New Zealand’s Highwaymen Dennis Marsh, Gray Bartlett, Eddie Low and Brendan Dugan are on the road (again) to the Waikato as part of a special nationwide tour.

The legends of Kiwi country music are set to play 20 shows together throughout May and June, including shows in Hamilton, Putāruru and Taupō.

The programme will transport fans back in time, as the Highwaymen belt out their own biggest hits while also putting their own unique spin on classics from international icons like George Jones, Kenny Rogers and original Highwayman Johnny Cash.

Bartlett, 80, says he and his fellow Highwaymen couldn’t wait to catch up with fans all over New Zealand.

“For me, it will have been many years, in some cases, since I last performed in your town or city. .. Playing in the USA and other places is great, but there is nothing like playing for our Heartland Kiwis,” Bartlett says.

Although the NZ Highwaymen are known individually in their own right and have toured the country many times in various groups, this is the first and likely the last time that all four of these legendary New Zealand artists will hit the road together.

The tour kicks off in Tauranga on May 18, then travels throughout the North Island, before finishing in the South Island in Nelson on June 17. The southern leg of the tour will also take New Zealand’s Highwaymen to the old home of the That’s Country TV show, when they play at Christchurch’s The James Hay Theatre.

Te Kuiti-born Marsh, 72, has been performing country music since the mid-1980s.

Low, 79, from Rotorua, has been singing since his early teenage years and rose to fame with the Māori Quin Tikis in 1966.

Bartlett, from Auckland, has been involved in the music scene since 1961. His work has taken him around the world performing in Japan, Australia, the US and England, amongst others.

Dugan, 71, from Christchurch, began his music career in 1968, when he appeared on the television show New Faces and won a talent contest. Like Bartlett, he, too, went on to perform overseas.

The original Highwaymen were an American country music supergroup made up of Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson that was active between 1985 and 1995.

Kiwi singing legends kick off tour in the Bay

Local country music legend Brendan Dugan admits the upcoming nationwide tour as part of the NZ Highwaymen may well be his last. 'I've always said: ‘If my voice goes, I'll stop performing',” says Brendan. 'My voice has changed over the years but luckily for me, it's developed more emotion behind it. 'I have less power behind it but it's more gravelly and perfect for the smaller, more intimate venues we're playing.” Brendan, along with fellow musicians Dennis Marsh, Gray Bartlett and Eddie Low, will tour the country beginning at Holy Trinity Tauranga on May 18. Between them, they've recorded more than 100 albums, many of which went Gold and Platinum. 'Gray and I have been working together off and on for almost 60 years. Eddie has a beautiful voice and Dennis and I have been working together for about eight years. 'We're great friends so when we came up with the idea to perform together it was perfect,” says Brendan. 'We've all had our health issues and touring is hard at our age. You've gotta pace yourself, but the minute you're on-stage it's all forgotten and we're 21 again.” The NZ Highwaymen will travel in May and Kiwi singing legends kick off tour in the Bay June, playing 19 shows throughout New Zealand. They'll each belt out their biggest hits, plus put their own spin on classics from country icons such as Johnny Cash, George Jones, and Kenny Rogers. 'It's very interactive so we'll also be chatting during the show; ‘Hey Gray, remember when...' kind of stories about our career. We like to get up close and be able to see our audience,” says Brendan. 'Country music fans are very loyal. They've been with us all this time and we appreciate that.” The NZ Highwaymen are known individually in their own right and have toured the country many times in various groups, including the sellout ‘Highway of Legends' tours. This is the first and likely the last time all four of these legendary NZ artists will hit the road together.

Kiwi country legends Jodi and Brendan reunite

Profile picture of Rebekah Hebenton

When the Weekly catches up with Kiwi country legends Jodi Vaughan and Brendan Dugan, they are brimming with excitement. Their first duet in 40 years has hit the top of the local album charts and they are eagerly counting down the days to their anniversary tour.

It’s a special milestone for the pair who formed an unbreakable bond after performing side by side for more than half of their lives.

“We’re family,” confesses Jodi. “All of my children are in Australia, so I rely on Brendan and his lovely wife Sandy. Whenever I need to chat, he’s the person I call.”

brendan dugan tour

Jodi and Brendan have the repartee of a married couple. They exchange witty jibes and Jodi cheekily rolls her eyes when she thinks Brendan has been talking too long without letting her get a word in. But it’s obvious they have a deep respect for one another, with Brendan very protective of Jodi.

“We’re like brother and sister,” tells 70-year-old Brendan. “She needs an older brother to take care of her.”

The dynamic duo rose to fame in the early ’80s on variety show That’s Country . It was the height of New Zealand’s love for country music and every week, Jodi and Brendan would perform alongside other legends of the genre including Ray Columbus and Suzanne Lynch. While Brendan was an old hand in the music world at that point – he released his first album at 16 – it was a whirlwind for Jodi.

She’d only been in Aotearoa a few years after moving from Australia with her first husband. She entered The Entertainers talent competition and made it to the finals, where Brendan and his musical partner Gray Bartlett spotted her. They knew she would be the perfect addition to their group.

“We weren’t looking for anyone, but we needed someone bubbly and she was exactly that,” tells Brendan.

Jodi adds, “Fate stepped in and brought them to me.”

It was the start of a magical partnership, and when Jodi and Brendan released their duet album Fairweather Friends in 1982, it raced up the charts and even landed the pair on the cover of the Weekly . Jodi says she still remembers the feeling of seeing the magazine on stands for the first time.

brendan dugan tour

“It was amazing! To make the Woman’s Weekly is something to be proud of,” she enthuses. “I remember being scared that they weren’t going to pick a good photo. But I was rapt.”

It was particularly gratifying for Jodi, who still remembers the comment made by a talent show judge as a teen pursuing a career in music. “One of the women said to me, ‘Jodi, you have a lovely wee voice, but you’re far too short for the cameras, so you won’t ever make it in showbiz.'”

brendan dugan tour

“To make the cover of the Weekly is something to be proud of,” says Jodi.

Jodi and Brendan spent years travelling up and down the country, playing to adoring crowds in venues big and small. They even had the opportunity to travel to Nashville and perform in the home of country music, a memory they both cherish.

By the early 2000s, Jodi grew tired of life on the road and opted for some stability. So, while Jodi found herself an office job, Brendan embarked on a solo career.

Jodi and Brendan’s loyal fans were delighted earlier this year when they reunited to release I’ll Be There for You. The tune has special meaning for them because Jodi wrote it as a tribute to Brendan after the death of his father in 2020.

“Brendan is always the one we go to when we have any kind of problem,” Jodi shares. “He always says something stupid and makes us laugh. So, when he called to say his father had died, I said, ‘Even the strong need a shoulder to lean on.’ And I thought, ‘That’s a song.'”

When asked what he thought of the song, Brendan looks sheepish, before saying, “I wish you wouldn’t have asked me that.

brendan dugan tour

“I’m very unusual with music. If I like a song straight up, it’s not going to stay with me very long. I wasn’t a big fan of the song to start with, but then it grew on me very quickly. Now, I think it’s one of those songs that will still be around in 30 years. Even if we won’t be.”

As they embark on their victory lap tour, Jodi and Brendan are delighted that after all these years, they still get to do what they love most with their best friend at their side.

“After 40 years, people still come out and see us, and that is amazing,” smiles Jodi. “We’re very lucky people remember us and still love us.”

Video release: ‘I’ll Be There for You’ by Jodi Vaughan and Brendan Dugan

brendan dugan tour

It has been forty years since Jodi Vaughan and Brendan Dugan released the album Fairweather Friends , which went platinum in New Zealand. The pair became known to NZ audiences over eight years as part of TVNZ’s That Country . Often singing together as a duet, they also appeared in Royal Variety performances and in sellout tours across New Zealand as well as tours in the US.

‘I’ll Be There for You’ is the first song they have released as a duet since Fairweather Friends. It is a testament to the power of friendship and connection, and a reminder that even the strong need someone to lean on sometimes – a message that surely many of us need at this point in history, and one that Vaughan and Dugan deliver with power and emotion. It appears on Vaughan’s 2022 album For the Love of Country , which went to number 1 in its opening week on the official NZ Album Charts in May and number 1 on the IMNZ Chart, 40 years to the week of Fairweather Friends taking its highest chart position.

The video for ‘I’ll Be There for You’ is having its premiere today, and shows the pair together now as well as glimpses from their past – visually representing the message of the song, and showing that this musical pair still bring out the best in each other. You can watch the video below.

Go beneath the streets on this tour of the spectacular, mind-bending Moscow Metro! Be awed by architecture and spot the Propaganda , then hear soviet stories from a local in the know. Finish it all up above ground, looking up to Stalins skyscrapers, and get the inside scoop on whats gone on behind those walls.

Know More about this tour

We begin our Moscow tour beneath the city, exploring the underground palace of the Moscow Metro. From the Square of Revolution station, famous for its huge statues of soviet people (an armed soldier, a farmer with a rooster, a warrior, and more), we’ll move onto some of the most significant stations, where impressive mosaics, columns, and chandeliers will boggle your eyes! Moreover, these stations reveal a big part of soviet reality — the walls depict plenty of Propaganda , with party leaders looking down from images on the walls. Your local guide will share personal stories of his/her family from USSR times, giving you insight into Russia’s complicated past and present. Then we’re coming back up to street level, where we’ll take a break and refuel with some Russian fast food: traditional pancakes, called bliny. And then, stomachs satiated, we are ready to move forward! We’ll take the eco-friendly electric trolleybus, with a route along the Moscow Garden Ring. Used mainly by Russian babushkas(grannies) during the day, the trolleybus hits peak hours in the mornings and evenings, when many locals use it going to and from their days. Our first stop will be the Aviator’s House, one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and you’ll hear the legends of what has gone on inside the walls. Throughout your Moscow tour, you’ll learn curious facts from soviet history while seeing how Russia exists now, 25 years after the USSR.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
  • The interval in the movement of trains in rush hour is  90 seconds .

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

ADELAIDE, Australia — Three-time PGA Tour winner Brendan Steele shot an 8-under 64 Saturday to take a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the LIV Tour's Adelaide tournament at The Grange Golf Club.

The 41-year-old Steele's last PGA Tour victory came in 2017 when he won his second Safeway Open. He lost in a playoff to Australian Cameron Smith at the 2020 Sony Open in Hawaii.

Steele had a 36-hole total of 14-under 130. He had a streak of four birdies, a bogey and two birdies in the middle of his round.

Danny Lee was a stroke behind after a 67, followed by Carlos Ortiz (68) and Mito Pereira (67) in a tie for third.

First-round leader Jinichiro Kozuma shot 71 and was tied for ninth, four strokes behind Steele. The Japanese player had an eagle, three birdies and four bogeys.

Jon Rahm, who has yet to win since joining LIV in December, shot 69 and was tied for 15th, six strokes off the lead.

Steele predicted a 20-under total would be needed to win after Sunday’s final round.

“There’s good scores out there for sure,” he said. “If you’re in the fairway, then you can take on a lot of the pins.”

Smith shot 65 and was among those three behind in a four-way tie for fifth.

Enjoying the home crowd's support, Smith said he was grateful for the lady his errant shot hit on the 17th hole. The shot rebounded kindly off the woman and Smith ended up with a birdie on the hole.

“I hit her in the back,” Smith said. “It probably wasn’t going to be in the trees, but it was going to be in the rough and a different lie, so it could have been a different outcome. But (I) made her proud and made a birdie there, and she helped me out — hopefully that eased the pain a little bit for her.”

A new friendship ensued.

“She was nice," Smith said. "I went over there and I signed a ball, and she said ‘just give me a hug’, so I gave her a hug as well. She was sweet.”

There was also drama in another Australian's round with Lucas Herbert's caddie, Nick Pugh, hit in the head by a water bottle thrown from the crowd while replacing the flagstick at the 12th hole.

Herbert had just holed a birdie putt to finish his round in the shotgun format and was celebrating with fans at the par-3, known as the ‘watering hole’ with its loud music and boisterous fans, when Pugh was hit in the back of the head.

Pugh initially sunk to his knees but made his way back to the clubhouse and was reportedly uninjured and in good spirits.

The LIV tour remains in the Asia region next week for the May 3-5 Singapore event at the Sentosa Golf Club. Then there's a month-long break before resuming in Houston from June 7-9.

Diddy's assistant brendan paul charged with felony drug possession, brendan paul diddy's assistant charged with drug felony.

Diddy 's associate, Brendan Paul , has just been charged with one felony count of drug possession, and it could spell trouble for the rap mogul.

Paul, a former Syracuse men's basketball player who worked as Diddy's main assistant, was arrested in March at the Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport after feds searched his bag and allegedly found cocaine and marijuana candy. He was arrested and taken into custody, at the same time the feds were raiding Diddy's Miami and L.A. mansions .

The 25-year-old, who was extremely close to Diddy and was privy to Diddy's comings and goings, pled not guilty. His lawyer, Brian Bieber , tells TMZ, "We will be dealing with this case in the courtroom, not the court of public opinion."

As we have extensively reported, Diddy is in the crosshairs of the feds. He's being investigated for sex trafficking, illegal gun possession and other alleged crimes.

The wild card now is Brendan Paul. The feds are clearly not eyeing this as a major crime, but they're now in a position to offer Paul a deal ... possibly dropping or reducing the charges in return for cooperation in the Diddy case.

Stay tuned ...
