What are the Best Packing Cubes?

Table of contents.

Packing cubes are definitely worth a try. They changed the way I travel and allowed me to travel carryon only even though I was traveling long-term for months at a time.

While it’s possible to use Ziploc bags to store your clothing, actual packing organizers have several more benefits and don’t cost that much more money. Our readers love them and so do we!

We’ve compiled our list of the most recommended travel cubes based on our experience traveling with various brands in addition to featuring the ones our readers use, too.

Compass Rose Compression Packing Cubes

Best Packing Cubes for Carryon: Compass Rose

Compass Rose Carryon Packing Cubes  offer you a new, efficient way to organize your luggage. They have a unique color and number coded packing system that allows you to pack using one of my six one-of-a-kind packing strategies:  separate your belongings by color or by number , you’ll always know exactly where to find what you need.

Plus, they’re the only packing cubes with a length that  fit perfectly into a carryon suitcase . You can also stack them on top of each other like shelves or lay them flat on top of each other. They have a strong fabric that keeps their rectangular structure.

The fabric and quality zippers also help you  compress  your clothing to maximize space.

Our readers rave about them and say that they’re the best packing cubes. We have to agree. After all, we did design them!  Buy it here!

But you don’t have to take our word for it! TFG readers happily share their reviews on why their Compass Rose Packing Cubes were game changers for their travels!

eBags Packing Cubes – 6pc Set

Best Travel Cubes for Checked Luggage: eBags

eBags  has two types of packing cubes: their original type and the ones with their new ultralight fabric. Their original packing cubes are better than the new style because they have durable materials, strong mesh, and solid zippers. (The mesh on their ultralight style rips too easily for my liking.)

Our readers love their sets with multiple sizes to organize clothing when traveling with a larger suitcase.  Buy it here!

Creating the perfect interchangeable capsule wardrobe is the key to simplified packing.

Bagsmart Expandable Packing Cube Set

Best Cheap Packing Cubes: Bagsmart

Bagsmart Packing Cubes  offers an inexpensive organizational solution for budget-conscious travelers or those that are uncertain about making an investment to the banded products. They don’t offer the benefits of compression as the mesh isn’t strong enough to maintain the structure of the cube.

If you don’t travel often and are looking for cheap packing cubes, these are a good choice.  Buy it here!

Best Large Packing Cube Set: Shacke™ Pak

While I haven’t tried the  Shacke Pak  cubes, they are popular with budget-conscious readers that are looking for a larger set with mixed sizes. Because of their square shape and spacious design, these would work well in large suitcases for travelers looking to check their bags vs travel carry-on only. Buy it here!

Why are the Benefits of Using Packing Cubes?

These are my (and our readers’!) top 12 reasons why every traveler should use at least one packing cube:

Long-Lasting

I’ve had mine for over 3 years and use them almost daily. A reader also says, “Once you buy one (or a few), you’re set for years!”

Compression

You can use a small/slim packing cube to compress your clothing and travel for any trip with just a carry-on bag.

One reader says, “They literally weigh nothing. Not only do they keep you organized, but they also compress your items and let you pack more in less space. The Travel Fashion Girl set of packing cubes are great to start with!” Another says, “Packing cubes have changed the way I pack. They compress my things and force me to limit what I pack.”

Watch this packing video tutorial for more info.

Separate your clothing by bottoms/tops, travel outfits, or weather .

One reader says, “I bought TFG’s packing cubes, which fit my suitcase exactly. I now find I can get so much in it without being stuffed that I’m almost over the weight limit! They keep your bag neater and organized.” Another adds, “I am able to organize and keep things tiny in mine. It also gives me limits to stay in when packing.”

Find out how I used mine to travel carry-on only in Europe !

Color-code clothing by using different color organizers for each family member.

One reader says, “I like that I can designate a cube to me, another for my baby, and another for my husband. It makes things so much easier to find while traveling.” Another says, “You can organize them how you like – one for undies, one for tops, etc. Or you could use a cube for each outfit if you pack that way. My friend used to plan in advance every day’s outfit with the accessories and all!”

Ideal for organization/storage within a hotel/hostel when shelf space is limited.

A reader says, “I used to be the messiest packer. The cubes make me organized and I can find everything. At a hotel I just put my cubes in the dresser. I do feel like I can pack more with the cubes.”

Easy to Clean

Throw them in the wash (hang dry) after a trip or during for long term travels.

Versatility

Use them for clothing, shoes, electronics, and anything else you want to store.

One reader says, “Not only can you use them in your suitcase, but packing cube in your carryon tote helps me stay sane. I organize all of my technology into one packing cube, so I can grab my wallet without grabbing a cord, etc. They are incredibly versatile.”

Bag Support

Use packing cubes in any bag for a more organized solution. They’re great to use in big backpacks or totes that don’t have any interior pockets.

One reader says, “Packing cubes turn any bag into a good travel bag. A friend just used her large purse as a carry on for four days with one packing cube!” Another adds, “If you’re using a backpack, they’re especially good to use. With backpacks, you’re always digging around and ultimately messing up all the organization you took time to do before you left.”

Travel Pillow

On your flight, use a cube stuffed with clothing as a neck pillow.

One reader says, “I use one cube to pack all of my on-flight essentials, including a scarf, eye mask, and other items that will keep me comfortable on the plane.”

In-Flight Organization

Carry your travel comforts, like a neck pillow, scarf, sweater, or blanket.

One reader says, “Packing cubes also prevent woven clothing from turning into a huge wrinkled mess in your luggage. I use two full-size cubes – one for knits, one for wovens.”

Non-Travel Uses

One reader says, “I don’t like my clothes touching the bottoms of drawers so that’s why I just take the cubes from my suitcase into the drawers.” You can do the same at home for keeping dust off of items you don’t wear as frequently.

Use them at home for storage or to maximize limited closet space !

Environmentally Friendly

Better than using plastic bags!

One reader says, “I love my packing organizers. I used to use plastic bags, but now I don’t need to. I’m organized and can keep one full of toiletries ready to go.”

How to Use Packing Cubes

Use one packing cube to store the clothing for your hot weather destination and use the other for your cold weather destination. The third can be used for layering pieces. Create mini capsule wardrobes for each weather system.

Thank you, thank you and thank you for your valuable information. I have been a more organized traveler since I have been following your site. I truly appreciate all of the tips and downloads you provide. Sincerely, Korenna

I tried packing cubes after I had to travel carryon only and we had to share a normal suitcase for 3 people. I wish I had read your posts about them much earlier! It is SO easy to organize a suitcase with them and from first using them I was totally surprised that my suitcase was even easier to close.

I just tried ebags and can highly recommend them! Thank you for recommending packing cubes!

alex

That’s great to hear Diana! Glad you liked them 🙂

I love using packing cubes. My family thought I was crazy when I handed each of them a set to use for our 3 week trip to Ireland and Italy. They couldn’t believe how much they could pack. Everyone stayed organized throughout the trip and were able to find things easily! Thanks for the post.

Dale

My husband and I traveled full-time for 3 years with carry on rolling suitcases, I could not have done it without packing cubes. Love them.

I completely agree 🙂

I am going to London and Dublin for 8 days (my first time going out of the country). My goal is to pack light with only a carry on bag. I want to try packing cubes, what kind do you suggest for a plus sized woman?

Hi Tonia, I suggest the same for everyone: https://travelfashiongirl.com/packing-cubes-video-tutorial-learn-how-to-pack-light/

Find out why: https://travelfashiongirl.com/plus-size-packing-tips/

Laura

You’ve probably gone to London and Dublin by now but I hope this reply reaches you or other plus sized travelers! I like the packing cubes with more depth since I am plus sized too and I find that my shirts are longer and pants are wider, creating a thicker rolled garment. I look for 4″ depth or more since the packing cubes vary. Some are only 3″ which doesn’t cut it for thicker materials like knits and jeans (for me, anyway, at a size 20).

I love these tips! I’m trying to figure out which packing cubes would work best for me right now– which would you recommend, the Ebags version or the new Amazon Basics ones? I’m also not sure if the small, medium, or slim would work best for me. Thank you!!

Hi Amanda! I always vote for slim as they help you compress. I’d go with Amazon Basics because they’re almost the same as the eBags but Amazon gives you four for less money 🙂

Clariza

Just started using packing cubes and trying to get boyfriend to use them too. (I noticed on our last trip, he did use a small cube for toiletries on his own.)

I like to pack my clothes by complete outfits, even on long trips. I put everything from undies to bottoms to tops altogether. I like being able to just pull out a pre-planned outfit. Packing cubes have made this old habit even better. Now, I can pack outfits by weather, activity, etc. I just have to pull out the one cube I know has the outfit I want to wear. It also let’s me know when it’s time to do laundry as my stash of outfits dwindle.

Packing complete outfits is especially nice on camping trips when you can just pull out a rolled set of clothes each day or night, when it’s time to clean up and change.

Pre-planned outfits are a great idea! Love that you also include underwear with your clothing helping to cut down on having an individual cube just for undies. It took me four years to get my husband to use packing cubes. Now he travels with cubes PLUS the Pack Gear backpack organizer. Love it!

Nina

This was my second set of packing cubes – my fiance stole my first set because they are so useful. When traveling, they keep everything separate and can do double duty as laundry bags on the way back. When not traveling, I use them as a sweater box. Very useful.

My boyfriend has now also stolen a set of my packing cubes after refusing to use them for years – men!

Phebe Schwartz

Love love love packing cubes. I sort by season (or weather), so I have three. I also have little zippered bags for undies, toiletries, etc. – and yes, these squeeze into the packing cubes. Plus shoe bags. Everything is color coded so I can easily find what I need without digging through luggage. Saves time and frustration!

Depending on the trip I sort by weather, clothing category, or clean and dirty 😉

Jo

I like packing cubes, because they’re a good way to limit how much stuff you take!

I had two medium sized ebags and a slim one when I left on my trip in February. Throughout the trip, I was constantly donating or leaving behind clothes that didn’t fit the climate as well as I thought, or that I simply wasn’t wearing. By the end of the trip, I’d got rid of enough clothes that I only needed one of the mediums!

So now for future trips, I know not to take more than one medium ebag full, so it makes limiting my packing easier 😀

It’s funny how much you think you need to pack for a trip but when you’re on the road – the less you have the better! Glad you fund them as useful as I do 🙂

Heather of TravelingSaurus

I guess I’m what’s called a hoarder of packing cubes…I have Rick Steve’s, I have ebags, and I also have the eagle creek stuff sacks. Um, o.k. I do share these with my husband?!

I like ebags, a lot, and they compress really well. The only issue I have with them is when I pack too much in a duffel, it can make the duffel too “firm”, so that I can’t scrunch it into tight fitting spaces, as nothing inside can budge even a centimeter. I find that I do not have this problem with the eagle creek stuff sacks, as they are a bit less structured. The Rick Steve’s version has worked pretty well, but those puppies can expand to hold A LOT of stuff with the mesh, so don’t think that just because you can put everything in a packing cube means that you are packing light!

So I guess this is why I have all three…because I actually use all three, depending on the suitcase, trip location, etc. But in general, some type of packing cube is totally worth the investment. So much easier to pack, organize, and stay organized.

I’d be interested in anyone has tried the Flight001 spacepak bags…not like I need any more, though.

I love packing and travel gear too – I am definitely looking to try other types too – I’m planning a packing cube face off 😉

Mary

I love the packing cubes that Ikea sells. They are much less expensive than some of the others. I try to group clothes by activities, for example,my swimsuit, little skort, and beach slippers go in one,my dressy black top and two dressy scarves, plus appropriate costume jewelry go in another. They are not commonly used items, so I know to look for them at the bottom of the suitcase.

Lorraine

Just stumbled across your website and fell in love. I’m about to embark on my 1 year adventure to Australia in September and find the packing posts super helpful. I will definitely have to try out the ebag packing cubes!

Thank you! I hope you have a great trip 🙂

Samantha Kay

This post was really beneficial for me. I’ve been back and forth on whether I want to try packing cubes. I think it’s time to give them a try.

Great! Hope you like them as much as I do 🙂 Which ones are you going for?

June Starkey

I really like the idea of the packing cubes. I have purchased 3 but haven’t used them yet. My question is this: I am a 58 year old woman who will be traveling for 16 days through Europe in the Spring stopping in 7 countries. Does it make sense to pack in cubes since most of my stops will only be for one night? Is there a better way to pack? Do the clothes wrinkle? My clothes will be a little larger than those shown in the video. 🙂 I know to choose a color combination so I can mix and match m outfits. I plan on wearing one pair of shoes and packing one. I will also have a jacket since the low temps in some of the areas I will be traveling to can reach the 40’s. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

Packing organizers or cubes are always beneficial for every trip. Just place all your tops in one, bottoms in the other and pair things as you go. This post might also help you give you a few ideas on how to use them: https://travelfashiongirl.com/packing-cubes/

Anne

Packing cubes are like having drawers in your suitcase. Love them.

Yes I even use them at home too like drawers when I need extra storage space

KC King

I agree with the previous comments…. use your cubes as drawers. Bottoms in one, tops in another, underwear in another. I just finished my first three week trip in Europe at the age of 50. My pack was 17 pounds. Next time it will be lighter. Great trip. Minimal packing was gear!

Natalie

Love packing cubes! I use them as “drawers” to keep groups of clothing organized when traveling. I also use compression bags if the volume of clothing is a challenge. Compression bags make great dirty laundry bags too – limiting contamination of clean clothes!

That’s a great way to use them!

BevF

I love packing cubes. The eagle creek cubes are my fave. I have a question. The way you jam your clothes into the cubes don’t they come out all wrinkled? I pack mine much looser than you do because I am trying to keep them as wrinkle free as possible. What do you do to “dewrinkle” once you get to your destination? Even so called “wrinkle-free” clothing will get some wrinkles when they are jammed like that. Curious how you handle that.

For the most part I try to stick to fabrics that don’t wrinkle easily plus they tend to weigh less too. I hate wrinkles but hate ironing more so if fabric wrinkles easily, it’s usually a no-go in my wardrobe.

Packing cubes are hands down one the best travel hacks out there. Whether you’re a meticulous list-maker or planning procrastinator, investing in a set of packing cubes is a game changer for staying organized and saving space without having to put in too much effort.

At Travel + Leisure , we take our travel hacks seriously so we put 23 sets of regular and compression packing cubes to the test both in our New York City lab and out during real travels to find the best ones on the market. Our top pick is a set of four Gonex Compression Packing Cubes that thoroughly impressed us with the space saved thanks to the compression zippers on each cube. We understand that everyone has unique preferences so we also found picks for travelers embarking on long trips, outdoor adventurers, and minimalist packers looking for one single cube to do the trick.

Best Overall

Gonex compression packing cubes.

  • Capacity 5 /5
  • Design 5 /5
  • Quality 5 /5

The lightweight cubes easily compress clothing down to save space in a suitcase.

They repel some water but are not waterproof.

We love the Gonex Compression Packing Cubes thanks to their impressive space-saving ability. During six months of tests, we found these cubes to be monumentally helpful when it comes to consolidating and organizing clothing items between the different-sized cubes. The compression cubes help you get more items packed than a regular version of a packing cube and the sturdy zippers made compressing the packed cubes easy, leading us to believe that these cubes will last over time with the durable zippers and stitchwork.

Although the nylon material isn’t waterproof, we splashed a little water on the outside and found that the material repels some water (but the clothing should remain dry with the extra protection of a suitcase, too). Plus, the handles on the top of each cube make it easy to grab the bags for packing and unpacking, and we love that the set includes an extra-large, large, medium, and small bag for variety.

The Details: 3 or 4 bags included | 17.3 x 13 x 3.54 inches (extra large), 14.5 x 10.6 x 3.54 inches (large), 11.8 x 8.9 x 3.54 inches (medium), and 9.8 x 7.5 x 3.54 inches (small) | Ripstop nylon

Shacke Pak 5 Set Packing Cubes

 Amazon

  • Design 4 /5
  • Quality 4 /5

The set includes four cubes and a laundry bag.

The mesh tops aren’t waterproof or resistant.

Whether you’re traveling with family or heading on a solo trip , these Shacke packing cubes are a steal of a deal. The set includes extra-large, large, medium, and small packing cubes, as well as a laundry bag for dirty clothes. Designed for up to 14 days of traveling, we found that the cubes lived up to their promise of providing plenty of space for a variety of types of clothing like pants, toiletries, shirts, and jackets. The cubes easily fit in the carry-on suitcase we used and with the various sizes, you can customize how many cubes you want to pack depending on the type of suitcase you have.

While the cubes likely won’t prevent water from seeping through due to the mesh tops, you can easily see what you packed inside so you won’t have to unpack everything to find a piece of clothing. During our tests, we felt the durable nylon material and zippers will hold up well with prolonged use, and you can't beat the price for the full set either.

The Details: 5 bags included | 17.5 x 12.75 x 4 inches (extra large), 13.75 x 12.75 x 4 inches (large), 3.75 x 9.75 x 4 inches (medium), 11 x 6.75 x 4 inches (small), and 20.5 x 15.75 inches (laundry bag) | Nylon

Watch How We Test Travel Products

Best for long trips, veken packing cubes with laundry and shoe bag.

The set includes four packing cubes, a shoe bag, and a laundry bag.

These have to be hand-washed and air-dried.

If you’re traveling internationally or taking an extended vacation, consider picking up a set of these Veken packing cubes from Amazon. The four packing cubes are thoughtfully designed with a clear strip on the top so travelers can easily see what they packed, and there are small graphics printed onto each cube recommending what type of clothing item could be stored inside. This set also includes a shoe bag and a laundry bag so you can keep your items separated and organized. We like that there are several different sizes so you don't have small items moving around in a cube thats too big or trying to cram a larger sweatshirt into something too small.

We think these nylon and polyester packing cubes are made to last with a thick fabric exterior and sturdy zippers and stitchwork. After six months of use, there is no sign of wear and the zippers are holding up well. Although, we found the cubes to be slightly heavier than others we tested so keep that in mind if you’re an overpacker or striving to stay under the standard 50-pound limit for checked luggage.

The Details: 6 bags included | 17.5 x 12.15 x 4 (extra large), 13.75 x 12.75 x 4 inches (large), 3.75 x 9.75 x 4 inches (medium), 11 x 6.75 x 4 inches (small), 16.96 x 9.06 x 4.72 (shoe bag), and 20 x 14 inches (laundry bag) | Nylon, ethylene vinyl acetate, and polyester

Best Single Cube

Ebags classic medium compression cube.

It’s a compression packing cube that makes room for other items like shoes or a toiletry bag.

The compression zipper could snag a bit.

For travelers looking for a simple hack to make room in a suitcase, a single compression packing cube is the best bet. This option from eBags will save you nearly four inches of height thanks to a compression zipper that condenses the clothing packed inside the cube. In testing, we were thoroughly impressed with the cube’s ability to fit five clothing items and a bulky winter jacket. We love the size and versatility plus the lightweight material and handles makes it effortless to carry.

After six months of regularly using the bag, we noticed that the zipper sometimes snags if the cube isn’t packed full so you might find it easier to zip if you pack the cube to its maximum capacity. While most of the packing cubes we tested didn’t repel water, this one is made with a nylon material that proved to be water-resistant after splashing a bit of water on it. This single packing cube is ideal for frequent fliers or travelers simply looking to save space without investing in a set of packing cubes.

The Details: 14 x 10 x 1.5 inches | Nylon

Best for Camping

Rei co-op expandable packing cube set.

The tent-like material is lightweight and has a rugged look.

The mesh top doesn’t feel as durable as we hoped and these bags lose their shape when fully packed.

Outdoor enthusiasts should consider REI Co-op’s lightweight packing cubes for upcoming camping trips. The set of two comes with large and medium packing cubes that remain at the standard three-inch height or they can be expanded another three inches to double the capacity. After six months of regularly using the packing cubes, we found that all seams and zippers are holding up extremely well, even after packing heavy winter clothing.

In testing, the tent-like nylon proved to be water-resistant as advertised, however, the top of the cubes are made of a breathable mesh that doesn’t repel water and felt a little less sturdy than the nylon portion. Though the mesh top isn’t ideal for waterproofness, we like how easy it is to see what we packed through the little mesh holes. Plus, the lightweight materials are ideal for campers or backpackers looking to stay organized without sacrificing weight.

The Details: 2 bags included | 14.5 x 10.5 x 3 inches (large) and 12 x 8 x 3 inches (medium) | Ripstop nylon and polyester

Best Sustainable

Peak design packing cubes.

Peak Design

Peak Design uses 100 percent recycled materials to make the cubes.

The easy access zippers were finicky to use.

San Francisco-based Peak Design is known for its slew of sustainable outdoor gear made with carbon neutral and recycled materials, including their expandable packing cubes. We tried the small- and medium-sized cubes and found them to be spacious, well-built, and resistant to water after splashing a bit on the exterior. After regularly using the cubes for six months, we loved the capacity of the medium cube and found the smaller option to be good for packing undergarments or even toiletries. We especially love that the cubes are made from 100 percent recycled nylon that is solution-dyed to prevent excessive water use following the brand’s carbon neutral footprint, plus each bag expands to fit even more items.

The cubes can compress down to a height of 3.1 inches, but we found that they function best as an expandable packing cube that can increase in size, rather than a compression cube that is designed to heavily consolidate clothes. Additionally, the cubes feature an “easy access” zipper so travelers can reach inside the bag without opening the whole thing, but we think this feature is unnecessary to use due to the zipper getting snagged.

The Details: 1 bag included | Various sizes | Ripstop nylon

Best Personalized

Paravel packing cube quad.

  • Design 4.5 /5

The cubes can be monogrammed with up to three letters for an additional $25.

The large cube is so big it takes up most of the space of a carry-on bag.

Indulge your love for matching with this set of personalized packing cubes from Paravel. Although it costs an extra $25, you can get up to three letters embroidered onto the set of four packing cubes with 11 color options. If you're shopping for a stylish, functional personalized travel gift , this is a wonderful option. The set comes with one large, one medium, and two small-sized packing cubes that can hold an impressive amount of clothing and still fit in most carry-on bags. These cubes are great for any type of traveler, but especially for those looking for water-resistant cubes for checked bags that will be handled outside in different weather conditions. After six months of use, we found that these cubes provide exceptional organization with room to pack bulkier items in the larger bags and toiletries or undergarments between the two smaller cubes.

As an added bonus, these cubes won't take up much space in between trips. They're easy to store and stack right inside one another. The size variety is also convenient for different types of trips and we love having the option to use one, two, three, or all four bags in a checked bag if needed.

The Details: 4 bags included | 18 x 3.75 x 12 inches (large), 12.75 x 3.75 x 10 inches (medium), and 8.2 x. 3.75 x 6.25 inches (small) | Nylon

Calpak Packing Cubes 5-piece Set

There are 14 designs to choose from including groovy blue, retro sunset, and cheetah prints.

The set might be better suited for frequent fliers.

If you travel often and are looking to invest in a splurge-worthy set of packing cubes, you can’t go wrong with these from Calpak. We love the unique design options with 14 colors and patterns to choose from including classics like solid pink and gold marble, or limited-edition prints like a wavy retro sunset and groovy blue picks. The set includes one large, one medium, and two small cubes, as well as a water-resistant envelope for cosmetics.

After six months of using these packing cubes during international trips, we found that all the bags were spacious enough to fit a variety of clothing options for organized and efficient packing. We love the diversity of sizes to hold things like undergarments as well as shoes if needed. We also love the option to bring a folded large cube to keep dirty clothes separate. The polyester material feels well-made and built to last, and the zippers zipped without any issues which helps justify the higher price point for this set. And, if you’re traveling with your family, we think the set would be great for separating and organizing clothing for several travelers thanks to the removable identification tags where you can write what clothing went into each cube.

The Details: 5 bags included | 17 x 12 x 3 inches (large), 15 x 11 x 3 inches (medium), 12 x 8.8 x 3 inches (small), and 13 x 10 x 1.5 inches (envelope) | Polyester

Other Packing Cubes We Liked

There were several sets of packing cubes we highlighted below that almost made our list of best packing cubes, but they fell short during testing due some minor flaws we noticed.

Well Traveled Compression Packing Cubes : This set of compression packing cubes is great for budget-friendly travelers but our top pick is also a compression set that had a better overall performance in testing.

Lean Travel Premium Compression Packing Cubes : The set of three cubes is made with thick polyester that still feels lightweight, but besides that, there weren’t any standout features compared to our other top performers.

Briggs & Riley Packing Cubes : These cubes were spacious and water-resistant, but for $59, we expected a higher performance to match the price for three standard packing cubes.

Our testing experts spent a day in our New York City lab evaluating 23 sets of both compression and regular packings cubes based on traits like capacity, design, quality, and value using a rating scale of one to five.

First, we unpackaged the sets of packing cubes and examined the quality of the bags by twisting and pulling them to check the stitchwork, and using the zippers to see if they snagged or glided smoothly. The cubes with the highest quality ratings left us confident that the materials and stitching are built to last and withstand use over time. After packing the cubes with a variety of clothing items like pants, jackets, undergarments, and shirts, we placed the cubes in a carry-on suitcase to see how well they fit in a piece of luggage. Our top contenders for capacity and design provided plenty of space for a range of clothing items with useful and thoughtful features that made packing easier and more organized.

For compression-specific packing cubes, we paid close attention to how much space the packing cube saved once we zipped the compression zippers. And for all cubes, we splashed a bit of water on the exterior and felt the inside to see if any of the packed contents were damp or wet. Lastly, we were unaware of the price and only saw after testing was complete where they judged the value of each packing cube set. The sets with the highest values performed as advertised or better, and left our testers satisfied with the cost or willingness to pay even more for the cubes.

After testing each set of cubes in our lab, we sent them home to be tested during real travels around the world for a period of six months. We regularly collected insights on durability, functionality, and overall quality during this period to ensure each cube continued to impress.

Tips for Buying Packing Cubes

Compare compression versus regular packing cubes.

Compression packing cubes are designed to condense clothing by using the compression zipper to pack down the clothes in order to save space in a suitcase. Regular packing cubes are mainly for organizing clothes efficiently rather than consolidating clothing to make more room in a piece of luggage. Compression packing cubes can usually be expanded or compressed which gives travelers the best of both worlds.

Consider the type of luggage you use

For travelers who usually use checked luggage, consider purchasing a set with five or six cubes included so you can maximize space in each suitcase. And, if you’re a carry-on-only type of traveler, one or two packing cubes in small or medium sizes could be better suited for your needs, and you won’t have to worry about storing of a large set either. Backpackers or campers should consider getting just one or two compression or regular cubes that can fit in a backpack or weekender bag for lighter packing .

Look for sets that include multiple sizes

One of the best parts about packing cubes is staying organized on the go with little effort. To help you keep like items together, consider buying a set of multiple packing cubes with different sizes. That way, you can know without opening the case what cube holds your pants, your shirts, your undergarments, and more. The various size options also let you mix and match the cubes to fit whatever luggage you're bringing from weekender duffles to large checked bags.

Flexible fabrics like nylon or polyester are best for packing cubes as they'll allow you to pack the most items. These materials also tend to be water-resistant, keeping your items extra safe throughout your travels.

When it comes to saving space, experts say you can fold your clothes or roll them — it ultimately doesn’t matter. The most important thing is maximizing your space, and packing cubes are great for doing just that. Besides saving space, packing cubes can help you stay organized before and during your trip making them a must-have travel organizer .

To choose the right amount of packing cubes in a set, consider several factors like how often you travel, what kind of suitcase you use, and how organized you prefer to be. Some travelers might like sets that include four packing cubes plus laundry and shoe bags, and others might prefer just one or two cubes for a carry-on or weekender bag.

Are Packing Cubes Worth It?

If you’re someone who struggles with overpacking or organization while packing essentials for your trips, a packing cube set may be a great investment. “This tool is a great way to ensure your items are categorized by type, helps you avoid overpacking, and keeps your items in order,” say Michaela and Zoe Katz.

While many packing cubes offer smaller bags that can double as a makeup bag, you’re better off using one of the best makeup organizers and the best men’s toiletry bags , which were designed specifically for easy travel, and make perfect gifts for those messy friends (we all have them).

Still wondering how packing cubes may benefit you? This viral TikTok video may help you understand how packing cubes can get your suitcase more streamlined and organized.

What To Look For in the Best Packing Cubes

Your needs will determine the right set of packing cubes for you. If you’re someone who can’t imagine traveling anywhere without their toiletries, finding a set that has a dedicated cosmetics bag may be key for you.

“Our favorite sets are ones that come with multiple sizes. We like to have smaller packing cubes for socks and intimates, whereas some other items need larger cubes, so having versatile sizes is what we look for. We [also] think that having durable packing cubes is the ideal,” says Michaela and Zoe Katz.

Another thing to consider? Prioritizing function over fashion. “With anything, most people buy for beauty over function,” says Jacobs. “It is important to read reviews before you purchase anything and remember that not everything has to look good for it to work well.“

If you’re someone who finds themselves bringing an abundance of options or if you’re headed to a colder location that may require layers of clothing, finding cubes that offer compression features, which reduce unnecessary bulk, in a variety of larger sizes may suite your needs best.

Luckily, as the demand for different types of packing cubes has increased, so has the variety on the market. Many sets have a range of sizes, and some even offer drawstring laundry bags, ensuring your dirty clothing stays away from your clean clothing.

How to Use Packing Cubes for Travel

“Two of the biggest packing mistakes when it comes to packing are overpacking and not taking enough time to review your daily outfits. Plan in advance!” recommends Jacobs. “Another mistake is to not utilize the entire space of the suitcase, such as travel shoes being placed on the perimeter of the interior.”

One of the most common questions many new cube adoptees ask? How to avoid excessive wrinkles whilst packing.

“We recommend rolling items when you pack in cubes,” Jacobs offers. “Not only does this help prevent wrinkles, but it makes it so you can see all of your items from the top. When you stack your clothing, you have to leaf through it to see what is at the bottom.”

Another pro tip? Jacobs recommends use lightweight packing paper to separate garments to reduce wrinkles.

Michaela and Zoe Katz echo similar sentiments, adding that it “is inevitable that wrinkles will appear, so we would recommend packing a wrinkle spray.”

We like this one  from the Laundress to keep your pieces looking fresh.

With bulkier garments that can often can take up a lot of space in a suitcase, Michaela and Zoe recommend laying them at the top of the cube. “It defeats the purpose if you were to fill a packing cube with one bulky item, therefore, laying it on top would be the best way.”

Sold as a convenient set of five, these Calpak packing cubes are designed to hold everything you'll need for a trip away. The set includes one large, one medium and two small cubes as well as a zippered pouch for toiletries. Multiple GH editors swear by these cubes, and one said, "They really hold everything I need, keeping my suitcase organized (for once)."

One GH analyst used these cubes on a two-week trip to Japan and said, "These packing cubes helped me keep all my clothes organized when overpacking my carry-on. I appreciated that the sturdy material maintained its shape when I placed the cubes in my hotel drawers."

Each cube has a tab, so you can label it with what's inside; plus, they're mesh on top, so it's easy to see their contents. Calpak is known for its stylish travel solutions, and these don't disappoint. This set is currently available in 17 colors and patterns, including polka dots, cheetah print, florals and checkerboard. Complete your set with shoe packing cubes and compression cubes that make great companions for checked luggage.

Amazon Basics 4-Piece Packing Travel Organizer Cubes Set

4-Piece Packing Travel Organizer Cubes Set

This four-piece packing cube set from Amazon Basics gets you everything you'll need for your trip at the great price of about $6 per cube. And you can choose the size of the pieces that come in your set: either four small, four medium, four large or four slim or one of each.

In our Lab testing, we appreciated that each cube has a mesh upper to easily see what's inside and top handles for easy carrying . The polyester material is super lightweight and the zippers have longer tabs than some others we tested making them easy to open and close. The cubes held an impressive amount of clothing in our packing test and they stacked nicely into a carry-on suitcase.

We noticed some loose threads when evaluating these cubes, so they may not be as durable as some other options. Note that this set is spot-clean only and not machine-washable.

Eagle Creek Pack-It Set of Isolate Compression Packing Cubes

Pack-It Set of Isolate Compression Packing Cubes

If you really want to maximize your packing space, compression packing cubes are the way to do it. In our Lab analysis, these cubes from Eagle Creek zipped down to compress about 1 inch to save more space in your suitcase. "I love their compression function," said one of our testers. "They fit a decent amount of clothing and then compress to take up much less space. They're also smaller than other cubes I've had, so they slot into a smaller carry-on suitcase with ease."

We found the zippers easier to use than those on other compression packing cubes we tested. One tester agreed, saying, " The compression function is really easy to use — the zipper is pretty seamless and doesn't snag or get caught on the cubes. " The top handle is convenient to pull them out of your luggage or backpack when needed. This set is one of the pricier styles we tested, but many GH analysts have owned Eagle Creek products for years and applaud the brand's commitment to durable and long-lasting travel gear.

Gonex Compression Packing Cubes

Compression Packing Cubes

These Gonex packing cubes compress your clothes, so you can fit as much as possible in your suitcase, and th ey are a more affordable alternative to Eagle Creek at just $22 for a three-piece set. A set of six is also available if you plan on checking a bag. The larger set includes a laundry bag to keep your dirty clothes separate on long trips. The brand recommends rolling your clothes before placing them in the cube to maximize space.

We haven't tested this set in our Lab yet, but we have received promising feedback from our at-home testers. One tester who has used these cubes on multiple vacations said: "I loved the compression aspect and how you can fit so much more because of it. They are also very large cubes. I am very happy with them and will continue to use [them]."

Away The Insider Packing Cubes

The Insider Packing Cubes

Mesh packing cubes allow you to easily see inside and have the added bonus of being lightweight and breathable to keep your clothes fresh. Designed specifically for the mega-popular Away Carry-On , these cubes are the perfect dimensions for most carry-on suitcases. In our Lab analysis, these cubes were a favorite for being simple and easy to use, and of course, fitting nicely into a carry-on.

One tester who used this set on a trip to the Hamptons said, "The mesh made it easy to compact clothes into the packing cubes as the mesh let out any trapped in air. I also liked the configuration of the packing cubes. They fit together really well inside my suitcase." We love Away’s generous 100-day return policy , so there’s no harm in trying them out. Both the 4-piece and 6-piece sets include smaller cubes, but some testers wished they were larger.

Shacke Packing Cube Set

Packing Cube Set

With over 21,000 reviews and an average 4.8-star rating on Amazon, these packing cubes are popular for their easy-to-use design that's perfect when traveling with the whole family. These packing cubes are available in 10 colors, so each family member can have their own set . This set includes a laundry bag, which is a game-changer to keep dirty clothes separate.

Although we haven't tested this set in our Lab yet, online reviewers are extremely impressed with the quality of this set for the price. One online reviewer said, "The material used for the packing cubes is durable and lightweight, ensuring that they do not add unnecessary weight to my luggage. They are also quite flexible, which allows me to squeeze them into tight spaces within my suitcase without worrying about them getting damaged." Another shared, "They are worth every penny and have become an essential travel accessory for me."

Beis The Packing Cubes in Black

The Packing Cubes in Black

Many testers preferred packing cube sets that included shoe bags or laundry bags, like this set from Beis. With three different-size cubes, a toiletry pouch and two shoe bags, this set is ready for any vacation. Uniquely, they come with pre-printed labels for common items like jeans, swimsuits and underwear as well as the days of the week to keep your cubes organized.

One tester said, "The larger zip bags really helped me separate nice clothes for going out from my beach clothes/comfy clothes, which made getting ready much easier since I could find everything without unpacking my entire suitcase." While testers liked the shoe bags, some wished they were bigger to fit larger sizes and bulkier shoes like booties.

Sea to Summit Hydraulic Packing Cube

Hydraulic Packing Cube

Keeping your belongings dry and clean is of the utmost importance when heading on an outdoor adventure. In our tests, these Sea to Summit cubes held up on hikes and beach vacations alike.

Sold individually, these packing cubes feature a water-resistant exterior and tight zippers to help prevent water from seeping in. Because the zippers are designed to prevent leaking, they were a bit difficult to open and close in our tests. Note that these cubes are water-resistant (not waterproof!), so they should not be fully submerged or soaked in water.

A big fan of its water-resistant capabilities, one tester said these cubes are "great for when I have to pack away wet or dirty clothes when I am leaving a vacation." She also appreciated that she was able to easily see inside because of the translucent panel. Another tester said, "The textile is indeed water-resistant, which was a nice feature to have during my outdoor camping adventure," and that the "shell is quite durable." These don't compress, so if you want both weatherproof materials and compression, we recommend Peak Design's packing cubes .

Monos Compressible Packing Cubes

Compressible Packing Cubes

Available in sets of four or six, these cubes from Monos fit very well into our carry-on suitcase during our Lab evaluations. These cubes offer compression capabilities as well, and they reduced in size the most out of all the compression packing cubes we tested . The zippers are quite stiff, so it's challenging to compress them fully, which led some testers not to use the compression function at all. We also found the smooth material easy to clean, which is great if sand, dirt and salt water are a factor.

One tester shared, " I really liked the appearance of the packing cubes; they look simple and sleek. I enjoy the mesh top window because I can easily see my belongings and because it allows my clothes to breathe (especially useful for dirty clothes during travel)." He also said, "I appreciate the lightweight lining inside the packing cubes; it is a feature that elevates the appearance and quality of the packing cubes." These cubes are more expensive than other featured styles, but we think they are worth the investment.

Baggu Packing Cube Set

Packing Cube Set

Most packing cubes are only available in solid colors, but these trendy ones from Baggu come in fun patterns like stripes, florals and fruit prints . This set includes two packing cubes made from durable recycled nylon. We were impressed by just how lightweight these cubes are without sacrificing performance — every ounce counts! When evaluating these cubes in our Lab, we noticed they were a bit noisy (and a few testers noted the same thing).

Loving the stylish colors and patterns, one tester said, "Not only are they super cute but they are lightweight and durable. The amount you can fit in these packing cubes is amazing!" Another tester said, "I will definitely continue to use these cubes as I like them better than a set I bought off of Amazon years ago — Baggu strikes again!"

How we test packing cubes

a good housekeeping analyst testing packing cubes with a standard load of clothes in the textiles lab, good housekeeping's best packing cubes

When evaluating packing cubes, Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab pros place a standard packing load in each cube to see how much they can hold. Then, we place them in a suitcase to see how easy they are to organize. We analyze each cube in our Lab to ensure all the zippers are easy to open and close. For compression-style cubes, we pack them with a standard load and measure how much they reduce in size when compressed.

To get real-use feedback, we have consumer testers use the packing cubes on real-life trips. We had testers bring these cubes all over the world on all types of vacations, including camping trips, international getaways and local excursions.

How to choose the best packing cubes:

line break

✔️ Compression vs. regular packing cubes: Some packing cubes have compression capabilities and others don't. Cubes that compress take up slightly less space in your suitcase and are great for overpackers. Generally, compression cubes are more expensive because they have two zippers instead of one and are usually sold individually or as a pair vs. in a larger set. Some compression cubes zip all the way around, which is great if you like to place your cubes directly in the drawer at your destination, while others only open at the top.

✔️ Materials: To avoid extra weight in your luggage, most packing cubes are made with lightweight materials like nylon and mesh. While waterproof capabilities may sound like a benefit, it's probably not necessary unless you're camping, and it comes at a cost — fully sealed packing cubes don't allow for ventilation, which means your clothes may have an odor after travel.

✔️ Luggage compatibility: Depending on what type of suitcase you are using (weekender bag, carry-on or checked luggage), a different style of packing cubes might be better suited.

  • For a weekender bag , opt for smaller cubes as only two to three will fit in most weekender bags.
  • Carry-on suitcases can accommodate more cubes, including larger ones for sweaters and jeans.
  • When checking a larger suitcase , you can fit multiple sets of packing cubes. We recommend using a different color set of cubes for each member of your family for easier unpacking.

✔️ Value: Consider the cost per cube when purchasing a set. Some brands offer excellent value for their larger sets.

a good housekeeping analyst evaluating a compression packing cube, good housekeeping's best packing cubes

✔️ How do I use packing cubes?

Most sets come with different-sized cubes that are designed for certain items — small cubes for your underwear and larger cubes for shirts and pants, for example. Everyone has a preference for either rolling or folding clothes , but when packing in a cube, our pros say you should roll to avoid wrinkles. Rolling likely won't save as much space in a traditional packing cube, but many brands recommend it for compression picks. Doing this, and storing like items together, will make it much easier to find exactly what you want without rummaging through your bag. ✔️ Do packing cubes really save space? Yes! Packing cubes ensure that every item has a spot in your suitcase without it bursting at the seams. To further max out every inch, look for styles with compression. These work by having two zippers — one that closes the cube and a second that tightly compresses it to flatten your clothes and save space. ✔️ Do packing cubes wrinkle clothes? One of the main reasons clothes come out of your suitcase looking wrinkly is because they've shifted around during the trip. Packing cubes keep all your clothes still, so items are actually less likely to wrinkle. Some fabrics will wrinkle no matter what (hello, linen!), so we recommend choosing travel dresses and pants in more forgiving fabrics like polyester and Tencel for your next trip.

Overpackers Rely on These ‘Handy’ Packing Cubes to Organize Suitcase Chaos — and They’re Less Than $2 Apiece

“I will never travel without these organizer bags again”

fashion travel girl packing cubes

Packing cubes can turn suitcase chaos into neat and tidy stations for clothing, accessories, and toiletries.

More than 20,000 Amazon shoppers picked up this Bagail Packing Cube Set this month — and it’s on sale now for $15 thanks to a stackable coupon. The packing cubes have earned thousands of positive ratings, with one reviewer even raving , “I will never travel without these organizer bags again. They are so handy.”

The eight-piece set includes one medium, large, and extra large organizer, one cosmetics case, plus bags for underwear, socks, and shoes. There’s also a drawstring laundry bag for dirty clothes, which can also be used for other miscellaneous gear you’d like to pack for your journey. All other bags are secured with zip closures to prevent their contents from spilling.

Even better, the bags are also made from durable material that’s rip-resistant and waterproof, according to the brand. Plus, they have breathable mesh tops that allow you to see your belongings inside. There’s no need to wrestle through each bag to find that go-to tee or pair of jeans — simply take a peak and leave all of the other cubes be.

The packing cubes allow you to use up more suitcase real estate, all while keeping your essentials organized. You can compress any air out of them before closing them to ensure they’re packed to their fullest and most efficient potential.

“I'm an over-packer — I admit it,” another shopper shared in their review. “My suitcase will always start out organized, but by the end of a trip, it's utter chaos. These cubes have not only helped with suitcase organization, but for overall accountability on what I actually need to bring.”

Another wrote , “They helped maximize the space in my suitcase and kept everything wrinkle-free.” They added, “The cubes are lightweight and easy to pack and unpack.”

Make traveling easier this spring and summer and grab the customer-loved Bagail Packing Cube Set while it’s on super sale at Amazon now.

' class=

We're arriving next Friday.

Would you say it's feeling "Spring-like" yet, or is it still feeling like WINTER?!!

Is there still snow on the ground? A little? A lot? Are the sidewalks clear?

I'm thinking I will pack my black wool peacoat (about right for temperatures near freezing and a bit below) + scarf + light gloves.

For footwear I think I will bring my "sturdy walking shoes". They are leather and have thick soles to lift me up above slushy or moderately snowy conditions (a few centimeters).

Is the ground SO wet that I would risk soaking my shoes and needing a second pair? (We tend to pack VERY light!)

Is there so much snow/slush on the sidewalks that I would need snow boots or hiking boots (these aren't as comfortable to me for walking).

My teen son is thinking to bring bother sneakers with thick soles, and a pair of hiking boots. Good idea? Hiking boots not needed?

He's also planning on bringing a medium/lighter weight wool coat. Should I make him bring his honest-to-goodness "Winter" coat? (it's a ski jacket)

The temps have been oscillating around zero celsius and it has been snowing very heavily in the last couple of days. The sidewalks look like streams of water running through the slush. There is a risk of soaking your boots but it can be minimized by looking where you place your feet and making kangaroo-like skips across the streams every now and then :)

If the forecast is correct, it's going to be colder in a week from now, around -3 during the day falling to -10 or more by night.

That's good news about the temperatures! We would rather it was cold and snowy instead of warmer-ish and rainy. I'm sure it will be gorgeous if it's snowing. :)

Thanks, I'll keep watching the weather. One day it's saying it's warmer, then the next it's saying it's going to be colder.

AND we'll pack the warmer coats and bring an extra pair of shoes/boots.

St. Petersburg about the same?

fashion travel girl packing cubes

I always say. Take cloths for all conditions as one day can be fine, and the next cold as ???? I think the most important thing to take is a good quality water proof wind breaking lined jacket. The wind can really wip it's self up, and can bring rain/ice with it. AIM.

I don't think I actually own a rainjacket that would fit over winter weight clothes. How about an umbrella? :D

(I'm doomed)

Thank you, Marassa!

We have layers, with the top being winter coats (but not our heaviest) and umbrellas (we always travel with our GOOD LUCK umbrellas.....bring them along and don't need them, so let's hope they work this time!) :)

Please make it snow! We'd prefer snow to rain!

> Please make it snow!

I'll try my best! ;)

My teen son and I are also going this week, we leave fri am and get in Sat am, thanks for asking as I was wondering the same thing and only like to travel with carry ons:)

Marassa is right. The only problem at this time of year is slush, not wind/rain

or cold. No need to pack too many things. A rainproof jacket /windcheater that can handle is 0 ish (Centigrade) temperature is fine.

because its more humid.

Snow, winds send Moscow girls packing

While the weather forecast called for rain, snow and high winds in the region, Moscow High girls basketball coach Lisa Carscallen was dealing with the fallout of her team’s season ending without losing on the court.

Overnight snow and high winds that caused drifting on outlying roads forced the Moscow School District to call off classes Thursday. The Moscow girls were scheduled to travel to Sandpoint for a 4A Region I loser-out game that was postponed Wednesday – the fifth time since the tournament began Jan. 29 that a game pitting Moscow at Sandpoint had been postponed. Four times last week the tourney opener between the teams had to be rescheduled.

Moscow officials decided to forfeit Thursday’s game because the state-qualifying tournament, with the possibility of two more games, must be finished by Saturday. The Moscow-Sandpoint winner originally was scheduled to play at Lakeland on Thursday to decide the regional title and the lone state berth. But the game was moved to tonight after the loser-out game was postponed Wednesday in hopes Moscow and Sandpoint could play Thursday. Moscow officials waited until 11 a.m. Thursday before deciding to forfeit.

“The story I was told is there’s a wind advisory north of Coeur d’Alene for high-profiled vehicles (into the evening),” Moscow coach Lisa Carscallen said. “The girls are devastated.”

Moscow’s season ends with a 0-22 record. But Carscallen said her team’s record doesn’t reflect how competitive the Bears had been with Sandpoint (9-14) and Lakeland (6-14). Sandpoint defeated Moscow in a regional opener last Saturday 53-41. Moscow fell behind by 12 points early in the second quarter, but Carscallen said the game was even after that.

In regular-season games, Sandpoint beat Moscow 46-31 and 56-41 and Moscow lost to Lakeland 58-53 and 65-58 in overtime at Lakeland.

“Our record, I think, played into the decision,” Carscallen said. “We should have gone (to Sandpoint) Wednesday. We don’t have a great record, but we weren’t blown out by Lakeland or Sandpoint. The girls were looking forward to going back to Sandpoint and playing a better game than they did Saturday. It’s unfortunate that they didn’t get a say in the end of their season. It’s not like it was a foregone conclusion that we weren’t going to compete.”

Sandpoint coach Jim Alsager said the regional tourney format must be changed.

“The real shame of the whole situation is it’s ridiculous to have a true double-elimination tournament for three teams that are separated by such distance,” Alsager said. “Philosophically, I’m against the current format. You play for 2 1/2 months (regular season). We need to make it worth more.”

Sandpoint must win tonight at Lakeland to force another game on Saturday.

•The 1A District I tournament was scheduled to be played Thursday, but the games had to be postponed because of too much snow on the roof at Timberlake High in Spirit Lake. The 1A schools were told Timberlake couldn’t be used through the weekend.

Tournament director Doug Napierela, Kootenai’s athletic director, scrambled to find an alternate site. The tourney will resume tonight and conclude at Kellogg High.

“We called everywhere in the Coeur d’Alene area, but we couldn’t find a gym,” Napierela said.

The schedule tonight has No. 2 Lakeside (9-9) facing No. 4 Clark Fork (11-10) in a loser-out game at 6, followed by No. 1 Kootenai (7-12) taking on No. 3 Wallace (5-13) in the district title game at 7:30.

•One boys game – Bonners Ferry at St. Maries – was postponed Thursday. It will be made up tonight, beginning at 6:30.

The Comprehensive Guide to Moscow Nightlife

  • Posted on April 14, 2018 July 26, 2018

fashion travel girl packing cubes

Moscow’s nightlife scene is thriving, and arguably one of the best the world has to offer – top-notch Russian women, coupled with a never-ending list of venues, Moscow has a little bit of something for everyone’s taste. Moscow nightlife is not for the faint of heart – and if you’re coming, you better be ready to go Friday and Saturday night into the early morning.

This comprehensive guide to Moscow nightlife will run you through the nuts and bolts of all you need to know about Moscow’s nightclubs and give you a solid blueprint to operate with during your time in Moscow.

What you need to know before hitting Moscow nightclubs

Prices in moscow nightlife.

Before you head out and start gaming all the sexy Moscow girls , we have to talk money first. Bring plenty because in Moscow you can never bring a big enough bankroll. Remember, you’re the man so making a fuzz of not paying a drink here or there will not go down well.

Luckily most Moscow clubs don’t do cover fees. Some electro clubs will charge 15-20$, depending on their lineup. There’s the odd club with a minimum spend of 20-30$, which you’ll drop on drinks easily. By and large, you can scope out the venues for free, which is a big plus.

Bottle service is a great deal in Moscow. At top-tier clubs, it starts at 1,000$. That’ll go a long way with premium vodka at 250$, especially if you have three or four guys chipping in. Not to mention that it’s a massive status boost for getting girls, especially at high-end clubs.

Without bottle service, you should estimate a budget of 100-150$ per night. That is if you drink a lot and hit the top clubs with the hottest girls. Scale down for less alcohol and more basic places.

Dress code & Face control

Door policy in Moscow is called “face control” and it’s always the guy behind the two gorillas that gives the green light if you’re in or out.

In Moscow nightlife there’s only one rule when it comes to dress codes:

You can never be underdressed.

People dress A LOT sharper than, say, in the US and that goes for both sexes. For high-end clubs, you definitely want to roll with a sharp blazer and a pocket square, not to mention dress shoes in tip-top condition. Those are the minimum requirements to level the playing field vis a vis with other sharply dressed guys that have a lot more money than you do. Unless you plan to hit explicit electro or underground clubs, which have their own dress code, you are always on the money with that style.

Getting in a Moscow club isn’t as hard as it seems: dress sharp, speak English at the door and look like you’re in the mood to spend all that money that you supposedly have (even if you don’t). That will open almost any door in Moscow’s nightlife for you.

Types of Moscow Nightclubs

In Moscow there are four types of clubs with the accompanying female clientele:

High-end clubs:

These are often crossovers between restaurants and clubs with lots of tables and very little space to dance. Heavy accent on bottle service most of the time but you can work the room from the bar as well. The hottest and most expensive girls in Moscow go there. Bring deep pockets and lots of self-confidence and you have a shot at swooping them.

Regular Mid-level clubs:

They probably resemble more what you’re used to in a nightclub: big dancefloors, stages and more space to roam around. Bottle service will make you stand out more but you can also do well without. You can find all types of girls but most will be in the 6-8 range. Your targets should always be the girls drinking and ideally in pairs. It’s impossible not to swoop if your game is at least half-decent.

Basic clubs/dive bars:

Usually spots with very cheap booze and lax face control. If you’re dressed too sharp and speak no Russian, you might attract the wrong type of attention so be vigilant. If you know the local scene you can swoop 6s and 7s almost at will. Usually students and girls from the suburbs.

Electro/underground clubs:

Home of the hipsters and creatives. Parties there don’t mean meeting girls and getting drunk but doing pills and spacing out to the music. Lots of attractive hipster girls if that is your niche. That is its own scene with a different dress code as well.

What time to go out in Moscow

Moscow nightlife starts late. Don’t show up at bars and preparty spots before 11pm because you’ll feel fairly alone. Peak time is between 1am and 3am. That is also the time of Moscow nightlife’s biggest nuisance: concerts by artists you won’t know and who only distract your girls from drinking and being gamed. From 4am to 6am the regular clubs are emptying out but plenty of people, women included, still hit up one of the many afterparty clubs. Those last till well past 10am.

As far as days go: Fridays and Saturdays are peak days. Thursday is an OK day, all other days are fairly weak and you have to know the right venues.

The Ultimate Moscow Nightclub List

Short disclaimer: I didn’t add basic and electro clubs since you’re coming for the girls, not for the music. This list will give you more options than you’ll be able to handle on a weekend.

Preparty – start here at 11PM

Classic restaurant club with lots of tables and a smallish bar and dancefloor. Come here between 11pm and 12am when the concert is over and they start with the actual party. Even early in the night tons of sexy women here, who lean slightly older (25 and up).

The second floor of the Ugolek restaurant is an extra bar with dim lights and house music tunes. Very small and cozy with a slight hipster vibe but generally draws plenty of attractive women too. A bit slower vibe than Valenok.

Very cool, spread-out venue that has a modern library theme. Not always full with people but when it is, it’s brimming with top-tier women. Slow vibe here and better for grabbing contacts and moving on.

fashion travel girl packing cubes

High-end: err on the side of being too early rather than too late because of face control.

Secret Room

Probably the top venue at the moment in Moscow . Very small but wildly popular club, which is crammed with tables but always packed. They do parties on Thursdays and Sundays as well. This club has a hip-hop/high-end theme, meaning most girls are gold diggers, IG models, and tattooed hip hop chicks. Very unfavorable logistics because there is almost no room no move inside the club but the party vibe makes it worth it. Strict face control.

Close to Secret Room and with a much more favorable and spacious three-part layout. This place attracts very hot women but also lots of ball busters and fakes that will leave you blue-balled. Come early because after 4am it starts getting empty fast. Electronic music.

A slightly kitsch restaurant club that plays Russian pop and is full of gold diggers, semi-pros, and men from the Caucasus republics. Thursday is the strongest night but that dynamic might be changing since Secret Room opened its doors. You can swoop here but it will be a struggle.

fashion travel girl packing cubes

Mid-level: your sweet spot in terms of ease and attractiveness of girls for an average budget.

Started going downwards in 2018 due to lax face control and this might get even worse with the World Cup. In terms of layout one of the best Moscow nightclubs because it’s very big and bottle service gives you a good edge here. Still attracts lots of cute girls with loose morals but plenty of provincial girls (and guys) as well. Swooping is fairly easy here.

I haven’t been at this place in over a year, ever since it started becoming ground zero for drunken teenagers. Similar clientele to Icon but less chic, younger and drunker. Decent mainstream music that attracts plenty of tourists. Girls are easy here as well.

Sort of a Coyote Ugly (the real one in Moscow sucks) with party music and lots of drunken people licking each others’ faces. Very entertaining with the right amount of alcohol and very easy to pull in there. Don’t think about staying sober in here, you’ll hate it.

Artel Bessonitsa/Shakti Terrace

Electronic music club that is sort of a high-end place with an underground clientele and located between the teenager clubs Icon and Gipsy. Very good music but a bit all over the place with their vibe and their branding. You can swoop almost any type of girl here from high-heeled beauty to coked-up hipsters, provided they’re not too sober.

fashion travel girl packing cubes

Afterparty: if by 5AM  you haven’t pulled, it’s time to move here.

Best afterparty spot in terms of trying to get girls. Pretty much no one is sober in there and savage gorilla game goes a long way. Lots of very hot and slutty-looking girls but it can be hard to tell apart who is looking for dick and who is just on drugs but not interested. If by 9-10am you haven’t pulled, it is probably better to surrender.

The hipster alternative for afterparties, where even more drugs are in play. Plenty of attractive girls there but you have to know how to work this type of club. A nicer atmosphere and better music but if you’re desperate to pull, you’ll probably go to Miks.

Weekday jokers: if you’re on the hunt for some sexy Russian girls during the week, here are two tips to make your life easier.

Chesterfield

Ladies night on Wednesdays means this place gets pretty packed with smashed teenagers and 6s and 7s. Don’t pull out the three-piece suit in here because it’s a “simpler” crowd. Definitely your best shot on Wednesdays.

If you haven’t pulled at Chesterfield, you can throw a Hail Mary and hit up Garage’s Black Music Wednesdays. Fills up really late but there are some cute Black Music groupies in here. Very small club. Thursday through Saturday they do afterparties and you have an excellent shot and swooping girls that are probably high.

Shishas Sferum

This is pretty much your only shot on Mondays and Tuesdays because they offer free or almost free drinks for women. A fairly low-class club where you should watch your drinks. As always the case in Moscow, there will be cute girls here on any day of the week but it’s nowhere near as good as on the weekend.

fashion travel girl packing cubes

In a nutshell, that is all you need to know about where to meet Moscow girls in nightlife. There are tons of options, and it all depends on what best fits your style, based on the type of girls that you’re looking for.
