Forecast days

Seven day forecast for tours.

Our weather symbols tell you the weather conditions for any given hour in the day or night. This means that the symbol for 9am shows you what you will see from 9am to 10am.

Chance of precipitation represents how likely it is that rain (or other types of precipitation, such as sleet, snow, hail or drizzle) will fall from the sky at a certain time.

This number shows the air temperature for the time period. You can see the temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit by using the dropdown menu.

Feels like temperature considers other factors, such as wind speed and humidity. This gives you a better idea of how the temperature will actually feel at the time.

Wind gust shows the highest wind speed that you should encounter at that time, as winds peak and lull.

Strong winds are shown in bold for speeds of 29 mph or more.

The arrow shows the direction the wind is blowing. The letters show the direction the wind is blowing from (on a standard 16-point compass).

The number represents the average wind speed expected at that time.

The arrow shows the direction of the wind (up is north). If the arrow points from land to sea, the wind will be blowing out to sea (‘offshore’). The number is the average wind speed.

Beware of offshore winds if you are using inflatables, paddle boards or kayaks. These winds can blow you out to sea. Read more about how wind will affect you at the beach.

Visibility measures the distance at which an object can be clearly seen.

Humidity is the amount of water vapor in the air. If there is a lot of water vapour, the humidity will be high. The higher the percentage of humidity, the wetter it will feel outside.

UV exposure index and the protection required to help keep you safe:

- No risk of UV - It’s safe to stay outside. 1-2 Low - You can safely stay outside. Consider sunscreen in direct sunlight. 3-5 Moderate - Take care during midday hours and do not spend too much time in the sun unprotected. Sunscreen advised. 6-7 High - Seek shade during midday hours, cover up and wear sunscreen. 8-10 Very high - Spend time in the shade between 11am and 3pm. Shirt, sunscreen and hat are essential. 11 Extreme - Avoid being outside during midday hours. Shirt, sunscreen and hat essential.

This is the average height of the waves, 1-2 miles out to sea. The height of the waves can vary. The individual waves out to sea or at the beach can be higher than this number. If you are close to the water, keep an eye on the waves to stop you or your belongings being swept away.

Read more about calculating the expected height of the waves at the beach.

This is the average number of seconds between one wave and the next, 1-2 miles out to sea. A long wave period (more than 10 seconds) means the waves at the beach may be more powerful. Lifeguards can give you advice on waves if you’re planning to go into the water.

Read more about the period of waves.

The arrow shows the average direction of the waves 1-2 miles out to sea. It indicates how sheltered the beach will be from these waves. If the arrow points towards land, most of the waves’ power will reach the beach. If the arrow is parallel to or pointing away from land, the wave height is likely to be lower on the beach than it is offshore.

Lifeguards can give you advice on waves if you’re planning to go into the water.

Watching the Tour de France 2021 in person: Route and rules

The fourth stage from redon to fougères in brittany is now underway. here's what you need to know if you plan to watch the race pass through your town this year.

Cyclists at the Tour de France 2021

The Tour de France 2021 is underway after riders departed from Brest in Brittany - instead of the previously-planned Copenhagen, Denmark – on Saturday 26 June.

The 108th in the race’s history, the route will cover a total length of 3,383 kilometres, arriving in Paris on 18 July. It will pass through Châteauroux, Indre and over the Alps before moving south to Nîmes in the Gard. Then it will traverse the Pyrenees and Andorra, heading back up to Bordeaux before finishing in the capital.

Due to Covid-19, this year's race is keeping within France for the entire route, except for a short hop into Andorra. There will be no stages in Spain, Italy, or Switzerland; and the Denmark departure has been postponed until at least 2022.

Where are the stages of the Tour de France 2021?

🤩 Here is the official #TDF2021 route! 🤩 Voici le parcours officiel du #TDF2021 ! pic.twitter.com/MEoDFc2ph2 — Tour de France™ (@LeTour) November 1, 2020

The first four stages are taking place in Brittany, including the Mûr-de-Bretagne section, which has already been part of the Tour de France route three times in 10 years (2011, 2015, and 2018).

This year, viewers have had to wait longer before the riders reached the more mountainous areas after the 2020 route was criticised by some as having too much elevation

The Alps will welcome just two stages in 2021. These will include the Colombière pass, and the stage between Cluses and Tignes.

There will be four stages in the Pyrenees, including the climbs of Tourmalet, Peyresourde, Portet, as well as those in Andorra.

For the first time in Tour de France history, riders will be required to climb the infamous Mount Ventoux slope twice, before ending the stage in the foothills, at Malaucène, on July 7.

Here are the stages of the Tour de France 2021 in full

Stage One (June 26) : Brest to Landerneau

Stage Two (June 27): Perros-Guirec to Mûr-de-Bretagne Guerlédan

Stage Three (June 28): Lorient to Pontivy

Stage Four (June 29): Redon to Fougères

Stage Five (June 30): Changé to Laval Espace Mayenne

Stage Six (July 1): Tours to Châteauroux

Stage Seven (July 2): Vierzon to Le Creusot

Stage Eight (July 3): Oyonnax to Le Grand-Bornand

Stage Nine (July 4): Clueses to Tignes

REST (July 5): Tignes

Stage Ten (July 6) : Albertville to Valence

Stage Eleven (July 7): Sorgues to Malaucène

Stage Twelve (July 8): Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux to Nîmes

Stage Thirteen (July 9): Nîmes to Carcassonne

Stage Fourteen (July 10): Carcassonne to Quillan

Stage Fifteen (July 11): Céret to Andorre-La-Vielle

REST (July 12): Andorre

Stage Sixteen (July 13): Pas de la Case to Saint-Gaudens

Stage Seventeen (July 14): Muret to Saint-Lary-Soulan Col du Portet

Stage Eighteen (July 15): Pau to Luz Ardiden

Stage Nineteen (July 16): Mourenx to Libourne

Stage Twenty (July 17): Libourne to Saint-Emilion

Stage Twenty One (July 18): Chatou to Paris Champs-Élysées

Time trials

There will also be two timed stages in 2021, in contrast to the single-stage held in 2020. The first will be between Changé and Laval; the second between Libourne and Saint-Emilion, the day before the final stage to Paris.

What are the rules for watching Tour De France 2021 in person?

Much like the 2020 race , there are a number of protocols in place for watching the Tour de France this year.

Up until June 29, to access the fan park and watch the start and finish of races you must have a 'pass sanitaire' that shows evidence of having had your Covid vaccination (both doses unless the Janssen one-shot vaccine), or a negative PCR test or antigen test within the past 48 hours, or a positive PCR test result from more than 15 days ago but less than five months old.

The health pass requirement is subject to change after June 30, said race director Christian Prudhomme in an interview with Europe1 . It is not known if it will be needed at the finish line in Paris yet.

Read more: French health pass launches today: How and when to use it

At other stages, you do not need a health pass to watch the race.

Social distancing measures and wearing a mask are also recommended.

Spectators are also asked to keep a 2-metre distance from riders at all times, while autographs and selfies are not allowed.

There will be a strong police presence across the stages of the race who will be able to enforce social distancing and will also ensure a protective bubble around cyclists.

The police presence will be especially significant following the recent crash caused by a woman holding a sign in the pathway of the riders during the first stage at Landernau on June 26.

BBC presenter taking on London Marathon for charity

The BBC's Amber Sandhu is set to run the London Marathon in aid of Wolverhampton Wanderers charity, the Wolves Foundation.

The Asian Network presenter became an ambassador for the organisation in December.

The 26-year-old, from Tettenhall, said she had been a "bag of nerves" a week ago but was now excited to get to Sunday's start line.

While her friends and family will support her, Ms Sandhu said what would also drive her to the finish line was the promise of a pizza.

"I’ll be honest, the thought of pizza at the end will be keeping me going,” she said.

“I have a reservation already booked after the race, and that will help me through the tough times."

Ms Sandhu set herself the target of raising £1,000 for the foundation but had already passed her objective with days to spare.

She was talked into taking part in the marathon by a BBC colleague, "work bestie" Megan Jones, after the pair were in London watching last year's marathon.

"It was down to Megan that we both applied, but given there are so many thousands who try and take part I never thought that Amber from Wolverhampton would get a space.

“As it was, I was successful and unfortunately Megan wasn’t, although I think she is slightly relieved, now she has seen how much training I have had to do."

Ms Sandhu started running during the Covid lockdowns and worked up to 10km distances but is aware Sunday's event would be quite a step up.

"If you had spoken to me last week, I was a bag of nerves and anxious about not wanting to let anyone down," Ms Sandhu said.

“But I woke up on Monday morning with a real sense of excitement – it’s such a great opportunity that I want to make the very most of it."

Taylor Swift's new album is here — actually, make that two albums. Here's how the internet reacted

Three composite photos of pop singer taylor swift

It all started with a surprise announcement during her 13th Grammy's win (yes, that number means something in the Swiftie-verse), and now it's finally here.

The Tortured Poet's Department (TTPD), Taylor Swift's 11th studio album, is out.

Swift herself dropped a poetic statement on her Instagram when the album was released on Friday 2pm AEST, written in the third person like an autopsy report.

She wrote, "this period of the author’s life is now over, the chapter closed and boarded up".

And went on to summarise the new album in one line:

"Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it."

So… how are we all feeling?

In a word… 'ouch'

This album is a melancholy emotional journey that Swift's fans are very happy to join her on… as depressing as it may be.

It's giving heartbreak, it's giving sad, it's giving… psych ward chic?

And recovery time for fans will not be quick, judging by their dramatic reactions so far.

This appears to be a break-up album about more than one person

Rumours that this would be a break-up album appear to be true, but it's not just about Joe Alwyn, her ex-boyfriend of six years.

Swift's short-term romance with Matty Healy, lead singer of the 1975, is also seemingly referenced.

The raw emotion in Swift's lyrics is one of the reasons her fans keep coming back for more… and TTPD seems to be delivering some of the deepest cuts.

What we really want to know is, who is the "tattooed golden retriever" she sings about in the title track?

We probably already know.

Jack Antonoff is back

Swift's long-time collaborator, Jack Antonoff , is back on deck as a producer on TTPD and he, and the internet, are happy about it.

There's no doubt where those synth references have come from.

Who features on the new album?

While we already found out in February who would be featuring on TTPD, fans are very excited after actually listening to Swift's collaborations with Post Malone on the lead single Fortnight, and Florence + the Machine on Florida!!!

Surprisingly, pop singer Charlie Puth gets a shout-out in the titular track, and so does "Lucy" — who the internet believes to be indie music darling (and boygenius member ) Lucy Dacus.

And surprise! It's a double album

You read that right, there's two.

Fans were wondering why a second countdown had appeared on Swift's Instagram page, and why the reference to the number two had continued to pop up via her signature Easter eggs in the lead up to the album's release.

Of course, in poetic fashion, two hours after TTPD's release Swift announced that it is, in fact, a double album, titled The Tortured Poet's Department: The Anthology.

Fans — still processing the first 16 tracks and undeniably overwhelmed — lost their minds.

The surprise announcement certainly shut down the early leak rumours, pardon the pun, quite swiftly.

What's next and can we handle much more?

If Midnights was a break-up album, the internet's reactions signal that TTPD is the post-mortem — dissecting thoroughly what went wrong and why.

What's next? Well, the Fortnight music video will drop for Australian fans Saturday 10am AEST.

And the music video's preview clip is already giving a very Poor Things/Charles Dickens vibe.

Fun fact: Swift's friend and Poor Things actor, Emma Stone, has been listed as a collaborator on the TTPD credits.

It's safe to say that if you blocked out tonight to listen to the album, you now may need to cancel your weekend plans to cover those 15 extra tracks.

The BBC announced that McGovern, a familiar voice to listeners of the show as she covered for Barnett during her maternity leave, will present the popular programme from Monday to Wednesday each week from May 13.

Meanwhile, broadcaster Anita Rani will take over the reins on Thursday and will continue to host her current Friday and Saturday editions.

Barnett hosted her last Woman's Hour show last week following a more than three-year stint at the helm of the programme, devoted to female topics .

She will join the radio station's Today programme in May after Irish journalist Martha Kearney revealed this year that she will be leaving Radio 4's flagship current affairs show .

During her stint helming Woman's Hour last year, McGovern hosted the live reveal of the Woman's Hour Power List which included interviewing England captain Leah Williamson, who topped the list.

In her 20-year career, McGovern has reported for BBC from more than 30 countries

She also spoke to a host of high-profile women including education activist Malala Yousafzai, actresses Laura Dern and Rosamund Pike, singer Arlo Parks and Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Dame Lynne Owens.

In her 20-year career, McGovern has worked across the BBC and is one of the leading presenters on the BBC World Service.

She has reported for the broadcaster from more than 30 countries and at many important events including at both the funeral of the late Queen and the coronation of the King.

McGovern said being chosen as the next presenter of Woman's Hour 'fills me with joy'.

She added: 'It is a real privilege to present this extraordinary programme. I'm looking forward to working with the superb Woman's Hour team on the rigorous journalism expected on women's issues but also making time for escapism and fun.

'I'm especially looking forward to getting back to the Woman's Hour listeners, I have missed them.'

Countryfile star Rani said she was 'thrilled' that McGovern was joining the Woman's Hour team as she hailed her as a 'brilliant broadcaster'.

'Like our listeners, I love hearing Nuala when I'm not presenting. What a tag team we will be - time to take Woman's Hour to the next level', she added.

Rani, who has presented on a number of shows, documentaries and radio stations for the BBC , joined the Woman's Hour team in 2021 to present the Friday and Saturday editions.

The editor of Woman's Hour, Karen Dalziel, said: 'I'm delighted that Nuala McGovern is joining Woman's Hour.

'She's an exceptional journalist who brings an astonishing range of broadcasting experience to this role.

'Nuala has a deep curiosity about the issues that matter to women, and the intellect and warmth to bring them to life for our listeners.

'Paired with the skill and effervescence of Anita Rani our audience are in for a real treat six days a week.'

McGovern is an Irish publican's daughter and was brought up in Drumcondra, a suburb in Dublin.

Her father owned the Goblet pub in Artane, which is now run by her two brothers and sister-in-law.  Meanwhile, her uncle owned McGovern's pub in Drumcondra, which later became Quinn's pub.

In the 1980s, she got a job as a researcher and producer on an Irish community radio programme, the Adrian Flanelly Show. She later joined the Brian Lehrer Show which is broadcast on WNYC, New York's public radio station.

She met her husband Tristan Agates, who was a banker and now a gardener at Kew Gardens, while she was in the Big Apple.

McGovern later relocated to London , where she got a job with the BBC World Service and began a career of global reporting.

A stand-out moment was when she was one of the few journalists to be invited to visit Guantanamo Bay in Cuba , which houses ISIS and Al Qaeda terrorists.

Nuala also got to visit eastern Ukraine shortly after the annexation of Crimea in 2014.

Record Store Day 2024 – the full list, plus five essential albums to pick up

Fleetwood Mac, Black Sabbath, and more

Someone taking a vinyl record out of the sleeve

Our top picks

  • The full list

Record Store Day 2024 is one the most anticipated events for any music fan, and there’s no doubt that eager vinyl record collectors have been preparing for this day since the full Record Store Day list was dropped in February.

records

Record Store Day dates back to 2007, when a small team of US indie record store owners got together to give vinyl a then much-needed injection of publicity. Now a global annual event, 'RSD' sees a range of special edition record pressings go on sale at record stores – though this year a Discogs partnership will also let you buy some of the vinyl online after the event. Want the full list of this year's special edition releases? Head to the Record Store Day website or go to the full list at the end of this page. But only once you've checked out our pick of the highlights...

The event takes place on Saturday April 20 and will see music fans around the world flocking to their local record shops to score exclusive pressings and region-specific LPs. And with Discogs’ partnership with Record Store Day , you’ll have two chances to partake in this year’s event.

Despite the queen of vinyl variants, Taylor Swift, not making an appearance in this year’s list, there’s a plethora of other albums, soundtracks, and live recordings that will be available as limited editions. But a word of caution; most record stores work on a first come first serve basis, so it’s wise to check your local store’s opening times and plan to queue accordingly.

To celebrate one of the most exciting days in music, I’ve compiled a list of five albums from this year’s Record Store Day list that are essential for any music lover’s library. Not only are these albums great from beginning to end, but they’ve each had a significant impact on fans and culture alike...

Rumours, Fleetwood Mac (1977)

Fleetwood Mac Rumours picture disc for record store day

  • Format: LP Picture Disc / 7,500 copies

Rumours was the second album I bought on vinyl after Lorde’s Pure Heroine, not because I was a huge Fleetwood Mac fan at the time, but because it’s an album I knew was quintessential to any collection.

This album was conceived at a time when the band’s members couldn’t bear to be in the same room as each other. Love complications between Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham served as one of the driving forces behind the album’s brutally honest lyricism in songs like Dreams and Second Hand News , alongside John and Christine McVie's divorce.

Its raw emotion is the reason why it’s still loved by music fans nearly 50 years after its release, and at Record Store Day 2024, it’s being released once again but in picture disc format.

Live at SoFi Stadium, The Weeknd (2023)

A Record Store Day 2024 pressing on Live at SoFi Stadium by The Weeknd (2023)

  • Format: 3 x LPs / 7,500 copies

Dawn FM was one of the most memorable albums of 2022, but it was The Weeknd’s sold-out After Hours til Dawn stadium tour that showed his powerhouse status.

Live albums can be hit or miss, depending on how the artist plays around with the arrangement of their studio songs – but Live at SoFi Stadium is a live album I find myself reverting back to now and then. Not only is the setlist packed with catchy oldies like The Hills and Wicked Games , but its songs like Sacrifice that show how hard a song can hit when played live. That’s all down to its responsive bass and elongated intro that perfectly builds suspension before the beat drops.

Paranoid, Black Sabbath (1970)

The Record Store Day 2024 pressing of Black Sabbath's Paranoid

  • Format: LP / 4,000 copies

The oldest entry in our list comes from Black Sabbath and their second studio album Paranoid , which is regarded as one of the most influential albums in heavy metal. And it’s back for Record Store Day 2024, over 50 years since its release on a vibrant pink splatter vinyl.

Much like Rumours , Black Sabbath’s Paranoid has cemented itself as a vinyl record staple but for its own reasons – one being that it set the gold standard for the heavy metal genre. It houses several of Black Sabbath’s most credited singles from the title track, to Iron Man and War Pigs , which still make for great additions to blockbuster movie soundtracks.

Tough Love, Jessie Ware (2014)

Jessie Ware Tough Love white Record Store Day pressing

While I lean more towards Ware’s neo-disco and funk records What’s Your Pleasure? (2020) and That! Feels Good (2023), those albums would not exist if it weren’t for her early work.

The production on Tough Love is very early-to-mid 2010s coded, but the subtlety of funky bass guitars and string accompaniments hint at the direction Jessie Ware has been headed all this time. For Record Store Day 2024, Ware brings you the 10th anniversary edition of the album, featuring 2 LPs pressed on solid white vinyl with bonus tracks.

Cracker Island, Gorillaz (2023)

Gorillaz Cracker Island pink Record Store Day pressing

  • Format: 2 x LP / 8,500 copies

2023 didn’t live up to the albums that 2022 gave us, but Gorillaz’s eighth studio album Cracker Island was one of my saving graces that year – after Lana Del Rey and Caroline Polacheck, of course.

Cracker Island is very much an ‘LA-themed’ album, with topics such as technology, influencer culture, and the internet building the foundation of the album’s message. But it’s the album’s features that make it a stand-out record, one that invites the musical influences of funkier artists like Thundercat and Tame Impala, not to forget the legendary Stevie Nicks on one of my favorite songs, Oil.

The deluxe edition of Cracker Island is out this Record Store Day, with six additional tracks and alternative cover art pressed on pink and magenta vinyl.
