To find out more

Soldeu is a small town in Andorra that is very lively in winter thanks to its ski resorts. But hitting the slopes is not the only activity offered by this picturesque place. Indeed, thanks to its geographical location, it is, among other things, the ideal place to admire grandiose landscapes.

Hikes around the lakes

If you plan to visit Andorra in summer or spring, the Juclar de Soldeu lakes are a must . They are on the route of the Pyrenean Haute Route (HRP). This route crosses the Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, passing through Spain, Andorra and France. The Estanys de Juclar are a set of two lakes located in the Incles Valley at more than 2,295 meters above sea level. This area offers a splendid panorama to the adventurers who walk there. In addition, you can stop in the refuge, it is guarded from June to September and you should meet many hikers there.

Soldeu for ski lovers

5 minutes from the village of Soldeu is the sector of El Tarter. Whether you are eager for thrills or you are on a family holiday with young children, there will be something for everyone. Indeed, the resort offers slopes for all levels as well as a circuit suitable for children. You will also find a ski school and a nursery there. In addition, if you are a fan of snowboarding , the snowpark , which is more than 1.3 km long, and all the events organised there should satisfy you.

If you want to go out at night and are looking for a festive atmosphere, then you have come to the right place. Indeed, the village has many places of night life . The Harp bar, for example, is particularly appreciated for its conviviality and its concerts . If you want to follow a sporting event or play pool , we recommend the Aspen Bar . Finally, for a warm and classy atmosphere, nothing beats the GlassBar 1850 , where you can eat while sipping a delicious cocktail.

Golf in summer

Do you dream of swinging and a breathtaking view? Come and try the highest golf course in Europe . The land is located at more than 2,250 meters above sea level and covers 16 hectares. You can get there by gondola from the village.

Hotels and Spas: comfort after exercise

Want to be pampered after a long day of hiking or skiing? Soldeu hotels have you covered! You can enjoy Turkish baths, a jacuzzi, sauna and swimming pools with massage jets .  In addition, you can also choose from a wide range of well-being treatments or get a makeover at the hairdressing salon. However, if your goal is to exercise while admiring the mountains, we can only advise you to try their fitness room and their many machines.

Fun family hike or bike ride

Looking for an activity to do with your kids ? The Cami del Gall hike that starts from the village of Canillo and ends in Soldeu will delight you. Indeed, the route is fun with many suspension bridges and easy for your children (and yourself) to enjoy to the fullest. This hike extends over a little less than 6 km with only 285 m of elevation.

If you prefer to enjoy the landscape by bike, we recommend the magnificent route of Volta al Cubil . Mountain biking with good lungs!

Soldeu | Ski Resort Review

From the Soldeu piste map to the best ski schools, ski hire shops and après ski bars, here’s your essential review of Andorra’s best all-round ski resort

Andorra's Soldeu-El Tarter ski area has long boasted the most extensive linked slopes in Andorra and it's home to a ski school rated as one of the best in the world. The village offers high-quality accommodation, excellent facilities, and a lively après scene.

Soldeu has worked hard to reinvent itself over the past few seasons to shrug off its old tag as a budget ski holiday destination for the 'young and lively' end of the market, and has now successfully established itself as Andorra's most upmarket resort, with a cosmopolitan clientele, and a popular luxury spa in the heart of the village.

Architecturally, the village is still not a looker, by any stretch. It's mostly just a strip of hotels, apartment blocks, shops and bars, stretched out along the sides of a busy through-road. Nevertheless, this is an outstanding spot for beginners and intermediates.

Nearby is the smaller centre of El Tarter, especially popular with families, it offers an excellent range of self-catering accommodation.

Soldeu is a key gateway into the vast Grandvalira ski area, which covers the linked sectors of Soldeu, El Tarter, and Canillo, combined with those of Grau Roig and Pas de la Casa, which stretch across to the eastern Andorran-French border. This huge domain ranks amongst the world's leading ski areas in respect of uplift capacity and the extent of pistes. Soldeu also plays host to top-level events, including the Alpine Skiing World Cup.

Soldeu - Ski Map & Pistes:

Soldeu's local and nearest neighbouring ski sectors are focused around spacious mid-altitude service areas and beginners' zones high above the villages, served by principal access-point gondolas. Confident novices can venture out around all the sectors on some wide blues, whilst intermediates and more advanced visitors can revel in the big mileage and will find plenty of terrain to keep themselves entertained.

The Soldeu slopes - amounting to pretty much half of the Grandvalira domain - are located on the far side of a deep ravine which runs parallel to the village, with two blue and two black pistes providing home-runs to the foot of the village via a wide, pisted suspension bridge above the river. Direct access to the ski area is provided by a gondola which departs from a large base-terminal complex in the upper end of the village.

The extent of the terrain is impressive and there's a great range of slopes to cater for all except the most demanding visitors: the centrally-located beginners' zone covers a spacious plateau directly in front of the upper terminal of the gondola. There are lots of long cruising blues and fast reds; a few black runs, including the Women's World Cup Downhill piste, Avet.

The network of lifts and pistes interlink smoothly with the neighbouring Andorra El Tarter sector, home to one of the biggest and best snowparks in the Pyrenees. The links north-east in the direction of Grau Roig for the Pas de la Casa sectors are also quite straightforward.

More than €1 billion has been invested in the overall Grandvalira area in recent years, offering improved lifts, new facilities and increased snow cannon coverage (now at 65 percent of the pistes), enhancing its reputation for snowsure skiing.

Soldeu - Off-Piste, Backcountry & Ski Touring:

Grandvalira has recognised the thirst for off-piste and ski-touring among advanced skiers and currently has six signposted circuits which have been adapted to suit all levels of technical and physical aptitude. As well as masses of un-groomed inter-piste terrain there are also numerous lift-accessible freeride zones, offering different routes and lines adapted for both intermediate freeriders and experts.

The dedicated freeride team at the Grandvalira Soldeu Ski School specialises in teaching all levels of off-piste skiing, as well as offering a guiding service if you just want to make the most of what's here.

Soldeu - Restaurants, Bars & The Town:

The fabulous Sport Wellness Spa has secured Soldeu's position as Andorra's swankiest destination: facilities include a large leisure pool, indoor and outdoor Jacuzzi, saunas, steam rooms, a well-equipped gymnasium, plus a lush range of beauty and massage treatments.

Soldeu isn't blessed with a huge array of shops, but Andorra's cosmopolitan capital is only 20km away and is easily reachable by bus or taxi for anyone craving more intense retail therapy.

A lively après ski scene has always been integral to ski holidays in Soldeu, Andorra, and although it has mellowed over the past decade or so, it still rocks. Live music and sports screenings are regular features at end-of-day gatherings in the Harp , Villager  and Aspen  bars, with plenty of the same later on in the evenings, along with theme events and dancing in late-night disco-bar venues such as Fat Albert's .

Soldeu - Ski Hire:

There are many good options for ski hire in Soldeu, including Sports Calbo  in Soldeu itself, and Nordic Esports  ski rental shop in El Tarter, two of the most established and well-located ski rental shops in the area.

Soldeu - Ski School:

Andorra has become renowned as a great place to learn to ski and snowboard and Soldeu has some fantastic English-speaking instructors. The Soldeu ski school  office can be found at the top of the Soldeu gondola, and the El Tarter ski school  office is located at the top of the El Tarter gondola.

Grandvalira Soldeu Ski Resort

Soldeu is a very popular ski resort which forms part of the extensive Grandvalira ski domain and plays host to many top-level events including the Alpine Skiing World Cup. It is a truly international resort attracting lots of British, Spanish and French tourists, and appeals to couples, families and groups alike. On the slopes Grandvalira - Soldeu offers a large selection of wide, gently sloping runs and a superb English-speaking ski school, therefore it is a great choice for beginners and aspiring intermediates. There is, however, plenty on offer for expert skiers and snowboarders who are looking for more of a challenge, with a total of 22 black runs across the Grandvalira ski area, including the FIS approved slope “Avet” where you can put your skills to test on the same run used to host the Alpine Skiing World Cup!

The Soldeu ski resort has a friendly and relaxed atmosphere with lots to offer both on and off the slopes, as well as a great variety of alternative snow activities such as mushing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling nearby. The après ski scene in Soldeu is good fun and friendly with a wide choice of bars and eateries serving up everything from traditional mountain cuisine to pizzas and tapas. The Andorran ski resorts communicates that the ski resorts will close from 14th March in view of the need to increase precaution and avoid as maximum the risk of contagion of the COVID-19 coronavirus.

The ski resorts make the decision as a measure of responsibility to finalise the season with the wish to return to normality on the best delays. The health of our clients, workers and the general population is above all other circumstances.

We would like to thank you very much all the clients that have been sharing the season with us and we hope to welcome them again soon.

About Soldeu.com

Soldeu.com was launched in March 2009 with the objective of providing quality, resort specific information about Soldeu and El Tarter that visitors can trust to plan and book their ski trips. The site was founded by Andorra ski enthusiasts Steve Hull and Emma Staples-Hull who first arrived in Andorra back in 2005. It is important to us that the information we provide is accurate, helpful and updated regularly by our expert in resort team, offering our visitors great insider information about the resorts and ski areas of Soldeu and El Tarter.

Soldeu.com was the third website created under the specialist Andorra Resorts brand. The first website Arinsal.co.uk was launched in winter 2007-08, with the second Pasdelacasa.com launched in January 2009. As the series of websites has grown, so has our team, we regularly ski every corner of the mountain, eat in the restaurants and enjoy a beverage or two in the local bars, as well as use all of the other amenities in the resort. Our Services

Our long-standing relationships with the mountain operators, ski schools and other local suppliers have allowed us to negotiate some of the best and most flexible deals for the benefit of our customers.

Partnerships have been created with Ski Calbo in Soldeu and Nordic Esports in El Tarter, to offer our customers excellent discounts on the rental of quality ski and snowboard equipment. Before setting up Soldeu.com we worked with both Sports Calbo and Nordic Esports for several seasons so are confident in the quality and service provided.

Naturally we also work very closely with Grandvalira in order to offer lift passes and group lessons, so our visitors can easily book all of their ski extras here in one place, whilst benefitting from our great money saving offers.

We offer both shared and private transfers from a number of surrounding airports and stations, plus a selection of hotel and self-catering accommodation across Andorra, so you can build your own tailor made holiday with us.

Meet the Team

We are a small team of Soldeu experts, who take great pride in sharing our knowledge of the resort and helping our visitors book the perfect trip.

After growing up in Yorkshire and graduating with a degree in tourism management, Steve has gained 15 years of experience in the travel industry, working throughout Europe as well as in North America. Steve first worked in Andorra in 2005 and after working here as a manager for tour operators for three winters, founded Andorra Resorts in 2008 putting together his knowledge of computers with experience of the mountains. Having skied for over 20 years, Steve loves getting on the slopes, and spending many winters in Andorra means he has a great knowledge of the country to pass on through the series of websites.

Originally from South Wales, Emma has worked in the travel industry for 13 years, travelling extensively whilst working in Europe, Africa and South America for a well-known tour operator. Prior to setting up Andorra Resorts with Steve, Emma worked as Country Manager in Andorra for an online ski specialist, her in-depth experience within the industry, particularly within Andorra brings a wealth of knowledge to Andorra Resorts. Emma is a fluent Spanish speaker and is passionate about all things travel, sport and fitness related, it goes without saying that she is a keen skier!

After working in the hospitality industry from a young age, Ella went on to work for a tour operator throughout her time at university, where she studied Broadcast Journalism with a focus on travel writing and video editing. She has embarked on multiple solo trips, spending time in South East Asia, Canada and a multitude of destinations across Europe. Ella has skied since she was 4, so hitting the slopes naturally feels like a second home; it seemed only right to combine her love of the travel industry with her love for being on the snow! Aside from skiing, Ella loves meeting new people, adventures in the great outdoors, going to the gym and watching documentaries.

Jeni was born is Essex but has spent most of her adult life living and travelling abroad. She only discovered mountain life just three winter seasons ago, here in Andorra. Now based in Arinsal, she absolutely loves the resort and is always keen to share her local knowledge. She adores the pretty village and this has been the perfect place for her to learn to snowboard. She knows the area, both the slopes and the village, like the back of her hand, and is more than happy to share advice with anyone visiting. Since leaving school, she has always worked in the travel and tourism industry, and her passion is making your trip really special. It also helps that Jeni truly adores Andorra and enjoys exploring the mountains, the epic scenery and everything else it had to offer.

Hailing from North Devon, Ian has over 15 years experience in the hospitality industry, with the majority of the last 10 years spent working overseas for the world’s largest tour operator. Having worked in diverse destinations such as France, Spain, Egypt and the U.A.E Ian’s passion comes from the enjoyment of delivering unforgettable experiences. Ian first worked in Andorra in 2007 and since then has spent 5 winter seasons living and working in here. An advocate of the country and local people he wants to take his knowledge of the county and it’s ski areas and allow as many people as possible to enjoy it as he has.

we have got quotes from Andorra travel service for lift passes and transfers. Has anyone used them before? they don't have a website and are asking for credit card details by phone. Just wanted to make sure they are bona fide. I originally had gemma who is mentioned in a 2010 post but now its Kathy.

Search the forums for them and you'll probably find some endorsements

We used ATS to book our lift passes last March and got lunch on the mountain each dsy included for free. No problems.

I have used Andorra Travel Service for the last 5 years, without any problems, both Kathy and Gemma work there.

Just back today from a week in Soldeu, where our lift passes were provided by ATS at face value BUT again our lunches on the mountain were included in the price. Highly recommended.
