Jay Johnson and the LSU Tigers return to Alex Box Stadium on Thursday with a pivotal SEC series against No. 6 Vanderbilt set to take place.

No. 18 LSU has lost four straight games including a difficult loss to in-state foe Southern University.

Now, the defending National Champions will look to get back on track with a matchup against the Vanderbilt Commodores this weekend.

• Junior shortstop Michael Braswell III is hitting .438 (7-for-16) in LSU’s last five games … he batted .500 (5-for-10) in last weekend’s Arkansas series with one run, one walk, one hit-by-pitch and a .583 on-base percentage … Braswell is the Tigers’ top hitter in SEC games, batting .393 (11-for-28) with three doubles, two RBI and four runs.

• Senior outfielder Mac Bingham is hitting .400 (8-for-20) in LSU’s last five games with one double, three homers, three RBI and four runs … he hit .385 (5-for-13) in last weekend’s Arkansas series with one double, two homers, two RBI and two runs.

• Sophomore left-hander Griffin Herring delivered a superb relief effort in last Saturday’s game at Arkansas, working 4.2 scoreless innings and limited the Razorbacks to three hits with no walks and eight strikeouts.

• Junior third baseman Tommy White is batting .381 (8-for-21) in the Tigers’ last five games with three homers, four RBI and seven runs scored.

• As a team, LSU has hit 10 home runs in its last five games – Mac Bingham and Tommy White have three apiece, catcher/DH Hayden Travinski has two, and outfielder Ashton Larson and catcher/OF Brady Neal each have one dinger in that span.

Bruce Springsteen Signs Absentee Note for Young Fan During San Francisco Concert

Bruce Springsteen is all for a fan playing hooky.

During his San Francisco concert at the Chase Center on Sunday, March 31, "The Boss," 74, made an audience member's day by signing an absentee note for them.

According to fan-posted video and photos from the event, a young fan caught Springsteen's attention with a sign that read "Skipping school. Sign my note?"

The "Born to Run" artist happily obliged and kneeled down on the stage to sign the unnamed fan's note.

After postponing several of his 2023 tour dates due to  peptic ulcer disease , Springsteen returned to the stage late last month.

According to the Associated Press , the rock icon was in good spirits at the Footprint Center in Phoenix as he performed alongside the E Street Band, sans wife wife  Patti Scialfa .

In a pair of dark jeans and a red flannel shirt, Springsteen was greeted by a cheering crowd yelling “Bruuuuce!” ahead of his performance, per the publication.

His 29-song set included hits like "Born to Run" and a string of soul covers like “Nightshift” by the Commodores, “Because The Night” by Patti Smith Group, and “Twist and Shout” by The Top Notes/The Isley Brothers/The Beatles.

During the gig, Springsteen also addressed his illness before starting his final track "I’ll See You In My Dream," per the AP.

"Phoenix, first I want to apologize if there was any discomfort because we had to move the show last time. . . . I hope we didn’t inconvenience you too much," he told fans, according to the outlet.

In May 2022, Springsteen  announced  that he'd be heading out on tour in February 2023 for his and the band's first international run since 2017, and their first US tour dates since 2016.

However, his road back to the stage didn't go as smoothly as expected.

Just a month after the tour kicked off, Springsteen  postponed three shows  in a week "due to illness," according to a statement shared on the musician's Twitter page.

By August, the singer/songwriter had to  postpone two of his Philadelphia shows  due to having “taken ill."

In early September — through a statement shared on the singer's social media accounts — it was revealed that he was  "being treated for symptoms of peptic ulcer disease."

Under the "decision of his medical advisors," the remainder of Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band's September shows  were postponed .

• Duke re-enters Week 7 baseball Power 10 rankings

Another week of tough college baseball power 10 rankings.

1. Arkansas (Previous: 1)

Undisputed at the top is Arkansas after sweeping the reigning champs LSU. Everyone showed up. Hagen Smith with 10ks on Friday as Kendall Diggs backed it up with a three-run shot. Hudson White had a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the 10th on Saturday and Louisiana native Peyton Stovall sealed the sweep on Sunday. 

2. Clemson (3)

The Tigers move up. Clemson won the series over Miami to move to 24-3. Freshman righthander Aidan Knaak pitched 7.0 scoreless innings on Sunday. 

3. Texas A&M (4)

The Aggies swept Auburn this past weekend with Ted Burton delivering with the walk-off in the bottom of the 12th to secure the sweep.

4. Tennessee (5)

After getting run-ruled by Georgia on Friday night, they won the next two by 5 and 7 runs, respectively, shutting out the Dawgs offense on Sunday. No Georgia player had more than one hit in the game, including Charlie Condon.

5. Oregon State (2)

The Beavers drop 3 spots following a series loss to unranked USC. The third game of the series was rained out, but 2 losses nonetheless. Travis Bazzana opened the game with his fifth leadoff home run over the last six games on Saturday, but the 1-run lead was short-lived as the pitching staff gave up 17 rubs including a 10-run 5th inning. 

6. Vanderbilt (7)

I could still argue the Commodores are a little lower but 6-on is a tough ordering. Vandy was swept by South Carolina two weeks ago but swept Missouri this week. The next couple of weeks will be pivitol as they play LSU, Texas AM and Florida. That's when we will really be able to tell what the Commodores are made of. 

7. Florida (8)

Florida has got to have the weirdest record of anyone. They have 11 losses after another mid-week loss to FSU, but they won another weekend series over Mississippi State. Despite so many losses in the top 10 they haven't lost an SEC series yet. Jac Caglianone has been carrying them on Sundays, he even had the walk-off homer for the win this time around. 

8. Duke (NR)

Duke moves back in after winning the series over Virginia to move back to the top of the ACC.

9. Dallas Baptist (10)

Ryan Johnson continues to perform for DBU. 

10. Virginia (6)

Virginia just barely hangs on. A close game against Duke, a top-10 team, keeps them in the running. 

Dropped out —  North Carolina is my first team out, the Tar Heels swept Wake Forest over the weekend.

The Korn Ferry Tour’s domestic season kicks off in Savannah, Georgia, for the seventh playing of the Club Car Championship at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club. All four rounds of competition will air live on Golf Channel. Here’s what you need to know about the event and how to follow the action:

1. Strong Georgia roots

Fifteen players in the field played collegiately in the state of Georgia: nine from Georgia Tech (Shunyat Hak, Paul Haley II, Connor Howe, Chris Petefish, Seth Reeves, Ollie Schniederjans, Ross Steelman, Richy Werenski), four from University of Georgia (Erik Compton, Joey Garber, Trent Phillips, Spencer Ralston) and three from Georgia Southern (Ben Carr, Steven Fisk, Mason Williams). Additional players with local and regional ties to the area include Dawson Armstrong (born in Valdosta, Georgia), Emilio Gonzalez (a resident of St. Simons Island, Georgia), Billy Kennerly (plays from Alpharetta, Georgia) among others. Columbus, Georgia, native Ben Carr will also make his Korn Ferry Tour debut as a sponsor exemption this week.

2. The season-long race heats up

Mason Andersen sits atop the Korn Ferry Tour Points List through the first six events of the season after logging three top-10 finishes, highlighted by his first career title at last month’s 117 Visa Argentina Open presented by Macro. With the win in Argentina, Andersen earned an exemption for The Open Championship 2024 at Royal Troon. The top 30 finishers on the Points List at the conclusion of the Korn Ferry Tour Championship earn PGA TOUR cards for the 2025 season. Five players who finished T8 or better in this event last year went on to earn PGA TOUR cards at season’s end: David Skinns (Winner), Tom Whitney (T2), Max Greyserman (T6), Jacob Bridgeman (T6) and Nicholas Lindheim (T8).

3. Young talent continues to rise

All six players to win an event this season are first-time winners on the Korn Ferry Tour (Jeremy Paul, Aldrich Potgieter, Isaiah Salinda, Kevin Velo, Mason Andersen and Taylor Dickson). South African Potgieter, the youngest Korn Ferry Tour member this season, won The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic at The Abaco Club in January and became the youngest winner on either the Korn Ferry Tour or PGA TOUR since 1931 (19 years, 4 months and 11 days). Two weeks later at the Astara Golf Championship presented by Mastercard, Potgieter recorded a second-round 11-under 59 to become the youngest player to record a sub-60 round in a PGA TOUR-sanctioned event.

4. An indicator of future success?

Many past champions of the Club Car Championship have gone on to have success on the PGA TOUR. Reigning champion Skinns has posted two top-10 finishes on the PGA TOUR in 2024, including a T7 finish at last week’s Texas Children’s Houston Open. Sam Burns, who won the inaugural playing in 2018 as a rookie, earned his first PGA TOUR card in 2018 and has notched five PGA TOUR titles and 32 top-10 finishes in 141 starts. Adam Svensson won the 2021 Club Car Championship and currently has one PGA TOUR victory at The RSM Classic 2022.

Bruce Springsteen put on a magnificent show on Thursday night at Chase Center in San Francisco . Then he went out and topped that effort by delivering an even better concert at the same venue on Easter Sunday.

“Happy Easter,” the 74-year-old New Jersey native greeted the full house of fans. “It’s a religious crowd here tonight, I can tell — spiritual crowd.”

For his part, Springsteen went about his work with the enthusiasm of a revival tent preacher, strutting about the stage with passion and purpose and delivering each batch of words like they might be the ones that will change the very lives of those listening.

And the 16,500 followers in attendance ate it up — every single word — during all 29 songs of the approximately three-hour set.

Unlike Thursday’s show, which got off to a somewhat tepid start, Springsteen and his incredible 17-piece E Street Band came racing out of the gate with a fiery “Light of Day.” That relative rarity — which was being played for the first time on this 2024 tour — was actually first recorded by Springsteen in 1983 as part of the “Born in the U.S.A.” sessions, but never ended up making it onto that or any other of his studio albums. “Light of Day” would actually first surface in a performance by Michael J. Fox and Joan Jett, playing as the fictitious band the Barbusters in the 1987 film of the same name.

There were a lot of other differences between the two sold-out Chase Center shows, both of which consisted of 29 songs. Most significantly, the setlists varied in satisfying fashion, giving fans plenty of reasons to attend both.

On Thursday, fans got “Something in the Night,” “Two Hearts,” “No Surrender,” “Atlantic City,” “Death to My Hometown,” “Racing in the Street” and “Bobby Jean.” Those songs were absent on Sunday, replaced with “Light of Day,” “Night,” “Darkness on the Edge of Town,” “Darlington County,” “My City of Ruins,” “Glory Days” and a deliriously fun and unexpected cover of the Top Notes classic “Twist and Shout” (which most people know from the hit Isley Brothers and Beatles versions, the latter of which was introduced to an all new generation through “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”).

The concert was a juggernaut early on, as The Boss and company continued through the “Rising” anthem “Lonesome Day” (which has nicely settled into the No. 2 spot on this tour setlist) and the “Born to Run” cut “Night.” Setting a likely unintended theme, Springsteen went on to include four more night-titles in the show — with the others being “Prove It All Night,” “Spirit in the Night,” the Commodores cover “Nightshift” (featured on his 2022 covers album, “Only the Strong Survive”) and, of course, the powerful Patti Smith co-write “Because the Night.”

He’d draw from 10 studio albums — as well as the 1992 live effort “In Concert/MTV Plugged” — with the lion’s share of the setlist going to the legendary 1975 outing “Born to Run.” He pulled a half-dozen tracks from that career-maker, including two — “Born to Run” and “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out” — during the eight-song encore.

No matter how many times you experience it, “Born to Run” — performed with the house lights up — is an adrenaline rush that never fails to satisfy. It remains Springsteen’s greatest rock song, with “Thunder Road” being a somewhat distant second.

Yet, what will stick with many fans is the surprise that came at the end of the first encore.

The Boss has been closing this segment with “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out” on this tour — and, for good reason, since it’s a fun rocker that puts a real exclamation point on the E Street Band portion of the show. Then Springsteen remains onstage and plays a soft solo acoustic version of “I’ll See You in My Dreams” as the real finale.

But as the last notes of “Tenth Avenue” were still ringing through Chase Center, Springsteen decided to rev up one more — “by request,” he said — and led the E Streeters in a glorious old-school run through “Twist and Shout.” It was one of those special moments where Springsteen — who has been one of the biggest artists in rock ‘n’ roll now for some 40 years — channeled his Jersey bar band roots in such brilliant fashion.

A wave of pure joy washed over the 16,500 fans — some of whom were likely old enough to remember when the Beatles performed “Twist and Shout” on “The Ed Sullivan Show” in 1964 — illustrating once again why so many people consider Springsteen and the E Street Band to be the greatest live act in rock history.

Who's in the field, how to get tickets for annual Club Car Championship golf at The Landings

The picturesque Deer Creek Course at the Landings Golf & Athletic Club again will play host to the seventh annual Club Car Championship.

This week's event has become one of the marquee stops on the Korn Ferry Tour, a developmental tour where players compete to earn their way to the PGA Tour.

Past champions include Sam Burns, who won the title in 2018 and is now No. 21 in the Official World Golf Ranking. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, the betting favorite headed into the Masters Tournament next week, finished second behind Dan McCarthy in 2019 Club Car Championship.

Last year, David Skinns of England provided a great storyline as the 42-year-old University of Tennessee product won by a stroke, edging former Armstrong State star Shad Tuten and Tom Whitney for his third Korn Ferry Tour victory.

Here's what to know about the Club Car Classic this week.

Wednesday, April 2: There will be an Opening Ceremony held on the 10th hole tee box at noon.

Thursday-Sunday, April 3-6: The action will get started at 9 a.m. each day for ticket holders.

Players to watch

There are 156 golfers in the field who will be competing to make the 36-hole cut on Friday and compete on the weekend. Three former Georgia Southern standouts are in the field.

• Ben Carr was the runner-up in the 2022 U.S. Amateur and earned spots in the 2023 Masters and U.S. Open tournaments. He is playing in on a sponsor's exemption and making his debut on the Korn Ferry Tour.
• Former Eagle star Steven Fisk, who has a school-record nine collegiate wins and finished second in the 2019 NCAA Tournament, will also be teeing it up.
• The pair will be joined by Mason Williams from the GS Class of 2023, who punched his ticket to the tournament by shooting a 63 in a Monday qualifier.
• Every player ranked inside the top 50 on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List is in the field this week.
• Three past champions are in the field this week: T.J. Vogel (2022), Evan Harmeling (2020) and Dan McCarthy (2019).
• In addition to the three player from Georgia Southern, 12 players with collegiate ties in Georgia are in the field with eight from Georgia Tech (Shunyat Hak, Paul Haley II, Connor Howe, Chris Petefish, Seth Reeves, Ollie Schniederjans, Ross Steelman and Richy Werenski) and four from the University of Georgia (Erik Compton, Joey Garber, Trent Phillips and Spencer Ralston).

Other notables in the field include Mason Anderson and Kevin Velo, who are No. 1 and No. 2 among the Korn Ferry Tour money leaders. Anderson, the former Arizona State star, has won $233,483, while Velo, a former San Jose State standout, has pocketed $219,150.

Television coverage

The Golf Channel is set to broadcast the tournament, putting the spotlight on one of the top golf courses in the South. It is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Thursday and Friday, 3:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Daily tickets start at $10, and kids 17 and under receive free grounds access with a ticketed adult. Cultural life of Moscow city is various and rich! Operas, ballets, symphonic concerts... Russian composers have created some of the most beautiful classical music. Russian classical music is very popular in Moscow. It is performed in many beautiful historical venues. Do not forget to include a visit to a concert hall in your itinerary when you are planning your stay in Moscow! And do it in advance.

There are almost no restrictions on dress code in Russian theatres. Visitors may wear jeans and sports shoes, they may have a backpack with them. Only shorts are not allowed.

A typical feature of Russian theatre – visitors are bringing a lot of flowers which they present to their favorite performers after the show.

Here are some practical advices where to go and how to buy tickets.

The Bolshoi Theatre

The Bolshoi Theatre is the oldest, the most famous and popular opera and ballet theatre in Russia. The word “Bolshoi” means “big” in Russian. You can buy a ticket online in advance, 2-3 months before the date of performance on the official website . Prices for famous ballets are high: 6-8 thousand rubles for a seat in stalls. Tickets to operas are cheaper: you can get a good seat for 4-5 thousand rubles. Tickets are cheaper for daytime performances and performances on the New Stage. The New Stage is situated in the light-green building to the left of the Bolshoi's main building. The quality of operas and ballets shown on the New Stage is excellent too. However, you should pay attention that many seats of the Bolshoi’s Old and New Stages have limited visibility . If you want to see the Bolshoi’s Old Stage but all tickets are sold out, you can order a tour of the theatre. You can book such a tour on the official website.

If you want, following Russian tradition, to give flowers to the performers at the end of the show, in the Bolshoi flowers should be presented via special staff who collects these flowers in advance.

In August the Bolshoi is closed.

The Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre

This theatre is noteworthy. On one hand, it offers brilliant classical opera and ballet performances. On the other hand, it is an experimental venue for modern artists. The theatre has a very beautiful historic building and a stage with a good view from every seat. Tickets are twice cheaper than in the Bolshoi.

The Novaya Opera

“Novaya” means “New” in Russian. This opera house was founded in 1991 by a famous conductor Eugene Kolobov. Its repertoire has several directions: Russian and Western classics, original shows and divertissements, and operas of the 20th and 21st centuries. It is very popular with Muscovites for excellent quality of performances, a comfortable hall, a beautiful Art Nouveau building and a historic park Hermitage, which is situated right next to it. Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center

The Opera Center has become one of the best theatrical venues in Moscow. It was founded in 2002 by great diva Galina Vishnevskaya. Nowadays its artistic director is Olga Rostropovich, daughter of Galina Vishnevskaya and her husband Mstislav Rostropovich, great cellist and conductor. Not only best young opera singers perform here, but also world music stars do; chamber and symphonic concerts, theatrical productions and musical festivals take place here. Tchaikovsky Concert Hall and The Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory

These are two major concert halls for symphonic music in Moscow. Both feature excellent acoustics, impressive interior, various repertoire and best performers. Moscow International Performing Arts Center (MIPAC)

Actually, it has three concert halls placed on three different levels and having separate entrances.
