Exotic Thailand in 13 Days - Bangkok / Kanchanaburi / Chiang Mai/ Krabi Island

The tours are basically custom-made to match your requirements so you get what you want and at whatever quality you are willing to pay for. They then match your needs to those of other clients and if a match is made a group is formed. If no match is made you tour by yourself with a guide and driver. We were matched with a young Austrian couple who spoke excellent English. They were great fun and added to the enjoyment of the trip. If the choices are yours, the main areas for critical assessment are the selection of guides and drivers, how your accommodation stacks up against its star rating, the efficiency and promptness of tour arrangements and your satisfaction level with any sub-tours organised via other tourist companies. In general, all of these assessments had an EXCELLENT rating. We had an excellent English-speaking guide (Gift) and driver (Sunshine) for our 3 day Bangkok/Kanchanaburi tour. The day tour to the Bridge on the River Kwai and Hellfire Gorge as part of our Chang Mai segment were well organised, with another excellent guide and driver. All pickups were on time, in comfortable vans, most looking a bit like night clubs on wheels. We had no complaints about any of our accommodation, even in the more remote rural areas. When lunches were included, the food was always tasty and adequate. So in summary an extremely enjoyable and well organised tour, where everything conformed with the tour schedule. So absolutely nothing to complain about and a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED tour company.

Overall good organized tour. Our tour guide Amin was really friendly and helpful! We booked for Christmas season and we couldn’t enjoy the monuments fully because of the crowds but we had some amazing photos in Bangkok. The trip to Krabi was also pleasant. I liked the resort more than the actual tours (again it was super crowded). The hotel staff was very kind both in Bangkok and Krabi. Safe locations and very central. I definitely recommend the tour if you want to combine beach and big city.

There are a number of routes that may be taken to go from Bangkok to Krabi. If you intend to travel between these two cities by land, you should be aware that the distance between them is 785 kilometers, which will make for a very long day.

Prices during the high season (December to April) begin at twice what they are during the low season and can reach into the hundreds of dollars if you don’t make your reservation in plenty of time. There are many flights that travel between Bangkok and Krabi Town every day, so it is important to check and compare prices before booking a trip. Flights that depart at inconvenient times (very early in the morning or late in the evening) are typically more affordable.

Most low-cost carriers, such as AirAsia and Thai Lion Air, provide only carry-on luggage as part of the ticket price; therefore, you will be required to pay additional fees for checked bags.

You will need to make transportation arrangements after arriving at Krabi International Airport because the airport is located 15 kilometers away from the main part of town. Outside of the airport, there is constantly a line for air-conditioned shuttle buses, songthaews (shared pick-up taxis), and regular taxis. If you want to avoid being overcharged, you should always establish a flat rate before the ride begins.

• By Train and Bus

Train travel isn’t an option for getting from Bangkok to Krabi because Krabi doesn’t have a train station. However, you can take a train to Surat Thani and then switch to a bus for the remaining portion of the journey. The bad news is that train travel isn’t an option if you have your heart set on taking that route. You would be able to make the overnight portion of the journey on a nice sleeper train, and the remaining portion of the journey to Krabi would just take a few hours by bus.

The Hua Lamphong station in Bangkok is the terminal for all trains bound for Surat Thani. Even while travel options take place during the day, using a sleeper train is by far the most comfortable option. If you take the train that leaves at 6:30 pm or 7:30 pm, you will arrive in Surat Thani at either 6:25 am, or 7:10 am, depending on which train you took. You will have some time to grab a bite to eat before boarding the bus to continue on your journey, so take advantage of this opportunity.

The most affordable options are 2nd Class Sleepers with only fans (which indicates that there is no AC accessible on the train), followed by 2nd Class seats exclusively with AC (no beds). When temperatures reach 40 degrees Celsius, you won’t find a lot of people from other countries on these trains, and the journey might be very painful because of the heat.

The First Class Sleepers with Air Conditioning and the Second Class Sleepers with Air Conditioning is the most comfortable options available to you on this flight. While the berths on second-class trains are located in an open carriage with many other passengers, first-class travelers can book a private cabin that can accommodate just two individuals. You will need to purchase your ticket in advance in order to ensure that you have a reserved seat in the cabin. In any other case, you can usually just show up at the train station and buy your ticket there. If you intend to spend the night on one of the islands in the Krabi province, you will need to take a ferry at some point. Whether you travel there by bus or aircraft, you will be able to board a boat in Krabi Town that will take you to the islands after you have arrived in Krabi Town. To get to Railay West Beach or the Koh Phi Phi islands, both of which require a water transfer at the end of your journey, a significant proportion of people that arrive in Krabi are on their way to these destinations.

Different piers in Krabi serve as departure points for the city’s many boats, with varying amenities and customer service. The Phi Phi islands may be reached by ferry in around two hours’ time. The boats provide a relaxing ride with air conditioning, a sundeck for those who would rather have unobstructed views of the water, and a concession stand where passengers can purchase food and beverages. The same trip may be completed in around an hour and a half by high-speed catamarans; however, while it is good to save some time, you will have fewer opportunities to stroll around and enjoy the trip because high speeds entail more bouncing on the water and will need you to sit down more frequently.

You can either arrive in Krabi and purchase a ferry ticket there or purchase a combo ticket that includes both a bus ride to Krabi and a ferry ride to the islands. Both options are available. After breakfast, check-out and board our coach bus as we make our way to Phuket. You may fancy our full-day trip to Phang Nga Bay, an idyllic area of limestone islands, caves and mangroves. This gorgeous bay is characterized by sheer limestone karsts and mangroves, and is home to “James Bond Island,” a limestone pinnacle that starred in the James Bond movie “The Man with the Golden Gun.” The tour begins with a stop at Phang Nga province to visit the Buddha Cave Temple (Suwannakuha), also called the “Monkey Temple.”  Our journey continues with a visit to Ao Phang Nga National Park This scenic area covers over 40 limestone islands, caves, rock formations and evergreen mangroves.  Ride a long-tail boat around the bays, admire the famous James Bond Island, where parts of the movie ‘The Man with a Golden Gun’ was filmed. Enjoy lunch at the stilted Sea Gypsy Village before returning to hotel. Later you may want to join Patong Night Market with seafood dinner.
