Rick MacSwain - Managing Director & Founder

Rick opened an independent travel office in the town of Beaumont, Alberta in 1987. He later merged his business with another independent agency, and they joined the UNIGLOBE Travel franchise in 1990. In 1998 Rick returned to college to continue his education, graduating from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) in 2000 with

Rick opened an independent travel office in the town of Beaumont, Alberta in 1987. He later merged his business with another independent agency, and they joined the UNIGLOBE Travel franchise in 1990. In 1998 Rick returned to college to continue his education, graduating from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) in 2000 with a diploma in Computer Systems Technology. He returned to the travel industry in 2000 as Partner – Director of Marketing & Groups with Uniglobe Geo Travel. Rick developed a group department with a strong emphasis on customized experiences and destination weddings. Rick and his team of group specialists managed several hundred groups annually and received numerous awards and accolades from the top tour operators, resorts, and airlines in Canada.  

Rick’s relationship with Uniglobe Travel ended due to the pandemic and the office closures in Alberta. When many in the industry were consolidating or closing, Rick saw an opportunity, knowing that when the pandemic ended the pent-up demand would be enormous. He started Network Travel Ltd in December of 2020 and recruited industry professionals who share the same passion and enthusiasm for creating lifestyle experiences. With a team of industry leaders Network Travel is well-positioned to be a leader in groups and customized experiences.  

In his spare time Rick enjoys time with family, friends, and golfing.

Her customer service, quick wit, and attention to detail enabled her to quickly move into a senior role and later advance into one of the top destination wedding specialists in Western Canada. With 25 years of experience in the travel industry, Michelle started her career in Edmonton with Uniglobe Geo Travel in 1999. Her customer service, quick wit, and attention to detail enabled her to quickly move into a senior role and later advance into one of the top destination wedding specialists in Western Canada. Michelle has received numerous awards such as being one of the top wedding group agents in Canada with Transat Holidays. With strong organizational skills, Michelle was instrumental in developing group processes that enabled her to heighten her service levels allowing more time spent working directly with each bride. Michelle has managed over 300 groups in the past several years with various complexities to various destinations throughout Europe, Africa, South East Asia, and North America. Ranging from customized small groups of 10 to larger groups with over 100 guests arriving from multiple cities around the world. 

Due to the pandemic, Michelle departed Uniglobe and joined the team at Network Travel in March of 2021.  

Michelle’s positive personality and enthusiastic attitude are exceptional. Her excellent customer care skills and insatiable appetite to grow, share, and learn are true assets for our team.

Gina Quintela, CTC - Group Experience Specialist

In 1987 Gina moved to Canada and started her travel career with Uniglobe Travel in Edmonton and spent the last 14 years with a large travel organization as a senior-level corporate consultant managing many of their top clients to remote destinations, group conferences, trade missions, and foreign business trips.

Gina’s positive attitude, patience, and contagious personality are second to none. Her expertise working with complicated international flights and her love of curating unique experiences make her an excellent fit and asset to our team at Network Travel. 

Gina grew up in France spending her summers in Portugal with family.  She is fluent in French, Portuguese, and English. 

Other than her love for travel, in her spare time, Gina enjoys baking, cooking, and sampling fine wines in her “She Shed”. Her friends and family rave about her amazing Portuguese desserts and Charcuterie Boards. 

Jackie Abello, CTC - Group Experience Specialist

Jackie started her career over 30 years ago with CAA Travel and American Express Travel in Ontario, Canada. During her tenure she achieved many successes and accolades. In 2008 Jackie and her family moved to Beaumont, Alberta where she joined Uniglobe Travel.

Jackie was promoted to Managing group supervisor, overseeing a team of group specialists across Western Canada. Jackie has extensive experience designing and managing complex international group itineraries and corporate travel services. Some of Jackie’s achievements include the management of corporate trade mission groups, international out-of-country conferences to Europe, and the coordination of philanthropy groups for Plan Canada. Jackie was honored to have had the privilege of co-escorting a group of 72 pilgrims to the Holy Land with his Grace, Archbishop Smith. 

Jackie's relationship with Uniglobe ended due to the pandemic and the closure of offices. Jackie joined Network Travel in early 2021 and brings extensive experience designing and managing complex international group itineraries and corporate travel services. Jackie’s exceptional human spirit, customer care, superior negotiation skills, and her keen attention to detail are just a few of the strengths she brings to the team. 

In her spare time, Jackie enjoys volunteering at her church, skiing, and of course her passion for travel and experiencing other cultures.

Jacob Kos, Operations & Group Sales

Originally from a small town in The Netherlands, Jacob moved to Canada with his family at the age of 5. Since then, he's had a passion for travel and has built up over 20 years of experience in the industry and visited over 40 countries.

Donna works directly with bridal clients to ensure our complimentary wedding invitations and dinner menus are customized and sent for professional printing. In her spare time, Donna enjoys arts and crafts, and travel. She also volunteers for disability advocacy.  

Paige MacSwain - Social Media

Paige is currently attending university with plans to enter the law program. Paige is active in the social media community and brings a fresh approach to our Social efforts. When Paige isn’t studying, she enjoys being with her friends, travelling and working out.  

Shannon Harrison CPB - Finance

Uniglobe has everything you might need for travelling. Specifically hiking or camping. Other than buying travel equipment here they also book trips. We had booked a trip through here and didn't have the best experience. The trip was good and enjoyable but dealing with the travel agent was such a hassle. She was always getting our trip details mixed up and never informed us of any flight changes that we needed to know about. The trip was to Cancun and for the flight back we were giving the wrong departure time. It was a few hours later and no one called to inform us of this. When we got to the airport and met up with people that had come to Cancun on the same flight as us they said their travel agents had called them to inform them of the time change. We never heard from ours, we were just thankful it was a later time and not earlier. I wouldn't book through them again.

For all of your travel needs, Uniglobe sells high-quality travel gear, from clothing and knapsacks, to travel soap, neck pillows and iodine tablets. They have a great line of men's clothes and I once found a cute light-weight summer dress on a clearance rack for $20. I remember looking at some of the hiking wear and thinking it was crazy expensive. While I might stop in here if I were planning a trip, I'd sooner spend my money at MEC, where you can get all of the essentials, support an environmentally kind co-op, and have your dollar stretch a bit further. Parking is around the side if you can't get street parking.

Globetrotter fashions.

This is a cute little place on the way to downtown. It's pretty close to the downtown Future Shop. If you are planning on traveling then take a look to see what they have for luggage, have might have some good deals. Or if you needed to book a trip they can help you out with that and then you can shop for some luggage or travel nick-knacks. They have some Tilley hats; which are good quality hats for people who spend a lot of time out in the sun or the rain! My brother loves his Tilley hat and has his for years. I actually believe he is looking for a place to find a new one so I need to remember to tell him about GEO! They are not cheap but they are durable and long lasting; GEO sells them for about $79. I didn't know you could also get Tilley underwear and socks and you can find them at GEO. They also had some laptop bags but nothing for backpacking. They also had some interesting nick-knacks to keep your VISA cards and money nice and dry while you go swimming or surfing. They had travel pillows and blankets for long plane or train rides. The place is cute and small and staff is pretty friendly. It's a good place to come to if you need some travel ideas or even when looking for a place to travel too.

My review and rating are based solely on the store part of Uniglobe. I've never used the travel agents. The store is quite good if you're looking for something specific for an upcoming trip, or if you just want to browse and get ideas. Guaranteed you will see something you didn't even know you needed/existed! Among items I've bought here are sleep masks, travel pillows, luggage locks, outlet converters, packing sorter things, and more. I'm in the market for a luggage scale, so I went there the other day to check some out. They had a few different brands. I looked a few up online to compare and will go back to pick up the one I want. They also carry a decent selection of luggage, but you can definitely find them cheaper elsewhere if you look around a bit. They also sell travel specific clothes like tops for different weather, shorts and pants with lots of pockets, hats, and underwear that you can wear for six weeks - ultra fast drying! - but I've never bought any. Expect cute things at the cashier desk like travel games and notebooks. More items for sale: passport covers, luggage tags, toothbrush covers, travel hair drier and hair straightener... I could go on and on. Prices for the smaller items like the ones I mentioned above seem to be comparable to other stores with this type of stuff. I've never seen more than a $1 or $2 difference between travel stores for the small stuff. There are definitely other stores in the city where you can buy travel gear, but for the small items I find this place to do the trick. The staff are generally quite friendly and helpful. The last couple of times I've been there, I've been approached and asked if I needed help, and they gladly looked around and brought me what I needed.
