tj travel nha trang

Nha Trang city is one gleaming gem of Vietnam with its palm-lined beaches, crystal-clear water and soft, white sand. If your wanderlust is itching for a new experience to enjoy the salty breezes and pristine beaches, Nha Trang is the place to be. Here is what you need - Nha Trang Travel Guide .

Where is Nha Trang City?

Nha Trang is the seaside city of Khanh Hoa province. The province itself occupies a portion of Vietnam’s coastal attractions with its neighboring provinces: Phu Yen, Dak Lak, Lam Dong and Ninh Thuan. As for Nha Trang, it is adjacent to Ninh Hoa District, Cam Ranh Town and Dien Khanh District, with the Eastern Sea hugging its outer edge.

Nha Trang and their vicinity are quite high compared to sea level. It makes venturing to Nha Trang become difficult. However, the geological height also helps shelter the city away from the effects of violent winds and create a pleasant climate to spur tourism. Evidently, Nha Trang is affected by less than one major storm per year.

In response to the country’s burst of economic growth, Nha Trang’s skyline now dons a new look. Since 2009, apartment complexes, shopping malls and renovated neighborhood have helped propel the population passes the 500,000 marks.

Best time to visit Nha Trang

As a result of its tropical savanna and oceanic influence, Nha Trang’s climate consists of only two seasons: dry and rainy. While the dry season usually last for six months (January to June), the rain starts pouring as soon as July and continue to December. Do keep in mind that July and August are two of the hottest months in Nha Trang. Therefore, if you’re planning a summer trip in July or August, make sure to pack hats, sunscreen and sunglasses. In addition, bring an umbrella or light raincoat along, with chances of downpours and tropical storms.

Knowing all of this, the best time to visit Nha Trang is between February and April, when rainfall is still low and the temperature is kept mild and pleasant at around 26 degree Celsius. It is also great for a visit to the coral reefs at Mun Island, South Reef or Small Hill.

How to get to Nha Trang?

Suppose your starting line is Sai Gon, which is more than 400 kilometers away from Nha Trang, you will spend between 9 and 11 hours of arriving by sleeping bus or train. A one-way ticket to Nha Trang via buses can range from 232,000 - 278,500 VND (~10 to 12 USD) while a train ride can set you back as much as 696,000 VND (~30 USD).

Nha Trang travel guide

Another option, also the fastest one, is flying on an airplane. You can opt for a direct flight within one hour for 580,000 - 1,116,000 VND (~25 to 50 USD). Vietnam Airlines and Jetstar Pacific are the most popular airlines that offer flights to and from Nha Trang.

One other thing to keep in mind, should you choose to fly, you will not arrive at the central Nha Trang just yet. As Cam Ranh Airport is 30 kilometers South of Nha Trang, you will either take the bus or a taxi to the city.

For the taxi, it can be quite expensive if you’re travelling alone as you can expect as much as 300,000 VND (~13 USD) for a 45-minute trip to the city. As for the bus, the best option is to buy a 50,000-VND (~21,5 USD) ticket for a shuttle bus named “Dat Moi” at the reception desk at the airport. Then jump on bus 18, and hop off at bus 10, Yersin Street.

How to get around Nha Trang?

As for getting around town, Nha Trang offers plenty of options for you to choose.

First, there are taxis with reliable services. Taxis companies supply the large number of drivers, it means you can easily catch a taxi and don’t need to wait for a long time.  As a plus, they are English-speaking drivers which is easier for you to communicate and get to your destination.

However, this choice is not very budget-friendly. For the first 30 kilometers, it costs from 14,000 VND (~0.58 USD) per kilometer. After the initial kilometer marks, the price will be reduced to 7,000 VND (~0.34 USD) per kilometer.

Tips from Inspitrip: Choosing taxi will help you avoid the hot weather and fits with a group of friends. If you travel alone, prepare for yourself a note with address written down, a google map app and a suitable price to deal with the driver. You can ask the hotel’s receptionist for an ideal price to reach your destination.

No matter how pedestrian friendly Nha Trang is, there would be times when you just don’t wanna walk under the burning sun. That is why buses, most are equipped with air-conditioning, comfortable seating and cheap fare, are the wonderful option. It will cost you maximum 16,000 VND (~0.69 USD) per trip.

That said, taking a bus in Nha Trang is not without difficulties. The majority of signs are still only available in Vietnamese as well as the drivers who can only speak Vietnamese. This is why having a google map and a translation app beforehand is a must. Be sure to keep checking your belongings as pickpockets are common in Nha Trang. Additionally, buses only operate until 6 p.m and can be really crowded during rush hours. Make sure you planned your schedule and will not miss any bus.

Xe Om (Motorcycle taxi)

Though this is an amazing way to take in the scenery, sitting behind a stranger while weaving your way through traffic can be quite daunting. However, if you’re up for it, here is what you should know.

You can hire a driver straight from the streets. Simply walk towards, tell where you need to go, preferably with a map or translated messages and negotiate a price. The wonderful thing about ‘xe om’ is feeling like a local. However, there is the risk of being overcharged and the route or length of the journey is completely up to the drivers. So make sure to check your map, and be ready to walk if the price is too steep.

Grab bike/ Grab car

The better alternative for this is using the ride-hailing app such as Grab. In Southeast Asia, it is the most popular and reliable one that you should use. What’s great is that it lets you know who your driver is, how much you will be charged, and pick-up information. Therefore, every transaction is clear and you can forgo the haggling.

Tips from Inspitrip:

  • Remember to buy a local SIM card with mobile data if you wanna get around by Grab. It supports the login process and a phone number for driver to contact you.
  • Consider to book a Grab during rush hours due to the surge price and slow pick-up.

Renting a bike

Dear adventurous souls, renting a bicycle or motorbike is the option for you to explore Nha Trang at your own pace. Having more freedom in exploring means that you need to know where you’re going. It’s time to think about a well-planned itinerary or finding a local guide. And for every time you rent a bike, you will be required to pay a deposit and present your ID, passport, etc. As such, be careful of scams and obey traffic regulations. Depending on the type of motorbike, prices can range from 70,000 to 163,000 VND (~3 to 7 USD) for 24 hours.

The beach scene along the coats of Nha Trang, Vietnam with the city skyline towering along the coastline

With its white sandy beaches stretching into a dramatic backdrop of mountains, and with nineteen stunning islands to visit, it’s no wonder Nha Trang is a popular beach destination for backpackers and travelers in Vietnam .

Once a sleepy seaside village, the city grew into a coastal vacation hub during the French occupation and that has persisted to this day.

As one of the most popular beach towns in Vietnam, there’s a lot to do here. While Nha Trang Beach is continuously abuzz with visitors who love to come here to party, you don’t have to go far to reach Bai Dai Beach (Long Beach), which offers a much more relaxed environment. I enjoyed the city a lot and found the beach to be one of my favorites in the country. Try to visit off-season or mid-week to avoid the crowds if you want a more relaxed visit as the city draws a lot of tourists.

This Nha Trang travel guide can help you plan your trip, save money, and make the most of your visit to this popular seaside getaway.

Top 5 Things to See and Do in Nha Trang

The towering Po Nagar pagoda in Nha Trang, Vietnam

1. Snorkel and dive

Snorkeling and diving are probably the most popular things to do in Nha Trang thanks to its affordability, colorful reefs, and underwater caves. While there is not a ton of marine life here due to overfishing, the caves and narrow swim-throughs make it a fun place to explore. It’s best to avoid the windiest months (October and December) as rough seas cause many dive cancellations. Expect to pay around 1,700,000 VND for two dives. Nha Trang Fun Divers is one of the most popular options in the city.

2. Visit Po Nagar

Dedicated to Yan Po Nagar, the goddess of the country, this temple tower was built sometime before 781 CE and is still an active site of worship for Buddhists so be sure to dress respectfully and take off your shoes before entering. It’s located on a mountain overlooking the Cai River, so you get 360-degree views of the beautiful landscape around Nha Trang. There are some interesting statues and inscriptions within and around Po Nagar too, which became associated with the Hindu goddesses Bhagavati and Mahishasuramardini. Admission is around 25,000 VND.

3. Lounge on the beach

While Nha Trang beach is the main beach, another nearby option is Bai Dai Beach (Long Beach), which stretches for 6 miles (10 kilometers) of gorgeous white sand. It’s more relaxed with little cafes and restaurants serving seafood right on the shore. This beach is often less crowded and is just 18 kilometers (11 miles) from the city center and on the way to the airport, though encroaching resorts are slowly claiming much of the beachfront. There is a bus that runs from the city center and can drop you off near the beach, just be sure to tell the bus driver ahead of time so you don’t miss the stop. Note that, while some resorts claim the beach is private, it’s not; just don’t enter via any of the resorts or they’ll make you buy food/drinks.

4. See the Buddha at Long Son Pagoda

Long Son Pagoda is the largest pagoda in the city. Founded in the late 19th century the pagoda is home to a 29-meter (79 foot) white Buddha statue. To get there you have to hike 152 stone steps to the top of the hill where the pagoda sits surrounded by trees. It was built to honor monks and nuns who died protesting against the Diem government (the Diem government favored Catholocism and persecuted Buddhists in 1963). Long pants are required to enter the inside of the temple and if you are offered an incense stick by locals at the temple, you will have to pay a small fee for it. Admission is free.

5. Go boating

A lot of companies offer sailing trips (and yacht trips if you want to really splash out) from Nha Trang. You can see the different islands off the mainland and usually do some snorkeling. There are also booze cruise boat tours aimed at younger travelers who like to party. Depending on which company you choose, the trip can be wildly entertaining with live music performances, time to swim, and lunch on deck. A full-day experience starts at around 165,000 VND.

Other Things to See and Do in Nha Trang

1. relax in the hot springs.

Hot springs and mud bathing are popular in Nha Trang. Locals believe that the mud has healing powers due to its composition of rocks and volcanic ash. You’ll sit in a stone tub while a pipe showers you with soft, fast-flowing mud. There are plenty of options of hot springs to choose from including an egg-themed hot spring where you can bathe in egg-shaped pods. Prices vary but expect to pay at least 180,000 VND per person. Most tickets include a towel but ask ahead of time in case you need to bring your own.

2. Head to Yang Bay

Yang Bay is an eco-park just outside of Nha Trang. Once you get here you will find three different sets of waterfalls: Yang Bay, Yang Khang, and Ho Cho. However, reaching these falls takes a little work. Surrounded by dense forest and mountainous terrain, it’s slightly off the beaten track and makes for an exciting day trip (it’s around one hour from the city by car). You can take a taxi from Nha Trang to get here or join a guided tour (your hostel can help you organize this). Tickets start from 150,000 VND.

3. Visit the National Oceanographic Museum

At the far south end of Nha Trang is the National Oceanographic Museum. It’s ideal for those who do not want to go diving as there is a marine biodiversity showroom with 300 types of marine species and displays educating the public on how to do a better job protecting the ocean. One of the highlights are the tanks with (live) reef sharks, seals, turtles, and more. It’s a fun and educational way to spend a few hours when the weather isn’t great. Admission is 40,000 VND.

4. Shop in Cho Dam Market

The Cho Dam open-air market has the best shopping in Nha Trang (it’s the biggest market in the city too). With vendors selling fresh produce, fish, and everything from fake designer gear to watches, I highly recommend that you put on your bargaining hat and see what you can find. There are also lots of places to eat here so bring an appetite. Located right off of Ben Cho Street, it’s open from 5am to 6pm.

5. Visit the Alexandre Yersin Museum

Dr. Yersin (1863–1943) was a Swiss scientist who came to Vietnam in the late 19th century to study sick animals. He is most renowned for having co-discovered the bacteria responsible for the bubonic plague, and he also founded the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang, which handles vaccination and hygiene programs for the area. This small museum showcases his work and findings. It’s super educational and doesn’t take long to see. Admission is around 26,000 VND.

6. Hike to the Bao Dai Villas

These villas were originally built for Emperor Bao Dai in the early 1900s. They are perched on top of a small hill, and although the villas aren’t really worth checking out, the view is. From the top, you’ll have an awesome panorama of Nha Trang Bay. Pack a snack, bring your camera, and soak up the view overlooking the city and ocean.

Nha Trang Travel Costs

The relaxing beach along the coast of Nha Trang, Vietnam with a small boat floating near a sandbar

Hostel prices – Hostels start at 100,000 VND per night for a bed in a 4-8 person dorm. Hostels usually have free Wi-Fi, outdoor bar areas, and (sometimes) free breakfast. Private rooms cost around 250,000 VND per night for a double. Only a few hostels offer self-catering facilities for cooking your own meals as eating out here is so cheap you don’t really need to cook during your stay.

Budget hotel prices – Expect to pay at least 400,000 VND for a two-star hotel room. Free Wi-Fi is standard, and a handful of budget hotels also include free breakfast. Many are right near the beach too, though prices are generally a bit higher here.

Airbnb is available in the city with private rooms costing around 325,000 VND per night. For an entire home/apartment, expect to pay at least 480,000 VND. Prices double when not booked in advance so book early to find the best deals.

Food – Vietnamese cuisine uses a lot of noodles, rice, fish, and fresh herbs. Wonton noodle soup, beef stew, chicken curry, fish and seafood, and grilled pork are just some of the popular dishes you’ll find here — on top of the ubiquitous pho and ban mi (French bread) of course. Common ingredients include ginger, coriander, chili, lime, lemongrass, and Thai basil leaves.

Street food starts at under 25,000 VND while Western food is usually triple or quadruple that price (or more). Fast food is around 100,000 VND for a combo meal.

If you want to splash out, a three-course meal with a drink starts at around 250,000 VND. Chinese food starts at around 40,000 VND for a main dish while a large pizza starts at 150,000-200,000 VND.

Beer costs around 25,000 VND while a latte or cappuccino costs around 45,000 VND. Bottled water is around 8,000 VND.

I don’t recommend cooking your own food here since eating out is so cheap in the city. You’ll get better food and less expensive prices. Just enjoy the food stalls and vendors.

Backpacking Nha Trang Suggested Budgets

On a backpacker budget, expect to spend 450,000 VND per day. This covers staying in a hostel dorm, eating street food for all your meals, limiting your drinking, taking the public bus everywhere, and sticking to cheap activities like hanging out at the beach and visiting the pagodas. If you plan on drinking, add another 25,000-50,000 VND to your daily budget.

On a mid-range budget of 1,325,000 VND per day, you can stay in a private Airbnb, eat out at some Western places, drink more, take the occasional taxi, and do more paid activities like scuba diving or a booze cruise.

On a “luxury” budget of 2,400,000 VND per day or more, you can stay in a hotel, eat out anywhere you want, drink as much as you want, take more taxis, and do whatever tours and activities you want. This is just the ground floor for luxury though. The sky is the limit!

You can use the chart below to get some idea of how much you need to budget daily, depending on your travel style. Keep in mind these are daily averages — some days you’ll spend more, some days you’ll spend less (you might spend less every day). We just want to give you a general idea of how to make your budget. Prices are in VND.

Nha Trang Travel Guide: Money-Saving Tips

Nha Trang, like the rest of Vietnam, is incredibly budget-friendly. But, as it’s a touristy place, sometimes prices are a bit inflated. Here are some ways you can save money in Nha Trang during your visit:

  • Shop around for dives – There are quite a few dive shops in Nha Trang so it’s possible to hunt around for the best price and bargain with the shop owners.
  • Eat the street food – As in most of Vietnam, street food is the cheapest and most exciting local food you can find. Stick to street food to eat cheap.
  • Sleep far from the beach – Hotels and Airbnbs near the beach are more expensive than those a bit further away. Stay further away from the tourist hub to save money on accommodation.
  • Eat free breakfast – Some hostels offer free breakfast. Pick a hostel that does so to save paying for an extra meal. It won’t be anything fancy but it will be free!
  • Ask for price estimates – Not sure how much a taxi should cost? Don’t want to get ripped off at the market? Ask your hotel/hostel staff for price estimates so you don’t get ripped off when shopping.
  • Bring a reusable water bottle – The tap water in here is not safe to drink. To save money and reduce your plastic use, bring a reusable water bottle with you. LifeStraw make a reusable bottle with a built-in filter so you can be sure your water is always safe and clean.

Where to Stay in Nha Trang

After COVID, there are not a ton of hostels left in the city. Here are your best options if you’re on a budget:

  • Ccasa Hostel & Coffee Bar
  • Bondi Beach Backpackers

How to Get Around Nha Trang

The beach scene along the coast of Nha Trang, Vietnam

Bus – Buses rarely cost more than 15,000 VND per journey. There are six main routes across Nha Trang. You’ll have to pay cash to the driver when you get onboard so make sure you have exact change.

Cyclo – Cyclos are three-wheeled bicycle taxis found mostly in the touristy areas around Nha Trang Beach and are suitable for short distances. They carry 1-2 people, although two people are a tight squeeze. Make sure you negotiate your fare first and expect inflated prices.

Bike rental – Cycling is one of the best ways to see Nha Trang. You can rent a bike for just as little as 25,000 VND while scooters and motorcycles start at around 100,000-150,000 VND per day.

Taxi – Taxis start at 13,000 VND and go up by around 16,000 VND per kilometer. While not expensive, they aren’t cheap relative to the cost of everything else here so skip them if you can.

When to Go to Nha Trang

Nha Trang only has two seasons: the rainy season and the dry season. The dry season is from January until August, while the monsoon season is from September until December. The dry season receives very little rainfall. During monsoon season, you’re likely to experience sudden downpours each day, however, these downpours never last longer than a few hours.

Temperatures are nice year-round though and thanks to its location on the coast. It doesn’t get much higher than 30°C (86°F) here.

Between February and May is the best time to visit, with temperatures averaging between 26-27°C (79-45°F). There’s consistent sunshine every day, though it’s also more crowded. Expect some crowds and higher prices.

If you’re here specifically to dive, come between January and September. The rainfall is lowest during these months, and visibility at the dive sites is the best.

How to Stay Safe in Nha Trang

Nha Trang is a safe place to backpack and travel. Violent crime against travelers is rare. Petty theft is your biggest concern (especially in the markets) so always keep your valuables secure and out of reach.

Do NOT bring your valuables to the beach, no matter how determined you are to keep an eye on them. Things disappear there quickly.

Also, keep an eye out for thieves looking to grab your purse/bag while you’re out and about. They can sometimes be on scooters so always keep your bag across your chest and not just over one shoulder.

Overall, scams are common in Vietnam, though most are just people trying to nickel and dime you. Both children and adults work together on scams, so keep an eye out. Never get into a taxi without a meter or without agreeing on a price. The same applies to cyclos. You can read about common travel scams to avoid here .

The traffic here is insane (there are no traffic lights or pedestrian walkways) so you need to be careful when crossing the road. Be especially cautious at night. Accidents are super common.

Solo female travelers should generally feel safe here. However, the standard precautions apply (never leave your drink unattended at the bar, never walk home alone intoxicated, etc.). You can read more on one of the many solo female travel blogs about specific safety tips.

If you do experience an emergency, dial 113 for assistance.

Always trust your gut instinct. Make copies of your personal documents, including your passport and ID.

The most important piece of safety advice I can offer is to purchase good travel insurance. Travel insurance will protect you against illness, injury, theft, and cancellations. It’s comprehensive protection in case anything goes wrong. I never go on a trip without it as I’ve had to use it many times in the past. You can use the widget below to find the policy right for you:

Nha Trang Travel Guide: The Best Booking Resources

These are my favorite companies to use when I travel. They consistently have the best deals, offer world-class customer service and great value, and overall, are better than their competitors. They are the companies I use the most and are always the starting point in my search for travel deals.

  • Skyscanner – Skyscanner is my favorite flight search engine. They search small websites and budget airlines that larger search sites tend to miss. They are hands down the number one place to start.
  • Hostelworld – This is the best hostel accommodation site out there with the largest inventory, best search interface, and widest availability.
  • Agoda – Other than Hostelworld, Agoda is the best hotel accommodation site for Asia.
  • Booking.com – The best all around booking site that constantly provides the cheapest and lowest rates. They have the widest selection of budget accommodation. In all my tests, they’ve always had the cheapest rates out of all the booking websites.
  • Get Your Guide – Get Your Guide is a huge online marketplace for tours and excursions. They have tons of tour options available in cities all around the world, including everything from cooking classes, walking tours, street art lessons, and more!
  • SafetyWing – Safety Wing offers convenient and affordable plans tailored to digital nomads and long-term travelers. They have cheap monthly plans, great customer service, and an easy-to-use claims process that makes it perfect for those on the road.
  • LifeStraw – My go-to company for reusable water bottles with built-in filters so you can ensure your drinking water is always clean and safe.
  • Unbound Merino – They make lightweight, durable, easy-to-clean travel clothing.

3 Days in Nha Trang Itinerary: Beaches & Mud Baths in Nha Trang, Vietnam

Nha Trang 3 Day Itinerary: City Tour

Nha Trang is one of the most well-known tourist destinations in Vietnam . From endless beaches and snorkeling activities to booming volume of high rises and resorts along the beachfront, welcome to Nha Trang.

How many days should you spend in Nha Trang? The perfect amount of time is 3 days in Nha Trang to visit the highlights .

If we were to redo our trip, 2 days in Nha Trang would also have been enough time. Extend it to 4 days or more if you want more relaxation and exploration. Although we would recommend that you visit the other Vietnam beach cities – Danang , Phu Quoc , or Con Dao Islands .

Nha Trang often gets mixed reviews from travelers. Located off of the South Central Coast, Nha Trang is a popular destination for Russians, Chinese, and local Vietnamese tourists. (You’ll see signs in both Vietnamese and Russian languages.) Plus, it’s the bigger, crazier brother of Mui Ne (another beach area closer to Ho Chi Minh City ) with more beaches, parties, and nightlife.

It was my mom’s first time in Vietnam and I wanted to give her a comprehensive experience of Southern Vietnam .

While the city’s vibe is not one of my favorite places in Vietnam, there are some charming areas and plenty of things to do in Nha Trang.

In this post, we’re covering how to spend 3 days in Nha Trang . With this Nha Trang itinerary, we’ll cover some of the general information on how to get to Nha Trang, transportation, Nha Trang accommodations, how to get around, and where to eat in Nha Trang.

Check out our other Vietnam posts to help you with your planning.

Nha Trang Itinerary: Day 1 – Shopping & Beach Time

After you’ve arrived in Nha Trang, head to your accommodations to drop off your luggage. On this first day in Nha Trang, you can spend the time enjoying the sunshine on the Nha Trang beach and shopping.

Nha Trang Beach

One of the main highlights is visiting the Nha Trang beach . The golden sandy beach stretches to over 6 kilometers (3.7 miles).

The most popular area is Tran Phu Beach as many of the guesthouses and resorts are close by . There are a lot of people lounging on the beach throughout the day and especially crowded during the sunset period.

While the beach and the ocean aren’t the cleanest, taking a quick dip in the ocean is refreshing. During our visit in November, the water wasn’t cold but the waves were harsh and I was almost washed away.

It’s best to bring your own towels to relax at the beach.

If you want to sit on a lounge chair, the hawker seller will charge a minimum of 100,000 VND ($4.30 USD) per person . We made the mistake of sitting on one and thought that ordering a fresh coconut would have been enough.

Resorts also reserve certain areas for guests. We’re not sure how this is even legal, but there is a monopoly on designated spaces on the beach.

Nha Trang 3 Day Itinerary: Visit the beach

Visiting Nha Trang beach during the sunset is a must-see during your 3 days in Nha Trang

Walking along the coastline and even along Tran Phu is a great option if relaxing is not your thing. How can you not resist the immaculate palm trees?!

We passed by the Sailing Club w hich was a popular place to hang out and eat.

If you’ve been to Ho Chi Minh City, you’ve probably been to Ben Thanh Market. In Nha Trang, Dam Market ( Chợ Đầm) is the equivalent version. Located in the northern part of the city center, it’s considered one of the largest markets in the city .

It’s recommended to visit in the morning. Dam Market is bustling with vendors that sell fresh produce, seafood, and beautiful flower bouquets on the outside of the market! Inside the market area is the main building with two levels of vendors selling an array of souvenirs and clothes.

Don’t forget to bargain if you’re planning to buy souvenirs .

If you come in the afternoon, the outside area is empty but still active in the main building.

Address: Between Nguyễn Công Trứ and Bến Ch ợ, Vạn Thạnh, Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa Province

Night Market

The Night Market (Chợ Đêm) is a bit touristy yet it’s fun to do some shopping. You’ll find similar items like at Cho Dam. If you’ve been eyeing a fruit-printed shirt or want to buy cashews in bulk, then consider visiting this place.

Address: Intersection of Nguyễn Thi and Trần Phú, Lộc Thọ, Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa Province

Shopping Centers

It seems like Nha Trang has a shopping center at every corner. Take a break from the heat and humidity with the much-appreciated air conditioning. Head to one of many shopping centers to purchase new swimming outfits, watch movies, or browse around at Nha Trang Center or Vincom Plaza .

Nha Trang Itinerary: Day 2 – City Tour

Now that you’re relaxed and have your bearings for the city, let’s take a Nha Trang city tour. On your second out of three days in Nha Trang, this is a fabulous opportunity to explore the scenic areas and also hidden gems.

We did a 4-hours city morning tour with OneTrip . If you haven’t heard about OneTrip, they provide travelers with a variety of fun experiences with local guides and works closely with the communities in main Vietnam cities. Other adventures include food, waterfall, hiking, and more.

We loved OneTrip and hanging out with the guides so much that we took two tours with them in Dalat a few days later. (Update: OneTrip doesn’t offer the city tours anymore for Nha Trang and Dalat but do check out the Facebook page for updates.)

Check out this alternative half day city tour of Nha Trang here.

For our tour, we decided to ride a motorbike versus having a car to see the main attractions of Nha Trang from pagoda to beautiful views along the coastline. T he guides ensure your safety when riding the motorbike.

Our guides, Tri and Trang, met us at our hotel and we were off to the following places:

Coastal Drive

After leaving the main city area, we navigated through the mountains to the coastal area of Nha Trang. We stopped at a picturesque spot to see the blue waters and also take photos along the quiet road. It’s rare to not encounter traffic or have to worry about cars or motorbikes on the road!

Vinh Luong Fishing Village

Nha Trang gets their fresh seafood from Vinh Luong Fishing Village . It’s an off-beaten path as we didn’t see other visitors during our visit.

Visiting the fishing village is an eye-opening way to see the lifestyle and the hard work of the fishermen. The blue water is surreal here compared to the Nha Trang beach area. Like what we’ve seen in Ly Son Island , the round boats are used for fishing here as well!

Due to the chopping waves, there wasn’t as much action on the fishing dock. However, we saw a couple of sellers selling a variety of fish and octopuses. If you’re sensitive to the smell of fish, you may want to skip this place.

Address: Cảng cá Vĩnh Lương, Nha Trang

Nha Trang 3 Day Itinerary: Visit the Vinh Luong Fishing Village

Vinh Hai Market

We love visiting the local markets for the vibe and seeing the bright colors of the produce. Vinh Hai Market (Chợ Vĩnh Hải) is geared more to the locals versus Cho Dam . We stopped by for a chè, Vietnamese dessert, break. It was one of the best chè that we’ve eaten as it wasn’t too sweet and had lots of jellies (our favorite!)

Address: Hai Tháng Tư, Vĩnh Hải, Nha Trang

Long Son Pagoda

Now, we’re off to see the Long Son Pagoda (Chùa Long Sơn). The pagoda is up on a hill so there is some stair-climbing involved. At the peak of the pagoda is a white Buddha statue where you can enter inside to see carvings. On the lower level of the area, you can see a reclining Buddha.

Address:  20 Đường 23/10, Phương sơn, Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa Province

Nha Trang 3 Day Itinerary: Long Son Pagoda

Po Nagar Cham Towers

The Cham people are an integral part of the Vietnamese culture as one of the ethnic minorities in the country. If you’ve been to Cambodia’s Siem Reap,  Vietnam’s Mui Ne,   Quy Nhon , or My Son (a UNESCO site ), you’ll see the similar Khmer architecture at Po Nagar Cham Towers (Tháp Bà Ponagar).

We’re fans of seeing temples and this place is one of the popular must-see places in Nha Trang . The temples get crowded so it’s best to come early in the morning. Admission cost is 22,000 VND ($1 USD).

Address:  2 Tháng 4, Vĩnh Phước, Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa Province

Nha Trang 3 Day Itinerary: Po Nagar Towers

Po Nagar Towers is an incredible place to visit during your 3 days in Nha Trang.

Whew! We accomplished a lot during the morning. We said our goodbyes to our new friends, Tri and Trang. Feel free to spend the afternoon at leisure along the beach.

Nha Trang Itinerary: Day 3 – Nha Trang Mud Bath

On our third day in Nha Trang, we originally planned to go to the Ba Ho Waterfalls. H owever, the morning had non-stop thunderstorms. It would have been too dangerous to visit the waterfalls in the afternoon with wet grounds.

Related: Check out beautiful waterfalls in Vietnam

Plans changed to incorporate more R&R (rest and relaxation) at the popular mud bath spas .

Yes, you heard that right – we’re going to soak in mud! It can be daunting to sit in the mud, but it’s relaxing and good for the skin.

There are three popular spa places to choose from.

  • 100 Eggs Theme Park (Khu Du Lịch Trăm Trứng) – The theme park reminds us of this adorable egg jingle. If you love eggs or want to sit in an egg-shaped mud bath, then this place is for you. You won’t have enough of the egg theme.
  • Thap Ba Hot Spring (Tắm bùn Tháp Bà) – Click here to save money on your spa package at Thap Ba Hot Springs.
  • I-Resort (Suối Khoáng Nóng I-Resort) – Click to save money on your I-Resort package here.

We ended up going with I-Resort due to a recommendation from Tri, our OneTrip guide from yesterday.

It was the right choice as we chose the VIP package for some privacy and pampering. The package came with a silky smooth mud bath, a soak in the mineral pool, 45 minutes massage, Himalayan salt steam room, and choice of meal. It was pricey at 3 million VND ($129 USD) for two people but well-worth the half-day here. There are public mineral pools and mud baths available which will be cheaper.

Read more about our I-Resort spa experience here.

If you forget your swimsuit (like us), they have swimsuits available for you to borrow. You may want to consider borrowing them since the mud can damage light-colored swimsuits.

Address: Tổ 19, Thôn Xuân Ngọc, Vĩnh Ngọc, Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa Province

Jackie Szeto, from Life Of Doing, and her mom are spending their Nha Trang 3 Day Itinerary in a Mud bath at I-Resort

The warm mud bath at I-Resort has a silky chocolate texture. It’s quite relaxing and a great way to spend our third day in Nha Trang.

Other Places to Consider for Your Nha Trang Visit

We didn’t a chance to visit all of the places in the Nha Trang during our 3 days. Here are some ideas to explore if you have more time in Nha Trang.

VinWonders Nha Trang (VinPearl Amusement Park)

VinWonders Nha Trang, also referred to as VinPearl Amusement Park, is one of the most fun adventures to do in Vietnam . Spend the day at this amusement park which has shows, a zoo, beautiful gardens, and a water theme park. Don’t forget to take the cable car to get to the park and see the nice views of the city.

Read our experiences at VinWonders Nha Trang theme park here.

Purchase discounted tickets to VinPearl Amuseument Park here.

Snorkeling in Nha Trang

We heard that the snorkeling and the diving opportunities are incredible in Nha Trang. Hon Mun Island or Hon Mieu Island are popular destinations to swim. Unfortunately, we encountered rainy weather during our time in November, so the waters were rougher. If the weather is better, consider taking this tour opportunity .

Hon Tam Island

Let’s spend the day at one of Vietnam’s islands . Hon Tam Island is south of the main Nha Trang. You need to take a speedboat to visit this private island. The day will pass by quickly with swimming in the pools and ocean, soaking in the mud baths, and eating some delicious seafood lunch. You can also kayak and do outdoor water activities.

Read about our Hon Tam Island experience here.

National oceanographic museum.

Located in the city center, the National Oceanographic Museum is an aquarium and a museum which is a nice option for children. You’ll see a variety of fish and marine life in the aquarium or head to the museum to see a whale skeleton and other preserved animals on display.

How to Get to Nha Trang

It’s easy to take a flight from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang. The closest airport to Nha Trang is Cam Ranh International Airport (airport code: CRX). The distance between Cam Ranh to Nha Trang is about 34 kilometers (21 miles).

Transfer from Cam Ranh airport to Nha Trang, via the Dat Moi Bus ( Đất Mới Bus) . Exit the Arrivals Hall and purchase tickets at the kiosk outside. It’s a yellow and white bus that departs from the airport to the Nha Trang city center. This is the cheapest way as it cost 50,000 VND ($2.15 USD) per person. Reservations are not necessary.

The ride takes about an hour where you’ll pass through Cam Ranh, home of future apartments and resorts along the coastline. The bus customer service person will notify the bus driver to drop you off on the main street near your hotel. You can find the return bus back to the airport along the main roads with the line #18 bus sign.

Nha Trang 3 Day Itinerary: Cam Ranh Airport to Nha Trang Bus

Look for this Dat Moi Bus sign outside of the Arrivals Hall to purchase tickets.

Once you depart the airport, you can also consider taking a taxi or hire a private driver to bring you to the city center. This will be an easier option if you have a lot of luggage.

Click here to reserve a driver with airport pick up and drop off in Nha Trang.

Taking the train is a unique way to travel throughout Vietnam . From Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang, it’ll take between 7.5 to 8 hours to travel between the two cities.

Check out our overnight train experience here.

Reserve your train seats here .

Sleeper buses are popular in Vietnam where you can recline in your seat during your ride. From Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang, it’ll take about 12 hours which is one of the longer ways to get here. The bus has pit stops for bathroom and meal breaks. Pre-book your seats on Futa Bus .

How to Get Around Nha Trang

It’s a very walkable city and it has functional sidewalks (unlike in Ho Chi Minh City). It’s refreshing to see visitors on the sidewalk and not having to watch out for motorbikes who use sidewalks as another lane.

Check out our post on how to cross the streets safely in Vietnam .

Scooter/motorbike.

If you’re comfortable riding a scooter or motorbike, consider renting one in Nha Trang. Luckily the roads are wide and not as congested as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Ask your accommodations if they have motorbike rentals available.

They’re plentiful in the area and you often don’t need to wait for more than a minute. One will pass by eventually. Choose a reputable taxi company such as Mai Linh or Vinasun . Both are metered taxis and take credit cards.

Grab, the ride-hailing app

We prefer using the ride-hailing app, Grab as the main transportation in Nha Trang. It’s easy to use as you select your starting and ending location The driver meets you at your starting location. No need to worry about a metered or non-metered taxi as the app shows the cost. The transaction is cashless, if using a credit card for payment, or by cash. Download for free on iOS or Google Play .

You’ll need to have a SIM card in order to book a car via Grab. Click here to pre-purchase a 4G SIM card with pick-up at the Cam Ranh International Airport.

If you are from the U.S. and want to have an international phone plan, consider signing up for Google Project Fi . Receive a $20 USD credit when you sign up! We’ve used Project Fi for years and love how we can get text and data in over 200+ countries without needing to pay extra.

Where to Stay in Nha Trang

Since Nha Trang is a beach destination, you won’t have any difficulties finding accommodations. There are hostels, guesthouses, hotels, and resorts to suit any budget. If you want easy access to the Nha Trang Beach, it’s best to find accommodations along Biệt Thự, Trần Phú, or Trầng Quang Khải. The beach is just a five-minute walk away.

Find the perfect accommodations in Nha Trang and make a reservation here!

We stayed at the budget-friendly , Straw Hat Hostel. Our simple private room with bathroom was cheap at 265,000 VND ($11 USD) per night and close to many restaurants. Breakfast is not offered here and daily cleaning isn’t provided. However, you can ask the front desk for fresh towels if you need daily changing. Day tours and bus tickets are available through the staff. We used them to help book bus tickets to go to our next destination, Dalat.

Learn more about Straw Hat Hostel and make a reservation here .

On our second visit to Nha Trang, we stayed at the guesthouse, Xala Boutique. We had a clean and spacious private room with a bathroom. The window view overlooked a portion of the beach. You can walk to the beach in a few minutes. The room came with breakfast. Offerings were limited due to the COVID travel restrictions so we had a choice of of phở (noodle soup) or bánh mì ốp la  (bread with egg). We would love to stay here again.

Check out reviews and make a reservation for Xala Boutique here.

Where to Eat in Nha Trang

You won’t have any difficulties finding food in this city. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from such as local Vietnamese food, Chinese food, seafood BBQ, and buffets. Seafood is a must-have due to Nha Trang’s easy access to fresh seafood. You can pick and choose which seafood you want, the weight, and your choice of preparation.

If you’re craving dessert, we saw many Thailand rolled ice cream carts. Choose your choice of tropical fruits and they get mixed, flattened, and rolled.

We loved visiting these restaurants:

  • Alpaca Homestyle Cafe – We loved the fresh and delicious Western food here and went here for dinner and breakfast the next day. During our visit, we tried spaghetti with clams and quesadilla for dinner and granola and oatmeal with fresh fruits for breakfast. If you like tea, there are a dozen of tea varieties to choose from. The bill comes with alpaca stickers that you can take as a souvenir.
  • La Cala – If you’re craving Italian food, then this is the place to eat at. La Cala has some delicious pizzas and pastas. We tried the Margherita pizza and the spaghetti with clams.  The pizza crust was light and fluffy, while the homemade spaghetti was heavenly with the clams and wine sauce. Plus, the dining area is a covered area so there is fresh air coming in everywhere. We would eat here again if we’re in Nha Trang.

Nha Trang is a good weekend getaway for those who want to get away from the chaos of the big cities of Vietnam such as Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City. While there are tons of tourists, there are some charming areas and things to do in Nha Trang. We hope you enjoyed reading more about this Nha Trang in 3 days itinerary.

Hey Jackie! Thank you for your amazing post. I will copy your itinerary for my days in Nha Trang. I just can’t find the 4 hours city tour with One Trip: where can I make a reservation? On the homepage, they have just some other tours (island tour e.g.). Thank you!!! Sina

Hi Sina. Enjoy your time in Nha Trang, Vietnam. Thanks for asking about the OneTrip city tour. I checked the site and it looks like the city tour has been removed from their offerings. My apologies. I’ll update the post to reflect the change. Thank you.

10 reasons why you should travel to Nha Trang, Vietnam

Nha Trang Vietnam

Located on the south central coast of Vietnam, Nha Trang is a paradise of city and sea, the absolute best of both worlds.

Trendy high-rises dot the downtown. White-sand beaches line the coast and centuries-old temples and palaces perch on hilltops. It’s hard not to fall in love with Nha Trang. Here are 10 reasons why you should seriously consider paying this Vietnamese gem a visit:

Sandy, palm-lined beaches stretch for miles

Nha Trang Vietnam beach

While Tran Phu Beach is the largest and most popular of Nha Trang’s beaches, head for the beaches near Hon Chong Promontory for more of a local flavor or take a day trip to nearby Bai Dai Beach for an even more off-the-beaten-path experience.

It’s (almost) always sunny in Nha Trang

Nha Trang’s tropical savannah climate means the sun’s almost always shining, except for a few wet months between September and December when monsoon rains strike. Plan your visit to Nha Trang for January through August and you’re golden. With temperatures in the 80’s year-round and almost no wind, thanks to the mountains and islands that shelter Nha Trang Bay, Nha Trang is looking more and more like a beach-lover’s dream destination. But, there’s more…

A trendy, cosmopolitan vibe

The Nha Trang nightlife does not disappoint

When it comes to nightlife, Nha Trang does not disappoint. In fact, party town (or laid-back drinker) is written all over it. From rooftop lounges to nightclubs and beachfront dance floors, there are plenty of reasons to stay out late in Nha Trang.

Unlike the hindering curfews of the capital, Nha Trang stays open late. For a late night bite, visit Phu Dong Park for a full-fledged night food market.

Island hopping opportunities are endless

Nha Trang Vietnam beach

Insider tip from Laura Farnell, Intrepid’s Destination Manager for Vietnam:

If you visit Nha Trang with Intrepid (on our ‘Best of Vietnam’ or ‘Classic Vietnam’ tour) you’ll get an included boat trip out to the islands of Nha Trang. Here you can visit the fishing villages, ride in a traditional basket boat and also go snorkeling. It’s a highlight for many of our travelers!

This is perhaps the quintessential experience of a visit to Nha Trang. Mud baths and spas are everywhere. The experience can be quite strange for a newbie mud bather but the results are well worth the (sometimes cold) mud soak and painful power jet rinse that comes after. Your skin will never be softer, plus there are heated mineral pools awaiting you on the other side. There’s a good chance you’ll wonder why you’ve never tried mud bathing before.

The snorkeling and scuba diving is otherworldly

Surrounded by coral reef and a protected marine area, Nha Trang is the perfect launching point to some incredible dive sites. The 12,000-hectare Hon Mun Marine Protected Area also happens to be one of the best places in Vietnam to learn how to dive. Thinking of getting a PADI certification? You’ll want to do it here. The more experienced divers should ask about Octopus Rock off of Hon Rom. There you can find caves and swim-through tunnels to explore.

The seafood is as fresh as it gets

Finding souvenirs will be a breeze (and cheap).

Shopping in Nha Trang isn’t the stressful and overcrowded experience it often can be in Ho Chi Minh City. Nha Trang’s local street markets and beach-side boutiques move at a casual pace, allowing you to browse and make the perfect selections, be it handmade clothes, handicrafts made from raw sea materials, beautiful wood carvings, and artsy photo prints of Vietnam.

Be sure not to leave out a visit to the Nha Trang Market, a typical local market full of everything from fresh produce and seafood to souvenirs and trinkets.

You’ll never get bored

Beyond the mud baths, delectable seafood, beaches, and snorkeling, Nha Trang is a hub for sightseeing, both of the natural and ancient variety. We’re talking waterfalls, 7 th  century Buddhist temples, and princely palaces on stately hilltops. The must-sees include the Cham Towers, the Bao Dai Villa, the Long Son Pagoda, the Thanh Citadel, and the Ba Ho Falls.

Taking notes? We’re not kidding when we say  you can not get bored in Nha Trang . There are too many sights, bites, and experiences to be had.

Nha Trang Travel Guide

All things need to know before travelling to nha trang.

Nha Trang is a coastal city and a center of politics, economics, culture, science and technology and tourism of Khanh Hoa Province, Vietnam. Before becoming the land of Vietnam, Nha Trang belonged to Champa. Cham sites are still in many places in Nha Trang.

The city of Nha Trang is 1.280km from Hanoi, 448km from Ho Chi Minh City, 630km from Hue , 98km from Phan Rang, 220km to Mui Ne, 620km to Can Tho.

How Nha Trang Special Destination For Tourist?

Nha Trang was officially recognized as a grade 1 city by the Prime Minister of Vietnam on 22 April 2009. It is one of the first class cities in Vietnam. Nha Trang has known as the jewel of the East Sea, the jewel of green because of its natural value, as well as climate.

Situated in the center of Khanh Hoa Province, in the north it borders on Ninh Hoa Town, Cam Ranh City in the South, Dien Khanh District in the South, in a mountain valley 3 in the North – West – South and adjacent to coast to the east. Nha Trang River and Cua Be River divide Nha Trang into 3 parts, including 27 communes and wards. Before becoming the land of Vietnam, Nha Trang belonged to Champa. The market is named Dam market because the market is located on an old lagoon that is 7 acres wide, open to the mouth of Nha Trang River at the foot of Ha Ra Bridge, which is now filled. The market today sells a lot of household products and souvenir items, seafood,… very plentiful. Right at the entrance, the parking lot is to the market area, at the bows wrapped on both sides of the market are selling seafood, dried, grilled rolls, and souvenirs. The market center sells essential goods.

Few people expect that in Nha Trang, outside the beautiful beach, the diverse island routes, in the heart of Nha Trang city, there is still an old village with bold characteristics of Central Vietnam. That is the old village of Phu Vinh in the Vinh Thanh commune. Phu Vinh has a history of over 200 years, so there are still many old houses left in my heart. Currently, every year tens of thousands of tourists participate in the tour “old village” Phu Vinh. Among the 6 selected old houses are located on the arc road of Vinh Thanh commune. Another special point is that there are many generations of families who have been born for a career in the land that his father reclaimed.

Lovely article; thanks for sharing! Nha Trang seems to be well suited for me as a retirement location, except I don’t want to be in a big city or a crowded, touristy area. Where would you recommend looking nearby that is also inexpensive, hot and humid, with nice snorkeling/scuba diving beaches?
