1. Take a dip at the first rooftop swimming pool in an airport

Squeeze in some time for a swim—yes, the vacation truly never ends when there are fun things to do at Changi Airport!

Hands up if you miss taking a dip in the pool while waiting for your flight at Changi! If you didn’t already know, the rooftop swimming pool located within Aerotel Airport Transit Hotel is the first swimming pool in an airport, and you can pay to use the pool even though you’re not a hotel guest. Apart from the pool, it also features a jacuzzi, poolside bar and shower facilities. Head down to the pool to squeeze in a refreshing dip! Simply make your way from the departure or transit area of Terminal 1!

2. Catch a movie at our theatres with free screenings

Feeling bored? Catch a free movie at Changi Airport’s in-house movie theatres at Terminal 3.

If you’ve visited Changi, chances are you would have taken the Skytrains to move between the terminals. With them, travel time is shortened by half compared to walking—especially useful if you’re rushing for your flight because every minute counts. Jump between the different Skytrains and explore the different terminals! They connect Terminals 1, 2 and 3 at both the public and transit areas.

Pro-Tip: Take the public area Skytrains between Terminals 2 and 3 to get up close to the HSBC Rain Vortex in Jewel!

Climb@T3 features an eight-metre-high rock climbing wall, complete with nine different climbing routes of varying difficulties. 7. Meet some dinos in Jewel-rassic Quest

Here's an AR game not to be missed by dino-lovers!

Make your way to Jewel's Level 1 Concierge Counter and embark on a prehistoric journey with the Jewel-rassic quest . As if you stepped into a time machine, get transported back a staggering 89 million years into the past when colossal dinosaurs ruled the Earth. These larger-than-life creatures come to life amidst the lush greenery of the Shiseido Forest Valley via augmented reality.

Engage in thrilling things to do like hunting for dino eggs, unearthing fossils, and even meeting cast members from the Jurassic Franchise! Your little ones are in for a day of fun as they explore Jewel (even the Canopy Park), determined to spot all the captivating dinosaurs that await their discovery.

8. Visit the first Butterfly Garden in an airport

Witness the fluttering of beautiful butterflies in Changi Airport’s Butterfly Garden at Terminal 3.

Ahh... Changi's famed Butterfly Garden. Hidden in a discreet corner of Terminal 3’s transit area, the Butterfly Garden is the world’s first in an airport. In its full glory, you will see more than 1,000 butterflies from 30 to 40 species native to Southeast Asia. Apart from butterflies, the garden features blooming flowers, lush greenery, and even a six-metre-tall grotto waterfall. It is also where you can witness the butterfly metamorphosis . Look out for the many cocoons maturing in the cage, you might even catch some butterflies emerging from their cocoons if you are lucky!

9. Check out some unique cactus species at the Cactus Garden

Located at level 3 of Terminal 1 at Changi Airport, the Cactus Garden is a rooftop garden that boasts some of the finest views in town.

You may not be a fan of Singapore’s hot climate, but these guys definitely are! Here at Changi, we don’t just bring you all over the world, we bring cacti from all over the world for you too! There are more than 100 species of unique cacti at the Cactus Garden at Terminal 1, including various forms of Cycads – a hardy survivor of the dinosaur era – and other interesting cacti like the Golden Barrel cactus, Old Man Cactus, and the giant Ponytail palm trees. You can even see some edible apple cactus and prickly pear cactus too! There is bound to be a cactus here that prickles your fancy if you're trying to find fun things to do to kill time.

10. Be enthralled by Terminal 2's latest garden Dreamscape

Dreamscape features a digital sky and many upstanding rock and plant structures, and is a great spot for a brief respite.

Dreamscape is one of several digital installations we have all around Changi Airport. If you ever need a breather, step into Dreamscape at Terminal 2 and admire the digital sky, greenery and fish pond. Occasionally, the digital sky even turns into a thunderstorm, where you'll find hidden surprises such as a sampan boat passing by. Make sure to also step onto the elevated pond and look beneath your feet! The pond is built using transparent acrylic so you can spot all the different fishes swimming beneath you.

11. Admire the mesmerising Kinetic Rain

See if you can spot the different shapes that the Kinetic Rain at Terminal 1 installation can transform into.

There are many art installations in Changi Airport, but one of the favourites in Terminal 1 has got to be Kinetic Rain. Located at the Departure Hall, you wouldn’t miss this giant sculpture made up of 1,216 bronze droplets moving in perfect harmony. Watch closely and you’ll find that the sculpture transforms elegantly into multiple shapes – 16 in fact, ranging from an aeroplane, a hot air balloon, to even a dragon! Travellers around the world stop by the Kinetic Rain to be mesmerised by its deliberate, fluid movements.

Some have even told us that it calms and relaxes them! Watch the Kinetic Rain in motion, a treat for you, no matter where you are.

12. Admire the stunning Wonderfalls

The digital waterfall – Wonderfalls - located in Terminal 2’s Departure Hall, is a sight to behold.

Let's face it, air travel is not equivalent to a trip to the spa (unless you’re at Changi 😉). Rushing for flights, security screening, layovers and delays can be stressful experiences, and that’s where our stunning art installations come into play. Art can have a calming effect on stressed-out passengers.

However, even if you are not a stressed-out passenger, you can still enjoy the beautiful art installations we have on display in the airport! Our latest installation at Terminal 2, the Wonderfalls, is a four-storey tall digital waterfall that will be sure to make you go “WOW”. Be sure to catch the special four-minute show that plays every 30 minutes to see our waterfall in all its glory.

13. Marvel at the enthralling Petalclouds

Admire the Petalclouds at Changi Airport Terminal 4, another kinetic structure worthy of a click.

“Petalclouds,” a kinetic art sculpture at Changi Airport Terminal 4, is inspired by the design theme of orchid petals found everywhere in the terminal. This massive dynamic artwork, which spans 200 metres across the Central Galleria, comprises six “floating clouds" which are a perfect marriage of art and technology. You will be mesmerised as you observe the fluid movement of the art piece moving in tandem with the classical music specially composed by BAFTA award-winning composer, Ólafur Arnalds. It truly is a moving experience (no pun intended).

14. Relax by the majestic HSBC Rain Vortex

No matter how many times you’ve seen it, the HSBC Rain Vortex at Jewel never gets old.

The icon of Jewel Changi Airport is a spectacle to behold both in the day and at night. During the day, you will be enchanted by the sunlight catching the water as the mighty cascade flows 40 metres down to the basement. Come night, you will be dazzled by the display of lights and sounds as the fountain transforms into a magical show. Cooped up at home for too long? The HSBC Rain Vortex and the surrounding Shiseido Forest Valley are great places to head out to for a breath of fresh air.

Singapore’s Changi Airport debuted its Jewel Mall in 2019, and ever since then, it has unanimously held the title of the best & most beautiful airport in the world – And for a good reason! 

One visit to Singapore Airport and you’ll have to agree, that Changi is truly an airport of the future. 

I live in Bali and I get the chance to visit Singapore’s Changi Airport frequently on layovers during trips between the USA, where I’m from, and Indonesia.

From rock climbing walls, bouncing nets, slides, hedge mazes, endless luxury shopping, an indoor forest, and not to mention Singapore Airport’s waterfall which recirculates  10,000 gallons of water per minute  – Changi Airport is more of an experience than just a transportation hub.

All About The Jewel Mall At Singapore Airport 

The Jewel Mall is the centerpiece of Singapore’s Changi Airport, and it’s home to the iconic HSBC Rain Vortex Waterfall.

The Jewel Mall is actually open to all of Singapore Airport, meaning it’s technically not located within the airport itself, and you need to go through airport security to reach it. 

That being said, it’s still very easy to get to the Jewel Mall from any terminal at Singapore Airport. Keep reading for more info!

Can You Visit Singapore’s Jewel on a Layover? 

Yes! The Jewel is incredibly easy to visit on a layover at Singapore Airport. 

Even though you need to technically enter the country of Singapore in order to visit the Jewel Mall at Changi Airport, Singapore offers visa-free entry to many countries. 

Singapore Airport is organized in a way to make it as easy as possible to go through customs and immigration and reach the Jewel from all airport terminals.

How to Get to Singapore Airport’s Jewel Mall 

The Jewel Mall is right across the street from Terminal 3. 

If you’re coming from Terminal 2, you can take the AirTrain to Terminal 3 to reach the Jewel Mall, and if you’re coming from Terminal 4 there will be a free shuttle bus provided. 

Do You Need to Go Through Customs to Visit the Jewel at Singapore Airport? 

The most important thing to know about visiting the iconic Jewel Mall at Singapore Airport is that  you do have to go through customs and immigration , no matter which terminal you’re coming from! 

Customs, Immigration, and Security are all super fast at Singapore Airport – It only took me 45 minutes from landing to get to the Jewel Mall, and then 20 minutes to go through security when it was time to go. 

💡  Tip!  It’s important you factor in time to go through Customs, Immigration, and Security when visiting the Jewel Mall at Singapore Airport on your layover! 

34 Best Things To Do In Singapore Airport (Changi)

1. Admire The HSBC Rain Vortex Waterfall (Jewel) 

The HSBC Rain Vortex is the crown jewel of Singapore’s Changi Airport.

The Rain Vortex, also known as the Singapore Airport Waterfall, is the largest indoor waterfall in the world. 

Standing 130 feet and seven stories tall – the Rain Vortex goes through 10,000 gallons of recirculating rainwater every minute. 

From the moment you step into the Jewel Mall at Singapore Airport, you won’t be able to miss the Rain Vortex! It’s directly in the center of the building, with the entire mall built around it, so everywhere has a great view of the falls. 

2. Enjoy The Shiseido Forest (Jewel)

The Shiseido Forest is the mass of greenery that surrounds Changi’s Jewel Waterfall. The forest is home to over 3,000 indoor trees and 60,000 shrubs of over 120 species of flora! 

Even though the Jewel is arguably the most popular attraction in all of Singapore, you can always find a quiet moment in the Shiseido Forest due to the way it was designed with staggered balconies and walkways, it was nice to take a second and get some peace in the forest!

3. Come Night, Enjoy the FREE Sound & Light Show at the Rain Vortex (Jewel) 

Every night (weekdays at 8 & 9 PM, weekends 8, 9, &10 PM) there is a free sound and light show at the HSBC Rain Vortex waterfall.

The show features images projected onto the waterfall, lighting up the Rain Vortex and creating an immersive experience for all visitors.

If you’re going to be at the Jewel Mall at night, it’s a not-to-miss activity! 

4. Have a Blast at Canopy Park (Jewel, Canopy Park)

Canopy Park, besides the Jewel Waterfall, is the main attraction at Singapore’s Changi International Airport.

Canopy Park is located on the top floor of the airport, and it is a paid attraction – That being said, it’s well worth the money! 

For around $40 US dollars (different prices for Singapore locals and internationals), I was able to entertain myself for over 2 hours on my layover at Singapore International Airport. 

The attractions at Canopy Park include two mazes, a glass viewing bridge, slides for the kiddos, and a bouncing net suspended 23 meters over the airport! 

5. Admire the Instagrammable Floral Displays at Petal Garden (Jewel, Canopy Park) 

Strolling through Canopy Park on the 4th floor of Singapore Airport, you won’t be able to miss the adorable flower sculptures at Petal Garden that line the pathway in between the more adventurous attractions. 

6. Take a Stroll on the Canopy Bridge (Jewel, Canopy Park) 

The Glass Bridge at Canopy Park is one of the coolest attractions, that’s a little bit less intense (if bouncing on a net suspended 23 meters above the ground isn’t your thing!). 

The Glass Bridge is included in your Canopy Park package ticket and goes right next to the Rain Vortex. 

In addition to the spectacular panoramic views of the waterfall, the Glass Bridge is also one of the best photo spots in Singapore Airport. 

7. Jump Around on the Bouncing Net (Jewel, Canopy Park) 

The Bouncing Net is the main attraction at Canopy Park. 

The nets at Canopy Park, along with the “Walking Net”, are suspended over the highest point at Singapore Airport, so pose a bit of a challenge for those with fears of heights! 

The Bouncing Net is a big hit with kids and adults alike and features multiple net passageways and slides made out of the nets that go between stories at Singapore Airport. 

The Bouncing Net is, as its name describes,  very bouncy  – You need to don special shoes to be allowed into the net area, and there are lockers available for your valuables before you get into the Bouncing Net. 

💡  Tip!  Take advantage of the complimentary lockers provided at Canopy Park if you want to go on the Bouncing Net! The nets have lots of small holes, easy for valuables to slip out of your pockets, and to the stories below. 

8. Challenge Yourself on the Walking Net (Jewel, Canopy Park)

Don’t let the name fool you! The Walking Net is actually a bit more of a challenge than the Bouncing Net. 

This is because you can see more of your surroundings from the Walking Net, as it’s in a wide-open space – I was  very  aware I was walking on a net suspended over the roof of Singapore Airport!

That being said, if you don’t have a fear of heights both of the net attractions at Canopy Park are  loads of fun  and I highly recommend them for anyone visiting Singapore’s Changi Airport! 

9. Take Your Kiddos to Discovery Slides at Canopy Park (Jewel Canopy Park)

The slide attraction at Canopy Park is another fun one included in your bundle ticket, but the slides are best for smaller children (10 and under).

10. Get Lost in Singapore’s Largest Hedge Maze (Jewel, Canopy Park) 

The Hedge Maze is another main attraction at Canopy Park. Fun Fact: the Hedge Maze at Singapore Airport is actually the largest in Singapore, standing 5 ft 11 inches in height! 

The Hedge Maze, along with the Mirror Maze, are both included in Canopy Park bundle tickets. 

11. Try Your Luck With The Mirror Maze (Jewel, Canopy Park) 

The Mirror Maze is one of two different mazes located inside Canopy Park, that’s included as one of your Canopy Park bundle tickets. 

At the Mirror Maze, you’re given a pool noodle to hold in front of you, so you don’t walk head-first into a mirror (it’s easier than you would think to do!).

It’s fun for kids and adults alike, but I felt pretty silly when I couldn’t get out and needed help from a very intelligent 9-year-old to find my way out of the maze 😂.

12. Have an Immersive Experience at Changi Experience Studio (Jewel)

Changi Experience Studio is a new immersive attraction at Singapore Airport’s Jewel Mall that incorporates games, VR, and other interactive elements to teach guests about the inner workings of Changi Airport. 

13. Go See a Movie in Shaw Theater (Jewel) 

Shaw Theater is a world-quality movie theater at the Jewel Mall where you can enjoy all of the latest releases. 

14. Have Lunch With A View of the Rain Vortex (Jewel) 

On the top floor of Singapore Airport next to Canopy Park there are several restaurants with dining pavilions that feature perfect views of the Rain Vortex! 

15. Visit Starbucks Singapore’s Flagship Store (Jewel)

Starbucks Singapore Flagship store is conveniently located right next to the entrance of the Jewel Mall. 

It’s a lot nicer than your run-of-the-mill Starbucks, and sports options like specialty beans and an on-tap nitro cold brew, nitro tea, and nitro latte. 

Another plus is that Starbucks does REAL cups, that’s right – real ceramic mugs, not just the paper takeaways! 

I had a specialty reserve cappuccino, and it was one of the best coffees I’ve had in months. (And I live in Bali, which is known for its coffee!)

16. Enjoy Some Truly International Cuisine (Jewel) 

They have every different type of cuisine you could imagine available in the Jewel Mall – I saw restaurants specializing in Chinese, Japanese, American, Korean, French, Italian, etc. 

17. Go Shopping! (Jewel) 

The Jewel Mall is home to dozens and dozens of stores, including staples like Muji, Uniqlo, Zara, and Adidas, and Nike. For electronics fans, there’s also a DJI and an Apple store in the Jewel Mall. 

If you spend over $100 Singaporean Dollars shopping at the Jewel Mall you qualify for a refund on Singapore’s 8% Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Check out the GST rebate kiosks when you depart Singapore at the airport to get your tax refund on your shopping!

18. Buy Tax-Free Apple Products (Jewel) 

Did you know that Singapore International Airport is actually the cheapest place in the world to buy Apple products?

Although there is an 8% GST tax levied in Singapore, tourists can get a 6% rebate on that when they leave the country

While on my layover in Changi Airport, I was able to buy a new AirPods Pro and a new iPhone for less than it would cost back in New York City.

If you don’t have time to leave Changi Airport and go to the Jewel Mall, there’s also an Apple reseller within terminal three that has 0% sales tax.

Coming from Bali, where there’s a 40% import tax levied on all electronics, it was great to get some shopping done in Singapore!

19. Take a Ride on The Sky Train (Terminals 2&3)

You can take the sky train between Terminals 2 and 3, which runs every 10 minutes to get a different view of the Jewel Waterfall.

The sky train is a unique feature at Singapore International Airport because it drives right behind the waterfall through the Jewel Mall.

💡 Tip!  There’s a rumor online that you don’t have to go through customs/immigration to take the Sky Train – I didn’t find that to be true, the Sky Train is open to the Jewel, so you still need to go through Customs and Immigration to get to it!

20. Visit the Butterfly Garden (Terminal 3) 

Did you know that there’s a 24-hour free butterfly garden in Terminal 3? There’s a completely free butterfly garden where you can see and interact with over 1,000 tropical butterflies inside Singapore’s international airport.

21. Watch a FREE Movie at the Terminal Cinema (Terminal 3) 

There’s a 100% free 24-hour movie theater for the enjoyment of passengers in Changi Airport Terminal 3. 

No need to buy a ticket or wait for a showing – you just walk in! 

22. Have a Workout at Climb@T3 (Terminal 3)

That’s right! Terminal 3 at Singapore Airport is now home to a rock climbing gym, so anyone can get in a workout while waiting to board their flight! 

23. Get a Specialty Coffee from a Fully Robotic Barista (Terminal 3)

I’ve had a robotically made coffee in Thailand, but the Robotic Barista at Singapore Airport lets you watch the robot making your coffee – So it’s more of an “experience” than just using a vending machine! 

24. Go Down the Tallest Slide in Any Airport in the World (Terminal 3)

There are multiple slides and playgrounds at Singapore’s Changi Airport, but the  tallest slide in any airport in the entire world  is located in Terminal 3!  

In addition to being the tallest slide in any airport in the world, the slide in Terminal 3 also holds the title of Singapore’s tallest slide. 

The slide is open every day from noon to 10:30 PM! 

25. Have a Sip at the world’s Largest Bacha Coffee (All Terminals) 

I had my first Bacha Coffee at Singapore International Airport and I was blown away – For the same price as a Starbucks Coffee, you can have a luxurious, interesting, and elevated coffee experience. 

Originating in Marrakech, Morocco, the luxury chain Bacha Coffee has taken Singapore and Dubai by storm in the past few years. 

You won’t find any cappuccinos or lattes at Bacha Coffee, instead, this luxury chain is all about the beans. 

You choose from over 200 types of coffee beans, each with their own description of where they were grown and their flavor profiles, and then there’s only one preparation technique: black coffee with a side of fresh whipped cream and a rock-sugar stirring stick. 

Although there are many Bacha Coffee outposts at Singapore International Airport, the largest in the world is located in Terminal 3!

There are multiple spas in Singapore International Airport, ranging from mid-range to ultra-luxury. 

No matter what terminal you’re flying into, you will have the opportunity to relax on your layover and have a spa day! 

27. Stay in an Airport Hotel (Terminal 1, 2, & 3) 

All of the terminals at Singapore International Airport have airport hotel options. 

The most notable airport hotel at Changi Airport is the Crowne Plaza, which is a 4-star hotel with ultra-luxurious amenities and an international reputation for excellence.

28. Buy a Daypass To a Swimming Pool (Terminal 1) 

There’s a swimming pool on the roof of Terminal 1 where you can soak and enjoy some rays while watching airplanes take off below! 

In addition to the pool, the rooftop swimming complex also has a swim-up pool bar and a jacuzzi. 

The swimming pool sells day passes for only $23 (Singapore Dollars) per adult, and is open every day from Noon – 10 PM. 

29. On a Layover? Relax in an Airport Lounge (All Terminals)

There are many airport lounges at Singapore Airport, located in all terminals. 

If you’re flying in/out of Terminal 4, you can visit the Blossom pay-per-use airport lounge, which is a new concept that includes a co-working space and beds for Digital Nomads on the go! 

30. Explore the Terminal 4 Playgrounds 

By the time I got to the Chandelier Net Playground at Singapore International Airport, I was at a loss for words –  I mean, what doesn’t this airport have?! 

Unfortunately, the Chandelier Net Playground and Slide were closed when I visited, but if you’re lucky the playground will be open when you go!

31. Enjoy the Free Cultural Show (Terminal 4) 

In Terminal 4’s Heritage Zone, you can see a Singaporean cultural show for free displayed on an LED screen embedded into a life-sized model of Peranakan Shophouses. 

Peranakan Shophouses are brightly colored traditional Singaporean architecture that became popular housing styles for its merchant class. 

On the larger-than-life LED screen, you can watch two shows – titled Peranakan Love Story and Nanyang Blossom – The two shows take place in the 1930s and 1830s, respectively, and depict a love story from those periods.

These shows are 100% free for the entertainment of anyone waiting in Terminal 4! 

32. Visit the TWG Tea Boutique (All Terminals) 

Similar to Bacha Coffee, TWG Tea has boutique outlets in all the terminals at Singapore International Airport and offers an elevated tea experience as well as a great opportunity to buy souvenirs while you’re traveling.

33. Take a Walk Down Jurassic Mile 

At a certain point you have to wonder, what doesn’t this airport have? Haha – Jurassic Mile is technically located right outside the Jewel Mall, and it’s exactly what it sounds like! 

Dozens of life-size Dino statues line a jogger track – It’s a very random and fun way to get some exercise on a long layover.

While there are a ton of amazing things to do inside Singapore Airport that I’ve covered in this article, the best activities the country has to offer are right at your fingertips from Changi Airport, and if you have a longer layover it’s well worth a visit to the city!

Katie’s Top Tips For Visiting Singapore Airport (Changi)

✅ don’t miss out on the tax-free shopping .

If you’re inside the terminal, anything you buy will truly be “tax-free” – If you’re in the Jewel Mall, which is technically outside of Singapore Airport, you will have to pay an 8% tax, which can then be rebated when you leave the country at one of the GST rebate kiosks. 

✅ Make Sure You Have Enough Time To Go Through Customs On Your Layover 

Immigration and Customs at Singapore International Airport only took 30 minutes when I went, and it was very convenient. 

They didn’t ask me for an en-route ticket, but I needed to list when I was departing the country on the immigration form.

I was coming from Terminal 4, which is a distance from the Jewel Mall, so I also had to utilize their free shuttle bus.

All in all, this took around an hour from when I landed at Terminal 4 to get to the Jewel Mall across from Terminal 3.

If you’re arriving at Terminal 3, it will be faster for you to get to the Jewel because it’s right across the street. 

✅ Know That Most Attractions are Located At Terminal 3 (Airport Side) and in the Changi Jewel Mall (Singapore Side) 

Well, Terminal Four also has some unique attractions, know that most of the cool things at Singapore International Airport are located in either Terminal 3 before customs and immigration or at the Jewel Mall after customs and immigration.

✅ Know That Things Are Priced in Singapore Dollars 

I was a bit confused the first time I entered the jewel because the symbol for Singapore dollars is the same as the US dollar symbol.

One Singapore dollar is worth 75% of the US dollar so it’s an easy conversion rate

That being said everywhere in the Jewel and at Singapore International Airport accepts credit cards. During my time in Singapore, I didn’t have to take out cash once.

✅ BRING A JACKET!!!! It’s Cold in the AC

When I first landed in Singapore, I thought that it was a cold country. 

That is, until I check the weather app it’s not that Singapore is cold, it’s that they turn on the AC so high everywhere indoors that you feel like it is!

Even though it was 88°F when I visited Singapore, everyone was in full pants and a jacket because they kept the AC on high.

Just to recap, Singapore Airport is considered by many to have the title of the “Best Airport in the World”, and it’s easy to see why. 

The most impressive structure in Singapore Airport is the Jewel Rain Vortex, which is the largest indoor waterfall in the world – I’ve been full-time traveling for over two years through North, Central, and South America, as well as Europe, Africa, and now Asia, and the Jewel Vortex is easily the most impressive indoor structure I have ever seen. 

After taking in the Rain Vortex and Shiseido Cloud Forest, which are free and open to the public, the next best thing to do is visit Canopy Park. 

Canopy Park is a paid attraction located inside the Jewel Mall, that has tons of amazing interactive and adventurous activities for adults and kids alike – When I went, the tickets for internationals were $40, and it was more than worth it! 

It’s important to know that if you’re visiting Singapore Airport on a layover, the iconic Jewel Mall where the Rain Vortex and Canopy Park are located outside of the airport terminals, and past customs and immigration.

So, make sure that you have time to go through customs and immigration if you’re visiting Singapore Airport! 

When I went, it took around 45 minutes to get through customs and immigration, and only 20 minutes on the way back. 

If you’re coming from Terminal 4, it will take longer for you to reach the Jewel Mall, since you will need to take a free shuttle bus to get to and from the terminal. 

If you don’t have time to get past immigration on your layover, don’t worry! There are still a ton of incredible activities you can do inside all 4 of Singapore Airport’s terminals that I’ve detailed in this post.

Here are the best things to do, eat, and shop for at this stunning airport mall.

It's an understatement to say that Jewel Changi Airport is jaw-dropping. This stunning glass and steel dome development (by Safdie Architects, the same folks behind the iconic Marina Bay Sands), has got it all – gardens, attractions, activity, areas, retail, dining, and more. And of course, that cascading waterfall in the middle of the Shiseido Forest Valley.

A coveted stopover destination for travellers, Jewel Changi Airport is also a popular mall destination for Singaporeans. While the crazy queues seen at Jewel's initial mall opening have died down, it remains a magnet for travellers and locals in search of things to do, eat, and shop. To help you sort through Jewel Changi Airport's many offerings, here's a guide to the best things to check out.

An email you’ll actually love

Hike an indoor forest

Escape the busy airport and into a lush green sanctuary that is the Shiseido Forest Valley. Accessible from every level, the tranquil retreat is a reminder of Singapore and a garden city even before you step out of the airport. The forest valley is also the best place to stare in awe of the HSBC Rain Vortex, the largest indoor waterfall in the world – and the crown jewel of well, Jewel Changi Airport. 

Catch a film

Live large and catch a movie at the Shaw Theatres in IMAX. Whether you're in Singapore on transit or an Eastie spending a weekend at Singapore's newest mall concept, watching a film is the best way to kill some time. Choose from the latest releases and end the day on a high, dining at one of the eateries in the mall. 

Bounce on nets

Immerse yourself in the recreational wonderland that is the Canopy Park located on the top floor of Jewel. Leave your fear of heights at home and get your heart racing bouncing on nets and going down giant slides, all while taking in the views. 

Check out what's blooming

A world away from all the shops, the Petal Garden at the top of the Jewel Changi Airport is where you can enjoy creative displays of seasonal flowers from around the world. The garden in bloom will also feature some interesting installations making it one of the more Instagrammable spots in Jewel Changi Airport. 

Get lost in a maze

Weave your way around the largest hedge maze in Singapore. Don't get too cocky, we heard that you should allow yourself at least 30 minutes in the maze. At the core of it is the watchtower where you will be rewarded with some of the best views. 

The Backyard Bakers

• Restaurants

Bundt By The Backyard Bakers is famed for its blackout brownies – and rightfully so, as you'd be hard-pressed to find brownies as rich and chocolatey than the ones here. Now, you can get these delightful bakes in the East, at its second outlet in Jewel Changi Airport. Besides the brownies, you can also buy its fragrant madeleines, chunky banana bread, brookies (a cross between a cookie and a brownie) and beverages. 

Birds of Paradise

• Ice-cream parlours

When you're done with shopping at In Good Company, grab a scoop from ice-creamery Birds of Paradise. There are perpetual long queues for its artisanal gelato created from herbs, fruits, spices and botanical ingredients – think flavours like Masala Spice and White Chrysanthemum – wrapped in a fragrant and freshly-made thyme-infused waffle cone. 

Whether you’re a tourist on the hunt for local cuisine or a Singaporean craving Peranakan comfort food when you touch down, Violet Oon Singapore is sure to hit the spot. Gather around the communal tables at the brand's biggest outlet to date and dig into  Violet's signatures like the beef rendang ($28), dry laksa ($29) and ngoh hiang ($20). Remember to get some roti prata ($2) to mop up any leftover gravy, and round off the meal with pulut hitam with coconut ice cream ($14) for dessert. 

Elfuego by Collin's

• Pan-European

For an elevated Halal European dining experience, look no further than Elfuego by Collin's. Located at Jewel Changi Airport, this restaurant offers a wide spread of hot and cold appetisers, seafood mains, and charcoal-grilled meats. Start off with seared Hokkaido scallops ($20) or tuna tataki ($12) before moving on to mains that include baked Tasmanian ocean trout ($29) and Wagyu flank steak ($32). If you've got a big group of people with big appetites, then go for the hefty charcoal-grilled Australian Black Angus Tomahawk steak ($139). Want a good meal at a steal? We recommend coming for the two-course or three-course lunch set, which only costs $19.90 and $25.90 respectively. 

• Fast food outlets

After a long sixteen years since its departure from Singapore, A&W returns to make our Coney dog and root beer float dreams come true. Located at basement two of Jewel Changi Airport, the 80-seater joint is open till late, serving both famished international travellers and locals looking for a hot of nostalgia. All its classics are on the menu, including the famous root beer float ($3.50), chicken or beef coney dog ($5.20) and curly fries ($3.60). It also includes some new-to-Singapore creations that have become hits around the region. There's the Golden Aroma Chicken ($3.20) from A&W Indonesia and Cream Cheese Chicken or Beef Burger ($4.90), which are popular in its Okinawa outlets.

Shake Shack

Shake Shack at Jewel Changi Airport is Singapore – and Southeast Asia's – very first outlet. Now that the insane queues have disappeared, you can comfortably head down to find out why this New York-born burger brand has grown to cult status despite its humble origins as a hot dog cart. Other than its juicy all-natural Angus beef burgers, do also try Singapore exclusives like the Pandan Shake ($7.80) or Jewela Melaka ($7.50/$9.50), a vanilla custard blended with coconut salted caramel, shortbread, gula melaka and Lemuel chocolate chunks.

• Pan-South American

Helmed by chef Daniel Chavez, the culinary mastermind behind Ola Cocina del Mar and Tono Cevicheria, Tonito is an all-Latin American dining experience where you can savour dishes from Mexico, Brazil, Cuba, Colombia, Argentina and beyond. As Mexican folk music plays in the background, tuck into hearty plates of tacos, quesadillas and anticuchos, Peruvian-style grilled skewers while soaking in the atmosphere and the majestic view of Jewel Changi's indoor waterfall. Hot tip: dine between 7.30pm to 8.30pm to catch the five-minute light and sound show.

Taste the flavours of Southwestern China at the largest Yunnan food and beverage chain in the world. Yun Nans has over 150 outlets in China and is making Singapore, and Jewel Changi Airport, its first international outpost. The restaurant specialises in highland cuisine, as there are seven tropical belts in Yunnan, offering the region a diversity of ingredients you've probably never tried before. Yun Nans brings most of its ingredients in fresh from the province to make its signature dishes like the Steamed Pot Chicken Soup ($23.90), which uses steam and condensation to create a heady chicken broth best eaten with a plate of cold rice noodles, chicken, vegetables and egg tossed in a vinegary sauce. If you're up for a spicy challenge, get the beef stew in copper pot ($24.90), an intense beef broth filled with beef shin, tendon and offal peppered with a generous amount of chilli.    

Take a short break amidst all the shopping at Lemuel Chocolate’s Beanfolks– Singapore’s first-ever hot chocolate bar. With a variety of customisation options available, customers can tailor their drink to their exact preferences. Beanfolks offers seven different chocolates from different countries, and over 20 infusions ranging from vanilla to roasted rice, in an attempt to encourage customers to experiment and create their ideal chocolate flavour profile. Although most chocolate drinks tend to be rich and creamy, Beanfolks keeps it light and flavourful, avoiding an over-cloying drink even when choosing sweeter options such as white chocolate and sweet foam.

Not only is the Starbucks at Jewel Changi Airport the brand's first flagship store in Singapore, it's also the largest. Occupying two storeys, the outlet celebrates the journey the brand has taken in Singapore thus far, with art that highlights both the brand and local elements. If you love studying at Starbucks and the airport, this massive space offers free Wi-Fi, plenty of seats and power plugs alongside a wide selection of flagship-exclusive drinks and treats. Sample locally inspired offers like Hainanese chicken rice quinoa salad, satay chicken ciabatta and Milo tiramisu. Or if you want to stick to coffee, the store offers cups made through manual brewing methods like the Chemex or siphon brew. For something more refreshing on a hot day, check out what's on offer at its four-tap nitro bar. Favourites include the nitro flat white, nitro caramel macchiato and nitro green tea, which we dare say are smoother and richer than their hand-brewed counterparts.

Watch the world (and Changi Airport's Skytrains) go by at Lady M's fifth local outlet. The spacious café is located along the mega-mall's wide walkway, making it an airy and open space ideal for people watching as you dig your fork into its signature mille crêpes. Also try its savoury items, including bites like crab salad on toast, cauliflower soup and chicken and pesto sandwiches.

Bring a slice of Lady M home with you, no matter your destination. The Jewel Changi boutique sells frozen mille crépe cakes as well as exclusive bon bons. There are over 23 different types available, including cocktail-inspired gummies like the Gin Tonic Casino as well as flavoured nuts and chocolates like the Cognac Orange Liqueur Chocolate. The bon bons come packed in sets of three, five and eight, and each box depicts the iconic architecture of different cities: La Mansarde (three-pack),  Paris’ Haussman-style architecture; The Brownstone (five-pack), New York City's townhouses and Qing Zhuan Dai Wa (eight-pack), Beijing's traditional hutong homes.

Don Don Donki

• Grocery stores

Don Don Donki is ubiquitous across the island, but its outlet at Jewel Changi Airport stands out. This store not only has aviation-inspired decor, but is also home to the chain's first Halal food corner in Singapore. Besides a massive variety of Japanese-imported items, the Jewel Changi Airport outlet also has a new food hall, complete with a made-to-order sushi bar, freshly-fried takoyaki, and soon, even a mochi-making machine. Thirsty? You can slake it at the sake bar which houses more than 40 types of sake. 

In Good Company

With pastel-coloured walls and high ceilings, what draws you in the store is how much it looks like a museum. In Good Company offers visitors a retail experience beyond just clothes. The curated collection includes their womenswear, menswear and children's wear which is known for its timeless silhouettes and quality fabrics; and also books, accessories, scented candles and chocolates. 

Pokemon Center Singapore

• Toys and games

The first centre to open outside Japan, the Pokémon Center Singapore is an exact replica of the original. The centre is a specialist store for all things Pokémon and where to collect 'em plush toys, video games, trading cards, Pokémon apparel and other official merchandise. The store in Jewel Changi Airport also stocks Singapore-exclusive official merchandise which you can't get in the Japan store.

Gift by Changi Airport

Gone are the days of tacky souvenirs and cheesy airport gift stores. At Gift by Changi Airport, it's all about thoughtful gifts. The wide range of specially curated travel lifestyle products celebrates the best of Singapore and also Singapore's creatives. Find exclusive Changi Airport candles by local makers Hush Candles, Peranakan-inspired jewellery by Eden+Elie, bags and purses from Gnome and Bow and more. From exclusively designed items to travel products which evoke a sense of wanderlust, shoppers will be left spoilt for choice to pick a gift for their family, friends or even themselves.

Just another shoe store in town? Not quite. For the first time in Southeast Asia, Nike will feature its full product showcase across all sports and lifestyle categories, right here at the Jewel at Changi Airport store – which is why the store is also the largest one in Singapore. Both like a Nike museum and store, fans of the brand can browse through the huge collection of footwear, apparel and accessories for your running, cross-training, football, basketball and other sporting lifestyle needs.

Offering sleepwear, lingerie, gym wear, beachwear, footwear and accessories, Spanish retailer Oysho celebrates feminine sophistication and also comfort, which you can see in its collection and the fabrics used in the apparel. The concept store in Jewel Changi Airport is also the Singapore flagship outlet and is designed to create a warm and open atmosphere so you can shop in clarity and ease.   

Foot Locker

Going to a shoe store doesn't always have to be about shopping for your next pair of sneaks. At Foot Locker in Jewel Changi Airport, you can shop in the largest outlet in Singapore and also enjoy a few extra perks in the store. Ladies can take a breather from retail therapy and get a manicure in-store before snapping a couple of selfies at the selfie mirror. On the first floor, you can squeeze in a gaming sesh at the Xbox arena. When it comes to celebrating sneaker culture, no one does it better than Foot Locker – it's not just about the shoes, it's a lifestyle. 

FairPrice Finest

• Specialist food and drink

Located at basement two of Jewel Changi Airport is Singapore's leading grocer, NTUC FairPrice Finest. The store caters to both locals and tourists and is well-stocked with everything from everyday essentials and foodstuff to premium products and international gourmet items. The outlet is designed in collaboration with Superunion, a creative brand agency that made the space more than just a grocery shop. It's filled with more experiential and local elements like Peranakan-inspired illustrations and tiles as well as illustrations by Singaporean illustrator, Charmaine Tan.

The Smell Lab

Crowds can be disorienting sometimes and if you're going to be gallivanting around Jewel Changi Airport, a quick stop at The Smell Lab can be quite therapeutic. Take some time to indulge in an evocative sensory experience, while also picking up some items to go. Sample the scents and products in the range or try out the DIY lab space where you can make your own bespoke scented product.

The collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge , a major transportation link in the Baltimore area, sparked a massive search and rescue effort early Tuesday morning.

The bridge has been a critical transportation passageway along the East Coast for decades. Video captured the collapse , after Singapore-flagged container ship, the Dali, collided with one of the bridge's pillars.

The ship had caught fire, and several vehicles fell into the river below.

Where is the Francis Scott Key Bridge located?

The bridge crosses over the Patapsco River on I-695 and is the final link on the Baltimore Beltway, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority .

It is the outermost of the three tollways that cross Baltimore's Harbor.

How long is the Francis Scott Key Bridge?

The 4-lane bridge structure alone is 1.6 miles long. The facility also includes the Curtis Creek Drawbridge. Including approach roadways, the entire stretch is around 10.9 miles long, MDTA said.

Why did a ship hit the Francis Scott Key Bridge?

The ship, a container vessel chartered by Maersk, apparently lost power a few minutes before striking the bridge, a senior U.S. official told USA TODAY .

No Maersk crew or personnel were onboard the vessel when it struck the bridge, according to a statement from the company. It was operated by a charter company, Synergy Group, and owned by Grace Ocean Pte., based in Singapore, and ultimately bound for Sri Lanka.

Accidents like this, called Marine casualties, are not uncommon, the official told USA TODAY, with an allision (an immobile object being struck by a ship) occurring about every 10 years or so. Investigators will likely look into the cause of the power outage and whether there was a mechanical failure on the ship.

Key is believed to have witnessed the bombardment of Fort McHenry on the night of Sept. 12, 1814, within 100 yards of the modern-day bridge. That battle is what inspired him to the national anthem.

The bridge is critical to East Coast shipping. The port’s private and public terminals handled 847,158 autos and light trucks in 2023, the most of any U.S. port. The port also handles farm and construction machinery, sugar, gypsum and coal, according to a Maryland government website.

How the Key Bridge Collapsed in Baltimore: Maps and Photos

On Tuesday, a major bridge in Baltimore collapsed into the water seconds after it was struck by a cargo ship, sending vehicles on the bridge into the river below. The ship lost power and issued a mayday call shortly before it hit the bridge.

The ship, a 948-foot-long cargo vessel called Dali, was about a half hour into its journey toward Colombo, Sri Lanka, when it hit a main pillar of the bridge. All crew members are safe, according to the ship’s owners.

A mayday call from the ship gave officials enough time to stop traffic at both ends of the bridge. The waters where the bridge collapsed are about 50 feet deep. By Tuesday morning, six construction workers who had been fixing potholes on the bridge remained missing as divers and other emergency workers on boats and helicopters continued to search for them. Two others had been rescued, and one was in the hospital.

The Francis Scott Key Bridge was opened in 1977 and carried more than 12.4 million vehicles last year. The bridge was one of the three major ways to cross the Patapsco River and formed part of Baltimore’s beltway.

The Port of Baltimore is a major trade hub that handled a record amount of foreign cargo last year. It is an especially important destination — the nation’s largest by volume last year — for deliveries of cars and light trucks.

Overall, Baltimore was the 17th biggest port in the United States in 2021, ranked by total tons, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. The bridge collapse brought marine traffic there to a standstill, with seven cargo or tanker ships stranded in the harbor as of Tuesday afternoon.

Gov. Wes Moore declared a state of emergency for Maryland and said that his office was in close communication with Pete Buttigieg, the U.S. transportation secretary. The White House issued a statement saying that President Biden had been briefed on the collapse.
