TN travel Mart draws 250 agencies
CHENNAI: More than 250 tour agencies and operators have registered to take part in the first ever Tamil Nadu travel mart, set to take place in Chennai during October 12-15. Of that number, nearly 100 operators are from abroad and representing over 40 nationalities.
The mart is being organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII Tamil Nadu) in association with Tamil Nadu Travel Mart Society. It is supported by Ministry of Tourism, Government of India & Department of Tourism, Government of TN.
T Nataraajan, President, Tamil Nadu Travel Market Society, said the mart is aimed at showcasing the potential of Tamil Nadu Tourism. He said neighbouring Kerala has been holding its travel market and exploiting its tourism potential.
According to Nataraajan, T N has a wide variety of attractions, ranging from temples, hill stations, beaches to fine arts, but the problem has been the lack of projection to both national and international market. “The upcoming travel mart will help to project the state in a big way,” he said. “We will be recommending little known places in rural areas to tour operators, so that they can persuade tourists to come here.” The mart will seek to highlight immense potential of medical tourism in TN.
Commenting on the interest shown in the mart, Nataraajan stated, “We have got an very good response so far. We expect more registrations in the coming days.” The organisers have planned to take the participants on a pre- meet tour to showcase the different regions of the state, having its own cultural heritage.
Over 200 stalls
An exhibition with more than 200 stalls is to be held at Chennai Trade Centre. The exhibition will provide business opportunities for hotels, restaurants and tour operators of the State.
