Starting out as a small mining town, Johannesburg was transformed into the gritty economic hub of the country, complete with bustling squares, tall skyscrapers, and geometric designs. Soweto – short for South Western Township – is filled to the brim with heroic stories from The Struggle, including those of Hastings Ndlovu, Hector Pieterson and Mbuyisa Makhubo who, in 1976, gave their lives in the fight to liberate others.
