However, Sam is convinced show bosses need to come up with an innovative new format to revive ‘The X Factor’.

She added: “I do believe a new series could do with a little bit of a shake up. Singer/songwriters are huge at the moment, so I would make that a themed week on the show, so they could write a track and perform it. It would be great to give people the chance to download those original songs too, so it could kickstart some more careers.”

‘The X Factor’ ran from 2004 until 2018 with a variety of judges overseeing wannabes as they battled it out for a coveted record contract.

The show was dropped from ITV amid falling ratings, but recent reports have suggested Simon is keen to revive it.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “It has been decided that the time is right to bring X Factor back. It’s really exciting.

"Everyone who will be working on the new series can’t wait to get started ... The focus will all be on the competition element of the show, rather than the razzle dazzle.”

Sam Bailey couldn't believe her ears when she heard the heart-stopping news she'd made it to the X Factor final.

The former prison officer burst into tears as host Dermot O'Leary delivered the life-changing results, admitting the show was her last hope of singing stardom .

The 36-year-old blew judges and viewers away with two sensational performances as she competed alongside Nicholas McDonald and Luke Friend in the semi-final at Wembley Arena on Saturday night.

Sporting a sexy royal blue pant suit, the svelte-looking singer stormed onto the stage to sing Lady Gaga anthem Edge of Glory.

The mum-of-two threw herself into her performance so much, she even slid down a fireman's pole Bridget Jones style to demonstrate her willingness to put on a good show.

Judge Nicole Scherzinger was amazed by her powerful rendition.

"You sang the pants off that song," said Nicole, as Louis Walsh went onto tell Sam she has a "world class recording voice".

"I think this is your weekend. Incredible performance," Gary added.

Sam told Dermot: "This is amazing, this is what I was meant to do all these years ago. I'm up here now and I'm not going to let go."

But the best was yet to come as Sam was joined on stage by Nicole for a mind-blowing duet of And I Am Telling You from musical Dreamgirls.    

Dressed in figure-hugging floor-length gowns, the girls were given a standing ovation from the remaining judges.

Sam was overwhelmed by the response, admitting: "This is the highlight of the night for me."

But as the contestants lined-up to hear their fate, the journey was over for Luke Friend who received the least public votes, finishing in third place.

Sam couldn't believe she made it through to the final, alongside Nicholas McDonald.

She told Dermot: "I'm just so overwhelmed by the support. This has been last chance saloon for me for the whole process. It's been 20 years.

"It's been a long time coming and I've finally got here so thank you so much."

Now, it all rests on the grand final tonight on ITV1, where the Leicestershire lady will battle it out against Glaswegian teenager Nicholas.

Samantha Florence "Sam" Bailey  (born 29 June 1977) is an English pop/soul singer from Leicester who won Series 10 of The X Factor . She was a part of the Over 25s catagory, mentored by Sharon Osbourne .

Sam, who is from Bexley, England and had attended Bexley Arts College, is a married mother of two who had been singing on cruise ships, in clubs, and at music festivals for several years without success. She was even a member of a duo called Girls Next Door when she was a teenager.

Sam was living in Leicester with her husband Craig Pearson and their two children, son Tommy and daughter Brooke, and working as a prison officer when she tried out for the show.

The X Factor

Sam tried out for the show singing "Listen" by Beyonce in her room audition and then "Who's Loving You" by the Jackson 5 for her arena audition. Wowing the judges with her amazing voice, Sam progressed to bootcamp and then judges' homes where she got Sharon Osbourne as her mentor.

After Lorna Simpson and Shelley Smith were each eliminated in the first two weeks of the live shows, Sam became the only one left in her catagory, but despite that, she flourished, impressing the public week after week with her performances of such songs as "One Moment in Time" by Whitney Houston and "Bleeding Love' by Leona Lewis .

During her time on the show, Sam was compared to Scottish singer Susan Boyle due to her audition reminding people of Boyle's audition for  Britian's Got Talent  where they each impressed people with their talent as opposed to how they looked. 

After several weeks of grueling competition, Sam won X Factor UK on December 14, 2013, becoming the first "over" to win the show since Steve Brookstein in 2004.

Sam's first single is a cover of the Demi Lovato hit "Skyscraper". The single was successful, debuting at number 1 on the UK Singles Chart and becoming the fifth fastest-selling single of 2013.

Sam is currently playing the role of Mrs. Potts in the 2022 UK touring production of the Disney musical Beauty and the Beast .

Post the x factor.

In addition to being a part of the X Factor UK tour, Sam got to open for megastar singer Beyonce for one show on the UK leg of her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour on February 24, 2014. Sam's debut album,  The Power of Love , which features duets with Nicole Scherzinger and Michael Bolton, was released on March 24, 2014. It debuted at number 1 on the UK Album Chart, making Bailey the first X Factor UK winner to acheive that feat since Alexandra Burke . She headlined her first ever concert tour, which kicked off in January 2015 and ended in February of that year. She released her autobigraphy, Daring to Dream , in November 2014.

Pregnancy announcement

On March 6, 2014, Sam announced via Twitter that she and husband Craig Pearson were expecting their third child. She gave birth to a daughter. Miley Beau Pearson, on September 10, 2014, and she made former mentor and close friend Sharon Osbourne her godmother. However, she later admitted to suffering from Bell's palsy after her daughter's birth.

Leaving Syco Music

In February 2015, Sam announced via Twitter that she had parted ways with Syco Music. She was later cast as Momma Morton in a UK touring production of the musical  Chicago  in 2016.

New label and new album

Sam released a new album,  Sing My Heart Out , on September 16, 2016. It was her first album under a new label, Tiger Drum Records and peaked at #33 on the UK charts.

Sam Bailey wins The X Factor final

Sam Bailey was crowned winner of this year's X Factor  in an emotional final showdown on Sunday.

The former prison officer, 36, beat fellow finalist Nicholas McDonald after receiving more than one million public votes.

"I don't know what to say," said the overwhelmed star, watched by thousands inside Wembley Arena, and millions more at home. "I just want to say that I love that boy to pieces, Nicky McDonald."

"He's got the most amazing voice, I love him to death."

Adding that she was "just so grateful," Sam said, "Thank you so much everybody. I really am appreciative."

Runner-up Nicholas was gracious in his defeat. "If I was getting beaten by anybody it would be Sam," he said. "I just want to say thank you to absolutely every single person who voted for me. I love you all."

Sam was joined by former X Factor contestants as she sang her winners song

As the show's winner, Sam has received a recording contract and will also support Beyoncé on the UK leg of her Mrs Carter tour in February. Her winner's single, Skyscraper , is now available and will vie for the Christmas number one spot.A host of stars took to Twitter following the result's announcement to congratulate the singer.

Former winner Leona Lewis was among the first. "My girl @SamBaileyREAL did it!" she wrote. "Congratulations on winning @TheXFactor lady, your talent is immense x."

Sam couldn't hold back the tears as she was announced winner

Sam's mentor Sharon Osbourne , who was emotional throughout much of the final, wrote, "Thank you everyone was has backed @SamBaileyREAL on @The XFactor! She couldn't have done it without all of you behind her!

"I am so blessed to have been a tiny part of @SamBaileyREAL's victory tonight on @TheXFactor," she added. "Thank you."

Former X Factor contestant Olly Murs also praised the new champion. "Congratulations MISS @SamBaileyREAL you deserve that!!", while Saturdays star Mollie King tweeted, "Soooo happy about @TheXFactor result!!! I know I'm a bit late (no shock there!) haha, but I'm SO pleased it was Sam!! SOOO deserved!!!"

It was also a special night for Gary Barlow , who confirmed it was his last night on The X Factor . The Take That star sang a duet alongside his "lifelong hero" Elton John , as the two men performed Face To Face  at adjoining grand pianos.

"Not only am I finishing the show tonight, but I'm going to sing with my lifelong hero," Gary told host Dermot O'Leary. "I'm going to miss you all terribly. I love this show."

Sir Elton added, "It was so much fun watching the show, the two finalists are incredible, humble people. And what incredible singers they are.

"… The real reason I did it (the show) is because Gary has been a real friend of mine for the past 20 years, and when he picks up the phone, you do it."

X Factor winner Sam Bailey on staying in her first home even after fame

When Sam Bailey found fame after winning The X Factor in 2013, she could have chosen to spend her new-found wealth on moving to a bigger home, instead, she decided to remain in the semi-detached house her husband, Craig, purchased in 1999.

Now with extensions and renovations made to the property, it’s a much bigger home for Sam, Craig and their three children Brooke, 16, Tommy, 12, and Miley, six.

The most fun and recent change to the home was made during lockdown last year, when, with all pubs shut, Sam and Craig built a bar in their back garden.

Tell me about your first home

It’s in a cul-de-sac full of houses and had one bathroom and three bedrooms when we first bought it, but now after an extension, it’s a five-bedroom house and has another bathroom.

Why did you choose to buy the house?

Well, my husband chose it because of the location. We live in Leicester Forest East, a really sought-after area, where house prices are quite high and houses up for sale are sold within a very short period.

What do you like about the area?

It’s quite a laid-back place with a really diverse community and a real sense of inclusion, as well. When all the different festivals are on, such as Diwali, it’s absolutely brilliant round here. You could walk down the road when the festivals are happening, and people feed you — there’s just free food everywhere.

Why have you chosen to stay there instead of moving?

Because there’s never been a reason to move. I feel protected here.

After I won The X Factor, my neighbours could have quite easily said: ‘Oh, Sam Bailey lives on this street’, but they didn’t, they protected me, which is so nice.

If I moved, I’d just be moving to conform to everybody’s expectations, but that’s not me.

What changes have you made to your home?

We had a wraparound extension, with a garage and a utility room put on the side of the house.

We also installed a downstairs bathroom, two extra bedrooms upstairs, in the loft, a new kitchen and big bi-folding doors that lead to the back garden.

Tell me about the bar you built in your back garden

It’s great. We built it last year, just before summer. It gets used for everything — GCSE revision, movie nights, football nights, curry nights, pub nights and Sunday lunches. When life goes back to normal, we’re going to host poker nights.

When lockdown rules have allowed, we’ve had 14 people in there, but you could probably fit in about 20 people.

What advice would you give to people who aspire to own their own home?

Find out what you want first and always look at the floor plan, because if you’re looking for a property and you look at the floor plan, there could be ways of knocking down walls to make the house how you want it.

Do you see yourself living in the home in five to ten years’ time?

Yes, I do. It’s not the right time to move because just the mere mention of moving is like the world has ended to my 12-year-old autistic son. I don’t think he’d be able to handle us moving because he doesn’t like change.

I would like to buy another house but rent this one out. It would be hard to let go of this house completely by selling it because there is too much love and many great memories here. But I won’t move until we find something that makes me go, ‘oh my gosh, that’s my dream home!’

My dream is to have a back garden that’s like the size of a little park and hang on to it so that when my children have kids, they’ll always want to come over to nanny’s house because she’s got a cool garden.

Do you have a holiday home?

At the minute, our ‘pub’ is our holiday home because that’s where we go to get away from the house. But as for a real holiday home, I don’t know if I would get one, because I really do quite like the home I’ve got to be honest.

Sam Bailey dropped by Syco 14 months after X Factor win

Winner of 2013’s TV competition has parted ways with Simon Cowell’s label after releasing one album

Sam Bailey has been dropped by Syco, Simon Cowell’s record label, just 14 months after winning The X Factor .

The singer, who beat Nicholas McDonald and Luke Friend to win the show’s tenth series in December 2013, signed to the music mogul’s label following her triumph on the singing show. A label source told the Daily Mail that she has since parted ways with the label: “Everyone wishes Sam all the best for the future. After discussion, it was just felt it was the right time to follow different paths.”

With her cover of Demi Lovato’s Skyscraper, Bailey won the race for Christmas No 1 in 2014, selling twice as many copies as Pharrell Williams’ Happy that week.

Her debut album, which was almost entirely covers of popular ballads, was named The Power of Love. It sold about 73,000 copies in just seven days of its release.

The series in which Sam Bailey won X Factor saw a record low number of people tune in to watch the final - with Cowell absent from the judging panel.

Album The Power of Love

Story of song.

“Skyscraper” was originally written for Demi Lovato, inspired by a picture of the apocalypse. The picture featured a single skyscraper standing amongst all the ruins in the aftermath. Kerli Koiv told Seventeen that: “The world was in ruins and in the middle of all the collapsed buildings was one skyscraper still standing tall. It was slightly raining and the first rays of sun were starting to shine through thick clouds of smoke. I was actually feeling amazing when I wrote it. It came from a really empowered place. I come from a very small place in Eastern Europe so my whole life has kind of been one big fight to live my dream against all odds. But I think it’s hard to be human in general –—we all have our own struggles and things to overcome.”  Kerli also said in regards to what kind of feelings girls should have when they listen to the song that: “I think the lyrics say it already. You can hit the lowest low and face the darkest dark, but you can always get back up and get in the light.” Demi Lovato had personal struggles at the time, causing her to deeply relate to the song. When Prison Guard Sam Bailey won the tenth season of The X Factor , she released a cover of “Skyscraper” as her winner’s single. Sam told the Leicester Mercury that: “I love the lyrics to ‘Skyscraper,’ that no matter how they put you down, you can still reach for your dreams.  It is the story of my X Factor journey, how I was singing for years and no-one batted an eyelid.”  Demi Lovato reached out to Sam Bailey after her win, tweeting “Congratulations @SamBaileyREAL on winning X Factor UK!! Love your version of Skyscraper!”
