Ralph Tatham

Maintenance, born in harare, ralph grew up around his father who worked as a national parks and wildlife warden for over 35 years. here he picked up his extensive experience in maintenance, guiding, flying and game management. his passion expanded as he continued to hone his abilities, later joining pure africa as head of maintenance. ralph is instrumental in the smooth running of the pure africa boats, engines, generators and back of house operations. guests may rarely encounter ralph on their visits, but his contribution is invaluable., weddings & events consultant, impact matters, as a sustainable tourism operator we make impact tangible and always strive to be at the forefront of responsible travel, keeping our efforts and contribution transparent, while actively minimising our environmental footprint..

Pure Africa operates a full wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of up to 5000l of water an hour, making us the only company to effectively empty the boats of waste water to ensure that no waste goes into the river, something that is essential to its preservation. We operate grease traps and recycle.

We have fitted extensive solar panels on our flagship Zambezi Explorer that power all onboard facilities.

As strong believers in supporting local, we source the majority of our ingredients from within the Zambezi Valley and work actively towards reducing our food waste.

We believe in supporting community initiatives – from food growers and artisans to uplifting and training members of our staff.

1. greenline africa, greenline africa is a local community based organisation working with youth, women and children in and around victoria falls and livingstone. their vision is to create a better life for marginalised communities in africa. greenline africa projects include building schools and playgrounds, developing vegetable gardens, water and sanitation, recycling and gogo (grandmother) and orphan support. greenline africa also focusses on biodiversity and human-wildlife conflict, doing ongoing work in both spheres., our contribution, pure africa is deeply committed to playing an active role in supporting greenline africa, one that goes beyond our monthly monetary contributions. we purchase vegetables and fruits grown by local farmers who are part of the greenline africa program that teaches, provides start-up finance and creates a market for their produce. in addition, we manufactured all the new furniture items on the luxury deck of the zambezi explorer in conjunction with a women workshop project lead by greenline africa. in this recent collaboration pure africa did the designs while greenline africa handled the production., 2. victoria falls anti-poaching unit, vfapu, the victoria falls anti-poaching unit is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the conservation of local wildlife and natural resources, while addressing the heavy burden of human and animal conflict. vfapu works to ease this risk by protecting the wildlife and habitat from poacher pressure (subsistence and commercial), as well rescuing and rehabilitating animals injured by human interference. they train and find employment for ex-poachers so that they may have an alternate sustainable income. their ongoing community awareness programs reach children at an early age in a bid to create long term solutions., for the past 5 years, pure africa has been supporting the incredible work done by vfapu by doing what we do best – or at least one of our fortes – organising and hosting a successful special event annual fundraiser., want to know more, we would love to hear from you. get in touch with us., join our newsletter, latest updates in your inbox.

Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”.
