Here’s the standard 8-day tour we offer on most of our expeditions.

Day 1 – Arrival in Baghdad

• The first day is a day to take things easy.
• We will be welcoming you throughout the day, picking you up at the airport, and checking in at the hotel.
• Once everybody is settled, in the evening we can all go for a drink or dinner but officially, the sightseeing tour starts on day 2.
• Overnight in Baghdad.

Day 2 – Full day in Baghdad

• The guided tour starts on the second day, a day which we will spend exploring the city of Baghdad.
• We will discover the old book market, the leather and copper bazaars, the historical Shabandar café, and all the old city highlights. We will also visit the Martyr’s Monument and, depending on the political situation, we might also try to get into the Green Zone, let’s see.
• If open, we will also visit the National Museum of Iraq.
• In the evening, we will all go to Dar Al Atraqchi Heritage Cafe, a traditional but pretty modern café and restaurant.

Day 3 – Ancient Babylon and Karbala

• Ancient Babylon was the first great civilization in the world, believed to be the first city to ever reach a population of more than 200,000.
• World wonders such as the Hanging Gardens and the Tower of Babel used to be within these walls.
• Today, Babylon is an archaeological site, featuring a mind-blowing replica of the Ishtar Gate and an actual Lion of Babylon.
• We will also visit the former Saddam Hussein Palace, today overlooking the ancient city of Babylon.
• After lunch, we will head to Karbala, the holiest city in the world for Shia Muslims, a surprisingly touristic city visited every year by, literally, millions and millions of pilgrims.
• We will check out the two jaw-dropping shrines, and spend the night wandering around the lively streets of Karbala.
• Overnight in Karbala.

Day 4 – Karbala & Nasiriya

• There’s so much going on in Karbala that, in the morning, we will take things slowly, wandering around town, checking the places which we probably missed the night before, and then, we will head for Nasiriya, a good 4 to 5-hour drive, with checkpoints included.
• Nasiriya is the largest city in southern Iraq, a high-security city, home to the American-built Al-Hoot prison, a maximum-security prison today filled with ISIS fighters. Nasiriya is also the gateway to The Mesopotamian Marshes.
• Overnight in Nasiriya.

Day 5 – The Mesopotamian Marshes

• This is going to be one of the most exciting days of our trip, since we will head for Chibayish, home to the Arab Marshes, a wetland ecosystem in south Iraq, an aquatic landscape in the middle of the desert, home to a distinct cultural group called the Marsh Arabs.
• We will spend the entire day getting immersed into their culture by visiting their villages, islands and eating masgouf with them, an old Mesopotamian dish consisting of a giant grilled fish.
• In the evening, we will head back to Nasiriyah.

Day 6 – The Ziggurat of Ur and Back to Baghdad

• In the morning, we will visit Ur, one of the oldest cities in the world (3800BC) – even older than Babylon – and believed to be the birthplace of Abraham.
• Then, we will take the long ride to Baghdad.
• In the evening, we can all go for dinner or drinks, and discover the modern part of Baghdad.

Day 7 – Samarra, Hatra and Mosul

• Samarra is a city controlled by a Shia Militia, a city practically impossible to visit for independent travelers but thanks to our expert local guides, hopefully, we won’t run into any issues.
• The city is famous for the spiral minaret of Malwiya, a UNESCO Heritage Site and one of the most famous landmarks in Iraq , absolutely stunning.
• Then, on our way to Mosul, we will stop in Hatra, a very well-preserved ancient Mesopotamian city, located in the middle of nowhere, and also a former ISIS training camp. We will have the chance to see actual ISIS graffiti.
• Overnight in Mosul .

Day 8 – Mosul

• Mosul is the second most important city in Iraq and one of the oldest cities in the world, the place where ancient Nineveh was found.
• In 2017, the city was liberated from ISIS, and people have already started to come back.
• Yes, we will explore the war-torn old city and all its destroyed buildings, but we will also discover Mosul’s most human side by witnessing the reconstruction, getting to know kind-hearted locals, and also checking out all the lively bazaars.
• Overnight in Mosul.

A visa is available on arrival at Baghdad International Airport. It costs 75USD.

This visa is valid for all of Iraq, including Kurdistan.

Which nationalities can join these tours?

Basically, all nationalities which are eligible to the visa on arrival:

All European Union passport holders, and also the United States (yes, Americans can travel to Iraq ), United Kingdom, Russia, China, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Switzerland

How can I get to Iraq?

Both Baghdad and Erbil have an international airport with plenty of connections from Istanbul (Pegasus and Turkish), Doha (Qatar), or Dubai (Emirates).

Are there ATMs in Iraq?

Yes, unlike Iran or Syria, Iraq is not subjected to all those sanctions and some of their banks do accept foreign debit or credit cards.

However, Iraq is a cash economy, so it’s recommended to also bring cash. Both euros and US dollars can be easily exchanged everywhere.

Do you recommend a specific travel insurance?

Also Visa grant to the public and political figures, businessmen and investors and the people who the Ambassadors and charge d’affaires find interest in their visit to Iraq, according to their judgment for a period of 30 days (Letter of the Consular Department No. 6 / 3/12162 on 26 March 2013).  In the case of tourist groups offer applications precede through tourism companies in the work area of the Mission in coordination with one of the officially licensed tourism companies in Iraq. 2- Normal Visa: – normal Visa allows the holder to enter Iraq once during the three months from the date of grant and residence in Iraq a period not exceeding three months, he must visit the Directorate of residence to put in the news of the arrival in ten days after his arrival and entered Iraqi territory (Letter of the Consular Department No. 8/3/8/98609 on 14 Oct. 2009). 3 – Political Visa: – the political Visa grant to officials in other countries who are visiting Iraq in official mission, as well as workers in the Diplomatic, international, regional and Arab Missions in the Republic of Iraq with their families, according to an official memo and granted under it a special residency.  4 – Service Visa: -service Visa grant to people who hold Service passports on the basis of an official memorandum by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country in which the Mission accredited, pursuant to the principle of reciprocity.  5 – Transit Visa: – transit visa allows the holder to enter Iraq once during the three months from the date of grant and a residence for a period of not more than seven days. 6 – Non- stop Transit Visa: – this Visa allows the holder to transit through Iraqi territory under the supervision of the competent authorities without stopping and one-time within three months from the date of grant. 7 – Urgent Visa: – this Visa granted by residency officer at border crossing points to a foreigner who arrives intending entering Iraq, and he doesn’t have a visa from our Missions abroad if the officer is convinced of the reasons that have prevented him to get a Visa.  8 – Multi- Visa: – this Visa granted for a period of three months, six months or one year after obtaining the legal conditions. (Foreigners Residence law No. 118 for the year 1987, and its amended (Article IV) and (Letter of the Directorate of Residence/ the section of foreign No. 37344 on 22 Dec. 2009).

Requirements of the Visa request  The following conditions must available in the Visa request: – 1 – The passport has validity for a period of minimum six months. 2 – Filling in a Visa application form with two photographs. 3 – Ability to cover the cost of living during the period of his stay in Iraq for holders of ordinary passports. 4 – There is no objection prevent him from entering the territory of the Republic of Iraq regarding the public health, security, morals, or the national economy. 5 – Provide a convincing reason for visit depending on the Visa type. 6 – The requester not accused or convicted of a crime outside Iraq may be extradited for. 7 – There is no order of deporting him from the Republic of Iraq and to achieve this must check the records for the barred from entering Iraq in accordance with the attached form (1). 8 – Full address in the place, which he will stay in the Republic of Iraq. (Foreigner Residence law No. (118) for the year 1987, and the amended (Article V). Instructions for Issuing Visa  1 – checking the information in the application form No. (1), and checking the period of passport validity of the foreigner Visa requester (minimum period of six months validity). 2 – Recording information in the Visa record sample No. (2). 3 – Writing number of companions next to the Visa if their names written in the Visa applicant’s passport. 4 – The lack of clarity and calligraphy differs from one person to another are required to the adoption of electronic printing filled the application form fields with and fields of the visa sticker, sample No. (3). (letter of the Consular Department No. 8/3 / General / 86 987 on 19 Oct. 2010) and (8/3/1/89904 on 13 Oct. 2010) 5 – The need to full of all Visa application form’s fields in Arabic, especially the applicant’s address in Iraq (block /alley/House/ well-known point), and the phone number for accelerating the answer to the Visa’s requests. Noting that a lot the Missions still send application forms without full of a lot of fields, especially the field of the address in Iraq (letter of the Consular Department No. 8/3 / General / 92543 on 1 Nov. 2010)  6 – Visa signed by the consul and stamped by the seal of the consulate. 7 – Fees are collected for granting Visa according the accounting receipt (37 a) as follows: A – Amount of (30$) U.S. dollars collected for granting tourist Visa arrivals and religious visit Visa according to the especial approvals for religious tourism companies exclusively as groups and to all individuals listed in the Visa lists, including companions in passports. B – Amount of (40$) U.S. dollars collected for granting regular Visa, religious visit Visa and individual Visa for passport holder and fees exempted for companions. C – Amount of (100$) U.S. dollars collected for granting of multi- Visa. (letter of the Consular Department No. 8/3 / 4/80480 on 12 July 2010)

General Notes for the Visa granting 1. When the presence of banning to enter the territory of the Republic of Iraq to the cause of public health, national security, morals or the national economy, can approach the Iraqi authorities to find out their opinion on the subject. 2. Correspondence related of Foreign Diplomats’ Visa ((granting visas)) to enter Iraq directed to the Protocol Department and a copy given to the Consular Department for informing.  7. When a Visa granted, the number and date of the Residency Directorate’s letter should mentioned for the possibility of its conformity with the approval that sent to the residency and the border. 8. The expired Visa not extendable, but they can be to obtain a new approval with new fees, but in the exceptional cases, like, closing border, the center of Passports and Residence at the border, will explain the situation on the Visa and allows them to enter without an extension or requesting a new approval, but this should not exceed more than seven days from the re- open the border. 9. Based on the letter of the Directorate of Residency, foreigners section number A. C / Visa / 1822 / 2011/29559 on 6 July 2011 containing ((to not grant visas or residency permits for foreign workers unless they obtain work permits from the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs)) with the exception of the following categories : – A – Employed by International Organizations, Diplomatic Missions and Consulates accredited in Iraq.  B – Foreigners who the international laws, conventions and treaties allow them to work, which the Government is a party in them. C – Foreigners who work for the Iraqi government, but are required to provide the Directorate residence of a letter that supports the contract between the foreigners and Ministries, government departments with filling out Visa application in Arabic language in order to take. D – Foreign workers in the reconstruction of holy shrines in Iraq.

Tension in the Middle East has ratcheted up again after Iran's attack on Israel, as the world waits to see how Benjamin Netanyahu's government will respond. 

With the threat of widening conflict, people due to travel through or over the Middle East may be asking if their plans may be impacted.

On Saturday, flight data showed dozens of journeys that would have travelled over the Middle East turned back after Iran fired more than 300 drones and missiles into Israel .

Here is what airlines are saying and the latest safety advice to travellers.

EasyJet scraps Tel Aviv flights

EasyJet has suspended all flights to Tel Aviv over safety concerns.

The budget airline told Sky News it has grounded its flights until 27 October at the earliest "as a result of the continued evolving situation" in the region.

Wizz Air customers could see schedule changes

Wizz Air cancelled flights to Tel Aviv on Sunday 14 and Monday 15 April before resuming its schedule.

But it said customers could experience schedule changes as it closely monitors the situation.

British Airways operating as normal

British Airways - which operates four daily return flights per week between Heathrow and Tel Aviv - said its flights were continuing to operate as planned, but it too was monitoring the situation.

Is it safe to travel to Turkey?

Turkey is a popular holiday destination for people from the UK with the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism saying that last year 3.16 million Britons made the journey there, according to Travel Weekly.

Yet, it borders a number of countries that the Foreign Office advises against travel to.

The vast majority of the country is considered generally safe for tourists, with some exceptions.

The Foreign Office advises against all travel within 10km of the border with Syria , and all but essential travel to the Sirnak and Hakkari provinces.

Is it safe to travel to Israel?

Some parts of Israel are considered "red zones" by the Foreign Office, with the government advising against all travel there.

For the rest of the country - including East Jerusalem and Tel Aviv - the advice is to travel only if it is essential.

Tourist Israel says around 220,000 Britons usually go to the country every year and the Foreign Office is advising against travel close to the border with Gaza, within 5km of the border with Lebanon and within 500m of the border with Syria.

Can I safely go on holiday in Egypt?

The main tourist areas in Egypt are generally considered safe, including the capital Cairo, cities along the Nile and Red Sea resorts.

Over 1.5 million British Nationals visit Egypt every year, according to analysts Gitnux, and the areas the Foreign Office warns not to travel to include the Governorate of North Sinai, where the Rafah crossing to Gaza is located, and within 20km of the border with Libya.

Check advice on other Middle East states before you travel

Following Iran's attack on Israel, the Foreign Office issued a warning relating to several countries in the surrounding area, telling travellers to check for the latest information.

Included in this are popular destinations like Dubai (visited by more than a million Britons last year according to Travel Weekly) and Marrakech.

"On 13 April 2024 Iran carried out military action against Israel. Monitor this travel advice and other media as the situation is changing fast," the FCDO said in a statement.

The countries covered by the warning include Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Bahrain, Kuwait, Libya, Jordan and Oman.

Anywhere else of concern?

Cyprus is near the region and has a large UK airbase but, as yet, there is no change in travel advice to the popular country.

More rain forecast in UAE next week after record deluge

The UAE is braced for more wet weather next week after being lashed by record rainfall in devastating storms on Tuesday.

The National Centre of Meteorology said there was a prospect of light rain on Monday evening, followed by further rain over parts of the Emirates the following day.

The Windy weather app shows rain largely concentrated over Dubai, projecting more wet weather and possible thunder in areas of the emirate on Tuesday.

In its latest five-day bulletin, the NCM said that Tuesday would be “cloudy at times with a chance of rainfall over scattered areas of the country, with a decrease in temperatures over some coastal areas”.

Expert says milder weather expected

A NCM weather expert said the rainfall will not approach the severity of the storms this week.

“We are looking at a series of medium clouds mainly from the west that are not heavily saturated with water vapour,” said Dr Ahmad Habib, senior meteorologist at the NCM.

“This will result in light to medium rainfall, primarily affecting the eastern regions near the mountains. Some isolated areas might experience heavier showers.

“This upcoming situation is very mild compared to what we experienced recently. It certainly will not reach the severe intensity of the last depression.”

These forecasts come as authorities embark on a mammoth clean-up operation after the storms.

Homes and roads have been flooded, partly submerged cars abandoned on motorways and flights cancelled, delayed and diverted.

The UAE on Tuesday experienced its largest single day of rainfall in the 75 years since records began in 1949.

UAE records heaviest rainfall in 75 years

NCM data, which covered a 24-hour period until 9pm on Tuesday, showed a 254mm of rain fell in one area of Al Ain – the equivalent of about two years' worth of average rainfall in the UAE.

The NCM said the persistent downpours were an “exceptional event in the UAE's climate history since the start of recording climate data”.

An Emirati driver died during flash floods on Tuesday in Ras Al Khaimah.

The man, who was in his seventies, died when his vehicle was swept away by strong currents during treacherous weather in Ras Al Khaimah.

Other people have had to leave their homes, as flash floods caused damage to property and led to power cuts.

Both government and private schools have switched to distance learning this week as a safety precaution.

Public sector staff were directed to work from home, while private sector companies were encouraged to allow employees to do the same.

A number of flooded roads have reopened – fully and partially – but drivers still face significant delays amid efforts to clear excess water.

Emirates is dealing with a 30,000 bag backlog as it grovels to customers about its handling of Dubai floods

Emirates, the Middle East's largest airline, is still trying to return 30,000 leftover bags to customers affected by the torrential rains and flooding that brought Dubai Airport to a standstill last week.

Over the weekend, the airline's president, Tim Clark, acknowledged that Emirates' response to the disruption had been "far from perfect" and apologized to customers.

"I would like to offer our most sincere apologies to every customer who has had their travel plans disrupted during this time," Clark wrote in an open letter posted online on Saturday.

Calling the previous week "one of the toughest for Emirates operationally," he said that the airline had been forced to cancel nearly 400 flights and delay many more after storms brought the region's highest rainfall in 75 years.

"Flooded roads impeded the ability of our customers, pilots, cabin crew, and airport employees to reach the airport, and also the movement of essential supplies like meals and other flight amenities," Clark wrote.

In total, 1,478 flights had been canceled at the world's second busiest airport by Friday morning, according to Reuters.

While planes remained stuck on flooded taxiways, submerged roads surrounding the airport left some passengers stranded in the airport.

To accommodate disrupted passengers, Emirates said it had secured 12,000 hotel rooms and issued 250,000 meal vouchers.

Despite the chaos and a government warning telling people to stay at home, Emirates flight attendants in Dubai were also told to report for duty.

However, Clark acknowledged that many passengers had been frustrated by the congestion, lack of information, and confusion at terminals.

In an effort to handle the ongoing fallout, he said that a task force had been created to sort and return 30,000 pieces of left-over luggage to its owners.

The airline officially resumed regular flight operations at Dubai Airport on Saturday, but warned it would still take several days to clear the backlog.

Non-UAE-based carriers were still facing restrictions over the weekend. Foreign airlines with more than two flights in 24 hours were issued with a Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) instructing them to reduce operations by 50%, Indian news agency PTI reported.

According to FlightRadar 24's data , all arrivals and departures were largely running to schedule again on Monday morning.

The oil-rich United Arab Emirates has become one of the most attractive economic hubs in the Gulf region.

Its efforts to diversify its economy away from oil, centered on Dubai as a tourism hot spot, have helped the country position itself as a major player on the world stage. In a sign of its growing popularity, the number of passengers traveling to Dubai Airport increased by 31.7% in the last year.
