Your Iceland Holiday Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up your rental car at Keflavík International Airport. It’s less than an hour’s drive to Reykjavik from here, but you’ll want to allow an extra few hours for a soak at the iconic Blue Lagoon on the way.

Day 2: From Reykjavik, head out on a day trip around the Golden Circle. This famous route takes you past some of Iceland’s most mesmerizing sights — Thingvellir National Park, Geysir Hot Spring Area and Gullfoss Falls.

GLACIER ENCOUNTERS

It’s time to explore the magic of Icelandic glaciers. Explore the astonishing Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon in Southeast Iceland by taking an exciting amphibian boat tour, sail among the huge icebergs while enjoying the picturesque scenery. Lucky enough, wildlife such as seals and some arctic bird species can be seen in the lagoon or on top of a floating iceberg. Go far off-the-beaten-track on an ice cave beneath the volcano expedition and enter Katla´s glacier, Kötlujökull, through a truly magical ‘gateway’ as blue and black ice-walls stand like sentinels on either side of you. Inside this ice-dome you will feel you are in a magical Hollywood scene.

SMALL CITY WITH EXCITEMENT

Stroll around the quaint old city and you will find Austurvöllur Square right in the middle of the downtown area. Locals can be seen chilling at the square on a sunny day, and there are all sorts of stores and restaurants nearby in the city centre. Here you will find the Parliament building, and also the most recognisable landmark, Hallgrímskirkja church, which designed by the genius of visionary state architect, Guðjón Samúelsson with the inspiration of stunning Iceland’s nature. Harpa Concert hall is another landmark that shouldn’t be missed. Each of Harpa’s glass tiles has a unique size and shape, and the whole building lights up in an array of kaleidoscopic colours at night, creating an ever-changing beacon on the shoreline, and leads to a highlight of Reykjavík's skyline.

BLUE LAGOON

Geothermal spa.

In a magnificent black-lava field, the cyan Blue Lagoon spa is filled with superheated water (70% sea water, 30% fresh water, at a perfect 38°C), which is rich in blue-green algae, mineral salts and fine silica mud. Silica mud can help to exfoliate and nourishes the skin, therefore don’t forget to enjoy a relaxing dip into the beneficial white silica mud spa with roiling clouds of steam during your stay in Iceland!

Mývatn is a beautiful lake with many small islands in the north of Iceland, the fourth largest lake in the country. Sits in active geothermal area, the geography is unique with terrain of spluttering mudpots, weird lava formations, steaming fumaroles and volcanic craters. Besides, Myvatn is also one of the best bird watching site in Iceland, and home for different species of wildlife such as voles, Arctic fox and etc. Due to its serenity, birdlife and volcanism, the lake, including its surrounding area, is one of the most amazing natural attractions in the country.

Making up one of the attractions along the world-renowned Golden Circle sightseeing route, Great Geysir arguably the country’s most famous hot spring, shooting vast jets of boiling water to an impressive height of between 65 feet and 130 feet. Various geological factors have to combine for a geyser to exist, making them very rare in nature. This natural phenomenon provides visitor spectacular photo opportunities. Now, get ready to witness one of Mother Nature’s show stoppers!

With a population of only 19,000, Iceland's capital of the north, Akureyri, is the island’s second-largest city. It is large enough to offer a rich selection of entertainment, art and culture, yet small enough to be very personal and close to nature. Akureyri is a great base camp for many of Iceland’s most beautiful natural wonders, such as waterfalls, volcanic areas and canyons, as well as numerous exciting activities, such as hiking, caving, and horseback riding. Brightly painted wooden houses, cosy bars and steep streets leading down from the hills into the friendly city centre, this is a calm yet lovely city, where even the traffic lights are cute, with stop lights in the shape of red hearts.

Located in the North Atlantic Ocean, Iceland is the land of Ice and Fire. Witness Earth’s natural phenomenon and geological beauty on full display during your tour around Iceland, where geysers pump out hot steam, and volcanoes creating surreal lava fields. Creeping glaciers and towering waterfalls are only some of what makes Iceland such a hallmark. With a population of only 330,000, Iceland is starting to open its doors to the world and uncovering what was hidden and displaying it for the world to see. 

Iceland is more than the name suggests with 130 volcanoes located here. Although relatively small for a volcano eruption, the latest eruption of Eyjafjallajökull in 2010 caused significant disruption to air travel for 6 days! It is the power of nature that pulls tourist from around the globe to come and visit Iceland.  A dip in a pool becomes a soak in an azure geothermal lagoon which also believes to have healing powers in Grindavík on the Reykjanes Peninsula; a casual stroll or ice trekking across a glittering glacier at Sólheimajökull; and a quiet night of camping may witness aurora borealis’  displaying curtains of light changing hues while waiting for the sun to rise. These are only some of the must-do activities when you tour around Iceland. 

Unlike other countries, the best time to visit Iceland is entirely up to you and what you would want to achieve. If, like many others, you would want to tour Iceland to watch aurora borealis, the best time to see them is from late September through late March with pure darkness, clear conditions, and a surge in solar activity. For hot spring chasers, we would suggest during the month of September or, better yet, the first half of October when they’re all still accessible by mountain road, but the crowds of tourists have significantly dialled down. Being one of the safest country in the world, it is extremely safe to travel around Iceland as it has a low crime rate. Be aware of natural hazards and weather changes that could change your tour plans.
