The California congress declared the San Pedro Bay as the official port for Los Angeles in 1897 and it continues to be a major international seaport. That serves as a must see for maritime enthusiasts and seafood lovers.

Angels gate lighthouse.

Guiding ships into the port since 1913 the Angels Gate Lighthouse has been uniquely designed on a 40 foot concrete pillar to help it withstand the roughest seas.

Cabrillo Beach Pier

Built in 1969, just Inside the north end of the Los Angeles harbor breakwater is the Cabrillo beach pier. The pier goes 1,200 into the harbor and is the only public pier in the area. It is a local favorite for fishing and educational purposes.

SS Lane Victory

A national treasure, this military cargo ship served in World War ll, the Korean War, and the Vietnam war. Thanks to the United States Merchant Marine Veterans of World War II the ship was restored to its former glory and is not only a nationally recognized historic landmark, but it is also a living museum and memorial to Merchant Marine sailors and Navy Armed Guardsmen.

A recent addition to San Pedro, the new Space X location is where they plan to research, design and manufacture spacecrafts with the goal of sending people to Mars. If guests are lucky they can see the rocket booster being supported by a crane.

The Vincent Thomas Bridge

Opened in 1963, the Vincent Thomas Bridge is a 1,500-foot-long suspension bridge linking San Pedro with Terminal Island. To this day it remains the only suspension bridge in the Greater Los Angeles area.

The bridge is also spectacular at night. From dusk to midnight illuminates the sky with its 160 solar powered led lights.

The Los Angeles Maritime Museum (Former municipal ferry terminal building)

See the beautiful former Municipal Ferry Terminal Building. Built in 1941, by the architect Derwood Lydell Irvin the building is a classic example of the Art Deco’s streamline moderne architecture.

Ralph J. Scott (fireboat)

Ms. Ralph Scott is a National Historic Landmark. This fireboat is 100-foot (30 m) long and can pump 17,000 US gallons per minute. She retired in 2003 after 78 years of service.

The Battleship USS Iowa

Built in 1943, SS Iowa (BB-61) was the lead ship of the last class of the U.S. Navy battleships to be built by the United States. The battleship served during World War II, the Korean War, and through the Cold War. Iowa earned 11 battle stars during her career and hosted three U.S. Presidents, ultimately earning the nicknames Battleship of Presidents and Big Stick. Today it is located at the former home to the US Navy Pacific fleet and is a point of pride for the San Pedro community, as well as a maritime museum.

Point Fermin Lighthouse

Thanks to dedication of local businessman Phineas Banning, the Point Fermin Lighthouse was the first navigation light in the San Pedro Bay. Built in 1874, the building is in the Victorian Stick Style.

Ports O’Call Village (San Pedro Public Market - Coming Soon)

A quaint seaside plaza with activities and eateries built in 1963. In 2017, the city sold the rights to a new developer who tore down the iconic village and is planning to have a new San Pedro Public Market , which will open in 2022.

This craft marketplace is located in classic World War II-era waterside warehouses and has a plethora of one-of-a kind treasures made by local artisans.

Things to do Around San Pedro

Ride the la waterfront trolley.

Take a ride on the free San Pedro Trolley. Hop on and off at popular convenient locations such as downtown San Pedro, the Maritime Museum, Battleship IOWA, San Pedro Fish Market, Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles, and Brouwerij West.

First Thursday Art Walk (1st Thursday of the month)

Starting at 5pm galleries and restaurants entertain the community. Open until 9 p.m. Most of the participants are located on 4th St. to 7th St., and from Pacific Ave. to Palos Verdes St.

The Los Angeles Maritime Museum

The largest maritime museum on the west coast, the Los Angeles Maritime museum opened in 1979 as an effort of the community to save the historic building after the Vincent Saint Thomas was built and the ferry deemed no longer needed.

The museum has exhibits on everything from the history of commercial diving in Los Angeles to chronicles the once thriving San Pedro fishing industry. The museum also operates the tugboat Angels Gate, built in 1944 for the Army Transportation Service.

The USS Iowa

As one of the most accessible Battleship museums, the USS Iowa has award-winning interactive experience for individuals, families, groups. It’s an excellent opportunity to have a better understanding of the hardships American women and men had to endure in the US Navy.

Cabrillo Beach

This local beach is unique in that it has two sides. One side of the beach is connected to the harbor and while the other has access to the that’s open to the surf.

Cabrillo Marine Aquarium

Displaying the largest collection of Southern California marine life in the world. This aquarium was designed by Frank Gehry and is the perfect place to enjoy the interactive exhibits, tidepool touch tanks and other unforgettable attractions.

Since the tear down of Ports o´Call Village 22nd St. Landing is the only restaurant in the San Pedro waterfront area that can handle groups. Operating for over 30 years the restaurant has two banquet areas that look over the water. It is a delicious option that is located right near the burial at sea pickup / drop off location.

Hoping to transport you to a southern france, Compagnon Wine Bistro pays tribute to the classic French bistros. Where good food, good wine and friends come together. Enjoy delicious local and seasonal products in your favorite french dishes.

Approximately two minutes from the burial at sea pickup dock Pappy’s is a delicious local seafood restaurant that has a special event space called the rendezvous room which can accommodate a private group up to 50. Pappy’s Rendezvous Room first opened in 1946 and served as a lounge, and speakeasy for the fine people of San Pedro ever since.

Today Pappy’s Rendezvous Room is a full-service lounge, private dining experience, and event space featuring a discreet entrance, private restrooms, and curated entertainment options. Original marble flooring and rich, navy wood-paneled walls create a classic, refined backdrop for private events, both big and small.

San Pedro Brewing Co.

A San Pedro Stable since 1999, this brewing company has it all. Offering delicious americana dining, with fresh award winning ales and lager that are brewed on the premises. Also be sure to check out their calendar, which is chocked full of great live entertainment.

Brouwerij West

This tasting room and beer garden venue is inside a warehouse that was built for the Navy during World War ll. They have not only a plethora of beers, but also events, with regular food trucks set up to appease all taste types. 

San Pedro Fish Market

Get your hands dirty and pick out some delicious seafood. San Pedro Fish Market has been named 5th Most Instagrammed restaurant in the US. Pick your fish fresh off the ice and pay per pound, but then have it cooked for free any way you like (BBQ, deep fired, sauteed, ext.) before you sit down. Don't worry about finding a place to sit because this 50,000 square foot waterfront venue has more than 3000 seats.

Cave Tubing & Zip lining

On this all day tour we start the day picking you up at 7AM and taking an 1 Hour boat ride to the mainland where we stop and have breakfast then we take a 45 minutes van ride to our zip line location. After ziplining we have lunch then we take a 30min hike where we go to do our cave tubing and jump in our tube with a guide guiding us through the cave. On this all day tour we start by picking you up at 8:30 and head up north and stop at Bacalar Chico visiting center where we get some info of marine life from there we cruise through the mangrove river where the mayan dug out. Free Harbor Boat Tours Return to the Port of Los Angeles

SAN PEDRO, Calif. – July 14, 2022 – The Port of Los Angeles will offer free harbor boat tours of Los Angeles Harbor on Saturday, July 30. Tours will depart every 30 minutes from the Los Angeles Maritime Museum, located at 6th Street and Harbor Boulevard in San Pedro, beginning at 10:30 a.m. with the last tour departing at 3 p.m.

Reservations are not required. Tours will be available on a first-come, first served basis. Wheelchair-accessible boarding is available at the dock.

Visitors will experience 60-minute narrated tours that include up-close views of active vessels, container terminals and the bustling Los Angeles Main Channel, home of the nation’s busiest container port.

Additionally, three boat tours will be designated as “dog-friendly” to accommodate well- socialized and behaved, leashed dogs. Dog-friendly tours depart at 11 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m.

Public boat tours are returning after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19 restrictions. Due to construction of the Wilmington Waterfront Promenade, tours departing from Wilmington are unavailable this year. Tours will depart from San Pedro only.

Free visitor parking is available along 5th Street, just off Harbor Blvd.

The Los Angeles Maritime Museum is open to the public from noon to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday. Donations are suggested for admission and masks are required for entry.

Fireboat #2

The dramatic, award-winning building of Fire Station #112 was designed to shelter the Ralph J. Scott, a national historic landmark, while allowing for viewing by visitors. Commissioned in 1925, the classic fireboat is 99 feet long with a 19 foot beam; its six four-stage pumps produce 10,200 gallons of water per minute. The Ralph J. Scott was retired in 2003 and now sits up in a cradle behind Fire Station 112 in San Pedro. The Port of Los Angeles is planning to develop a new facility to house the restored vessel.

The new 105-foot Fireboat #2 was dedicated on April 12, 2003. It is the world’s most powerful fireboat. The new Fireboat #2 was designed by Robert Allan Ltd. in Vancouver, B.C., and built by Nichols Brothers Boat Builders of Freeland, Washington. Fireboat #2 features the most modern marine firefighting technology, a medical treatment area, powerful engines and the fortitude to stand up to 24-hour use.

Fire Station 112 has exhibits on the history of L.A. fireboats, and Fireboat #2 in particular, explaining the construction and varied uses of this most unusual vessel. No charge.

Refund policy.

We do not offer refunds on deposits made with us for Over Night Charters.  

Deposits are typically 50% of the total amount of the trip (unless other arrangements have been made with us personally).

Once a security deposit is made, we "lock in" your time for your vacation with us.

These are Trips of a Lifetime and so when you confirm with deposit, you are booked, we are set to go!

If there are extenuating circumstances, we will do everything we can to assist with rebooking at no charge.  This is at the discretion of Xsite Belize Sailing & Adventures.

We hope that Guests understand there are only limited weeks of busy travel in a year & "busy season is busy season".  We only have so many boats for Guests to use during that time, so we depend on Guests to honor their reservations with us.

We will do our best to reschedule if there is a conflict and something we can change. 

Due to Covid, we will reschedule trips for future dates for free/no problem.

Day Trips and Excursions have a 24 hour cancelation policy will have a 50% processing fee for the tour not taken.

Trips cancelled within 7 days have a 25% processing fee for the tour not taken.

If Guest do not show up to take their trip or excursion with us that is a "No Show" and no refunds will be given to a no show.  

That is not a cancellation.

 *No refunds for no-shows or unused portions of accommodations or packages. 

There will be no refunds due to airline delays, strikes, political unrest or Acts of God, including Hurricanes.

We are not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged goods, luggage or possessions.*

Fire destroyed a 40-foot boat docked at the San Pedro harbor Thursday, ultimately sinking the vessel, but no serious injuries were reported.

The fire occurred around 1:45 p.m. in Berth 42, and 40 arriving firefighters found the boat with active flames, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange.

It took 20 minutes for firefighters to extinguish the flames, which were prevented from spreading to nearby vessels.

“Unfortunately, the damage had already been done, and the vessel wound up sinking after the flames were extinguished,” Prange said in a statement.

Two people were assessed by paramedics at the scene, but both declined to be taken to a hospital.

What may have sparked the fire was unclear, and the cause was under investigation.

Eight passengers stranded on African island after Norwegian cruise ship left without them

A dream cruise vacation has turned into a nightmare for eight passengers left stranded on the African island of São Tomé and Príncipe after their ship left without them because they were late to return from a private tour.

The tourists — six from the U.S. and two from Australia — were aboard the Norwegian Dawn, a Norwegian cruise line ship , which departed from Cape Town, South Africa, on March 20 for a 21-day voyage up the coast of Africa set to end in Barcelona, Spain, on April 10.

But on Wednesday, the group of eight tourists was late to return to the ship by more than an hour for the all-aboard time of 3 p.m. from a private excursion on the island, which was not organized by the cruise line.

Jay and Jill Campbell of South Carolina were part of the group that was left behind.

They said that their tour’s operator notified the cruise captain that they were going to be late to rejoin the ship and that the local Coast Guard tried to get them on the vessel but that they weren’t allowed to board.

As a result, the couple and the rest of the group have been stranded for days on the island off Nigeria, grappling with language, currency issues and complicated travel to catch up with the ship.

“The lovely people of São Tomé were very gracious, very hospitable. They had reached out as much as they could to help us find hotels,” Jay Campbell said on NBC's "TODAY" show Tuesday morning.

“We were able to get to a tour agency there to arrange flights to the next port of call. ... Very difficult process — you’re dealing with multiple languages, language barriers, you’re dealing with different currencies ... finding someone that even has dollars ... trying to get an agent to understand where we need to get to.

"It’s one of those ‘You can’t get there from here,’" he added.

A Norwegian spokesperson called the incident a “very unfortunate situation” and said, “Guests are responsible for ensuring they return to the ship at the published time.”

The cruise line said that after the guests failed to return, their passports were delivered to local port agents, in line with protocol. The company said it was working with local authorities to understand “the requirements and visas needed for the guests to reboard the ship at the next available port of call.”

On Monday, the guests had made arrangements to rejoin the ship in Banjul, Gambia, but the ship was unable to safely dock there because of “adverse weather conditions” and “tidal restrictions,” Norwegian said. The guests were then contacted and provided with information to rejoin the ship at Dakar, Senegal, on Tuesday. 

Jill Campbell said they traveled through seven countries in 48 hours to arrive in Senegal on Monday night.

But the couple was reconsidering whether they even wanted to return to the cruise.

"We are considering whether or not we are going to board the ship. It is in dock here in Senegal," she said. "We believe there was a basic duty of care that they had forgotten about, so it does concern us."

"After what we witnessed, we truly believe that although there’s a set of rules or policies that the ship may have followed, they followed those rules too rigidly. I believe that they really forgot that they are people working in the hospitality industry and really the safety and well-being of the customers should be their first priority," she added.

Ultimately, the eight passengers did rejoin the cruise before 8:30 a.m. ET Tuesday in Dakar, Senegal, Norwegian told NBC News in an e-mail Tuesday evening, after this story originally published.

Norwegian said the passengers were responsible for making their own travel arrangements to rejoin the ship.

"Despite the series of unfortunate events outside of our control, we will be reimbursing these eight guests for their travel costs from Banjur, Gambia to Dakar, Senegal," a cruise line spokesperson said in a statement. "We remain in communication with the guests and are providing additional information as it becomes available."

A silver lining of the catastrophe was that the Campbells were able to connect with another Norwegian Dawn passenger — Julia Lenkoff, 80 — who was also left on the island, but for a medical reason.

Lenkoff was on a different day tour Wednesday. She had "medically disembarked" from the cruise to seek local treatment on that day, Norwegian said.

Norwegian said that its care team tried to call Lenkoff several times and was unable to reach her and that it worked with its port agent in São Tomé and Príncipe for updates on her health.

The Campbells met Lenkoff and were able to put her in contact with her family in California, who flew her home — a move Lenkoff's daughter said "saved her life."

"She's a world traveler. She travels all the time. So this was going to be one of her bucket list trips, because she's been to 120 countries so far, and she wanted to get to 130," her daughter, Lana Lenkoff Geis, said in an interview that aired Tuesday on "TODAY."

Norwegian said Lenkoff was escorted on a flight to Lisbon, Portugal, then put in the care of airport staff members to continue her journey back to the U.S., where she has safely returned.
