We also recommend using the Electric Picnic app on site to work out any potential clashes in your planned schedule.

How to get to Electric Picnic 2023

Festivalgoers are encouraged to use public transport or car share to reduce the festival's carbon footprint and minimise traffic delays.

The pick-up and drop-off points for the festival are located in the Green Car Park. It's accessed on foot through Paintball Gate.

If you're getting there by car, you'll be taking one of the following:

  • M7 southbound from Dublin and the North
  • M7 northbound from Limerick
  • M8 northbound from Cork and the South
  • N80 from Galway and the West

Make sure you follow the event traffic signage closer to the site. Cars will be directed to the designated parking areas.

Two coach services providing travel across Ireland to EP this year are Travelmaster and Irish Concert Travel. Check their individual websites for full details.

In Dublin, Marathon Coaches are also running a service, with tickets still available at the time of writing.

If you're travelling from the North, Buses To Concerts are running a return service from Belfast, Lisburn, Banbridge and Newry – as well as from Dundalk and Drogheda.

Portlaoise train station is the closest to the Electric Picnic festival site. It's a 20-minute drive from here to the festival venue at Stradbally Hall, Co Laois.

If you're travelling by this method, Martleys of Portlaoise are running a return shuttle bus service every half hour to and from the festival until the wee hours across the weekend – with no advance booking required.

Tickets are €7 each way, with buses running all day until late. More information on specific times can be found on their website.

EP weather forecast

The weather outlook for this year's Picnic is looking surprisingly rosy.

Friday is currently the only day that showers are predicted, which could arrive somewhere between 3pm and 6pm before clearing up again just in time for the headline acts.

On day one, temperatures are set to reach a high of 18 or 19 degrees by 2pm.

They'll be higher again on Saturday and Sunday, with maximum temperatures of 21 or 22 degrees in the afternoon.

Nights will naturally be a little chillier though, with temperatures dropping somewhere between 10 or 11 degrees at their lowest. So be sure to layer up for the evening and night-time activities.

Campsite opening times

General camping will open at 4pm on Thursday, 31 August for Early Entry pass holders only.

For everyone else, general camping opens at 9am on Friday, 1 September and closes at 1pm on Monday, 4 September.

You can arrive at any time during this window – campsites are staffed 24 hours a day.

As Electric Picnic is an over 18s event (with the exception of children 12 and below), be sure to bring ID to confirm your age if you think it'll be checked.

The essential items you need to bring with you are:

  • Layered clothing for all weather including a hat and raincoat

The countdown is well and truly on.

After a two-year hiatus, Irish festivals returned with a triumphant bang this summer – bigger and better than before. As the summer days tick on, eyes turn to the red letter weekend marked in many a calendar, Electric Picnic. Considered by many to be the final farewell to summer, the festival gives a great big glittery wave to the season and sashays away into autumn. And in an exciting addition to the 2022 incarnation of Electric Picnic, NOW is the official sponsor of the Ah, Hear NOW! stage, where you’ll be able to catch some of your favourite Irish and international podcasts live.

What’s the food and drink sitch like?

There are over 100 food stalls dotted around the festival, with everything from pie and mash to tacos for sale.

Is it sold out?

As it stands, Electric Picnic is completely sold out but fear not – NOW will be running competitions for those looking to nab some of the highly coveted tickets. Keep an eye on their socials for updates.

Yes, if you chose to retain your 2020/2021 tickets, they are valid for Electric Picnic 2022.

Food Stalls at Electric Picnic

Electric Picnic is strictly over 18s, with the exception of kids aged 12 and under who are accompanied by an adult.

Is it family-friendly?

Definitely, it’s widely considered to be one of the foremost family-friendly festivals. There are plenty of activities, and workshops for kids alongside a dedicated Family Campsite.

Is Electric Picnic accessible?

Yes, Electric Picnic is accessible, for the last 15 years festival organisers have partnered with Attitude is Everything, a charity set up to help improve deaf and disabled people’s access to live music, as well as to support the music industry in making live music events more accessible. electric picnic travel

Is there water at Electric Picnic?

There is free drinking water throughout the campsites and arena, typically found beside the toilet facilities. Festival goers are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle 500ml or less.

What should I pack for Electric Picnic?

Aside from the obvious bits like valid ID, your ticket, sleeping bag and tent, here are some of the things you could easily forget, but that will be lifesavers at the festival –

 1. C amping trolley – your body will thank you on the journey from the campsite to the car/bus.

2.   A pillow – if you can carry one, a pillow case stuffed with clothes if you can’t.

3. Earplugs –  hell hath no fury like neighbouring campers on the sesh for 72-hours-straight.

4. A fast-drying towel – if you’re committing to queuing for a shower, or a dip in the lake.

5. Face masks – anyone can benefit from a face mask, it’s as good as five hours solid sleep (in a bed, no less).

6. Face wipes – forget the 12-step cleanse routine, it ain’t happening.

7. Sliders/flip-flops – to throw on during those 6am jaunts to the toilet.

And there you have it, you’re all set. Good luck and god speed ahead of the return of one of Ireland’s most iconic festivals.

Electric Picnic 2024 cancelled rumours rubbished by organisers who say full line-up will be announced 'soon'

S ocial media rumours that Electric Picnic is cancelled have been squashed as organisers have confirmed that it will be going ahead.

As the line-up has not yet been announced and refugees are currently living on the festival's grounds in Stradbally, Co. Laois, there has been much speculation over whether the sold-out music festival has been scrapped.

In previous years the line-up was released in March and last year a full line-up wasn’t announced until late April. However, in December 2022, 10 months before its 2023 festival, 10 artists were announced including headliners Billie Eilish and Fred Again.

With the festival taking place two weeks earlier than usual on the third weekend of August, some ticket holders are disappointed that no artists have yet been announced.

Despite the speculation, a spokesperson for Electric Picnic has confirmed that it is “of course” going ahead this August. They added that the first line-up of artists will be announced “soon enough”, noting that last year’s line-up was released in April.

Stradbally is currently the biggest of five Designated Accommodation Centres in Ireland that provides 90 days of accommodation for new arrivals from Ukraine. It has a maximum capacity of 950 people in its “winter-ready accommodation” and has been taking in refugees since last December.

However, despite its large capacity, there are currently only 109 people staying at the refugee site in Stradbally, according to the Department of Integration. The accommodation consists of heated and insulated cabins that are enclosed within large marquee-type structures.

Before that, up to 500 refugees were accommodated in a tented facility at a different area of the site in September and October 2023. A spokesperson for the department confirmed that the accommodation site will be closed in June, two months before Electric Picnic is due to take place.

With a 75,000-person capacity, the Laois event is the biggest music and arts festival in the country. It has become increasingly popular over the last 10 years, with tickets selling out before the line-up has been announced.

For this year’s festival, tickets sold out just a week after the 2023 event finished.

Electric Picnic: download the map and get the first look at the site

Stage times, travel info, news, tips and treats – we’ve got all the best electric picnic bits.

electric picnic travel

This is your one-week warning. The biggest, best and last party of the summer is just seven days away. We can smell the excitement off you from here.

In this week's Ticket in print, you'll find our pre-festival special, but this is just the opening shot in our Electric Picnic coverage. From Monday, on irishtimes.com, we'll have the exclusive first look at this year's stage times, which we will be releasing throughout the week before anyone else.

No Clashfinder will be complete until you’ve seen it on our site first, so check in with us before you finalise your festival timetable.

Next week, we'll also be getting a tour of this year's festival site. For a first look at the official festival map, click here to download the PDF . And for a full video tour of EP, check out irishtimes.com on Tuesday afternoon, when we'll be onsite to see the final touches being applied to this year's arenas.

Next Friday, when most of you will be packing tents, cans and [redacted] into the back of your Fiat Punto, we will be firing up our live blog and reporting from Stradbally, Co Laois. So keep an eye on it for all the latest traffic and travel information, and the best bits of news, tweets and tips that we can find among the migrating masses.

Once you’re safely on site the games can begin. We’ll be in Stradbally all weekend, reporting, writing, previewing and partying (to the most professional standards, of course) with the Irish Times Electric Picnic team.

In a ritual that’s as ancient and traditional as the winter solstice, the Rose of Tralee or the drawing of the dole, we’ll be writing, editing and producing special editions of the Ticket from our trusty shed in the backstage area of the festival.

We’ll have a team of writers and reporters roaming the Laois hills, looking for your stories and gossip, so if you see us on site, come and say hello. On Saturday and Sunday, we’ll be distributing the special edition free all throughout the campsites and festival arenas. So if your story is a particularly good one, you can lord it over your mates when it appears in print as you’re getting stuck into the first breakfast roll of the day.

We’ll also be pitching up this year with our lovely friends in Trailer Park, with a little blue caravan packed with surprises for the weekend. Drop by and say hi, take a load off and we might throw you a goody bag or two to keep you motoring.

And then on Monday, when you're dying a death and wondering where it all went wrong, you can relive your festival experience in The Irish Times , and on our website, with all of our festival coverage from the weekend.

But hush child. Don’t speak of such hungover horrors. There’s an awful lot of fun to get through first. Pack sun cream. Tell your mother where you’re going. Only arrange to meet with friends who are actually fun. Don’t forget to charge your phone. And we’ll see you up the front, left-hand speaker for Floating Points.
