November 2021 update: We have received many messages from people asking for advice about Cambodia visa extensions. Things are changing frequently and we don’t have all the answers. For the latest information, we recommend joining the Facebook group Cambodia Visa and Work Permit Group where people are sharing their experiences entering Cambodia right now. Stay safe out there!

How to Extend a Cambodia Visa

Getting a visa for Cambodia is relatively easy, and extending it is just as simple. You can renew your visa for one month up to a year ! Here’s how you can extend your Cambodia visa without leaving the country.

**Important notice: As of September 4, 2017, the laws for long-term Cambodia visa extension have changed. This article has been edited to reflect that. You can read more about the changes here .

(Updated May 2019) Find out how you can extend a Cambodia Visa without leaving the country. It is possible to extend your Cambodia visa for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months. #Cambodia #CambodiaVisa

Which types of  Cambodia Visas can you extend?

There are two types of Cambodia visas you can extend without leaving the country:  TOURIST (T) Visa or ORDINARY (E) Visa.

There are 4 different types of Ordinary (E) Visas: (EB) Visa: Business, (EG) Visa for those searching for employment, (ER) Visa for Retirement, and (ES) Visa for Students. You can choose which type you would like when you extend your Cambodia visa.

Which Cambodia Visa should you get?

If you plan to stay in Cambodia for less than 2 months , get a TOURIST (T) VISA . You can get a 1-month Cambodia Tourist Visa on arrival when entering by land crossing or at an airport. You can extend your Cambodia Tourist (T) Visa for 1 month by going through a travel agency or do it on your own at the Department of Immigration in Phnom Penh.

If you plan to stay in Cambodia for longer than 2 months , get an ORDINARY (E) VISA , which you can also get on-arrival via land or airport. After one month you can extend it for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months. The 6 and 12-month extensions allow multiple entries into the country, meaning you can leave Cambodia and come back on the same valid visa. Cambodia is one of the easiest countries in Southeast Asia to stay long term, especially since you can get a Cambodia visa-on-arrival. However, it is not as easy as it used to be to extend your visa long term.

**Note: Visa laws change frequently in Cambodia, sometimes without much notice. We update this article as often as possible when we learn new information. As of September 4, 2017, you can only apply for a 6-month visa extension if it is your first time coming to Cambodia. Subsequent 6 and 12-month visas will require proof of an employment letter or a valid Work Permit.

In May 2019 a friend in Phnom Penh said that she was asked to show an employment letter when she went to extend her visa for 3 months. It is possible that they are cracking down more on visa extensions to ensure people staying in the country long term are working legally. We’ll update if we hear any more information about the 3-month visa extension requirements.

Your TOURIST (T) VISA or ORDINARY (E) VISA can easily be extended within a few days at many travel agencies in Phnom Penh, or you can go to the Department of Immigration in Phnom Penh by yourself.

NOTE: If you want to extend your visa for longer than 1 month, you must enter the country on an ORDINARY (E) VISA.

Be aware of the public holidays in Cambodia when planning out your visa extension. The Department of Immigration is closed on public holidays, which can delay your visa extension.

Remember to Bring:

  • Your passport
  • 1 passport photo (6×4)

Here’s an example of a one-year multiple-entry EB visa. Note that to get a one-year visa you will need a valid work permit.

Going to the department of immigration in phnom penh.

A reader reported in 2019 that it was a simple process to go to the Department of Immigration in Phnom Penh to extend their visa. They also said it saved them a good amount of money compared to using a travel agent (about $20 less, minus travel expenses).

Previously this definitely wasn’t the easiest way to go about extending your visa as you’d have to deal with getting all the way out to the Department of Immigration office by the Phnom Penh International Airport. Plus it could take a long time with no guarantees of when your visa would be ready. According to this reader, this is no longer the case, which is great news!

Is this a good option for you?

Personally, we aren’t big fans of dealing with Cambodian bureaucracy, having dealt with it first hand in the past on many occasions when we lived in Phnom Penh . We prefer to pay a little extra money and go through a travel agent to avoid wasting time and potential hassles. But that’s just us, and you might be up for the bureaucracy adventure! (If not, read more on extending your visa through a travel agency below.)

Going to the Department of Immigration to extend your visa is a good option for you if you plan to be in Phnom Penh for at least five days and don’t mind spending your time going to and from the Department of Immigration to drop-off and pick up your passport on two different days.

Getting there will take about 30 minutes to an hour each way, depending on where you are staying in the city. You’ll also spend time waiting at the Immigration office both days depending on how busy it is. You’re looking at about 1.5-3 hours each day based on how smoothly it all goes.

How to get there and what to do

The Department of Immigration is located across from Phnom Penh International Airport ( Google Map ). Hours for dropping off your passport and visa extension paperwork are from 2 PM-5 PM Monday through Friday. This is subject to holidays, of course, so be sure to look ahead at the public holidays in Cambodia before you make the trip out.

To get to the Department of Immigration in Phnom Penh you can take a tuk-tuk, Grab taxi, PassApp, or a motorbike directly there. You can also take public bus #3 to the Phnom Penh International Airport, then walk across the street. The public bus is the cheapest option at 2000 Riel ($0.50 USD) each way, and it has air-con!

At the Immigration office, you’ll need $30 USD in cash and a photo ID. You may also need a passport photo, so bring one just in case. Once your paperwork and money have been collected and processed you’ll get a receipt and temporary ID which will tell you your pick-up date. This is usually 3-5 business days later as long as there are no holidays. You will need to go back to the Department of Immigration office to collect your passport during the same hours.

Travel Agent Suggestions in Phnom Penh

Another option is to drop your passport with a travel agency that will process your Cambodia visa extension for you, freeing up your time to explore Phnom Penh . This option is a bit more expensive than doing it yourself since travel agencies charge a fee for their service.

Below are some travel agencies in Phnom Penh that offer visa extension services. We recommend contacting them directly through Facebook messenger or calling if you have any questions before you go in.

Some guesthouses and hotels also offer visa extension services. Just ask at reception.

How to extend your cambodia visa outside of phnom penh.

To extend a Cambodia visa, your passport must be processed at the Department of Immigration in Phnom Penh. If you are in another province it may be possible to have your passport sent to Phnom Penh through a travel agency. There will be an additional fee for this service and it may take a few extra days so plan accordingly.

Compared with the added cost of traveling to Phnom Penh yourself, sending your passport may be a more cost-effective option. Though it might seem scary to give your passport to a stranger, this is how it is done.

Be sure to check reviews on Facebook and Tripadvisor of the travel agency you choose before using their services.

Getting a Cambodia e-Visa (Electronic Visa)

If you’re the type of traveler who likes to plan ahead, you have the option to get a Cambodia e-visa online before your trip. All you have to do is fill out the online application and make the payment. You will receive the document via email so you don’t have to deal directly with a Cambodia embassy. When you arrive in Cambodia, present your passport and the document.

Note that an electronic visa is not the same as an Ordinary (E) visa. At least it’s not confusing. A Cambodia e-visa can be extended once for 30 days, similar to a Tourist (T) visa. One of the perks of getting an e-visa ahead of time is that you can pay by credit/debit card or Paypal instead of having to pay USD for a visa-on-arrival.

Extending a cambodia retirement visa (er visa).

If you plan to retire in Cambodia, at some point you will need to renew your Retirement Visa. Cambodia is a popular place to retire in Southeast Asia and it’s still fairly easy to do so.

One of our readers who has been living on an ER Visa for the past six years in Cambodia shared his experience renewing his Retirement (ER Visa) in January 2019.

Here’s what he said: “It was no problem. I just took my passport into a travel agent in Phnom Penh with 2 passport size photos and $293 (for 12-month extension). No forms to fill out and I got my passport back 11 days later.”

Our Experience with Cambodia Visas

We moved to Phnom Penh, Cambodia in May 2015. We got 1-month Ordinary (E) visas on arrival. After that month we extended our Ordinary (E) visas foår 1 more month, as we moved to Phnom Penh without jobs and weren’t sure what the future held.

Within that second month, we found jobs and then got 1-year visa extensions. We got Ordinary (E) visas again the following year, and once more in July 2017 when we returned to Cambodia after two months away traveling in Laos and Taiwan .

On September 4, 2017, the government changed the rules about Cambodia visa extensions. You are now only allowed to extend your Cambodia visa for 6 or 12 months if you have a valid work permit, or are on a special type of visa such as a Retirement Visa (ER) or a Student Visa (ES).

The government has been cracking down on Work Permits and many businesses are scrambling to get them for their employees. You may qualify to apply for a Work Permit on your own online through the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training website .

If you do not have a valid Work Permit, you will only be able to extend your Ordinary (E) Visa for 3 months. Then you will have to leave Cambodia and can return again and get another Ordinary (E) visa and repeat the visa extension process. In May 2019 a friend was asked to show a work permit to get a 3-month visa extension, so it may not be as easy anymore to get a long term extension.

If you have recently gotten your visa extended in Cambodia and have any new or different information, please share your experience in the comments!

I have visited Cambodia a number of times and decided to retire here. I’m over 55 so no documentation is required. At Phnom Pehn airport I applied for a E type visa at the visa on arrival booth, could not have been easier I was asked how long I intended to stay, I replied 12 months there were no other questions or forms or documents asked for, after five minutes waiting in the designated area I was politely returned my passport with a one month E (ordinary) visa. On to passport control, no queues and a really charming passport officer asked me to do the figure prints me and stamped my passport with a “welcome to Cambodia” sir, walked straight through customs again really all smiles from the officers in attendance. As I live in Bancheay Meanchey 380km from Phnom Pehn I decided to use an agent in Siem Reap. Again couldn’t have been easier. Walked in asked if they could do a visa extension for me replied yes $295 for 12 months (that’s $290 government fees and a fee of $5 including processing and tracked postage), Ten days later I picked my passport with my my new 12 month visa, perfect.

Hello I wish to get a Toursit visa extension and am near the Riverside, the only one you recommend, LMN Travel & Tours is listed by Google as ‘permanently closed’ and I will go there today to check if that is true. Are you aware of any others that might be open/closed on your list? I am sure Covid has had a devastating impact on such agencies and I want to go to a good one still open and in business, thank you

March 8, 2022 at 1:53 am

Covid has indeed been very tough on businesses. We’re sorry for the late reply. Were you able to find a travel agency that could help you?

I’m considering you will drop a good suggestion here. Thanks in advance.

July 16, 2020 at 9:41 am

Hi Faridul, due to Covid-19 the rules on visas are changing and we cannot always be up to date. I recommend contacting local visa agencies or travel agencies in Phnom Penh to find out the current situation with obtaining an Ordinary visa. Best of luck to you!

July 8, 2020 at 10:45 pm

I am a Nigerian coming from Spain to live in Cambodia for the first time. What is the current situation regarding the issuance of visas to Nigerians. Can I still get the visa on arrival? Are there any questions I would be asked by the immigration officers on arrival? What are the precise documents that I would be asked to present? Your prompt response will be greatly appreciated.

July 16, 2020 at 9:43 am

Hi Oye, I wish I had all of these answers for you! Due to Covid-19, visa rules for Cambodia have changed and will likely change again. The best way to get answers to all of your questions is to contact a visa agency or travel agency in Cambodia to get the most up to date information. Wishing you all the best and good luck!

I am a US citizen who married a Khmer woman (in Cambodia = we have a Cambodian Marriage License). I am being told that I may qualify for the “ordinary” E class visa. Unfortunately, there is very little information on this subject. I understand I follow the same process as the business visa but submit my marriage documents in place of letter of employment/work agreement.

Any information about this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely, Ryan

June 28, 2020 at 4:07 pm

Hi Ryan, Unfortunately, we do not know specifics about that. I recommend contacting a travel agency in Cambodia or immigration to get information about your specific situation. Best of luck to you.

October 11, 2020 at 6:00 pm

Ryan, same situation but further along. In early August 2020 US Khmer Embassy changed their Visa Requirements website to include an expanded list of qualifiers for an E-Class “Business” Visa. I got one based on Khmer wife and newborn, an “EF”, presumably “Family”. Required the documents you’d expect plus a written letter/email from the in-country wife about the need for my presence in the Kingdom. The US Khmer Embassy was very responsive via email and upon receipt of the requested documents promptly issued the EF Visa I’m now in country on.

I get an annual multi-entry EB visa for the past 5 years based on my marriage to a Cambodian, and a Cambodian son (dual nationality). A lot of the Facebook and simila information is misleading so we paid and had this researched extensively by a leading Cambodian / International lawl firm in Phnom Penh and there is no specific legal provision, however the immigration authority seem to have discretion. Notwithstanding situations and regulations seem to change. Anually I submit my passport with existing visa, and copies (though sometimes asked for originals) of cambodia marriage documents, wife Cambodian ID, son Cambodian birth certificate, wifes family book, my sangkat residence letter, house rental agreement and this year we are asked for evidence of registration on FPCS, plus passport photo. I have not been asked for a work permit, but the Eb visa does not confer work status – if you are working you will also need a work permit. Hope this helps

Thank you for sharing your experience! We really appreciate it. Hopefully, it is helpful for those going through a similar experience.

Hi, I support one family living now in Cambodia (mother and two boys 8 and 9 years old). They come from Pakistan but they had problem in this country because of their religion, so they had to leave this country. I would like to ask you what type of visa is the best for the boys and what is the price. They attend school in Phnom Penh. Thank you. Viera

Hi Viera, We aren’t able to advise you on this. It is probably best to contact a visa agency there in Cambodia.

February 6, 2020 at 10:55 pm

Hello everyone, thanks for your posts. I also had a question. If I wanted to move to Cambodia as a job seeker, what kind of visa do I need? Do I have to book a return flight to my country? I want to apply for the visa when already in Cambodia. Are there questions that I will be asked concerning my visa type, if any please lemme know. I’ll be moving to Cambodia by next month.

March 9, 2020 at 10:19 am

As far as we know, if you enter Cambodia with an Ordinary (E) visa, which many nationalities can get on arrival, then you will be able to extend that visa once you get a job. You should not need to book a return flight to your country. That said, different countries have different rules, so you will want to confirm that. Best of luck with your move!

I am an indian trying to search job in combodia what kind of visa is suitable for me. is it easy to get job in combodia

January 21, 2020 at 1:34 pm

Hi Sam, if it is your first time going to Cambodia then I would suggest entering the country with an (E) Ordinary visa which you will be able to extend for 3-6 months. This should give you ample time to look for a job in Cambodia. Then your workplace can help you prepare the proper paperwork to get a visa extension and Work Permit. I can’t say whether it’s easy to find a job in Cambodia. It depends on what field you are in, your experience, which companies are hiring at the time, etc. Please be sure to look at the Cambodia Embassy website to ensure that you have the proper paperwork and everything you need to enter the country.

Hi Jennifer, I am a Indian passport holder and just arrived to Cambodia on 13th Aug. On the application form i had mentioned Ordinary (E) visa but they refused to give me a E visa and instead put a T visa on my passport. I have been to Cambodia in the past and was never refused a T visa. This is the first time i had this issue and the immigration officer was asking me to provide them some letter (which I could not understand or am aware of it). Has there been any changes in the visa process. What are the other options to get the E visa. Would appreciate if i could get any help on the above. Thanks in advance.

September 21, 2019 at 8:51 am

Yours is the first instance we’re hearing of where they denied an E visa on arrival. We had heard that immigration started requiring a letter for E visa extensions, but not for E visa on arrival. Sorry to hear that happened to you. If you have any other information please let us know and hope you were able to sort it out.

Yes, same has happened to me too. This is the second time I had applied for Ordinary and they gave me Tourist. Not sure, if there is a unwritten law that Indians are not allowed Ordinary Visa on arrival. Officer kept saying, I need to go to immigration and submit my documents.

November 17, 2019 at 5:05 pm

Thank you for your comment. We aren’t sure about that either. Please share what you find out if you do end up going to immigration. Any information you can share will help other Indian citizens out!

Dear Jennifer, I think your site is the best on Cambodian visa. I recently extended my Cambodian visa at the immigration office. Please add this information to the things needed at the immigration office: the complete, complete, full, full address (and phone number) in Phnom Penh or Cambodia where the person is staying which includes specific names of municipality And district which most hotels may not print on their cards but which will show on Google Maps in Roman letters and which should be written down in advance because no Wi-Fi is available at the immigration office.

Soursdey Jen and Stevo,

Your website was really useful for me, especially this topic, so I would like to post my experience to help as yours helped me.

I arrived in Cambodia with an Ordinary E Visa. Then I asked an EG Visa extension (for those searching for employment) for 6 months the 6th august and it was ready 16th. I provided only passport and fee 160$ at this address : East West Travel Co. #16 Street 57. Thank you very much to had shared this one !!! Because I called an other place (first result in google for visa extension in Cambodia), it was more expensive and they wanted to charge another fee for a letter…

Good to know : Before I asked for this extension, I had already 7 Tourist T VISA, so it was far to be my first time in Cambodia 🙂

Thanks again !

August 19, 2019 at 8:36 am

Soursdey Yann, Thank you so much for sharing your recent experience! That is really helpful for other people who want to extend their visa. We appreciate you taking the time to share how it went for you. All the best to you! Cheers, Jen

Hi, so the e-visa one applies for online is not the ordinary visa? So is better to apply for the ordinary visa on arrival? Thanks

August 19, 2019 at 8:38 am

Hi Lio, yes it is our understanding that you can only apply for the Tourist (T) visa online. You can get the Ordinary (E) visa on arrival. Please let us know if you find anything different from your experience, but as far as we know you are correct.

July 10, 2019 at 10:29 am

I am traveling with a group of engineering university students to Kampot for 8 weeks in January 2020. We will be undertaking volunteer work with an NGO assisting in the design and construction of a toilet block for a local school as well as training locals so they can reproduce this project. We will not receive any payments – so technically not working.

We are planning on entering Cambodia on a Tourist E-Visa (or Business E-Visa) for 30 days. We will get these visas prior to arriving in Cambodia. We understand we will need to extend this visa for another 30 days to allow us to be in Cambodia for the full 60 days.

The options appear to be:

1. Pay a travel agent in Kampot to get the visa extended in Phnom Penh for an additional 30 days ($50USD). My concern here is not having access to our passports for up to 5 days.

2. Travel to Vietnam at the Ha Tien border crossing. Enter Vietnam on a pre-arranged Tourist E Visa ($25USD + $20USD stamping fee). Stay for 1-2 nights in Vietnam. Return to Cambodia border crossing and apply for a Tourist Visa On Arrival ($35USD) which will give us another 30 days in Cambodia. Positives of this process is that we have access to our passports at all times, but negatives are costs of bus travel to and from Ha Tien, accommodation in Ha Tien and purchase of Vietnamese visa.

What would yo suggest the best course of action may be?

July 25, 2019 at 1:32 pm

Hi Kristy, I believe there is a volunteer visa option with the Ordinary (E) visa that you can apply for though I don’t know what that process entails or if it would be worth the effort to get it. That might be something to look into.

Both options you mentioned should work. I know it feels scary to be without your passports when you send them through a travel agent, but that’s how it is done if you are applying for a visa extension from outside of Phnom Penh. Make sure everyone in your group has copies of their passport picture page before sending them off. I don’t know which travel agents in Kampot are best to work with. You can try asking in some of the Kampot Facebook groups as expats living there will likely have more insight.

As you said, the cost of a visa run trip to Vietnam will add up, so renewing your visa with a travel agent is probably the better option if time and money are a concern. Hope your group has a great trip!

I obtained Ordinary Visa on arrival $35, then extended to get 6 month visa $161. The travel agency simply printed off a pre-written letter for the embassy. This was NOT my first visit to Cambodia.

June 20, 2019 at 10:39 am

Sounds like the travel agency was able to work some magic for you! Do you mean a letter for immigration? When you extend your visa the Cambodian Immigration Department handles it. If you want to share which travel agency you used that might be helpful to people.

May I know if it is fine to use company letter for application? Or working permit is a must?

June 4, 2019 at 6:38 pm

Hi Cecilia, you’re welcome! Recently we have heard of people using both a company letter or a work permit in order to extend their visa. To be sure I would check with your company and ask them. Hopefully, HR will have updated information to help you. Best of luck!

Hi, I am a US Citizen and self-employed as a freelancer. Would it be possible to obtain 12 month business visa extension?

Hi Mera, As far as we know there isn’t a way to get a 12-month visa as a freelancer. You will probably need to get an Ordinary (E) visa when you arrive in Cambodia and get a 3-month visa extension, then leave the country and return and do the same thing again. If anyone knows any other way to do it, please share!

After flying from Toronto, Canada in 2017, I applied for ordinary (E) visa on the plane from Shanghai to Siem Reap, Cambodia. They simply gave people on the plane an application to fill out while we were in flight from China. (The ordinary (E) visa used to be called the “Business” Visa.) Paid the $35 when we landed at Siem Reap.

A few days later I took my passport to a local travel agency in Siem Reap and paid for a six month extension. They sent it off to Phnom Penh and I got it back a week later with the six month Extension. No problems at all. When I return later this year or next year.. (end of 2019 or beginning of 2020) I will be getting the ordinary (E) visa again and apply for the ER “Retirement” 12 month extension.

Hi Robert, thanks for sharing about your experience extending your Ordinary (E) visa! It’s great to hear that you had an easy time getting it extended for 6 months. Can you share the name of the travel agency you used in Siem Reap?

My wife and I have been offered employment in Cambodia after a short visit to my daughter in April 2019. Would we be able to apply for an E visa?

May 7, 2019 at 10:37 am

Hi Marius, Yes, you and your wife can apply for an Ordinary (E) Visa. You will be able to extend it for 3 months on your own or if your employer can help you secure a work permit then you can extend your (E) visa for 6 or 12 months.

You’re welcome!

I have a khmer boyfriend and at the moment we are in Thailand but we plan to move to Cambodia. We will arrive in Cambodia the day after tomorrow but we have to go back to Thailand the 22nd (may) until 5th (June). Then we plan to come back to Cambodia and he will stay there but I have to go back to Thailand from 22nd of June until 14th of June. Then back to Cambodia and I would love to stay there one year.

What do you recommend me to do? Reading the article I thought about getting the ordinary (E) visa the day after tomorrow and then in that same week, applying for a “looking for a job 6 month visa” with multiple entry.

We both got offered a job in Cambodia already but we don’t know how that will work out. Is it easy/cheap to get a work permit?

And where can I apply for this 6 month visa? and what is the name of this visa, like what do I have to tell them when I apply for it?

I hope you can help me out! Thank you, Tya

May 7, 2019 at 10:43 am

You can go to a travel agency to ask about the 6-month multiple entry visa. You will only be able to apply for this type of visa if it is your first time visiting Cambodia. Otherwise, you can only extend your (E) visa for 3 months. In that case, it will not be a multiple entry visa so it sounds like that won’t make sense for your situation. I’m not sure how quickly the travel agency will be able to get the visa for you, but it usually takes about a week or less. You can get a work permit once you have a job since it is tied to your employer, and they should help you with the process. Our schools helped us get our work permits, so I’m not sure what the cost is, to be honest. It seems to change every year, but your employer will know. Hope that helps and good luck to you and your boyfriend! All my best, Jen

Hello Doctor visa I read what you up-dated in may 19 but dont understand if i stay less 20 days, i need visa with indian passport ? Thank you for reply

May 5, 2019 at 12:19 pm

Yes, you still need a visa. Only 9 countries are visa exempt for Cambodia, but India is not one of them. You can check more info here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_policy_of_Cambodia

Hi, which of the following travel agency can meet the 1 week visa processing for 6months visa? Will it cost me extra fees to process it for 1 week? Thanks

May 5, 2019 at 12:23 pm

It usually only takes 3-5 working days to process a visa at any travel agency unless there is a holiday. There will be a fee of $5 or so depending on how long you are extending for. Best of luck!

I have an African passport and wanted a Business Visa (for 6 months), unfortunately I got a Tourist Visa by imposition. I renewed it for 1 additional month (total of 60 days). Finally, I took a flight out to a visa-free country and on my return I stated emphatically I needed a Business Visa. I was told at the airport that with my kind of passport, there was no way I could be given a business visa. After an hour, I was issued another Tourist Visa with threats of deportation (why am I touring Cambodia for all these while? what do I do etc?).

How often can I apply and renew Tourist Visa? Does it mean after every 60 days I need to take a flight out? (Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Malaysia do not give visa on arrival to African passport holders)

Can African passport holders not do business in/with Cambodian?

I’m just amazed..

Thanks for your feedback.

April 17, 2019 at 10:56 am

Hi, we are sorry to hear this happened to you. Unfortunately, this kind of thing is all too common in Cambodia for African passport holders.

When you say you asked for the Business visa do you mean the Ordinary (E) Visa? This is the visa type that you should get if you want to extend it for longer than 1 month. The Ordinary (E) Visa can be extended for 3 months. If you have a Work Permit, which you can apply for through your employer in Cambodia or online if you are self-employed, then you are able to extend an Ordinary (E) Visa for 6 or 12 months. I hope that immigration will allow you to get the Ordinary (E) Visa the next time you fly into the country.

If not then, yes, you will need to continue to get Tourist (T) Visas and leave the country every 60 days. I am not sure how many times you can do this before it becomes an issue.

Best of luck to you!

Cheers, Jen

i am a Nigerian English teacher who currently lives in Russia and would be visiting Cambodia next month to seek for a a teaching job. I heard about the EG visa category for first timer and people searching for jobs even without prior employment in Cambodia. However, i contacted the Cambodia Embassy in Moscow about an EG visa and i was told that they only have Tourist visa and EB- Business visa. Since most schools in Cambodia prefers face to face interview, they all want me to enter the country first before being considered probably. My question is, are there any flexibility as regards converting a tourist visa to maybe work visa or EG visa or something when you are in the country already and maybe got a job offer?

April 17, 2019 at 12:13 pm

It’s our understanding that you can convert a Tourist (T) Visa within the first week of arriving in Cambodia, but that probably isn’t enough time for you to secure work unless you get quite lucky! Your best bet is to extend your Tourist (T) Visa for an additional 30 days. When your Tourist (T) Visa extension is up you will need to leave the country and you can try to get an Ordinary (E) Visa when you reenter. An Ordinary (E) Visa can be extended for 3 months, or if you have a job then you can get a Work Permit and extend your Ordinary (E) Visa for 6 or 12 months.

Hope that helps! Best of luck with your move!

Hi, we are needing some help. I am Khmer and my boyfriend is from the US. Our original plan was for him to apply 1 month on Tourist Visa, then apply for 3 months on Business Visa as my Khmer brother and I have a business we can claim him under. We have his Business Letter with stamp prepared already, however we have run into a giant problem- he can’t apply for the Business Visa.

My boyfriend is currently on a 1 month Tourist Visa, which was given to him by default on arrival through the Phnom Penh International Airport. When we went to the Department of Immigration today (2 weeks post arrival), we were informed that his visa could not be extended or changed; he cannot apply for a Business Visa/Ordinary Visa within the country and he would have to leave & return to Cambodia in order to apply for a Business Visa/Ordinary Visa. Apparently, he would have had to change his visa type within the first week he was here. We did not know this policy, as we read from many articles that Business Visas were “easily extendable” from within the country and his 1 month Tourist Visa is still active. I’m begging you for step-by-step travel advice to keep him legal in Cambodia until June 04, 2019 (our departure date). I read from another article that traveling to Vietnam by bus for 2 days and then returning to Cambodia via land border crossing will give him the opportunity to apply for the Ordinary Visa. Here are my questions I am hoping you can answer to save our sanity. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

-What requirements are needed to obtain a Vietnam Visa or will we even need one if we are only traveling there for 2 days? (I read on a previous article that you can receive 2 weeks for free…HOW?!) -How much are Vietnam Visas for travel less than 2 weeks? -I am Khmer, will I need a Vietnam Visa? -Which land border crossing from Vietnam-Cambodia accepts applications for EB Visa/Ordinary Visa on spot? (We don’t want to leave Cambodia and pay for visas if Ordinary Visas aren’t even accepted by certain land border crossings…Defeats the purpose) -Are there ANY other ways to change his Tourist Visa to an Ordinary Visa within Cambodia? We live in Kep, which is close to Vietnam and has busses going to and from HCMC as well as other parts of Vietnam, so if traveling to Vietnam is what we must do to keep him legal then by all means we will, IF its the last resort.

Please please help us, as his Tourist Visa expires on April 02, 2019. We are looking for ANY suggestions or solutions to keep him within the country for the full 3 months until June 04, 2019. Extra travel is stressful and expensive but we realistically see that we are in a sticky situation that may not have many solutions, so we appreciate the help we can get.

March 21, 2019 at 10:23 am

Thanks for reaching out, happy to answer your questions. We were just in Kep a couple of days ago. What a beautiful place to live!

Unfortunately, that’s correct that a 1-month Tourist (T) Visa can only be extended for one month. The business visa is now called an Ordinary (E) Visa and can be selected by checking a box on the form when entering the country at land crossings or airports. We had no problem getting an Ordinary (E) Visa at the Bavet/Moc Bai land border crossing between Vietnam and Cambodia. The border crossing closest to Kep should offer the same options. You won’t need any special forms for him to get an Ordinary (E) Visa. It’s also good for one month and he can extend it for three months without leaving the country. He can extend it by going to the immigration office himself or by going to a travel agent who can help for a small fee. Here are two articles we wrote about getting and extending a Cambodia visa: https://twocantravel.com/getting-a-cambodia-visa/ https://twocantravel.com/how-to-extend-a-cambodia-visa/

Some countries do get 2 weeks free in Vietnam, but unfortunately since your boyfriend is an American he will require a visa to go to Vietnam, even if it’s just for a couple of days. The most recent price we heard for the 1-month Vietnam visa for Americans is around $40. He can either go to Phnom Penh to the Vietnam Embassy to get his Vietnam visa, ask at a travel agency in Kep or Kampot about it, or get an e-visa. Here are articles we put together about how to get a Vietnam Visa: https://twocantravel.com/e-visa-vietnam-visa-on-arrival/ https://twocantravel.com/get-vietnam-visa-phnom-penh/ I think Cambodians only need a passport to enter Vietnam, but definitely double check that before you go!

Alternately he can go to Thailand, which is visa-free for 30 days for Americans. There are usually inexpensive round trip flights out of Phnom Penh to Bangkok, so that may be another option.

I hope that helps! Good luck and hope you guys can turn the visa run into a fun and not too costly trip!

All my best, Jen

Good day. My husband wants to come to Cambodia and I’m planning to get him 6months visa extension after the one month e visa stay. Is it possible to get 6month extension in Siem reap airport without working permit. I am the one working and I’m thinking that I will provide a certificate of employment to show immigration that I can sponsor my husband. He will try his luck to find job during those 6 months.

March 11, 2019 at 6:04 pm

Hi Angel, it’s our understanding that if it is your husband’s first time coming to Cambodia then he will be able to get an Ordinary (E) visa when he arrives and extend it for 6 months one time. After that, if he doesn’t have a work permit he’ll need to leave Cambodia and re-enter with a new Ordinary (E) visa which he can then extend for 3 months. Not sure about doing the extension at the airport. You may want to check with a travel agent in Siem Reap first.

Hi, I was a frequent visitor of Cambodia and used their 6month Business Visa Extensions a few times (to give me leeway to get back to Thailand without hassle).

So to read that this is no longer possible now came as quite a shock. However I could live with the current system as long as at least the 3 month extensions are still granted without the need for a work permit…I suppose that is the case as of time of your writing this article?

March 6, 2019 at 3:02 pm

Hi Yves, yes that’s our understanding that 3-month visa extensions are still possible if you have an Ordinary (E) Visa.

Hi Charlene, the Ministry of Immigration will likely only be closed on the official government holidays. You should be able to get it done at the end of April before your trip.

February 19, 2019 at 9:46 am

Hi! Thanks for your post. Quick question! I am in Phnom Penh right now. I inadvertently entered with a T visa I got from the website before my departure. I will need 10 days more than the 3 months they give. 1- Is it possible to extend the Tourist visa even if they say it is not? You seem to imply that. How exactly? You mention going to a travel agency? 2- How can I apply to a E (business) visa now that I am here already? This I suppose would be the way to get an extension: that’s what the officer told me when I got in.

I live near the airport.

Thanks again!!

February 19, 2019 at 8:23 pm

Hi Jeff! It’s our understanding that a 1-month Tourist (T) visa can be extended for 1 more month. I don’t think you can extend a 3-month Tourist visa. You might still want to go into a travel agency to check on that and find out what your options are. I believe the only way to get an Ordinary (E) visa now would be to leave the country and then get an E visa when you enter again instead of a T visa. Hope that helps! Let us know how it goes.

February 21, 2019 at 4:09 pm

Yeah, I’m f**d… The guys at the airport told me to just go and ask for the business visa afterwards, but getting cannot be done without leaving the country. It is the first time in more than 30 years of visiting Cambodia that I have such a problem. I’m pretty upset…

So now I have to organise a trip to the border and reapply for a visa to enter.

Any advice as to how to do these?

Thanks again. I hope it helps others…

March 6, 2019 at 3:22 pm

Hey Jeff, you could either fly or take a bus to cross a border and come back in. Stevo just crossed the Aranyaprathet/Poipet border between Bangkok and Siem Reap with Giant Ibis and that was very simple. They walked everyone on the bus through the whole thing. It’s quite a haul from Phnom Penh to Poipet if that’s where you’re coming from. There are also border crossings in Koh Kong and Pailin. Alternately you could also do a border run to Ho Chi Minh City. It’s better if you can cross and stay at least one day in another country before you return. You should be able to get the Ordinary (E) visa when you come back into Cambodia. Hope that helps and good luck.

I am an EU citizen,I have a Thai girl ( not merry ) (we are both in our 30 years so a retirment visa is not an option) and we have a child who is a Thai citizen.

Rather, we are both unsuitable for working in Cambodia so no one will give us a work permit.

Is there a simple way for us to get 1 year’s visas that we could live a year in Cambodia without any immigration problems?

February 18, 2019 at 12:56 am

As far as we know it’s not possible to stay long-term in Cambodia anymore without a work permit. You might look into other options such as student visas. Best of luck to your family!

I have a 12mth multiple entry visa, do i still need to leave the country and return during this time?

February 1, 2019 at 1:51 am

Hi Pedro, thanks for your question. Multiple-entry means you are able to leave the country and return with the same visa until it expires. But you don’t have to leave during that time if you don’t want to.

Hi Jennifer, I’m planning on doing a day trip to Khsar Prum to extend my Cambodian visa. Once I cross into Thailand do I need to get a Thai tourist visa, if I am only spending a few hours there before I re-enter Cambodia?

February 1, 2019 at 2:03 am

Hi Sarah, it depends what passport you hold whether you need a Thai visa. Americans and many other nationalities get 30 days visa-free entry into Thailand. If that’s the case for you then you would just get a stamp when you go through immigration into Thailand and another stamp when you leave, but no visa is required.

I’m going to Cambodia early next year and was planning to go to Thailand for few days and back to Cambodia again, what kind of visa should I get?

November 19, 2018 at 4:31 pm

As far as we know there isn’t a tourist visa option that is multiple-entry, so you’d have to get a new tourist visa when you go back into Cambodia from Thailand.

At the moment, I am doing a 4-months internship with an NGO in Cambodia. I have entered the country 2 weeks ago with an ordinary tourist visa, which my HR Manager is currently extending for a further month. Within the 2 months, I now need to cross the border and re-enter the country to apply for a 3-months business visa. I understood, this type of visa doesn’t allow for multipe entries, but I want to spend christmas with a couple of friends in Thailand. What options do I have? Are they this strict and won`t let me in after the holidays? So would I need to apply for a new 3-months business visa again? Or shall I try to get a 6-months visa in the first place? Will I then need a work permit as I have been to Cambodia twice? I would very much appreciate your help on this, thanks a lot!!

October 11, 2018 at 11:59 am

Hi Mara, You are correct that if you have a single-entry visa then when you go to Thailand you won’t be able to re-enter Cambodia without a new visa. If you can get a 6-month multiple entry visa, that might be a better option. I’m not sure if you will be able to get it without a work permit though. You can check with the HR manager at your NGO about that. Otherwise, you can just get a new tourist or business visa when you come back to Cambodia after the holidays. Hope that helps!

I am planning to fly into Phnom Penh and I’m taking a one month TEFL certification course and then finding work. I’m flying from the US and on the US embassy website it says I need a letter from a place of work and onward travel. Is this correct? Will I have trouble applying for an ordinary visa on arrival without any paperwork except my passport and pictures. Great article. It was very helpful.

May 16, 2018 at 8:05 pm

Hi Autumn, thanks for your question. As far as we have heard, you do not need a letter from a place of work or proof of onward travel to get an Ordinary (E) visa on arrival. If it is your first time in Cambodia you will be able to extend the (E) visa for 6 months, otherwise you can extend for 3 more months. Good luck with your TEFL course!

' src=

July 16, 2018 at 11:19 am

Actually the agency told me that any E visa obtained on arrival can be extended once for 6 months without the letter of work. So arrive in Cambodia – get E visa 1 month validity, and extend 6 months. After that have to leave the country, but when coming back can get a new 1 month E visa, and extend again 1 time for 6 months.

July 22, 2018 at 10:30 pm

That’s good to hear! What we’d been told is that the 6 month extension is only if it’s your first time in Cambodia. Is that the case for you? It would be great if they have started allowing 6 month E visa extensions for everyone!

Thank you for all of this info! Question: I’m planning to stay 5/6 weeks in Cambodia so I’ll extend my visa while I’m there – what do I write on the arrival card for planned length of stay? 30days in line with the visa limit or be honest?

May 6, 2018 at 12:41 pm

Hi Will! I would just write 30 days to play it safe. It probably wouldn’t matter though!

April 30, 2018 at 9:38 pm

Hello, I want to stay in Cambodia for 3 months, 2 months volunteering and 1 month exploring. I found out that the best option is first 30 days ordinary visa and then extend for 3 months EB visa, right? But you wrote that it’s only possible to extend for 6 or 12 months. Did the law change already? Could i extend it for 3 months? And are the costs for extention still $75-$80?

May 6, 2018 at 12:47 pm

It is also possible to extend an Ordinary (E) visa for 3 months. As far as I know that is still the price of extension. With the new laws that went into effect in 2018 you can only extend for 6 or 12 months if you have a work permit.

I have a question about visa extension. I have just applied for a business visa (valid for 3 months) at the Consulate of Cambodia in HK. But I need a business visa valid for 6 months to be eligible to open an account with the local bank there so that I can make financial transactions on the Net. Do you think I can apply for extension of visa on arrival at the Phnom Penh airport?

May 6, 2018 at 1:01 pm

Hi Lei, I don’t think that you can do visa extensions at the airport. I recommend that you ask at a travel agency when you arrive. Good luck!

Hello Jennifer,

Thank you so much for taking the time to compile all of this information. I hope you might be able to help me out or point me in the right direction. I am volunteering at an orphanage in Anlong Veng. I have been crossing into Thailand with one of the owners every month and coming back to get a new visa each time so have had 3 in total. Obviously I have gone about this in the wrong way. I plan on staying for another 6 months or so and My visa is up again in a week. Is there anyway to convert a T visa to an E? Can I extend my most recent T visa for one month? Would it be as simple as to leave the country and apply for an E visa upon my return? Is it worthwhile to go to an agency in Siem Riep to get assistance. The big issue I’m having right now is getting conflicting information on what I should do and some say I have to leave the country for 15 days before re entering and I need to be here at the end of the month as we have donors coming into town. I’m sorry for all of the questions but sincerely appreciate any assistance you can give as I’m a bit desperate right now. Thanks so much!

March 10, 2018 at 12:04 pm

Sorry, I forgot to ask? Is it best to start to apply for a work permit now similarly to how you instructed Chris below? This is a purely volunteer basis and will therefore be “self employed” and “freelance” I assume, correct? Thanks again Jennifer!

March 10, 2018 at 1:53 pm

Hey Catherine! To be completely honest, I’m not sure if you need a work permit as a volunteer, but I do know you technically need an Ordinary (E) visa to volunteer. The law is constantly changing, so it’s hard to keep up! You should be able to get an Ordinary (E) visa the next time you re-enter the country instead of a tourist visa. It should be $35 instead of $30, and they really don’t ask any questions in our experience. From there you can only get a 3 month extension of your visa, which you can do at a tourism agency in Siem Reap. Since you’ll only be in country for 6 more months you may not need to worry about the work permit at all. To be safe, I would check with the organization where you will be volunteering. Hope that helps! If you find out any information otherwise, please let us know. Cheers!

March 10, 2018 at 3:22 pm

Jennifer, thank you so much for your prompt response! I was just worried that they would have an issue seeing that I have reentered 3 times in a row, but you don’t think that will be an issue? If that’s the case that is great news; I will just plan on crossing into Thailand over the next few days and applying for an E visa. Thanks again for your help!

March 10, 2018 at 3:25 pm

Based on our experience, it should be fine! I haven’t heard of people having issues with coming in several times or switching to the E visa. Hope it all goes smoothly. Keep us posted!

March 14, 2018 at 7:36 pm

Just wanted to thank you again for your advice and your site. Everything went fine as you had anticipated and I now have an E visa that I should be able to renew in a month. So all is good! Thanks again!

Hi Catherine, may I ask you a quick question as I am in a similar situation as you were. March 6, 2018 at 3:50 am

Hello Jennifer Thanks for your great site and information. A question…. I own my own business so am not looking for work, I just want to live in Cambodia. So if I get an Ordinary visa on arrival, then extend for 12 months, will I have any trouble extending again at the end of that year? Thanks in advance.

March 10, 2018 at 8:30 am

Hi Chris, thanks for your comment! It’s really hard to say at this point what will happen with visas in the future, as the rules seem to change every few months. If it is your first time entering Cambodia then we recommend getting the Ordinary (E) visa on arrival and extending for as long as you can (6 or 12 months). If it isn’t your first time in the country then you may only be allowed to extend it for 3 months without proof of a work permit. In that case, since you are self-employed you can apply for your Work Permit online at this website: https://fwcms.mlvt.gov.kh/ and enter “freelance” as both your employer and occupation, and your salary as 0. Hope that helps!

I have been in Cambodia for two weeks and will be here for two and a half months overall. On arrival, I requested an E-visa but was given a tourist visa by mistake (found it strange that the processing only took 2 minutes). I only realised a few days later and now am facing having to leave the country and come back over a weekend. Is there a way I can get an e-visa while Im already in the country/ other options besides bailing to Vietnam?

December 29, 2017 at 5:47 pm

Hey Emmy! You should be able to extend your Tourist visa for one more month. You can visit a travel agency in town, and they can help you out. Unfortunately you can only extend a tourist visa one time without leaving the country, so you’ll have to bail to Vietnam or somewhere else next month if you plan to stay longer. There are cheap flights to Malaysia on Air Asia!

Jennifer you need to correct your article. You have not researched this sufficiently. There are several options for the Ordinary (E) visa and it is still possible to get a 6 or 12 month EG visa without a work permit on the FIRST extension. All subsequent EB extensions will require a work permit.

Hi Philip, thank you for your message. I have been researching and updating this article every time I learn new information. I will look into what you have said as I hadn’t heard that yet. That would be great news!

Once we extend our visa for 6 months . Can we extend the visa again ?

September 22, 2017 at 5:44 pm

I believe that with the new visa laws as of September 4, 2017 you can extend again as long as you have a Work Permit. I suggest that you double check that at a tourism agency.

Hi once we extend our visa for 6 mobths . Can it be extended again ?

November 20, 2018 at 2:04 pm

As of now, it seems to depend on whether you have a work permit. If not, I think you would need to leave the country and get another E visa when you return, then check with a travel agency on whether you can extend for 3 months or 6 months.

I got a one month extension for $48 at a little booth near the corner of Street 130 and the riverside.

Hello Jen and Stevo .. so glad I came across your website. We’re coming to Cambodia for the first time this year, and I’m just trying to get a handle in the visa situation. Can we come into Cambodia with a Tourist Visa .. then visit Vietnam for a month, and then come back into Cambodia on a new Tourist Visa?

Look forward to delving into your information about Cambodia… thanks! Jay

August 20, 2017 at 9:23 am

Hi Jay, thanks for reading! Yes, exactly what you said would be the best way to handle your visas for Cambodia. You can get Cambodian Tourist Visas on arrival at land border crossings or airports. Make sure you have a passport photo, $30USD cash, and at least 6 blank pages in your passport. Cheers! Jen

September 18, 2017 at 7:08 am

Thanks Jennifer … for the ordinary visa is there any documentation you need to show to verify that you’re eligible for this visa type?

September 19, 2017 at 1:21 pm

Hi Jay. For most nationalities there is no documentation needed to show that you’re eligible for the Ordinary (E) visa when you first enter the country. When you want to extend your visa, however, there are some new restrictions that were put in place in September 2017. If it is your first Cambodia visa ever then you may extend your Ordinary (E) visa for 1, 3 or 6 months without proof of a Work Permit. If you have had a Cambodia visa before then you will need a Work Permit in order to extend for 6 or 12 months. Hope that helps!

September 22, 2017 at 4:45 pm

I need multiple visa how can ???

September 22, 2017 at 5:43 pm

6 or 12 month Ordinary (E) visas allow multiple entry. Based on the new visa laws as of September 4, 2017, you can only get a 6 or 12 month Ordinary (E) visa with a Work Permit.

I live in Japan but I plan on going to and from Cambodia over the next year. Can I apply for a multiple entry visa for 1 year online or do I need to go to the embassy? Last time I flew into Siem Reap the folks at the desk had no idea what I was talking about. Any advise you can give is greatly appreciated.

June 15, 2017 at 1:10 pm

Hi Jeff! To my knowledge you cannot apply for a 1 year visa online. The only way I know of doing it is to enter the country on a 1 month Ordinary (E) visa, which you can get at the airport, then extend that for a 1 year Ordinary (E) visa at a travel agency once you are in Cambodia. The one year Ordinary (E) visa should be multiple entry. Hope that helps! If I find out any different information to that I’ll respond on this comment again.

Hello, I’m colombia, south america and I wonder if I can get the E(Ordinary visa) as well? or it depends where you are from? I would like to be there for like 3 months

May 21, 2017 at 2:07 pm

According to this website Colombian nationals can get an (E) Ordinary Visa, formerly known as a Business Visa, on arrival in Cambodia. You can then extend the (E) Ordinary Visa for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months. http://visamap.io/en/tourism/more/visa_requirements_for_Colombia_nationals_travelling_to_Cambodia

I have a question- I’m American , I got a visa extension for my E visa for a year but my passport book is stamped from the airport that I have to depart from the country on such and such date, do I have to still leave?? Because I have my extension already but the date that the stamp says concerns me… although my extension says 2018.. can u help????

February 26, 2017 at 1:39 pm

Your 1-year E Visa overrides the stamp on the departure card, so no worries. You are okay to come and go from Cambodia until the date on your E Visa. Hope that helps!

Obtaining a visa is an essential step in planning your trip to Cambodia. Whether you are visiting for tourism, business, or education purposes, understanding the visa requirements and process is crucial. In this comprehensive guide, we will walk you through everything you need to know about obtaining a visa for Cambodia.

There are several types of visas available for Cambodia, depending on the purpose of your visit. The most common types include tourist visas, business visas, and student visas.

  • Tourist Visas : If you are planning to explore the beautiful temples of Angkor Wat or relax on the stunning beaches of Cambodia, you will need a tourist visa. This visa allows you to stay in the country for up to 30 days.
  • Business Visas : For those who are traveling to Cambodia for business purposes, a business visa is required. This visa permits you to engage in business activities such as attending meetings, conferences, or negotiating contracts. Business visas are typically valid for 30 days but can be extended.
  • Student Visas : Students who wish to pursue their education in Cambodia will need a student visa. This visa allows you to study in Cambodia for a specified duration, usually for the duration of your course.

To obtain a tourist visa for Cambodia, you will need to fulfill certain requirements. Here are the key requirements:

  • Passport : Ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure date from Cambodia.
  • Completed Application Form : Fill out the visa application form accurately and provide all the necessary information.
  • Passport Photos : Attach two recent passport-sized photos to your application form.
  • Proof of Accommodation : Provide a copy of your hotel reservations or a letter of invitation from a Cambodian resident if you are staying with friends or family.
  • Proof of Travel : Show your return flight ticket or a copy of your travel itinerary to prove that you have plans to leave Cambodia.

If you’re planning to visit Cambodia for business purposes, you will need to obtain a business visa. Here are the requirements you need to fulfill:

  • Passport: Ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in Cambodia. It should also have at least one blank page for visa issuance.
  • Visa Application Form: Complete the visa application form accurately and truthfully. You can obtain the form either online or from the Cambodian embassy or consulate in your country.
  • Passport-sized Photos: Attach two recent passport-sized photographs to your application form. The photos should meet the specified criteria such as a white background, no headwear, and a clear facial image.
  • Invitation Letter: Provide an invitation letter from the Cambodian company or organization you will be conducting business with. The letter should state the purpose of your visit, duration of stay, and details of your host organization.
  • Financial Documents: Demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to cover your stay in Cambodia. This may include bank statements, sponsorship letters, or proof of employment and income.
  • Travel Itinerary: Prepare a detailed travel itinerary outlining your business activities in Cambodia. This should include meeting schedules, locations, and the names of individuals or organizations you will be visiting.
  • Supporting Documents: Depending on the nature of your business, you may be required to provide additional documents such as a trade license, company registration certificate, or tax clearance certificate.

Remember to submit your application well in advance to allow for processing time. It’s advisable to consult the Cambodian embassy or consulate in your country for any additional requirements specific to your situation.

If you plan to pursue your studies in Cambodia, you will need to obtain a student visa. The following are the requirements you need to fulfill:

  • Acceptance Letter: Obtain an acceptance letter from a recognized educational institution in Cambodia. This letter should confirm your admission into a program and specify the duration of your studies.
  • Financial Documents: Demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to cover your tuition fees and living expenses in Cambodia. This may include bank statements, sponsorship letters, or proof of scholarships or grants.
  • Health Insurance: Obtain comprehensive health insurance coverage that is valid in Cambodia for the duration of your studies.
  • Criminal Background Check: Some educational institutions may require a criminal background check to ensure the safety and security of their students.

Once you have gathered all the necessary documents, submit your application to the Cambodian embassy or consulate in your country. It’s important to apply well in advance to allow for processing time and to ensure a smooth transition to your studies in Cambodia.

When planning a trip to Cambodia, you have the option of obtaining an e-visa or obtaining a visa on arrival. Both options have their pros and cons, so it’s important to understand the differences before making a decision.

The e-visa is an electronic visa that allows you to apply for a visa online before your trip. Here are some advantages of the e-visa:

  • Convenience: You can apply for the e-visa from the comfort of your own home, saving you time and effort.
  • Faster Processing: The e-visa is usually processed within three business days, allowing you to plan your trip with certainty.
  • Entry Points: The e-visa allows entry through all major airports and land border crossings in Cambodia.
  • Multiple Entries: The e-visa allows for multiple entries into Cambodia within the validity period.

However, there are some limitations to consider when opting for an e-visa:

  • Restricted Duration: The e-visa is valid for a maximum stay of 30 days and cannot be extended.
  • Application Fee: There is a non-refundable processing fee associated with the e-visa application.

Visa on Arrival

The visa on arrival is obtained upon arrival at the airport or land border crossing in Cambodia. Here are some advantages of the visa on arrival:

  • Immediate Availability: You can obtain the visa on arrival upon arrival in Cambodia, eliminating the need for advance application.
  • Longer Duration: The visa on arrival allows for a maximum stay of 30 days, with the option to extend for an additional 30 days.
  • Cost: The visa on arrival fee is generally lower than the e-visa processing fee.

However, there are some considerations when choosing the visa on arrival:

  • Waiting Time: Depending on the time of arrival and the number of passengers, there may be a waiting time at the immigration counter.
  • Payment Method: The visa on arrival fee is typically paid in cash, so it’s important to have the exact amount in USD available.

In conclusion, the choice between the e-visa and visa on arrival depends on your personal preferences and travel plans. If you value convenience and want to ensure a smooth entry into Cambodia, the e-visa is a good option. However, if you are flexible and prefer to obtain your visa upon arrival, the visa on arrival is a viable choice.

Obtaining a visa for Cambodia involves a straightforward application process. Here are the steps you need to follow:

  • Gather Required Documents: Depending on the type of visa you are applying for, gather all the necessary documents as outlined by the Cambodian embassy or consulate in your country.
  • Complete the Application Form: Fill out the visa application form accurately and truthfully. Ensure that you provide all the required information and sign the form where necessary.
  • Attach Supporting Documents: Attach the supporting documents required for your visa application. This may include passport-sized photos, invitation letters, financial documents, or any other documents specified by the embassy or consulate.
  • Pay the Application Fee: Pay the visa application fee as specified by the embassy or consulate. This fee is non-refundable, so ensure that you have the necessary funds available.
  • Submit Your Application: Submit your completed application form, supporting documents, and payment to the Cambodian embassy or consulate in your country. You may need to do this in person or via mail, depending on the requirements of the embassy or consulate.
  • Wait for Processing: Once your application is submitted, it will undergo processing. The processing time may vary, but it is typically within three to five business days. During this time, avoid making any travel plans until you have received your visa.
  • Obtain Your Visa: Once your visa is approved, you will receive it either in person or via mail, depending on the procedures of the embassy or consulate. Check the visa for accuracy and ensure that the dates of validity align with your travel plans.

It’s important to note that the visa application process may vary slightly depending on the country you are applying from. Therefore, it’s advisable to consult the official embassy website or a trusted travel agency for country-specific instructions and requirements.

If you wish to extend your stay in Cambodia beyond the validity of your visa or if your visa is about to expire, you have the option to extend or renew your visa. The process for visa extension and renewal is as follows:

  • Determine Eligibility: Check if you are eligible for a visa extension or renewal. Certain visas, such as the tourist visa, can be extended, while others, such as the business visa, may require you to exit the country and reapply for a new visa.
  • Prepare Required Documents: Gather the necessary documents for your visa extension or renewal. This may include your passport, visa application form, passport-sized photos, proof of accommodation, and financial documents.
  • Visit the Immigration Department: Go to the nearest immigration office or the General Department of Immigration in Phnom Penh to submit your application. Alternatively, you can hire the services of a reputable visa agency to assist you with the process.
  • Pay the Fees: Pay the required fees for your visa extension or renewal. The fees may vary depending on the type of visa and the duration of the extension or renewal.
  • Wait for Processing: The processing time for visa extensions or renewals can take several days. During this time, avoid any travel plans that may conflict with the expected processing time.
  • Collect Your Extended or Renewed Visa: Once your visa extension or renewal is approved, collect your new visa from the immigration office or the visa agency you used. Verify the details on the visa for accuracy before leaving the office.

It’s important to note that visa extensions and renewals are subject to approval by the Cambodian immigration authorities. It’s advisable to start the process well in advance of your visa’s expiration to avoid any potential issues or overstays.

When applying for a visa for Cambodia, it’s essential to be aware of the fees and costs associated with the application process. The following are the typical fees you can expect:

  • Visa Application Fee: The visa application fee varies depending on the type of visa and the duration of stay. For example, at the time of writing, the tourist visa fee is $30 for a one-month single-entry visa, while the business visa fee is $35 for a one-month single-entry visa.
  • Visa Extension Fee: If you need to extend your stay in Cambodia, a visa extension fee will apply. The fee varies depending on the type of visa and the duration of the extension. For example, the tourist visa extension fee is $45 for one month, while the business visa extension fee is $155 for one month.
  • Overstay Fine: If you overstay your visa in Cambodia, you will be subject to an overstay fine. The fine is $10 per day for overstays of up to 30 days. For overstays exceeding 30 days, the fine increases to $6 per day.
  • Additional Costs: Depending on your situation, you may incur additional costs such as transportation fees to the embassy or consulate, passport photo fees, or fees for document translation or notarization.

It’s important to note that visa fees and costs are subject to change. Therefore, it’s advisable to consult the official embassy website or a trusted travel agency for the most up-to-date information on fees and costs associated with obtaining a visa for Cambodia.

If you have a business visa extension or a work permit, then you are permitted to work in Cambodia. However, you will need to make sure that your employer has obtained the necessary permits and licenses to hire foreign workers.

If you have a tourist visa extension, you are not permitted to work in Cambodia. Working without the proper documentation can result in fines, deportation, and possibly even imprisonment.

Consequences of overstaying a visa in Cambodia

Overstaying a visa in Cambodia can have serious consequences.

If you overstay your visa by a short period of time, you may be subject to a fine or be required to pay an overstay fee. The overstay fee is currently $10 per day, up to a maximum of $250. However, the fee may change and it is always recommended to check with the immigration authorities for the most up-to-date information.

If you overstay your visa for an extended period of time, you may be detained, deported, or banned from entering Cambodia in the future. Overstaying your visa is considered a violation of Cambodian immigration laws, and can result in fines, detention, or deportation.

In addition, overstaying your visa can make it difficult or impossible to obtain future visas or residency permits in Cambodia or other countries. It is always best to ensure that you have the proper documentation and comply with all visa regulations while in Cambodia. If you need to stay in Cambodia for a longer period of time, it is recommended that you apply for a visa extension before your current visa expires.

Cambodia is a beautiful country located in Southeast Asia, known for its rich history, stunning temples, and bustling cities. For travelers looking to visit Cambodia, one of the most important things to consider is the visa requirements for entry into the country. Fortunately, for many visitors, Cambodia offers a visa on arrival option, which makes the process of obtaining a visa much easier and more convenient.

The Cambodia visa on arrival is available to citizens of most countries, including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. This means that travelers can apply for their visa when they arrive in Cambodia, rather than having to obtain it in advance from a Cambodian embassy or consulate.

To apply for a Cambodia visa on arrival, travelers will need to have a valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining, a recent passport-sized photo, and the visa fee in cash (USD). The fee for a Cambodia visa on arrival varies depending on the length of stay and the purpose of the visit, but typically ranges from $30 to $35 USD.

The visa on arrival process in Cambodia is relatively straightforward. Upon arrival at the airport or border crossing, travelers will need to fill out a visa application form and provide their passport and photo to the immigration officials. They will also need to pay the visa fee in cash. Once the visa is processed, travelers will receive a stamp in their passport allowing them to enter Cambodia.

It is important to note that the visa on arrival option is only available at certain entry points in Cambodia, including international airports in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville, as well as at the land borders with Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos. Additionally, travelers must have a clear criminal record and no previous immigration violations in Cambodia or other countries. If a traveler has been previously deported or banned from entering Cambodia or any other country, they may not be eligible for a visa on arrival and may need to obtain a visa in advance.

Tips for Smooth Cambodia Visa on Arrival Process

Bring the necessary documents: Be sure to have a valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining, a recent passport-sized photo, and the correct visa fee amount in cash (USD) ready.

Complete the visa application form accurately: Make sure to fill out the visa application form accurately and completely. Any errors or omissions can cause delays in the processing of the visa.

Check the visa stamp: After receiving the visa stamp in your passport, check that the length of stay and purpose of the visit are correct before leaving the immigration counter.

Be patient: The processing time for the visa on arrival can vary depending on the number of travelers arriving and the efficiency of the immigration officials. Be patient and allow plenty of time for the visa to be processed.

Have a pen ready: Bring a pen with you to fill out the visa application form and any other necessary documents.

Dress appropriately: Dress appropriately and respectfully, especially when visiting temples or other religious sites.

Have a backup plan: In case of any unexpected delays or issues with the visa on arrival process, have a backup plan and be prepared to adjust your travel plans accordingly.

By following these tips, you can help ensure a smooth and hassle-free Cambodia Visa on Arrival process.

The maximum duration of a Cambodia visa extension varies depending on the type of visa you have and the reason for your extended stay. Generally, visa extensions are granted for up to 6 months at a time, but it's best to check with the Cambodian immigration office or a reputable visa agency for specific information.

It's possible to apply for a visa extension even if you have overstayed your visa, but there may be penalties and consequences for doing so. It's recommended to consult with the Cambodian immigration office or a reputable visa agency for guidance on how to proceed.

If you hold a valid work permit, you may be able to work in Cambodia with a visa extension. However, you should check with the Cambodian immigration office or a reputable visa agency to confirm the requirements and restrictions for working in Cambodia.

The processing time for a Cambodia visa extension can vary depending on the workload of the immigration office, but it generally takes a few days to a week. It's best to plan accordingly and apply for the visa extension well in advance of your visa's expiration date.

It's not recommended to travel outside of Cambodia while your visa extension is being processed, as this could result in complications and delays. It's best to wait until your visa extension has been approved before making any travel plans.

Overstaying a visa in Cambodia can result in fines, detention, deportation, and a ban on future entry to Cambodia. It's best to apply for a visa extension or leave the country before your visa expires to avoid these consequences.

According to the search results, it may be necessary to provide a passport-size photograph (4×6 cm) for visa applications in Vietnam, including for visa extensions. The photograph should be recent, in color, and have a solid, plain bright background.
  • Do a “visa run” by exiting Cambodia and re-entering to get a new 30-day tourist visa. Popular visa run destinations include Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos.

E-Class Business Visa

  • Apply for a 1-month, 3-month or 6-month E-class business visa which allows multiple entries. You’ll need a local sponsoring business for the application.

More about Ordinary (E) visas

  • Ordinary (E) visas can be renewed for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months at the Cambodian National Police Immigration Department, depending on your needs. When extending your visa, you must have all required documentation pertaining to your purpose in Cambodia with you.

Retirement Visa

  • Long-stay retiree visas are available if you are 50+ years old and meet the financial requirements. This provides a 1-year extendable stay permit.

For tourists, Cambodia is an accessible and magical destination full of natural wonders and extremely welcoming locals. From temple complexes to vibrant street markets, Cambodia has gems all across its diverse landscape. It is home to urban centers with long, complex histories, as well as mountainous regions, coastal destinations, and low-altitude plains.

Most foreign nationals can apply for a Cambodia tourist visa online or they can obtain a visa on arrival at any eligible port of entry. Some foreign nationals are exempt from the Cambodian visa requirements. Citizens of Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Viet Nam, Thailand, Indonesia, and Brunei can travel to Cambodia visa-free. Depending on their nationality, foreign nationals from these countries can stay in Cambodia for a period of 14 or 30 days.

A Cambodia tourist visa is specifically issued for any travelers coming to Cambodia to engage in short-term activities such as tourism, visiting family and friends, or attending cultural events.

The tourist visa is designed for tourist purposes only. For other travel purposes, Cambodia offers a variety of other visa types.

The Cambodia tourist visa is valid for three months, but the maximum duration of stay is 30 days. All tourist visas are issued with a single entry. A tourist visa can be extended for an additional 30 days at the Cambodian Immigration Office.

Cambodia Tourist Visa Requirements

The required materials and documents will vary depending on whether the applicant is submitting their visa application online (eVisa) or through a foreign mission (sticker visa).

The following are the basic requirements for Cambodia sticker visa applicants:

The applicant should hold a passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry in Cambodia.

Application materials sent by post or dropped off at an embassy or consulate will need to include a photocopy of the applicant’s passport bio page. The bio page is the main identification page in a passport that has the holder’s personal details, photograph, passport number, and other key pieces of information.

The applicant is required to submit one recent personal photo that is standard passport-sized against a white background.

Applicants can print out the application form and complete it manually.

Payment methods will vary depending on the foreign mission where the applicant submits their application.

In addition to a valid passport and personal photo, the following is required to apply for Cambodia tourist eVisa:

Applicants should provide hotel booking during their stay in Cambodia.

Applicants must register their application with a valid email. This will also be their contact to receive updates regarding the status of the visa application.

For the tourist eVisa, payment can be done using a valid credit or debit card.

Cambodia Visa Application Steps

Whether applying online, by post, or in person at a Cambodian embassy or consulate, applying for a Cambodian visa is a straightforward process. However, the steps for the sticker visa and the eVisa will vary slightly.

Foreign nationals applying for a Cambodia tourist sticker visa can follow these steps:

Tourist sticker visa application forms will be printed, completed, and included with the other application materials.

Applicants must prepare all required documents before submitting their application.

The submission of the visa application form and required documents for processing at the nearest Cambodian embassy or consulate can be done either by post or in person, depending on the specific requirements of the embassy or consulate.

Applicants can pay their visa fee at a Cambodian embassy or consulate or by post using one of the approved methods of payment. The payment method will depend on the foreign mission where the application is submitted.

Foreign nationals applying for a Cambodia tourist eVisa can follow these steps:

Applicants can fill in the eVisa application and upload the required documents online through the official portal .

Applicants can pay online with a valid credit or debit card.

All applications must be completed accurately and submitted for processing online.

The eVisa will be sent to the applicant's email.

The Cambodia tourist visa is very affordable. Applicants who submit their tourist visa application online will pay 30 USD plus a 6 USD processing fee.

The cost of the Cambodia tourist sticker visa will vary depending on the embassy or consulate where the application is submitted. Applicants should contact their nearest foreign mission to confirm the required fees.

Most Cambodia tourist visa applications can be completed and submitted online. Applicants will receive an eVisa that they can use to travel to Cambodia. All other nationalities can apply by post or by submitting their application in person at the nearest embassy or consulate. The method they select will depend on what is accepted at their nearest embassy or consulate.

The processing time for a Cambodia tourist visa will vary depending on how the applicant submits their visa application. Online applications will take around three business days.

The processing time for a posted or in-person Cambodia visa can vary depending on the foreign mission where the application is submitted and the complexity of the visa application.

If the tourist visa is approved, the applicant can begin their preparations to travel to Cambodia. eVisa holders are advised to download and print the official eVisa certificate and bring it with them when they arrive at the border control. Regular sticker visa holders will receive their passports with the visa inside or be requested to come and pick up their passports from the embassy or consulate where they applied.

Tourist visa holders who are interested in extending their visa for an additional 30 days can do so by visiting the Cambodia Immigration Office in the capital city of Phnom Penh.

A Cambodia tourist visa is a document that allows a foreign national to legally enter the country for a fixed duration of time. It is a single-entry visa for the sole purpose of engaging in short-term tourism activities.

A Cambodia tourist visa can be applied for online (eVisa), by post, or through an official Cambodia representation office (embassy or consulate).

A Cambodia tourist visa is valid for three months, but the maximum duration of stay is 30 days.

“Mastering the Cambodian Visa Process: Your Comprehensive Guide to E-type Visas and Extensions of Stay”

tourist visa extension cambodia

Cambodia, a Southeast Asian nation best known for its rich history and stunning landscapes, has become an increasingly popular destination for travelers and expats alike. Whether you’re visiting for business, retirement, or education purposes, understanding the Cambodian visa process is essential.

This comprehensive guide will walk you through the steps to obtain an E-type (Ordinary) Visa, apply for an Extension of Stay (EOS), and manage the latest updates in visa regulations.

Obtaining an E-type (Ordinary) Visa

When entering Cambodia, you must obtain an E-type (Ordinary) Visa, which costs $35 upon arrival and is valid for one month. This visa is often mistakenly referred to as the Business Visa. For most nationalities, no supporting documents or passport photos are required. It’s crucial to have the visa fee in clean, crisp USD bills, preferably exact change.

Upon arrival in Cambodia, it’s essential to tick on the immigration card or inform the immigration officer that you require an E-type (Ordinary) Visa, as failing to do so may result in receiving a Tourist Visa instead.

As of January 12th, 2023, the E-type (Ordinary) Visa can be applied for online in advance by all nationalities through the official website, www.evisa.gov.kh. Note that some nationalities have different supporting documentation requirements.

Applying for an Extension of Stay (EOS)

Once in Cambodia, you’ll need to apply for an EOS before your visa expiration date. There are several EOS categories available, with varying lengths and renewal options:

  • EB (Business/Employment) EOS: 1, 3, 6, or 12-month options; renewable indefinitely
  • ER (Retirement) EOS: 1, 3, 6, or 12-month options; renewable indefinitely
  • ES (Student) EOS: 1, 3, 6, or 12-month options; renewable indefinitely
  • EG (General) EOS: 1 or 3-month options; one-time use only, cannot be renewed in-country
  • EP (Proposal – seeking employment/business opportunities) EOS: 1 or 3-month options; one-time use only, can convert to EB EOS with necessary documentation
  • Only the 6 and 12-month EOS options are valid for multi-entry/exit.

Each EOS category has its own supporting documentation requirements, but the minimum requirements for all include:

  • A valid passport with at least 6 months of remaining validity from the EOS expiration date
  • At least two blank visa pages in your passport
  • One passport photo
  • A completed EOS application form (most agents will complete this on your behalf)
  • A screenshot of your FPCS details
  • Work Permit ( Depending on the situation)

EOS application costs via a visa agency vary depending on the agency and location. The average processing time for EOS applications is 7-10 business days, but you should allow up to 14 business days. For faster processing, you can pay an additional $70 – 100 for express processing (next day) through a visa agency.

Alternatively, you can apply for your EOS directly at the Department of Immigration (DoI) Visa Office in Pochentong, Phnom Penh. However, you must have all the necessary supporting documentation. The official fee for a 12-month EOS when applying directly is $180.

Enforcement of Visa Extension of Stay Requirements

As of October 17th, 2022, there has been stricter enforcement of visa extension requirements. Key points include:

  • Additional documentation required for the EB (Business) EOS, such as a Work Permit card, Employment Letter, and a company patent tax license.
  • Restrictions on EOS options for those without a Work Permit or employment letter.
  • Different supporting documentation requirements for those married to a Cambodian citizen or applying as a non-working dependent spouse.
  • EG (General) EOS is now only available for 1 or 3 months, with no 6-month options.
  • In-country conversion from an EG EOS to another EOS category is no longer allowed.

Navigating the Cambodian visa process may seem daunting, but understanding the requirements and staying up-to-date with the latest regulations will ensure a smooth experience. Whether you’re visiting Cambodia for business, retirement, or education, this comprehensive guide will help you manage your visa needs and enjoy your stay in this beautiful country.

2. On arrival at the airport

Passengers can get a tourist visa on arrival in Cambodia. Tourists visas are issued at major international checkpoints.

However, you must spend a lot of time waiting in line and dealing with the application, which is not ideal after the long journey to Cambodia.

To avoid delays on arrival at the airport, tourists are advised to use the eVisa system and get their visas in advance.

3. At a Cambodian Embassy

Tourist visas are also available in advance at Cambodian embassies. Travelers who are not able to apply online can contact their nearest Cambodia embassy.

Applicants need to send the required documents, including the passport, by mail or visit the embassy in person. Embassy applications take much longer to process. Travelers need to begin the process well ahead of their trip.

Documents to Apply for a Cambodian Tourist Visa

Whether applying online, on arrival, or at the embassy, tourists must meet Cambodia’s visa requirements .

The simple online Cambodia tourist visa application only needs the following documents:

  • Passport — this must be valid for at least 6 months after arriving in Cambodia
  • Passport-style photo

Electronic Type-T visa applicants fill out the form online and upload the passport copy and passport photo digitally.

However, if applying on arrival or at the embassy, paper copies of the required documents must be provided.

Cambodia Tourist Visa Form

Travelers need to complete the Cambodia tourism visa form.

This can be filled out online using the eVisa system. Tourists need to provide the following information:

  • Personal details —name, gender, date of birth
  • Passport data — number, issue and expiry date
  • Travel information —intended date of entry

It is easy to correct errors when completing the form electronically . Data can be deleted and replaced.

If filling out the form by hand, travelers must make sure that the information is clearly legible . It is advisable to start a new form if a mistake is made, rather than crossing out.

Forms with inaccurate or incomplete information will not be accepted, potentially disrupting travel plans.

How to Extend a Cambodia Tourist Visa

Tourist visa holders must travel to the Kingdom of Cambodia within 3 months of receiving their eVisa. Tourists can then remain in the country for up to 30 days .

Visitors who wish to remain in the country longer should contact the Department of Immigration in Phnom Penh to apply for a 30-day extension.

Many travelers find it easier to simply leave Cambodia for a few days and visit a neighboring country, and use that time to apply for a new 30-day tourist eVisa online.

Given the ease and convenience of the online application, this is often preferable to dealing with the Type-T visa extension paperwork in person, and allows you to explore another Southeast Asian country in the meantime.

Travel to Cambodia with a Tourist eVisa

With an electronic tourist visa for Cambodia, you can enter the country through the following international airports:

  • Phnom Penh (PNH)
  • Siem Reap (REP)

Cambodia Tourist Visa and Current Travel Guidelines

tourist visa extension cambodia

Cambodia is a country whose international appeal to tourists has been steadily increasing over the years.

Sandwiched between Thailand and Vietnam , the two most popular countries for tourists in Southeast Asia, Cambodia was once a place that backpackers would use as a bridge between more well-trodden ports of call.

Now though, Cambodia is much more than a stepping stone, it is an outright destination, which is reflected in the consistent annual spikes in foreigners applying for and receiving a Cambodia tourist visa.

To facilitate this process, Cambodian tourism officials have implemented an eVisa for citizens of several countries, with the list growing to include more nations. Recently, officials introduced an option for passport holders from India, hoping to tap into one of the largest populations in the world with the Cambodia eVisa for Indians .

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Visitors need a visa to enter Cambodia.

  • T category visas – tourism
  • Category E visa – Business trip
  • Visa category B – Official visa
  • Category C Visa – Guest Visa
  • before entry
  • online as e-visa

If you decide to apply before entering the country, you must contact a Cambodian mission abroad, such as the embassy in Berlin. The visa is valid for three months and entitles you to stay for 30 days from the date of entry.

For those who prefer to apply for a visa online, there is the option of an e-visa. This is available for categories T (tourist) and E (business), but is only valid at certain border crossings. It is recommended to apply at least two weeks before the planned trip and to pay the visa fee by bank or credit card, Paypal or bank transfer.

Alternatively, it is possible to apply for a visa on arrival. This also applies to categories T and E and is available at the three international airports (Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Sihanoukville) for a fee. The visa is only valid for one entry and one exit. When entering the country, the entry/exit form must be used, which also serves as an application for an “on arrival” visa.

You can extend your T and E visas before the 30 days expire at the Ministry of Interior Immigration Office near Phnom Penh Airport.

If you have a category T visa, you can extend it once for another 30 days (for single entry and exit). Category E visas can be extended up to 12 months and allow multiple entries and exits after the extension.

When applying for an extension, the purpose of the stay must be stated and supported. It is not possible to convert an E visa into a B or C visa (permanent residence) on the spot, or only in exceptional cases.

Those who exceed the permitted length of stay must pay an “ overstay fee ” of USD 10 per day and apply for an exit visa, which is issued for a maximum of seven days.

If your passport with the Cambodian visa is lost or stolen, you must apply for a Cambodian exit visa in addition to your travel document. The Cambodian exit visa is valid for a maximum of seven days, even if the original visa would have been valid for longer.

The coronavirus pandemic and resulting fallout had an enormous impact on Cambodia. As was the case with any nation that derives such a large percentage of its GDP from its tourism sector, the March 23rd, 2020 closing of its borders shut off the income stream for millions of Cambodians who rely on foreign visitors for their livelihood.

With that in mind, motivation has remained high to work to contain the COVID-19 virus to once again be able to welcome tourists back into the country at or approaching the pre-pandemic levels.

The border with Thailand is only partially open. However, the country’s infrastructure leaves much to be desired, as buses, trains and ships generally do not meet other countries’ safety standards. Caution is also advised when flying domestically, as the safety standards of Cambodian airlines are not comparable to those in Europe or North America.

Roads are usually in poor condition and riding a bicycle or motorcycle is not recommended for safety reasons. In some areas, motorcycling is even prohibited for foreigners. However, helmets are mandatory, although motorcycle taxi drivers usually cannot provide helmets for their passengers.

Internet and cell phone coverage is not universal and is not always available, especially in remote areas and on smaller islands.

It is recommended that all overland travel be planned to reach the destination before nightfall. A suitable helmet should always be worn when traveling by motorcycle or scooter.

According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport in Phnom Penh, if you are a tourist traveling to Cambodia for a short period of time (category T visa), you only need an international driver’s license that is valid in combination with your national driver’s license.

Please note that only the vehicle classes listed on your driver’s license are allowed. In addition, you should carefully follow the traffic rules in Cambodia to be safe on the road.

After applying for and receiving a valid Cambodian eVisa, and also verifying that travelers can enter the country, there are a ton of reasons to take a trip or even volunteer in Cambodia .

The most consistent of these reasons is certainly the temple and palace structures that can be found throughout the country. The famous Angkor Wat temple not only attracts hordes of visitors daily, but it even adorns the country’s flag, showing its importance to the nation and its people.

Angkor Wat is hardly the only draw for foreigners looking to experience Cambodian culture. There is often a misconception that Angkor Wat is a standalone temple somewhere out in the jungle when that is not the case at all.

Siem Reap, the town that functions as the jumping-off point for a trip to Angkor Wat, features an entire temple complex that houses Khmer (Cambodian people) structures, buildings, and temples made from stone such as the Bayon Temple, Angkor Thom, and the Terrace of the Elephants.

There can be a lot of misinformation from companies and individuals looking to take advantage of clueless tourists, so it is always best to read up on tips for visiting Cambodia and, more especially, Siem Reap before departing.

Angkor Wat, volunteer in Cambodia

Understanding and respecting local customs and ways of life is the absolute bare minimum that visitors should do before entering a country. Every country and people have their specific ways of doing things and unique cuisine and Cambodia is no different.

The importance of understanding a country is elevated even more while the coronavirus remains a threat. Just because a country is issuing tourist visas does not mean that the country is going to be completely open for business.

States, counties, cities, and even individual neighborhoods or locales may have their guidelines or restrictions, so anyone who plans to visit Cambodia should research not just the general government-issued regulations, but also the local ones depending on where they are planning to visit.

Extending your Visa in Cambodia

tourist visa extension cambodia

Due to the coronavirus lockdown , extending your visa in Cambodia is now probably a necessity. Here’s how to do it.

For most visitors to Cambodia you will enter on a tourist visa on arrival, or through the e-visa (online visa), both of which are usually valid for one month, and under normal circumstances can be extended for a further month by paying a fee of around $60. After that, you would be required to then leave the country to either change your visa or get a new one.

This has, of course, changed with the new policy of not only not granting these visas, but with the county mostly being on lockdown , this has left a lot of foreigners in limbo.

This limbo was taken away (to an extent) when the government announced they would allow extensions of more than one month , but how does this work in the real world? We are very happy to tell you!

If you have not extended your visa, you will have to extend doing the normal process at least once. The cost for this around $60, with there being numerous agents in multiple cities who can help with this. The time to do this visa extension is between 8-12 days, but this is something you will need to speak directly to your agent about. Cambodia charges $10 per day for visa overstays, and it is unclear if this will still be the case during coronavirus.

If you were to extend today, you would get your visa around April 11th, valid until May 11th, a time when multiple borders are still likely to be closed and travel generally still frowned upon. This is where the main change takes place. Instead of the 1-month prohibition on extensions, it is now possible to extend at least one more time, which would take anyone currently in Cambodia to at least June. It has actively been implied that further extensions will be made available, and at around $5 per extension, rather than the previously mentioned $60 for the first extension.

If during this time, travel restrictions are loosened, or borders such as Thailand are opened, it is possible to leave the country and change to an “ordinary visa,” which can thus be swapped into a business visa that offers up to 12-month extensions!

A lot of this information is available online, but we hope it helps fellow Pioneers in exodus here. It’s a holiday in Cambodia indeed!

Cambodia Visa and Residence: Everything US Citizens Need to Know

Cambodia Visa and Residence

Cambodia has made it as simple as possible for foreign tourists, expat professionals, and retirees to visit and live in the “Kingdom of Wonder,” with some of the most flexible visa regulations in the region.

Visitors to Cambodia have two options for obtaining an entry visa: apply for an e-visa online or simply get your visa on arrival at the airport.

For short-term visitors, the e-visa is by far the best option as it can be easily applied for in advance of your travels via the Cambodian government’s dedicated website . They have made it an incredibly simple process where you fill in an online application, pay a $30 visa fee and $7 processing charge, and then within three business days you will receive a 30-day single entry tourist visa.

This is convenient for tourists, but if you are planning to stay in Cambodia for longer than 30 days then you should instead get a visa on arrival.

The visa on arrival process is almost as straightforward as the e-visa option but is done in person at immigration when you arrive in Cambodia’s international airports of Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville .

The requirements are very clear and all you need is a passport that’s valid for at least six months and has a spare page to receive a full-page visa, as well as two passport-sized photos. You will also be asked to fill in a short immigration form that will be provided to you at the airport.

Once the immigration officers confirm you have met these requirements you will need to make it clear what type of visa you’re looking for. There are currently two visa options available:

  • A single-entry tourist visa valid for 30 days for a fee of $30, which can be given a one-time extension for a maximum of 30 days at a cost of $45.
  • An “ordinary” or “business” visa valid for 30 days for a fee of $35, which can be further extended on an ongoing basis.

Because the ordinary/business visa can be extended almost indefinitely it makes it the option most suitable for expats.

The process of extending your visa is even more convenient than the already simple process of obtaining the visa in the first place. All you need to do is visit a travel agency, provide them with your passport, and to select one of the following extension and fee options:

  • One Month Single Entry Visa Extension for a $45 fee
  • Three Month Single Entry Visa Extension for a $75 fee
  • Six Month Multiple Entry Visa Extension for a $150 fee
  • 12 Month Multiple Entry Visa Extension for a $285 fee

It should be noted that the one- and three-month options do not permit you to leave the country, while the six- and 12-month options allow you to go back and forth as often as you like. Also, each visa extension takes up an entire page in your passport, so you should aim to get the longest visa extension possible.

The travel agency handles all the arrangements and will usually be able to get your visa extended within one to three business days. All you have to do is make sure your passport still has spare pages for the new visa extension stamp as well as more than six months’ validity.

Once your passport is returned to you with the 12-month extension then you are free to live anywhere you wish in Cambodia and you can leave and re-enter the country as many times as you like with no further requirements or additional paperwork necessary. You are completely set for an entire year and when the 12 months is up all you have to do is visit your local travel agent and ask them to arrange a new extension for you.

It is quick, easy, and simple.

When people say “Welcome to Cambodia,” they really mean it!

Was it the right decision to get a visa extension?

Who can say for sure? Financially, no. The cost of overstaying for two days would have been $20, but I paid $50 for the extension, so I paid an extra $30 just to stay within the rules.

I was slightly dubious about leaving my passport with an agent who was then responsible for transporting it to Phnom Penh and back. My biggest fear was that it'd get lost in transit, but there were no issues, so in that sense it was a good decision.

Would I have encountered issues either boarding my flight to Thailand, or getting potentially banned from re-entering Cambodia if I hadn't done the extension?

I think almost certainly not, but who knows? For me the extra $30 was worth it to mitigate the 1% chance of either of these happening.

In terms of going through immigration when leaving Cambodia, if anything the visa extension raised suspicion because the officials couldn't understand why I'd got an extension only to stay for two more days.

I've been travelling for half my life and I never have any problems at immigration, except in Cambodia. For some reason Cambodian border officials just don't like me. Given the shit I had to go through because they can't count to thirty, I'm not really a fan of theirs either.

On top of this, my name had been added to my visa as 'Jethro Citizen'. They'd copied my first name, but rather than writing my second name, instead copied from the next line which said 'British Citizen', so according to Cambodia, my name is now 'Jethro Citizen'.

I quite like it.

Worse still was that when trying to leave the country, they couldn't actually understand their own visas. I'd been in Cambodia in December, left to Vietnam for a month, then come back in February and got this extension. That meant there were three different documents in my passport, and they really had trouble reading the dates on them.

I had two officials interrogating me, and they kept asking me why I'd been in Cambodia since December.

"I haven't," I kept on telling them. "I left in January and came back a month ago."

They couldn't get it. Eventually I got through, but not before they did a lot of typing on their computer while looking at me disparagingly, so my intent of getting a visa extension in order to mitigate any black marks on my name might have been in vain. This visa extension seemed to cause more problems than it solved when leaving Cambodia, so it was probably a waste of $30. If you ever find yourself in the same situation, I think I'd advise to just overstay for two days.

Cambodia Entry Visa

A Cambodian visa is required for almost all foreign nationalities visiting Cambodia. Usually it’s quite easy to obtain a visa, but please read the following information carefully before planning your trip to Cambodia. Also make sure to check with a travel agent in your home country, if there are any specific requirements for your country, since visa regulations are subject to change.

Cambodia has lifted any COVID-19 requirements as of October 3, 2022.

Passport and Visa Requirements

You need an international passport, issued by your country and valid for at least six months starting from the entry date in Cambodia. You’ll also need one passport-size photograph, taken no more then 12 months ago.

The nationals of Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam and Myanmar do not need a tourist visa and may stay in Cambodia for between 14 and 30 days. More information here .

Visa Types and Fees

Cambodia offers several visa types to visitors of the country, from which the tourist and business visa are the most common ones.

Tourist (T) Visa

A tourist visa (T-type) costs US$30 and is valid for 30 days. Tourist visas can be extended 1 time for an extra period of 30 days. Several travel agents in town offer the visa extension service, which normally costs around $50 including service fee.

Ordinary (E) Visa

An ordinary visa (E-type), often referred to as a business visa , costs US$35 and is valid for 30 days. This visa can be extended indefinitely for 1 month, 3 months, 6 months or 1 year at a time, 6 and 12 month visas allow the holder multiple entries into Cambodia. If you have a 1 or 3 month visa and you leave Cambodia, your visa becomes void and you will need a new one if you re-enter Cambodia. Prices to extend range from $50 for a 1 month extension to $290 for a 1 year extension.

Since August 2016, the following extensions of stay are available for the E-type visa: EB (business), EG (general), ER (retirement), ES (student), ET (technician), EP (proposal). Most foreigners who intend to stay long term in Cambodia apply for the EB type visa. If you are aged above 55 years old and have no intention to work, then you can also apply for the ER (retirement) visa.

Khmer (K) Visa

The K-type visa can only be given to Cambodian descendants that enter Cambodia with a foreign passport. They need to have valid documents to show that one or both of their parents are Cambodian citizens. The K-visa will be issued one time and is free of charge. The visa will allow the applicants to enter the Cambodian kingdom an unlimited number of times.

Diplomatic (A), Official (B) and Courtesy (C) Visa

Diplomatic, Official and Courtesy visas are provided for free, but you will have to meet very specific requirements for these visa types.

Applying for a Cambodian Visa

Most people apply for a visa on arrival in Cambodia. However, it’s also possible to obtain a visa beforehand by applying for it online or by contacting an overseas Cambodian embassy.

Visa on Arrival

A Cambodian visa on arrival can be purchased on entering the country, either at one of the international airports or at one of the official checkpoints when crossing the border by land.

There are currently only two international airports in Cambodia, one in Cambodia’s capital Phnom Penh and one in Siem Reap. Cambodian visas are available at both of these airports.

Read our in-dept guide about the new Siem Reap airport , including arrival tips and an overview of transport options into town.

If you are entering Cambodia by land, you can apply for a visa at one of the official checkpoints. These checkpoints are available at the following border crossings:

  • Border crossings with Thailand: Poipet, Cham Yeam (Koh Kong), O’Smach
  • Border crossings with Vietnam: Bavet, Kha Orm Sam Nor
  • Border crossing with Laos: Dom Kralor

The Poipet border crossing:  Since most tourists coming from Thailand pass by the Poipet border crossing, queues can sometimes get very long. Try to arrive early morning at the border, lunch time is very busy and avoid weekends if you don’t want to lose time. Read this detailed overview of traveling from Bangkok to Siem Reap via Poipet , if you plan to follow this route.

Good to know: When you apply for a visa on arrival in Cambodia and fail to provide the required photograph, the official will usually charge you US$1 extra on top of the applicable visa fee. Additionally, when you apply for a visa on arrival at overland borders, expect to pay an extra couple of dollars on top of the advertised fee.

Online: e-Visa

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has established a system to process an online visa for Cambodia, called the e-Visa . You will have to complete the online application and provide a scan of your passport and photo (4×6). You will have to pay US$35 by credit card (US$30 for the visa and US$5 processing charge). The processing time will take 3 days and it permits you to stay for 30 days in Cambodia. It is valid for 3 months from the issuing date. The visa gets issued to your email, it’s your responsibility to print it.

You can enter Cambodia with an e-Visa via the following international airports and overland border crossings:

  • Siem Reap – Angkor International Airport
  • Phnom Penh International Airport
  • Border crossings with Thailand: Poipet, Cham Yeam (Koh Kong)
  • Border crossing with Vietnam: Bavet

You can apply for the e-Visa on the following website: https://www.evisa.gov.kh/ . Make sure to read the latest e-Visa requirements carefully since they change regularly.

Not supported countries: If you are a citizen of one of the following countries, then you will not be able to apply for an e-Visa: Afghanistan, Algeria, Arab Saudi, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Nigeria. Please research if you can apply for a visa on arrival or contact the nearest Cambodian embassy.

Cambodian Embassies

A third way to obtain a visa is through one of the overseas Cambodian embassies. Check the following list of Cambodian embassies to see if there’s one available in your country.

Visa Documents

The following 3 documents have to be filled in when you apply for a visa on arrival. It doesn’t matter if you arrive by air or land. Make sure you indicate clearly for which visa you are applying. It’s impossible to change a tourist visa into a business visa afterwards.

  • Visa Application
  • Customs declaration
  • Arrival/departure card

Visa Extensions

If you want to stay longer than 30 days in Cambodia, you will have to extend your visa at the Immigration Department in Phnom Penh. Their offices are located on Nr 223, Confederation de Russie (Airport Road), opposite the Phnom Penh International Airport. Contact them by phone on +855 12 581 558.

However, when you stay in Siem Reap or another city, you don’t need to travel to Phnom Penh. You can just ask a local travel agency to take care of the extension. They will charge you a fee for the extension and you may have to provide them with a passport-size photograph (4×6). You will have your passport and visa extension back in about 10 working days.

A diplomatic, official and courtesy visas can be extended at the Consular Department, Ministry of Foreign Affaires and International Cooperation in Phnom Penh.

Good to know: If you overstay your visa, you will have to pay US$10 a day as a penalty on leaving the country.

Beware of visa scams at all overland border crossings, but especially at Poipet and Koh Kong. Never let somebody else arrange a visa for you. The visa application is very easy and only costs $US30 for a tourist visa. Do not listen to drivers and touts who will offer their help and make you believe that a visa costs US$40 or more.

Some immigration officials will ask a 100 Baht surcharge at the Poipet immigration office. 100 Baht is more or less US$3. Decide for yourself if you are willing to pay this extra ‘bribe’ or not. To avoid it, you could ask them in a polite way for a receipt or explanation. However, never lose your good mood or show any anger. This can only give you extra hassle.

Complete Guide to Visa for Cambodia with COVID Updates

  • Cambodia Online Visa
  • Cambodia Visa on Arrival at Land Borders

For most outsiders who have never been to Cambodia, probably the ancient Hindu temple complex of Angkor Wat is their first glimpse of this country. Along with many other Hindu and Buddhist temple, Cambodia is a favorite with tourists who love off-the-beaten-path travel.

A visa for Cambodia is needed for citizens from most of the countries in the world, be it for tourism or to do business or study or work.

While Cambodia is closed to general tourism now for the Covid-19 pandemic, it is possible to enter Cambodia as long as you fulfil all the requirements.

In this guide, along with the COVID-19 updates, we will cover how to apply Cambodia visa from an embassy and through other means, visa types, visa fees for Cambodia.

Table of Contents

Update : COVID Travel to Cambodia

Suspended visas.

The following visas have been suspended until further notice for all the nationalities.

  • Cambodia online visa or e-Visa for tourism
  • Tourist visa
  • Cambodia visa on arrival for any kind of visa
  • Visa exemptions

Flying to Cambodia: COVID Requirements

1. negative covid-19 test.

The COVID certificate should be dated and stamped within 72 hours before you fly, it’ll be fine. The rule applies to the certificate, not the test. It has to be the original copy with a stamp and signature. A digital copy even with stamp and signature will not be accepted.

Citizens of some countries also have to email the COVID-19 test result prior to the departure. Check with the embassy on this.

Example: US citizens

2. Health Insurance

Health insurance that covers COVID and has a minimum coverage of $50000 is a mandatory requirement for Cambodia visa now.

You can get a travel or nomad health insurance from Safety Wing now.

In some countries, you are needed to provide proof of insurance at the time of applying for the visa . For example, if you are applying for a Cambodia visa from Australia.

For some others while they might not ask for it at time of visa application, you would need to provide it at immigration.

In any case, it is better to get it beforehand.

3. Letter of Invitation/Employment

A stamped letter of invitation from a registered Cambodia business or school, to be submitted with the visa application, if you have been sponsored or invited.

Note that not everyone will be invited or sponsored. In this case, you can submit the letter of employment from your employer to show that you have a legitimate job.

4. Refundable Deposit of $2000

You need to deposit 2000 USDs after arriving in Cambodia. This will be used to cover the COVID-19 test result, local transportation fees, accommodation cost, as well as expenses during the quarantine period in case you test positive.

You can pay by cash or using a credit card. But it is strongly recommend you to bring cash, in case the POS machines don’t read your card or something else happens.

In some cases, a foreigner might have a Validation Certificate on Payment guarantee or VAPGI. This means your sponsoring company will pay this deposit for you.

5. Accommodation Proof

In truth, hotel reservations are not mandatory. But some airlines are insisting you have a reservation now. So I would suggest you book for a couple of nights. Note that you can only book  Sokha or Tian yi . Make sure to mention to them that you are not sponsored or invited.

However, if you don’t book a hotel, and get in, then you will be assigned a hotel for the first couple of nights.

6. Quarantine Requirement

After arriving in Cambodia, you are needed to quarantine in a designated hotel. Once you are at the airport, after the immigration, they will do the PCR test.

You will be taken to the hotel from the airport on a bus, where you will be needed to quarantine. After you get your results, if no one on your flight is positive, you can go and stay in a place of your choice for the remaining time.

If you are positive, then you would need to quarantine for all 14 days.

Land Borders Closed

All land borders of Cambodia with Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam are closed.

Cambodia Visa Types

Cambodia visa types are a mix of the visas that can be obtained from a Cambodian embassy and the ones that can be extended once you are in Cambodia. The type of visa in Cambodia that one can get is often the extension of a visa obtained on arrival or from an embassy.

It is important to understand the difference.

1. Tourist Visa for Cambodia (T Class)

A tourist visa for Cambodia is meant for people who want to visit Cambodia for tourism or sightseeing.

If you are planning to stay in Cambodia for 30 days or less, the tourist visa for Cambodia is best for you. A 30-day tourist visa costs $30 and can be obtained from a Cambodian embassy or as a Cambodia visa on arrival at an airport or land border.

It is valid for 3 months from the date of issue. You can get a Cambodia tourist visa extension only once for 30 more days once you are there.

Requirements

  • Round-trip flight tickets or proof of onward journey
  • Proof of financial stability

2. Cambodia Online Visa or e-Visa

A Cambodia online visa or electronic visa is a 30-day visa meant for tourism. It is one of the easiest visas available to almost every nationality. You can get it for $36, and the application process is completely online.

Citizens of Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Sudan and Syria can’t get an e visa for Cambodia.

3. Ordinary Visa for Cambodia (E Class)

A Cambodia ordinary visa is completely different from an e visa for Cambodia, and should never be confused. It is the most sought-after visa that allows you to stay in Cambodia for an extended period of time. It is also known as a Cambodia business visa .

You can get this visa for 30 days by paying $35, either at a consulate of Cambodia or on arrival. Then you can extend it for an indefinitely, depending on the purpose of your extension.

Requirements:

  • Accommodation proof in Cambodia
  • Health insurance
  • Onward flight ticket
  • A hard copy of COVID Test Certificate, obtained within 72 hours before the departure time.
  • Completed Cambodia Visa application form
  • Original passport
  • A copy of the bio page of the passport

4. Khmer Visa (K Class)

The K-class visa or Khmer visa is for those of Cambodian descent who hold a foreign passport. This visa is free for a lifetime and permanent for the period of your passport. However, you will need to re-apply when renewing your passport.

There have been reports of people needing to pay an unofficial “facilitation fee” to get it.

  • Birth certificate or marriage certificate or family book, or Cambodian ID card
  • A copy of their previous K visa page if renewing

5. Official/Diplomatic/Courtsey Visa

These visas are meant for foreigners who are

  • Diplomatic passport holders visiting Cambodia to engage in official duties on behalf of their government.
  • Officials passport holder going to Cambodia solely for Official duties on behalf of their government.
  • Normal passport holder who wishes to enter Cambodia on official duty.

Cambodia Visa Extension Types

Not all types of visas for Cambodia are available directly from a Cambodian embassy. If the purpose of your stay is to retire in Cambodia or work or study etc., then these will be available as an extension of an ordinary visa for Cambodia or E class visa.

So simply put, you get the ordinary visa on arrival or from an embassy, and then extend it to suit the purpose of your stay once you are in Cambodia. The requirements for the Extension of Stay (EOS) will vary depending on your purpose of stay.

None of the Cambodia EOS or extension would be available at an airport or land border or in a Cambodian embassy.

1. Cambodia Retirement Visa (ER visa extension)

A Cambodia retirement visa is nothing but an ER visa extension. It is meant for those of retirement age. Although there is no such visa called retirement visa officially, many people refer the ER visa extension as retirement visa for Cambodia.

  • Proof of guaranteed income from your home country such as social security or pension
  • 55 or above
  • Not employed in Cambodia at the time of applying

People younger than 55 have also been able to get this visa. The criteria for those under 55 is not clearly defined and varies depending on which agent you use to apply.

The Cambodia retirement visa extension can be issued for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months.

2. Cambodia Work Visa( EB/EG Visa Extension)

Most of the expats who want to work or freelance or volunteer in Cambodia opt for an EB visa extension. Dependants of EB visa extension holder can also extend their stay in Cambodia using the same. This extension can be granted for 1,3,6 or 12 months.

The Cambodia visa extension for EB category itself does not give a foreigner the right to work in Cambodia. In order to be legally employed in Cambodia, you will need a Cambodian work permit.

However, you can still freelance with this visa in Cambodia.

  • Address in Cambodia
  • Work Permit or proof of business or employment contract( needed only for an extension for more than 6 months). This must be stamped.

Only the 6- and 12-month visa extension allow multiple entries.

EG Visa Extension

An EG visa extension is for foreigners looking for employment In Cambodia. Similar to an EB visa, and it can be issued for 1, 3, or 6 months. Foreigners who already have had EB visa extensions in the past, may or may not be able to get an EG visa extension.

There is no Cambodia work “Visa” technically, but the EOS extension for EB/EG act as a substitute for this.

3. Cambodia Student Visa (ES Visa Extension)

Foreigners wanting to study Khmer language in Cambodia or anything else can get a Cambodia student visa, popularly known as ES visa extension. Foreigners whose children are enrolled in Cambodian schools can also apply this extension for their children.

So while there is no student “Visa” technically, there is however a student EOS category.

Please note that the school must be fully and legally registered with both the MoC and the GDoT. And you can enroll in the school after coming to Cambodia.

  • A letter from a registered Cambodian school, receipts for fees, and a copy of the school’s registration
  • Proof of financial stability if you are applying for yourself

Cambodia Visa Cost

While Cambodia visa fee will always be the same for some visa types, it can vary a little for the extensions depending on the agents you take help from.

Health Insurance for Cambodia Visa

All foreigners wishing to enter and stay in Cambodia are now needed to have travel health insurance with a minimum medical coverage of 50,000 USDs. You you can buy the insurance from any other provider as long as it covers Covid-19.

We strongly recommend that you buy your insurance with Safety Wing , which can cover multiple countries along with Cambodia and is easily renewable.

  • EB visa extension . The EB business EOS covers most Cambodia expats, including those who are working and their partners and children, freelancers, and volunteers. The current rules require applications to provide a stamped letter verifying their employment with a Cambodian company. This renewable visa extension can last for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months, although only the 6- and 12-month visa extension allow multiple entries.
  • Spouses and children of EB visa holders can submit the visa-holder’s employment letter, which should state that the company supports the application for the spouse’s EB EOS as a non-working dependent, and include the dependents’ passport information. They should also bring proof of their relationship to the visa holder to renew their own visa extensions.
  • Those who are self-employed and have registered a business can write a letter confirming their own employment.
