Environmental Science on the Three Rivers

Grades: 4–12 | Program Length: 3 Hours or 4.5 Hours | Cost: $15 / Student (3 Hours); $25 / Student (4.5 Hours) Availability: March–December

Starting with the construction of a hypothesis on the health of the rivers, students test their theory by applying scientific principles. Using living and nonliving indicators of water quality, students analyze and correlate their results with industrial and photographic records of the historical land use of Pittsburgh’s river valleys. The process serves as a springboard for exploring issues of current land use and river health, sustainability, and green design.

Classroom registration includes usage of the Captain’s Science Resource Chest and complimentary admission for the companion Act 48 workshop (one teacher included for every 30 registered students.)

This program offers a great way to experience the city—past and present!

It’s Alive!

Grades: K–3 | Program Length: 2 Hours | Cost: $13.50 / Student Availability: March–December

Even the youngest of students can discover the scientific world around them in this hands-on program that focuses on aquatic animal adaptations and the dynamic river food chain. Using microscopes and binoculars, students will search for life in and along our rivers—from plankton to birds of prey! All the while, these junior naturalists will be discovering the interconnected web of life that relies on a healthy ecosystem.

Senator John Heinz History Center Questions & Answers

pittsburgh factory tours

No factory tour, but a whole room dedicated to Heinz ketchup, pickles and more. It is cool.

pittsburgh factory tours

If there is a factory tour it was not near history center and no one mentioned one

No tour but a big section on the ketchup with videos of old commercials.

pittsburgh factory tours

No you have to go around yourself

pittsburgh factory tours

The Heinz History Center has an extremely interesting and thorough exhibit about Heinz Ketchup and other products. I learned a lot and even earned a mini ketchup bottle pin by climbing the stairs to each level!

I don’t think there’s a factory tour anywhere.. the Heinz exhibit is very interesting. Purely a history museum. All exhibits are very well done.

pittsburgh factory tours

Not at this location. This is a History Museum. Nothing is actually manufactured at this location. There is a lot of history about the Heinz Ketchup Company...how it was started and items from the past. Really interesting if you take the time to read the signage. A lot of time, effort and knowledge went into this museum.

pittsburgh factory tours

Oh no. This is truly a HISTORY MUSEUM and it is top drawer. Be sure and allow plenty of time for the tour. I allowed 4 hours and I could have done twice that. ( Ok, I am a little nerdy).

pittsburgh factory tours

I don’t believe so

Not here at the museum. Check website to see if there is a factory with tour.

pittsburgh factory tours

I am not sure if there is a factory tour anywhere. This is a history museum.

pittsburgh factory tours

No, this is a history museum. There is a display of Heinz products.

I am not sure if there is or not.

Aerosmith will return to Pittsburgh when the legendary rock band resumes their "Peace Out" farewell tour later this year.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers are scheduled to perform at PPG Paints Arena on Friday, Sept. 20, featuring special guest Teddy Swims in a one-night-only performance.

Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday morning at ticketmaster.com .

Fans can expect to hear their favorite songs from a lengthy catalog that includes classics like "Dream On," "Sweet Emotion," "Crazy," "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing," "Love in an Elevator," "Janie's Got a Gun" and "Livin' on the Edge."

"Every night will pay homage to the five decades of Aerosmith's groundbreaking hits as they celebrate 50 years as America's greatest rock band," the tour announcement said.

The Pittsburgh show kicks off the rescheduled "Peace Out" tour, which was postponed last year due to lead singer Steven Tyler's vocal injury. Aerosmith performed at PPG Paints Arena on Sept. 6, just days before the band put the tour on hold.

Little Big Town, joined by Sugarland, picks Pittsburgh date for Take Me Home tour

PITTSBURGH ― Little Big Town brings its Take Me Home Tour to PPG Paints Arena on Nov. 1.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at littlebigtown.com .

Little Big Town will be supported by Sugarland. The two country groups shared the stage at Sunday night's CMT Music Awards performing "Take Me Home," for which their tour is named.

Little Big Town – comprised of Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Phillip Sweet and Jimi Westbrook – is a Grammy Award-winning group known for hits like "Pontoon" and "Little White Church."

Sugarland achieved platinum-selling success with songs "All I Want to Do" and "Stuck Like Glue."

The Castellows, a trio comprised of sisters Ellie (lead guitar), Powell (banjo) and Lily (vocals), will kick off the Pittsburgh show.

Little Big Townand Sugarland’s televised rendition of “Take Me Home,"originally written and released by Phil Collins in 1985, served as a monumental homecoming for the two country music acts. The groups last shared the CMT Awards stage in 2008 for a rousing rendition of “Life In a Northern Town,” originally a Dream Academy song with a popular MTV video that showed 1960s Aliquippa and Hopewell Township footage.
