We had a great time on our tour. So much I fact we signed up to do the night tour the same evening.
They were a no-show and kept the money. It's been 6 months now, and we're still waiting for the refund they owe us. They wanted payment immediately to guarantee the trolley. We paid $500. The day of the event, the trolley broke down and they called us after the event had started to say they weren't coming. They said we would get a refund the next week and here it is 6 months later and still no refund. Phone calls go to voicemail and messages go unanswered. Be sure to read the reviews on other review sites as well as the Better Business Bureau so you can see this is not unusual.
Double A Ron was such a wonderful tour guide! 5 stars, he made the tour so much fun!
Do not book this company! Day of our wedding, we were promised their fleet of trolleys with A/C. Instead we got 1 trolley with no AC and a coach bus to transport our guests. Their response time is slow and it takes you (yourself) to follow up with them on the daily. This company needs to be investigated as they charge a lot of money and deposit for services they cannot provide. In short, do not depend on this company to give you the experience you are looking for.
I was down in the Carolina Beach area visiting my grandmother, and she mentioned wanting to take this tour. She'd been on one of the horse/carriage tours, but wanted to see if this was any different. Fairly basic tour. For what it's worth, we ended up in an open trolley, though there was plastic that could be put down to cover the windows if/when it rained. It did end up raining pretty hard during our tour, actually, but none of us seemed bothered... so we left the plastic rolled up. Just something to be conscious of if you use the trolley as an excuse to get out of the rain or bad weather. All in all, this is about a 45 minute to hour long tour (at least for us, but I assume it depends on who's driving the trolley) where you just go up and down the streets located in Downtown Wilmington. You get some stories of the homes, explaining a bit about the plaques on the outside...but nothing significant, really. For $11, I was hoping for something more in depth or fascinating regarding the history of the area. TL;DR Nice to try once, I guess. My inner history-nerd wanted more though.
As a service based business one would think customer service, attention to detail and responsiveness would be keys to success. For the Wilmington Trolley Co this is definitely not the case. I wasn't able to rate this with 0 stars because if so I would have. My wife and I booked this trolley company for our wedding and I've tried to search in my mind for anything that they did even remotely adequate. What I can list off are the things they did terribly so here goes: The trolley was in awful condition - window cracked, no AC and dirty. The dispatcher forgot to add in our revised schedule so the trolley did not pick up the groomsmen and they had to Uber from Wrightsville Beach to Wilmington. Each Uber was about $60. The trolley driver was not pleasant, helpful or efficient. After they recognized the issue they called our wedding planner to fix it. We thought "this is ok because they said they would provide us a refund for the hour they missed." However, after almost a month and a half of calls and voicemails with no answer from the owner, Wes, we still have not received the refund nor a formal apology via phone or email. Overall our wedding was a wonderful day, but this has been a nightmare of an ordeal to deal with. All we wanted was to provide safe and comfortable transportation to our closest family and friends, and it is safe to say that the Wilmington Trolley Co. failed miserably. I would hesitate to book them for your wedding, tour or even a trip down the street.
I do not recommend this company to anyone and I would give it 0 stars if I could. We booked 3 trolleys for a wedding. Throughout the day, we were unable to verify if there were 3 trolleys working simultaneously. We suspect that only 2 were allocated to our group though the owner claims otherwise. We tipped them a large amount early in the day and asked them to put away the tip jars. They left the tip jars out all day. An example of unprofessional service. The trolleys were very late picking up guests from the hotel to the point that many took cars and ubers resulting in a cost to many of the guests. Another example of poor service. One of the trolleys had the door held closed by a bungee cord. Also, one of the guests slipped on the top step injuring his knee and shoulder. A couple examples of poor condition of the equipment. Only 2 trolleys picked up from the church. The wedding party was stranded for 45 minutes resulting in missing a good portion of the reception. The owner was unreachable throughout the day. He would not answer phone calls from the wedding party. We were only able to reach him when we called from one of the driver's phone. After the day, we wrote him with these concerns and he never got back to us. In conclusion, it appears we are not the only party that has had serious issues with this company. They are unprofessional, not timely, give poor customer service, use equipment in poor condition, and, in our opinion, never provided 3 trolleys simultaneously to our group. I strongly recommend finding another company to use for your party. Do not waste your time or money dealing with a poorly run business.
LITERALLY THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY--ESPECIALLY ON YOUR WEDDING DAY!!!! If I could give Wilmington Trolley negative stars I would. Unfortunately, I read negative reviews and still booked this company. That was the worst decision I made in a long time. I actually called Wilmington trolley concerned about the reviews and they told me not to worry which is why I felt the need to share my own experience so PLEASE READ THIS if you are thinking about using Wilmington Trolley Company 1. The trolley showed up FITHLY on our wedding day. I sat down in the trolley in my wedding dress and ended up having a huge line of dirt all the way down my wedding dress an hour before our wedding ceremony. 2. The trolley broke down after the ceremony. My husband, myself and the wedding party were stuck for almost an hour and we missed the whole cocktail ceremony. They kept sayin a trolley was on the way but clearly it wasn't. 3. I asked for music and air conditioning and the trolley had neither. 4. The worst part is the trolley company was unbelievably rude in the way they handled this situation. Our wedding was 6 months ago and we have yet to see any money back. I have to send 5-6 emails and call the trolley company to get a response. Wes, the owner, of Wilmington Trolley sent me a disgustingly unprofessional email when addressing my concerns. The email had a very rude tone and he basically disregarded all our concerns. I have no problem blasting this email all over the internet. Wilmington Trolley ended up saying they would pay for my dress to be cleaned. (Nothing for the large mount of money we spent). That was months ago and we still haven't seen a check. Not only did they ruin my wedding day but others who have used them! They texted my friend the day of her wedding telling her they couldn't make it! Who does that? This company is terrible and should not be in business. I am disgusted with them and hope no one ever uses this company. Especially on your wedding day. Wilmington Trolley is unreliable, rude and has no idea how to conduct a proper business. DO NOT USE THEM!!!
Was there waiting for the trolly at 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning. Their sign was out by the information center saying that the first tour departs at 10:00. He never showed up. After waiting for 30 minutes, one of the other people waiting called the business number but got a recording. We all left. Cindy and I went on the horse trolly instead, and really enjoyed that Sunday morning ride.
I am a trolley tour fan and always like the opportunity to learn about the local area wherever I may be visiting. Since Wilmington is now my home, I was excited about this tour in spite of the poor reviews. For the most part, they were right on. I am sure the guide/driver had some interesting information to share. But his delivery was muddled and I couldn't really understand his southern drawl. It was nice seeing some of historic downtown. But even the quick 45 minutes of this tour was more than enough. I probably won't be back for a repeat. Once was enough for me.

Wilmington, NC Trolley Tour
My four sisters, mother and two aunts decided to take a trolley tour during a cloudy day in Wilmington, NC. We needed an activity suitable for all of us (ages 50 to 84). The trolley seemed like a good way to get an overview of the city. The tour was to begin at 3. We boarded the bus a few minutes before three and waited until 3:15 for the tour to begin. The driver/guide had to finish a phone conversation. We were all eager to enjoy hearing about the city. When taking our $11/each for the tickets the driver made a sarcastic comment to one of the women in our group. The tour began and we all were stunned to hear the driver's speech. He sounded like Forrest Gump on quaaludes. He was disinterested and boring. The man needs a different career. All of us were very disappointed in the driver as well asd the tour. The trolley was very clean.
