DAY 1: Arrival in Jaisalmer, which cab be via train, as Jaisalmer is well connected with all tier 1 cities via rail network, or via flight, as Jaisalmer Airport do has some direct flights, and some one stop flights.

So lets say that you are arriving in Jaisalmer via Delhi, Mumbai or Ahmedabad then its most probably that you have arrived between noon to 4 pm, and in that case you can visit below sites on day 1.

1. Gadisar Lake

This is an artificial lake in Jaisalmer city built more than 700 years ago by the 1st king o Jaisalmer, Maharana Jaisal, to harvest rain water. Today its a popular tourist place in Jaisalmer where you can enjoy boat ride, see catfish & explore the beautiful ghats built on lake side.

2. Bada Bagh

Bada Bagh is also a historical place, more like a garden built the the Maharana’s of Jaisalmer in 18th century. Here you will find beautiful cenotaphs (chhatri) of Jaisalmer Maharajas, and also a place for awesome photography.

3. Vyas Chhatri

Vyas Chhatri is a site dedicated to Vyas Muni, of Mahabharat era, and here you will find many cenotaphs (chhatri) made up of yellow sand stone which is available in good number in Jaisalmer district.

4. NK Sharma Puppet Show

NK Sharma is a local Jaisalmer historian who has written many books on Jaisalmer, and runs a small museum which is now very famous for its Puppet Show. You can come in late evening to attend the show.

The above 4 sites can be visited on day 1 if you have arrived around 2-4 pm. On next day you can plan tour tour of Jaisalmer Fort and Sam Sand Dunes.

5. Jaisalmer Fort

Also known as Sonar Quila , this huge castle is a living fort of India; meaning that a big population of Jaisalmer city lives inside the fort, around 30,000 and here you must spend half a day to visit sites like:

> Patwon ki Haveli

Patwon ki Haveli (mansion) is one of three main Haveli’s in Jaisalmer which are as old as Jaisalmer city, this one was built in 1805  by a famous gold merchant name Guman Chand Patwa. Inside the stunning mansions you will find 5 small haveli’s with beautiful paintings, mirror work, wall cravings etc. Know more about Patwon ki haveli at this link .

> Salim Singh ki Haveli

This haveli was built in 1815 AD, and it use to belong to a army general name Salim Singh. His name is also in destruction Kuldhara haunted village, but still his haveli has 38 balconies, jharokhas  which are very beautiful. > Nathmal ki Haveli

This Haveli has two different architectural styles, and in one part the owners lives here too. You will find like like elephants at entrance, paintings on walls, pillars, Latticework on windows, and will also find some Rajasthani gift items and souvenirs. More at this link .

> Jain Temples in Jaisalmer Fort

In the local population of Jaisalmer Fort, Jain businessmen has always played an important role, and thus you will find 7 stunning Jain temples built inside the Jaisalmer Fort.

6. Tazia Tower

Not a very popular tourist site but a part of city History, Tazia Tower is a 1886 built building with beautiful stone work, and today its a hotel site with a small museum which you can visit neat Jaisalmer Fort.

7. Amar Sagar Jain Temple

Amar Sagar Jain Temple is oe of three tourist places which you can visit on route to Sam Sand Dunes. This is a Jain temple dedicated to Lord Parshvanath in 1928. The architecture of the temple is amazing and you can visit in while driving towards Sam.

8. Kuldhara Haunted Village

Kuldhara was a small town of Brahmin community which is not an abounded village and only is ruins are left. It is said that Commander of Jaisalmer Salim Singh wanted o marry a local girl from this village and since the locals were in no power to say no, the all left their homes and since then this place has become haunted Entry after evening is not allowed here.

10. Khaba Fort

Kabha Fort is the 3rd places to see in Jaisalmer desert aside of Sam, and here you will find small abended fort, with almost no tourists. The fort is said to be empty since the locals of Kuldhara town left their homes.

11. Sam sand dunes

After Jaisalmer Fort, the sand dunes of Jaisalmer is the main attraction for tourists. 45 km drive Jaisalmer city you will find a 5 km area of 30 to 50 meter tall sand dunes with many desert camps. This is Sam.

Here you can enjoy many outdoor activities which we have shared i our Jaisalmer tour packages above. These are:

Apart from Sam sand dunes, you can also plan to visit Khuri, or Khuri Sand Dunes, which are around 40 km from Sam and 50 km from Jaisalmer city. Khuri also has some nice desert camps like Mama’s desert camp, and here you will find a bit less tourists, and its an excellent place for a camel safari and also nomadic style camel safari tour where you also visit local villages, try their food etc.

14. Longewala

Around 130 km from Jaisalmer city is Longewala, or Longewala post where the 1971 Indo-Pak war took place. The Pak border is visible from here and here you will learn a lot about the war and do visit the Tanot Mata Temple, not to from from here.

15. Tanot Mata Temple

Around 10-15 minute drive from Longewala is the Tanot Mata temple which became famous after the 1971 war. It is said that during the war many bullets & rockets war locket towards the temple but none of the exploded. Inside the temple complex you will find a presentation of many bullets & rockets that fell but didn’t exploded.

16. Mohangarh

Mohangarh is a small town, 63 k north of Jaisalmer, and it became famous among tourist after a fort here was transformed in a luxury heritage hotel. The hotel name is WelcomHeritage Mohangarh Fort, with a room tariff of Rs 7,000-14,000, depending upon season. And you can visit this fort, for a coffer it not planning to stay here.

17. Jaisalmer War Museum

Opened o 24 Aug’2015 by Lieutenant General Ashok Singh, JWM is a museum that shares the insights of 1965 ad 1971 Ino-Pak wars, tanks & equipment’s captured in these wars, and there is “Hall of Honour” where you will find details on Param Vir Chakra and Maha Vir Chakra awardees.

18. Ramdevra Temple

Around 100 km east from Jaisalmer city is the famous Ramdevra Temple, dedicated to Baba Ramdevji,  who took samadhi here in the year 1459. Every year in the months of August-September, followers from Rajasthan & all nearby states come here, some even walk 500 km or more as Yatra.
