All the tourist attractions are ten to forty kilometers away from Gonikoppal town. The role Gonikoppal is as a cheaper and safer pit stop for visiting the tourist places. 4. Subramanya-Kumara Parvatha Trek – Climb The Peak

The trek route falls in the Pushpagiri reserve forest area quite close to Kukke Subramanya. And it is easily accessible from Karnataka. You can camp near Bhattrumane region but the campfire is strictly prohibited by the forest dept. 5. Pushpagiri Trek – Picturesque Views
Pushpagiri also referred as Kumara Parvatha, is located at an altitude of 5626 meters above sea level. A trek here is so fulfilling in itself, and the fact that Pushpagiri is the second highest peak of Kodagu District makes it a coveted place to explore. The peak is placed 36 km from Somwarpet and 1.5 km from Kumaralli and makes for an exciting journey for every trekker. With forest all around and enchanting views of mountains visible at a distance, you couldn’t have asked for anything more.
Pushpagiri sits towards the northern frontier of Coorg. The peak can be accessed through Beedehalli through the Heggademane Temple . Also, you can access Beedehalli by road from Coorg. Somwarpet a Madikeri at a distance of about 30 km. You could explore the wide expanse of the Pushpagiri Wildlife sanctuary upon your visit here, and can be accessed from Madikeri town. A perfect trek it is when you are in Coorg or Madikeri.

6. Kotebetta Trek – Beautiful Grasslands
Kotebetta Peak is popularly recognized as the Fort Hill in the Coorg region. It happens to be the third highest peak in the Coorg making for a perfect trekking spot for the nature lovers. Madhapur marks as the starting point of the trek which happens to be a small municipality located some 15 km from Madikeri. The trek begins at the village and takes through the plantation trails, forest, and further open grasslands.
October to March is the perfect time to go on the Kotebetta Trek. Take a guide along, it is highly recommended. It is highly recommended that you carry your own tent & sleeping bag for the trek routes that include 2 days of walking. Also, before you start for the trek from the base camp do carry packed lunch and enough water. There aren’t too many hotels or homestays in the course of the treks. You may also have to seek permission from the Forest Department before starting most of these treks.

7. Brahmagiri Hills Trek – Walking Among Clouds
Brahmagiri Hills is a mountain range from the Western Ghats in Southern India. The highest point of the range is at the elevation of 1,608 meters and is one of the highest peaks of Karnataka. This peak also shares the border with Kerala. The term ‘Brahmagiri’ means ‘Abode of Lord Brahma’. Virajpet is a hill town, situated in the Coorg district of Karnataka. The place is popular with nature lovers and has numerous hills and lakes that are worthy of exploration. Many temples in the region also attract thousands of devotees from all across the state. Virajpet is located at a distance of about 240 kilometers from Bengaluru and holds the unique distinction of being the largest honey producing center in Asia. Below, we look at some of the places you should visit near Virajpet.
Sightseeing near Virajpet
Perambady lake.
This scenic lake is a favorite picnic spot for many visitors who come with family. The place makes for a good relaxation destination and is covered with a canopy of trees all around. The atmosphere is so calm that you can see a clear reflection of the hills in the waters of the lake.
Gonikoppal is the headquarters of the Coorg Adventure Club, and is a must visit place if you want to spend your holidays participating in some adventure sports like windsurfing, para-sailing, paragliding and so on. The town is situated approximately 17 kilometres away from Virajpet .

Famous for its coffee and tea plantations, Pollibetta is the place to visit if you are looking to relax and laze around. The estates are managed by the Tata Group and the tiny cottages make for a cozy place to stay and recharge. Additionally, there is a Buddhist temple located nearby which you can visit in case you suddenly feel spiritual.

Located 58 kilometres from Virajpet, Talakaveri is a popular pilgrimage destination for many people. The region is considered to be the source of the River Kaveri. The temple of Talakaveri (Talacauvery) is dedicated to Goddess Kaveriamma. A series of steps will take you to the top, from where you can view the scenic mountain backdrop cloaked in mist.

Built almost a century ago to commemorate the visit of King George V, the clock tower is one of the most well-known landmarks near Virajpet. Check out the tower if you ever pass by the town. A Ganesha temple also exists nearby the tower.
Ayyappa Temple

This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located on the Malethirike hill. From the hilltop, you will get a bird’s view of entire Virajpet. This is a very popular religious place and is often packed with devotees all year long.

Located near the Kaveri River, Siddapura is known for the numerous coffee plantations and paddy fields which adorn the region. A place most visitors check out when in Siddapura is the Dubare Forest Reserve , which is an elephant camp. You can also visit the Burude Waterfalls , which flows through in two tiers and five steps. Siddapura is located about 15 kilometres from Virajpet.

Regarded as one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the region, it is surrounded by lush coffee plantations. In the local language, it is known as ‘Embepara,’ which translates to ‘Tortoise Rock.’ Also, just 2 kilometres from the place is the scenic Chomakund Hill, which is covered in fog most of the year.
St. Anne’s Church

Constructed in the European – Gothic style in 1792, St Anne’s Church is surrounded by paddy fields all around, while the Malethirke Hill acts as the perfect backdrop. The 180 feet steeple will remind you of a huge candle.
A very famous temple near Virajpet, the presiding deity is sacred for the residents of Kodavu and is said to be the Lord of Rains. According to legends, the deity of the temple is a form of Lord Subramanya and is depicted as a serpent with an open hood. The temple was built in 1153 CE and is located on top of a hill in Kakkabe. The carvings on the temple depict the daily lives and culture of the Kodavas .
Thadiyandamol
About 30 kilometres from Virajpet is the famed Thadiyandamol hills, which is one the biggest in the entire state of Karnataka. The hills are covered by thick forests and numerous streams, and makes for a fine trekking spot. At the bottom of the hills is the Nalknad Palace, which was built in 1792 and is adorned with beautiful paintings
This is a well-known bird watching spot and is located approximately 7 kilometres from Virajpet town. In addition to the birds, the thick forestry is also home to some amazing wildlife. The place also has some of the world’s most ancient war trenches, a few of which have been dated as far back as 888 CE. If you’re looking for a religious getaway, you can head over to the Bhagavathi Temple or the Ganesha Temple nearby. Originally the forest area was the private hunting ground for the Maharajas of Mysore. The Western Ghats Nilgiri sub-cluster of 6,000 Sq. km, including all of Nagarhole National Park, is under consideration by the UNESCO World Heritage for World Heritage Site status. Nagarhole is among the most popular places to visit near Bangalore , especially for wildlife buffs. This national park gets its name from two Kannada words Naga means snake and Hole means stream. Many serpentine streams flow through the rich tropical forests of the park, which has now been renamed as the Rajiv Gandhi National Park, after the late prime minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi. Nagarhole is situated to the north-west of Bandipur National Park which are separated by Kabini reservoir. The park has rich forest cover, small streams, hills, valleys, and waterfalls. Inside the park, coracle riding facility is available in Kabini River. The important animals in Nagarhole National Park are tiger, leopard, wild dog, sloth bear, hyena, spotted deer, sambar, barking deer, four-horned antelope, gaur, wild boar, and elephant. Among reptiles, the marsh crocodile, monitor lizard, rock python, and several other species are represented. Other mammals include the common langur, bonnet macaque, jungle cat, slender loris, leopard-cat, civet cat, mongoose, common otter, giant flying squirrel, giant squirrel, porcupine, jackal, mouse-deer, hare, and pangolin. Over 250 species of birds are found at Nagarhole National Park. It can also be visited along with Mysore tour packages . The park is usually closed for safaris during peak monsoon. Traffic movement is restricted from 6 pm to 6 am every day and the gates are closed on either side of the entry into the forest. Two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and goods vehicles are not permitted inside the park. Safaris are organized in the forest department vans during the morning and evening.
