How to draft a NOC for your tourist visa application- Basics with a sample format.

Have you got a NOC?

Have you got stuck with this question whenever you wanted to apply for a tourist visa?

Well, let me help you through this. This article will let you know why you need a NOC and how you can get your NOC from your employer. So that's 1 less thing to worry about.

When starting your application, you get a checklist of documents you need to acquire from your copy of residence permit, your travel insurance, bank documents and whatnot. NOC or No objection certificate is mandatory for most tourist visa, including Schengen, U.S, U.K, especially if you’re a residing in a GCC country.

What is NOC?

This document verifies your employment in the organization, including your pay scale and confirms that you will be covering all your travel expenses and resuming your job after your travel.

Why you need a NOC for a tourist visa application?

“No intention to overstay in the country or strong ties to your country” This is one of the eligibility criteria for a tourist visa you must meet.

It is the prime responsibility of the embassy to make sure that the applicant would overstay their trip or stay illegally. Apart from your travel documents or bank statements, they would require an assurance from an authorized body that you have no intention to overstay and you have responsibilities back in your residing country and will return after your trip.

NOC is the official authorization letter that proves this which you have to get from your employer.

What all information should be included in a NOC?

When preparing your NOC, make sure to be specific. Now you don’t need to include the whole itinerary. The letter should be on company letterhead with the subject given as No objection letter for “your name”.

The content should convey that you’re an employee of that company with your designation, joining date and your passport number. Make sure to include your travel dates both departure and arrival, and the date of resuming at the office.

4 Tips to Write a No Objection Letter for Visa Applications

4 Tips to Write a No Objection Letter for Visa Applications

Getting a visa is critical to becoming a country's short-term or long-term resident. While getting a visa may be intimidating and exhausting, it's one of the most important things to get right when getting access to another country.

Whether staying for six months, ten years, or even a two-year residency, you'll need a visa to ensure that happens.

What Information Should You Include in Your No Objection Letter?

When writing a no objection letter (often shortened to NOC or no objection certificate) and dealing with getting your visa, you'll need many required documents to access and display at the embassy. The following information is required for eligibility for NOC letters and visas:

  • The name and contact information of the applicant, such as phone number and email address
  • Date of birth
  • The Name and address of the company or consular assisting with the NOC letter
  • Nationality and citizenship status
  • Signature of the company representative from the human resources department
  • Position title and total service period with the employer
  • Any other relevant information

You can find several templates online which make writing the letter manageable. Make sure you use the best template for your situation and not one for a permanent resident or J-1 Visa application.

Write a Cover Letter To Go With Your NOC Letter

A cover letter is a one-page document that explains why you're applying for a visa. It should briefly summarize your experience, qualifications, and any particular circumstances related to your application. A well-written cover letter can help convince an immigration officer that you will make an excellent addition to their country.

You might want to include the following information:

  • Why you are interested in emigrating or visiting the country (and not just passing through)
  • What skills, knowledge, and experience make you an ideal candidate (for example, if they have asked for a specific skill set)
  • Why this job opportunity or study program is vital to you, and what makes it different from other positions or programs available in your home country (if applicable)

How to Submit Your NOC Letter

You will likely need to set up an appointment with a consular section to submit your NOC letter. When you book an appointment online, you'll receive a confirmation email with instructions on preparing for your visit. Don't hesitate to contact the Consular Section at least 48 hours in advance if you need to change or cancel your selection.

The next step is to submit all the documents at the Embassy or Consulate during your appointment. Read the section below about preparing for your interview, and make sure you have all of these things with you:

  • Your passport
  • Your visa fee payment receipt (if applicable)
  • Your no objection letter
  • The cover letter (optional) if you included it in your application package from an organization that has sponsored you for this trip
  • Any documents required by the embassy/consulate, such as proof of financial support while in New York, Washington, DC, or wherever you plan to be

If you need help with the no objection letter requirement for your visa application, contact an immigration attorney. You can find an immigration attorney by searching for one through local bar associations and immigration organizations.

You will likely be charged a fee for their services. The time it takes to receive a response from an immigration lawyer depends on their schedule and availability. It's best to have all the necessary documents ready when you’re getting started, including identification documents such as passports and birth certificates; marriage certificates (if applicable); financial information such as bank statements; and proof of employment history.

Write With Formality

When it comes down to writing your no objection letter, one of the most critical steps in writing with a sense of poise, elegance, and formality means double-checking that you write with the best grammar, vocabulary, and language possible.

If you have a hard time writing in a language that is required, have a native speaker over it, or use a grammar and spelling checker. Professionalism is one of the essential aspects of writing a NOC letter.

What is a No Objection Letter?

A no objection letter is a document that states that a person is permitted to travel to the United States. It must be written by a host institution official, like an academic or business organization in the U.S., and provided in the language of its country of origin.

The letter must also state that the person has an itinerary for their visit, which includes dates and venues where they will be staying during their stay in America. The letter should also include:

  • An explanation about why this individual needs to come to America for their studies or work experience;
  • A description of how long they plan on staying there;
  • How long the person intends to stay abroad once they've completed their studies or returned home from their work assignment (if applicable)

There are a few different no objection letters, the most common being a NOC letter for students and a NOC letter for employees. They are most commonly used for foreign exchange visitors and people going after school or work initiatives. There are also NOC letters for tourism and explicit business purposes.

What is a Visa?

A visa is a government document that allows you to enter a country and stay there for a limited period. It is issued by the country's embassy in your home country, and you must apply for it before you travel to your destination.

A visa application is an application form for visas at embassies or consulates. It usually contains basic information about the applicant: Name, date of birth, and address. If you're applying for an e-visa (electronic visa), all other relevant details will be provided directly on the website where you fill out your application form.

A visa interview refers to an interview with an official from the embassy where you’ve submitted your visa application. This is where it’s decided whether to permit you to enter their territory. The official may also ask questions, including:

  • Why exactly do you want/need ____?
  • How long are you planning on staying there?
  • Do you have any ties or family members living there?
  • Will you return home after visiting this country?
  • Why do you think my visit will benefit both sides?

Traveling around the world is something that can be massively rewarding and beneficial. However, it is often a hassle to get everything to work when dealing with multiple countries, waivers, disclaimers, and invitation letters. Learning how each country works and dealing with them can be incredibly difficult.

How to Write a No Objection Letter for Visa Application?

How to apply for a US Visa

A No Objection Letter (NOL) is an essential document in the visa application process.

Apply Online

What is a No Objection Letter?

A No Objection Letter is a formal letter from your employer or educational institution, verifying that you are granted leave during the period of your travel and that they have no objection to your travel plans.

The purpose of the letter is to ensure that your responsibilities are covered during your absence and that you will return to resume your duties.

💡 Tip: Buy travel health insurance before your trip.

Check out popular travel insurance plans and choose one that suits you.

Most plans only cost less than $20 a day.

The letter must be formal and must include some crucial elements:

  • Letterhead : The No Objection Letter should be on the company’s or institution’s official letterhead, including the organization’s logo, address, and contact details.
  • Date : This is the date when the letter was written, not the date of the planned travel.
  • Addressee : It’s often addressed to the consulate or embassy where the visa application is being processed, but if you don’t know this information, you can simply address it as “To whom it may concern”.
  • Introduction : State who you are, your position, and the purpose of the letter.
  • Body : Here, you confirm that you have responsibilities at your job or your school/university, but that you have been granted leave and your absence will not cause any disruption.
  • Conclusion : Confirm that the organization has no objection to your travel plans and that they understand you will return to your responsibilities upon your return.
  • Closing : End the letter formally with a closing phrase like “Yours faithfully” or “Yours sincerely”, followed by your full name, position, and signature.

What is No Objection Letter and How to Get One?

What is No Objection Letter and How to Get One?

Nothing compares to the excitement of preparing for an overseas vacation, whether to Schengen countries or other international destinations. Everything else takes a backseat as we get busy planning shopping agendas, tourist places to visit, exotic meals to indulge in, and markets to explore.

That is why, it is important for your travel documentation to be just as impeccable as your in-trip plans. While visa applications, insurance, as well as airline and hotel reservation itineraries must be as per global requirements, let’s not forget the No Objection Certificate or NOC Letter!

What is an NOC Letter?

An NOC Letter is an official document, one page long, authorizing you to take leave from work or studies in order to spend time away from your home country. It tells Visa Officials that your visit is temporary and that you will return at the end of your stipulated stay.

While an NOC is mandatory only for a few Schengen countries, it is still advisable to get one arranged even if your particular destination does not ask for it. Doing so will improve your chances of getting the Schengen Visa, and also speed up the overall Visa Application Process.

Types of NOC Letters and How to Obtain Them

The type of NOC letter applicable to you depends upon whether you are an employee or a student. The content of the letter also differs accordingly.

NOC Letter for Employees

If you are an employee, you must request your Primary Employer or Senior Manager for the NOC Letter. Multinational corporations usually have an online process for managing NOC applications. In this case, a digitally stamped / signed NOC is delivered to you right into your inbox, which you can then print out. For smaller companies, you will have to meet your employer personally and get the NOC application process initiated. Here, the letters are usually hand-written.

NOC Letter for Students

If you are a student, you can approach your School Principal, Head of Department, or College / University Dean to obtain the NOC. If the trip is planned during academic workdays, then provide adequate assurance that you will cover missed classes and get up-to-date on your assignments within the given timelines.

Salient Features of an NOC Letter

The format of an NOC Letter is like a formal letter. It contains the: (1) date on which the letter is written, (2) address of the Visa Application Centre, (3) salutation and subject line, (4) body, (5) signature of the superior, (6) name, designation, and phone number of the superior along with company address.

No Objection Letter for Employees

The body of the letter should not be lengthy or complicated. It should only contain the superior’s affirmation that he/she does not have any objection towards you obtaining a Schengen Visa and that they trust your return to fulfill your obligations.

Also, since an NOC needs to address your travel dates, it is advisable that you have a flight itinerary and hotel reservation to prove your travel timelines. This will make your superior more acceptable to issuing the NOC.

Sample Letter of No Objection for Visa

Letter of no objection.

Usually, a dreaded stage for most people in the process of applying for a visa is the point where they are required to submit specific documents to support their application. It is normal to worry about these things and it is largely beneficial if applicants know what is required and not have to go back and forth for being unable to provide the needed documents in the proper format when required. A letter of No Objection, also referred to as No Objection Certificate or NOC for short, is one of the many documents that may be required for a visa. Throughout the period in which the letter will be valid, the bearer will not face any form of objection.

What is a No Objection Certificate?

A no objection certificate is a letter written by an employer or a school on behalf of an employee or a student planning to obtain a visa to travel to another country. The letter will state that the employee or student has obligations in their country to fulfill after the trip, thus, such a person will be returning as soon as the purpose of the visit has been accomplished.

Following this definition above,  there are two types of no objection letters. There are those given by an employer to an employee, and those given to a student by an institution.

NOC for Students

The letter of no objection for a student has to be issued by a qualified person at the institution. Such a person may be a recognized member of either the academic or administrative staff. This means it can be issued by an advisor, a head of department or the dean at a university.

NOC from Employer

In this case the no objection letter can be issued for two different purposes of visit; business or tourism. A person who intends to visit tourist attractions or family and friends will have to specify this purpose, so that the content will be different from the letter issued to a person who is traveling mainly for business.

Depending on the type and size of an organization, an employee can obtain this letter from various members of the organization. A person working in an organization may simply meet the boss to draft such a letter. For those working in large organizations, where access to top members of staff may not be practical, the Human Resources department will be the best option.

Why are Letters of No Objection required?

One may wonder why countries require these letters after already requesting many other documents. However, precedents set by former travelers to these countries is the reason these countries always want to establish that anyone traveling to their country has reasons to leave as soon as the stated purpose is accomplished.

There have been many cases of those who were granted visas to travel to foreign countries for a particular reason like education, business or tourism, who refused to leave these countries after the tenure of their stay elapses.

For this reason, many countries are wary of giving a visa to a person who might refuse to leave the country after the approved time, thereby causing problems for immigration officials in the country. People are usually more likely to stay in a foreign if they have nothing of note to return to in their own country. Thus, the need for the foreign country to see a letter from a reliable source confirming that the individual is obligated to return to their own country as soon as they have accomplished their purpose for traveling.

What information should be included in a Letter ?

The letter should contain information about the institution or organization issuing the letter to a student or an employee. The name of the individual representing the institution or the organization must be included, along with such person’s position at the institution or organization. Contact information such as email address and phone number(s) of the person issuing such letter should be included in the letter. The letter should also carry the address of the institution or organization, and it has to be signed by the issuer.

Also, information about the employee or student requesting such a letter must be included. For an employee, the name of the employee, the position of the employee at the organization, the identification card number of the employee on the identification card issued by the organization, how long the employee has worked for the organization, time span of the leave approved for the employee and the employee’s annual salary are all to be provided in the letter.

For a student, the name of the student, the student’s field of study, the student’s department, the date the student was admitted to the institution, the identification card number on the identity card issued by the institution and the dates the institution has approved as leave dates for the student are required to be included in the letter.

Noc for Schengen Visa

Noc for Schengen Visa

If you are applying or are considering applying for a Schengen visa, you have likely seen a list of the basic and supplemental documents you must submit as part of your visa requirements. While the Noc for Schengen visa applicants (also called a No Objection Certificate (NOC) is not officially on this list, including it on your application can significantly improve your chances of being approved for a visa. But what is a No Objection Letter, and Is the NOC compulsory for visa applicants to the Schengen area? Today’s blog will provide an overview of this often omitted yet helpful document. In addition to learning about the different types of No Objection Letters and the format of a No Objection Letter, you will also find the answers to critical questions including, “Why do we need a No Objection Certificate?” And, “How do you write a NOC no objection certificate?” And finally, “How to Obtain a Free No Objection Letter?” The answers to these and more questions are available below.

Overview of Schengen visa requirements

  • Passport
  • Two passport photos
  • Schengen visa fee
  • Schengen visa application form
  • Proof of having obtained travel medical insurance
  • Proof of accommodation (proof that you have a place to stay in the Schengen area)
  • Proof of financial subsidence (proof that you can financially afford your trip)
  • Proof of return (proof that you will ultimately leave the Schengen area)
  • Please note that the above list is not inclusive of supplemental documents, which are mandatory depending on what type of visa you will submit. For example, if you are applying for the “Visiting Family and Friends” type of Schengen visa, you will have to submit a letter from the family member or friend you are intending to visit in the zone. For a complete list of Schengen visa requirements, including in-person components such as biometric information submission and the interview—click here .

What is a No Objection Letter?

  • In brief, a “No Objection” is solicited by the applicant from his or her superior—such as a boss (if you work) or an educational facility (if you are a student) in your country of residence, which testifies that you will return there in order to fulfill whatever professional/educational responsibilities are outlined in the letter. Essentially, your superiors are saying that they have no objection to your trip to the Schengen area on the basis of their complete confidence that you will return to fulfill your obligations.
  • Is the NOC compulsory for a visa? No. As you can see from a quick glance, the No Objection Certificate (NOC) is not included on the above list of Schengen visa documents, which are mandatory for all applicants, regardless of the type of visa they are applying for.
  • At this point you may be asking yourself the following question: if the Noc for Schengen visa is not required, why do we need the No Objection Certificate? Ultimately, the “No Objection” letter falls on the list of non-mandatory, optional documents whose submission—while not required—increases your strength as a Schengen visa candidate.
  • The best Schengen visa candidates are those who are able to demonstrate the following: 1) That they do not present a security/criminal risk to the Schengen area and 2) That they will not overstay their visa. A “No Objection” letter acts as a guarantee of the former.
  • Unemployed non-students
  • Unmarried
  • Childless
  • Without significant social obligations
  • Applicants who live alone (i.e. not with a parent, partner, or wife)
  • Applicants who do not own their own home
  • If you fall into one of the categories on the above list, don’t be alarmed! Being unemployed or unmarried, for example, does not mean that you will be rejected for a Schengen visa. However, the fewer social and professional ties you have to your home country, the more likely you will be to overstay your visa (at least, according to the logic of the official who is reviewing your application).
  • Applicants who live with their parents or who are married with children are considered to have significant, deep-rooted ties to their home country, which they are judged to be less likely to abandon. Similarly, applicants who have steady, well-paying jobs and/or those who are enrolled in school are therefore considered less likely to want to abandon those professional responsibilities for an uncertain future as an illegal resident of the Schengen area.
  • As an applicant, many of your required and supplemental documents will reflect these social and professional ties. If you are employed, the financial documents that you submit toward demonstrating “proof of subsistence” will include evidence of the strength of your professional ties (for example, your submission of bank statements and pay stubs will help you prove that your job represents a significant source of income).
  • Requesting a “No Objection” letter from either your school or your workplace is therefore yet another way for you to emphasize your professional/educational roots in your home country.

Who writes the “No Objection” letter?

  • The “No Objection” letter is not written by you (the applicant), but by the person you designate to write it (a superior).
  • If you are a student, your advisor/professor will write it; if you are employed, your employer will write it.

How do you write a NOC no objection certificate?

  • Keep in mind that there are essentially two different types of No Objection Letters: “employed” and “student;” the one that you submit will depend on whether you are a student (and therefore unemployed) or an employed worker. The contents of the letter will depend on what type of NOC certificate you need.
  • Letter writer’s full name
  • Letter writer’s position at the company/business
  • Letter writer’s contact info (email/cellphone)
  • Company’s address
  • Applicant’s full name
  • Applicant’s position/role at the company/business
  • Salary of the applicant
  • How long the applicant has worked at the company in his/her current position
  • Statement of the applicant’s travel dates
  • Statement of the applicant’s purpose for travel
  • Letter writer’s full name
  • Letter writer’s position at the school
  • Letter writer’s relationship to the student
  • Year/semester the student is in
  • How long the student has been enrolled at the school
  • Student’s coursework/area of study
  • School vacation dates (if they correspond to the applicant’s travel dates)
  • School address

Format of a No Objection Letter

  • Letter should be typed, on official company/university letterhead if possible.
  • Contents of letter should be concise; avoid adding unnecessary information and stick to the facts.
  • The tone of your letter should be formal; address letter either “To Whom It May Concern” etc.
  • Letter should be manually signed by its author.

How to submit your “No Objection letter

  • Submit your “No Objection” letter along with the rest of your basic and supplemental documents as part of your complete Schengen visa application.

Please note that your submission of a “No Objection” letter is no guarantee that you will be approved for a Schengen visa. For more information about how to obtain a free No Objection Letter and for help assembling a winning Schengen visa application, contact us here .

Guide: How To Write A Schengen Visa NOC Letter From Employer

What is a schengen visa no objection letter (noc) from employer.

A Schengen Visa “No Objection Certificate (NOC)” (or Letter) from an employer is a letter written by one of the representatives of the company you are working for where it states that the company has no objection towards you taking a specific period off in order to travel to the Schengen Area.

The main purpose of a Schengen Visa NOC Letter from an employer or company is to state that the company you are working for agrees for you to take off the days for which you applied for the Schengen Visa and to assure that you are permitted to travel abroad.

For some Embassies/Consulates, this document is mandatory but others consider it optional. Visa applications that do not contain the No Objection Certificate will not necessarily be rejected by the Embassies/Consulates that do not find it mandatory.

However, we highly recommend you submit it for two reasons:

  • The NOC Letter from your employer increases your chance of approval
  • The NOC Letter can significantly speed up and streamline your Schengen Visa application process

Through the NOC letter for Visa purposes, the company you are working for not only declares that you are allowed to take some days or weeks off, but also assures that you have the necessary funds to support you through your trip/journey (in case you pay for the trip with your own money and you don’t have a sponsor ) and that there is a job that you will be returning to within your country of residence.

The No Objection Certificate must be written by a representative of the company you are working for (such as your manager, your supervisor, the president, or the vice president).

Most of the time, the NOC Letter can be requested via the personnel of the HR department.

You should submit the NOC Letter whether you are planning to travel for tourism, business purposes , or to visit family members.

Please note that there is a slight difference between a NOC letter and a leave approval , meaning that you must first have the permission from the company to take a certain period off ( leave approval ) before requesting the No Objection Certificate from your company.

Therefore, you should first make a leave request (the company can accept or deny your request, or it can propose a different period that you can take time off).

After your leave request has been approved, you can request a NOC Letter from your employer.

Although the NOC Letter is highly important for your Schengen Visa application process , please note that this is not the only document proving that you are employed.

For this reason, you must also submit your employment contract (submitting it is a mandatory requirement) and a Certificate of Employment (the certificate of employment is not mandatory for all the Embassies/Consulates but it is highly recommended to submit it).

To sum up, the main purpose of the NOC Letter is to prove that your employer allows you to travel abroad (the best way to think of it is as though your employer was vouching for you and your credibility to the Embassy/Consulate).

Are There Different Types Of No Objection Letters?

There are two basic types of No Objection letters: for employees (this guide) and students.

Therefore, the No Objection Certificate is extremely important for students as well.

If you are a student, you need to get this certificate from your school or university.

For further details, please feel free to check out our Guide – No Objection Letter for Students . (our article will provide you with complete and detailed answers to all of your questions, a NOC letter sample and template, and much more).

The Importance Of The No Objection Certificate (NOC) For Your Visa Application

Although submitting a NOC Letter from your employer is not mandatory for all the Embassies/Consulates when you apply for a Schengen Visa, this document is extremely important for the following reasons:

  • The consular officer(s) reviewing your application will get additional evidence of your intentions to return to your home country/country of residence (where you have contractual obligations).
  • It is another piece of validation that you are who you say you are (in simple words, the No Objection Letter provides proof that you actually are an employee who has received leave approval to travel to the Schengen Region for tourism or other purposes).
  • A trustworthy company that allows you to get a tourist Visa (or any other type of Visa) and travel abroad provides additional proof that you are an honest person with a clean background (and that you won’t break the laws of the country where you will be traveling).
  • It provides evidence that you have enough funds to support you during your journey (because the Visa officer(s) must ensure that you won’t be a burden to the country you are going to travel to).

How To Get A No Objection Letter (NOC) From Employer

Once your leave of absence is approved by your employer and you know for sure that your company allows you to travel over specific dates, you can request a No Objection Letter from the representatives of the Human Resources Department (or directly from your manager or supervisor – according to the organisation of your company).

You can request a No Objection Letter for employees by sending an email to those responsible for issuing it in which you mention the reasons why you need the certificate.

Below you will find some suggestions on how to write a letter addressed to the HR Department in order to request a No Objection Letter (if you work for a small company you might not need to send a request letter as you can ask for the certificate directly from your manager/supervisor):

  • Use the name of the person you are addressing the letter to. If you work for a big corporation you might not remember the name of the recipient (or maybe you just don’t know it). In this case, you are allowed to start the letter with “To Whom It May Concern” or “Dear Sir/Madam.”
  • Introduce yourself and mention the position you are covering within the company.
  • Explain the reason why you need a No Objection Letter (which is to get a Schengen Visa) and remind the recipient that your leave of absence was already approved and the period when you are going to travel abroad.
  • If you cover all of the travel and living expenses yourself, ask the HR personnel to mention this in the letter.

Here is a sample of how a No Objection Certificate request letter addressed to the Human Resources manager/department should look like:

Sample No Objection Certificate Request Letter

Dear [Name of Human Resources Manager] /Dear Human Resources Department/, Dear Sir/Madam, To Whom It May Concern,

I, [Your Full Name] , would like to visit [Name of the Schengen Country/s] from [ Beginning Date of your Trip] until [ End Date of Your Trip] , as my leave of absence for this period has already been approved.

I would highly appreciate it if you could write a “No Objection Certificate” (NOC) addressed to [Name of the Embassy/Consulate] located at [Address of the Embassy/Consulate] , in order for me to use it for my Schengen Visa Application.”

I would also kindly ask you to mention in the letter that all the expenses during my trip will be covered by myself.

Please feel free to contact me for further inquiries.

Kind regards,

[Your Full Name]

Common Mistakes To Avoid When Writing A Schengen Visa NOC Letter

Before submitting your documents to the Embassy/Consulate, it is highly recommended you double-check what the company representatives have provided, in order to be sure that you are not missing an important piece of information.

Below, you can find a list of common mistakes you must check before you submit the No Objection Certificate for Visa from your employer:

  • Not using a letter headed paper that includes the company’s logo.
  • Your leave dates outlined within the No Objection Certificate do not match your flight bookings or your day-to-day itinerary (you are allowed to leave the company one or two days before travelling as well as coming back to work one or two days after you return to your country of residence, but the difference between your leave dates and your flight bookings must not be significant).
  • The person writing the letter does not provide a signature or contact details (e.g., email address and phone number) at the bottom of the letter – These details are mandatory as the Visa officers might want to contact your company’s representatives for further inquiries.
  • Not highlighting that the travel and living expenses necessary during the trip/journey will be covered by the employee (the Visa applicant) – This must be mentioned if you cover the expenses yourself and you don’t have a sponsor who is funding your trip.
  • Not mentioning in the letter the salary you get (per month or per year).
  • Your passport details mentioned in the No Objection Letter do not match the ones on your passport.
  • Your name on the No Objection Letter does not match your submitted Passport or other documents, such as your hotel bookings or reservations, travel insurance , leave approval letter, etc.

30-Second Summary

Planning a trip to Europe and applying for a Schengen visa involves various documents, including a No Objection Certificate (NOC). The NOC for Indians proves that the traveller has commitments in their home country and intends to return after the Schengen visa expires.

This blog provides a comprehensive guide on:

The purpose of a NOC

Who needs it (employees and students),

Detailed steps for obtaining it from employers or educational institutions with samples.

Planning a trip to Europe comes with a lot of paperwork, from booking your flights to making sure you have the right travel insurance . One document you might need for your Schengen Visa Application is called a No Objection Certificate (NOC).

Here's a straightforward guide covering everything you need to know about NOC letter for Schengen visas.

What is a No Objection Certificate for Indians?

A No Objection Certificate (NOC) for Indians is a letter from your employer, school, or university. This letter confirms that you have work or educational commitments in your home country and that they have no objections to you travelling to the Schengen Area country. It shows authorities that you plan to return to your country after your visa expires.

This document, also known as a No Objection Letter for Visa or NOC, is additional proof, along with your flight and hotel reservations , indicating your intention to fulfil responsibilities in your home country. The NOC letter is not always mandatory, but some embassies may request an NOC as part of the visa application process.

Who Needs an NOC Letter for a Schengen Visa?

There are two kinds of No Objection Letters, depending on whether you are employed or a student:

NOC for Employees: The employer writes the NOC on behalf of the company for the employee applying for a Schengen Visa. The NOC confirms that the employee has work responsibilities, will return, and can financially afford the trip to Schengen countries.

NOC for Students: The NOC for students is written by a responsible figure at the university attended by the student, such as the Dean, Registrar, or Head of the Department. The letter states that the student applying for the Schengen Visa is currently studying at the university and is committed to returning to their home country to complete their studies. If a scholarship sponsors the student, the NOC may also mention the financial stability supported by the scholarship.

How to Obtain an NOC Letter from Your Employer or Educational Institution?

Obtaining an NOC letter for a Schengen visa from your employer or educational institution typically involves following a formal process. Here is a general guide on how to obtain an NOC:

For Employees:

Request in Writing or request a meeting: Write a formal letter to your employer requesting the NOC, or you can request a meeting with your employer. Clearly state the purpose for which you need the NOC.

Provide Details: Include your name, employee ID, department, and why you seek the NOC. Also, provide your employer with your travel dates and the purpose of your trip.

Justify Your Request: Explain why you need the NOC and how it will not interfere with your job responsibilities.

Attach Supporting Documents: Attach any documents or letters from the organisation or institution requesting the NOC if required.

Submit to HR or Relevant Department: Submit your letter to the HR department or the relevant department per your organisation's protocol.

Follow Up: Follow up with the concerned department to ensure your request is being processed.

Tip: Obtain a leave approval letter before requesting the No Objection Certificate for a streamlined process.

For Students:

For students, it's important to ask for permission from your professors or adviser to be excused from classes during your travel. Another easy option is planning your trip during university breaks and informing the necessary people about your plans. When you let your adviser know about your travel during a break, getting an NOC from them should be straightforward.

Write a Formal Letter: Draft a formal letter to the head of your educational institution requesting the NOC. If you are pressed for time, try to make an appointment instead.

Include Relevant Details: Provide details such as your name, student ID, course, and the purpose for which you need the NOC.

Mention Duration: If applicable, mention the duration for which you need the NOC.

Attach Supporting Documents: Attach any necessary documents, such as admission letters or job offers.

Submit: Submit the letter to the appropriate authority in your educational institution, such as the registrar or head of your department.

Follow-up: To ensure that your request is being processed and to obtain the NOC in a timely manner.

Tip: Schedule travel during university breaks, if possible, for easier No Objection Certificate approval.

Essential Details in an NOC Letter:

Regardless of whether the NOC letter is from an employer or educational institution, it should contain the following key details:

Date of Issue: The date on which the NOC is issued or written.

Personal Information: Full name, passport details, and other relevant personal information of the applicant.

Travel Details: Purpose of travel, destination within the Schengen zone, and the intended duration of the stay.

Employment/Educational Details : For employees, information about the current position, job responsibilities, and confirmation of continued employment upon return. For students, details of enrollment, course of study, and approval for the absence.

Declaration of No Objection: A clear statement from the employer or educational institution stating that they have no objections to the applicant's travel plans.

Contact Information: Contact details of the person issuing the NOC, including their name, designation, and contact number.

Organisation's Details: Name and address of the employer or educational institution.

Signature and Stamp: The official signature and stamp of the issuing authority for authenticity.

Letterhead: The letter should be on the official letterhead of the organisation.

No-Objection-Letter

Are you looking to elevate your communication skills and streamline your processes? Look no further! In this blog, we present you with a valuable resource that can transform your interactions: the No Objection Letter sample.

As an HR representative or employer, you often encounter situations where you need to provide formal consent or clearance to employees or external parties. The No Objection Letter or NOL serves as a powerful tool to facilitate smooth communication and ensure clarity.

Today, we provide you with a comprehensive No Objection Letter sample that will help you draft an effective and professional NOL, saving you time and ensuring consistency in your communication.

Note:You can download directly from here and edit as per your need.

Shall we start with the basics first?

A No Objection Letter (NOL), also known as a No Objection Certificate (NOC), is a formal document that expresses consent or clearance from one party to another.

The letter, as its name suggests, signifies that the author of the letter has no objections to a specific course of action, request, or proposal made by the recipient.

NOLs are commonly used in various scenarios, such as employment, education, immigration, travel, and business transactions.

These letters play a crucial role in facilitating effective communication and ensuring that all parties involved are aware of and agree to the terms and conditions outlined in the letter. NOLs are typically concise, well-structured, and written in a professional tone to convey consent and support while maintaining clarity and transparency.

Importance of a No Objection Letter

The importance of a No Objection Letter (NOL) cannot be overstated, as it serves several key purposes in various contexts.

Take a look at some reasons why NOLs hold significant value:

A no objection letter provides clear and explicit consent or clearance from one party to another. It ensures that all parties involved are on the same page regarding a specific course of action, request, or proposal. This eliminates ambiguity and prevents misunderstandings.

NOLs serve as official documents that can hold legal weight. They provide a written record of the author’s consent or clearance, which can be used as evidence in legal or administrative proceedings if necessary.

It also facilitates effective and efficient communication between parties involved in different transactions or processes. They streamline the flow of information, ensuring that all parties are aware of and agree to the terms and conditions outlined in the letter.

In certain situations, no objection letters are required to comply with specific regulations, policies, or procedures. For example, when an employee wishes to join a new company, an NOL from their current employer may be necessary to confirm their release or transfer.

By providing a formal and documented expression of consent, NOLs contribute to building trust and maintaining professionalism between parties. They demonstrate a commitment to transparency and cooperation, fostering positive relationships.

No objection letters play a crucial role in international dealings, such as visa applications, immigration processes, or international collaborations. They provide the necessary assurance and compliance required by different jurisdictions.

5 Benefits of A Well-Formatted No Objection Letter

Here are the five key benefits of a well-formatted NOL:

A well-formatted NOL ensures that the content is presented in a clear and organised manner. It uses appropriate headings, paragraphs, and bullet points to make the letter easy to read and understand. This clarity helps the recipient grasp the author’s intentions and consent without confusion or ambiguity.

A well-formatted NOL demonstrates professionalism and attention to detail. It showcases the author’s commitment to delivering a high-quality document and enhances their credibility. The use of proper formatting, such as consistent fonts, margins, and alignment, creates a polished and professional impression.

A well-formatted NOL follows a logical structure, allowing the information to flow smoothly from one section to another. It typically includes an introduction, main body, and conclusion, ensuring that the reader can easily navigate through the letter and find the necessary information. This structure helps to convey the author’s message effectively.

Effective formatting in an NOL can emphasise important points or key information. It may use bold or italicised text, underlining, or bullet points to draw attention to crucial details. This technique helps to ensure that the recipient focuses on the essential elements of the letter and facilitates a clear understanding of the author’s consent or clearance.

A well-formatted NOL contributes to the overall branding and image of the author or the organisation they represent. Consistent formatting, in line with the organisation’s branding guidelines, reinforces a professional and cohesive identity. It reflects positively on the author and enhances the perception of their professionalism and attention to detail.

Common Mistakes People Make While Writing NOLs

While writing a No Objection Letter, people often make several common mistakes. Some of them are as follows:

Lack of clarity

One common mistake is not being clear and specific in the letter. It should clearly state the purpose of the letter, the person or entity being granted the no objection, and any relevant details or restrictions.

Incomplete information

Failing to include all the necessary information, such as the name, address, and contact details of the person or organisation issuing the letter, can lead to confusion and may render the letter ineffective.

Incorrect format

Not following the appropriate format for a No Objection Letter can make it appear unprofessional and may lead to it being rejected or disregarded. It is important to use a proper business letter format and include a professional tone.

Lack of supporting evidence

Sometimes, individuals fail to provide sufficient supporting evidence to back up the no objection statement. Depending on the purpose of the letter, including relevant documents or explaining the rationale behind the no objection can strengthen the letter’s credibility.

Inadequate proofreading

Neglecting to proofread the letter for grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors can undermine its professionalism and clarity. It is essential to carefully review the letter before sending it to ensure accuracy and eliminate any potential misunderstandings.

Superworks

Using ambiguous or vague language in the letter can lead to confusion or misinterpretation. It is crucial to be precise and specific in conveying the intent of the letter, leaving no room for misunderstandings.

Lack of authorization

In some cases, a No Objection Letter needs to be authorised or signed by an authorised person or department. Failing to obtain the necessary authorization can render the letter invalid or unenforceable.

Insufficient contact information

Not providing adequate contact information, such as phone numbers or email addresses, can make it difficult for the recipient to seek clarification or follow up if needed. Including complete contact details is important for effective communication.

How to Write No Objection Letter?

Follow this general guideline to write No Objection Letter effortlessly:

Begin by placing the name and address of the organisation issuing the no objection letter at the top.

Below the header, provide the recipient’s name, address, and any other relevant identification details.

Start the letter with a polite and formal introduction, addressing the recipient by their appropriate title or name.

Clearly state that the organisation has no objection to the specific request, action, or proposal made by the recipient. Be concise and direct in expressing consent or clearance.

Provide relevant background information related to the request or situation to give context to the letter. This may include the purpose, duration, or any specific details related to the request.

If there are any conditions or limitations associated with the no objection letter, clearly outline them in a separate section. Be specific and provide any necessary details or instructions.

Include contact details of the organisation or the authorised person issuing the NOC. This allows the recipient to reach out for further clarification or follow-up if needed.

End the NOC with a formal closing, such as “Sincerely” or “Best regards,” followed by the name and designation of the person issuing the letter. It is customary to include their signature and date below the closing.

Depending on the circumstances, you may choose to get the letter notarized or stamped for additional authenticity. This is especially relevant for legal or official purposes.

Absolute Guide on No Objection Letter For Schengen Visa

Planning a visit to Europe sounds fun. But before getting to the fun part, you must go through the dreaded nightmare of applying for the Schengen Visa. More often than not, the only document that stands between a visa approval and a rejection is the No Objection Letter for Schengen Visa.

Albeit not-so-widely known, a well-prepared No Objection Letter for Schengen Visa goes all the way up to ensure that you obtain the approval without any last-minute hassles, provided all the other documents qualify. Now, if you’re wondering how to get a No Objection Letter so that your application does not get rejected at any cost, read on.

WHAT IS THE NO OBJECTION LETTER FOR SCHENGEN VISA?

The No Objection Letter is, simply, a letter from your employer or from your university (and sometimes, your kids’ schools), that state that you have certain long-term commitments and obligations in your home country that you can’t afford to abandon and that you’ll be returning once your visit period is over.

You might already know that most countries are greatly concerned about the refugee problems and illegal immigration to their homelands. Refugee issues have even caused many political developments in Europe, such as an increasing support for Britain’s exit from the European Union. So, this No Objection Letter for Schengen Visa from your employer or educational institution guarantees your visa issuing officer that you’re planning to return to your home country after your visit and that you’re not going to be, in any way, a burden for their country.

Also, your primary purpose of keeping the NOC, along with the rest of the documents, is that you stand higher chances of getting your visa approved.

DO YOU REALLY REQUIRE A NO OBJECTION LETTER FOR SCHENGEN VISA?

Maybe no, in some cases. Note that the ‘No Objection Letter for Schengen Visa’, also known as No Objection Certificate or NOC, is not included as a mandatory document in applying for Schengen Visa in many countries. However, if you are from a third-world country or stigmatised nation, the Schengen embassies are more than likely to decline your visa application, killing off all your dreams of travelling in Europe before even they’re born. This is where the No Objection Letter becomes so important in increasing your chances of the visa approval.

Basically, this document is beneficial for anyone travelling to the Schengen area for a temporary period, as it acts as a factor of assurance and trust by the foreign embassy of the country you plan to visit. The trust factor arises from the fact that you’re given a voluntary ‘no objection’ from the department you’re working with or from your institution, indicating that they have no issues with you leaving the country for a few months. Otherwise, you may be just be trusted with a grain of salt, simply due to the long duration of your travel.

HOW TO GET YOURSELF A NO OBJECTION LETTER?

It depends on whether you’re working or pursuing your studies. Depending on this, you can get your No Objection Letter for Schengen Visa from your employer or the educational institution.

Your employer or educator would, most probably, be supportive of you going abroad for a tour. They may also be more than likely to help you in obtaining the visa. So, getting an NOC should be fairly simple and easy. On the other hand, you wouldn’t want a poorly-drafted No Objection Letter to be attached while applying for the Schengen Visa. So, it is best if you draft the letter by yourself and get it duly signed and sealed by your employer/head of the institution.

THINGS TO REMEMBER WHILE DRAFTING A NO OBJECTION LETTER

There are certain important things that you need to remember while drafting your NOC. The most important of these are listed below:

Keep it formal:  Since the No Objection Letter for Schengen Visa is sent to the visa officials who screen you thoroughly before approving your application, professionalism is the way to go!

Do not be too descriptive:  You don’t have to be too advanced in the use of your language or extremely narrative, which of course would give them an impression that you’re cooking up some false stories. So, a short and simple letter plays a big role in giving you the outlook of a trustworthy person.

Start with a standard greeting:  Addressing the reviewing authority with a standard greeting, like “Dear Sir/Madam” is more suited for the type of formal letter that you’re drafting for the No Objection Letter.

Have a simple subject line:  It is best if you keep the subject line as short and easy to understand, such as “No Objection Letter” or “No Objection Letter for Schengen visa”. This way, the reviewing officer can simply skim through your letter to know what it is about.

Sign off using the full name and address of the employer/NOC issuer:  Even though it maybe you, who’s drafting the whole letter, it is critical that you write on behalf of your employer or institution from where you’re getting the NOC. So, you might need to include the full name of your employer and complete address of the company that is issuing the no objection letter to you. This way, the embassy officials can easily find your company or organisation, if in case they’re in need of a quick background verification.

Get it duly signed and sealed from your organisation:  The sign from your employer, along with the official seal of your company, in fact, seals the trust. So, ensure that you don’t miss out on that, at any cost.

In case, you’re afraid to draft the content for the letter or you’re reluctant to do so, you can also find a lot of templates for the No Objection Certificate online. However, most of them are not specifically drafted for Schengen Visa Applications. So, you need to be really careful about selecting the right templates from the internet and drafting them for Schengen Visa application according to the guidelines that were mentioned above.
