Tata Safari (2021) Review

Expert review by maxabout, introduction.

The first-gen Tata Safari was introduced in 1998 by the homegrown automobile manufacturer Tata Motors. This mid-size SUV has gone through various updates in the past few years. Nowadays, many automakers are reintroducing their SUVs with captain seats and other significant changes. In this way, the Tata company has also launched its 2021 model, Tata Safari, compliant with BS6 norms.

This all-new model was initially named Buzzard in 2019 and later shown as Gravitas at the Auto Expo in 2020. It was, however, released under the name Safari in January 2021. The new Tata Safari comes with several driving modes, including Eco, City, and Sport, as well as hill control and cruise control.

Tata Safari Design & Style

This just-launched Safari is only getting the name Safari; otherwise, it has no similarity with the previous versions. The new Tata Safari’s architecture is OMRGARC (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced Architecture), which is derived from the Land Rover’s D8 platform. It comes with a chrome-studded tri-arrow front grille, roof rails with Safari branding, HID Xenon projector headlamps coupled with dual function LED DRLs, and 3D LED taillamps.

As per the body dimensions, the new model SUV is 4661 mm in length, 1894 mm in width, and 1786 mm in height, with a 2741 mm wheelbase. The panoramic sunroof is available to enhance the riding quality. Roof rails are also available in non-sunroof variants to carry items weighing up to 75 kg. The plastic coating on the D-pillar slides down as an extension of the roof rail.

Tata Safari Interior Space

While talking about the interiors of this recently presented SUV, the company has loaded the new Safari with plenty of astonishing features such as a 6-way powered driver seat with adjustable lumbar support to comfort the lower back, 6 airbags, luxurious captain seats, a 3rd-row offered with separate air vents, cup holders, adjustable headrests, reading lights, two USB ports, and three-point seat belts.

The most significant thing about the interior is that the cabin is spacious enough. It is an oyster-white color theme with 3 rows of stadium seating. The 3rd-row seats are equally as comfortable as the other two rows, with ample headspace and leg space. The passengers may even relocate the front-row seats from the second row using a function known as "Boss Mode".

With the seating adjustability, users have the option of choosing various modes according to their requirements. These are called "experience modes" and are available as an executive, jamming, beach, camping, family drive, weekend, and golf mode. Besides this, child seat Isofix anchor points are available on rear seats.

Tata Safari Dashboard & Instrument Console

Looking forward to the dashboard of this stylish SUV, the grey-finished ashwood trim complements the rich-looking all-white upholstery. The centre of the console is equipped with an 8.8-inch Floating Island infotainment system that has an advanced 22.35cm high-resolution touchscreen supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

This new model comes with iRA connected car technology, which offers multiple features such as gamification, remote commanding, over-the-air updates and more. For the best sound quality possible, the new Safari has nine JBL speakers. The premium 320W audio system is available with 4 speakers, 4 tweeters, and 1 subwoofer with an amplifier.

Furthermore, the digital analogue cluster displays the tyre pressure and other crucial information. The SUV has ambient lights, fully automatic temperature control with HVAC, rain-sensing wipers, start-stop push-button, electrically adjustable and foldable outside mirrors, reverse camera parking, automatic headlamps, and a cooled storage box between the front seats.

Tata Safari Engine & Gearbox

Moreover, 2023 Tata Safari is powered by a BS6-compliant Kryotec 2.0L turbocharged, 1956cc, in-line 4-cylinder diesel engine that churns out 170 HP of power at 3750 rpm and 350 NM of torque at 1750–2500 rpm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission. Also, it comes with advanced ESP terrain response modes such as normal, rough, and wet to make the driving smooth and safe.

Tata Safari Variants and Color Options

The new model of Safari is available in 10 variants, which are XE, XM, XMA, XT, XT Plus, XTA Plus, XZ, XZA, XZ Plus, and XZA Plus. This SUV comes in six and seven-seat configurations, depending on the model. Oberon Black, White Gold, Black Gold, Royal Blue, Tropical Mist, Daytona Grey, Orcus White, and Tropical Mist Adventure are seven available paint choices.

Tata Safari Brakes, Suspension & Tyres

As for the braking duties of the SUV, it comes with front and rear disc brakes and electronic parking brakes with auto hold. 2023 Tata Safari is supported by an independent, lower wishbone, McPherson strut suspension with coil spring and anti roll bar up front and a semi-independent twist blade suspension with Panhard rod and coil spring up back. It has 235/70-R16 steel wheels in the XE, XM, and XMS variants, whereas the other variants have 235/60-R18 alloy wheels along with the 235/70-R16 size spare wheel.

Tata Safari Top Speed and Mileage

Furthermore, this brand-new SUV offers a 175+ kmph top speed. The kerb weight of the car is 1825 kg, but still, it gives better speed and sprints from a standstill to 100 kmph in around 11.48 seconds. When it comes to mileage, the new Safari is equipped with a 50-liter fuel tank and provides 16.14 kmpl as per ARAI. However, the mileage can vary according to the driver and the user.

Verdict - Should You Buy Tata Safari or not?

In the end, this newly launched Tata Safari is no doubt an outstanding SUV by Tata Motors, which offers enhanced levels of comfort and an excellent driving experience. But still, it has some flaws, such as no AWD feature and it is no longer a rugged and off-road SUV compared to its previous versions. However, the brand has loaded this new launch with all-new technologies to make it a tough competitor for the other SUVs in its segment.

The 5-seater SUV features Hyundai-sourced automatic transmission, Land Rover Discovery-sourced L550 platform, and more. Even the gear console’s side panel has been given a glossy look like Safari. Overall, the interiors look pretty cool with Silver highlights. The doors get leather and carbon finish handles. The rear doors also get extra storage. The approximate cost for the whole transformation was around Rs 40,000. Tell us what you think of the new modification job.

The Tata Harrier is powered by a Fiat-sourced 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel motor that offers a maximum power of 170PS and a peak torque of 350Nm, paired with a standard 6-speed MT and an optional 6-speed torque converter. The popular SUV comes with dual-tone alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, and an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Located one block off of Main Street, City Hall is a powerful civic statement at the heart of downtown Moscow. Designed by James Knox Taylor, Supervising Architect of the U.S. Treasury, this Renaissance Revival building served as Moscow’s post office for sixty-three years. Few other Idaho buildings in the early twentieth century cost as much or had as competent an architect. The building became the Moscow City Hall after a period of nearly twenty years of discussion and debate.

What is today the Moscow City Hall was built during the Progressive Era, when the federal government was expanding the civic infrastructure to meet the needs of a rapidly growing country. Taylor, a highly regarded classicist, spent fifteen years as supervising architect of the U.S. Treasury, overseeing the design and construction of more than 800 federal buildings, including this one. This handsome, three-story structure is built of brick, since stone was not readily available in the Moscow area. Here, the red brick is trimmed in ivory terra-cotta. Ground-floor windows are tall and round arched and the central panel of each is made up of double-hung, eight-over-eight sashes. These are flanked with four-pane sidelights and topped by graceful fan windows for a Palladian effect. Second-story windows are six-over-six rectangles, with accented corners and keystones of terra-cotta. The third story is shortened, set off by a terra-cotta course decorated with round discs. The small, third-story windows are shaded by a wide classical cornice with a course of large dentils. The original roof is metal seamed and hipped. The space below the cornice and between the third story windows is richly decorated with terra-cotta panels and patterned brickwork. A Scottish mason named Howard Buchanan was paid double wages to come to Moscow to execute the brickwork. Apparently, Buchanan was so particular about brick selection and laying that he nearly bankrupted the building’s contractor.

The main entrance is in the central bay of a five-bay facade, and is reached by a flight of ten steps. The fan window above the entrance is repeated over the four windows on this story. The main entry originally featured a revolving door that has since been removed. The south end of the building has a similar doorway in a three-bay front. The raised basement is marked by grill-covered openings below the first-floor windows. This public building is one of only five buildings in downtown Moscow that rise to the height of three stories or more, all of which were built by 1912.

In 1973 a new post office building was under construction and the fate of the old post office and courthouse was hotly debated. Local civic activists began a fervent dialogue with city officials and the Department of the Interior to identify possible uses for the stately building. The City of Moscow eventually purchased the building and by 1981 it had been partially refurbished for use as the Moscow Community Center. During the next decade further discussions led to the complete renovation of the building and its conversion to the Moscow City Hall.

The interior of what remains Moscow’s most handsome and sophisticated building has been fully restored. The old courtroom on the second floor, with its finely detailed oak paneling, was turned into chambers for the city council. The lobbies have been turned into a public gallery known as the Third Street Gallery. Only occasionally have historic buildings changed hands and uses in such satisfying ways.

Tata Curvv spotted yet again, will feature blind spot monitoring. Check details

  • Tata Motors is preparing to launch the Tata Curvv, a compact SUV, into the competitive Indian market. The vehicle has been recently spotted testing on Indian roads and will feature advanced technology such as blind-spot assist and a full ADAS suite.

Tata Curvv

Tata Motors is gearing up to enter the competitive compact SUV market with its upcoming model, the Tata Curvv. The SUV coupe has been undergoing testing for some time now and was showcased in near-production form at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in February 2024.

A recent spy shot of the Tata Curvv being tested on Indian roads has surfaced online. A video on social media reveals that the SUV will feature blind-spot assist, similar to the Tata Harrier and Safari , likely working alongside a full ADAS suite.

Recently, a test mule for the Tata Curvv EV was spotted near Coimbatore while it was on a test. The Curvv EV will sit above the Nexon EV in Tata Motors' lineup and will also be sold through the new EV-only dealerships that Tata Motors has opened recently.

The design of the Curvv EV is pretty familiar from the front as it looks similar to the Nexon facelift. However, it is the side profile and the rear where there are some significant changes. From the side, there is a new coupe-like profile so the rear portion slopes down quite a bit whereas at the rear, there is a new set of LED tail lamps.

Watch: Tata Curvv revealed at Bharat Mobility show: first look

The interior of the Curvv, as seen in recent spy images, will include a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, an all-digital instrument cluster, a twin-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo, touch-based HVAC controls, auto-dimming IRVM, and purple accents on the dashboard, akin to the Nexon.

The vehicle will measure 4,308 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width, and 1,630 mm in height, with a boot space of 422 litres and a wheelbase of 2,560 mm.

Tata has confirmed that the electric version of the Curvv will debut first, followed by the ICE iteration. The latter will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine, paired with manual and automatic gearboxes. The Tata Curvv will compete against rivals such as the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Citroen Basalt, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and MG Astor.

Tata Curvv spied again; new features leaked

  • To get blind spot assist feature
  • To be offered in both EV and ICE guise

Tata Motors is betting strongly on its upcoming product, the Curvv . This new coupe SUV will certainly be a head-turner when it comes to design and road presence. However, it is not all about design, as the automaker will bundle this upcoming coupe with plenty of tech and features.

Recently, the model was spied on a test run beside its sibling, the Nexon. Although the Nexon was a pre-facelifted model, it gave a good idea regarding the size, dimension, and road presence of the Tata Curvv . The upcoming coupe looks wider and has a more imposing stance compared to the Nexon.

Some of the design highlights of the Tata Curvv include a full-width light bar up front, split LED headlamps, redesigned grille and bumper, sloping roofline, flush-fitting door handles, connected LED taillights, and a shark fin antenna. Notably, the reflector design and positioning at the rear is similar to that of the new Nexon.

Another spy image reveals the addition of the blind spot assist feature, which is being offered in the Harrier and the Safari. This feature will likely work in tandem with the full ADAS suite. As for the features, the recent spy images of the interior reveal the cabin of the Curvv. It will feature a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, all-digital instrument cluster, twin-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo, touch-based HVAC controls, auto-dimming IRVM, and purple accents on the dashboard (similar to the Nexon).

The EV version of the Curvv will debut first followed by the ICE iteration. The latter will make use of a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine mated to manual and automatic gearboxes. Upon arrival, the Curvv will compete against the Citroen Basalt and the Mahindra XUV.e9 in its ICE and EV form, respectively.

MG Hector Blackstorm Edition launched at Rs 21.25 lakh

After the Astor and Gloster SUVs, MG has applied its all-black 'Blackstorm' treatment on the Hector SUV as well. MG has released the Hector Blackstorm edition in India, with an introductory price of Rs 21.24 lakh (ex-showroom) and this special edition of the car is available in five, six, and seven-seat versions. The Hector Blackstorm Edition is based on one-below-top Sharp Pro variant.

The Hector Blackstorm Edition is painted in a Starry-black exterior colour scheme and replaces all chrome features on the SUV with a gun-metal finish accented with red accents. This treatment includes the grille, the MG logo, the line on the bumpers, the cladding at the base of the doors, the trim linking the rear tail lights, and the false skid plates.

The headlights and taillights also have a smoked-out effect and the SUV has 18-inch alloy wheels with red callipers. Even the wing mirrors get some red accents to them. Apart from all this, the car doesn't have any changes made to its body.

Just like the other Blackstorm Editions from MG, the Hector Blckstorm too gets a blacked-out cabin. The seats are likewise upholstered in black leatherette, with 'Blackstorm' imprinted on the front headrests.

There are no significant changes to the amenities since the Hector already includes a 14-inch portrait-style infotainment screen, linked car technology, a panoramic sunroof, multi-colour ambient lighting, a motorized tailgate, and ventilated front seats. The safety package remains unchanged, with six airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, ADAS technology, and electronic stability control.

The Blackstorm Edition uses both of the current Hector's engine options including a 143PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and a 170PS 2-litre diesel engine. The diesel engine comes with a 6-speed manual transmission, whereas the petrol engine only has a CVT.

MG Hector Blackstorm Editon: Pricing

MG Hector Blackstorm Diesel (5-seater): Rs 21.95 lakh

MG Hector Blackstorm Plus Petrol (7-seater): Rs 21.98 lakh
