• Trivia The Starfleet vessels seen in the first season, including the Discovery, the Shenzou and the redesigned Enterprise, were all designed by production artist John Eaves. Eaves' work with Star Trek spans three decades. Probably his most notable contribution was the design of the Enterprise-E for Star Trek: First Contact (1996) .
• Goofs With Michael being the adoptive sister of Spock, the series has many flashbacks to their childhood and upbringing on Vulcan. Spock's Vulcan half-brother, Sybok, does not appear nor is mention during these scenes. In Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) , Spock says that he and Sybok grew up together. However, since it's never stated when Sybok joined Sarek's home - only that he did so following his mother's death - or when he was exiled from the family, it's not impossible Sybok moved in after Burnham, and left before she graduated (the two extremes of the flashbacks). Also, since Sybok was never mentioned before Star Trek V, it seems reasonable the family never spoke of him again after his estrangement.

A deranged doctor escapes to the Enterprise from a planetary penal colony. As Kirk investigates, he is brainwashed by the colony's maniacal director.

The Enterprise narrowly escapes from imposing alien Balok's starship, but when Balok transmits a distress call, Kirk and the crew go to his aid.

Spock abducts the Enterprise's injured former captain and sets a course for a forbidden planet. Facing a court-martial, Spock refuses to back down.

During Spock's court-martial, video images of Capt. Pike's encounter with the psychic Talosians reveals Spock's motivation for hijacking the ship.

Kodos, a fugitive mass murderer, is a 23rd-century Shakespearean actor. When a friend is murdered, Kirk asks a Shakespearean troupe to investigate.

After Romulan war birds destroy Federation outposts, the Enterprise pursues them. Similarities between them and Vulcans spark bigotry against Spock.

The Enterprise lands at a picturesque planet for shore leave, but the idyll is ruined when a samurai and a bloodthirsty knight attack Sulu and Bones.

Spock, Bones, Scotty and others crash-land on a planet where they're attacked by deadly giants. Spock risks their lives on a slim chance at a rescue.

When the Enterprise is captured on a planet ruled by a childish alien who is fascinated with Napoleon, Kirk offers his life for his crew's freedom.

Aliens abduct Kirk and a Gorn, a violent, lizard-like humanoid. To save their crews, Kirk and the Gorn must fight to the death, but Kirk refuses.

A black star sends the Enterprise back in time to 1960s Earth. Before they can turn back, Kirk and the crew must destroy all evidence of their visit.

After an officer is killed in a freak accident, computer records indicate Kirk is to blame. Evidence at a court-martial reveals that Kirk was framed.

When the Enterprise travels to a planet where a Starfleet ship disappeared years ago, they find a tyrannical computer that rules its oppressed people.

The Enterprise encounters brutal super humans led by Khan Noonien Singh, who battles Kirk for control, turning a trusted colleague against Starfleet.

Arriving at a planet where his crew members are slated to die, Kirk learns they're in a virtual war in which suicide is commited to avoid real combat.

The Enterprise lands on a planet where everyone becomes very passive and affectionate toward one another. Kirk soon learns the cause.

When a monster kills several men at a mining colony, Kirk and Spock investigate. Spock learns the odd creature is intelligent, with a valid motive.

Kirk tries to establish an outpost on a planet inhabited by seemingly primitive Organians. When Klingons attack, Organians show their true evolution.

Kirk meets Lazarus, who claims he's chasing his parallel self through space and time and if Kirk doesn't help him, the entire multiverse is at risk.

Bones travels back to 1930s America and inadvertently destroys the future. To reverse the damage, Kirk and Spock also go back, and Kirk falls in love.

On another planet, Kirk's brother is killed by amoeba-like aliens, which also infect Spock. But Bones's cure has surprising side effects.

Star Trek: Season 2

Season 2 of Star Trek has 26 episodes.

In the throes of his Pon Farr mating period, Spock must return to Vulcan to meet his intended future wife, betrothed from childhood.

A powerful being claiming to be the Greek god Apollo appears and demands that the crew disembark onto his planet to worship him.

An artificially intelligent probe with a murderously twisted imperative comes on to the Enterprise and confuses Capt. Kirk with his creator.

Kirk, McCoy, Scotty and Uhura find themselves in a mirror universe aboard a parallel Enterprise run by ruthless barbarians.

Kirk and a landing party beam down to what seems to be an ideal, Eden-like planet.

The Enterprise encounters the wrecked Constellation, whose distraught captain is determined to stop the giant ship that killed his crew.

When Kirk and his landing party arrive on the planet below, they are met with eerie mists, a dark castle, witches, goblins and a black cat.

Harry Mudd returns with a plot to take over the Enterprise by stranding the crew on a planet populated by androids under his command.

‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Season 3 Netflix Release Schedule

Star Trek: Discovery will be once again coming to Netflix for its third season in 188 regions of Netflix around the world. Here’s the full release schedule as to when you can expect new episodes and where to watch if you’re living in a region where Discovery doesn’t stream on Netflix.

The Star Trek series is among the new generation of shows and Discovery is set a decade before the adventures of the USS Enterprise and follows the USS Discovery on the search for new worlds.

The series features Sonequa Martin-Green, Dough Jones, Anthony Rapp, and Mary Wiseman and has won a Primetime Emmy.

Netflix still retains the international rights for Star Trek: Discovery despite losing out to Amazon on Star Trek: Picard . The new animated series, Lower Decks has yet to find an international distributor but we can rule out Lower Decks being on Netflix US.

Why isn’t Star Trek: Discovery on Netflix in the US or Canada?

As you’re probably aware, the series is a CBS All Access original which is a competing streaming service to Netflix. It hosts all of the brand new Star Trek series and as a result, they do not license the show in the US to other providers.

In Canada, Bell licensed the title for broadcast and it’s available on Crave.

Netflix weekly release schedule for Star Trek: Discovery season three

Star Trek: Discovery is considered to be a Netflix Original in most regions outside the United States and Canada. It falls into the “exclusive international distribution” Netflix Original category .

This includes regions such as Australia, the United Kingdom, all of Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

As with the second season of Star Trek: Discovery , season three will be coming to Netflix on a weekly basis. As confirmed by the Star Trek site , the first episode is set to release on October 15th, 2020 in the US on CBS All Access before arriving on Neflix the following day (October 16th).

“Watch the latest trailer for  Star Trek: Discovery season three, premiering October 15, exclusively in the U.S. on CBS All Access, in Canada on Bell Media’s CTV Sci-Fi Channel and streams on Crave, and on October 16 on Netflix in 188 countries.”

Here’s the full current expected release schedule. It’s worth noting that for season two, the series flipped from airing on Fridays to Saturdays midway through the season so this table could be changed.

Star Trek: Prodigy has found its new home at Netflix.

The previously aired first season of the animated kids' series will be coming to the service on December 25. In addition, the new second season, currently in production, is slated to debut on Netflix in 2024.

Star Trek: Prodigy is the first Star Trek series aimed at younger audiences and follows a motley crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy, in search of a better future. These six young outcasts know nothing about the ship they have commandeered – a first in the history of the Star Trek franchise – but over the course of their adventures together, they will each be introduced to Starfleet and the ideals it represents.

“Thank you to our incredible Star Trek: Prodigy fans, who championed not just a show, but a community that’s always been connected by the belief that we build a better future together,” said executive producer Alex Kurtzman and co-showrunners Dan and Kevin Hageman. “We set out to inspire you, but you inspired us. Earlier this summer, Kevin and Dan Hageman revealed an extended first look at the second season's premiere episode, where the former crew of the U.S.S. Protostar and now warrant Starfleet officers in training are reunited for an internship under the command of Admiral Janeway. Escorting them to the admiral's new ship is Janeway's dear friend, The Doctor.

Star Trek: Prodigy received a 2023 TCA Award nomination for “Outstanding Achievement in Family Programming” along with a 2022 Children’s and Family Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Animated Series, and production designer, Alessandro Taini, won the award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation.

The Star Trek series, including Star Trek: Discovery , Star Trek: Picard , Star Trek: Strange New Worlds , and the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks are available to stream on Paramount+, with the recently announced Star Trek: Section 31 and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy slated to begin production soon. Paramount Plus renews two hit Star Trek series but cancels Lower Decks, the best of them all

Paramount Plus has some good news and some bad news for Star Trek fans...

Star Trek: Lower Decks – arguably the best Star Trek series, if its flawless ratings from critics are anything to go by – will make its final voyage later this year. The show will come to a close after its next season, its fifth, which is expected to air later in 2024. 

But there's some solace for Star Trek fans, as Stark Trek: Strange New Worlds has been renewed for a fourth season. If a fifth season is the streaming equivalent of the red uniform that indicates one of the teleported team isn't coming back, that means Star Trek: Strange New Worlds should still be around for at least one more season after that.

The news of Star Trek: Lower Decks' cancellation comes via show creator Mike McMahan and co-producer Alex Kurtzman. In a message shared with the Star Trek website, they wrote: "We wanted to let you know that this fall will be the fifth and final season of  Star Trek: Lower Decks . While five seasons of any series these days seems like a miracle, it’s no exaggeration to say that every second we've spent making this show has been a dream come true."

According to the duo: "We’re excited for the world to see our hilarious fifth season which we're working on right now, and the good news is that all previous episodes will remain on Paramount+ so there is still so much to look forward to as we celebrate the  Cerritos  crew with a big send-off... We remain hopeful that even beyond season five, Mariner, Boimler, Tendi, Rutherford and the whole  Cerritos  crew will live on with new adventures."

Fans of the show will be disappointed. It's been consistently great, with season four currently sitting at an impressive 100% on Rotten Tomatoes – that's higher than even the first season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which has 99%. As Rolling Stone put it: " Next Generation and Deep Space Nine took a while to find themselves, and so did Lower Decks " – the fourth season has "become a highlight of this current phase of TV Trek".

Hopefully it's some consolation that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been renewed for another season. It's currently sitting with a 98% rating based on 99% for season one and 97% for season two. CBR says "it's shows like Strange New Worlds that confirm there is plenty of life in the venerable science fiction franchise, giving fans plenty to look forward to every Thursday for the exciting adventures of Captain Pike and his Enterprise", while The Mary Sue says that " Strange New Worlds shows that there’s still plenty of life left in the classic Star Trek format."

The idea that Dickie's parents would be so concerned about him makes sense if he is a recent college graduate lacking a sense of direction, but it doesn't scan quite as smoothly if he graduated from college roughly 20 years ago.

The ages of the characters in Ripley makes some of their relationships seem unusual. Dakota Fanning and Eliot Sumner are both much younger than Johnny Flynn, and they don't look as if they would realistically be moving in the same social circles. Putting these logical hurdles to one side, aging Tom changes his character in a major way that Ripley never truly addresses. Netflix Sued in Italy by Local Actors’ Group as Ongoing Battle Over Residual Rights Rages

UPDATE: Italian collecting company Artisti 7607, which represents thousands of local acting and dubbing talents, has announced it is suing Netflix in a Rome court “to obtain adequate and proportionate compensation due by law to its mandated artists.”

Netflix disputes they are doing anything wrong.

Artisti 7607, which was founded as a co-op more than a decade ago by a group of Italian A-list actors including Elio Germano — who in 2015 won top acting honors in Cannes with Daniele Luchetti’s “Our Life” — has long been doing battle with Netflix over residual rights.

Artisti 7607 is suing Netflix in court after taking similar action with Italy ‘s media watchdog AGCOM, which in September 2023 tossed out the collecting company’s case – while acknowledging that Netflix was obliged to provide them viewer data – and urged both parties to negotiate an agreement.

“We believe in fair remuneration of performers,” Netflix commented in a statement, noting that they have had an agreement in place with Nuovo Imaie, the largest Italian collecting society representing actors. “We have long tried to reach an agreement with Artisti 7607 and provided them with all information required by law, as recognised by AGCOM in their decision last year,” the streaming giant added.

“Artisti 7607 have repeatedly refused our payment offer and, while we remain hopeful that they will accept it, we now await the court’s decision,” Netflix went on to point out.

“The very [streaming] platforms that process and exploit data refuse – due to their excessive economic and contractual power – to provide us with data required by law and consequently do not pay artists their fees,” Germano said in a statement released by Artisti 7607 on Tuesday.

The Artisti 7607 statement also noted that the European Union’s Copyright Directive, approved in 2019, “has made it clear that artists’ remuneration must be ‘adequate and proportionate’ to revenues.” But according to local experts, the thorny issue is more complex and clearly remains unresolved in Italy, making this case a potential local landmark.
