen daiquiris and margaritas! The staff in Tanyos are incredibly welcoming and friendly, often offering guests complimentary cheese and ham toasties and crisps upon entrance.

This remote bar can be found a couple of beaches along from Playa de Fañabé and is situated on the beachfront. In addition to the scenic beach view, this bar is an excellent location to chill out with a delicious cocktail while watching the parasailers land on the sand in front. The fishing town of La Caleta is just a 10-minute walk away from the beach bar and is an excellent place to stop for some tapas or seafood!

9. Bloom, La Caleta

Bloom is a relatively new brunch spot and bar situated in the town of La Caleta which serves a range of regular and plant-based brunch options and cocktails. This bar is incredibly aesthetically pleasing in its decor, making it a wonderful venue to snap some Instagram pics. Additionally, Bloom serves a wide range of tasty and beautiful cocktails, garnished to perfection. Its extensive drinks menu makes this bar a well-loved location amongst many and is certain to have something for everyone. However, it is important to note that this venue is better-suited to day drinks and it may be worth venturing into the centre of Costa Adeje if you fancy bar-hopping throughout the evening.

10. Havana’s, Las Vista

Another frequently visited location in Tenerife is Los Cristianos, which is where you’ll find Havana’s! Havana’s is situated on Las Vistas beach meaning that it is a particularly scenic bar, ideal for enjoying a cocktail with a view. While this bar is well-known for its range of scrumptious cocktails, it serves a wide variety of other alcoholic and soft drinks. Additionally, the staff at this venue are extremely warm and friendly and their food is to die for!

We are not young but also not ready for the grave either. We like music (not live) bars, but not the mental 18-30 type. We can't seem to find out if there are any in Los Cristianos.

We have been looking at Biancos in the Safari Centre and wondered if there are any more modern/trendy type bars in this area.

We don't like typical British bars, we like cocktails and music.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Think Harry's Bar or the Monkey Bar may suit you. Both in the Safari Centre. Or perhaps the Magic Bar directly across the road. Hope this helps.

In Los Cris I would recommend Restaurant Margarita, I am told the cocktails are good (hearsay as I don´t drink) but the entertainment is first class - 3 acts every night. The food is also very good.

I'd heard Harry's might be good, but don't mind trying them all!!

I know you said not live bars but I would also try the Bulls Head who have a great live band called Vagabonds it's on the Parque de la Paz strip behind the Safari centre.

There is also the Soul Suite on the same strip if you like Motown music.

I will be in LC over Xmas and looking forward to the Bulls Head.

Might be worth trying the San Telmo centre in LC there are some good bars with entertainment in there.

No no lift - but IMO the best restaurants are in the middle level. These are on the roadside and from here they are direct access. You only need to use the steps if you then want to go down via the beachside or go up to a couple of bars.
