Do you need a lanyard for a Disney Cruise?

You don’t need one, but they definitely come in handy. Having a lanyard allows you to keep your Key to the World card, plus maybe some additional money in its pocket.

Since this card acts as a cabin key and credit card all in one, having a lanyard allows you to walk around the ship purse or bag free. One less thing to forget!

Speaking of forgetting, we hung our lanyards on the wall hooks in our cabin so we didn’t forget them.

Does Disney give you a lanyard on a cruise?

If you have cruised with Disney before, yes, they provide lanyards. In fact, they give out different colored lanyards depending on your Castaway Club level.

If you have already taken a Disney Cruise, you are a Castaway Club member. This membership provides special benefits onboard your next cruise, such as providing you with a Disney Cruise Line lanyard.

Lanyard colors

  • Silver members (at least 1 cruise) – Silver lanyard
  • Gold members (at least 5 cruises) – Gold lanyard
  • Platinum members (at least 10 cruises) – Platinum lanyard

Do I get a free lanyard on my first Disney Cruise?

Unfortunately, no. Only those who have sailed on a Disney Cruise receive free lanyards. However, there are many cute lanyards to purchase.

It’s less expensive to purchase one ahead of your cruise, although the cruise ship shops do carry them.

Amazon has a wide variety of lanyards , even ones themed for a Disney cruise.

My favorite is this blue and red lanyard with an anchor and helm, even though it’s not Disney related.

I also saw quite a few people (ok, just women) wear this cute Mickey-shaped neck pouch . Plus, there is an extra slot for another card or money and a zipper pouch for coins. It comes in several colors such as black, red, pink or light blue. This could serve double duty if you are headed to the parks in addition to a cruise.

Do kids need a lanyard on a Disney Cruise?

This may be a matter of preference, but we did not give our 8-year-old a lanyard. She was not going to be anywhere without us, so she didn’t need one.

Some parents definitely let their kids wander around by themselves. If that’s you, then yes, your child should have a lanyard so they can go back to the room.

Little K couldn’t believe parents at the dining table next to us let their 3-year-old go to the restroom by himself at dinner. I guess I’m just overprotective.

Hopefully, that answered all your Disney lanyard questions. But, if it didn’t, please ask any in the comments below.

I’m surprised Disney doesn’t give a lanyard for the first cruise anymore. My wife and I took our first cruise in 2007 aboard the Wonder. We received two black and red lanyards similar to what the Platinum lanyards look like, but no platinum color.

I wish they did, I mean really, it’s probably like 25 cents in bulk?

Do the Key to the World cards have a slot/hole where they can be attached directly to the lanyard, or do I need a lanyard style that has an ID holder pouch? Thanks!

Hi Amy – My last Key to the World card from Nov 2018 did NOT have a punched slot, so you needed a lanyard with an ID holder. Have fun on your cruise!

Now, every time I go on a cruise or any vacation for that matter, I always make sure to bring along a trusty lanyard – it’s become an essential item in my travel kit!

Six Questions and Answers about Disney Cruise’s Castaway Club

Flowers on Castaway Cay

Updated January 25, 2024

What is it?

Castaway Club is Disney Cruise Lines , a way of recognizing Guests who have sailed with them. If you’ve taken a Disney cruise, you’re already a Castaway Club member, and eligible to receive exclusive benefits that make your next cruise easier to plan.

How do you become a Castaway Club member?

You become a Castaway member after you have completed your first cruise. Take note of the word completed, if you have booked and paid for your cruise in full, you still need to have completed your cruise to become a member or move up a level.

What are the Castaway Club levels?

The 3 membership levels are based on the total number of completed eligible cruises:

  • Silver Castaway – 1 completed cruise
  • Gold Castaway – 5 completed cruises
  • Platinum Castaway – 10 completed cruises

Disney Cruise Levels including Pearl Castaway Club Benefits

About Eligible Sailings Sailings purchased at select fare types (such as media, vendors and Cast Members travelling on business) are not considered eligible cruises for calculating Castaway Club Membership levels.

What do Castaway Club members get?

The benefits of the Castaway Club depend on your level.

The benefits of being a Silver Castaway Club member include booking new itineraries one day before the general public. Silver members can book their Port Adventures, specialty dining, adult beverage seminars, spa services and other activities 90 days before the sailing. Access to a dedicated Castaway phone line. Early opportunity to book a Port Arrival Time (PAT) ( this benefit is currently paused due to the pandemic). Silver Castaway members also get an exclusive check-in desk at the terminal. A welcome-back gift and a silver lanyard are left in your stateroom for you. Pre-pandemic, you would get your lanyard in the terminal when you checked in. Check in 33 days prior to your cruise.

Beach Tote

Gold members have completed 5 cruises. They get all the benefits of Silver Castaway members. If you are Gold, you can book new itineraries two days before the general public and book port adventures and onboard activities 105 days before sailing. Gold and Platinum members sailing on cruises longer than 8 nights are also invited to an onboard reception. They offer complimentary adult beverages, and we received Rice Krispy Mickey treats and a preview of an upcoming show. Rounding out the benefits is a discount at the shops onboard. Check in 35 days prior to your cruise.

The Sling Bag

You become a platinum member after completing 10 cruises. As a platinum member, you receive all the benefits that silver and gold members get. Platinum cruisers can book new itineraries three days before the general public and get the first chance to book new itineraries. Onboard booking for platinum members is 120 days before the sailing. Only concierge guests get to book earlier, at 135 days. Platinum members also receive a complimentary dinner at Palo. Check in 38 days prior to your cruise.

Platinum Gift Cooler Backpack

New Pearl Level

Pearl Castaway Club  members can book new itineraries  4 days before the general public . Platinum will book 3 days prior, Gold 2 days and Silver 1 day before the general public.  Pearl member s will have early access to online activity planning starting 123 days before sailing . Platinum will remain at 120 days, Gold at 105, and Silver at 90 days. They also receieve a complimentary photo package. Check in 40 days prior to your cruise.

All members get a welcome back aboard gift. On May 1, 2023 new gifts were released for the 25th Anniversary of Disney Cruise.

How do I find my Castaway Club status?

To find out about your Castaway Status , you can find it under the already booked tab, and near the bottom is the Castaway Club link.

Castaway Club

Do Castaway Club members get a discount?

Castaway members do not get a discount. However, you can save 10% on your next cruise if you get a placeholder while on your cruise. Disney also has a discount for New Castawy Club Members. The Castaway Club Welcome Offer needs to be booked within  60 days of disembarking  your first cruise.

Castaway Cay Bahamas

Does your Castaway Membership Expire?

I have added one more question and answer because of a recent change to the Disney Cruise Line website. Recently, DCL quietly changed the Castaway Club by adding an expiration to their membership. “To remain in the program, Castaway Club Members  must book or sail on at least one eligible cruise within five years of their last Disney voyage . For more information, view the  Castaway Club terms and conditions .”

Castaway Club Members must book or sail on at least one eligible cruise within five years of their last Disney voyage.

The language used is open to interpretation. When you click through the terms and conditions, you will find this:  “The Activity Period shall mean the five (5) year period after debarkation day of the Member’s last eligible DCL Cruise.  However, DCL may (but is not required to) extend the Activity Period and/or continue making Program Benefits available to Member if Member does not book or complete an eligible DCL cruise within their Activity Period ; such decisions shall be in DCL’s sole discretion. ” It is unclear why Disney would make this change; it is an outlier in cruising.

Disney cruise line lanyards.

We have discussed Disney Cruise Line’s Key to the World Card .  After reading that post, you may wonder how you are going to carry your card around?

First Time Disney Cruiser

If you are a first time cruiser, you are going to have to provide your own lanyard.  Disney only provides lanyards to return cruisers.  Here is a great choice that is available on board the ship:

Disney Cruise Line Lanyard Wallet

What I like the most about this choice is that not only will it hold your Key to the World card, but it has a small zipper pocket as well for cash.  The Key to the World card will also slide out of the pocket for it easily vs the standard lanyard, which has to be taken out of the plastic pouch (which sticks to the card).

Specialty Cruises

There are some great ones available for Marvel as well!

Returning Disney Cruiser

If you are a member of the Castaway Club, which is Disney’s frequent cruisers club, Disney will give you a lanyard when you arrive at the port for boarding.  To be a member of the Castaway Club, you only have to complete one cruise.  When you arrive for your second cruise, you will have a lanyard waiting for you.

For your second through fifth cruises, you will get a Silver Lanyard.  We haven’t been Silver for a while, so I don’t personally have one of the new Silver Lanyards.  Luckily, our friends sent us a picture of the one they just received.  Here are the different Silver Castaway Club Lanyards we have received over the years:

Disney Cruise Line’s Castaway Club

Posted on Published: 08/13/2023

If you’ve ever traveled on the Disney Cruise Line, you’ve probably heard about the Disney Cruise Line Castaway Club. The Castaway Club is Disney Cruise Line’s frequent traveler program/loyalty program, and it’s completely free to join. Unlike airline frequent flier programs, however, you don’t earn free trips or points. Instead, as you level up, you get access to exclusive benefits, including earlier check-in, free Palo meals , and much more.

Whether you are considering your first Disney Cruise, or are already a member, here’s what you need to know about the Disney Cruise Line Castaway Club.

Disclosure: I’ve been on a complimentary preview cruise and two cruises through Disney Social Media Moms, as well as over a dozen cruises at my own expense. All opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links and a purchase/click through one of these links may result in a commission paid to us.

How much does it cost to sign up as a disney cruise castaway club member how do you sign up.

You don’t need to pay to sign up as a Castaway Club member. If you are wondering how to become a Castaway Club member, it’s seamless. You’ll automatically become a silver member after your first qualifying cruise (there are a few exclusions, such as media cruises, which do not qualify for Castaway Club status).

Your status is tracked automatically, so you don’t need to worry about it. You’ll be assigned a Disney Castaway Club number, and you don’t need to sign up – you’ll just automatically become a member. You can log in online to see your current status as well as a list of your qualifying cruises.

There’s no other way to “level up” in the system beyond taking cruises – there are no Castaway Club credit cards, bonuses, or other ways to get status upgrades. Just keep cruising!

You’ll Level Up as You Take More Cruises

Unlike frequent flier programs, which are usually based on the length of your flight or the price paid, the Disney Cruise Line Castaway Club levels are all based on the number of cruises sailed on the Disney Cruise Line. That means that a 3-night Bahamian cruise counts as much as a 7-night European cruise. Each cruise counts towards your Castaway Club status.

Your Castaway Club Benefits Start After Your Qualifying Cruise

That means you’ll be silver on the cruise after your first cruise, a gold Castaway Club member on the cruise after your fifth cruise, a platinum Castaway Club member on the cruise after your tenth cruise, and a pearl Castaway Club member after your twenty-fifth cruise. You are not a gold member ON your fifth cruise or a platinum member ON the tenth cruise. You need to complete those cruises in order to earn that status. There are currently four Disney Cruise levels – silver, gold, platinum, and pearl.

Your Level Doesn’t Reset

Frequent flier programs on the airlines typically reset every year, so to keep up your status, you’ll need to continue flying that airline. The Disney Cruise Line Castaway Club membership doesn’t reset. Once you obtain a certain level, you don’t lose it. Just keep taking cruises to improve your status within the program.

What Do Castaway Club Members Get?

Disney Castaway Club cruise gifts start after you become a Silver Castaway Club member. With the Disney Cruise Line Castaway Club, you don’t earn free cruises with your status. However, you do get lots of other benefits.

For instance, you’ll receive a stateroom gift upon arrival (one gift per stateroom). The gift one year was the tote bag pictured above, along with reusable coffee mugs (gifts can vary). Other gifts have included whiteboards and photo albums. Castaway Club members will also receive a Disney Cruise lanyard in different colors to hold their Key to the World Card.

Disney Cruise Line Lanyards

by Living With The Magic Vacations | Sep 12, 2018 | Disney Cruise Line | 0 comments

Disney Cruise Line Lanyards

When you check-in to your Disney Cruise vacation, you’ll be given a Key to the World card…similar to what was used at Walt Disney World pre-Magic Bands. This little card is your “key” (pun intended) to everything on board!!

disney cruise lanyard levels

Let’s go over what this little card has to say and where you’ll need it! -Ship Name (Disney Magic, Wonder, Dream or Fantasy) -Guest Name…that’s YOU! -Muster Station: On arrival day you’ll be required to attend a muster drill. This letter will tell you which station is yours AND where you would go in case of an emergency! -Table Number: Each night aboard your cruise, you’ll experience a different restaurant! -Check-in line Number -Dining Time, Restaurant Rotation and Table Number:

  • Each night, there is a Main Seating and a Second Seating for dinner. In general, the Main Seating begins between 5:45 PM and 6:15 PM and the Second Seating begins between 8:00 PM and 8:30 PM, though these times may vary based on itinerary.
  • With Rotational Dining you’ll get the chance to experience a different restaurant each night! This combination of letters is the order in which you’ll experience those restaurants! Restaurants are different on each ship! Rapunzel’s Royal Table, Tiana’s Place, Animators Palate, Royal Court, Enchanted Garden, Triton’s, Royal Palace, and Lumiere’s!
  • While you’ll change restaurants each night, you’ll always have the same servers and sit at the same table!

-A: Adult or M: Minor -Transportation Type:  PA for Port and Airport, P for Disney Transportation to the Port, RPA for Resort to Port to Airport, A for Disney Transportation to the Airport, R for Disney Resort and PR for Port and Resort -Sail Dates

Now let’s talk about WHAT you use your card for!

Boarding Upon check-in your photo will be taken and attached to your card. Each time you board they’ll verify that you are…well you!

2017-06-28 14.35.39.jpg

Payment Anytime you are purchasing something on-board the ship, you’ll use your Key to The World card to pay! This includes alcohol, the spa, BINGO, gift shops, photography, laundry and more!

Disney Cruise Line lanyard

Lanyards are of course optional but we find it super handy to have our Key To The World Card handy whenever we need it!

BONUS! On the Dream Class Ships there is an energy saving mechanism that causes the lights to go out unless your Key to The World Card is put in the slot. This can be a little annoying to have to constantly remove it so check out Etsy for cards you can insert INSTEAD (these all make good Fish Extender gifts)!!!

Castaway Club Pearl Level Begins May 1, 2023

Disney Cruise Line revealed the start date for their soon to launch new Castaway Club tier, Pearl. Starting May 1, 2023, guests who’ve completed 25 sailings with Disney Cruise Line will become Pearl Castaway Club Members. However, at this time those booked on these early Silver Anniversary at Sea summer sailings are unable to take advantage of early access to activity planning and remain at the 120-day Platinum booking window.

DCL Castaway Club 20230215

The cruise line’s Castaway Club page has been updated with the Pearl level but just like they said previously, “a pearl is a valued treasure that takes time and care to take shape.”

Meaning, additional details on the new Pearl benefits will be announced at a later time. As for now, Pearl level will include a special gift, one-time dining at Palo or Palo Steakhouse and exclusive early booking privileges.

Below is a look at the updated Castaway Club Member Benefits with the Pearl level.

DCL Castaway Club Member Benefits 20230215

As we sit and wait for the exciting details to be revealed about the exclusive benefits in store for Pearl Castaway Club Members, I’m curious… What would you like to see added as a Pearl benefit?

No port arrival time again. Maybe some on board credit?

' src=

Did they take away the early boarding for Platinum? Or did I miss that?

Yes. Everyone except those staying on Disney property and using Disney transportation to the port has to get a port arrival time. I believe the only exception is concierge. So if you are platinum arriving on your own you need to be up at midnight.

' src=

I’d like to see status based on nights at sea. I perfer 7 night cruises… to make Platinum that’s 70 nights. for someone that does just 3 nights that’s only 30. So who’s spent more time and money on DCL?

' src=

They should also consider level of cabin then.

can’t disagree with that.

' src=

Disney has become a brand for wealthy people and that is a tragedy. I know Walt’s been dead forever, but it would be nice to keep his vision alive and create opportunities for everyone…. So, making the status based on money kinda leaves people who may scrimp and save and book inside cabins out altogether. Maybe a different reward for spending $XX over a set period of time…? And leave the status to # of cruises. I get the point of nights vs cruises but again – you want to reward people for being loyal fans whatever they have spent?! Yes? No? And what about all the Floridians who can easily cruise on weekends, and they can get a discount to boot? Compare them to the people who flew to wherever to get on the ship? How would you account for that? I like rewards based on loyalty vs $$. Because I am not wealthy. I would like to feel that I have a chance to hit Pearl even though I am getting old and that probably won’t happen. We do book veranda, sometimes family veranda, sometimes 2 cabins for the 4 of us because we all have some sleep issues. We have done 3 nights, 4 nights, 7 nights, 10 and 11 nights. Caribbean, Bahamas, Northern Europe, Mediterranean – a fair mix. And I am aware how blessed and lucky we are to be able do that. Most of my reward is the cruise itself and feeling like Disney is safe and cares about the details. Never cruised on another line – don’t know if we ever will.

' src=

I’ve been saying they needed to factor the length and cabin category into the levels. Why should someone that spends the money for a 14 night veranda cruise earn the came credit as someone that takes a 3 night in an inside cabin? Yea it’s a bit of class warfare but Disney is already doing that with the parks on which resorts can get extra early park entrance.

' src=

I’ve been Gold for a few cruises now and have never had access to “early port time”. I have to do the 30-day Online Check-In rat race at midnight like everyone else and usually end up with a late port arrival time. Also, have never seen a “private onboard reception”.

I’ve never seen the special discounts, either.

' src=

They changed they reception to only being for 8 night (and more) cruises awhile back – so they are fairly rare (especially considering most people do 7 night cruises). And currently, they are paused for any length cruise.

' src=

It’s not paused anymore. On the last WBTA in september 2022 the reception did happened !

' src=

Anyone notice the platinum benefit says “dinner at Palo” not a meal at a Palo? Has it always been worded this way? Or does this mean brunch will soon be excluded?

' src=

Tracey – It has always been this way with Palo.

' src=

Maybe this has already been mentioned somewhere but do we think the summer 2024 itineraries will be released to coincide with the new Pearl benefits so the new level can take advantage of early booking?

' src=

Would love Pearl to get early boarding, free wifi and early booking for itineraries & port adventures but I’ll be happy with whatever they offer. 🙂

26 Disney cruise tips, tricks, secrets and extra magic to unlock when setting sail with Mickey

Summer Hull

Disney Cruise Line might be a comparatively small cruise line with just five ships, but what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in popularity and enthusiastic fans. It also has some unique approaches to cruising that may surprise you — whether you're a first-time cruiser or an experienced cruiser on a different line.

After sailing on six Disney Cruise Line voyages across four of its ships in the last few years, I've picked up a few hacks and money-saving techniques I'm happy to pass on to you. No matter if this is your first time at sea or your 99th, you can benefit from this list of 26 Disney cruise tips, tricks and secrets.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

You can find discounts on Disney Cruises

Disney cruises are generally more expensive than other family-friendly competitors such as Royal Caribbean , but there are still ways to save money on a Disney cruise . Here are some different discounts you can find for Disney Cruise Line.

When booking a Disney cruise, your best move is to book the cruise as soon as it becomes available. You'll have the best selection of cabins and generally the best prices. Sometimes, you can find discounts closer to the sailing if certain room types aren't selling as hoped.

Sail one-way

A few times a year, Disney ships based in seasonal homeports need to head toward their next cruising region. When that happens, the ships sail one-way (aka repositioning) cruises , starting in one port and ending in a different one. You can often book these one-off sailings for less money than the normal round-trip cruises that start and end in the same spot.

For example, Disney Dream will sail a three-night cruise to move it from San Juan to Ft. Lauderdale in November. You can book a cabin with a balcony for $1,580 for two people, which is a solid price on Disney Dream. The $3,326 price tag for a concierge-level cabin is very good; those cabins usually start at close to $800 to $1,000 higher on many other three-night sailings.

Remember to factor in the cost of two one-way flights when you're calculating the savings bonus of taking a one-way cruise.

Let Disney pick your cabin

If you're not picky about which cabin you get, an easy way to save a substantial amount of cash on your Disney cruise is to let Disney pick your cabin for you. You select a room type (such as an inside room or one with a balcony) and then let Disney assign you to a specific cabin location closer to sailing. For your flexibility, this type of guaranteed fare comes at a discount.

In the example below, you'll see the cheapest inside cabin where you pick a specific room on the ship is $2,072, while the price starts at $1,488 if you let Disney choose which inside room you get. This type of fare comes with additional restrictions, so read the fine print carefully. I've done this multiple times and have always been happy with the room location I've received.

disney cruise lanyard levels

Upgrade your room at the port for less

Depending on the ship's occupancy, it can be cheaper to upgrade your cabin at the port right before you board than in advance. There's no guarantee a better room will be available, but it can't hurt to ask when you are checking in inside the port just before boarding if nicer rooms are available.

disney cruise lanyard levels

If higher room categories have gone unsold, the check-in staff can tell you the price to upgrade to a nicer room; they can reference a spreadsheet that outlines the upgrade rates based on your current cabin and fare. In my experience, you can save up to half the cost compared to upgrading your room in advance.

Pay with points or discounted Disney gift cards

You can pay with discounted Disney gift cards to save a little money. There are many ways to do this, but stacking credit card bonus categories with discounted gift cards that can be available at places like Sam's Club or even Target can knock around 5% off the total price without too much effort.

You can also use some types of credit card points and miles to pay for a Disney cruise. For example, you can use Capital One miles from cards such as the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card (see rates and fees ) and Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card , (see rates and fees) to cover all or part of any charge that's considered a travel expense.

The Disney Visa Card also offers some onboard savings perks and you can enjoy 0% APR for six months on your Disney vacation packages from the date of purchase, after that a variable APR of 19.24%-28.24%.

2 rooms are cheaper than a suite

If your family is considering getting a suite to spread out and have more space, but are finding the prices for Disney Cruise Line suites to be prohibitively high, consider connecting staterooms instead. A family of four can expect to spend about 50% more on connecting cabins instead of all staying in one room, which is likely a lot less than buying up to a suite which can be several times the cost of a regular room.

Get free Mickey ice cream bars (and more) from room service

Unless you're staying in a concierge-level stateroom (more on that soon), room service on a Disney cruise is relatively basic. However, it's available at no extra charge, so use it as much or as little as you like.

I'm a fan of ordering room service for a quick breakfast (or that first hit of coffee) or for a fun anytime treat of Mickey ice cream bars. I often order Uncrustables from room service the night before port days to toss in my bag for the family to eat while ashore. My girls learned how to politely call to order these by the second or third day of the cruise.

It's a common courtesy to add a few dollars for a tip to the slip that you'll sign when the order is delivered.

disney cruise lanyard levels

Order as much dinner as you want

On Disney Cruise Line, you'll be assigned a dinner rotation through the three included restaurants on the ship. Your serving team will rotate with you, which is pretty fun as they get to know you and your preferences.

Since this food is all included, don't be shy. If you can't decide between the shrimp or salmon entree, try both. Order a couple of appetizers or be daring and try a dish you've never tasted before.

When it comes time for dessert, create your own sampler-platter for the table and taste them rather than limiting yourself to one selection.

disney cruise lanyard levels

You aren't locked into your assigned dining plans

If, for some reason, your assigned order of restaurants or tablemates (if you have any) aren't working out, don't be shy about asking guest services to make alterations. They will connect you with the appropriate people within the dining team to make necessary adjustments.

New movie releases are shown in the theaters

While a movie theater may sound like a strange place to spend a few hours at sea, I recommend making time to go see a new Disney movie while on your next Disney Cruise. The ships show first-run movies, so instead of heading to your local theater to see the next Marvel, Pixar or other Disney film released close to your cruise date, save some money and enjoy the movie at sea for no extra charge.

In fact, if you are at sea when a new Disney movie premieres on land, you'll get to see it the same night on the ship, too.

disney cruise lanyard levels

It's cash-free on the ship — except for this

You don't need much cash while on a Disney cruise. Your "Key to the World" room key serves as your form of payment and identification on the ship. I highly recommend bringing a lanyard to keep track of this important card if it's your first Disney voyage. Return cruisers are given a lanyard in their cabin.

However, if you want to add an extra tip to your service team at the end of the cruise beyond the standard amount that's charged to your folio, it's nice to do that with cash. If you are staying in a concierge-level room, you may want to pack some extra cash for the concierge lounge hosts and the evening bartenders, too.

disney cruise lanyard levels

Your kids can (maybe) get into an older club

Disney Cruise Line divides kids into four age groups — the nursery (up to age 3), the primary kids club (3–12), a tween club (11–14) and a teen club (14–17). The clubs, other than the nursery, are complimentary, so the magic age for a Disney cruise begins once your child is at least 3 years old and potty-trained, so they can enjoy time in the kids clubs while you enjoy … whatever you want.

disney cruise lanyard levels

Once your kid is ready to age up to the next club, they can actually do that a little early with your permission. For example, my oldest was able to level up to the tween club at 10 years old and the teen club at 13 years old with a signed slip from me, so use (or hide) that information as it suits you best. I will say that once your kid levels up in those clubs, they probably won't go back much to the previous club.

Take note that the tween and teen clubs allow kids to come and go at will. If you need your child to be monitored, then they will need to stay in the main kids club, which is open through age 12.

disney cruise lanyard levels

Hit the pools early or late to avoid crowds

If you don't want to swim in a crowded pool or wait in a long line for a slide around the AquaDuck or AquaMouse, you'll need to employ some strategy. I recommend heading to the waterslide the second you board the ship if it is warm enough in your port, as that is as empty as it's going to get.

If you miss that window, mornings are also pretty empty, as are late afternoons as everyone starts to get ready for the evening. Avoid mid-day on sea days at all costs unless you like swimming with dozens of your new best friends.

disney cruise lanyard levels

You'll want to decorate your door

The cabin doors on a Disney cruise are almost all metal, so decorative magnets will stick to the doors nicely. Pack themed magnets to decorate your door. Not only is it fun to participate in this shipwide decoration, but the personalized door serves to help kids (or tired adults) find their cabin should they forget the room number.

disney cruise lanyard levels

You can keep things simple or order personalized magnets on a site like Etsy in advance of your sailing. You may see some doors that go all out and even have pouches with goodies in them. Those hanging pouches are known as fish extenders (as they hang off of a fish built into the ship). They often signify that the cabin is participating in a gift exchange with others on the cruise that they arranged beforehand on Facebook.

disney cruise lanyard levels

Your sailing has a Facebook group and it's worth joining

Speaking of Facebook, the odds are excellent that your individual sailing has a Facebook group with several hundred people in it. If you wish to participate in gift exchanges, get to know your shipmates pre-cruise or tap into a hive mind for advice on picking excursions and packing, it's a big asset to belong to a group specific to your sailing.

Go to Facebook and search for your sailing (e.g. Disney Wonder Alaska June 12 - 19). You'll likely find a "private" group that's not officially affiliated with the cruise line. Join the group to be kept in the loop and to drum up excitement for your trip before you set sail.

Soda is free if you know where to look

If you order a can of Coke in the dining room or from room service, it's going to cost you a few dollars, but you can get as much free soda as you want from the fountain. These are usually located on the pool deck and in the buffet area. Bring a refillable bottle so you can easily take your soda with you around the ship.

Check the app for happy hours

Alcohol isn't free on board, but you can find discounted drinks at happy hour. On my most recent Disney cruise, select drinks were 50% off from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the ship's pub. Check your Navigator app during your sailing to look for happy hours on your Disney cruise.

disney cruise lanyard levels

The best merchandise sells out

If you see a cool hat, sweatshirt or shirt you adore, buy it as soon as you spot it. The onboard gift shops are only open while the ship is at sea, and the popular items sell out (and generally don't get restocked while you're on board).

A Disney cruise is not just for families

There's no doubt that families make up a large portion of the Disney Cruise Line passenger base, but a Disney cruise is not just for kids . The ships cater to childless couples and friend groups with special spaces reserved just for grownups.

Each ship has an adults-only nightlife area and/or multiple bars and lounges to visit in the evening. An adults-only sun deck includes a pool and space to sunbathe. Each ship also has one or two adults-only restaurants you can retreat to at dinnertime if you want to ensure a high-end and kid-free meal. (You'll have to pay extra for these meals, however.)

disney cruise lanyard levels

Disney offers legitimately good liquor and tastings

On top of the cocktails and drinks you may expect, Disney ships offer some very high-end liquors on board. I shared a photo of the below beverage cart on Instagram while on a recent cruise and got dozens of messages from people shocked Disney would have Pappy's bourbon. That specific 23-year-old bottle goes for several hundred dollars per drink, and it's on board Disney cruise ships.

If you're looking for something more affordable, sign up for one of the various beverage-tasting classes on offer. Most of the tastings are $40 - $50, and you'll get to sample a few drinks, as well as learn more about wine, tequila, bourbon and other beverages.

disney cruise lanyard levels

You don't need to pay for motion sickness pills

If you find the motion of the ocean to be a bit more than you bargained for, head to guest services, and they will give you — and your kids — motion sickness pills free of charge.

Pro tip: Don't wait until you are feeling terrible to start battling any potential motion sickness . At the first signs of queasiness, seek out a remedy. Green apples and ginger candy are alternatives for travelers who prefer not to take medicine.

The concierge lounge is extra magical

If you want your own personal Fairy Godmother who all but ensures you get the bookings you want, the best meal times, coveted reservations at the adults-only restaurants and cabana access at Castaway Cay, then book yourself into a concierge-level cabin or suite.

You'll get all that, plus you can board the ship first and skip the lines when disembarking. Concierge guests get exclusive access to a lounge with included evening drinks and a private sun deck (with a hot tub on Disney Wish ). You can order meals from the onboard restaurants to your room, and hang out with a Disney character in the lounge one evening of the cruise.

Not to mention, you'll be staying in some of the nicest and largest accommodations on the ship.

disney cruise lanyard levels

Concierge-level rooms do not come cheap, but they're the way to go if you want cream-of-the-crop service on a Disney cruise. I'd venture that the added perks and extra booking window for specialty restaurants and Castaway Cay are most valuable on the shorter Disney cruises of three or four nights.

Find your way by looking at the carpet

It can be disorienting at first to find your way around a cruise ship, but Disney makes it easy to know if you are heading forward or aft when you're in the long cabin hallways. If the carpet design is upside down, you're heading toward the back of the ship, but if it is right side up, you're heading to the front of the ship. In the photo below, the globe is the clue.

disney cruise lanyard levels

Late dinner is better

Disney cruise ships offer two dinner options — early or late seating. Your showtime for the evening entertainment is opposite your dinner; if you have an early dinner, you have the late show and vice versa.

It's logical to assume that an early dinner at 5:45 p.m., as opposed to late dinner at 8:15 p.m., is better if you have little kids. Having done both, I'd say that late dinner is vastly superior in most situations.

First, 5:45 p.m. is too early to have made the most of your day and be ready for dinner. With all there is to eat on the cruise, you might not even be hungry yet. Beyond that, if you aren't heading into the dark theater to see the show until 8:15 p.m., it can be hard for little ones to sit still or stay awake.

However, if you see the show first and then eat dinner, the servers are great about expressing your meal with little kids. It's better to do a quick dinner and then head to bed (or back to the kids club!) than an early dinner and miss the evening shows because your kid no longer has the ability to sit still.

disney cruise lanyard levels

The $45 adult restaurant is worth it

If you enjoy fine dining, book a fancy dinner at one of the adults-only restaurants. Depending on which ship you are on, there will be one or two restaurants that are reserved for adults — Palo and perhaps also Remy or Enchante .

Remy and Enchante are super-fancy and pricy, but Palo is approachable-fancy and costs an additional $45 per person for the set menu. It's 100% worth the money if you can get a booking.

disney cruise lanyard levels

You'll leave any cartoony trace of Disney behind as you leisurely indulge on beef tenderloin, sea scallops, grilled lobster with pasta, calamari and chocolate souffle.

The best character meetings aren't the posted ones

You'll find many character meet-and-greets on the itinerary for each day where it's known that Mickey, Donald or Minnie will be at a specific place at a specific time for a brief hello and a photo. Those meetups are great, but they are not the best character interactions you'll find on Disney Cruise Line.

The best time you'll have with characters will be when you least expect to see them. You might spot Goofy walking around in his pajamas, Donald waddling out on the deck or Minnie strolling the halls in her finest dress.

disney cruise lanyard levels

These encounters can't be planned or predicted, but without the lines and forced nature of a quick photo, the more free-form interaction with the characters is better than any planned photo sessions you'll find on land or sea.

All the characters come out to say goodbye on the last night

On the last night of each cruise, all of the classic characters come out to the atrium for a short time (15 - 20 minutes) so you can snap a quick photo with anyone you missed before they do their final farewell presentation. Check your app for this goodbye show, which usually occurs around 10 or 10:30 p.m.

disney cruise lanyard levels

Pro tip: If you have a specific character you want to photograph, ask a cast member setting up for the event where that character usually stands during photo time. That way, you can position yourself in the right area to snap a photo because the event can turn chaotic in a hurry.

Skip the debarkation line by carrying your own bags

Getting off the ship at the same time as thousands of other guests can be a buzzkill, so don't do that. If you can manage your own bags, don't put them out the night before and take them off the ship yourself the final morning.

That leaves you free to disembark as early as possible before the regular disembarkation begins, which might be around 7:30 a.m. or so, depending on the port, weather and other factors. You can avoid the crowds because you don't have to wait for your luggage to be assembled along with everyone else.

You can bring your own water and wine

If you want to have bottled water at the ready, bring a case of it onboard. It will need to be sealed in its original packaging and you have to carry it on (instead of having it in checked luggage), but it can be worth it if you want to save money for the truly yummy drinks.

disney cruise lanyard levels

If you enjoy wine or beer out on your veranda, you can save a little cash by bringing your own alcohol onboard , with limits. Guests 21 years and older may bring a maximum of two bottles of unopened wine or Champagne (no larger than 750 ml) or a six-pack of beer (no larger than 12 ounces) on board at the beginning of the voyage and at each port of call. Again, these beverages need to be carried on and not stashed in checked bags.

You can enjoy the spa without a treatment

If you love the idea of spa-like quiet and relaxation without paying around $200+ per treatment, look into the Rainforest Room in the Senses Spa, which costs much less than that per day. Depending on demand, you can book a one-day pass or get a pass that lasts the duration of your cruise. Inquire in the spa as to availability and exact pricing, but it's certainly going to be less than a spa treatment.

Each of the Disney ships has its own version of this room. On Disney Wish, the space has not only the heated loungers that are a common fixture in each of these thermal areas, but also an indoor and outdoor lounge component, a steam room, a chilled ice room and a relaxing water feature for dangling your feet.

disney cruise lanyard levels

Bottom line

You can't go wrong in booking a Disney cruise as there is already so much included and available at your fingertips. But with a little knowledge, you can skip some of the common first-timer mistakes and board like a pro, starting with your first cruise.

Disney Cruise Line Concierge Benefits

A Disney Concierge Cruise goes beyond comfortable rooms and scenic views. It’s about enjoying an array of exclusive Disney Cruise Concierge perks that amplify the magic and fun of your journey. Let’s take a peek behind the curtain and explore these benefits:

Access to the Concierge Lounge and Private Sun Deck

Within the ship, concierge guests have exclusive access to the Concierge Lounge, a serene haven stocked with complimentary snacks, beverages, and even Disney Cruise Concierge free drinks. Plus, the private sun deck offers a quiet escape with an incredible view.

Dedicated Concierge Service

From pre-booking activities and dining reservations to providing a special Disney Cruise Concierge room service menu, guests receive a personalized experience tailored to their preferences.

How Much Do Disney Cruise Concierge Rooms Cost?

Given the luxurious nature and exclusive perks, the cost of Disney Cruise Concierge rooms is understandably higher than standard staterooms. While the exact prices vary depending on the type of room, the ship, and the itinerary, guests can expect to shell out a pretty penny for this premium experience. For a detailed breakdown of prices, refer to the Disney Cruise Cost Guide .

Is Disney Cruise Concierge Level Worth It?

To answer the question, “Is concierge worth it on a Disney Cruise?” or “Is Disney Cruise Concierge worth it?”, we must look at it from different perspectives. The added cost of a Concierge Stateroom Disney Cruise is not just about the room – it’s about the superior service, the exclusive access, and the attention to detail that adds depth to your cruise experience.

The allure of the Disney Cruise Concierge benefits, such as priority booking for activities and dining, the concierge lounge and deck, and the personalized service, can be incredibly appealing for guests looking for a more luxurious and relaxed vacation. Plus, for those traveling with kids, the added convenience can make a significant difference.

On the other hand, guests who plan to spend most of their time exploring the ship’s various activities and ports of call may find the standard staterooms more than adequate.

To put it simply, a Disney Concierge Cruise is like the cherry on top of a sundae. Even without it, the Disney Cruise for Adults experience is a delightful treat. But with it, it’s a memory to treasure forever.

As the famous quote goes, “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” So whether you choose to cruise at the Concierge Level or not, the magic of a Disney Cruise lies in the laughter, the adventures, and the priceless memories you’ll make along the journey. After all, Disney is not just for kids; it’s a slice of paradise that has something for adults too.

Disney Cruise Line Concierge Level is the embodiment of luxury at sea. It provides a seamless blend of comfort, convenience, and a touch of exclusivity, wrapping guests in a cocoon of Disney magic from the moment they embark on their journey until they bid their final goodbyes. From the Disney Concierge Cruise perks to the magical ambiance, every moment on the ship becomes a cherished memory when you sail at the Concierge Level.

Despite this glitz and glamor, remember, whether you opt for the Concierge Level or a standard stateroom, the magic of a Disney Cruise lies not in where you sleep but in the adventures you embark upon and the memories you create. So pack your bags, put on your Mickey’s ears, and get ready for a journey that will take you into the heart of your favorite fairy tales.

On the final day, they benefit from priority debarkation, making their transition back to land as effortless as possible. Furthermore, in ports where tender boats are required, concierge guests enjoy priority tendering, adding another layer of convenience to their excursion experiences.

Choosing a Disney Cruise Concierge room means embracing an enhanced cruise experience filled with special touches, elevated service, and an extra dose of Disney magic, designed to create an unforgettable vacation that goes above and beyond ordinary cruising.

Benefits of Concierge or Club Level Rooms

Concierge-level rooms on a Disney cruise offer numerous benefits:

  • Priority boarding, show seating, and onboard activity access.
  • Access to a private lounge with complimentary drinks.
  • Priority booking for excursions and activities.
  • Expedited debarkation and tendering to ports.
  • Personal concierge service for a hassle-free experience.

These perks provide a luxurious, convenient, and stress-free cruise vacation.

Cost and Considerations

Disney Cruise Line Concierge-level rooms are quite expensive, with prices starting around $3,000 for a short trip for two and increasing significantly for larger suites or longer cruises. These rooms offer luxury and personalized services such as private lounges, priority boarding, and special access to activities and dining.

When deciding if it’s worth the extra cost, consider the value the amenities add to your cruise experience, especially for shorter trips where time is limited, and the desire for a more exclusive and indulgent vacation is high.

Concierge Lounge and Amenities

The concierge lounge on a Disney cruise is a secluded and luxurious retreat exclusively available to concierge-level guests. This private lounge is designed to offer a serene and comfortable space for guests to unwind and indulge in light snacks, small plates, and complimentary beer, wine, and spirits, creating a truly elevated cruise experience. For example, guests can savor a glass of premium wine while enjoying a peaceful ocean view, adding an extra touch of indulgence to their vacation.

Moreover, concierge-level guests have the privilege of accessing private sun decks, which are adorned with comfortable lounge chairs, umbrellas, hot tubs. This exclusive outdoor space provides a tranquil haven for guests to bask in the sun, take in breathtaking sea views, and enjoy moments of relaxation away from the bustling areas of the ship. For instance, guests can immerse themselves in a good book while reclining on a plush sun lounger, simply unwind in the soothing waters of the hot tub, or getting themselves spa treatments creating unforgettable memories amidst the luxurious amenities. This access to private and refined spaces reflects the unparalleled level of comfort and exclusivity that comes with booking a concierge-level room on a Disney cruise.

Concierge Services and Hosts

You’re stepping into a realm of exclusive services that amplify the magic and comfort of your vacation. Before you even set sail, you benefit from pre-arrival services that grant you priority when booking the cruise line’s sought-after activities, dining options, and shore excursions. This early access is orchestrated by a dedicated Concierge Team, who cater to your needs, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable start to your adventure.

Once aboard, a Concierge Host is at your service, offering a personal touch to your stay. They’re there to recommend the best onboard experiences, respond to any specific needs, and guarantee you have all you desire for a delightful cruise. One of the special advantages of staying at this level is the chance to reserve cabanas on Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, ahead of others, providing a serene spot to unwind during your island visit.

Concierge-level accommodations don’t just end with exceptional service; they also include special gifts and superior stateroom amenities that bring a sense of indulgence to your living space. These thoughtful details ensure your cruise is not just a trip but a luxurious retreat. Plus, with complimentary internet access provided to concierge guests, you’re always just a click away from sharing your experiences or staying in touch with the world ashore.

A Disney Cruise with concierge benefits will unlock a world of personalized attention, premium benefits, and exclusive privileges that enrich your holiday and make it an experience to cherish.

Personalized Itinerary and Special Dining

Prepare to be treated to a host of special amenities designed to enhance your vacation. One of the highlights is the exclusive dining room seating included in your personalized itinerary, which is accessible via the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. This app not only keeps you in the loop but also offers tailored recommendations to ensure you make the most of your time at sea.

Your concierge experience is marked by special dining arrangements that provide a unique atmosphere distinct from the main dining areas. Enjoy private meals in select spots on the ship, themed dinners, and the chance to experience a chef’s table where every dish is a work of art, courtesy of the ship’s culinary team. The personalized attention to your dining room seating and service is a testament to the luxurious and intimate dining encounters reserved for concierge guests.

But the indulgence doesn’t stop there. You’ll have access to intimate meet-and-greet sessions with beloved Disney characters—perfect for creating memorable moments with the little ones.

Worth of Concierge Level

Shorter wait times make holidays more enjoyable. The benefits depend on the time of year, travel path, size of the ship, and how big the family is, with more advantages during busy times and for bigger groups. Extra perks like special presents, better facilities, and first dibs on reservations and unique activities make the higher-priced concierge service worth it for those who want a lavish and relaxed trip.

Comparison with Standard Rooms

When deciding between concierge and standard rooms on a Disney cruise, consider the following differences:

Concierge Rooms:

  • Luxury Features : Concierge rooms boast high-end furnishings and sophisticated décor, offering a more opulent experience. Think premium bedding, generous space, and tasteful design.
  • Exclusive Access : Guests in these rooms can enjoy private lounges and sun decks, away from the crowds. These areas typically include plush lounge chairs, umbrellas, and hot tubs, perfect for relaxation with a view.
  • Special Perks : Those staying in concierge rooms get special gifts and superior room amenities, elevating the cruise experience.
  • Internet Access : Concierge guests often receive complimentary internet, allowing for easy online access throughout the journey.

Standard Rooms:

  • Basic Comfort : Standard rooms provide the essentials for a comfortable stay without the frills of the concierge level.
  • Affordable : These rooms are a more economical choice for travelers who prioritize budget over luxury.

Concierge Accommodation Examples:

  • Concierge Wish Tower Suite
  • Concierge Royal Suite with Verandah
  • Concierge 2-Bedroom Suite with Verandah
  • Concierge 1-Bedroom Suite with Verandah
  • Concierge Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah

In short, concierge rooms are about upscale comfort and exclusive perks, while standard rooms offer a more basic cruise experience.
