  • The Perfect Itinerary for Spending One Day in Singapore

Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay, Singapore

Are you looking for the perfect way to spend one day in Singapore? Don’t worry – I’ve got you covered!

Singapore is one of my favorite cities in the entire world and since it’s also one of the biggest hubs in Southeast Asia, chances are you’ll be going through Singapore Airport at least once during your travels in this region.

If that happens and you have some extra time on your hands, I would highly recommend setting aside at least one day to explore all that Singapore has to offer.

Although Singapore is a small city-state, it actually has so many things to see and do that it can be overwhelming to decide what to do on a long layover. That’s why I’ve put together this perfect one day Singapore itinerary that will help you make the most of your time. Let’s get into it!

Overview of Your One Day Singapore Itinerary

Breakdown of your one day singapore itinerary.

  • Morning: Gardens by the Bay, Cloud Forest, Flower Dome, OCBC Skywalk or Supertree Observatory
  • Afternoon: Chinatown, Clarke Quay, Merlion Park, Marina Bay Circuit, Helix Bridge
  • Evening: SkyPark Observatory or Ce La Via at Marina Bay Sands, Garden Rhapsody, Spectra

Map for your one day in Singapore

Below you can find a customized map that includes all the locations you’re going to visit on this Singapore itinerary.

I marked the different times of your one day in Singapore with different colors – I used blue for the morning, green for the afternoon, and red for the evening, so you can easily see which places you’re going to visit at which time.

How to use this map: This map is fully interactive, so you can move around, zoom in/zoom out, and click on the icons. If you want to see a larger map, click on the bracket in the upper right corner. To see more details and the different layers, click on the tab in the upper left corner. If you want to save it for later, click on the star icon next to the name of the map. Then simply open Google Maps either on your desktop or phone, go to ‘Saved’/’Maps’, and open the map whenever you need it.

Morning of Your One Day in Singapore

Having at least 3 or 4 days in Singapore would be the optimal amount of time for visiting. However, many people only have a short layover in Singapore and often have just 24 hours to discover the city.

Do you also have just one day to spend in Singapore? Don’t worry, if you maximize your time you will be able to cover all the must-see spots!

However, it means you will have a really long day with lots of walking so put on your most comfortable shoes, have a coffee in your hand, and let’s go exploring!

Gardens by the Bay

Start your day by heading to Garden by the Bay. This stunning 101-hectare (250-acre) park is home to some of the best attractions in Singapore, including the futuristic-looking supertrees.

These supertrees are actually not trees – they are made of concrete and steel. They work like vertical gardens, and they are home to more than 158,000 plants. Walking among them feels like you are in another world!

There are 18 supertrees around the Gardens by the Bay in total – 12 of them are located at the Supertree Grove, 3 in the Golden Gardens, and another 3 in the Silver Gardens.

Some of them are also embedded with environmentally sustainable functions like photovoltaic cells to harvest solar energy.

So they are not just fascinating to look at, they are actually an important part of the self-sustainable system that runs through the whole Gardens by the Bay.

trip singapore 1 hari

Although most attractions at Gardens by the Bay only open at 9 am, I highly recommend arriving to the park earlier and taking a stroll among the supertrees.

This is also the best way to avoid the crowds and the midday heat, plus it’s also the best time for taking photos without tons of other tourists around.

To get there, take the MRT to Bayfront Station and then it’s just a short walk from there. Alternatively, Grab has a drop-off location right at the Golden Gardens entrance.

Sadly Gardens by the Bay doesn’t have many options when it comes to breakfast. However, there is one Starbucks right by the Golden Gardens so you can grab a quick cup of coffee or a snack there before you start exploring.

Cloud Forest

Even if you have only one day in Singapore, visiting the  Cloud Forest  and the  Flower Dome  is a real must.

The tickets are a bit pricy as the admission for the two conservatories costs S$53 ($40 US) per person, but it’s really worth every penny!

As you enter the Cloud Forest, you’ll have a first glance at the 35-meter tall mountain covered in lush vegetation that is home to a stunning waterfall. No pictures do justice to how beautiful it is in real life!

This used to be the world’s largest indoor waterfall until it was surpassed by the HSBC Rain Vortex at Changi Airport – way to go, Singapore!

If you want to have a picture in front of the waterfall without the crowds, try to arrive around opening time (9 am) otherwise it will be impossible to have a decent photo.

trip singapore 1 hari

After you pass the waterfall, make sure to take the elevator up to the mountaintop to access the Cloud Walk. From up there, you’ll have a stunning view of the entire conservatory!

As you start the descent from the top, you’ll also come across several different exhibits such as The Cavern and Crystal Mountain where you can learn more about the rainforest and its inhabitants.

The Cloud Forest has an impressive biodiversity and more than 60,000 plants from all over the world so if you are a plant lover like me, you’ll be in absolute heaven!

Orchids at the Cloud Forest, Singapore

One thing to note though is that the temperature inside the Cloud Forest is between 23-25°C (73-77°F) with 80-90% humidity which is the perfect setting for tropical plants.

Compared to the heat outside, you will probably feel quite cold, so make sure to have a light jacket or sweater with you.

You will need at least 1-1.5 hours to explore the Cloud Forest but you can easily spend more than that if you want to take your time and appreciate the beauty of plant heaven.

We ended up spending around 2.5 hours inside but they also had a special Avatar Experience when we visited so this could have added to the time.

trip singapore 1 hari

Flower Dome

After you finish exploring the Cloud Forest, head over to the Flower Dome next. This is Singapore’s largest cooled conservatory and it’s the perfect escape from the heat outside.

The Flower Dome is home to hundreds of different plants from all over the world that are arranged in several themed gardens including the Sunflower Garden, Mediterranean Garden, and even an Australian Garden.

They also have always-changing floral displays in the middle of the dome which is definitely a must-see!

If you want to learn more about the plants, the Flower Dome also offers complimentary mini-guided tours of various locations inside. These only take place on certain days so make sure to check the schedule before you plan your visit.

As a reference, we spent around 1 hour inside but if you really want to take your time and learn more about the plants, then you should allocate at least 1.5 hours for the Flower Dome.

Supertree Observatory or OCBC Skywalk

If you’ve managed your time right, you can still have time to tick off one more attraction from your Singapore bucket list before heading out to lunch.

And what better way to end your morning than seeing Gardens by the Bay from above?

There are two ways to do this: either you take the elevator up to the Supertree Observatory (S$14/$10 US) which is located on top of the tallest Supertree, or you can take a walk along the OCBC Skyway (S$12/$9 US) which is a 128-meter-long aerial walkway among the Supertrees.

Both options are great – we personally opted for the Supertree Observatory as it’s higher up and offers a more panoramic view of the Gardens by the Bay.

Plus, since we visited around noon, it was better to quickly visit the open part of the observatory on the top and then take in the views from one level below from the air-conditioned area than to walk around the hot skyway!

Afternoon of Your One Day in Singapore

I know that you can’t spend enough time in the Gardens, but it’s time to continue your journey toward Chinatown! I suggest hopping on the blue MRT line for two stops (from Bayfront to Telok Ayer) to save some time.

Chinatown is really different from the rest of the city with its red and gold tones and low-rise buildings. The whole neighborhood is very vivid, with lots of street markets, museums, and temples.

There are actually not just ornate Chinese temples, you can find many Buddhist and Hindu temples as well. Some of the most interesting temples are Sri Mariamman Temple, Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, and Thian Hock Keng.

Chinatown is also a great place to grab some lunch and since the food is quite affordable, it’s the perfect place to eat if you’re  visiting Singapore on a budget .

trip singapore 1 hari

If you would rather sit at a pretty cafe as we did, I can’t recommend Merci Marcel on Club Street enough.

It’s the top-rated breakfast place on Tripadvisor so I knew I had to check it out and it definitely didn’t disappoint! The food was absolutely amazing and the atmosphere was perfect for a relaxed lunch.

trip singapore 1 hari

How much time you will spend in Chinatown really depends on what you want to do there, but I would suggest at least 2 hours. That should be enough to explore the temples and markets and grab a bite to eat.

Clarke Quay

Clarke Quay is another great neighborhood in Singapore. It is famous for its little colorful houses, stunning riverside restaurants, and endless collection of bars and clubs.

Take some time just to wander around and explore the area – there are some really interesting stores, cafes, and street art. It’s also a good place to have some lunch, or if you already had that in Chinatown, then you can relax a bit with a cup of coffee.

If you want to hit the night later, then Clarke Quay is totally your spot!

As you wander around Clarke Quay, make sure to stop by the Old Hill Street Police Station. I bet it’s going to be the most colorful police station you’ll ever see! Actually, this is not a police station anymore, but the name has not changed.

Now it’s the home to the Ministry of Communication and Information and the Ministry of Culture, Community, and Youth. Make sure to take some Instagram-worthy pictures in front of the building!

trip singapore 1 hari

Merlion Park

The Merlion is the national icon of Singapore, and you simply cannot miss the chance to take a picture with it.

The 8-meter tall Merlion statue is comprised of two parts: the fish body symbolizes the beginning of Singapore as a fishing village, while the lion head represents the city’s original name, Singapura (lion city).

The park itself is quite small, and you can explore it in about 10 minutes. However, the views of Marina Bay are absolutely stunning, and you can take some great pictures here.

trip singapore 1 hari

Marina Bay Circuit

Now it’s time to head back to Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay for the rest of your one day in Singapore itinerary but there are still a few places to explore along the way.

You will pass by the Marina Bay Street Circuit on your way. Seems familiar? If you are a Formula 1 fan, it should be – it’s the venue for the Singapore Grand Prix!

Even if you’re not a fan, it’s still worth stopping for a few minutes and taking some amazing pictures.

trip singapore 1 hari

Helix Bridge

In order to reach the Gardens by the Bay from the Marina Bay Circuit, you have to cross the Helix Bridge. This is a pedestrian bridge that links together Marina Centre with Marina South, and it was inspired by the form of a curved DNA structure. It looks really cool!

The bridge has four viewing platforms from where you can have an amazing view over the Marina Bay skyline.

trip singapore 1 hari

Evening of Your One Day in Singapore

Skypark observation deck or ce la vi at marina bay sands.

The Helix bridge takes you right to the foot of the  Marina Bay Sands Hotel  (the one that looks like a giant ship).

This hotel is the most popular one in Singapore as it features the world’s biggest rooftop infinity pool with breathtaking views over the Singapore skyline.

Unfortunately, the pool has been closed to the public, so you can only try it if you are a guest of the hotel.

However, there are two other options if you want to see the view from the top of the hotel and I would recommend choosing one of them for the evening of your one day in Singapore.

The first option is to visit the SkyPark Observation Deck on the 57th level of the hotel. The observatory offers some amazing views over Singapore and the ticket costs S$32 ($24 US) per person.

trip singapore 1 hari

Another option is to book a table at Ce La Vi, or just simply visit the bar for some drinks. The bar used to have a free entrance but now every visitor has to pay S$30 ($22 US) as an entrance fee but it’s fully redeemable for food and drinks.

If you opt for the drink option as we did, you can choose between two different venues. The SkyBar on the right overlooks the observatory and basically has the same views, whereas the Club Lounge has a direct view of the iconic infinity pool!

Once you are seated, you can come and go between the two so you will be able to check out the view from both places.

No matter which option you choose (the observatory, the SkyBar, or Club Lounge), I suggest staying until sunset as the views are simply breathtaking. It’s the perfect place to enjoy the golden hour and take some incredible photos.

trip singapore 1 hari

Garden Rhapsody

After sunset, it’s time to head back to the Gardens by the Bay to see the evening light shows. I know you’ve already been there during the day, but believe me, seeing it during the night will be a completely different experience!

The Supertrees look really awesome in the daylight as well, but the real magic comes when the night falls. The trees perform a magnificent sound and light show every night and it’s a must-see, even if you have only a day in Singapore.

Seeing this light show was hands down one of the most magical experiences in my life and the absolute highlight of visiting Singapore.

I can’t even describe my feelings properly, but I was so touched that I almost ended up crying. It’s really that amazing!

The trees are performing twice every day, at 7.45 pm and 8.45 pm. The show runs for 15 minutes, and it is completely free.

You can choose to watch it from the ground, purchase a ticket for the OCBC Skywalk, or head to the upper gardens which are usually a bit quieter.

trip singapore 1 hari

If you still have some energy left and don’t mind waiting a little bit, head over to the other side of Marina Bay Sands where you will find another great show: Spectra. It’s a light and water show performed by many dancing fountains and colorful visual projections.

The show is also free, and it starts at 8 pm and 9 pm on a daily basis. I thought after the Supertree light show I would not be amazed by this show – how wrong I was! It is also absolutely spectacular, so don’t miss it!

Useful Info for Spending One Day in Singapore

Where to stay in singapore.

Since you will have only one day in Singapore, I suggest booking a hotel close to the city center to save time on transportation.

Unfortunately, Singapore is a really expensive city so unless you want to stay in a hostel or a capsule hotel, it’s going to cost you a lot of money. Especially in, or close to the city center.

If you want to read more about the different neighborhoods in the city and what each one has to offer, make sure to read my in-depth guide about  where to stay in Singapore . If you have a bigger budget, you can also check out the most amazing hotels with best views in Singapore .

If you’re in a hurry, below you can check out my top recommendations for staying in Singapore for every budget.

  • Luxury: Marina Bay Sands
  • Mid-range: Hotel Traveltine
  • Budget: The Quay Hotel

How to get to Singapore

As I mentioned before, Singapore is one of the biggest hubs in Southeast Asia so you will find countless flights from most major cities in Southeast Asia, as well as from bigger cities in Europe, the Middle East, and North America.

Singapore’s Changi Airport is also very well connected to the city and it’s easy to get around once you’re there.

The MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) train is the fastest and most convenient way to get from the airport to downtown Singapore but you can also opt for a taxi or use a ridesharing app such as Grab or Gojek.

Insider tip: Don’t forget to check out the stunning indoor waterfall (HSBC Rain Vortex) while you’re at the airport! It’s located right across Terminal 1 in a shopping mall called Jewel Changi Airport.

To get to the waterfall, you’ll need to go through immigration first and exit the terminal. The waterfall is right in the middle of the shopping mall so it’s very easy to find after you enter the mall.

Best time to visit Singapore

As Singapore is located near the equator, the weather is pretty much the same all year around so you don’t really have to worry about the timing of your trip.

You can expect hot and humid conditions any time you visit but the wettest months tend to be November, December, and January.

Note that public holidays in Singapore such as Chinese New Year and the Formula One Grand Prix can also cause the prices to rise, so it’s best to avoid these periods if you’re looking for a budget-friendly trip

Not that you can even say budget-friendly and Singapore in the same sentence but still, you get the idea!

How to get around Singapore

Most of the sights you’re going to visit on this one day Singapore itinerary are quite close to each other so you can easily walk between them.

I also tried to put together an itinerary for you that covers the main attractions in Singapore in a logical order so that you don’t spend too much time traveling from one place to another.

If you want to get around faster, I recommend taking the MRT train or using a ridesharing app such as Grab or Gojek. Just make sure to take into account the traffic in Singapore – it can be pretty bad during rush hour.

If you’re planning to use the MRT more frequently, it might be worth purchasing a Singapore Tourist Pass which gives you unlimited rides on all public transport in Singapore for the selected days.

For reference, a one day tourist pass costs S$22 ($16 US). It’s a great way to save money and it also makes getting around much easier!

The Perfect Itinerary for Spending 1 Day in Singapore

30 thoughts on “The Perfect Itinerary for Spending One Day in Singapore”

I love how easy it is to explore Singapore in a day since a lot of the major attractions are close to one another. We missed Arab quarters but hopefully, I can visit there on my next trip to Singapore.

Luckily Singapore is a totally walkable city, I loved it so much too! I’m planning to go back soon for a longer period and can’t wait to see more places in the city!

I love Singapore also. I was there for four days in November. We went to just about everywhere you mentioned, except the Merlion.

Oh four days, that sounds amazing! I’m also planning to go back soon for a longer period, can’t wait!

This looks like the perfect itinerary for sure! Didn’t get to do all of these things when I was in Singapore but will bookmark this for the next time I’m going!!

Yeah I think we really did the best we could for only one day! My feet was hurting so much after all the walking haha 🙂

I visited Singapore for the first time last year and definitely think this itinerary is perfect for getting a taste of the city in just 24 hours!

Aww thank you so much Olivia, I’m so happy to hear that!

I love Singapore! This is the perfect 24-hour itinerary. There’s so much to see and do but you can easily do so much if you plan ahead of time.

Totally agree with you! Can’t wait to go back soon for a longer time 🙂

Perfect itinerary! I think you really made the most of your day in Singapore ! It makes me miss the city a lot !

Thank you so much Emma! Yeah we tried to do as much things as possible within one day 🙂 Loved it so much!

I can’t wait to book a trip with Singapore Airlines just to get the chance to have a layover in Singapore! Looks like the time of a layover is just what you need in order to see this wonderful city. And I love having long layovers to break a long flight time. I’ll be coming back for all the tips when I’m headed there!

Yes a long layover sounds fantastic! Although I can’t wait to go back to Singapore for a few more days to see what more it has to offer 🙂

Looks like the perfect day in Singapore. Can’t wait to go back again soon! Thanks for the great tips.

You’re so welcome! I’m so bummed that I had to cancel my Singapore trip at the end of April. Hopefully next year I can go back too!

It’s amazing that you can see all of this in only 24h! Singapore looks so fantastic! Thanks for sharing your itinerary!!

It was a really long day and my feet hurt like crazy on the next day but it was so worth it 🙂

Great post, I know this is a place good for stop overs so seeing so much in a day would be great!

Yeah you can do so much things in just a one day layover in Singapore! Such a wonderful city.

I have never been to Singapore but it seems like such a lovely destination! Thanks for such a detailed travel guide 🙂

You’re welcome! It is really such a wonderful city, can only recommend visiting! 🙂

I love Singapore! It was my first international destination and I cant wait to be back some day. Beautiful photos as always, Kriszti x

Oh how special! I wanted to visit it again in the end of April but of course I had to cancel 🙁 Maybe next year!

I’m from Singapore and came across your blog while researching for itineraries for Italy and i just want to say i love your content and as a Singaporean, I totally love this itinerary for Singapore!

Thank you so much Mag, I’m so happy to hear it!

Very useful information! I was a little underwhelmed with the Gardens by the Bay night show, but I guess it depends on where you’re watching and musical preferences. I’d say it’s worth watching, but better not to create high expectations. The National Museum was nice to know the history of Singapore, all in English. Thank you very much for this post, it was very helpful in planning a day trip.

Yeah I totally agree, it depends on your musical preferences and the current show you’re watching. First time when I saw it in 2018 it was the ‘Evening of Musical Theatre’ with my favorite musical songs and I was literally tearing up, it was so beautiful! Now on my second visit they were playing ‘Opera in the Gardens’ and since I don’t like opera that much, it was really underwhelming for me too.

Wow wonderful and amazing Singapore. I can’t wait ! I will be there soon for some couple of days and my worries are only about the transportations and tickets. I don’t like trains and prefer taxis, are taxis easy to catch everywhere ? Are tickets easy to get when you reach the place you want visit? Thank you for this article beautifully written 🤍

Yes there are lots of taxis everywhere, and you can also use apps such as Uber or Grab. It works really good! The tickets are also really easy to get, you can either buy them in advance on the attractions’ websites or just purchase in person after arrival. Have a great time in Singapore!

One Day in Singapore Itinerary – Top things to do in Singapore

Singapore is a destination unique for its small geographical size. Located in south-east Asia, this city-state is a mass of many different ethnic influences – Chinese, Malay, Indonesian and Indian. Once a part of the British Empire (and now the British Commonwealth), the small island nation is found at the very tip of the Malay Peninsula. Singapore is also often used as a ‘transit’ stop for travelers who often break their arduous journey from Europe to Australia and New Zealand (or vice versa) here. And since this is such a compact nation, it is one of the easiest destinations to visit “fully” on a short trip. During just one day in Singapore, you can quite literally see the whole world on the streets – and this itinerary will show you how!

What’s the best time to visit Singapore?

TIP: Need a transport from/to an airport? Pre-book your transfer with Welcomepickups . They offer the cheapest prices and most comfortable ride along with the possibility to pre-order essential travel products.

Singapore does not have seasons as such. Rather, you will find Singapore weather hot and humid no matter the time of year. Nevertheless, some months can be marginally cooler than others, but in general, they are all pretty humid – around 30 degrees C in daytime. The best time to visit Singapore, though, at least temperature-wise, could be during what is called the ‘Northeast monsoon’ that runs from November to early March when the things cool off a little in comparison to the rest of the year.

Singapore Skyline

Festivals and events in Singapore, however, are a different story. Thanks to the numerous ethnicities that live here, there’s always a reason to celebrate. Whether that’s Pongal in mid-January, Vesak Day in early June, or the National Day of Singapore on August 9, you will find something interesting all year round. There are even month-long celebrations, such as Thaipusam !

A few facts about Singapore

Singapore is a city-state and one of the world’s most prosperous countries. It is a modern city of the 21st century that embraces economic progress against the old traditions. Although most of the old Singapore has been reconstructed, many significant landmarks within the Colonial District have been preserved and should really be on everyone’s “What to do in Singapore for one day?” list.

Colonial Architecture

The city is also a place where you can thoroughly enjoy your food and shopping with lively hawker centres and 24-hour coffee shops offering cheap food from all over Asia. Additionally, Singapore offers shopping meccas like Orchard Road and Suntec City. There is continuous development around Sentosa and Marina Bay as part of the city’s new direction towards fun and entertainment.

Marina Bay Sands

One day in Singapore itinerary

Welcome to an absolutely amazing city! Singapore will leave you speechless with its modern architecture and the variety of sights and places to enjoy. However, below all that is a strong sense of identity that makes for a wonderful combination every true travel lover will know to appreciate and admire. The following are the top sights and things to do during your one day in Singapore.

Visit the Merlion statue on Sentosa Island

If you want to thoroughly visit Singapore in one day, start things off by catching a cable car to Sentosa Island . Sentosa is home plenty of amazing things (more on that in a bit), but what we’re looking for here is the famous ‘Merlion’ statue – the symbol of Singapore. If at all possible, aim to get to the Merlion early to avoid the crowds or, if you’re really organized, purchase tickets before you arrive. Take a ride to the Mouth of the Merlion for stunning views across the Strait of Singapore.

Merlion Statue on Sentosa Island

Explore the world of movies at Universal Studios

Once you’re done with the Merlion, the next stop in your Singapore itinerary should be Universal Studios Singapore . This colossal theme park has seven different zones and about thirty rides and is an amazing place to visit, no matter if you’re an adult or a kid. And more things are coming!

From Transformers to Battlestar Galactica, from Minions to Sesame Street, you will find all sorts of shows and movies represented here. See how special effects are made and pick up a souvenir or two – you’ll need something to remind you of the awesome time you had here!

Universal Studios Singapore

Go shopping and grab lunch at Suntec City

Suntec City is the next thing on this itinerary, and it’s located near the Central Business District. This vast complex contains a shopping mall, an exhibition centre and office tower blocks. You’ll know when you’re at the right place as the venue boasts the ‘ Worlds Largest Fountain of Wealth ‘. There are plenty of shopping options here, and no matter if you’re after clothes, souvenirs, books or electrical goods, you’ll find everything you need within this mall. If you want to shop till you drop, this is most certainly the place.

The complex is divided into four zones to help shoppers navigate with ease, and the zones are based on the Feng Shui design. The Fountain Terrace is where the majority of restaurants are found, while the Entertainment Centre is located in the fourth zone, which is devoted to a whole host of pleasure and leisure pursuits.

Menya Kokoro makes a killer ramen, and Chura Sushi Bar is ideal for anyone who loves Japanese food. Kebabchi Charcoal BBQ , however, is a very interesting Pakistani take on BBQ, so meat lovers will definitely want to sit down here for a bite.

Explore colonial grandeur

The Colonial District forms the very heart of Singapore with elegant Georgian and Victorian buildings lining the banks of the Singapore River. This district is one of the best areas in Singapore if you want to do a bit of exploring on your own and therefore should be on every imaginable itinerary. The area is positively brimming with impressive buildings and famous landmarks such as the Old Parliament House, the Old Supreme Court and the City Hall.

Colonial District Singapore

Cocktails and afternoon tea

The crown jewel of the Colonial District is the famous Raffles Hotel , developed from a beachfront bungalow built in the 1880s into a model of heritage luxury, with the whole building being exceptionally elegant. Explore a warren of courtyards and verandas on your way to the ‘Long Bar’ to the birthplace of the Singapore Sling Cocktail.

Raffles Hotel

Located on the other side of the Colonial District (if lunch at Suntec City wasn’t enough), allow room for some afternoon tea at ‘The Courtyard’ at The Fullerton Hotel. Found in the atrium lobby of the hotel, this is where guests can enjoy a leisurely late afternoon while sitting on plush sofas eating a delectable selection of scones, finger sandwiches, cheeses, bread, sliced meats etc. with tasty desserts to suit: Chocolate Eclair, Salted Caramel Chocolate Tart, Flavoured Macaroon, English Fruit Cake etc.

The Fullerton Hotel

Marina bay area

Don’t worry, your one day in Singapore is not over yet! The Marina Bay area, home to several iconic landmarks, is something you have to see, too. Here you will discover something quite amazing – Marina Bay Sands Hotel, the one that looks like a ship placed on top of three towers. It is the ultimate luxury hotel boasting elegant rooms, an infinity pool and a bar/restaurant at the top, but more on that in the next section of this itinerary.

Marina Bay Sands at Night

After wandering the hotels’ lobby, navigate the pathways to the ‘Gardens by the Bay’ . You can’t miss the massive Supertrees here, tree-shaped gardens between nine and sixteen stories tall. Walk on the suspended walkway between two of them to capture a bird’s-eye view of the incredible scenery below.

Gardens by the Bay

In the evening, catch the Sky Show : a ballet of lights and sounds at the Garden Rhapsody amidst the Supertrees. This can be an incredibly romantic end to your 24 hours in Singapore.

Gardens by the bay Sky Show

Take a ride on Singapore Flyer

What else to do in Singapore for a day that’s even more romantic, I hear you ask. Well, you will surely notice the giant Ferris Wheel when visiting this area. With its height of 165 meters it provides an incredible view, and you can actually see three countries from up there: Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. But the capsules on the wheel also have a few surprises for you – not only can you order some champagne for the ride, but you can book a fancy dinner, too. How awesome is that!?

Finally, sit down and enjoy Boat Quay and Clarke Quay

But if you’re still up for exploring, enrich your one day in Singapore up by checking out Boat Quay and Clarke Quay . This section along the Singapore River is busy with restaurants, coffee shops and eateries that start springing to life towards the late evening and night.

Boat Quay is easier on the wallet than Clarke Quay, however. It’s a place for soaking up the atmosphere by the river and also for photographs. Time permitting, take a boat trip that lasts approximately 45 minutes: this is best done at night when all the lights of the Quays, Downtown, the Colonial District and Marina Bay boastfully display their night grandeur.

Where to stay in Singapore?

Marina Bay Sands

Marina Bay Sands

10 Bayfront Avenue, Marina Bay

The most iconic landmark of Singapore,  Marina Bay Sands is more than a five-star hotel. Spending some of your 24 hours in Singapore in the world’s largest rooftop infinity pool or Sands SkyPark observation deck where you can enjoy the most spectacular city skyline view certainly seems like a great idea. Guest can also enjoy an ultimate culinary experience at one of 20 dining options, premier shopping at one of largest luxury shopping malls in Singapore, ArtScience Museum or a world-class casino.

Day trips from Singapore

Because of the city’s bustling nature that spills over into its surroundings, there are plenty of great options for day trips from Singapore. Nature, architecture and numerous other interesting sights are really close by, so you really have plenty of options. If you’re not in a hurry to see Singapore in one day, setting something up will pay off handsomely.

Sentosa Island

Sentosa Island is located just in front of the city and it is absolutely packed with things to see. Merlion , Singapore’s official mascot is a must, but there are many interesting shows you can see too, Madame Tussaud’s museum you can visit and even Universal Studios also has a branch there. No doubt, time simply flies by when you’re here.

Due to the fact that Singapore is a city-state, it’s quite easy to visit other countries from here. For example, you can hop over to a few islands that belong to Indonesia. Bintan and Batam are great examples of that, since you only need to get on a ferry to reach them. Beautiful sandy beaches on the former and great food and loads of entertainment on the latter make them an excellent choice for Singapore day trips.

Malaysia is also a great place to visit from Singapore. You can take a bus or a train to Johor Bahru , for example, and it will only take you an hour to get there. Malacca is another great place to visit because this Malaysian city boasts the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site . Explore the various influences other countries have had on Malaysia, taste some excellent and unique food or simply enjoy a shopping spree, the choice is yours.

A tour around Singapore

Now, since the city is located on an island, it is not that hard to get around. To make the most of that, why not spend a day exploring as much of Singapore as you can? If you get on this tour, you will be able to dive deeper into the history and way of life of this place, as well as see some impressive architecture and cultural destinations . Learn about the city’s history, visit its temples and experience its allure at its fullest.

Pulau Hantu

For those who want to dive into the waters surrounding Singapore, Pulau Hantu is a paradise. Numerous colorful fish can be found in the island’s shallow waters, so you will see people snorkeling here all the time. Families with children also love to come here because the lagoons are very safe and perfect for letting your child enjoy themselves fully. If you want your day trip from Singapore to include some beach activities, this is where you want to go.

Extra tips for visiting Singapore

– Singapore is easy-going for dress standards in most cases. Nonetheless, if you’re going somewhere decent such as the Raffles Hotel or Afternoon Tea at the Fullerton Hotel, dress appropriately. Women should show some sort of modesty in public. Also, remember to take a thin sweater or cardigan while going to the restaurants and the malls as most of them are kept air-conditioned and can be quite cold.

– Pay attention to their rules. Singapore has some ‘odd’ rules but abide by them and you’ll be fine. No chewing gum, no jaywalking, no smoking in public, and no littering.

– If you want to see Singapore in one day, you will want to use the MRT underground as much as possible. It is clean, frequent, cheap and punctual.

What's In This Guide?

How to maximise one day in singapore.

There is no more magical and enchanting travel destination than Singapore. This city-state is full of things to do and with only one day in Singapore, you will have a packed itinerary. One day is just enough time to capture a snapshot of what Singapore has to offer and will surely leave you wanting more.

Singapore’s Changi Airport is one of the most impressive airports in the world. It has various attractions inside and is one of the most popular stops over destinations for travel all around the world. For this reason, people often have only a short amount of time to spend exploring Singapore and all its beauty.

Without a proper itinerary, you can easily feel overwhelmed with all the possible things to do, where to go, and how to get there. Singapore offers more than what meets the eye and one can easily spend quite a few days here to really see everything. This quick Singapore itinerary will provide you with the ultimate guide to ensure your short Singapore experience is perfect.

This itinerary is timed out so that you know how long you should be spending at each place to make sure you get to see everything. Use this to experience Singapore in the best way possible.

7:30 – 8:30 – Breakfast in Singapore

Start your day off right with a nice breakfast. This can either be had at your accommodation or at a restaurant. In order to get started on the day’s itinerary as quickly as possible, I suggest eating at your accommodation. But if you are a foodie and want to experience all of the amazing food options of Singapore there are plenty of restaurants to satisfy you!

One of the more interesting breakfast dishes in Singapore is Souffle Pancakes which are premium light and fluffy pancakes that can be found around the city. If you do choose to eat out, you might need to budget more time for breakfast as most restaurants only open at 8AM or later.

8:30 – 10:30 – Gardens by the Bay

The Gardens by the Bay is Singapore’s most iconic landmark and something you cannot miss. Exploring the gardens is one of Singapore’s most romantic things to do for couples . This 101-hectare park is full of exciting things to do and see, however, with only 1 day in Singapore you cannot do it all. The Gardens by the Bay is home to some of Singapore’s most unique attractions like the Flower Dome, Cloud Forest, Floral Fantasy, Art Sculptures, and the Supertree Grove.

  • The Flower Dome is the largest glass greenhouse in the world and is full of stunning floral displays.
  • The Cloud Forest is a misty attraction full of greenery, mystery, and stunning mountain views.
  • Floral Fantasy is a floral garden that is designed in an artistic and innovative way to make visitors feel like they have been transported into some fantasy land.
  • The Supertree Grove is one of Singapore’s most famous attractions with various 25 – 50-meter tall Supertrees.

Supertree Grove is free to enter and explore, however, the other attractions charge an admission fee. With the limited time available you will have to make a choice on what you want to explore most. Allow around two hours to explore Supertree Grove, stroll the gardens, and enter one other attraction is enough if you are a fast traveller.

Also, note that this itinerary will bring you back to Supertree Grove in the evening for an amazing light show.

Masjid Sultan Mosque, Singapore

10:30 – 12:00 – Kampong Glam

After exploring Gardens by the Bay, it is time to see a more cultural and unique side to Singapore called Kampong Glam. This area is reachable by taking the MRT from Bayfront to Nicoll Highway MRT Station and it only takes 20 minutes. Kampong Glam is a hip area of Singapore that is becoming increasingly popular. It is packed with tasty restaurants, trendy shops, and amazing architecture.

While in Kampong Glam, you must visit the two main streets Haji Lane and Arab Street. On Haji Lane you will find vibrant and unique street murals, artistic shops, and hip restaurants. While Arab Street is where you will find Sultan Mosque and various middle eastern restaurants. Take a photo of the stunning Mosque and get a taste for the middle eastern roots of Singapore.

If you are feeling hungry, this is a great place to stop in for a quick bite to eat while admiring the surroundings.

Colourful Buildings in Singapore's Little India

12:00 – 1:00 – Little India

After seeing one side of Singapore’s multifaceted cultural roots it is time to see another in Little India. Little India is just a 15-minute walk from Sultan’s Mosque and offers an insight into a completely different world and culture. The whole area is full of vibrant and colourful buildings and a visit here feels like you’ve truly transported to India.

While in Little India be sure to look for Tan Teng Niah House and the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple. The Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple is a Hindu temple unlike anything else in Singapore and viewing it from both the outside and the inside is a must.

Depending on the type of food you prefer you can either stop for a nice lunch in Little India or wait until the next stop on this itinerary, Chinatown. Both are great options, but Little India is the best option for vegetarians or people who love Indian cuisine. This area is full of Indian restaurants to indulge in and the aromas from the various restaurants will surely pull you in.

Little India is additionally a great place for shopping and has a shopping experience unlike anywhere else on earth. In the chaotic shopping center called Mustafa you can find anything and everything you could ever need! Plus, Little India is open 24 hours making it super easy to visit even with only one day in Singapore.

Also Worth Exploring: Little India in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Chinatown, Singapore

1:00 – 3:00 – Chinatown

A 30-minute MRT ride from Little India Station to Chinatown Station will bring you to the beautiful Chinatown area of Singapore. Chinatown offers some insight into Singapore’s other prominent roots in Chinese culture.

The streets of Chinatown offer an escape from the towering skyscrapers. You will find a variety of colourful and elegant buildings, restaurants, shops, and cafes. If time permits, it is nice to sit in Chinatown in one of the restaurants and enjoy a drink while admiring the surroundings.

Also Worth Exploring: Chinatown in Bangkok

singapore sling at raffles hotel

  3:00 – 4:30 – Singapore Sling at Raffles Hotel

The Singapore Sling is Singapore’s most famous drink and having one while in Singapore only makes sense. A Singapore Sling is a sweet gin-based cocktail that tastes and looks amazing. It was invented in 1915 at the Raffles Hotel which is why heading to the famous Raffles Hotel and getting one there is ideal.

A Singapore Sling at Long Bar in Raffles Hotel will set you back about SGD30, not exactly a cheap drink, but an experience we reckon is worth having!

4:30 – 5:30 – Relax and Prepare for Evening

After a long day of exploring, we recommend allowing an hour to relax at your accommodation. Get changed, freshen up, and recharge for the night because there is still plenty more to fit in this one day in Singapore.

c'est la vie, marina bay sands

5:30 – 7:00 – Marina Bay Sands

The top of the famous Marina Bay Sands Hotel offers some of the most breath-taking panoramic views of Singapore. Visitors can get to the top with either an observation deck ticket or by booking a reservation at one of the rooftop bars and restaurants.

A reservation at Ce La Vi rooftop bar is the best way to admire the stunning views of Singapore and enjoy some great drinks and snacks at the same time. The atmosphere atop the Marina Bay Sands is magical and to see the city skyline lit up at night is nothing short of amazing.

7:00 – 8:00 – Gardens by the Bay Light Show

Every night at 7:45 and 8:45 the Supertree Grove at the Gardens by the Bay put on a free light show called Garden Rhapsody. The light show is complete with music and the trees changing colours. This is something you can’t miss since you are right beside them! Head here after your drinks at Ce La Vi and watch the light show in all its magical glory. This also gives you a chance to see the Gardens by The Bay at night when everything is lit up and romantic.

8:00 – 11:00 – Dinner & Evening in Clarke Quay

Clarke Quay is the best place to head to for a fun night in Singapore. This spot is always buzzing with excitement and is full of restaurants and bars. The restaurants serve a ton of different types of cuisines and are all unique and cool. Plus, there are lots of bars that serve a variety of drinks. Clarke Quay is in a magical location and the views it offers at night are amazing. This is the ultimate place to end your 1 day in Singapore adventures with a bang. The various bars, restaurants, and music venues make it a fitting place for all types of visitors, plus it is clean and safe!

Public Transportation In Singapore

Singapore in 1 Day - Itinerary

The easiest way to travel around Singapore is using a public transport system that is affordable, fast, and amicable for tourists of all types. Different types of transport modes are available to hop around the city

  • Singapore's MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) : It is the fastest way of traveling to any popular destination. Generally, such places are located at a walkable distance from the MRT station. One can opt for a tourist pass, foreign-issued Mastercard and VISA facilities, and an Adult Stored Value Smartcard while traveling by train.
  • Buses : They are a great option to travel the city at your own pace. Buses cover an extensive network of places in Singapore; they are air-conditioned and may be single or double-decker buses.
  • Taxis : Taxis are another affordable option as meters are reasonably priced, and there are no safety concerns. There might be surcharges sometimes, and you can always ask the driver for a receipt. The pricing and fares highly depend on the company from which you are taking the services.

  • Buses are not a great option for first-time visitors in Singapore as the extensive network of buses, and their timings may confuse you. Instead, you can hop on a taxi or metro to avoid the hassle.
  • Any place of architectural significance gets crowded during the afternoon, so it is preferred to visit them either early in the morning or evening. So, you can plan your places accordingly if you want to avoid a rush.
  • Try saving your bucks by shopping local and eating local in the famed streets of Chinatown, which won’t hit your pocket as hard as sitting in a fancy restaurant.
  • Do not miss out on Little India, where you will find the most famed things from India- the spicy food, sarees, Bollywood posters, and DVDs, to name a few!
  • As Singapore has a tropical climate, a few essential things that you must always carry are- sunscreens, umbrellas, and rain cover for your bags.
  • The public water in Singapore is safe to use, and one can definitely save money and reduce plastics by not buying plastic water bottles.
  • You must adhere to some of the local regulations like spitting on the roads, smoking in the designated areas, and flushing the toilet after use. Otherwise, you might certainly land up with a penalty.

My closest mundane mates would describe me as a coffee junkie with momentary bouts of creative highs and mediocre lows. I firmly believe that life isn't picture-perfect but dogs are:) I've always had this insatiable desire for a visual representation of the life around me, it was an intrinsic part, an inbuilt function without which survival would be unimaginable. Have a lovely day ahead folks!

1 Day Singapore Must See Itinerary

A 1 Day Singapore Must See itinerary lets you see impressive international gardens, a world class shopping district and some of Southeast Asia’s best hawker food areas.

Singapore

Our one day Singapore itinerary covers all of the highlights of modern Singapore, along with a variety of dining and nightlife recommendations to help you get the most from your trip.

We’ve also included accommodation recommendations for all price ranges, most of which are located in and around Orchard Road, Marina Bay and Chinatown. These areas are all close to the MRT, making them ideal if you want to get around Singapore quickly and cheaply.

Morning: Merlion Park and Gardens by the Bay

Garden by the Bay

  • Getting into Singapore from Changi Airport is easy. Trains leave from the airport to Tanah Merah station on a frequent schedule, starting at 5:31am on weekdays and Saturdays and 5:59am on Sundays and public holidays.
  • From Tanah Merah, it’s easy to use the MRT system to get to almost anywhere in Singapore’s central districts.
  • Taxis are also available from Changi Airport to anywhere in Singapore. It takes about half an hour to get to the city from the airport and costs anywhere from $20 to $40 or more, plus an extra few dollars for surcharges depending on the time of day.
  • Once you’re in Singapore, getting around the city is a breeze. Our one day itinerary uses the MRT to get around, since it covers all of Singapore and saves both and money compared to using taxis.

Merlion Park

  • Our one day itinerary starts with a quick visit to Merlion Park , where you can see the two famous Merlion statues — the ‘cub’ and its ‘parent’ statue — that are icons of Singapore. The statue park offers a great view of Singapore’s CBD and Marina Bay, where we’ll be heading next.
  • Merlion Park is located on the harbour side of One Fullerton, a short walk from the Raffles Place MRT station.

Gardens by the Bay

  • Built on 250 acres of reclaimed land, Gardens by the Bay is a large waterfront garden complex that’s home to exotic plants from every continent except Antarctica.
  • The complex features two cooled conservatories, one of which is the world’s largest columnless glasshouse. There are also several ‘Supertree’ vertical gardens reaching up to 160 feet in height that contain a diverse range of vines, orchids and other plant life.
  • As well as the amazing plants on display, the gardens offer some of the best unobstructed views of Singapore of anywhere in the city.
  • As of 2017, admission to Gardens by the Bay is $28 SGD for adults and $15 for children, which includes access to both of the conservatories. The OCBC Skyway is an extra $8 for adults and $5 for children. There are also free outdoor gardens that can be accessed without a ticket.
  • The easiest way to get to Gardens by the Bay is by MRT. The gardens are closest to Bayfront MRT station, although it’s also possible to get off at Marina Bay MRT station (easiest if you’re coming from Merlion Park) and walk through the shopping mall to the park entrance.

Lunch: Bugis Food Village or Orchard Road Food Courts

Hong Lim Hawker, Singapore

Bugis Food Village

  • Bugis Food Village is a classic hawker centre, with a diverse selection of Malay, Chinese, Thai and Indian food stands to choose from. If you want to eat lunch like local Singaporeans do, this is the place you’ll want to go.
  • The food village is a short walk from Bugis MRT station, which you can get to on the Downtown Line from Bayfront MRT station near Gardens by the Bay.

Orchard Road Food Courts

  • If you prefer air conditioning to fresh air, you can also eat excellent Singaporean food at many of the indoor food courts on Orchard Road. Most of of these food are located inside malls, making them a more convenient option if you want to go shopping after you eat.
  • Far from the cheap, low quality fast food you can eat at most Western food courts, the shopping mall food courts in Singapore serve excellent food at prices that are barely higher than what you would pay at a hawker centre.
  • Some of the best food courts around Orchard Road include Food Opera , which is located in the basement of ION Orchard, and Food Republic , which is on the fourth floor of Wisma Atria.

Afternoon: National Museum of Singapore and Orchard Road

Orchard Road late at night

National Museum of Singapore

  • Singapore’s oldest museum, the National Museum of Singapore contains a variety of exhibits showcasing Singapore’s natural, political and cultural history. The museum covers the entire history of Singapore, from the Kingdom of Singapura era to WWII and today.
  • Located a short walk from Bras Basah MRT station, the National Museum is also within walking distance of Bugis station. As of 2017, tickets are $15 for non-resident adults and $10 for seniors and students.

Orchard Road

  • ION Orchard. This modern shopping mall is a great place to shop for high-end and high street fashion. It also has a great food court with a selection of affordable restaurants.
  • Orchard Central. One of the best malls on Orchard Road for high street fashion, this is where you’ll want to be if you’re looking for mid-priced clothing. There’s also a climbing wall and art gallery inside the mall.
  • Far East Plaza. This older mall is a great place to hunt for bargain clothes, accessories and souvenirs. Most of the stores here are small, independently owned businesses, with few chains compared to the other malls in the area.

_MG_5765

  • For local street food served in classic Singapore shophouses, head to Chinatown and enjoy a cheap meal on Smith Street, where you can find a great variety of hawkers and local restaurants.
  • Another good budget dining option is Maxwell Road Hawker Centre , which has one of the best selection of food stands of any hawker food court in Singapore.
  • Clarke Quay is where you’ll find most of Singapore’s international restaurants, as well as a good selection of bars. This area is undeniably touristy but still a fun place to enjoy a night out surrounded by the Singapore River and the city’s modern skyline.
  • If you’re looking for fine dining, an unbeatable view of Singapore and don’t mind paying premium prices, Sky on 57 is a great option for a romantic dinner followed by cocktails.

Step 1: Decide When to Go to Singapore

The good news is – there really isn’t a bad time to visit Singapore! It is a year-round destination.

Singapore is situated near the equator and therefore has a typical tropical climate. You can expect it to be hot and humid all year round, and you can expect both sunshine and rain on any given day. The average temperature is around 26-29°C (80-84°F) all year round.

Merlion Singapore with blue sky and Marina Bay Sands in background.

It does not have distinct seasons like summer or winter, although the monsoon seasons (Northeast Monsoon in December to early March, and the Southeast Monsoon in June to September) will bring more rain.

  • The wettest months are November to mid-January.
  • The driest month is February.

It does rain an average of 167 days of the year in Singapore, but don’t be put off! Sunny days are also plentiful and you will find plenty of opportunities to hit the beach, swimming pool and sightsee.

Thanks to its multi-cultural population you can always expect there to be some kind of festival taking place in Singapore. From  Chinese New Year , to Deepavali to Hari Raya Puasa or the Singapore Grand Prix, there is always something culturally or socially exciting going on in Singapore.

Big events, such as the Singapore Grand Prix will affect flight and hotel prices, restaurant availability and also the ease of getting around some parts of the city, so it is a good idea to check what is going on before you set your dates.

Step 2: Work Out Your Travel Budget

So how much does it cost to travel to Singapore? Obviously this will depend on your expectations, interests and travel style.

But yes, Singapore is an expensive city, so it is important to set a budget to stop those expenses from spiralling out of control.

Marina Bay Sands at night.

If you want to stay in a top luxury hotel, go to all the main attractions and eat in Michelin-starred restaurants every night then the sky is really the limit when it comes to cost.

However, there are also plenty of ways you can save costs when visiting Singapore . Here are a few things to bear in mind when setting your budget and some tips for keeping costs down.

All example costs given are in SGD.

  • Accommodation costs can vary from around $25-50 per night for a hostel, to a minimum of $400 per night for a luxury hotel.
  • Both Public transport and taxis are cheap in Singapore. MRT rides range from $1-2.50 per ride and a taxi ride across town should only cost you $5-10 depending on the time of day.
  • The most popular attractions in Singapore (eg. Universal Studios, Gardens by the Bay, Singapore Zoo) tend to come with high ticket prices. Booking tickets via Klook will often get you discounts.
  • Eating out can range from the very cheap (eg. $5 for a dish in a hawker centre) to the very expensive ($400+ for a degustation menu in a Michelin-starred restaurant).
  • Singapore has one of the highest taxes on alcohol in the world. Expect to pay around $15 for a pint of beer in a bar, and $12-18 for a glass of house wine in a restaurant.

Step 3: Planning List and Countdown

From our experience, Singapore doesn’t tend to get fully booked out much in advance. This, of course, is dependent on big events such as the Singapore Grand Prix when accommodation and incoming flights are in high demand.

Singapore CBD skyscrapers.

Also bear in mind that Singapore is a popular conference and events destination, so some of the more popular business hotels and high-end hotels can get block-booked months in advance.

If you have your heart set on a certain hotel, book it as soon as possible. We recommend booking with booking.com as we have found they have the best cancellation terms, in case you change your mind or have to rearrange your travel dates later.

From a cost point of view, you are generally best off booking flights 6 – 12 months in advance for the best deals. Flights tend to get more expensive as time goes on, so booking in advance is advised, especially if you want to travel during school holidays.

Here’s our recommended countdown for planning your Singapore trip:

6-12 months in advance:

  • Check passport validity – your passport needs to be valid for at least six months from the date of your arrival in Singapore.
  • Book international flights
  • Get travel insurance
  • Consider booking accommodation

3 – 6 months in advance:

  • Book accommodation
  • Book any in-demand restaurants

1 month in advance:

  • Get visa, if necessary (read our article about Singapore Visa requirements here)
  • Book attractions and tours
  • Book restaurants
  • Work out how you will access money

Final Week:

  • Complete SG Arrival Card (within 3 days of travel)
  • Pre-book your Singapore SIM card
  • Download Singapore apps for your phone
  • Get some Singapore dollars for arrival

Step 4: Book flights

Singapore’s Changi Airport is one of the world’s busiest transport hubs and so you have a huge choice of air carriers to choose from when flying to Singapore.

Singapore Airlines is one of the best airlines in the world, but it is also an expensive option. If you are flying in from a neighbouring Asian country, you can also take advantage of the variety of budget airlines offering flights to Singapore.

I recommend using Skyscanner to compare all the available options. You can also use it to look for the cheapest days to fly and set up price alerts to receive and email if the price changes.

Step 5: Buy travel insurance

As soon as you have booked your flights (or paid for anything) I highly recommend getting travel insurance. Given the number of cancelled trips, delayed or cancelled flights and lost luggage we have experienced over the past few years, we always make sure we have travel insurance now.

Additionally, be aware that medical and hospital expenses in Singapore are very expensive . This is another reason we always recommend travel insurance for your Singapore trip.

If you are travelling from Australia, we always use CoverMore for our travel insurance. If you are travelling from elsewhere, we suggest you look at Hey Mondo .

Step 6: Book Accommodation

Singapore has accommodation to suit everyone, from some of the world’s most expensive and luxury hotels to hostel dorm rooms and everything in between.

We prefer to use booking.com to book our accommodation, as we find they have the best cancellation terms.

Ann Siang Hill Singapore at nighttime.

Here are a few things to bear in mind when choosing accommodation in Singapore .

  • Hotel room rates in Singapore are subject to a 10% service charge and 8% GST. These surcharges are often not quoted in hotel prices, so be sure to check.
  • Try to choose a hotel close to an MRT station to make travelling around Singapore quick, cheap and easy.
  • Airbnb is illegal in Singapore . You may see Airbnb properties advertised but know that you and the host will be breaking the law if you choose to book one.
  • Hotel rooms tend to be small in Singapore, particularly in the budget category. So be prepared!

Singapore is a pretty small city and you can get to most places in around 20 minutes in a taxi no matter where you are. If you are staying centrally, you can access most popular attractions, shopping and restaurant areas quickly either via public transport or taxi.

Step 7: Create your Singapore itinerary

Now that you have flights and accommodation sorted, it’s time to sort out what you are going to do!

What you can do in Singapore is obviously highly dependent on how long you have in the city. The good thing about Singapore is that, as it is small, you can fit a lot into a day, as you don’t need to build in much travel time.

Chinatown Singapore street scene.

Having said that, however, remember that it will be hot and humid for sightseeing and so we always recommend building in some time to chill by the pool or take some time out indoors in the air conditioning!

You can easily plan an activity for the morning and another for the afternoon, and even another for the evening if you have the energy. Don’t forget to plan your lunches and dinners too, as there is a lot of amazing food in Singapore and you won’t want to miss out!

You can check out our itinerary suggestions to help build your own Singapore itinerary:

  • 2 Day Singapore Itinerary
  • 3 Day Singapore Itinerary
  • 5 Day Singapore Itinerary
  • 7 Day Singapore Itinerary

Step 8: Book your attractions, tours and activities

It’s not usually necessary to book ahead for most attractions, so if you can be flexible, you can wait to see what the weather is like in the morning before booking.

Big Bus Tour Singapore.

I still prefer to book my tickets online to save queuing at the ticket kiosk. Additionally, some attractions have capacity limits with time slots allocated (eg. the ArtScience Museum), so it is a good idea to book ahead before turning up, or at least check the website.

Click here to read my pick of the best things to do in Singapore to help you with your planning. Visiting with kids? Check here for lots of fun things to do with kids in Singapore .

I am a big fan of taking at least one guided tour in Singapore. This way, you’ll be guided by local Singaporeans who are knowledgeable, fun and keen to share their love of their hometown with you.

There are loads of excellent sightseeing tours in Singapore , including food tours, bike tours, hop-on-hop-off bus tours and more.

Our two favourite websites for booking attractions and tours are Klook (you can often get good discounted tickets for attractions) and GetYourGuide (we mostly use them for tours, but they have some attraction tickets too).

Step 9: Book restaurants

Singapore food is legendary and one of the highlights of visiting Singapore is definitely the delicious food you can find here.

The melting pot of cultures in Singapore has led to an incredible variety of food on offer and you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to cuisines and restaurants.

Dining with a view of Marina Bay Singapore.

And no matter what your budget, you can eat well in Singapore. A dish in a hawker centre will cost you just around $5.00. We definitely recommend visiting at least one hawker centre during your visit to enjoy some of the amazing local Singaporean food .

If you are a fan of fine dining, then you have that in abundance in Singapore too, with a total of 52 Michelin-starred restaurants to choose from.

If you have your heart set on a particular restaurant, I recommend that you book well ahead. Some of the most popular fine dining restaurants, or restaurants with a view , can be booked up months in advance. Even some of the more popular mid-range restaurants can require bookings a few weeks in advance.

So if you don’t want to be disappointed – be organised!

Of course, if you are not too particular about where you eat, you will find plenty of casual restaurants where you can just turn up and ask for a table too.

Step 10: Organise your money and credit cards

The local currency in Singapore is the Singapore dollar. It is a good idea to get some Singapore dollars before you arrive in Singapore, as you may need cash to pay for your transport from Changi airport to the city .

People running with Singapore CBD in background.

It is also a good idea to carry some cash with you while in Singapore. While credit and debit cards are widely accepted, some taxis will only accept cash (or their card machine may not be working), and you will need cash to pay at most hawker stalls.

You can use a debit or credit card to tap on and off public transport. Note that foreign-issued cards can incur extra charges though, so if you plan on using a lot of public transport, it can work out cheaper to get an EZ-Link card. Read more in our Singapore public transport guide here.

Prior to your trip, you should review the cards you are taking with you and check foreign currency charges and ATM withdrawal fees when overseas. You may want to consider a foreign currency card like the  Wise Travel Money Card , where you can convert Singapore dollars easily and cheaply from other currency accounts.

It is always a good idea to inform your bank before you go so that they don’t block your card due to unusual activity.

Step 11: Organise phone coverage and internet access

You will find many places in Singapore offer free WiFi. However, it is still a good idea to sort out some sort of roaming or buy a Singapore tourist SIMcard , particularly if you plan to use your phone to order taxis etc.

Check with your phone provider at home if they have a day-charge for Singapore. Otherwise, our favourite option is to buy a Singtel Tourist SIM card for$12 SGD. This gives you the following over 14 days:

  • 100GB 4G data
  • 500 mins local calls
  • 30 mins IDD calls

Click here to buy your Singtel Tourist SIM card now and pick it up at Changi Airport on arrival.

Step 12: Get ready for departure!

It’s time to get ready to travel! Here are a few last-minute reminders of what you need to do in the week before you travel.

  • Submit your SG Arrival Card – all visitors to Singapore must fill this in 3 days prior to your date of arrival (including the date of arrival). You can  fill it in online here .
  • Download some Singapore Apps – there are a few apps that we recommend using in Singapore. These include Grab or Gojek for booking taxis and the MyTransport.SG app for using public transport.
  • Suncream – it’s always hot in Singapore, and even on a cloudy day, we recommend applying sunscreen before you head out for the day or head to the pool.
  • Insect repellent – You will definitely need to include bug spray. As well as being a nuisance, Singapore has dengue fever so be sure to protect yourselves from the mosquitos.
  • Umbrella – even when a day starts out with bright sunshine, it can soon turn into a thunderstorm, so it’s always a good idea to have an umbrella in your bag.
  • Travel adaptor – The standard electrical voltage in Singapore is 220V and most electrical sockets take the standard UK style 3-prong plugs.
  • Refillable water bottle – Due to the humidity, you should be sure to drink plenty of water in Singapore. Tap water is safe to drink here and so a refillable water bottle is essential.

Since visiting Singapore for a second time recently, it’s up there as one of my favourite cities in Asia . I’m going to share my Singapore itinerary in the hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I did. I’d recommend spending 2 days in Singapore to see the essential sights on day 1 then get immersed in the quirky and cultural neighbourhoods during day 2. Oh, and because in 2 days you can eat double the amount of delicious meals you can in one!

How many days are enough for Singapore?

While you could easily spend longer, two days in Singapore is enough for a first visit. In this guide, I’ll share the best things to do in Singapore in 2 days including must-visit attractions and colourful neighbourhoods.

Best season to visit Singapore

December to June is the perfect time to visit Singapore as it’s slightly cooler than the humid summer months. Due to the optimum weather, January and February are the most crowded months. If you can handle the rain and humidity, visit July-November for cheaper prices and fewer crowds.

How to get to Singapore

Most people arrive in Singapore by air. The main airport is Changi Airport. I use Skyscanner to find the best-value flights, using the ‘search by month’ tool to find the cheapest dates. Use Klook to book your airport transfer. By bus: if you’re going to Malaysia before or after, consider arriving in Singapore by bus. It takes 4-5 hours to reach Kuala Lumpur and 3.5 hours to Melaka . Use 12go to book your bus .

How to get around Singapore

Subway: The MRT is efficient, clean and inexpensive. Tickets cost between S$0.90-$2 and can be bought at ticket machines in the station. Public bus: Singapore is well connected by bus. Simply use a contactless Visa or Mastercard to tap and pay. Taxi: Hail a metered taxi or call Grab using the app (similar to Uber). Bicycle: There are plenty of cycle paths and bike rentals in Singapore. Open-top bus: It may be the most touristic way to get around but it’s fun and scenic. Get your ticket . Cable car: Connecting Singapore with Sentosa, this cable car lets you soak up panoramic views as you travel. Get your ticket . The Duck Tour: Travel by land and water in the same vehicle thanks to the quirky duck tour of Singapore. See the sights while travelling in an old WWII vehicle. Get your ticket .

Is the Go City Explorer Pass worth it?

I didn’t purchase this pass myself since I’d seen many of the attractions on previous visits to Singapore. However, if you’re just here 2 days and want to pack in plenty of sights, consider the pass including 2-7 attractions or the full 35+ attraction pass . Transport options like the cable car, riverboat cruise and open-top bus are included from $50.

Staying connected

GetYourGuide offer a fantastic eSim data plan that lets you stay connected while exploring Singapore. You don’t need to collect it anywhere: they’ll email you a QR code which you can instantly activate and start roaming. Yay! Get yours here from $4 . You can also upgrade it to work in 10 other Asian countries including Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam & China.

Where to stay in Singapore

Singapore isn’t a cheap city for accommodation but you have a few options. Here’s where to stay in Singapore …

  • Hostel – Stay at Dream Lodge for spacious pod bunks with personal lockers and reading lights. The hostel is located centrally within a 1950s-period property. Check availability from US$61 .
  • Budget hotel – Location-wise, you can’t do better than Hotel 1900 in Chinatown. Recently refurbished with modern facilities and spotless rooms, it’s an ideal base for exploring Singapore’s main attractions. Check availability from US$102 .
  • Mid-range – With a rooftop pool, an in-house restaurant, and a fitness centre, 30 Bencoolen is a top-rated hotel in the heart of Singapore. Check availability from US$190 .
  • Splash-out – If you want to stay in Singapore in style, then don’t miss Conrad Centennial Singapore , located within the iconic Marina Bay and walking distance from the city’s most famous sights. This six-star hotel features an outdoor pool, fitness centre and spa, plus three exquisite dining options. Check availability from US$383 .

Singapore itinerary

So, how do you want to live? I loved eating $2 roti and paneer with my hands on the roadside while chatting with the Indian restaurant owners about their lives in Singapore. However, I love the modern and luxurious downtown core just as much. The futuristic Gardens by the Bay and the elegance of Marina Bay Sands temporarily convince me I’m a wealthy heiress, poised to tap my Amex for one more Singapore Sling. There are many different styles in which to explore Singapore but I hope this upcoming itinerary gives you a bit of both: street food, sky bars, culture, history and the must-see attractions for a first visit!

Cloud Forest Singapore itinerary

Singapore itinerary overview

  • Day 1 – Gardens by the Bay, Cloud Forest, ArtScience Museum, the Merlion, Gluttons Bay Hawker Market, Marina Bay Spectra light show, skyline drinks
  • Day 2 – China Town, Arab Quarter, Haji Lane, Little India.

Now for the details…

Day 1 – explore the core

Many of the glamorous sights of Singapore are positioned around the HarbourFront. Wander the area to discover the Merlion, Gardens by the Bay, the Cloud Forest and numerous impressive shopping centres (get used to Venice replica boats cruising inside them!). Here’s what to do in 2 days in Singapore…

The Gardens by the Bay

Gardens by the Bay

The Gardens by the Bay look like something from Avatar or a film set in the year 3000 ( not much has changed but we live underwater! – my millennial UK readers will get the reference!). They’re different depending on whether you visit during the day or night. I did both which is the best way to experience them to the fullest.

Not only do they look impressive, but they’re also doing Singapore a service. They provide a habitat for animals, act as a water filtration system and use solar panels. The plants and flowers growing up them give off valuable nitrogen to the urban city centre. Their sustainable efforts make me love them even more – but I would regardless! One of my favourite experiences was lying underneath them at midnight watching their twinkling bulbs. In the daytime, you can spend an hour or two wandering around them.

Entrance fee: the trees are free to view from the ground or you can pay S$8 to take the 22-metre high OCBC Skyway walk. Buy a skip-the-line ticket in advance . Opening times: 9am-9pm daily. Opening hours: You can walk around the grove from 5am-2am while the ticketed skywalk is open from 9am-9pm (last ticket sale 8pm).

The Cloud Forest

Cloud Forest

This is a must when spending 2 days in Singapore. During my first visit, I missed the Cloud Forest due to the S$45 price tag which in retrospect was an error. The conservatory is enormous with several levels and bridges to wander while admiring the flora and fauna. Make sure you time your visit around a ‘misting’ (or kill some time waiting for one) when the dome fills with mist like a tropical rainforest. It’s so atmospheric!   Entrance price: S$45 for the Cloud Forest alone / S$54 including the Flower Dome. Opening times: 9am-9pm.

The ArtScience Museum

ArtScience Museum itinerary Singapore

If you catch a skyline view of Singapore, you won’t miss the giant lotus-shaped building nestled on the waterfront. Inside is the ArtScience Museum . My motivation for visiting was the sparkly Digital Light Canvas (pictured above), though I don’t believe this is a permanent fixture. Everything was interactive including a light show using visual trickery to make you feel as if the walls and floors of the room were moving. Entrance price: S$14 including the exhibition. Buy a skip-the-line ticket in advance . Opening times: 7am-7pm daily.

The Merlion

Merlion at night

It may seem strange that an animal only found in Africa has become a symbol for Singapore. How? Rumour has it that many years ago a tiger was spotted in Singapore (presumably having swum over from Indonesia) and mistaken for a lion. Somehow this resulted in respect for the animals, and this statue was subsequently built as a tourist attraction in the 1980s. Swing by to visit this emblem of Singapore and snap a few photos. It’s particularly atmospheric at night. To get there , cross the Esplanade Bridge. Alternatively, take a Singapore riverboat cruise past it.

Dinner at Makansutra Gluttons Bay

gluttons-bay-food-court

Although there are countless hawker markets in Singapore, one of the best is Makansutra Gluttons Bay , conveniently located near Marina Square and the Esplanade. Grab a seat at one of the outdoor shared tables and browse the many food stands before settling on what you want.

Read next: the best Singapore dishes to try

From chilli crab to laksa, satay and Hokkien mee (noodles with prawn and egg), your only problem will be deciding what to order! If it’s too much, take a hawker market tour with a local guide and try a ton of dishes.

Gawp at Marina Bay Sands

Marina Bay Sands is a famous hotel and resort with a distinctive boat-shaped roof with a pool on top (strictly for hotel guests only). If you haven’t got $400+ a night for a room, head up to the Sands Sky Park Observation Deck (between 9am-11pm) to admire spectacular views from the 57th floor. Tickets cost S$15 . This iconic part of Singapore is best visited in the early evening it’s beginning to get dark and the city lights are starting to switch on. At 8pm on weekdays (and 8pm and 9pm on weekends), the Spectra light show illuminates the area with dancing lights, music, sights and colours; a real Asia bucket list experience! No tickets are required; just show up at the Marina Bay Sands building and sit outdoors in the area known as Event Plaza. It’s free and lasts around 15 minutes.

Ce la Vi Bar Singapore itinerary

Saturday night – grab a skyline drink

During your 2 da y Singapore itinerary, take a trip to CÉ LA VI , the bar at the top of the Marina Bay Sands hotel where you’ll either purchase a drink at the bar or buy a S$ 20 token at the entrance (the system changes depending on how busy the evening is). Either way, cocktails are about S$20 so we opted for a Singapore Fling – a frozen version of the iconic Sling – and dragged out our time at the top. We got to see the city light show ( 8pm and 9pm each night) from above which was incredible.

More things to do in Singapore at night :

  • Drink a Singapore Sling cocktail in their birthplace, Raffles Hotel
  • Take a city lights dinner cruise finishing with fireworks
  • Watch the Garden Rhapsody light show at 7.45pm and 8.45pm at the Gardens by the Bay
  • Take a UNESCO hawker centres food tasting tour at 5pm
  • Experience the nightlife at Clarke Quay : here you’ll find plenty of clubs and bars that stay open ’til late. If you want to drink somewhere cheaper and more laidback, head to Boat Quay instead.

Day 2 – get your culture fix

Once you’ve seen the glamorous, futuristic centre of Singapore, a day of culture is on the cards. The diversity of Singapore is another thing I love about the city: the Indian, Chinese and Malay groups make Singapore a melting pot of religious temples and delicious ethnic eats. For the ultimate Singapore itinerary for 2 days, here’s how I’d recommend spending the last day .. .

Chinatown Singapore itinerary 2 days

Singapore’s Chinatown is the perfect place to shop for your souvenirs and eat absolutely everything. Food Street is just one of the many places you can do this. Tuck into dim sum, chilli crab, satay and much more. Wander the lantern-lined streets even if you’re not hungry – it’s a lively part of Singapore.

Buddha Tooth Relic Temple

We paid a visit to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple , an integral part of the community. Here you can give the world’s largest prayer wheel a spin or watch Buddhist monks chant during regular ceremonies. It’s thought that a tooth from the sacred Buddha himself is enshrined in the fourth floor’s relic room. It’s open from 7am-7pm daily. Entry is free . Don’t miss the chilled rooftop garden!

Haji Lane and the Arab Quarter

Haji Lane

Jump into a brand new culture as you visit this friendly, vibrant area of town. This was one of my favourite areas during my recent 2 days in Singapore. Grab a cheap lunch at the market stands by the mosque, or alternatively, dine at one of the stunning mosaic cafes serving quality Middle Eastern food. There are plenty of cafes and juice bars on Haji Lane but be prepared to pay inflated prices in this popular part of town.

Arab Quarter

While Haji Lane is geared to tourists, walk just one minute into Kampong Glam, just off Arab Street, to visit the Masjid Sultan (mosque) for free. Lining the walkways to the spot of worship are various food stands selling everything from jalebi and other Indian sweets to fresh fruit and savoury snacks. Masjid Sultan opening times: Visit from 10am-12pm and 2-4pm from Sat-Thurs and from 2.30-4pm on Friday.

Another attraction in Kampong Glam is the Malay Heritage Centre , a great place to learn about local history.

Little India

Singapore street art

Get ready to mix it up again as you say goodbye to the Arab Quarter and hello to the stunning Hindu temples of Little India. This neighbourhood is one of the most colourful in town and many tourists stop to pose on this famous corner.

Colourful houses Little India

Look out for all the Singapore street art in this part of town!

I feel I may have discovered my spirit home in this part of town, not least for the incredible street art and moreish food. I ate a very cheap and local murtabak (a fried roti stuffed with chicken and veg) on the street corner at Big Boss Bistro and a slightly more upmarket curry dinner at Banana Leaf Apollo . Both meals were fantastic (and about S$10 and S$25pp respectively including drinks). If you can time your arrival for early evening, it’s an atmospheric dinner spot for a Singapore two day itinerary.

Visit the Indian Heritage Centre on Campbell Street to learn about the community that call Little India home, and Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple to see a colourful and intricately detailed place of worship.

Budget for 2 days in Singapore

As I mentioned, there’s something for all budgets in Singapore. You can visit Singapore on a budget of $30 a day or splurge $300! Visiting the Cloud Forest (S$45 including the Flower Dome), the ArtScience Museum (S$14 for the exhibition) and a drink at Marina Bay Sands (S$20) likely be your most expensive day. However, during a day exploring Little India, the Arab Quarter and Chinatown you can get away with just buying food as all of the entrance costs are free.   Eat local food and you could spend less than S$30 during 2 days in Singapore but eat at the restaurants in Marina Bay Sands and you could spend hundreds. I noticed that alcohol in Singapore was relatively expensive compared to food: in hawker markets, you can pick up a main dish for S$4 but not a beer.

Transport is very cheap in Singapore. Underground train journeys on the MRT tend to cost around 90 cents. You’ll want to get a cab to the airport as it’s a long journey on public transport – a metered taxi will cost around S$20 from Changi Airport or you can pre-book your airport pick-up .

Indian curry Singapore itinerary

Food experiences in Singapore

  • 13-dish food tour with a born-and-bred local (A Chef’s Tour)
  • Cooking class to make a 3-course Singaporean lunch
  • Historical bike tour with traditional snacks
  • Nightime hawker market tour with tastings

Got more than 2 days in Singapore?

If you have extra time, here are a few extra Singapore activities. If any of the below activities appeal to you more than the above, consider rejigging your Singapore itinerary to include them.

Koon Seng Road

Singapore’s most colourful street is Koon Seng, built by the Peranakan Chinese community. This vibrant part of town has a long history and also makes for a fantastic photo stop.

Read next: Koon Seng Road – a guide to Singapore’s most colourful street

Koon Seng Road

Near Katong neighbourhood, Koon Seng is best accessed by bus or taxi .

Orchard Road

If you love to shop, don’t miss Orchard Road . After starting life as a humble orchard, it’s now Singapore’s premier retail area known for its many shops and department stores. TANGs was the first in the area and remains one of the most popular, styled like a Chinese pagoda. When you’re all shopped out, there are art galleries, restaurants and bars. Nearby you’ll find Emerald Hill , a historical street featuring more Peranakan houses and a range of cool coffee shops.

Botanical Gardens

botanical gardens

Singapore Botanic Gardens are a wonderful source of flora and fauna should you have time to visit them. Designated as the first UNESCO site in Singapore back in 2015, they’re a well-loved part of the city thanks to the National Orchid Garden and the Children’s Garden. Arrive into Botanic Gardens MRT Station, right beside the gardens. Entry is free . Opening times: 5am-midnight.

Sentosa Island

If you have a spare day or half-day, consider adding Sentosa to your Singapore travel itinerary. Singapore’s island resort is home to Universal Studio , S.E.A Aquarium , Madam Tussauds and countless other attractions. Since Sentosa translates as ‘peace and tranquillity’ in Malay, it’s only fitting that there are world-class spas and natural wonders including jungles and beaches. Finish your day by relaxing with a sunset beer on beautiful Palawan Beach. Sentosa is easy to reach from Singapore: take the road, cable car or monorail.

Singapore useful links Flights – I use Skyscanner to find the best-value flights, using the ‘search by month’ tool to find the cheapest dates. You can also use the ‘to anywhere’ feature if you’re flexible on where you’re going. Stay connected with E-sim data plans that don’t require delivery or collection; just scan the QR code. In my opinion, Lonely Planet offer the best guidebooks. Get the latest Lonely Planet Singapore . For buses to Malaysia , I use 12GoAsia . The search feature allows you to compare prices and durations. I use Booking.com for accommodation. They have the best range of hotels and self-catering apartments, plus you can filter by review score and price to find the best-rated budget places. For hostels, I use Hostelworld . To save money on accommodation, I use Trusted Housesitters , a website that connects homeowners going away and travellers who can sit their homes & pets. For activities, I use GetYourGuide and Viator as they both have a huge range of affordable tours. Need travel insurance ? I use True Traveller (for UK & Europe residents) since it’s affordable but covers everything you’d need including various activities, valuables and pre-existing conditions. Unlike some companies, they insure you if you’re already travelling / don’t yet have your flight home booked. Get a quote . For travel insurance for other nationalities, I recommend Hey Mundo and for long-term digital nomad travellers, I suggest Safety Wing . trip singapore 1 hari

Baca juga: 15 Tempat Wisata di Singapura untuk Kamu Jelajahi Sampai Puas!

Itinerary Hari Ke-1

4-10 Day Singapore Malaysia Itinerary: Enjoy The Perfect Singapore And Malaysia Trip!

Singapore Malaysia Itinerary For 4-10 Days

Day 1 – arrive in singapore.

 Gardens By The Bay Singapore

Today is an introduction to Singapore.

  • Start the day at Gardens by the Bay. Visit the conservatories and OCBC Skyway ( tickets here) where you walk among the futuristic trees. If you have kids, take bathers and also visit the childrens gardens. This is my favourite attraction in all of Singapore so don’t skip it! If you are on a budget, it’s still worth coming and walking around for free.
  • Have lunch in the shopping centre at the base of the iconic Marina Bay Sands which is right next to Gardens by the Bay.
  • Take the short train trip to Clarke Quay and walk though here and the historic Fort Canning on your way to the next attraction.
  • Spend the afternoon at the National Museum of Singapore ( discount tickets here ).

Day 2 – Singapore

Singapore's Chinatow

Today is all about discovering Singapore’s three main cultural groups.

  • Start the day with some breakfast in Little India and then visit Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple.
  • Walk to the nearby Malay area of Kampong Glam. Visit the Malay Heritage Centre and Sultan Mosque before having some Malay food for lunch.
  • Finish with some temple visits in Chinatown before shopping for souvenirs at the markets here and having some great Chinese food for dinner.

Day 3 – Singapore

Sentosa Island and merlion

Your final day in Singapore is all about fun, Sentosa Island style! Sentosa Island is a small island just off the tip of Singapore which is easily reached by public transport, cable car or even walking over. It’s packed full of fun attractions and is Singapore’s playground.

It’s full of top class facilities and just walking around is fun. There are so many different attractions that it’s hard for me to say exactly what you should add to your Singapore Malaysia trip itinerary. It depends on your interests and budget as the attractions can be expensive and add up quickly. There are also many free attractions on Sentosa which you may prefer to stick to.

Here are my top recommendations:

  • Start by heading to the Merlion Plaza and taking a photo of the Sentosa sign with the giant merlion as pictured above. Consider climbing up inside the Merlion Tower for great views ( tickets here ).
  • Take the Skyline Luge and chair lift. This is one of our favourites!
  • For more adrenaline rushes, try Mega Adventure where you can zipline and take a 15 metre jump or fly at iFly !
  • Visit easily one of the best aquariums in the world at S.E.A. Aquarium ( tickets here ).
  • If you have kids, visit the Palawan Pirate Ship. A free (and amazing) water playground.
  • Walk to the Southern Most Point of Continental Asia.
  • Enjoy the beaches
  • Visit Fort Siloso and learn some WWII history

In the evening, head to the free light shows at Resorts World Sentosa.

I also recommend you take the cable car over one way ( discount tickets here ). The views are great! I also love Universal Studios Singapore but with one day, I would go to a few different attractions instead rather than spending the day at one so you get a better taste of Sentosa Island.

To save money and time, buy attraction tickets beforehand at Klook. We have saved so much money this way. Click here for many options.

There is also the Sentosa Fun Pass that can save you a lot of money. You basically buy a number of tokens and then exchange these tokens at various attractions on the island. The number you need depends on what you want to see. I suggest you will at least want 80.

You can find the Sentosa Fun Pass here and information about how many tokens are required for each attraction here.

Where To Stay In Singapore

Here are our best options for each budget. Pick the one that best suits you.

LUXURY: Marina Bay Sands

trip singapore 1 hari

For luxury and the ultimate Singapore experience, you can’t go past the Marina Bay Sands, one of the most iconic hotel buildings in the world.

Have great views over Singapore as you relax in the infinity pool or visit the Sands SkyPark Observation Deck. Shop and eat in the downstairs shopping centre or enjoy one of the many hotel restuarants or room service. You can use the gym, day spa or simply have a drink at the pool bar.

There are a range of room types with doubles and twins on offer. All are spacious and well appointed and have everything you would expect in a 5 star hotel. You can pick the view you want and there are suites for extra luxury with their own living area.

In addition to staying in a fabulous hotel, you are also just moments walk away from Gardens By The Bay and other top Singapore attractions and there is a subway station below the hotel making sightseeing easy. This is the ultimate Singapore hotel and you have to stay here at least once!

Click here for the latest prices.

MIDRANGE: Village Hotel Bugis

trip singapore 1 hari

The Village Hotel Bugis is our favourite hotel for a mix of a great price, very convenient location and a good standard of rooms and facilties. Located close to Bugis MRT station and many shopping centres, it’s easy to get around to all of Singapore here. It’s also located in the Malay area, Kampong Glam, and a short walk from Little India.

There are a range of room types which are all comfortable and well appointed, if on the cosy side. This includes family options which makes this a great choice with kids – we have stayed here with ours multiple times.

The hotel also has a swimming pool, gym and restaurants.

BUDGET: Backpacker Cozy Corner Guesthouse

trip singapore 1 hari

For bargain seekers, the Backpacker Cozy Corner Guesthouse is also located in a convenient location near Bugis MRT and has everything you need for a budget Singapore stopover with excellent value rooms for the location and price.

Rooms include air conditioning and wifi and there are 2, 3 and 4 people rooms available. To save money, they do not have private bathrooms.

Singapore And Malaysia Itinerary 4 days

If you have just 4 days, use your final day in your Singapore Malaysia itinerary 4 days to do a day trip into Malaysia. Below, there are a range of Malaysia day trip options. Click here to read them and pick one!

My personal favourite is a fun day at Legoland Malaysia , but pick whichever most appeals to you.

We can book a taxi for you for the day to take you into Malaysia and back into Singapore again. Click here and fill in the form with what you want and we’ll get back to you.

If you are only looking for a Singapore Malaysia itinerary 3 days then cut out one of the Singapore days above which is least appealing.

Want the Easiest (and BEST) Way to travel between Singapore and Malaysia?

We can book a taxi for you from anywhere in Malaysia to anywhere in Singapore for a great price.

A taxi is the best way to cross the border as you don’t have to leave the air-conditioned comfort of your vehicle.

Click here for prices and online booking.

Day 4 –Johor Bahru

Legoland Malaysia

It’s time to say a sad goodbye to Singapore before heading over the causeway to more adventures in Malaysia!

There is more information below about how to travel between Malaysia and Singapore. It’s very straightforward.

We can also hire a taxi for you which picks you up at your hotel in Singapore and drops you off at your hotel in Johor Bahru for just SG$90. Click here to book and for more details.

Today, you will have a great day at Legoland Malaysia. You can buy discounted tickets here.

Day 5 – Johor Bahru And Melaka

Central Johor Bahru

This morning, it’s time to see some of Johor Bahru before catching a bus in the afternoon to Melaka.

  • Head to central Johor Bahru near the causeway to Singapore. You can do some shopping or explore the streets to the west of the main strip here. Some are quite pretty and it’s a nice area to stroll around. Eat lunch before leaving Johor Bahru.
  • Take a taxi to the main bus station in Johor Bharu, Larkin Bus Terminal, and then take a bus to Melaka. You can book bus tickets here on some great bus services. The bus takes about three hours and I recommend you book a bus for the early afternoon.
  • Take a taxi to your hotel, freshen up and head to Jonker Street in the evening. If it’s Friday or Saturday night, enjoy the night market, but there are plenty of places to eat any night on this famous strip.

Note that Melaka and Malacca are different ways to spell the same place.

If you have your own vehicle on this journey, I recommend stopping at Muar on your way. It does not take much extra time to do this, but Muar is a pretty city with some great street art and is a great plae to break up the journey.

Read more about Muar here.

Where To Stay In Johor Bahru

Luxury: doubletree by hilton hotel johor bahru.

trip singapore 1 hari

Located just minutes from the Causeway in a convenient location, the DoubleTree by Hilton Johor Bahru is a great choice if you want a luxury hotel which is easy to use as a base to explore both Johor Bahru and Singapore.

Despite not being rated as a five-star hotel, it is our top pick of the options near the Causeway. It has first class facilities including a stunning outdoor swimming pool on the 13th floor, four restaurants, gym, steam room, spa and wifi.

Each of the hotel’s spacious guest rooms have everything you would expect from a top option such as air conditioning, TV, tea and coffee making facilities and a pillow menu. There are also larger suites with separate living areas as well as rooms which are apartment style and have a kitchenette with washing machine. All this for a great price!

MIDRANGE: Puteri Pacific Johor Bahru

hourly rate hotel in Johor Bahru

For a midrange price option, you can’t go past the Puteri Pacific Johor Bahru. Also well located near the Causeway and shopping, this is a great base for Singapore and Johor Bahru exploration.

There are many facilities at this hotel. You can use the tennis and squash courts, a gym, sauna and a yoga studio.  Other facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, a day spa, three onsite restaurants and bars.

There are a range of accommodation options at this hotel. In addition to standard hotel rooms, you can book a room with a separate living and sleeping area or even a room with a kitchenette.

BUDGET: Baguss Hotel And Serviced Apartment

trip singapore 1 hari

For a real bargain, consider the Baguss Hotel and Serviced Apartments. Close to the Causeway and downtown shopping areas, this standard, 3-star hotel is especially a great choice for families and groups looking for accommodation.

There are a range of hotel rooms suitable from two to four people. Each hotel room includes air conditioning, a TV, wifi, tea and coffee making facilities and a refrigerator. For larger groups, there are 3 bedroom apartments which can accommodate up to 6 people. These apartments include a kitchen and lounge room.

Find more Johor Bahru accommodation options here.

Singapore Malaysia Itinerary 5 Days

If you are looking for a 5 days 4 nights Singapore Malaysia itinerary then you can do the five days above and head back to Singapore to fly out on day 5 instead of on to Melaka.

You could also consider spending all 5 days in Singapore and just taking a day trip to Johor Bahru. If money isn’t an issue, this is a good choice. Otherwise, it is more budget friendly to stay in Johor Bahru accommodation.

If Melaka sounds interesting to you, you could also follow the first four days above and then do a day trip to Melaka on the final day of your Singapore Malaysia 5 days itinerary ( find one here ). This is a long day but I have done it myself and it’s very doable.

You can also hire a private taxi here for the day to travel quickly and easily to Malaysia for the day.

Day 6 – Melaka

Melaka's pretty waterfront

Today is all about exploring Melaka’s historic centre and Chinatown before heading to your final stop, Kuala Lumpur, in the evening.

Get your walking legs on! Everything mentioned here is close and, while you can take taxis or trishaws to get around, the attractions are so close together that there is no real need.

  • Start at the Sultanate Palace where you can walk through a replica of the palace of Sultan Mansur Shah who ruled Melaka from 1456 to 1477.
  • Take a photo of Porta de Santiago and explore the ruins of St Paul’s Church.
  • Walk downhill to Stradthuys, the town hall and governor’s residence that dates back to the Dutch in 1650. Trishaws tend to congregate here so you can go on a ride on one if you like.
  • Walk over the river to Chinatown and head to 8 Heeren Street to check out this 18th century Dutch period residence.
  • Next, walk through Chinatown to Baba and Nonya Heritage Centre.
  • By now, you have probably worked up an appetite. Eat some lunch.
  • Finish your Melaka day tour by visiting three temples all close together: Cheng Hoon Temple, Masjid Kampung Kling and Sri Poyatha Venayagar Moorthi Temple.

In the late afternoon, catch your onward bus to Kuala Lumpur. This takes about 2.5 hours and I recommend booking a bus from 3-4pm.

Click here to book it now.

On arrival, check in to your hotel. If you feel like going out, head to the night markets in Petaling Street or Jalan Alor.

You can find our recommend hotels in Kuala Lumpur here.

Where To Stay In Melaka

Luxury: casa del rio melaka .

Located in a premium position just 300 metres from Jonker Street and right by the river, you will find the best option in Melaka, the stunning 5-star luxury boutique hotel, Casa del Rio Melaka Hotel.

There are a a range of room types on offer including options for up to 6 people in two-bedroom suites. All rooms include standard fittings such as a TV, wifi, tea and coffee making facilities, air conditioning and a desk. If you book a suite, you will also have separate living and dining areas. Some suites even include an outdoor spa.

This hotel features first-class facilities with a stunning infinity swimming pool offering views across the Melaka River as well as three restaurants, a gym, a rooftop garden and day spa.

MIDRANGE: Swiss-Garden Hotel Melaka

This 5-star hotel at a midrange price point is a great choice. Located along the Melaka River just a short taxi ride from Jonker St, the Swiss-Garden Hotel offers guests modern accommodation.

There are a range of rooms which accommodate up to two guests and include all the standard amenities including a TV, air conditioning, wi-fi, tea and coffee making facilities, private balcony and seating area.

You can also book a suite which includes separate dining and living areas. Some rooms  also include panoramic views of the ocean and the Melaka River. Ask for a high level!

The Swiss-Garden Hotel includes a range of great facilities including two big swimming pools, a tennis court and the Sky Garden rooftop bar. The hotel also has direct access to a shopping mall.

BUDGET: T Hotel Melaka

trip singapore 1 hari

The T Hotel which is located in Melaka City just a 15 minutes walk from Jonker Street, is a good choice for budget travellers.

They offer double, twin, triple or family suites. All are comfortable and clean and come with air conditioning, wifi, a TV, tea and coffee facilities and a seating area.

You can find more options for where to stay in Melaka here .

Singapore Malaysia Itinerary For 7 Days

Merlion statue fountain in Merlion Park and Singapore city skyline

If you are looking for a 6 nights 7 days Singapore Malaysia itinerary you could stop right here. This does mean that you don’t have much time in Kuala Lumpur. If you would prefer some time in Kuala Lumpur (which I do recommend), drop either Johor Bahur or Melaka, whichever appeals less. It’s easy to get buses from Singapore to Melaka directly or from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur.

You can then pick a day or two from the following three recommmend days in Kuala Lumpur for your Singapore Malaysia itinerary 7 days.

Days 7-9 Kuala Lumpur

trip singapore 1 hari

Three days in Kuala Lumpur is a great amount of time to get a good taste of this city on your Malaysia Singapore trip.

You can read my full (and detailed) itinerary for 3 days in Kuala Lumpur here.

Singapore Malaysia Itinerary For 10 Days

If you have 10 days, you can add an extra day to Kuala Lumpur using my suggestions in my 3 day itinerary article here .

You could also add an extra day to Singapore if that appeals more or if you want to do an activity there like visit Universal Studios. However, if you are looking for a Singapore Malaysia budget itinerary then the less time in more expensive Singapore, the less you will need to spend so Kuala Lumpur can be a better pick.

Batu Caves

Singapore And Malaysia Trip 10+ Days

If you have more than ten days, yay! There are so many great places that you can add on in Malaysia.

I have a full itinerary document here for Malaysia travel for ten days. This includes travelling to Ipoh, Penang and Langkawi after Kuala Lumpur so you can add one or all of these destinations to the itinerary above to create a plan for up to 17 days.

Click here to download it now.

If you want to visit Thailand as well, you can find itineraries here which include Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand as well as other south east Asia destinations.

Singapore To Malaysia Day Trip

Desaru Coast

If you don’t have time for a big Singapore Malaysia adventure then you may just with to take a one day trip to Malaysia from Singapore. With a timeframe of less than 5 days, this is what I recommend.

This is completely possible and you could spend a 1 day trip to Malaysia from Singapore doing one of the days in the itinerary above to Johor Bahru or Melaka. Just note with Melaka that you will spend a lot of time travelling over the day but it is highly possible – I have done it myself.

Singapore to Malaysia day trip ideas:

  • Legoland Malaysia: The easiest and maybe most fun suggestion is to spend a day at Legoland Malaysia. There are buses directly here from Singapore and it’s a fun and easy place to enjoy. More details here .
  • Johor Bahru: You can catch the local bus over the causeway and explore central Johor Bahru.
  • Melaka: You can either pay for an expensive day tour here (easiest option) or save on your Singapore Malaysia trip cost and take public transport from Singapore to Melaka and back again and explore Melaka on your own, as per day 6 above. The bus takes about four hours each way so buy your ticket in advance and go early.
  • Desaru Coast: This coastal area in Malaysia is just one hour from Singapore with a half-hour ferry ( buy here ) and half-hour shuttle and is perfect if you would like some white sandy beach time or to have some fun visiting attractions such as a huge water park, ostrich, fruit or crocodile farm.

The easiest way to day trip to Malaysia is in your own private taxi. We can hire you one of the day with a safe and reliable local operator. Click here to get a quote.

They can pick you up from your Singapore hotel and drop you off there again at the end of the day.

How To Travel From Singapore To Malaysia

trip singapore 1 hari

Getting from Singapore to Malaysia could really not be easier. There are buses, planes, trains and even taxis across. It’s been streamlined as much as possible because it’s such a popular option with thousands of people doing it all the time.

The easiest way to get across the causeway from Singapore to Malaysia is to hire a private car and driver. These can be quite affordable for a family or small group and you can be picked up and dropped off wherever you like and don’t need to get out of the car at the border.

Click here for more details about hiring a private driver to take you to Malaysia . This starts at just SG$90 for up to 5 people.

You can also get a local taxi but they are less flexible. If you catch a Singaporean taxi, they can only drop you at Larkin Terminal in Johor Bahru. If you catch a Malaysian taxi, they can drop you off anywhere in Malaysia but can only pick you up Queen Street Bus Terminal. They also need to be especially licensed to do this – you can’t just take any taxi.

The cheapest (and still quite easy) way to get across is with public, local bus called the Causeway Bus. Note that with the bus, you will need to get off and back on again at both immigration points in Singapore and Malaysia with all your belongings. Once you are through, you simply wait for the next Causeway Bus to come along. You can catch it from:

  • Kranji MRT (route CW1) from SGD$1.50 (RM1.90 return)
  • Queens Street (route CW2) from SGD$3.50 (RM3.40 return)
  • Newton Circus (route CW5) from SGD$3.30 (RM3.40 return)

The buses stop along the way so you can also hop on elsewhere along the route.

If you need to get between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur then I recommend flying.  This is often a very good price and cuts out the longer journey. For further afield than KL, I also recommend flying.

If you are going across to Johor Bahru, Melaka or anywhere else south of Kuala Lumpur then going overland is the best choice. We can book you a taxi from anywhere in Singapore to anywhere in pensinular Malaysia, and there are direct buses too.
