Sailing and dining onboard provide an unforgettable 2.5 hrs unique evening dining and sailing experience on Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour. Departing from the Viaduct Harbour at 6.00 pm, we hoist the sails. 

You can participate with the crew as we set the sails, take the helm or sit back with a glass of wine whilst taking in the city skyline.  Savour canapés and a drink as you set off towards Westhaven Marina. 

Choose between a formal dinner in the downstairs cabin or taking in the iconic sights of the Auckland Harbour while you eat on deck. A decadent dessert will then be yours to savour 

We anchor in a sheltered part of the harbour for dinner, which is served by the crew from your pre-selected menu of New Zealand fare, including some of the traditional kiwi favourites prepared by the “Degree Restaurant”, complimented with a selection of locally produced wine or beer (cash bar onboard)

After dinner, we set sail again to capture Auckland at the best time of day. Please sit back and relax with a glass of wine as you pass the harbour bridge. As the sun sets, the cityscape is lit with all its lights.

I thought it might be a real tame and boring ride around the harbor but they actually got the boat up to a fairly exciting speed with it leaned right over. We were lucky to have a perfect day with a nice breeze and clear skies. I wouldn't bother if its pouring rain or dead calm day. Anyone who wanted were able to participate as crew by manning the hand cranks to hoist and lower the sails as well as driving for a bit. Tip... there is no toilet on the boat so make sure to go before boarding. The crew were fun and gave lots of interesteing info about the boat, sailing, racing etc. Well worth it! We had Skipper Peter & Charlie on board Defiance and I didn't want it to end! When I asked if I could have a photo taken next to the steering wheel they said to get in behind the wheel and let me steer for a while. The ocean is my 'happy place' where all stress melts away and should I return to Auckland anytime soon, I would do this experience again as it's priced reasonably. We sailed with Captain Peter and his mate Joe and had a wonderful time. My husband talked me into doing this excursion since Auckland is called the City of Sails but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. They served us sodas or juice or their New Zealand soda LNP, which is like carbonated lemonade. I recommend the LNP to experience a local soda as it was refreshing and delicious. What we actually thought we had booked and what was advertised, was a Whale and Dolphin Wildlife Cruise. To be fair we did see a pod of dolphins between Man of War Bay and Tititiri Matangi Island and stayed there for about 30 mins but we spent the majority of the trip travelling between stops. In brief do not waste your money booking the Whale and Dolphin Wildlife Cruise, its just a ferry service. I thought it might be a real tame and boring ride around the harbor but they actually got the boat up to a fairly exciting speed with it leaned right over. We were lucky to have a perfect day with a nice breeze and clear skies. I wouldn't bother if its pouring rain or dead calm day. Anyone who wanted were able to participate as crew by manning the hand cranks to hoist and lower the sails as well as driving for a bit. Tip... there is no toilet on the boat so make sure to go before boarding. The crew were fun and gave lots of interesteing info about the boat, sailing, racing etc. Well worth it! We had Skipper Peter & Charlie on board Defiance and I didn't want it to end! When I asked if I could have a photo taken next to the steering wheel they said to get in behind the wheel and let me steer for a while. The ocean is my 'happy place' where all stress melts away and should I return to Auckland anytime soon, I would do this experience again as it's priced reasonably. We sailed with Captain Peter and his mate Joe and had a wonderful time. My husband talked me into doing this excursion since Auckland is called the City of Sails but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. They served us sodas or juice or their New Zealand soda LNP, which is like carbonated lemonade. I recommend the LNP to experience a local soda as it was refreshing and delicious. We had a beautiful sail and all of the kids and even some of the adults were able to ‘drive’ the sailboat which was a great picture. We would definitely do this again! Read more Written 9 March 2024

The captain and deck hand were professional and welcoming. Guests could take a turn at the wheel, which was cool. One of the guests had trouble finding the meeting point, delaying our departure. The captain asked if we could wait for the guest and we all agreed. I thought that was very kind and it didn’t shorten our sailing time. I would absolutely do this again. • Sussexseadog 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Wished I had seen the previous review for the Dolphin and Whale Cruise If you want a trip around the Hauraki Gulf stopping at Rotoroa Island, Man of War Bay, Tititiri Matangi Island and finally Gulf Harbour, then this is for you. What we actually thought we had booked and what was advertised, was a Whale and Dolphin Wildlife Cruise. To be fair we did see a pod of dolphins between Man of War Bay and Tititiri Matangi Island and stayed there for about 30 mins but we spent the majority of the trip travelling between stops. In brief do not waste your money booking the Whale and Dolphin Wildlife Cruise, its just a ferry service. No foiling like the AC boats of today but it was a 1995 competitor. Guests get the chance to cycle the winches and at the helm, with the crew directing.
