Island Routes Caribbean Adventures reserves the right at any time, at our sole discretion; to change or otherwise modify these Terms without prior notice, and your continued access or use of this Website signifies your acceptance of the updated or modified contents.

All prices listed in this Website are in U.S. Dollars, unless otherwise specified. Promotions listed in this Website can be changed or withdrawn at any time.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Flexible: full refund within a limited period.

For cancellations by Guests, cancellation charges depend on when Island Routes receives notice of the cancellation. Minimum cancellation charges are as follows:

Hotel Guests:

24 hours or less: No Refund

48 hours or less: 50% Cancellation Fee

96 hours or less: 25% Cancellation Fee

96+ hours: Full Refund

Shore Excursions:

96 hours or more: Full Refund

Less than 96 hours: No Refund

G r oup Reservations:

60 days prior to tour date: Full Refund

45 days prior to tour date: 50% Cancellation Fee

30 days prior to tour date: 75% Cancellation fee

Less than 30 days prior to tour date: No Refund

All cancellations of, or changes are subject to applicable restrictions. Island Routes Tours will apply any payments made toward the purchase price against any cancellation charges and will refund any balance remaining after the payment of any charges. In order to receive a refund, if applicable, client must request and receive a cancellation confirmation number. The cancellation charges outlined above are liquidated damages and not a penalty. Holiday periods may be subject to additional cancellation charges. NO REFUNDS OR ADJUSTMENTS WILL BE MADE FOR ANY PORTION OF TOUR OR ATTENDANT SERVICES NOT UTILIZED.

Refund Policy: No refunds or adjustments will be made for any portion of your tour not utilized.

Changes to Reservations: All requested changes to reservations are subject to Island Routes' sole discretion, and any changes must be approved in writing.

NO UNLAWFUL OR PROHIBITED USE

PREPAID TOUR & EXCURSION RESERVATIONS

By reserving your tour and excursion, you authorize Island Routes Caribbean Adventures to book reservations for the total reservation price. You agree that your credit card will be charged by Island Routes Caribbean Adventures for the total reservation price.

BANK & CREDIT CARD FEES

Some banks and credit cards impose fees for cross-border transactions. By reserving your tour and excursion on this website, you may see an additional cost/fee appearing on your credit card statement. This fee is solely determined by your Bank and/or Credit Card Company and Island Routes Caribbean Adventures takes no responsibility for these associated costs. If you have any questions about these types of fees applied to your reservation, please contact your bank directly.

Sunisland Routes and/or Island Routes Tours, and the hotel, do not operate the tours, and for these purposes, the Operators of tours are independent contractors. Guest HEREBY ACKNOWLEDGES AND AGREES that Sunisland Routes and/or Island Routes Tours, and the hotel, their parent corporation, affiliates, subsidiaries, insurers, directors, officers, employees, successors, assigns, agents or representatives, SHALL NOT BE LIABLE to Guest for liabilities, claims, actions, damages, cost or expense in any circumstances, for: (A) ANY PERSONAL INJURIES OR PROPERTY DAMAGE ARISING OUT OF OR CAUSED BY ANY ACT OR OMISSION ON THE PART OF ANY Guest(s) and/or Operators of tours, excluding tours identified as being owned by Sunisland Routes and/or Island Routes Tours; (B) EMOTIONAL DISTRESS, MENTAL SUFFERING, OR PSYCHOLOGICAL INJURY OF ANY KIND; OR (C) ANY CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, PUNITIVE OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES. This specifically includes but is not limited to liabilities, claims, actions, damages, cost or expense ARISING OUT OF OR CAUSED BY food or drink consumed at third party facilities belonging to third party Operators of tours.

SPECIAL REQUESTS

Sunisland Routes and/or Island Routes Tours cannot guarantee that it will satisfy special requests and we are not responsible if such requests are not met.

PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

Persons with Disabilities: Sunisland Routes and/or Island Routes Tours cannot guarantee that transfer vehicles or tour sites are wheelchair accessible. However, if informed, we will endeavor to make the necessary arrangements. This may however come at an additional cost.

USE OF GUEST'S LIKENESS

The undersigned Guest(s) irrevocably consents to and authorizes the use and reproduction by Sunisland Routes and/or Island Routes, or anyone authorized by Island Routes, of any and all photographic, video and other visual portrayal(s) of the undersigned Guest(s), their child or ward, for any purpose whatsoever, including but not limited to use in magazines, brochures, flyers, television, internet, and websites displays without further reference or compensation. All rights, title and interest therein (including all worldwide copyrights therein) shall be the sole property of Sunisland Routes and/or Island Routes, or anyone authorized by Island Routes, free from any claims by the undersigned Guest(s) and or any person deriving any rights or interest from such Guest, AND each undersigned Guest(s) UNDERSTANDS AND HEREBY KNOWINGLY AND VOLUNTARILY SO AGREES.

COMPLIANCE WITH LOCAL LAW

Guest is responsible for knowing, obeying and complying with the laws and regulations of their destination, and neither Sunisland Routes and/or Island Routes Tours, nor any Tour Supplier, nor the hotel, has any duty to inform or warn Guest about the destination's laws and/or regulations.

This agreement is governed by the laws of Jamaica. You hereby consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of courts in Jamaica, in all disputes arising out of or relating to the use of this Website. Use of this Website is unauthorized in any jurisdiction that does not give effect to all provisions of these terms and conditions, including, without limitation, this paragraph.

You agree that no joint venture, partnership, employment, or agency relationship exists between you and Island Routes Caribbean Adventures as a result of this agreement or use of this Web site.

Sandals Ochi: A Resort Full of Choices!

Sandals Ochi, an adult-only all-inclusive resort in Jamaica's Ocho Rios, is a prime location for exploring Jamaica's nearby adventures, but also has plenty of activity onsite to never even leave the resort!

The resort is split into two sections with different personalities, almost feeling like two resorts in one.  The Hillside is comprised of the Great House Village and the Butler Village, and has a luxurious feeling with most of the butler rooms located here.   The Seaside section is closest to the beach and is comprised of the Riviera Beachfront Tower, Riviera Seaside Village, and Ochi Beach Club.   Most of the rooms are luxury or concierge rooms, although there are a few butler suites in this area as well.  Both sections have restaurants, pools, a spa, and entertainment.  Ochi Beach Club doesn't have any rooms, but surrounds a lovely beach cove.  A shuttle runs regularly between the Hillside and Seaside sections for easy transportation.

Sandals Ochi has rooms for all kinds of couples at various price points, making it a great option for both the budget-conscious couple as well as the couple looking to splurge on a special occasion.  One of my favorites is the Romeo & Juliet Sanctuary One-Bedroom Villa Suite with Private Pool in the Butler Village.  It is the ultimate choice for luxury and privacy, and a great option to consider for a honeymoon or anniversary.

Not only can you celebrate your honeymoon or anniversary at Sandals Ochi, but you can even have your wedding or retie the knot ceremony here.  With a stay of 3 nights or more, a basic wedding is even included for free!  However, the overwater wedding chapel is a dream wedding setting for only an additional $750.00 (at the time of this blog)!

With 16 restaurants and 11 bars onsite, there are plenty of options to quench your appetite and thirst at Sandals Ochi. From casual eateries with pizza and burgers to buffets and elegant dining, there really is something for every palate. Four restaurants require reservations, which you can make once you get to the resort.  Kelly's Dockside has a lovely location out on the water and is a great one to consider for a sunset dinner.  Soy is also a must if you like sushi and is a popular option for appetizers before a dinner reservation at Kimonos...or anywhere, really!  I highly recommend getting a Club or Butler Level room so you can add room service to your dining options as well!

There is not a shortage of things to do while you are at Sandals Ochi.  Entertainment options onsite include a piano bar, outdoor movies, themed nights with shows (Carnival Beach Party, anyone?), and The Rabbit Hole, the Caribbean's only speakeasy!  You'll have to learn the password to enter...and it changes daily!

Watersports and land sports are both included, and there are a lot of great options from rock climbing to snorkeling, and even scuba diving!  If you are certified, you can dive daily at no extra cost.  If you are new to scuba, you can learn to dive for a small fee.

Golf green fees and transportation are also included at the Sandals Golf & Country Club, which is a short drive away.  It is a gorgeous golf course with friendly staff, and the clubhouse is brand new!

If you want to have some adventures offsite, there are many excursions available which you can book ahead of time or even during your trip.  Options include everything from a catamaran cruise to hiking Dunn's River Falls and so much more.

Sandals Ochi is a resort full of choices.  You can have private luxury or a lively beach setting.  You can choose from a large assortment of dining, entertainment, and activity options....or you can do nothing at all!

Sandals Ochi Excursions in Jamaica

Although every Sandals all-inclusive resort has tons of complimentary activities onsite, you’ll probably also want to explore what the area has to offer. That’s where Sandals excursions come in. They cost extra but are super easy to arrange through the resort.

You can book Sandal’s excursions online via the Sandals website after you’ve made your reservation, or once you get to the resort. If there’s something you really want to do, we recommend booking it in advance just to be safe.

But what excursions does Sandals offer? They are different at each Sandals resort. In this article, we’ll discuss Sandals Ochi excursions in Jamaica , so read on to learn more.

Excursions at Sandals Ochi, Jamaica

The Caribbean island of Jamaica offers natural beauty, white sand beaches, clear and warm waters, and tons of activities, making it a very popular romantic and honeymoon destination .

Whether you want to party or have a bit of privacy, Sandals Ochi is one of 7 all-inclusive Sandals resorts in Jamaica that offers the best of both worlds.

There are a lot of things to do in Jamaica, so you’ll have a wide variety of excursions to choose from. Sandals Ochi excursions are all managed by Island Routes, but you book and pay through Sandals.

Sandals Ochi excursions include river rafting, shopping in Ocho Rios, ziplining and river tubing, hiking and waterfall tours, ATV tours, deep sea fishing, historic and cultural tours, catamaran cruises, biking and dune buggy tours, horseback riding on the beach, and more. There is also a dolphin encounter experience. While we do not feel good about dolphins in captivity, it is available.

We went on multiple Sandals Ochi excursions during our visit there. We recommend not trying to fit in more than two activities in one day. Dunn’s River Falls is a lot of fun. Going on the catamaran excursion is the preferred way to go, but you can also go with a ziplining or other activity combination.

River tubing and visiting the Blue Hole was really fun as well. ATVs here are not great, as there is too much transportation time and waiting for a short ride. We also don’t recommend the horseback rides for the same reason.

The Luminous Lagoon is also pretty far for what you get. We didn’t do the Rastafarian experience, but lots of people like it.

Let’s take a look at some of the Sandals Ochi excursions in more detail.

Bamboo River Rafting & Swamp Safari

For a unique experience, relax on a bamboo raft as your captain guides you down the beautiful Martha Brae River in the rainforest. You’ll also get to see rare birds in Jamaica’s largest walk-through aviary, as well as exotic animals like peacocks, whistling ducks, and kinkajou.

Rose Hall Great House Night Experience

This slightly spooky Sandals Ochi excursion takes you through the historic plantation, home to Jamaica’s “White Witch,” on a candle-lit tour complete with storytelling. End the tour in the dungeon, which is now a pub.

Bob Marley Reggae and Culture Tour

This Sandals Ochi excursion takes you to Nine Mile, Bob Marley’s birthplace, where you learn all about the reggae music legend. You’ll also enjoy beautiful scenery in St. Ann and a delicious authentic Jamaican jerk lunch.

Sandals Ochi Resort Review For 2024

The Sandals Ochi Beach Resort is a special destination that offers the perfect balance between adventure, indulgence, and romance. This one completely transcended my “ordinary” idea of what a resort is like.

It’s a culinary having with over a dozen restaurants, an enchanting ambiance, swimming pools to scuba diving, and breathtaking accommodations. While it sure isn’t short on opulence, there really is something for every taste and budget.

I was actually surprised at how much I received for the price, not even taking into consideration the world-class service and amenities I was able to take advantage of!

The enormous 110-acre all-inclusive is understandably a hot sport for weddings and honeymoons, yet it’s the perfect location to celebrate any partnership. It may be just 5 minutes from downtown Ocho Rios, but it’s located on a private beach immersing you in paradise.

Located in Ocho Rios, Jamaica it’s nestled amidst a whopping 100 acres of tropical beauty, the resort just exudes a fascinating atmosphere – from the rolling green hills to the pristine beaches. Needless to say, it is the biggest Sandals resort in all of the Caribbean, overlooking the postcard-perfect sea.

To make it a bit easier to navigate, it’s split into two sides with a road running between the two halves. Jitneys operate between the two lobbies almost all day and night, so it’s not a hassle to get around.

Without the jitneys, it’s simply too risky for pedestrians to be crossing as the road is very busy. They also do a great job of booking wedding parties together so you’re not all running back and forth to each other’s rooms.

I am so grateful for their convenient shuttle service to and from the airport, as well! The Montego Bay airport is about 1.5 hours from the resort, so all you have to do when you go through immigration after arriving is head to the Sandals booth and they’ll get you sorted out.

The Sandals Ochi Beach resort comes with an impressive 529 rooms, which caters to couples, honeymooners, and those who are just married. Remember how I said that the resort was split into two sides? The rooms are on the seaside, and the luxury villas with Butler service are on the hillside.

The villas are a bit longer of a drive and spread out behind the Great House, but with the jitneys, it’s not a problem.

Each of the rooms features a kind of elegant colonial-style decor with dark woods and sleek neutral colors. Each comes with a 4-poster bed with white linens, along with AC, a 40″ LED flat screen, fully-stocked minibars and fridges, coffeemakers (thank goodness), microwaves, an amenities kit, and either a patio or balcony.

While not every single one comes with a water view, I did select the Riviera Seaside section which does include beachside vistas. They come in various categories from the standard Riviera Bamboo Grove Deluxe, all the way to the Villas and Beachfront Butler Suites.

Another fantastic option on the other side is the All-Butler Village, with suites in the Great House along with the option of various poolside villas. I was tempted to reserve one of the villas as they looked quite private and quiet, but you do share a pool with 3 other units, which could be the opposite of that.

The Best Time to Visit Sandals Ochi

Jamaica boasts a consistently nice climate, making it a year-round haven for adventurers. My preferred times to visit are during the dry and idyllic periods from July to August and December to April.

November and December offer temperatures ranging from 80 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit, perfect for a holiday escape. Keep in mind, though, that mid-December to April tends to attract larger crowds. For those who can handle the heat, June to August is prime time, and despite some additional rainfall in June, it’s the best overall climate with fewer tourists.

If you’re on a budget, the rainy season from May to November offers incredible deals on accommodations and flights, and the rain is generally a gentle drizzle rather than a downpour. Personally, I’m a fan of Jamaica no matter the season. The climate is rarely extreme in any way.

What’s Included at Sandals Ochi

With 100+ acres at your disposal, you likely won’t even have enough time to try all of the features and activities included here! I certainly tried to, putting the limitless scuba diving and tennis courts to good use.

If you’ve never been scuba diving before, I can’t recommend taking advantage of this enough. They actually have professional, certified scuba instructors there to take you out and show you everything!

In addition, there are plenty of other water and land-based activities (more on that further down), from billiards to beach parties to enjoy!

As this is a romantic environment, I loved the fact that they included sparkling wine, unlimited Robert Mondavi Twin Oaks wines, as well as fresh fruit throughout our stay. Top-shelf liquors are no added costs, and I loved the bars that offer unlimited cocktails and beverages. I didn’t even have to leave the room to enjoy the food and dinks, as room service is free and tips are prohibited (except for butlers)!

Pools – It’s crazy to think about, but Sandals Ochi has an impressive 105 swimming pools! Of all of them, The Manor Pool is the biggest, with 3 different levels. I find this is a great meeting place, as you can take a dip, relax in the submerged sun loungers, and even enjoy the firepit that’s literally a part of the pools! Not to mention the swim-up bar with friendly bartenders.

There are 4 whirlpools at the Ochi Beach and Riviera sections, but the Butler Village also comes with private pools for every few villas.

Fitness Center – The state-of-the-art fitness center is open 24 hours a day, so you can always fit in a workout. The machines are all from Life Fitness, along with Cybex, stairclimbers, treadmills, free weights, exercise bikes, ellipticals, and aerobic classes

Business Center – The resort comes with a very clean and modern business center complete with various computers and a printer, along with 4 meeting rooms that hold 500 people.

Spa – The spa treatments here are simply phenomenal, but they do come at an extra cost. It’s a great way to spend time together with your significant other, and you’ll be ready afterward to enjoy all those water sports!

Snorkeling – Snorkeling here is simply amazing, with clear waters and white sand. It’s very easy to get started and see an impressive array of sea creatures!

Kayaking/Paddle Boarding – Whether you choose kayaking or paddle boarding, you’ll be able to see the ocean from another perspective while getting in a workout! The “below the sea” type kayaks are very unique, and offer an even better view of the coral and other sea critters below.

Sailing – Glass bottom boats are included, offering a visual experience not often seen on a sailing experience. I found this to be a more relaxing way to explore, as we weren’t working out or focusing on staying balanced!

Scuba Diving – Unlimited snorkeling is offered at Ochi, with professional instruction included, and use of top-notch equipment. See tropical fish, reefs, and much more through the clear waters. Complimentary Newton Dive Boats will take you out to the best spots for seeing the sealife!

Water skiing/Wakeboarding – I’m a huge fan of board sports, but hadn’t tried either water skiing or wakeboarding out until my trip to Ochi. With pro-level Mastercraft boats to tow you around and professional instructors, you’re in good hands!

Tennis & Golfing – This is simply one of my favorite golf courses, with 18 holes and gorgeous views. The par-71 course even includes mountain and pristine sea vistas. There are both tennis courts outdoors and table tennis if you’re looking for a closer-distance game.

Wedding Accommodations

This is one of the most amazing places to hold a wedding, with huge spaces for the event itself, as well as the breathtaking overwater Serenity Wedding Chapel. There is enough room for even the biggest wedding parties, and after the ceremony, you can all enjoy the first speakeasy in all of the Caribbean: The Rabbit Hole!

The weddings here are so much fun to go to, as everything is taken care of and the staff always thinks of everything. Not to mention, the beautiful seaside views are simply unmatchable!

Pros of Sandals Ochi Resort

Located on a large, private beach near downtown Ocho Rios – it’s easy to access from downtown while still offering the privacy you can expect from an upscale resort.

• Romantic, adults-only – this is ideal if you want to avoid resorts with children or excess noise.
• Spacious, upscale rooms with various options – some of the rooms come with optional butler service, while many come with picturesque ocean views.
• All-inclusive rates – include unlimited meals and snacks at 16 restaurants, as well as room service and alcohol
• Many outdoor pools – with some including swim-up bars – the property offers a whopping 105 pools, 22 whirlpools, and plenty of space.

Cons of Sandals Ochi Resort

• Massive size – Property can be confusing to get around – it can be rather challenging to navigate, given the massive property size
• 1.5 hours from the airport – while it could be even further away, the 90-minute drive can be a bit of a hassle
• Beach – The beach is a bit small when you take into consideration just how huge the property is.

Not at all! It is adults-only, which just offers a bit more relaxation without worrying about having kids around.

It is private, so you can expect a very clean beach with plenty of lounging chairs and allocated sections for swimming and catching some rays.

Not necessarily. It’s much more an upscale resort, however, don’t think that there’s not fun to be had! I had so much fun at the beach parties with the live music, and it was a great way to meet others from around the world.

White River, Blue Hole, Zipline & ATV Experience

This 4-hour tour is a fantastic way to see and enjoy the natural beauty of Jamaica, with professional guides leading the way! Start out at the infamous Blue Hole, where you’ll get to climb up waterfalls, jump into the crystal-blue swimming pools, and much more. After that, zip through the jungle canopy past the lush greenery and critters before heading down on the ground.

You’ll then make your way to a 17th-century Spanish Bridge to float the river on a tube, then dry off by zooming around on an ATV! After that, you’re sure to have worked up an appetite so enjoy authentic Jamaican Jerk and some drinks!

Taste of Jamaica Cooking Class and Estate Tour

Jamaica has some of the most delicious food in the world, as well as some of the most incredible natural scenery. Why not enjoy both in one perfectly arranged tour? With this one, you’ll be able to sit back and relax in a colonial-style Jitney Carriage (similar to the ones on the resort property) while they take you through a 1,000-acre estate. Listen to the sounds of the wheels, the birds chirping, and soak it all in before you dig into a dish of Jamaican Jerk Chicken!

You’ll not only get to taste it though – you’re going to help in creating it! This is a fantastic way to learn how to make the traditional dish and take those skills with you wherever you go. After, go on a casual walk through the bird aviary, where you’ll be able to see all kinds of local, tropical birds!

Luminous Lagoon Experience

If you already have a packed schedule, this is one of the best possible tours I could suggest. It’s an absolutely beautiful experience, that will really give you insight into the magic that Jamaica holds. Lasting just 35 minutes, you’ll get to go on a fascinating night cruise where you’ll get transported to the Luminous Lagoon. This lagoon is known worldwide for its countless microorganisms that emit a fascinating blue glow when touched!

Your guides are experts on the matter and know exactly where to go for you to see the highest concentrations. Enjoy this relaxing, smile-inducing cruise over the glowing blue waters and the cool nighttime air.

Lover’s Rock Catamaran Cruise Ocho Rios

Ochi is all about romance, and what better way to enjoy an evening than on a romantic sunset cruise on a catamaran with that someone special? Lasting 2.5 hours, it’s the perfect way to start off the night with some cocktails before coming back to land for some dinner at the resort. The catamaran is one of the most well-maintained, comfortable vessels I’ve had the pleasure of sailing on, and the service was top-notch.

While you sail along the picture-perfect waters, you’ll get to watch as the golden sunset covers the water in its red and yellow hues while sipping on all kinds of exotic cocktails! The appetizers are tasty, too!

While Sandals Ochi is among the cheapest Sandals Resorts , it’s not lacking in luxury or activities. The resort offers 25 excellent land tours and 14 sea tours.

The best land tour is the Horseback Beach Ride in Ocho Rios ($109 per adult). This tour takes guests on a relaxing beach ride with stunning ocean views.

The best sea tour is the Bamboo River Rafting on the Martha Brae River ($107 per adult). A 30-foot bamboo raft takes guests through a serene rainforest, allowing them to see wildlife and experience Jamaica’s natural beauty.

Sandals Royal Caribbean

With 52 tours and excursions, Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort has something for everyone. Land tours include everything from biking and hiking to exploring local markets, while sea tours range from snorkeling and sailing to sunset cruises.

The Blue Mountain Biking, Hiking, and Waterfall Tour from Montego Bay ($270 per adult) is the perfect way to explore the island’s natural beauty. The 2.2-mile hike to the top of Blue Mountain (the country’s highest peak) is not too challenging and rewards visitors with stunning views, and the biking and waterfall tour is the perfect way to cool off afterward.

The Taste of Jamaica Cooking Class and Estate Tour ($83 per adult) is one of the best of the land tours. Guests will take a relaxing ride on a Jitney Carriage through the 1,000-acre estate, get their hands dirty making Jamaican Jerk Chicken, and then stroll through a bird aviary after eating.

The Dolphin Royal Swim and Beach Break Ocho Rios ($253 per adult) is one of the best sea tours. Guests have the opportunity to swim with dolphins in the beautiful Caribbean waters. It’s an experience that you’ll never forget!

Sandals South Coast

At Sandals South Coast Resort, guests can choose from 14 land and nine sea excursions.

While all the tours are well worth taking, the Rick’s Cafe Sunset Experience ($65 per adult) is among the most popular. The Rick’s Café Sunset Experience is a land tour that takes guests to one of Jamaica’s most famous sunset spots, where they can enjoy a cocktail and watch the sun dip below the horizon. Sandals South Coast consistently rates as one of the best Sandals for honeymoons , and this add-on is an excellent way to make your stay even more romantic.

The Deep Sea Sport Fishing South Coast ($225 per adult) tour is a great way to catch some of Jamaica’s world-famous fish, including marlin, sailfish, and mahi-mahi.

Best Excursions at Sandals Saint Lucia Resorts

This adults-only, all-inclusive  Sandals resort in Ocho Rios, Jamaica , has both beachfront accommodations and digs secluded in the jungle. Situated amid the trees, the Riviera villas and Great House guest rooms feature wooden deck chairs that overlook 98 private or semi-private swimming pools. Every accommodation includes a king-sized bed, a plasma TV, Red Lane Spa toiletries and a private balcony or patio. Booking a room at this Sandals property grants you complimentary green fees at the nearby Sandals Golf & Country Club's 18-hole golf course, plus access to a Red Lane Spa. Overall, vacationers praise the property's friendly staff and highly recommend splurging for a room with butler service. However, many lamented the on-site dining venues. Although travelers have access to 16 eateries (plus five additional restaurants at nearby Sandals Royal Plantation ), many said the cuisine served at most of the dining outposts was not up to par. You probably know by now that we’re big fans of the Sandals family of resorts across the Caribbean.

If you read our last guide to Sandals Royal Plantation, you’ll know that one of the reasons we are such big fans of Royal Planation (one of Sandals smallest resorts at only 74 rooms) is its proximity to one of Sandals’ largest resorts, Sandals Ochi Beach.

Ochi Beach features a variety of rooms types, both on the beach and tucked into the hillsides of Ocho Rios, as well as 16 separate and distinct restaurants, 11 bars, the Sandals Golf and Country Club, and a few special surprises.

Where is Sandal Ochi Beach? Where is Ocho Rios?

We’ve written extensively about how the Montego Bay, Jamaica area can be the perfect spot for a Caribbean getaway.

With resorts like Sandals Montego Bay and Sandals Royal Caribbean only a few minutes from the airport, you can lounge on a Jamaican beach less than four hours after taking off from most airports in the Southeast.

If you’re ready to step out a little further into Jamaica, Ochi Beach  is a perfect choice as Ocho Rios is just over an hours’ drive from Montego Bay, east along the coast.

The drive itself is part of the fun.

Transfers from the airport are included and you’ll likely get the fun of a stop at one of Jamaica’s famous roadside jerk shacks. The views of the ocean along the way are magnificent!

A quick note on flying into Jamaica: When headed to Ochi Beach, you’ll be flying into the Sangster International Airport. Sangster is one of the largest and busiest airports in the Caribbean and getting through customs and immigration can be a bear – we always use and we HIGHLY recommend that all our clients utilize the services of Club Mobay .

Club Mobay  is an arrival and departure club/service whose representatives will meet you at your arrival gate, see you safely through customs and immigration, and settle you into their arrival lounge for a drink or two before they connect you with your ground transportation.

They’ll do the same thing in reverse when it’s time for you to (sadly) leave Jamaica.  Club Mobay’s parent company, VIP Attractions, also operates a similar service at Kingston’s airport, known as Club Kingston. 

Sandals’ own private arrival lounge is right beside the Club Mobay arrival lounge at Sangster so you’ll be right where you need to be.

If you are using Club Mobay for your arrival, you can pretty easily enjoy both lounges!

This would be a good time to mention the Sandals/Beaches arrival lounge at Sangster.

It’s a cozy spot to enjoy those first few minutes of your all-inclusive experience. The lounge provides a comfortable wait for your transfer to Ocho Rios.

You’ll have places to sit, relax, and enjoy a beer and maybe some rum punch (all are included). Make sure to pick up a copy of the Gleaner – the nearly 200 year-old Jamaican newspaper – and see what’s happening around the island.

You’ll be alerted when your ride is ready and in another hour or so you’ll be pulling up at Sandals Ochi Beach.

The Butler Villas on the hillside above the beach are, of course, home to a collection of accommodations that come with the services of one of Sandals specially trained butlers, a treat that will make your stay that much more special.

While butler service is exclusive to the Villas, nearly everything else at Ochi really is included! Sandals is one of the originators of all-inclusive and we believe they do it extremely well.

Few Thoughts on All-Inclusive:  If you haven’t already, read our  Southern Girl Travel Guide to Sandals .

You’ll learn more about what all-inclusive means at Sandals.  You’ll be pleased.  At Sandals (unlike some other all-inclusive resorts) all-inclusive means that nearly every thing really is included in the price of your stay.

All your food and drink will be included. We don’t mean just well-brand liquors either. Everything at the bar is included. The only exception we know of is that some Sandals restaurants will offer more exclusive wines at an extra charge, but we have experienced no pressure to purchase.

We have checked out from a week’s stay at Sandals with absolutely no additional charges and you can, too.

Tips are not allowed unless you are in a butler suite – and even then they are not necessary, but you will likely want to reward the amazing service you will receive. Off-resort you’ll want to be prepared to tip as you would anywhere (we’ve noticed some serious pressure to tip in the airport).

Sandals is famous for a wide range of room types and categories. At the writing of this guide (February 2018) Sandals has 4 separate room levels at Ochi, with the most affordable rooms being the Great House Luxury room, and the most extravagant being the Butler Villa with 4 One-Bedroom Suites and Private Pool and the Butler Village Honeymoon Romeo & Juliet One Bedroom Villa Suite with Private Pool Sanctuary.

Food & Drink!

Now for our favorite part of Sandals travel – the food and the drink!

Ochi is a little different than many Sandals resorts. Because of its scale, Ochi boasts 16 separate and distinct restaurants! And because of that number, instead of writing a little about each of them here, we are going to refer you to Sandals’ official website for all the details and feature a few of our favorites here.

Before we jump in here are some things to remember on  dress codes and reservations:

Dress Codes 

The dress codes are not at all strict, but they do matter.

Resort casual   includes dress shorts or jeans. Any swimwear must be covered and no bare feet.

Sandals considers  resort evening  to include elegant wear with dress trousers for men, no t-shirts or sleeveless shirts, and dress shoes. Again, the dress codes are enforced, especially resort evening. Men, watch that shoe requirement and make sure to bring a pair of decent shoes in addition to those flip flops and tennis shoes!

Reservations

Many of the popular restaurants can get rather busy at Sandals and we recommend planning what restaurants you would like to try before your travels. Make a list and meet with the concierge immediately upon your arrival to make reservations.

Don’t wait, especially when traveling during peak times.

There’s nothing quite like the dining experience at Soy Sushi Bar, a quaint restaurant tucked behind bamboo fronds and adorned with unique Oriental décor, dim lighting, and fresh, delectable sushi. Giving guests a taste of the Far East with traditional and contemporary sushi creations, Soy is named after soy sauce, a customary ingredient in the art of sushi. This remarkable sushi house offers exciting flavors and exotic sushi creations made-to-order. Chefs skillfully prepare sushi using only the freshest ingredients. Guests can enjoy a nightcap or pre-dinner cocktail near the stone-lined fire pits, and inside, will discover great ambiance with the stone statues, pendant lighting, and mahogany furniture. When it comes to sushi, Soy has plenty of answers. Sample delicacies like the Orange Blossom, a guest favorite with tuna, crabmeat, and avocado rolled with salmon and topped with Tobiko, mango sauce and unagi sauce. The bar area is popular with groups while the intimate booths create the perfect setting for a romantic evening for two to celebrate a special occasion. Soy really is one of our favorite spots at Ochi. Jamaica is a very long way from Japan, but the sushi was surprisingly good, the atmosphere was terrific, and we found ourselves eating supper one night and stopping in for a snack and a drink every other night we visited Ochi.

The staff remembered us on every visit and Soy will be on our short list for our next visit to Ochi.

Neptune, the Roman god of water and the sea, is one of the most well known deities of Roman mythology. It’s said that his powers are at the core of Neptune’s, our Mediterranean seafood restaurant – and after dining here, you just might believe the old tale rings true. For years, the chefs of Neptune’s have made it their mission to provide the most authentic reflection of Mediterranean heritage through robust menu offerings and a sundry setting. From the splendor of the rustic, open-air restaurant design, to the beauty of the turquoise sea, guests are offered a true, coastal Mediterranean experience directly on the beach, against the backdrop of the beautiful Jamaican Riviera. Kelly’s Dockside

But it’s the famous Kelly’s Sampler that typically steals the limelight with its appetizing combination of jerk chicken wings, conch fritters, beef burritos, marinated feta with sun-dried tomatoes, cured Italian meats, artichokes, and fried rice noodles with marinated vegetables. The beautiful restaurant lit up by lanterns and the Caribbean sun, mixed with mouthwatering culinary delights and the sound of the waves softly caressing the sand, presents guests with a most romantic evening under the starry sky. And best of all, guests can indulge in selections from the innovative Kelly’s menu. From perfectly seasoned meats and seafood, to delectable sides and desserts, flavorful combinations with the sauces to accompany them abound. Guests rave about the juicy filet mignon, the sizzling shrimp, and the spicy salmon. With an amazing sunset, gorgeous views, and the best steak and seafood around, it doesn’t get much better than Kelly’s Dockside, a place you’ll want to brag about.

Kelly’s dress code is Resort Casual (see the dress code descriptions above) and reservations are required. Currently listed hours (which are subject to change) are:

Where food and drink is concerned, Ochi is unique among Sandals and apparently among resorts across the Caribbean as it has a special speakeasy-style bar/nightclub call the Rabbit Hole.

Activities (other than lounging on the beach, eating, and drinking)

You may never get past the lounging on the beach stage, but if you’re ready for some physical activity and fun, this video should give you an idea of what to expect:

Ochi Beach has a ton of offerings – and nearly all are included.

Like all Sandals resorts, Ochi also includes Scuba Diving…with just a few limitations on what’s included.

How about what’s not included?

Of course, once you leave the resort and venture into Ocho Rios, you’re back to the real world where everything is not included. While that’s always an option, we prefer to spend most of our time hanging out at the resort and relaxing.

There are, however, a few options you really should consider for an extra charge.

Sandals Red Lane Spas are available at every resort.  At Sandals Ochi Beach, you can enjoy a number of different treatments including private massages along the beach.  Contact us for all the details .

Sandals features  Island Routes  for off-resort excursions.  There are a ton of choices that – if you like – will let you spend time exploring even the interior of Jamaica, making it back to Ochi Beach for a relaxing evening.

Some of your choices include:

• Visiting Dunn’s River Falls
• Taking an off-road 4×4 safari
• Swimming with the dolphins
• Segwaying around an estate
• Taking a reggae cruise on one of those cool resort catamarans
