  • Mui Ne: A Foodies Fantasy

Mui Ne is a coastal resort town located in the Binh Thuan Province (Southeast Vietnam). Mui Ne has become a popular tourist getaway, and for good reason: beautiful beaches, wind and kite surfing, flying sand dunes, a mystical fairy stream, a thriving fish market, ancient Cham towers, the oldest lighthouse in Southeast Asia and a mountain pagoda featuring the world-renowned reclining Buddha. But there’s another draw to Mui Ne, one of colorful arrays and aromas—and that’s the food. Mui Ne is a palate pleasing paradise, a foodie’s fantasia, a gourmand’s grotto…

Mui Ne seafood

Being a seaside locale, seafood is certainly in abundance and the dishes don’t disappoint. Here’s a short list of must-try Mui Ne mainstays:

Lau Tha (special fish hotpot): While Vietnamese hotpot typically blends myriad scrumptious ingredients, the Mui Ne version goes the extra mile: fish, shrimp, pork, veggies, green mango, banana flower, rice noodles, fried eggs—a broth flavored with peanuts, chili and lime. Fresh local ingredients put this hotpot over the top.

Lau Tha

Source: Internet

Muc mot nang (sun dried squid): This mouthwatering munchable is popular all over Mui Ne. Fresh squid, dried in the sun and then grilled over coals with a chili and lime baste. Dipped in fish sauce, these savory, sweet tasting squid pack a flavorful punch.

Sun dried squid

Ca Mai (fish salad): Vietnamese ceviche might best describe this delectable. Fresh Mai fish delicate slender is the core ingredient to this zesty assemblage . The works are stuffed with raw vegetables (basil, onions, green bananas, star fruit, chili, garlic, and roasted peanuts), then wrapped in rice paper and dipped in fish sauce.

Ca Mai Fish Salad

Oc Huong (sweet sea snail): The sweet sea snail is an affordable delicacy and a rarity outside of Mui Ne. Captivating in its speckled shell, the sea snail is prepared in various styles: steamed (with onion and ginger), baked, grilled or roasted with garlic. Locals, typically pluck the snail from its shell, sprinkle it with lime and dip it in crushed peanuts.

Oc Huong

Dong (lizard meat): This creature is with a similar shape but larger than geckos. This curious dish is best served grilled (though it is served stir-fried, in soup, salads, rolls, even in pastries). The meat is a bit chewy (like a moist jerky) and served as seasoned strips with chili—a fantastically exotic finger-food.

Dong - Lizard Meat

Banh Canh (thick noodle soup): This is something of a staple amongst Vietnamese (whose noodle varieties are legendary). It’s the thick, chewy noodle itself that really stands out (made of tapioca flour and/or rice flour). The broth is a fish stock made of a variety of fish caught fresh in the waters of Mui Ne. Mui Ne’s version comes with fried and steamed fish cakes, scallions, cilantro, dried onion, peppers and lime. A Vietnamese version of comfort food.

Banh canh cha ca

Banh Xeo (Crispy pancake): Mui Ne’s signature “Street Food” is Banh Xeo, a fried crispy pancake/tortilla loaded with shrimp, fat pork and bean sprouts and then folded. Dipping the mouthwatering concoction into a chili, garlic, lemon, fish sauce completes the ensemble.

Banh xeo

Quai vac tran (shrimp and pork cake): This is another street food delicacy. Translucent (made from transparent wheat-flour) bite-sized, deheaded prawns  and fatty pork, sprinkled with finely sliced scallions and chili pepper—boiled and served on every street corner.

Shrimp and pork cake

Rang Muc Nuong (grilled squid teeth): Yes, squids do have teeth—centered between the tentacles like the receptacle of a flower which holds together the petals. And while the Vietnamese utilize it in many dishes, the stand-alone appearance of these marinated, marble-sized munchies on the streets of Mui Ne—skewered and grilled over coals—provides one of those “only in Vietnam” experiences.

Rang muc nuong

Fish Spring Roll is unique to Phan Thiet and no one does it better than Mui Ne. Special rice paper is used to wrap fish and cassava before a light frying. Dipped in a spicy sauce, these dainties are packed with flavor and melt in your mouth.

Fish spring roll

Bear in mind, these are just a sampling of the disparate dishes offered up by mom-and-pop kitchens, street vendors and culinary chefs. Different cooks pull from various “old family” recipes, so no two venues serve up identical food. Therefore, you’re truly on a culinary expedition.

So where to find these varied victuals? For starters, there’s a strip of restaurants running from the center of Mui Ne to the fishing village. Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street and Tuyen Quang Street are loaded up. The range varies from cozy to cosmopolitan—something for every taste and budget. “Bo Ke street” runs along the beach near the fishing village and is chock-full of seafood eateries and street food venders with their scrumptious BBQ offerings. The Pit Stop Food Court on Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street (on the beach) is an assemblage of eateries. Not only can you feast on traditional Mui Ne favorites, but there’s also a variety of foreign foods as well (Mexican, Italian, American BBQ, Hungarian and Vegan). There’s also a smokehouse, a wine shop, a handmade chocolate shop, a cafe, a bar and even a nightclub.

Mui Ne restauranet

Food is a major aspect of the Mui Ne experience. Food is found everywhere in Mui Ne. With such freshness and diversity, Mui Ne provides dining experiences of epic proportions. So, dig in!

Top 5 must try food in Mui Ne Vietnam

If you are tired of the busy city life and want to escape to a more natural and peaceful place, then Mui Ne Vietnam is exactly what you need. This is a small coastal island of Vietnam and is famous for its beautiful beaches with a relatively small population. A short trip to this land will give you life-long memories, especially about the food.

Table of Contents

I. Vietnamese thick noodle soup (Bánh canh)

1. how it is made.

This dish is a very popular food around Vietnam regardless of regional differences. The name “Thick noodle soup” tells the recipe itself. The rice noodle is thicker than usual and traditionally, the cooks will have to boil the pig bones and a little minced pork for a long time before the dishes are ready to be served. Then, the soup can be eaten with fried or steamed fish cakes. There are many ways to enjoy thick noodle soup such as dipping bread into the water to savor the sweetness of the carefully prepared broth.

2. Where to find

Usually, the local people have thick noodle soup for breakfast because this dish is easy to prepare and highly nutritious. These are some places where you can try:

+ Banh canh Xiu (the place is small but the food tastes delicious)

  • Address: 1 HA Kim Dong Street

Opening Hours: 10:00 – 22:00

Price: VND 15,000 – VND 33,000

+ Banh canh cha ca ba Ly

  • Address: 566 Tran Dung Dao Street, Phan Thiet
  • Opening Hours: 16:00 – 22:00

+ Banh canh cha ca Tuyen Quang

  • Address: 13 Tuyen Quang Street, Phan Thiet
  • Opening Hours: 07:00 – 21:00
  • Price: VND 15,000 – VND 20,000

II. Hot pot drop (Lẩu thả)

1. how it is made and served .

One of the most famous cuisines in Mui Ne is hot seafood pot drop. The most special thing about this dish is the delicacy of how the ingredients are presented to the customers. Deep herring, boiled port side, scrambled eggs, fried rice paper, vermicelli, star fruit, and vegetables are served in red banana flower peels which are arranged to look like a flower. The soup is made from pork bones broth with tomatoes to create the natural redness and sweetness, and the dish can only be completed with the fish sauce which is made flavored with fried peanut and chili. Choose ingredients you like, add it to your bowl, pour the hot soup over and enjoy!

Here are some recommended restaurants for you to find a hot spot drop:

+ Soc Nau restaurant

  • Address: 5 Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street
  • Price: VND 30,000 – VND 150,000

+ Viet Nam home restaurant

  • Address: 125A Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, Ham Tien Ward
  • Opening Hours: 07:00 – 23:00
  • Price: VND 100,000 – VND 500,000

III. Cactus Cake (Bánh quai vạc)

Cactus cake has become an extremely popular street food for as long as people can remember. Shrimp and pork meat are mixed together with fish sauce, salt, and sugar. All is put inside boiled transparent wheat-flour dough giving the cake kind of a glass look that will make your mouth water right away. When eating, you will dip the cake into a mixture of fish sauce, lemon juice, garlic, sugar and if like the smell of onion, a cup of golden onion is always at your disposal.

Since this is street food, you can find it in almost every street vendor at a very reasonable price. Normally, people will sit on a tiny plastic chair on the sidewalk around the stalls so it is great for you to savor the taste of the cake in that street style. But if you prefer a more formal place, here are my suggestions:

+ Banh canh Xiu

Address:  – 1 HA Kim Dong Street

+ Phan Thiet markets

IV. Grilled squid teeth (Răng mực nướng)

How on earth can squids have teeth? The name of this dish is so strange, isn’t it? However, it is the uniqueness of the name that attracts people to the food. In fact, the name “Grilled squid teeth” comes from the local name of the round small tip of the squid which is usually forgotten. Nevertheless, it has gradually made its own name as a special street cuisine of Mui Ne. The teeth are simply skewered and grilled until it has the yellow color and smell delicious. You just have to dip it into chili sauce and its flavor will surely surprise you.

Similar to the cactus cake, grilled squid teeth are mostly sold on the street in several food stalls, therefore, there is no need to worry about the price or the places.

+ 49 food store

Address: 49 Pham Van Dong Street

Opening Hours: 09:00 – 22:00

Price: VND 50,000 – VND 200,000

+ Loan squid teeth

Address: 202, Vo Thi Sau Street

Opening Hours: 17:00 – 22:00

Price: VND 12,000 – VND 50,000

V. Mai fish salad (Gỏi cá mai)

Going to a coastal city of Vietnam means seafood is always available and Mai fish salad is not an exception when it comes to Mui Ne cuisine. You may not know this but in Vietnam, “mai” in Mai fish means slim, pretty and delicate. And just as the name suggests this kind of fish is very delicate, slender and its scale is a layer of sparkling silver-white scale. Big, fresh and carefully-spinal withdrawal Mai fish are plunged into ice to give the dish a cool feeling. Then, lemon juice, carrots, onion, basil, peppers, garlic, and peanuts are mixed together with the fish. Eating it with the peanut sauce or Phan Thiet fish sauce will bring you a memorable experience.

Because of its popularity, Mai fish salad can be found near along the seabank of Mui Ne or Viet Nam home restaurant – 125A Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street

If you ever have the chance to travel to Mui Ne, Phan Thiet, remember to try all of these Mui Ne cuisines for yourself before the trip ends. Otherwise, your trip will not be completed and it definitely will be a pity that Vietnam cannot bring you a wonderful experience that it should have had.

But 2 hours is more than enough if you arrives in time.

Does the price depend on the date of pick up?

Yes, there are some dates when price is increased. +30%: – New Year  – Lunar New Year – TET  – Labor Day (30.04.2022 – 02.05.2022) – Independence Day ( 01.09.2022 – 02.09.2022 ) +20%: – Very Short notice (If you book transfer for the same day) +10%: – Short notice (If you book transfer for the next day).

Ta cu mountain is one of the highest mountains in Binh Thuan Province - 649 meters From the top of the mountain, there is a spectacular view of the dragon fruit farms and rice paddies below. In the 1870s and 1880s, a Buddhist month named Tran Huu Duc led a group of Buddhist faithful in the construction of the Linh Son Truong Tho Pagoda. After his death in 1887, a group of his followers built the lower Long Doan Pagoda. Then in 1958, a man named Truong Dinh Tri began construction of the 49 meter-long, seven meter-high reclining Buddha, as well as three additional smaller Buddha statues. There is a cave near the statues which has been named the Forefathers Cave. At the bottom of the cave is a small stream, which disappears into the cave floor. It is inside this cave that Tran Huu Duc spent much of his life time in meditation.

Mui Ne Travel Guide: Backpacking Mui Ne Itinerary & Is It Worth Visiting? 2024

Come and check out my favorite 2 days in Mui Ne itinerary and find out is Mui Ne worth visiting. Take your adventures in Vietnam to the next level by finding out the best things to do, restaurants, where to stay, and more for your backpacking Mui Ne adventure!

Located on the Southeast coast of Vietnam is the small seaside town of Mui Ne. Though contrary to its size, this place has well and truly earned its place on the banana pancake backpacking trail.

Known for its incredible landscapes there is not anywhere else like it in this country. That’s why backpacking Mui Ne is a must.

However what exactly is there to do in Mui Ne and is it really worth visiting in your Vietnam adventures?

Luckily I have spent quite some time backpacking Vietnam visiting many places including Mui Ne. While there I decided to visit the absolute best parts of it to bring you this Mui Ne itinerary and decide whether it is worth a visit.

Think huge sand dunes with impressive views over the ocean, small village vibes, affordable accommodation, and food, as well as nearby beaches to visit.

Nevertheless, let’s get into this travel guide and itinerary. Find out everything you need to know such as where to stay, eat, and what to do. Ultimately allowing you to have an incredible, stress-free time while backpacking Mui Ne.

2 Days In Mui Ne Itinerary & Is Mui Ne Worth Visiting: Ultimate Backpacking Guide

Need A Quick Answer?

If you perhaps don’t have time to read this entire guide on Mui Ne, no worries, here are the top tips:

🏖️ Easiest & Best Way to Explore The Highlights of Mui Ne: I recommend booking a sunrise or sunset jeep tour in Mui Ne from $23.00 per person. Book now with Viator .

🏠 Where to Stay in Mui Ne: Top hostel choices for backpackers in Mui Ne include iHome Backpackers Resort (dorms start from $7.00) and Mui Ne Hills Backpackers (dorms start from $4.00)

🚗 Transport From Ho Chi Minh City To Mui Ne: Take a luxury sleeper bus and arrive refreshed. Book now with GetYourGuide .

🍜 For Foodies: Take a food tour around Mui Ne where you can buy some of the best local delights. Book now with Viator .

🚗 How I Book Cheap Transport In Vietnam: Baolau & 12.Go Asia

Is Mui Ne Worth Visiting

Honestly, I do believe Mui Ne is worth visiting on your Vietnam Itinerary. The landscapes here are unlike anything else you will find in the country and is quite a unique experience.

However, in saying this you don’t need to spend long here. There are some highlights in Mui Ne checking out, but they can all be ticked off in one day.

I also didn’t find the beaches here overly spectacular so I would just visit the Red Sand Dunes, White Sand Dunes, and Fairy Stream, then move on.

How Many Days To Spend In Mui Ne

Mui Ne was actually one of the few places where I definitely spent too long while backpacking around Vietnam .

Yes, it is still worth visiting, though you do not need to spend as long here as you would in other places in Vietnam. Overall I would try to spend 3 nights in each location so I can get a good vibe for the place and explore some of the best things there. Though in Mui Ne you only need 1 night or 2 nights at most.

I know this may not seem like long, but I found so many backpackers here were also doing this. You can easily do a morning tour of the best sites and spend the rest of the time relaxing.

Perhaps you would like to spend longer here if you can afford a nice beachfront resort, though unfortunately, my hostel in Mui Ne did not cut the mustard. Nevertheless, there was a good party vibe for just $5.00 per night.

the contrast between the orange cliffs and green jungle on the fairy stream, a must explore on your 2 days in mui ne itinerary

How To Plan A Mui Ne Itinerary

When it comes to your Mui Ne Itinerary you do have a couple of options as to getting to and visiting this seaside town:

Independent travel: You can find numerous buses and trains traveling from Ho Chi Minh City to Mui Ne or Nha Trang to Mui Ne so it is pretty damn easy to book it yourself over on 12 Go Asia . Once in Mui Ne, you can easily find hostels and guesthouses.

Organized tours: There are a small number of organized tours from Ho Chi Minh City that will take you to Mui Ne. These will include accommodation and a tour of the highlights. Some of these tours are just day trips while others are overnight.

Recommended Tours:

Day Trip: Take a day trip to Mui Ne from Ho Chi Minh City , the perfect option if you are short on time. Enjoy a day where everything is taken care for you while you enjoy checking out the highlights in Mui Ne.

Overnight Trip: Spend 2 days 1 night in Mui Ne from Ho Chi Minh City . Enjoy relaxing at a 4 star beach resort with breakfast and lunch included.

Transport ONLY: Book a comfortable and luxurious sleeper bus from Ho Chi Minh City to Mui Ne . Relax in your own pod style bed and arrive right at your accommodation in Mui Ne.

Day 1: Explore The Outskirts On The Mui Ne Itinerary

Welcome to Mui Ne! On our first day in Mui Ne itinerary, we will take things a bit slower as we explore what exactly the town has to offer. Enjoy spending time on the beach, why not try out some new skills, or explore some of the history here?

I have left the first-day itinerary relatively open, and not doing the absolute best things. This is simply because you can arrive at whatever time from your previous destination and don’t have to rush about the first morning.

We will do the best things to do in Mui Ne on our second day of the adventures before departing in the afternoon.

Morning: Po Shanu Cham Towers

Before we start exploring it is time to grab some breakfast to fuel you for the day. The Brunch Bar Mui Ne is a great breakfast spot with super affordable prices. You can’t go wrong when a delicious egg benedict costs $2.60!

Now you are ready to explore and prepare yourself for the Po Shanu Cham Towers . However, they aren’t in the main touristy area of Mui Ne, and instead are slightly out of town between Mui Ne and Phan Thiet.

To visit I recommend booking a taxi which will cost you between $10.00 to $15.00 each way. To prevent getting ripped off use Grab in Vietnam, it’s basically the Uber of Southeast Asia. The journey will take you about 15 minutes and then you will arrive.

Like a lot of towers of the Cham religion here in Vietnam, the Po Shanu Cham Towers are located on top of a hill. Similar to My Son in Hoi An , they are from the time of the Champa empire. They were built in the 8th century and are built from the bright red bricks you often see temples here made out of.

This is an excellent place to relax, feel the breeze on your face, and learn a bit about the history here. After about an hour of exploring you will likely be ready to head off.

Entry Fee: 10,000 VND / $0.40

Afternoon: Ta Cu Mountain Or Beach Chilling

Now for the afternoon, I will give you the choice of 2 different activities that you can do during the backpacking Mui Ne itinerary.

This is simply because visiting Ta Cu Mountain can be a bit pricey, and you will be spending a bit of time in vehicles, which isn’t fun if you have taken a 5-hour bus from Ho Chi Minh or Nha Trang to Mui Ne that same day. Though I will explain how it can be done a bit more on a budget, anyways the beach is a fun and relaxing alternative.

Though before you get exploring time to grab a delicious lunch!

If you are a vege like me why not head to El Cafe Vegetarian/Vegan Food . This is the best vegan and vegetarian-friendly spot in Mui Ne and is well worth visiting. They serve a huge variety of cuisines so no matter what you are craving you will be able to find it here.

Alternatively, you can grab a delicious meal at Sindbad Mui Ne . This was one of our go-to spots as we were actually staying next door, though it is one of the highest-rated restaurants in Mui Ne. it is locally run and prices are super affordable for the backpacker crowd.

Option 1: Ta Cu Mountain

First off you will need to actually get to Ta Cu Mountain from Mui Ne. You can either take a taxi, which will cost you around $40.00 for the 40-minute journey, otherwise, public transport is the other option.

To use public transport you will want to catch the bus going to Thuan Nam City, and then jump off at the large shopping mall. Next up you will want to catch bus number 1 or 4 heading to Ta Cu mountain. You will know when you arrive thanks to the impressive shiny gates at the entrance.

Here at Ta Cu Mountain, you can see Buddhist statues, pagodas, and a huge reclining Buddha, which is the biggest one in Vietnam.

You will need to get from the gate to the top of the mountain. If you are not on too much of a budget you can take the cable car for some impressive views. Though this will cost you 160,000 VND / $6.50 roundtrip.

If you are keen to save your money you can hike up, but remember to bring plenty of water. It is a pretty steep climb, though you do not have to be crazy fit to complete it, standard fitness will be fine.

Just be careful on the way down depending on the weather, as if it has rained recently it can be a bit muddy and slippery.

Entry Fee: 20,000 VND / $0.80

Location: Tà Cú Mountain, Thuận Nam, Hàm Thuận Nam District, Bình Thuận Province, Vietnam

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Central Vietnam Guide x Hoian Day Trip (@centralvietnamguide)

Option 2: Beach Chilling

Now for more of a budget-friendly activity, why not hit the beach while you are backpacking Mui Ne!? Now what I will say is check the tides.

High tide in Mui Ne basically comes right up to the buildings on that side of the road. Surprisingly the buildings and the beach are super close together so some resorts have created an artificial beach separated from the tides with a retaining wall. These should be fine no matter the tides.

If you are staying in a beachfront hotel or backpackers go you! You have already avoided my first mistake in Mui Ne!

I presumed the beach would be easy to access like most places in the world. Unfortunately, the buildings on the beachside are so built up and commercialized there aren’t many public spaces.

So from here, you will either need to taxi a little bit out (just ask the driver and they will be able to take you somewhere appropriate), otherwise do a sneaky into a resort/beach club/ restaurant. Most of the time they are more than happy if you buy a drink or some food anyway.

enjoying life on the beach in mui ne

Evening: Sunset On The Beach

In the evening I highly recommend grabbing a delicious cocktail and watching the beautiful sunset. There are numerous beachfront restaurants and bars along the main strip in Mui Ne so just go for a walk and see what tickles your fancy.

If you are super keen there are a heap of restaurants where you can pick your own fresh seafood out of a tank and the chefs will cook it up on a BBQ.

Though warning you now, the assortment of animals on display to eat was certainly a surprise. However, don’t stay out too late as we have a sunrise tour tomorrow on our last day of the Mui Ne itinerary.

a seaside restaurant during sunset in mui ne

Day 2: Main Highlights Of Mui Ne

It is an early start on our second day of the backpacking Mui Ne Itinerary, though trust me it is worth it.

Today we will do a sunrise tour to the best attractions in town. Yes, we will be visiting the white sand dunes, the red sand dunes, the fishing village, and finally fairy stream.

Booking A Sunrise Tour

Now I will let you know everything you need to know about booking a sunrise tour and why this is the best way to see the sights around Mui Ne. Walking down the street you will see all the hotels, travel agencies, and even restaurants, advertising this tour.

Sure it is an early wake-up time with your pick up somewhere between 4.30 am and 5.30 am, but trust me it is worth it.

My preferred tour is the Mui Ne Sand Dunes Jeep Tour where you can either book a private jeep or a shared sunrise/sunset jeep starting from just $18.00 per person. You will visit all the highlights and have a fantastic time.

That early start allows you to see the sunrise over the impressive white sand dunes. Plus this tour is a super affordable way to see the best Mui Ne has to offer. For the price, we shared a jeep with other people staying at our accommodation.

Just remember if you get quite a motion sick if you haven’t eaten, make sure to pack something the night before. There will be a small number of options available at each stop, but unfortunately, pringles are not the best breakfast.

White Sand Dunes

The first stop on your tour will be the White Sand Dunes to watch the sunrise. This will no doubt be one of your highlights here as it was mine.

You can either pay a jeep to take you out or hire an ATV. Though for both these options prepare to get stuck, as we saw this numerous times. Your best bet will be hiring an ATV with the most horsepower, just prepare to pay more.

Instead, if you are on a budget like I happened to be you can simply walk out to the dunes from the car park. It is a nice stroll and since it is the morning the heat of the day hasn’t started yet.

The white sand dunes are large enough that you can find your own little private spot to watch the sunrise and get away from the rest of the crowds.

watching the sunrise over the white sand dunes in mui ne

The Fishing Village

Surprisingly enough the fishing village was also a highlight for me on the sunrise tour.

I mean sure it doesn’t sound fun or interesting, and in all honesty, it was quite smelly, but I thought it was awesome seeing the fisherman pull in their catch.

You can also see all the brightly colored fishing boats bobbing around in the water.

watching locals doing their work at the fishing village in mui ne

Red Sand Dunes

The third stop of the day is the famous red sand dunes. These are a lot more touristy than the white sand dunes simply because they back right onto the road, literally.

This means you can often find large tour buses here, whereas, in the white sand dunes, you need a 4WD vehicle to access without getting stuck.

Though trust me it is still worth visiting! Here you can hire a sandboard and fly down the dunes. Just make sure to agree on a price beforehand, this is how some people make a living.

the red sand dunes in mui ne

Fairy Stream

The last spot on the tour and of our Mui Ne itinerary is the popular Fairy Stream. This is actually a really nice walk upstream to a waterfall.

However, my favorite part was the colors. It was so incredible seeing these bright orange sand cliffs contrast against the green lush jungle.

Depending on the time of year you visit will affect how much water is in the stream and what the waterfall is like at the end.

I visited in the dry season when the water was ankle-deep and the waterfall was just a trickle.

2 days in mui ne itinerary 7

Afternoon: Leaving Mui Ne

After the sunrise tour, you can either head back to your accommodation and get a couple more hours of sleep or grab yourself a delicious breakfast. I Cafe Mui Ne is an excellent spot to come for a quick bite.

Here you are able to get a full English breakfast for just a few dollars. The perfect way to fuel yourself after a busy morning of exploring.

That afternoon I recommend packing up and heading to your next destination. From Mui Ne there are a few spots that I recommend traveling to next:

North: If you are traveling North from Mui Ne, you could take the bus to Nha Trang and then up to Hoi An . Continuing north again you have Hue with the Imperial City and then Hanoi right up the top of the country. Hanoi is the perfect hub, where you could venture to Thailand or Laos via the international airport, or if you want to stay domestic, then hit up Sapa or Ha Long Bay . You could also head to Ninh Binh which is between Hanoi and Hue. I haven’t personally been yet, but I have heard great things, and it’s on my bucketlist!!

South: Alternatively, you can head down South towards Ho Chi Minh City and visit the Cu Chi Tunnels . Vietnam is a huge country and there are so many things to do here!

Travel Tips For Your Mui Ne Itinerary

Now you have read my 2 days in Mui Ne itinerary I will let you know my top travel tips to take your backpacking Mui Ne adventures to the next level!

Other Things To Do In Mui Ne

Apart from those things listed above, there are still even more things to do in Mui Ne :

Kite Surfing: There are numerous opportunities to go kite surfing in Mui Ne and you will see stores advertising it as you walk alongside the main strip. It is a little more on the pricey side, though compared to doing this somewhere like Europe, prices here are a bargain, and are some of the cheapest in the world!

Ke Ga Lighthouse: Ke Ga Lighthouse is the oldest one in Southeast Asia, having been built in 1897. You can find it South of Mui Ne and there is an excellent viewpoint from the rocks on the shoreline. You can also take a boat from the harbor to the island, unfortunately, you are no longer able to go inside the lighthouse itself.

How To Get To Mui Ne

Depending on which direction you are traveling around Vietnam will affect what way you are coming to Mui Ne. Though it is likely you will either be traveling from the North or South.

Personally, I was traveling from north to south and made my way from Nha Trang to Mui Ne and for this guide, I will speak from experience so in this direction.

Tickets for all journeys can be purchased on Baolau (I recommend for trains) or 12.Go Asia (I recommend for buses)

Bus : The trip from Nha Trang to Mui Ne takes 5 hours.

Plane : It is currently not possible to fly.

Private Transfer: Private transfers are your quickest way and take 3 hours. However, prepare to open your wallet as it is pricey.

Train : From Nha Trang to Mui Ne, it takes 4 and a half hours on the train. Though the closest station is in the town of Binh Thuan, you will need to take a taxi for the remainder of the journey. This will cost at least 500,000 VND / $20.00.

Where To Stay In Mui Ne?

There is a wide assortment of places to stay in Mui Ne. Whether you are looking for an affordable hostel, beachside resort, or friendly guesthouse. There is a huge selection to be found.

We stayed in a hostel during our stay. The rooms were certainly basic, but they did have everything we needed for a few night’s stay. It was also a bit of a party hostel which usually isn’t my scene.

This hostel has closed down now, but instead, I would recommend EVA HUT Mui Ne Beach Hostel. With prices starting from $6.00 for a dorm room, this beachfront backpackers hotspot is the perfect place to stay in Mui Ne. It is smack bang right on the beach, which was definitely something we were lacking during our stay.

Staying Safe While Backpacking Mui Ne

Mui Ne is a relatively safe city to visit in Vietnam. Of course, it does have the exception of the many scams you will find in a lot of tourist towns and cities in Southeast Asia. This mainly revolves around robberies and pickpocketing.

In Vietnam motorbike snatch and grab is super common as well. Someone may see that your handbag, backpack, camera, or phone is not secure, so they will drive by on their motorbike and grab it.

One of the most commonly read scams in Mui Ne was actually people being pulled over by rouge police and demanding they get paid off to avoid filing a police report. These policemen will often hang out on the roads to and from the sand dunes and just pull over every single tourist that drives past.

As you can imagine they do make quite a bit of bank from this and it is a scam that has been operating for years. This was the main reason we decided against hiring a motorbike in Mui Ne as it simply wasn’t worth the stress (even though there are plenty of rental shops around).

The main thing to remember is to just use your common sense. This should keep you out of dangerous situations. I wasn’t scammed or taken advantage of once in Vietnam. Though I put this down to doing my research in advance and becoming familiar with common scams.

Hi Tasha very informative article. Just wanted to know if its important to do a sunrise tour or can we do a sunset tour also? Reason I will be in Mui ne for 24 hours only.

Avatar for Tasha Amy

Hi Juhi You don’t need to do the sunrise tour, plus not everyone is keen to get up that early. There are also tours in the morning and afternoon as well.

Avatar for Cal

hi there, lovey article! would you happen to have a link to the sunrise tour ?

Hi Cal, here is a link to book a private sunrise jeep tour , it is surprisingly affordable. Though if you are looking for a cheaper shared tour you will need to book it in Mui Ne either through your accommodation or one of the many travel agencies there. Hope you enjoy your visit!

Travis Kelce’s mom, Donna, hands out sandwiches at ‘New Heights’ live show — just like Taylor Swift’s dad did at Eras Tour

Travis Kelce’s mom and Taylor Swift’s dad are kindred spirits.

Donna Kelce was seen sweetly handing out sandwiches to fans at her sons’ “New Heights” podcast live show in Cincinnati Thursday — similarly to how Scott Swift did for his daughter’s Eras Tour in Australia.

The Swift patriarch snagged headlines in February when he was spotted feeding Swifties fruit and sandwiches from a food tray in Sydney, and could be heard saying at the time, “Help yourselves.”

Similarly, Donna, 71, passed out subs to 92 percenters — the name given to listeners of the “New Heights” podcast — while at Fifth Third Arena at the University of Cincinnati, which both her sons attended.

She could be heard in video obtained by Page Six, saying to fans, “Alright, here we go guys.”

However, unlike Scott, 72, the savvy businesswoman doled out sponsored sandwiches from Subway, as they were one of the official partners of the “New Heights Live: We Gotta Talk About It” show.

The fast food chain called the proud mom a “national treasure” via an Instagram Story from the event.

While at the event, Donna graciously posed for photos with fans, and at one point, stepped on the stage when Travis, 34, and Jason, 36, were honored with a surprise college graduation ceremony.

In video obtained by Page Six, she and ex-husband Ed Kelce were seen smiling and soaking it all in, as the Kansas City Chiefs tight end chugged a beer to commemorate the occasion.

Donna has smartly profited from her newfound fame with several sponsored content deals.

Over the past year, her Instagram has been inundated with posts promoting everything from food dip to the official wine of the NFL to yummy pizza . She even got to go on a cruise once.

Despite somewhat reaping the benefits of Travis and Taylor’s high-profile romance , Donna has remained very respectful and avoided commenting when the media has tried to pry her for details.

In October 2023, she candidly said on the “Today” show, “I don’t like to talk about it,” adding, “It’s another thing that’s amped up my life.”

Behind closed doors, though, Donna and the rest of the Kelce clan has started to bond with the Swifts.

In December 2023, Ed was seen hanging out with Taylor, Scott and her mom, Andrea Swift, in a suite for a Chiefs versus the Las Vegas Raiders game.

All of the parents then flew out to Sin City for the big Super Bowl game in February to celebrate.
